RNG can just be that cruel. Another example is a warrior build I’m using that has 99% crit with Signet mastery and Fury up (and I do make sure those are up all the time)
I’ve already had 2 fights against champions where my attacks did not crit for half the fight.

For a number of people it already was a crashfest before HoT was even announced :P

Still, this is the first example I’ve seen of a game in which you can lose points for winning a ranked match. I know a few that reward 0 progression, but losing points after winning … rofl. Good thing I don’t play ranked I guess xD

Is the queue system not able to find a replacement player if the 10th one does not accept in time ?
The queue system for Halo 2 did look for replacement players if people left/did not accept during a queue, and with how old that game is I would think all new games work the same, because it is a real neat system.

To be clear, Zerker meta is not the same as zerker gear : it is maxed out dmg output above all else.

That said, I think Anet have a rather tough problem with making non-max damage builds appealing with how GW2’s combat works. The faster you kill something, the less time it has to damage you, healing other players being rather lackluster for most professions plus being able to evade attacks entirely and the CD on that makes killing things fast the best way to mitigate damage in most cases. If the fight takes longer the enemy has more time to damage you and potentially hit you while you’re unable to dodge.
How to fix that I wouldn’t know. Maybe have defense traited builds do even less damage but be a lot more harder to kill ? Have healing builds be very good at keeping others alive, but rather squishy and unable to keep oneself alive ? Nerf damage builds so that defensive and supportive builds do as much damage ? No clue … but then again I am not a game designer

People are not complaining about the time-gating because they want things NOW.

They are complaining about the fact that it prevents progression on what they currently wanted to work on in the game.
If something takes a long time to complete, people will spend a lot of time completing it.
If something can only be completed in tiny steps, while after every single step something tells you “Sorry, you are not allowed to do that before 24 hours have passed – come back later” most people are going to leave and come back later.

Well, you don’t HAVE to be in the new zones, or do the raids … unless you desperately want the items you can get there that is.
I personally also do not like any of the new zones, it feels too much like you MUST be in a group, log in to that map’s TeamSpeak server or whatever somebody set up and grind out that meta event … just because you want to completely explore the map. That’s not how it went in the old maps, there you can do the (meta)events when you feel like it, or wander around to get 100% exploration.
So, figuring the new maps are not meant for me, I just continue with the activities I enjoyed in the older zones and never set foot in the new ones anymore. Because getting frustrated about yet another thing locked behind a meta-event, bugs or whatever is not why I play this game

Tell me the truth: Warrior and PVE

Warrior is still fine in PvE. Doing damage is what matters the most there, and doing damage, lots of damage, has never really been an issue for Warriors. Add to that abilities that make staying alive whilst doing damage not an issue (endure pain, healing signet etc) banners, Phalanx Streangth and a decent number of different weapons/builds that all do lots of damage and you have yourself a very versatile profession … for PvE. For PvP the Warrior just lacks offensive damage mitigation like blinds, gap closers that actually work how they are suppose to, skills with build in evades and the possibility to have a build that has enough damage and also keeps him alive long enough to actually do that damage.

I don’t find any of the new mobs troublesome … but I still have a complaint about them.

So many of them do things that require you to step back and wait untill they finished doing their fancy moves before you can continue killing them.
Smokescales – you walk out the smoke field, then kindly have to wait for the thing to finish its “I’m breathing smoke !” animation, notice where you are and move out of the smoke field.
The little fire wyverns – once it starts the whole flying-up-into-the-air-and-creating-a-large-fire-field process, you can just walk to where the fire field doesn’t reach and wait for like half a minute untill the bloody thing comes down and becomes targetable again.
The frogs – same thing, just wait out the whole stealth, teleport and evade chain before you can start damaging them again.

Just so much standing around waiting for the time window in which you can damage a mob … it is so tedious and boring, even more so than the mobs in the old zones. At least with the older mobs you can create a challenge for yourself by pulling a large number of them, and do not have these 10-20 second breaks each fight to just stand around and watch the show. With the new ones there are just so many things that artificially stretch out how long it takes to defeat them it’s not even funny.

