Give me a good reason your non-charr character would have a tail. Go ahead.
So Logan can turn tail and run?
…again you mean…
GW2 has no “E-Sports” site that focuses on it only related events such as the self-evident leader thereof “League of Legends” . If you want to get info or watch matches/tourments there is no single source/place that has everyone in one place. At best you have to troll through the “All News” posts until you find something.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/events/world-tournament-series/
They have a site that focused on a single event… but nothing that focused on “the sport of Guild Wars” itself. No information about anything before the event (past years)… and limited information even so on “the sport itself”. If ANet wants to get serious about Professional gamming and Guild Wars… it needs to have a “home” to do so nonetheless.
Indeed it is so…
(edited by The Master.2893)
The core and crux of this is people feel its weak, and that weakness is in fact by design.
They never wanted healing or a dedicated source of it to be a primary thought, or even check box for completing content.
What they set out to do was have minor aspect of each component of the trinity in every profession. Everyone brings something to the table to assist the party in some fashion.
Yes but remember not everyone has been playing GW2 from launch. They are not “aware” of Anet Policy on how the game was intended and are looking at it from an uninformed position: “Noobs” if you will.
They are expecting a WoW-style game in a game that was intentionally designed to be anything-but. The only failure here I suppose is that ArenaNet doesn’t “remind people” about their design strategies over and over again.
Until such time… you will see “noob” threads like this one pop up over and over. IT is best to simply not let it get to you that much or your head will hurt lots.
Indeed it is so…
keeping healing power as an attribute when the current design doesn’t reward investment in it, that’s what i’d call failure.
Yes this is fair observation: However it is intended by Anet nonetheless. A cost for not having the trinity therefore.
“Not have the traditionnal holy trinity” doesnt mean tanks and healers are missing. It means tanks and healers arent required in any content.
In fact Anet tried to replace it by another trinity, DPS/control/support. And if support is not heal, heal is support.
Well I am not entirely certain this is accurate representation of gameplay… nor is this logic “official by Anet”. A better understanding would be “mobility; and more mobility”
But the PvE content is so trivial and the healing power so worthless, this support style is useless. Not because Anet wanted that, but because Anet failed.
PvE content scales with player participation in some cases. If many players the encounters can get very hard and players can be 100-0 quickly in cases. Given how Anet doesn’t want this to turn to “healers being used to heal this”… instead focusing on “strategic gameplay” (mobility; dodge or otherwise) it is unlikely they would buff healing. Otherwise with strong healing in comparison to other MMORPGs you would have a meta shift to “tank/healer” as combat would be easier with a “tanky” character being healed with DPS players.
In other words… if healing ever was in line with other MMORPGs the “holy trinity” meta would instantly be formed… if intended or not. And because they insist upon not making this possible they will do everything to avoid this… making healing in this game ineffective.
No idea what that ‘pax’ is, don’t really care…the beer however…naah, don’t really care either since i live in a country with some (most) of the best beers in the world.
Compared to that, you can keep that pax while i sip from my Westvleteren 12.
Yea true that. PAX is a video game convention (organization) that has events several times a year… not unlike Gamescom in EU. Before this year the Guild Wars event were always purposely set apart from the PAX (although occurring same weekend) as a result of when GW2 was launched… but now they have been merged nonetheless.
I apologize if someone above already posted this… however this game was specifically designed to “not have the traditional MMORPG ‘holy trinity’ of tank, dps, and healer”.
So they made it so that nobody could heal, or even pure tank for that matter. And everyone had DPS options.
IF they buffed healing, which is a fair contention, they would “break their pledge to not have a holy trinity”.
I’m surprised this make some people angry and disappointing. My question to you: would you rather see things happening or hear only words? People pay huge money to hear big speech and fail to see the results.
I am a person of action: what person are you?
