Maybe if you got 2 chests for 1 piece of grass… but just ‘maybe’.

That said, I’m sure Anet is making a ton of money on these things. Until they don’t, these will be around.

Or until a lawyer realizes that they are running a gambling scheme and sues them. I’m pretty sure there are laws to regulate gambling and that’s exactly what these chests are, a gamble system.

Med Kit vs. Healing Turret

in Engineer

Posted by: Theik.9340

Theik.9340

What I do with my engineer is the following:

Healing turret:

Use Regenerating Mist (tool belt when it has not been placed)
Place Turret (get a good heal)
Instantly use Cleansing Burst

Wait for Cleansing Burst to go off when the turret next attacks, and instantly detonate it so you also get a water healing combo.

This way you can get quite a bit of burst healing instantly, while also destroying your turret as soon as possible to get the cooldown going again.

I'm downed! (Why engineer downed skills suck.)

in Engineer

Posted by: Theik.9340

Theik.9340

Alright, I’m sure it has happened to all of you. You’re playing your engineer, you get mobbed, you nearly win the battle but one enemy is left standing with 15 or so percent HP. On any other class you’d just finish that mob off in your downed state, but not on an engineer, no not in the slightest. When you go down with an engineer, you’re pretty much down for good.

Let’s look at the kit that players get when it comes to getting back up to their feet.

1) A spammable attack, meant for taking down the enemy.
2) Some sort of ‘get away’ or CC move to prevent damage for a bit.
3) Something unique-esque. High damage move, faster revive, insta revive but die after.
4) Bandage. We all know this one.

However, when it comes to engineers, these skills aren’t exactly good. I’ll tell you why.

Throw Junk
It might throw junk, but this skill is junk as well. I understand that “random” is a gimmick that comes back to the engineer a lot. There are good uses of random (If I use this I might get might or fury, both useful) and there are bad uses of random. (I am rapidly losing HP and instead of doing the last bit of damage on this monster, I am consistently stacking weakness on it.)

Throw Junk does:
Damage: 128
Bleeding (2 stacks): 3 s (255 damage) OR Chilled: 3 s OR Weakness: 3 s

Now in theory this doesn’t look so bad. Bleeding will help kill faster, chilled will stop enemies from using skills as often and weakness will make non-critical hits do 50% less damage at 50% chance.

However, you’re still going to get killed if you chill the enemy (they will just keep auto attacking) and even if you do weakness on them, you only delay the inevitable. Eventually your HP will run out, even if you could get the mob to stop attacking you entirely.

So what do other classes have?

Well, a thief has throw dirt, which does even less damage on it. Seems like Engineer is better of, right? But no, throw dirt bleeds guaranteed on every hit, allowing you to dps faster. Life leech does less damage but restores health, mesmer does more damage and applies a guaranteed debuff that does more damage, etc. The only other class who seems to be screwed with their downed 1 is Guardian, which has it even worse.

Why is this skill bad?
When you’re down and you’re facing an enemy with a bit of HP left, you want reliable damage. “I died because instead of getting bleeding twice, I stacked 25 seconds of weakness on the mob” is not a good way of letting somebody die.

How to fix:
Increase the base damage to make it do more reliable DPS. Alternatively, make it 1 stack of bleed but make it apply all those affects at once instead of randomly. Either way, make this something to reliable kill a mob with.

Grappling Line
As much fun as it might be to shout “get over here”, this skill simply makes no sense. Every other class gets something to help them take less damage (aoe daze, teleport away, 2 second knockdown, aoe knockback), but engineer gets something that actually pulls the enemy towards them, making it easier to damage them. The only reason this skill even seems to exist is to combo into 3, which is just bad design all around because you’ll often die before 3 even becomes available.

Why is this skill bad?
It doesn’t help you in any way. If you’re down, the last thing you want is to have an enemy on top of you beating you to death.

How to fix:
Just get rid of it and move 3 ( Booby Trap ) to this slot.