Some random warrior elite specc suggestions

in Warrior

Posted by: Theloseronian.2075

Theloseronian.2075

It seems that a lot of people can agree on that the current warrior elite specc doesn’t really shine in any department. Now I am absolutely not an expert on anything game-design or balance related, but here are some ideas that Anet can do with as they see fit : use some of it, use none of it, ignore it, censor it or permaban my account for the staggering amount of stupidity, just whatever

Part of the ‘Berserker problem’ might be that it tries to cover too many aspects in a single trait line : on the one hand it enables warriors to equip torches and do lots of things with burning – while on the other hand there are some traits that seem to almost desperately try to justify the name Berserker.

It might be a better idea to rename the elite specc Pillager (or raider) and just focus mostly on the torch, and setting things on fire.
Besides the name there shouldn’t be too many things changed, partly because it probably require too much resources but also because it’s already out there.
Limit the changes to adjusting the traits to be more about the burning condition, spreading burning stacks, perhaps some benefits from setting things on fire like a little health return for burning damage done ?
If possible (but I think this would be to large a change to succesfully implement) have the Primal Burst skills replace the standard Burst skills entirely, meaning you’d only have one adrenaline bar, and remove the Berserker stance. This would require some rebalancing of the Primal Bursts and thought about how it would interact with traits that do different things depending on the number of adrenaline bars.
However, I think this would make the Pillager (now Berserker) really feel different than a standard warrior : the burst skill becomes less damaging and impactfull, but with a lower CD and only one bar to fill can still be just as potent, as you can use multiple primal bursts in the same time you can normally use one 3 bar burst skill.

Now onto the Berserker. The name alone is super hype merely because of the name it feels almost mandatory to get the elite specc, no matter what it does. But it might be better to have a elite specc fully dedicated to it, rather than having it share the same narrow traitline with running around like a pyromaniac.

Now here’s my most crazy idea for it : have the Berserker elite specc have no immobile downed state, but more something between having used Vengeance and being downed : the Berserker can still walk around, but slower and has only 1 or 2 slow, long CD melee attacks but with some decent (or maybe even large amount of) damage. This should not be sustainable of course, so limit the time the Berserker can stay in this ‘downed state’ by doing damage to enemies : if the Berserker is getting kited, he should be going down fairly quick.
The other two alternative abilities could be some very minor CC (like a short slow) and maybe something that does a little heal burst, but not keep the Berserker on its feet, as he should focus on hitting enemies to do that.
Besides that, maybe a adrenaline mechanic where the Berserker constantly generates adrenaline at a quite decent rate (he’s very angry all the time ofcourse) but has a penalty for remaining at a full 3 bars for too long.
As for the new weapon it would allow warriors to equip : a Greataxe would ofcourse be perfect, but untill that time a Staff could also work with the theme.

Now here two elite specc ideas that could fit with the Warrior for maybe some points in the far, distant future :

Dualist
- New weapon : offhand pistol
- Trait gimmick : benefits for succesfully blocking (maybe also dodging) attacks, utility skills that are great for sticking to one target but bad for running away, great single target, bad (like almost none) AoE damage (that might require different burst skills)

Brawler
-New weapon : daggers
- Trait gimmick : focus on keeping a target down and disabled, not crazy damage but annoying to get away from and fight against. New trick utility skills … dirty tricks ofcourse. A disarm skill would be cool, could perhaps work like being transformed into a Moa (enemy gains acces to inferior unarmed skills instead of weapon skills)

So now that I got this off my chest, I’ll go back to enjoying the rest of the HoT expansion. So far, besides very few minor annoyances (small bugs and such) I’m having a great time enjoying all the content !

Keep up the great work Anet !

Berserker BWE3 Feedback

in Warrior

Posted by: Theloseronian.2075

Theloseronian.2075

I tried a power Berserker in PVE. It was kinda alright, but needing 30 adrenaline before you can enter berserker means that the zerker mode only sees use in extended fights.
The Axe primal burst is really nice against multiple enemies, and with the short CD might even mean a dmg increase against single target if you can spam it.

The downside is that, as many have said before, it is REALLY hard to give up one of the other traitlines for Berserker.
You need Strength for either the Axe mastery or Berserkers power GM traits.
Arms is also hard to give up with Signet mastery, and the 100% crit on bursts is also kinda neat with axes.
Without Discipline for Warriors sprint, Brawlers recovery or Destruction of the empowered, and Heightened Focus or Burst mastery are also hard to miss … and the main one ofcourse Fast Hands.

