If the skirmishes are the only source of points, then
4,3,2
3,2,1
2,1,0
Each and all will results in the same exact placement results all the time. The differential between scores are the same in each situation, and the differentials in score is what determines 1st 2nd and 3rd. It has psychological differences, but the are in reality the same.
The winner of a match won’t change very often with the new scoring, that’s not the point of it though. However, there is a huge difference between 4-3-2, 3-2-1 and 2-1-0.
4-3-2: 1st place gets twice the points of the 3rd place. Creates mild gaps.
3-2-1: 1st place gets three times the points of the 3rd place. Creates medium gaps
2-1-0. 1st place gets infinite times the points of the 3rd place. This creates huge gaps and can completely unbalance otherwise balanced mathups.
I agree that if they actually want to give smaller servers a fighting chance, they should also implement last stand. If they want to “fight” offtime-capping more efficiently, then they will also have to implement the action level as well. Those changes are listed here and imho not perfect yet, but go in the right direction: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Revisiting-April-s-WvW-leak/first#post6318194
Yea, you are right 4/3/2 leads to results that are more similar to current values, it still does not “close” the gap between servers, in current NA they are opened up a little bit, but it doesn’t open it even more significantly. It is possible that last stand could actually give the small server the possibilty to win the match then, as the impact will be bigger. Very close matchups (tier 4 NA) will still be pulled apart somewhat, but I would think that matches that close rarely happen. Thank you for the great suggestion.
More numbers (sorry!) For 4 days in current matchup with the 4/3/2-scoring instead of 3/2/1
Tier 1 current points BG 42%, TC 32%, DB 26%; new score: BG 43%, TC 32%, DB 25%
Tier 2 current points Mag 36%, JQ 33%, FA 31%; new score: Mag 36%, FA and JQ 32%
Tier 3 current points YB 42%, SBI 30%, SoS 28%; new score: YB 43%, SBI 29%, SoS 28%
Tier 4 current points NSP and HoD 34%, CD 32%; new score NSP 36%, HoD 34%, CD 30%Comparison the currently proposed 3/2/1 system:
Tier 1 current points BG 42%, TC 32%, DB 26%; new score: BG 47%, TC 32%, DB 21%
Tier 2 current points Mag 36%, JQ 33%, FA 31%; new score: Mag 37%, FA 32%, JQ 31%
Tier 3 current points YB 42%, SBI 30%, SoS 28%; new score: YB 48%, SBI 27%, SoS 25%
Tier 4 current points NSP and HoD 34%, CD 32%; new score NSP 37%, HoD 35%, CD 28%Hmm did some further calculation in the 4/3/2-system, while the matches “look” closer, it is still the same amouth of difficulty for the servers in the back to actually catch up with the server in front. So while the 4/3/2 system does make the matchup look closer, it doesn’t solve the problem that by mid-week the winner will be fixed..
A 4-3-2 scoring may not close gaps, but that wasn’t the point of it. If you look at the matchups of tier 2 and 4, which seem rather balanced, a 3-2-1 scoring would actually increase the gap between 1st and 3rd place and make it a lot harder for the 3rd place to catch up. That’s because the first place gets three times the points.
As you can see with your calculations of the 4-3-2 scoring, these gaps for tier 2 and 4 don’t increase as much, and the gap actually decreases for tier 2. In this case the first place only gets twice the points of the last place. The point at which the leading world is the fixed winner should be a little later in the week as well, maybe only slightly. Runaway matches like tier 1 and 3 can’t be fixed with this, you would need far higher scorings (like 10-9-8 or even higher) for that, but that would only be an attempt to artificially balance unbalanced matchups and wouldn’t clearly reflect the power distribution between the worlds.
A 4-3-2 scoring does not try to balance unbalanced matchups, it simply doesn’t unbalance balanced ones. These are problems that don’t originate in the scoring system and can’t and shouldn’t be fixed by it.
I am really interested in the effects of skirmishes on night capping. Do you have any calculations on matchups where one world usually leads because of that? That would be awesome! (I don’t know which worlds these would be myself)
I generally like what I read, but maybe they could consider changing the war scores to 4-3-2 for each skirmish, 3-2-1 can actually increase the gap between closer matchups drastically.
Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Sphinx.8014
In addition to Spirit Shard gating, locked raid mastery also prevents other raid wings training and exploration. For example, raid wing 3 requires Thicket Water mastery, which prohibits game play for new raiders. Rift Traveler is also really helpful in VG training, where new raider parties frequently fail and have to restart. There’s no need to gate Rift Traveler ability behind defeating a raid boss.
What benefit would a player gain from having early access to rift traveler if they have yet to beat a raid boss? It’s not like they’d be able to use the vendor.
You can restart the fight faster. Isn’t that good? Is it why there’s /surrender command in raid?
I added more to my post. The time saved is minimal.
Even it’s minimal, Anet still cares about it by adding /surrender or /gg command. Raid takes a significant time and effort. Every second counts!
And I don’t think we should rely on other players’ Thicket Waters mastery. How would you find that perfect composition for new raiders whom most elite raiders don’t really care about? Honestly, I’ve been searching for LFR for at least two weeks and never found any party offering that option. Could it be simpler if new raiders already have Waters mastery and are ready to join?
What you said is impractical. Have you ever noticed current LFR? They requires serious experiences, gears and tons of Legendary Insights (or kicked!). So, please be realistic.
There’s a difference to 10 seconds saved by gliding over to the starting spot (assuming you have gliding progressed enough) to having to force a wipe by dying because you have dead team members.
You literally only need at most 3 players with the mastery to do the escort. Once you progress past the cave, it is no longer needed. You can even have a Mesmer run through it and port people up.
Also be aware that you have the ability to create your only LFG ad rather than solely relying on an existing one. Want to group with other players regardless as to their level of experience? Create your own LFG. It’s not that difficult and players had this ability well before HoT when they were then complaining about the requirements some players held for dungeons.
OK.
- What’s the point of gating raid mastery behind defeating a raid bossM
- What’s the benefit of it?
- How gating improve players or gameplay experience?
- What’s the negative effect of allowing raid mastery unlocked by default?
It’s something you earn by beating a boss and the use of the masteries are solely within raids. It encourages players to play the raid even if it’s just one boss. That also happens to be one of the reasons why there are gates as it encourages players to experience content. It’s why HoT masteries require XP earned on HoT maps. Gating content like what they have done, promotes players to experience the content rather than simply rush through the story.
I know the general idea of Mastery. But you didn’t answer my questions.
Please answer each question above, plus the following:
- Why Fractal Mastery isn’t gated by defeating a fractal boss?
I did answer your questions. It just wasn’t in bullets.
Fractal masteries enhance your ability to progress through the tiers. While you could forego them entirely, it would then cost you quite a bit of gold. The mechanics you use in the lower tiers is really not all that different than what you use in the higher tiers. With very few exceptions (e.g. Cliff side), there’s very little difference. The masteries are not a requirement. This is something you really should be asking Anet.
The thing is that you don’t even need to defeat most of the bosses in fractals to get the mastery points. Just swim through some foes, kick some chickens or simply dance. Also, many fractals can be done with two people or even soloed, and there are many difficulty levels available for each fractal. If there was an easier option for raids, I think that would be fine for most people as well, because it would make raids accessible for a lot more players without any ridiculous requirements for grouping.
I totally agree with this. I was also very happy that they added spirit shards again and then kind of disappointed they I wouldn’t be getting them anyway. They could at least let us get the raid masteries without actually having to raid, but just removing the necessity to get them at all would be preferable.
To make it easier for others to max out their masteries. Not everyone is as good at adventures, and doing LS3 and playing the new map is a good alternative for them to get their points.
Personally, I would like to have more sinks for mastery points too, though.
I really liked the patch in general, or at least what I have experienced of it yet.
1. I have played thorugh the LS3 episode and I think it is the best one yet. Very entertaining, good cliffhanger, great dialogs, only Lazarus could have been better voiced.
2. The new map is pretty cool, and I may finally be able to get my hands on some bloodstone dust (I usually open bags with lv53 chars). I do have a problem with some of the events though, as they are quite repetitive and get boring very quickly. Especially the one with the seekers and the dude hiding inside his bubble is tiring.
3. Skills while flying? Sign me up! I would have expected class specific skills, though. Still nice.
4. The QoL changes are awesome! Opening bags and salvaging their contents is finally doable in a reasonable amount of time. The selection screen for fractals is nice as well.
5. “Level ups”/Spirit shards after completing masteries. I have to raid to get this? SRSLY? If I really have to finish these masteries as well, then make them available WITHOUT DOING RAIDS! Making this exclusive for raiders is just stupid.