Booby Trap
You heard me, move this skill to the 2 slot. You’ll want to tone down the damage of it because right now it does a bit too much compared to other skills of other classes, but this gives a reliable way for the engineer to knock enemies away from him/herself, buying them some more time to bandage, call for help, etc.

A new 3?
That obviously leaves one gaping hole, they will need a new 3. I am certain the developers can come up with something good, but here are just some random suggestions that I think could work.

Elixer D
Drink a danger elixer, which instantly rallies you, but applies the following conditions to you:

Chilled, Crippled, Immobilized, Vulnerable * 10, Weakness, immune to condition removal

The idea here being that you instantly get to rally and start fighting again, but you’re at a severe disadvantage, making it quite possible that if you do not manage to get away or kill your foe, you’ll be going down again with less HP than last time.

Jetpack
Launch yourself to safety, possibly up a small slope or at least a decent distance away, dealing damage with your exhaust to the enemies that were near you.

You sir are wrong, precision does not affect crit damage. It affects crit chance.

Crit chance is how much chance you have to critically hit. (So 50% = crit once every two hits), where as crit damage is how much damage you deal extra when you crit.

How hard is it to check if a character has moved way more than they should be allowed to, really now?

It’s simple: Server transfer, it’s free and if your server has a low population and get pwned in WvW, I see no reason to stay? If you have friends on your current server, convince them to come with you

This game does not resolve around WvW. It’s a tacked on feature that I am generally fine with pretending it doesn’t exist, other than for my monthly. I know a lot of people on this server and I can do everything I want that doesn’t involve WvW just fine, except this exploration achievement which basically goes “either you’re on a winning server, or you transfer to one, else you’re not finishing me”.

I’m in a guild with 4 friends, and while we’re all skilled players with level 80 characters, that doesn’t really mean much when you want to take a castle with 100+ people defending it.

That’s the thing that’s not really how the game was designed (or most MMO) You can play with 4 of your friends but you will be at a disadvantage…That may be the root of your problem here. It can be done but will require making more exceptions to your play style due to not having the resources of a bigger guild.

As far as I can tell, this is an exploration achievement. I was able to do everything else with the help of just my friends, now you’re telling me the final 3% of my achievement expects me to convince my entire server to come help me in World vs World.

“Don’t worry guys, I know you’ve been getting butchered in there all the time, but if you could just help me cap these points so I can finish my achievement, we can then run for our lives so we don’t have to pay repair costs.”

Really?

I’ve raided plenty in MMOs before, hell I’ve raided with some of the best guilds in WoW, but this has nothing to do with your ability to explore or your ability to raid. In fact, it doesn’t have anything to do with your ability at all, it’s based entirely on the ability of your server as a whole. And if your server has been left pretty much dead after a massive exodus, there’s really not much you can do.

Yup, I have a problem. I’m stuck at 97% map completion, and there’s pretty much nothing I can do about it. It’s the sad tale of a guy who loves to explore, but can’t actually finish it.

But Theik.9340, you must be missing something!
Why yes, I’m missing 29 points of interest, 17 vistas and 1 skillpoint.

See? You’re not stuck! Hooray! Just find out where they are!
I know where they are, I can tell you exactly.
I am missing 7 points of interest and 6 vistas in one WvW borderlands, 6 points of interest and 5 vistas in another borderlands, and 16 points of interest, 1 skill point and 6 vistas in the eternal battlegrounds.

So you even know where to look. Go get them and be done!
I wish I could, but hey. Apparently the game has decided that because I am on a server with a low population count that has been getting butchered in world vs world since before I even joined the server, I am not worthy of a 100% exploration.

It’s not that I do not know where the points of interest or the vistas are, heck I can walk right up to the gate. It’s just that I can’t get to them because my server never actually controls the buildings they are inside.

For instance, there are 4 points of interest, a vista and a skillpoint inside stonemist castle. I’ve never once seen us own stonemist castle, and considering I have had the outnumbered buff and been spawncamped at my own base several times when I went there, I can fairly safely say that my server is never going to own it either.