I apologize for my lack of intellectual understanding today and is not following your post entirely… however my point, if you read everything I said, was that most of the stuff that “was useful information” (that is the info you could get from the even) presentation occurred “after the presentation”. I learned more about GW2 directly from developers in the afterparty more so then all the press conferences ever done combined. Now this is being locked to PAX goers if even that.
Also there is a casual element to this event that is “action based” if you will. Before, being open to everyone, you used to see many people/guilds show up and do things as well. Lots of potential at least for interaction among “people”. It simply wasn’t just “listen to a 1 hour Power Point Presentation and Leave”. Now it appears to not be this case nonetheless.
So yes… if you are a “man of action” then having some action being taken out of the even should concern you nonetheless…
WEll if this was “other MMORGPS”(ElderScrollsOnline as example) then the rewards would be tied to %of DMG done or Healing Done (the top 8+ DMG dealers get exp/rewards; min DMG amount must be met). And sometimes this is capped as to how many players but in scaling difficulty of GW this is not necessary. IN other words… “you cannot simply tag and bail”.
In theory this is possible with this game but would require some coding and effort to make possible and effective. A solution nonetheless…
Umm … maybe they will be doing outside events too? All that announcement says is that to get into the theater for a panel presented at PAX, you have to have a pass to attend events at PAX. Which is completely reasonable.
“Reasonable” by non-Anet standards perhaps. If your Microsoft… GGWP. However if you have been going to ANet events for years (like a one I listed on top) and now for the first time ever “you need a PAX pass” well GGWP. There isn’t time to get one (legally).
IT is a break in the trust if you will. Now I have to consider getting a PAX pass in the future if I want to go to GW events… a new “precedent” has been set.
People came on the forums everyday posting about how the game needs an expansion. Posting about how they are quiting because there is no expansion. How the game is horrible without an expansion. This is what happens when games get expansions, there is a large gap between releases.
You can always have both. Expansions + transitions (smaller patches) World of Warcraft used to do this very well b4 WoD came out at least.
Midwest here so screwed either way, regardless this sounds like a change to shift control and liabilities on PAX. Giving away alcohol at a non sanctioned area without licensing is just asking for issues, potential lawsuits, or minors getting it.
Or they just don’t like you anymore.
I don’t disagree with the PR issues with Anet, however not really seeing it with this.
Well they could just not give away beer LoL… there is more to life of course…
BTW Midwesterner GGWP if you play League of Legends… next week the servers are moving to Chicago (from Portland currently) so your gonna get epic speeds (at cost of West Coast of course). That’s at least a + there for you:)
The point is that for year after year after year the ANet events have “been casual”. Now they “are not casual”. Thus when combined with all the other PR “problems” that exist (pricing for Thorns for one) one can make a case that “ArenaNet’s soul is being sucked out by evil forces”.
This time it is Penny Arcade. Next time will be someone else. A “drip, drip, drip” of stuff that as with all others, lead to game companies destruction (case in Point ZeniMax/ElderScrollsOnline) no matter…
Am I missing something or is my account really cursed with horrible RNG luck…
[
Your not only one (still waiting for that legendary drop)…
You cannot “LiveStream the beer”.
Best forum post ever.
I live stream beer straight from glass into stomach right now. I am on download 3 of 6 haha. ;)
3/6 of what? Windows 10 Updates ?:)
There could also be liability issues surrounding it, legal issues, risk of drunk devs saying stuff they shouldn’t, etc. In the end be glad you have the opportunity to actually go to PAX or most these events which are mostly on the west coast, without flying across the country to do so. Being bitter because Anet doesn’t do “after hours” events is silly.
Well my problem is that there is a marketed shift in “public relations” by ArenaNet. Every year since Guild Wars 2 was released (and yes the “noob” I am I think there may have been events during GW1 too) they have had “this event”. 2012, 2013, 2014. Sometimes more then one. This the first time it isn’t like this.
So… as you can see this is a shift in policy. You can imagine why I am upset.