The only issues I had in BWE 2 was with the smokescales (too many blinds/evades, and they never moved out of their safe zone long enough to land a hit on them) and to a lesser extend the snipers (interrupts were just a waste, dodging behind them seemed the only option)

Besides that, it was great to have to asess the situation an a plan before running at some mobs – something I usually only had to do when I try to solo champoins on underleved characters.

Now it feels even more easy than running around in Silverwastes

If raids are going to be only for those who have the time and ambition to get a group of people together and learn the ins and outs of each encounter in order to beat it, I am totally fine with it even if that would make it highly unlikely I ever get to do a raid.

If raids are only for those who have the time to grind full ascended gear with eveything upgraded and best in slot for enough different professions so that they can always have the only viable group composition for each encounter, then I start having issues with it. Because at that point there IS a gear threshold that requires such a time investment only those with an abundance of spare time can accomplish it – rather than being good at their chosen build.
And was exactly the reason I quit WoW – in that game it was never about skill, but about who has the most free time to get the best gear as soon as possible.

In Silverwastes you are more likely to get shouted at for doing AoE damage in some fights (any longbow ability that’s not the autoattack) than using a Rifle. And most PvE is so easy that it almost doesn’t matter what kind of weapon you bring, as long as it does some damage ; the most importand thing to do is staying alive and keep on doing damage (personall I have yet to see build discrimination anywhere outside PvP)

If you start you Eviscerate right after you opponent dodged, it’ll (if timed right) land right when he comes out of the dodge and is unable to evade instantly again. At least that seems to work in my experience, not sure if it’s just that I’m matched up against ppl just as bad at sPvP as me :P

The Berserkers Might trait always seemed to be a trap to me (except maybe when you almost excusively use GS, of which the burst is hardly worth using anyhow) as it means not using a damage skill in the hope of doing more damage … I rather get Adrenaline quicker and get another Eviscerate in.

How about adding a 2nd activation to Defiant Stance that stops the turns-damage-into-heal but heals for a small amount ? Just enough to make it somewhat worth it when you’re not in a zerg, but just a little less than other heals.
Maybe add a cast-time so that you cannot wait untill just before the buff ends to heal for even more than it does now while in a zerg.

It would have been better if there had been the option of playing the missions as Caithe, following Caithe, or just watch it as a cutscene.
I often don’t have much time to play GW2, so when I do I intent to fully enjoy whatever character and proffesion I choose to play at that time. When a Living Story mission then forces me to play a different character with a different skillset it just leaves me feeling rather frustrated, and only wanting to rush through it even faster, not paying any attention whatsoever to the story.

in Warrior

Posted by: Theloseronian.2075

Theloseronian.2075

It’s just a matter of personal preferences. I don’t like proffesions that are squishy and stand a long distance from their target, only to teleport/stealth/whatever away when something gets close.
PvE in GW2 is rather dull most of the time, but there is something satisfying about pulling a ton of mobs together before cleaving them all to bits with a single Hundred Blades. I also like the larger bosses that are risky to do melee damage to. Standing next to them and not being smashed to the ground constantly can be really tricky, but it’s really rewarding when you manage to avoid all the hits (which is impossible if there are so many other players that the spell-effects obscure the boss to such an extend you can’t see anything…)

Doing solo-pve I thought the change to adrenaline drain was nasty but managable. But then I did some event chains with large groups of other players … and mobs got killed before even getting one bar, and it dissappeared before I could tag the next mob. It felt kinda weird to stand in the middle of what looked like a decent sized battleground with zero adrenaline all the time, even using ranged attacks, gapclosers and warriors sprint. Never knew that a warrior could be so zen with so much fighting around xD The chance to use any burst skill was just non-excistent. Could use burst skills almost only against bosses, chapions and the occasional veteran with a large amount of health. So it seems that the larger a group is the more useless burstskills are :p

Well I am using it for PvE only at the moment, in which case the low CC isn’t really an issue. In PvP it might be interesting to give it a try with a shield instead of offhand axe and Leg Specialist, as Sword mainhand has a cripple on the autoattack chain and on 2, while Axe has a ranged cripple with 3. Immobilize might not be as hard CC as a stun/daze, but itsn’t ignored by stability which can be huge.