The Been There, Done That achievement states “Seeking Zhaitan’s corruption in every corner of Tyria”, and quite frankly, I have. The World vs World area is clearly not listed on the Tyria world map and there’s nothing there that suggests Zhaitan even know it exists.

So why is it that I am being punished for being on a low-population server for this achievement? I’m perfectly fine with the fact that we will never control the entire map, I’m okay with the fact that I’ll never max out the “King of the Castle” achievement, but I do want to finish my exploration achievement.

So what exactly is it arenanet expects me to do?

Map transfer to a server that owns everything, then wait a week before I can actually play with my friends again?

Be one of the kittens who ruins the game by hacking, so I can actually get over the walls to get the points of interest?

Perhaps convince that Charr who fires cows all day to lend me his cannon so I can shoot over the walls?

Max Magic Find Necessary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theik.9340

Theik.9340

If you’re going for maximum magic find, don’t bother with 6/6 superior rune of noble, as the 6/6 bonus does not actually give you magic find. Instead put a superior rune of the pirate in that sixth slot to get an extra 10% magic find.

Also try to run Omnomberry Bars whenever you can, as this gives you a decent increase in your magic find and gold find.

However, will all that effort be worth it? Who knows. I haven’t tried it myself. What does 10% magic find even do? Does it make me 10% more likely to find a blue item? Does it give me 10% chance that a blue item will be green instead? Until somebody can give me actual statistics on how exactly magic find even works, I don’t see the real point in trying to max out magic find, it simply doesn’t seem worth the effort.

The Justicers on Henge of Denravi

About us
We’re a small group of friends who have been playing MMOs together forever, consisting of a flying dutchman, two canadians and a strange fellow from the US. We’ve played League of Legends, we’ve played TERA, we’ve played Dark Souls, we’ve even played Ragnarok Online, although none of us will ever actually admit to that one.

We’ve been working on the guild for a while now and we’ve got the guild armorsmith and the guild weaponsmith, we’ve got a guild bank and we even have some of the boosts we could activate if need be. What we do not have is more guild members, and we do need those.

Why?
Well, for Jolly Cooperation of course!

We run exploration mode dungeons, we explore the world, we do some World vs World every now and then and we’re even looking at playing some arena PvP in the future. On top of that, we stand for justice and jolly cooperation, and who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

We do not require you to have a voice chat program (although we do tend to use Skype, but it isn’t a requirement at all), we do not expect you to be level 80 (although some of the things we do will require it) and all we ask is that you actually represent the guild and have some activity going on. We had a bunch of other people in the guild but they all showed up less than once per blue moon and that’s just silly.

So join us and help spread justice!

A lot of zones have this problem, actually. Take the majority of the skill points in Orr, they tend to be swarmed by veterans with ludicrous respawn rates. After trying to fight my way through for 5 minutes straight without making any real progress because things respawned faster than I could kill it, I simply summoned an earth shield, equipped arcane shield and mist form, rushed for the skill point, started channeling while using my shield’s 3 second invulnerability, went into mist form when that ended, then used arcane shield at the end of that and bam, skill point!

Obviously I died to the 50 thousand risen swarming me after all that, but at least I had the frigging skill point.

I think you people are missing the point here, the maker of this thread is not suggesting that a cloth user can wear heavy gear. He/She is suggesting that you can transmute your cloth armor to look like heavy gear. It would still have the same stats as it had as cloth gear, it would still be cloth gear, it just looks like heavy gear.

Quite frankly as a female human elementalist, I would love to see this option to. I can’t for the life of me find any gear that doesn’t make my mage look like a harlot or something that came straight from an anime cosplay event.

Because, the strategy is to defend every corner of the every, not just the front, they can sneak in behind you. All you have to do is get two responbile people to cover the two corners.

This really has nothing to do with “sneaking in”. The risen only walk in from one direction, the stairs. The whole idea of the event is that you slowly work your way up the stairs and then claim them.

There’s a whole pact army at the bottom of the stairs, so nothing is getting through there. They don’t even walk up the stairs, which would make it something you could defend against. They just appear out of thin air inside of the square, making it impossible to do with a smaller group because you don’t have the manpower to spread out and kill the acolytes that keep respawning over and over every 15 seconds.