And lastly… don’t even cry about being East Coast… you have NYC: You get everything not gamer related handed to you in a silver platter every day of the week. You even took the 2 North America League of Legends Events this year (Florida, NYC). At least please show some respect and allow us "west coast peoples to have something every once in awhile.
NOTE: BTW it is still likely they are going to have their event this year as well. However the “free beer” and the like will be “BlueShielded” to PAX goers only. So it isn’t like the event is going away entirely… simply “disabled” for the 7+billion Humans of Earth of course…

Best forum post ever.

Thank you… thank you… thank you very much…
Indeed it is so…
Like I said maybe arena net didn’t make rule but maybe PAX made them have the passes.
Yea this is possible this year especially since they lost RIOT GAMES/League of Legends which used to be their “hallmark” event. This is yet another reason why I think the PAX organization “is evil”… that is more concered about $$$ then what was originally intended to be a “festival for gamers” that was for non E3 peoples. PAX was simply to “draw people to Seattle” however others had events outside of PAX. It isn’t like PAX has unlimted tickets to sell (rather quite hard to get PAX ticket otherwise) so there is no economic excuse here.
I also almost forgot. You should stream your party for arena net to watch. They can see who has better party.
Yea but I am a loser with “no IRL friends” LoL so that isn’t happening. And I play on EU servers for most of my games so most of me “in-game” friends are Eurozone in either case… But yes point is taken nonetheless.
Well maybe you can see real people have some beer and see presentation. Invite real life people to your house. Have some beers with them and watch the stream. You could even have the friends bring presents for give away. See I am a problem solver.
Yea but your missing the…
1. No conversation with Anet developers; or people who are GW2 players but otherwise “not your friends”
2. Free Giveaways (-beer that is) including GW2 Merch, INgame pets, and even opportunity one year to test new content (the dragon fight of 2013) first
Alas the point of this thread is that this event is a marked shift of policy by ArenaNet… one that could suggest a “more closed approach” in other aspects going forward… which is not good of course…
Well you made a big deal about the free beer so that is probably why people talk about it. You know what they say, sometimes life is not fair. I think you will probably survive this.
Yea true but the beer thing “was a speech device”. If I didn’t mention the “secret” then people just blow this thread over without second thought alas no matter…
Also I will miss that thing called “human interaction”. Being locked away in my house or whatever talking to people via “Internet” (GW2) vs IRL of course.
O yea and I almost forgot about the giveaways… I still got me free GW2 themed shirt and other stuff (in game pet for one).
I will miss my beer though…
(edited by The Master.2893)
Could be PAX event make them require pass. May not have been arnea nets choice. Oh and you can drink beers in front of computer probably cheaper than cost to travel to event and parking.
Yea but you cannot beat Draft Beer (eewwh bottled beer). Or the Developers.
You could get beer and food from the comfort of your own home…..
You cannot talk to developers first hand. I believe you are missing that point. I assure you, within 10 min of particpaiton you will learn more about GW2 then the 1+Hour of the press conference. The PvP Lead is a good guy too worth talking.
Or you could have purchased a ticket, either way. This thread is silly.
Again please read above again. Ever Since GW2 has been out (2012) they have had live events with outside access. For last few even so they were during the PAX weekend (usually Saturday) and they also had panels inside PAX, but the core event (usually paired with PvP finals) was open to public (it is in a hotel outside of PAX).
Now not so much…
Passes are on ebay for $50, if that ends up being a route you want to take.
True but buying Ebay passes technically violates the Terms of Service of the PAX membership (that is if you get caught GGWP). And I still have to buy a PAX pass which defeats the honor part of it.
Not all of us agree with “Penny Arcade” but that is a long standing battle of ages past no matter. Short story short they used to be “ego-filled elitist jerks” (like many in the eastside of Seattle area are; however for “nerds” was preety hard core) who caused problems. They did “mature” over time though.
“Livestream:
If you’re unable to attend in person, never fear! We’ll be streaming the presentation on the official Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel. Tune in at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) for a preshow featuring community members"
I’ve never gone to these events, however, I know many companies do not do this part at all.