6. Balance Changes: I am curious to see how venomshare will play out, both in WvW and PvE. I kinda like having some support options, I don’t like having to use conditions to do so. (Honestly, why is Assassin’s Presence for revenants a thing? Should have been for thieves) Also, why are venoms still in the Shadow Arts line? They clearly belong to Deadly Arts, as that’s the one that cares about conditions (Traps are way better for Shadow Arts…).
7. I like the use of the special action button.
(edited by Sphinx.8014)
@OP: personally, I don’t mind crafting. In fact, I may even like it. But I think that you have a very good point. I really don’t get it, why the HoT armors and weapons aren’t tradeable. At least the marauder/crusader (?) gear should be. For the others, they seem to be meant as a reward for playing HoT / getting the masteries, but it would also be beneficial to crafters if they could sell their stuff.
They would probably have to limit purchases to those who own HoT, but I doubt that that’s the problem.
that’s Anet for yah, they start with “everything is optional” but end up with “you need to do it”
same with their S3, you need HoT or you can’t play it, that’s like saying “you need to smoke or you don’t get your payday”…..
You do realize that LS3 is based on the HoT story and that it would make absolutely no sense for anyone without HoT, right?
I wholeheartedly agree with you, we definitely need more beard options. How can they let the world around us grow, but not our facial hair?
So according to the front page news post, customers are limited to buying two of these.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/simple-black-lion-gathering-pack-in-the-gem-store/
However, in the in-game store, it is listed to last for seven days with no boundaries on how many you are able to purchase.
Is this a bug, or a miss-communication by Anet. Please clear up what the actual marketed item is! Dev, please respond. Thanks!
I’d guess that both is probably true. The offer lasts for one week, and in that time you may only buy two sets.
Join chest farms in the Silverwastes and you will be swimming in fragments (and Dragonite Ore). The event chain doesn’t net nearly as much.
I don’t think we necessarily need to get rid of the idea of soulbound. That helps out the economy and adds value to Ascended and Legendary gear. However not being able to salvage it or toss it into the mystic forge is really an unfair set of circumstances that isn’t clearly spelled out.
I’m pretty sure ascended and legendary gear isn’t soulbound.
And as Genei said, that’s what adds value to them. Because almost everything else is soulbound.
I really don’t care a bit about you creating legendaries or not. Maybe you should have informed yourself before spending 3k gold. That’s really your own fault. This game is called fashion wars for a reason.
Besides: please post this thread in the WvW section, I’m just so very curious how your campaign is received there… 0:)
(edited by Sphinx.8014)
Great post, OP!
I also never understood why they chose to not include LS2 in HoT. Did they ever let people play test through the vanilla + HoT story and look for consistency errors before release? Because there is a huge gaping hole between the two if you don’t own LS2.
Sure, they had a LS2 “sale” at 960 gems for a while after HoT released and I can imagine that they do like the income it generated. I also don’t regret purchasing it, it’s an awesome story with great characters. I just find it weird that they would kitten the consistency of their storytelling like that for some extra income. I would have at least expected an optional bundle of HoT + LS2 for some 5 extra $/€.
Hmm, what if it were like 600 gems to make the set of currently worn armor skins free to apply?
If a lvl 15 icebrood elemental is enough to kill you it’s not the game that failed miserably…
Your playstyle must be very close to AFKing. Sorry, but learn to play.
It will be there until you use it and everyone who bought HoT or will buy it in the future will get the boost.
No, the maximum for each stack is 250.
Edit: For the material storage you can have up to 2000 per material. However, everywhere else a stack cannot extend 250 units.
(edited by Sphinx.8014)
You also have to unlock every other specialization (and I think even skills) before you can start unlocking the elite spec.
Normally, if you dual wield weapons, both weapons’ stats and sigil are active at all times. Unfortunately, there seems to be a bug with some of the Revenant’s sword skills so they don’t account for weapon stats at all. I expect that to be fixed with the patch next week though.
When I saw the front view I thought it was kinda ugly, however I do like the side view very much. I will wait until I see it ingame for a final decision on whether to build it or not. I am lucky enough to be among those who main a thief and can therefore actually use this weapon…:D
Edit: I am actually curious to see the precursor for this one.
The fact that you can only get those items from specific PvE maps is kinda selling point for HoT. If you could simply get them from WvW, then you do not need to buy HoT and that is bad for business.