Currently using a build with Sword/Axe Axe/Mace traits 4(X V) 6(I VIII XIII) 0 0 4(VI IX) but have no idea how to make shure it does more or as much dmg as the GS with zerkers power.
Skillrotation starts with axe/mace 2, 4, full autoattack chain, 2, Eviscerate, switch to sword/axe 4, 3 when mob below 50% if not autoattack, switch back when weaponswap CD finished with usually the sword burst ready and used before that, repeat whole procces. It’s cool part is how you can have two 10k+ crits in quick succession when bosses are below 50% And building adrenaline is not really an issue, even against a single standard mob you often end with 3 or close to full bars (You still lose it like almost instantly after combat though)

support ability’s might have a longer CD, but you also don’t need to spam them. Besides the glasscannon Thief, no class can kill another class in a matter of seconds (unless one stands still , and doesn’t move the whole fight) I think support in this game is not about outhealing the damage done to your allies, but preventing damage done to your allies. You also have to use stuns/blinds/and so on besides the heals and buffs, those you should save for when one ally forgot to dodge or missed a disable skill. On my warrior, I’m 2-manning champion mobs without much effort. Using Hammer/Mace shield, you have a lot of stuns and interrupts. Combine that with good dodging (not spamming, save them for big hits/stuns) and using my heal in time, I can tank the mob without going below 80% hp. Meanwhile the other guy can keep on dishing out damage (preferably at range) So playing support is more about using your ability’s at the right time, not spamming heals.

While I’m playing GW2 I’m traveling around the maps, trying all the event chains, talking to named NPC’s to see what they have to say and so on I’m having so much fun I totally forget about progression. After starting to gather materials to lvl my crafting I often end up on the other side of the map while doing an event chain. With all the stories that you can find in the events, area’s, NPC’s and jump puzzles I often gained a bunch of cash and skillpoints whithout even noticing. So far I don’t see any reason why MMO’s should be about grinding or progressoin, because I’m having a lot of fun in this MMO without doing any of that. That the best known MMO is all about grinding your brain out, progression that no real casual player can keep up with (like those who play only 8-12 hours a week) and holding your hand doesn’t mean that all MMO’s should be like that. If some people enjoy those things ; there is the perfect game for you, and it’s not GW2.

Theloseronian.2075

An interesting opinion OP, but I beg to differ on a few points.

If you are runnig back from the closest waypoint in dungeons all the time, you’re doing something wrong. If you work together, organise your CC ability’s, AoE condition removers and heal cooldowns and all know how to time your dodgerolls, you can do a dungeonrun with no deaths feeling hardly challenged. With a pick-up group that’s not often going to happen, but if you’re lucky and end up with players that know what they’re doing it’s still not going to leave you poor from repairs. The Downed State mechanic is a big help there, because when you do fail a dodge you’re not instantly out of the fight. Most of the times the mobs will leave you alone, enabling you to get yourself back up, or otherwise somebody can help you out while having a damage reducing or ignoring ability active (Endure Pain for example)Yes, in sPvP or WvW the downed state has not much impact .. unless your allies care about you and CC anybody trying to finish you before helping you up.

About the complain about Anet caring about people without state-of-the-art computers : you know that there exist people that can’t affort a good or new gaming computer, but would still like to play GW2 ? Should they be left out just because they are in a less fortunate financial situation ? I could affort to buy GW2 and play it because it has no sub-fee like other games, but it’s going to be quite a while before I can get a better computer again.

The free server transfer does indeed have some negative effects, but on the plus side friends who ended up on different servers can join up to play together more easy, and it provides a way to get all the exploration for WvW done quicker.
I don’t know much about night capping, so far the match-ups my server had either had night-capping on both sides or not at all.
Personally I enjoy all the jump puzzles, npc stuff and skillpoints in WvW for it allows me things to do when I don’t feel like moving with the zerg anymore. I’ve also heard of players who are more into PvE that went to the mists to do some of those things but ending up in a keep assault, enjoying it and after that spending some more time helping out their server in WvW. And the 100g pricetag for Commander is a good thing, for it isn’t meant to be accesable to everybody. The price means that only people who really plan and organise around battling in WvW will get it, and not everybody who just had some spare coin.
(And Blizzard listening to their players ? That’s not all players, just like Anet or any other gaming company. My friend that also plays WoW is still complaining about that ability warriors got that can’t even leap over a pebble, and still isn’t fixed an expansion later.)

But then again everybody enjoys different games. I’ve tryed Planetside 2 beta, but found out I don’t like FPS and didn’t like the fact that there is nothing else to do but point and click on other people.