You cannot “LiveStream the Beer”.
If you been to Anet events in the past you would know that it is “more then a press conference”: It is a party as well. Not only do you get a period of time (and can be a long period as well) to talk directly to developers, but…
FREE BEER! Well you get 2 tickets worth either 2 16oz Draft or 2 wine or whatever. Plus food. When they held the event in Tap House Grill (a beer place in Seattle) was preety good actually… and I got to learn of a new Seattle restaurant that is preety good for beer at least.
So yes… can I “watch the event?” Do I even care about that part?…
……well maybe a little. BESIDES THE POINT!
Perhaps their Korean overlords finally realized what they were up to alas…

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2the-journey-ahead-at-pax-prime-2015/
When:
Saturday, August 29, at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7).
Where:
This presentation will take place in the Hydra Theatre, located on Level 1 of the Grand Hyatt. Please note that you will need an official PAX badge to attend the presentation.
This PAX event will be “region locked” to people who have a PAX pass even though the event is outside of the Washington State Trade/Convention Center. For years ArenaNet has always had an “outside” event that allowed non-PAX “Humans of Earth” to attend their event… now for the first time they will be locking their local Seattle Area annual event to only PAX goers.
Which if you happened to live in Seattle Area… but could care less about the rest of PAX itself (you don’t want to spend $$$ on Penny Arcade; or since no more LoL NA Summer Finals now; or have the patience to buy a PAX Pass in the 10~Min they are available before being sold out)… well I guess GGWP.
If ArenaNet made this clear before PAX tickets were sold this year then I could blame myself for not planning correctly. However this last minute announcement leaves me with no other (legal)option. I was looking forward to learning more about Thorns because I myself is still on the fence about it alas.
Of course, there are “evil reasons” why this occurred (PAX demanded money; ArenaNet wants to limit participation to known quantity), however for the record I will not allow them to get away with this unnoticed. I guess I won’t be attending the GW Event this year after all…
Edit: For Peoples of Earth who are not Aware of Anet’s Former Events… I happened to come across this 2014 Event Announcement (also during PAX time)

Food/Drink: Light appetizers will be served and we will provide two drink tickets per person; food and drink tickets are limited.
We’ll see you there!
MORE EDIT: For “Humans of Earth” who are not aware of this event… the reason it’s timing “happens to line up with PAX” is because the end of August is the Launch Day Anniversary of Guild Wars 2. The events they have each year were “celebratory” and casual in nature and not business affairs: They were open to the public for a reason. Now there has been a observable shift in Public Relations policy from “fun” to “business” which is disconcerting nonetheless.
Perhaps ArenaNet’s “Korean Overlords” (NCSOFT) finally got to them alas…
Indeed it is so…
(edited by The Master.2893)
Guys: If you think this concept is goona be a cakewalk you are in for a rude awakening… A megaserver makes the final observed social experience WORSE not better.
+1 for ZeniMax/Elder Scrolls Online
Why are Megaservers EVIL?
1. Trying to find people is impossible: This concept is difficult to understand until you have played a game with a Megaserver alas… Is there some magic math formula to find people? Maybe. But without ensuring that the same players are on the same server finding people becomes natually impossible without a /who command. What if you want to find a “casual friend”? Perhaps someone you talked to before but not a formal /friend just some intersting poster on /map. GL with that.
2. Say Goodbye to Roleplaying right now… assuming there is any in GW2. Being mixed around will just destroy the nature of a single “RP” server/realm. Want to find a random RP session simply by walking around Divinity’s Reach? Good Luck with that.
3. Player Population: Sometime you want to play on a lower population server and NOT have 1235423047810748 players running around. A “megaserver” means that you will always have minions running around whether or not you want it.
4. Dynamic Events: Now they claim they have a solution to this problem but if the server you on will be random I don’t see how this problem can be avoided. I will wait and see ArenaNet’s response on the matter.