It isn’t really hard to only make them available to those with HoT, you know
Things YOU know as facts:
1. I can buy unlimited items off the Tp without any server limitations- FALSE
2. I can pick up unlimited items into my inventory from the TP without any server limitations – FALSE
3. I can set arbitrary buy order prices at unlimited speed without server limitations. – FALSE
4. Doing any of these things in reverse (selling) causes an error to pop up – what?
Things devs have stated as facts in the past:
-series of random ad hominems that clearly make your points more valid…right?Just because you don’t see the technical implementation of some aspects of the systems doesn’t mean it’s magic.
Do you really need to be so condescending about it?
Even if he WAS being condescending (And I don’t feel like he was in truth. Atleast no more than was deserved due to the assumptive nature of the post hes responding to) the forums have shown that that attitude is the only one players actually respond too.
When they try to be uber polite they are often looked down on by the very people who have been demanding answers. (Perhaps the fact that they are DEMANDING answers is a sign?)
But John Smith in particular has a good bit more respect on the forums precisely because he doesn’t always take peoples kitten.
If people are talking out of there kitten they need to be shut down. Whether it be a player or a developer. Because on a public forum misinformation can be spread like fact. Even if it has no basis in reality.
I understand customers being kitten, its everywhere me included when i’m upset but i figured Developers were professionals and well were supposedly on another level etc.
Aren’t they suppose to be polite to their customers either way, honestly talking down to them doesn’t help at all and well imo no wonder the forums so hostile to them..
I am sorry, but this is exactly the attitude that makes people be intolerable kittenbags towards employees and then expect them to still be friendly and helping. If a customer is a condescending kittenbag it is only deserved when they are shown their place.
So the issue clearly isn’t technical.
Clearly /s
Despite the redname post above.
Clearly /sThings we know as facts:

4. Doing any of these things in reverse (selling) causes an error to pop upI’ll stick with the facts over the red posts, thanks though.
Calling John a liar and giving themselves expert level above those actually working with and on the system is just stupid and John’s answer is simply on point. Kudos to John!
And seriously, the biggest limitation there is to buying and selling is the limit of 250 units for any single purchase. If that isn’t an indicator, what is?
Edit: And how would ZudetGambeous.9573 even come to the conclusion that they could pick up an unlimited number of items from the TP at once? There is a maximum of 100 stacks per pick up process iirc.

Here’s a bit of light reading if your interested in NCSOFT and the Cantha problem. Post there if you wish to revisit Cantha, every voice counts!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/The-Cantha-Thread-Merged
The mesmer version please Also, more mesmer armor in general (they also wear pants!)
Plus, I would like the elite kurzick armor for assassins back. Actually, really anything without a trenchcoat would do at this point.
Take berserker or berserker+valkyrie instead.
It’s not the same at all. It doesn’t have a higher stat count like Maurauders does over the pre-HoT stat prefixes and it is a 1 to 1 tradeoff of precision for a little extra vitality.
The only time I include this in a build is if I go over the character’s critical strike soft cap, making any additional precision worthless.
Don’t know where you got the idea from that I think they are the same. They are simply the best alternative as long as marauder trinkets are unavailable for non-raiders. I think that was rather clear.
They are supposed to become easier to obtain with LS3. Until then, it seems like non-amulet trinkets are raid-only.
Take berserker or berserker+valkyrie instead.
Let’s say Anet turns completely stupid, what would you say?
Wow, how thick do you think the people at Anet are? After this fiasco, do you honestly think they don’t know how the reactions would be? Seriously…
I would maybe expect another legendary armor or backpiece, but no weapons.
However unfortunate that may be, you will just have to deal with this. Either learn to control your fear or continue to avoid heights. People with arachnophobia (fear of spiders) aren’t better off. Phobias can be treated.
Limiting the developers’ creative freedom for every phobia out there really isn’t a good solution.
Kitten meaning SSD.
It cut my loading times in half.
So I should move the files on to a drive that is SSD?
Exactly. SSDs are a lot faster than regular hard drives and will speed up loading times more than anything else could.
Kitten meaning SSD.
It cut my loading times in half.
In PvE it would be really bad for button masher players, because they would just regularly kill themselves without intending to. I’d say there is a significant amount of people playing like that and just considering them this would be a bad idea.
I would definately love a second specialization slot as most of my chars have a second armor set for a different playstyle/gamemode. But I also think that there are currently more pressing things to be done in the game than this.