I’m going to make an assumption here, you parked your character in an area where after you went AFK, an event took place. You were in a bad spot and you got killed. People who came to the event noticed and revived you. You died again. You got revived again. Because you weren’t getting yourself out to safety you kept dying and getting revived over and over, breaking all your gear.

I'd love to run Arah... so could we please make the events less frustrating?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Theik.9340

Theik.9340

A bunch of friends and I would love to run explorer runs of Arah every day and we would, but there are some truly frustrating events before opening the gates that are so clunky that they fail 90% of the time on my server.

In particular, there’s two events that really need to be looked at, because they are far more frustrating than they ought to be:

Help Crusader Angaria signal reinforcements for the assault on Arah
Sounds easy enough, right? Defend a crusader while she signals for reinforcements so the assault on Arah is easier? You’d think, but this Charr lady seems to have no idea how to actually signal for reinforcements.

It doesn’t matter how many people I manage to collect, we can never seem to finish this event because Angaria loses all interest in signalling for reinforcements the very moment an undead comes even remotely close to the tree on the other side of the ocean.

Her job is to signal for reinforcements, not fight all the time. Can we please have her acting like every other NPC in the game we’re supposed to defend and have her focus purely on her task? It’s simply not possible to kill the undead fast enough to get her to the point where she isn’t chasing something around, even with a group of 20+ people there.

Ensure that the Pact holds the Gates of Arah
Well this looks easy enough. We have this big red square and we have to kill all the risen in there. Kill the big eyeball. Check. Kill the other risen. Check. Alright so now we have risen coming down from the stairs into our blue area, turning it red.

The idea here is obvious, we have to fight them on the stairs to keep them out of the area. Ignoring the fact that their immunity seems to last too long and they will sometimes already be in the area before it wears out, this wouldn’t have been that much of a problem. A group of 10 people can fairly easily hold the stairs.

Except there’s an acolyte that spawned on the far end of the square. No deal, we’ll kill it. Wait, it’s still red? Oh, now there’s one in the other far end corner.

You could say that this adds challenge and teamwork, but it seems like a blatant oversight. If we’re supposed to protect the area and prevent enemies coming down the stairs from Arah from entering it, why do we have these random insignificant undead spawning in the area constantly? They didn’t walk there, there was nothing we could have done to possibly stop them from interrupting the capture.

To make matters worse, this happens so often that you will find it pretty much impossible to actually take the gates with a small group, because you won’t have the ability to defend both the stairs AND keep all the respawns out of the area.

Please disable the spawning of enemies in the area after the eyeball is dead or something, and don’t reenable it until the event has failed or control of Arah is lost, because right now it’s just a challenge in frustration of how many times you want to try and retake Arah and hope that you succeed this time at whack-a-mole.

3) Nope, there is no way to go back and forth between transmutable sets. Once you’ve transmuted the karma stats on the racial armor, your karma armor will be gone forever. You could however simply transmute different items onto both your karma and your racial set. For example, take any exotic item you like the stats of and transmute that onto your racial armor, then get another one of the same exotic item and transmute it onto your karma armor.

You’ll then have a karma item and a racial item with the same stats and you can wear whichever one you like at that moment.

Theik’s amazing water elementalist healer:
Traits:
10 air magic (Soothing Winds)
30 water magic (Cleansing Wave / Aquamancer’s Alacrity / Cleansing Water)
30 Arcana (Final Shielding / Elemental Attunement / Arcane Resurrection)

Runes / Sigils:
6 Superior Runes of Dwayna
Superior Sigil of Water

Gameplay:
Cycle between mostly water (you should be in this form the most), fire (quick switch there for might to all allies) and earth (quick switch there for protection to all allies).