5. Destruction of Server “Loyality”: With a single server there are no longer server loyalties. In fact now “home worlds” are simply WvW tools only and have no other use.
6. Connection Issues: Megaservers are natually not as stable as normal servers. Disconnecting or lag while zoning is far more common as experienced in ESO or with WoW’s “Cross Realm Zone” mechanics. Whether GW’s system would be stable or not is undefined.
7. Unable to play with Friends: What happens if your friends are split up on different “shards” or otherwise worlds? Trying to get all of you on the same server is a nightmare. For example you have 2 parties of players. Because they are not the “same party” it is possible that you will be placed on different zones. Trying to “sync up” players on a server now requires some brain power.
Look I probably could go on and on but you get the point. As a player of ESO I know that Megaserver concept is EVIL and causes more problems. Why am I playing ESO? PvP pure and simple (which btw isn’t a megaserver). If ArenaNet wants to copy somthing from ESO then copy the shear size of ESO’s PvP map which as at least 4x the size of Eternal Battlegrounds with epic large scale combat. Whatever you do copy ESO’s megaserver.
I know Player Population is an issue… nevertheless the solution to this problem is to CLOSE DOWN SERVERS. IDK why video game companies (such as Blizzard/WoW) think doing this == /doom but it doesn’t. GW2 has gamewide name reservation so this wouldnt’ even be that hard either.
Mates: I simply don’t want the “social experience” of GW2 to be ruined like ESO’s is. This Megaserver is simply Evil. Alas no matter: yet another “World Domination experiement” of ArenaNet…
Indeed it is so…

Ahhhh…. time to introduce factions! Pro-Scarlet and anti-Scarlet factions! World PvP combat! YEEAAAA!

A: No.
delete unwanted dead content….seriously tequal is still there….thats sad
This is crazy… don’t give ArenaNet a reason to make an already small and short lived “Living Story” content and the the like to make this game even smaller.
Your other points however are noted.
The other question to ask… what OS are you running? I am still questioning whether Guild Wars 2 even plays on Windows 8 or not due to the new features that OS has when it comes to it’s games software.
The post indicates Windows 8 if you read it… its hidden no doubt.
And for the record… Windows 8 is the “Future of Awesome!” Works just fine: In fact I built my computer at Windows 8 release for the purpose of playing GW2 and is most epic.
Indeed it is so…
Depends how you define “linear”. I would say given the inabilty to affect outcomes (other then perhaps the supposed election) that this season was completly linear.
However your logic is noted… there should be some “grand order” to what happens and not simply be a “guessing game” week after week. Or adding a bunch of “neverbeforeseen” bad guys to advance a story.
‘Illusion of choice’
you never contributed from the start.
…yes a Mesmer Illusion no doubt…
Because this is ArenaNet and they try to “fake player input” values in order to give a false sense of player-directed outcomes?…
For the Record… this isn’t the first time this happened. With the “Flame and Frost” story release the destruction of the final event had this same timer.
Indeed it is so…
I believe the issue is related to this one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/audio/Battle-Music-Doesn-t-Stop as Nalora said above.
I read this post: It may be close in nature but not the same. This loop problem happens only at the end of the invasion (when the event failed message appears). If you leave mid-invasion the music does stop. And because it is possible to stand around and do nothing for the 45min you can have this problem in theory even if no combat is engaged.
If I remember correctly: During the Scarlet Invasion release the music used to only stop when the treasure that you get at the end was selected. Else the music would loop. However because there is no reward at the end with the current invasions there could be a problem here nonetheless…
No matter hopefully the situation will be resolved in time…
Indeed it is so…
…when the “event failed” option appears after the end of aScarlet Invasion the battle music follows you even if you zone somewhere else in game.
Most interesting of course but a bug nonetheless….
Indeed it is so…
Ahhh…. man ALMOST, ALMOST I was with you…
Since I am against making everything in the gem store in the first place; forcing us to pay for something that should be given as core gameplay is MOST DOOMULOUSNESS!