Tl;dr: Nice to have, but I think the resources are needed elsewhere atm.
While I don’t often have a problem with it myself, my gf is used to pressing the space bar longer for further jumps, just like she leans to the side for a sharper turn in Mario Kart. Having the glider deploy because of it has led to many rage quits, and by now she is really sick of it (I am too).
Requiring a double tap would help to some regard, however, I would suggest adding a customizable key bind instead. Double tapping would still cause problems, especially when doing quick successive jumps and you press jump a quarter of a second too early. The glider will deploy and there will be rage.
Therefore, I suggest doing it right and letting us choose which buttons to press.
Edit: I want an umbrella glider!

I have very fond memories of Guild Wars <3 It was a wonderful journey, and I just adore this video that beautifully summarizes all those adventures in old Tyria:
Enjoy
What would you change? What is valuable loot in your opinion? Do you want exotics and ascended chests for killing veterans? Or for what activities exactly do you want improved loot?
Be more or less specific
26th April – 4 months exactly from the 26th Jan ;-0)
That’s three months
I’d also lean towards the 19th, but it’s all speclation until Anet officially anounces a date.
Any changes in noninstanced central Tyria that don’t involve masteries or elite specializations should be available for all. Quarterly updates bring many changes to core features such as world bosses, WvW, skills…just don’t expect much on the story side.
I’d also rather have more professions use the shortbow instead of merging them. Revenant would be awesome with one
Edit: Corrected autocorrect…
(edited by Sphinx.8014)
Great suggestions, there already is a thread for this though:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestions-Future-Elite-Specializations
Well that’s what the specialization collections were for…no?
Edit: sure, not as flashy but they captured the essence of the class…
Sword, dagger or shield would have been great, but shortbow is fine. At least it can be interpreted as a weird form of thief-love
They said that that legendaries would appear at intervals until the full set of 16 legendary weapons were added to the game…… That was part of the HoT advertising.
And that might still be true. Only that the intervals are a little more stretched now. They didn’t cancel the legendaries after all.
I really don’ think many disagree with you. Similar things have been requested regularly and in my opinion it would be a great addition to the game.
The question is only whether there are the resources to do this and how high this would be prioritized. And to be honest, I don’t see this coming any time soon.
The raids didn’t cost you anything.
6 devs in a Legendaries team. 6 devs working on a single raid wing. They could have pulled either team, but they decided on legendaries. So yeah, legendary set was worth a raid wing.
But we are talking one team 2/3rds of the way done with it’s promised content Vs another team that’s only 1/3rd done which at their current pace may be done in 2019. They’re only equivalent as bullet points on a promised feature list.
If they didn’t have the 6 Devs working on raids then those Devs could have been working
on other content. They wouldn’t have been so far behind and needed to pull the Devs off the Legendaries. Therefore, the Devs working on raids cost us the Legendaries.
But at least raids are repeatable content. And 6 people on the legendary team probably wasn’t enough anyway if it took them 4 months to finish one legendary journey. At that pace it would take them years to complete all 16 weapons. Also, the community would riot either way, both raids and legendaries were promised.
I’m having the feeling that Colin had too many plans and too little planning, and Mike is the one to deal with it now. Colin had a winning smile and said he was against too many sword swings. But guess what, while he was in charge of the game the necessary swings increased from day to day, and now Mike has to dedicate major parts of the quarterly patch to undo that.
On another note, taking even a single person from the WvW team would probably cause a massive riot even greater than this one. WvW has been neglected since forever and is in a worse state than PvE ever was or will be. It doesn’t take much to lose a lot of players there, as they are not as invested as PvE players. Stuff has been boiling for too long there.
Not sure about PvP, but it seems they aren’t too happy either.
@dubstax: that’s ridiculous. We don’t even know what they are working on. But anyway, let’s just wait and see what the april patch brings us.
Those few people who prepared all the gifts should just contact support and ask if they could help. If you ask nicely I’m pretty sure they are happy to help
Yes, you should probably contact support and ask if they could help you there. They are usually very helpful if you ask nicely

You know you can transfer servers in this game right..
Valid point but I hope your imagination goes past that.
You tell others to be more imaginative but can’t come up with untaken names? How very ironic.
Living world. Legendaries can come later and then include the new content and maps added with LS3. As long as they do come at some point, I’m fine.