I’d suggest a staff, keep dropping ice spikes onto the enemies for a 10% bonus damage for everybody in your party, while occasionally swapping around elements to quickly give some buffs to everybody. Keep your water healing spells up as much as possible and use your own heal combined with dwayna runes to quickly give everybody regen. (Especially useful if everybody gets feared, cause this will also remove fear from everybody instantly because of Cleansing Water)

Glyph of Renewal is going to be your go-to guy for quickly helping people. In large scale events, use it with earth attunement to quickly get several people up at once. Use it with air to get somebody up and out of a tricky situation. Use it with water to remind yourself that the devs still haven’t fixed the full heal it’s supposed to do. Stone attune revive can also be useful for the magnetic shield it gives in ranged-heavy fights.

You’re not going to be able to keep people up if they don’t take good care of themselves like you would be able to in other MMOs, but you are offering a lot of healing over time as well as buff/debuff utility. If your team isn’t standing in aoe damage all day long, you should have no trouble keeping everybody topped off and decently alive.

I think there’s a few reasons as to why he was chosen to be the leader of the pact. However, I personally think it would have made more sense for him to be an adviser of sorts.

Trahearne is the main guy when it comes to Orr. He’s studied it all his life and he knows more about Zhaitan than anybody else. This makes him an obvious choice when you need information about the undead plague and how to combat it.

Trahearne’s wild hunt is to cleanse Orr. He is destined to cure Orr and make the lands fertile again.

Trahearne is one of the most powerful necromancers in Tyria. He knows the rituals and methods required to fight against Zhaitan.

However, I do not think he should have been made the leader of the pact. His leadership abilities are said to be rather poor and most characters put no real trust in him. He should have been kept to an advising role, if you ask me.

Underwater combat + Superior Runes -> Something I noticed

For those of you who are using 6/6 superior runes, if you pay close attention you’ll find that your set bonus is actually broken if you go underwater. Looking at your character screen it will not tell you, but I’ve tested this with Superior Runes of Dwayna, if I went underwater and used my heal skill, it would not give me or allies near me regeneration.

Putting another superior rune of Dwayna into my breather (thus putting me at 7/6) fixed this and caused the regeneration to also proc underwater.

My assumption is that when you go underwater your headgear is basically replaced with the breather, causing you to fall down to 5/6 if you do not have a rune in the breather. However, the tooltips aren’t very adequate at explaining this. In fact if you set it up so that it will work both under and above the water, the system will scream bright red 7/6 at you as if you’re trying something really stupid.

Just figured I’d share it for people who do underwater combat.

I’m seeing a lot of replies along the lines of:

“You’re penalizing the winning side for winning.”

and

“You want to be handed free stuff because you can’t win.”

That really is not the point behind these suggestions. The point was to make the World vs World a place where you want to go after you’ve taken the entire map. As it currently stands you could most likely leave the map after taking it over and it’ll be days before the enemy team has taken the majority of it back without any resistance.

The problem is not that the losing side isn’t being given free stuff, the problem is that the winning side is giving free stuff, simply because they are winning. “Oh, you control the entire map, that’s nice. Have 15% extra HP, 150 to all stats and enough supplies to withstand seven different servers attacking you at once.”

They are being given such a massive advantage that there has to be something to compensate for it, the losing side needs to be given a chance to fight back.

Let’s take a different example, we have a gladiator arena where you fight until one team has been defeated. This goes on during the entire week. Each side is allowed to bring ten warriors, and they’re armed in leather armor and wield swords.

Side A wins the first fight and they may now wear chainmail. This advantage makes them win the next fight as well, at which point they’re allowed to wear platemail. At some point side A is wielding machine guns, and side B is still stuck with their leather armor and flimsy swords. While you could argue that “if side B works together and comes up with a plan they could win”, there’s no real way that is ever going to happen. Eventually side B is going to have difficulty finding people stupid enough to even try to go up against side B, and the arena sees no action anymore.

Now this might sound like a pretty silly analogy, but this is pretty much what is currently happening. An early win by one side pretty much guarantees that they get such a major advantage that side B will see no option but to simply give up and wait for the reset.

Then there’s the argument that people would lose on purpose, only to then dominate with their buffs. This is, of course, ridiculous. The buffs are not “there to stay”. If each side controls half the map (yes there’s three sides, but for the sake of simplicity let’s pretend there’s only two) then there are no buffs for either side, they’re on even grounds. If side A decides to stop fighting and lets side B take everything, yes, they will get some buffs to make up for it when people decide to play again.