But to the effect if such an option otherwise existed would be effective. No matter: I assume the degree of difficulty of “making a UI to this effect” would be “too hard for ArenaNet”. I mean… one thing for just human females?:)
The solution? Revert to launch animation and stop messin’ with the game!
Indeed it is so…
If every two weeks another forum subsection is created pretty soon there is gonna be a ton of forums. Instead each release of a like theme (like the last two) should be combined into one forum subsection: To fragment everything has no effective use…
No, if it was based on player input it would have filled quite significantly during the first few days, slowed down and by the second week stopped moving altogether.
Exactly. All that shall be said on the matter…
Indeed it is so…
Answer? No. If you remember it is just timed to the end of the release like the “Flame and Frost” final chapter was.
Good call on this one btw. What is worse is that this change is a “stealth change”. If ArenaNet wishes to do something then that is what patch notes are there: It shows once again Anet cannot be trusted…
Indeed it is so…
Call me crazy, but the old female running animation reminded me more of a adventurous disney princess running in a dress, than a mighty & armored warrior heroine.
The “new” animation is better if only because it removes the (what some posters in this thread call) ""feminine"" flailing arms.
It’s a shame that it introduces clipping errors though.
Calling you crazy. Not all of use play Heavy armor classes:) Light Armor classes should have more movement because we don’t have massive armor weight to deal with.
(edited by The Master.2893)
Hard Core Mode is easy in GW2. Anyone who claim it isn’t is indeed no very good at MMORPGs.
First of all you can lvl 1-90 without combat via crafting. As long as you have a good party you can do most non-dungeon content. Even the dungeon Story mode is possible without too much effort and even Explore mode is possible if your group is skilled/geared.
…and ones wondering about “how internet lag affects this”: Remember if you dc you will be insta-removed from the game (within a few seconds) unlike WoW whereas it can take 20 seconds or more. You will be alive on the other side as long as you are not downed. Due to changes in rules in PvP last Winter dieing in combat is lethal and will kill you and therefore Hard Core mode here is more so “impossible”.
Living Story content always changes so “keeping your distance” is important but with the “downed state” in GW2 it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to die outside of PvP zones: You have to be completely playing your class wrong to do so. The amazing combat system and dodge mechanics not to mention healing abilities that ArenaNet made for this game makes it EASY to stay alive. If you are dieing in World PvE areas you are simply not a skilled gamer.
There is no equal to the “fun of Hard Core Mode”… not knowing if every decision you make will be your last. True this activity usually leads to “anti-social behavior” because you cannnot trust anyone no matter it is most “fun” and “realistic” gameplay possible.
Anyone who “complains” that “Hard Core Mode is impossible” are simply the comments from a failed player population….
Indeed it is so…
(edited by The Master.2893)
…Indeed more temp content. No way this can be done in 2 weeks… even 4 weeks. Too much content and never enough time…

when the hell was there a dungeon?
There was one last year related to the Mad King Tower. This year was the one located in Charr city land that was short. A Dungeon by traditional definition? No but something like it nonetheless.
Oh that wasn’t the dungeon that was just an intro to the story.
Yea I know but I think the poster above was referring to this as “a dungeon”.
Those centaurs violate the nonaggression pact on an hourly basis. Just take a walk through Queensboro.
Queensdale lands are under the control of the Seraph and not Lion’s Arch. Notice the outpost in the swamp is untouched but all the Seraph bases are. The goal is, as stated in personal story, to overthrow the Queen by defeating her forces.
Scarlet’s involvement in the story seems to have come at the cost of the story’s integrity. It feels like we are on Scarlet’s Tiki-Tour of evil and not foiling some master plan threatening Tyria.
AHahhahahaha…. couldn’t say it better myself indeed…
The Nightmare Within…. is ArenaNet’s failed attempt(s) to advance a storyline…
Just wondering if I am alone in this.
Whats so wrong with “showing skin”?…..