If they then get everybody to play again and use those buffs to quickly take back half the map, the two sides are on even grounds again. It’s not like the fact that they were losing at some point is going to give them champions for the rest of the week. Whatever side is losing at that point should be given some slack, to keep people interested.

You can say what you want, but the current system is not interesting for either side. I’ve seen how the World vs World currently looks. If I attack a camp with some friends, hundreds of players from the other side show up.

Why? Because it’s the only action going on on the entire map. Because the system is stacked so heavily against one side, the other side gives up.

One side has nobody to fight, the other side has no real chance to win a fight with the other side. As a result side A is bored all day and side B refuses to leave their safe zone. Spawn camping happens because people still need their monthlies and nobody is truly enjoying World vs World at that point.

Yes, it might feel “unfair” to you that the losing side is given a chance to fight back. But at the very least it will result in some actual world vs world action happening. Or would you rather keep on spawn camping for your world vs world monthly kills?

Organize your server if you want to win WvW. Snowballing exists because arenanet wants clear cut winners. It would suck if you fought for 7 days and felt like you didn’t actually achieve anything. I’ve been on a losing server for months and were finally winning match ups, and it isn’t because server transfers gained us anything, it’s because we organized to the point where we can win.

You know what sucks even more?

A world vs world that is over in three hours tops and is a dead zone for the rest of the week. These changes could help make a clear-cut winner a clear-cut winner that actually has to keep PvPing to keep their winnings.

Right now the system allows a group of 1000+ players to just zerg the whole deal to create a massive snowball effect, and then a group of 10 players can hold the entire map for the rest of the week because the other team is at such a major disadvantage from that point on.

Should Supply Camps be harder to take?

You’re missing the point. If your side already controls the entire map, you do not deserve to have strong camps that are difficult to take. It’s player versus player, not player versus player with strong NPCs.

The NPCs are only there to buy you time to respond, they’re not supposed to hold the entire map by themselves once you have taken it over.

Take a look at this topic to see exactly why they should -not- be stronger, and in fact should most likely be weaker depending on who controls the map.

You are already at an advantage on the defending side, there is no reason to make that advantage even more unfair.

A lot of great points here, though you didn’t speak too much on the subject of tower/keep upgrades, which is one of the biggest sources of snowballing.

Once the winning team controls the entire map, all of the supply camps and the orbs.. they have ample supply going to every single fortification. These forts are quickly upgraded to the point where the losing team has no hope of mounting an offense. Reinforced walls, gates, cannons, oil, extraneous siege weapons, upgraded guards, siege vendors.. etc. Even if the losing team controls a couple of supply camps, breaking into a fully upgraded tower may be nearly impossible because there are no safe positions to build trebuchets to attack from a distance.

Should this be changed? Not necessarily.. but it’s just another reason that WvW tends to snowball.

I did indeed forget to mention that one. I was going to make a mention of it as well, but the post was already getting so long that I had to split it up into two posts just to be able to post it. This is indeed yet another snowball effect that makes it impossible to turn the tides around.

You missed the biggest snowballer: Fickle Players

While this may be true, this is not actually something arenanet can do much about. You can change the system to give more incentive for players who feel that they are on the losing side to keep playing, but you can’t exactly tell losing players that they should keep playing a system that is stacked against them. It doesn’t work that way.

people who play WvW transfer off server, which is really depressing – but ranking wise you guys honestly don’t seem to be doing so bad.

This is simply because of the way the ranking system works, it is flawed. Henge of Denravi absolutely dominated the World vs World scene at the start, which skyrocketed their ranking. Then everybody left and the server couldn’t do anything.

It is going to take several more weeks before the ranking drops enough to actually be at the rating the server currently can handle. While it might be at rating “completely fictional number” 1000, they are only that rating because they were rating 1500 before and are slowly going down from being annihilated each week, where their current performance is in fact only rating 250.
