@John Smith: Why the huge tax on a good which ANet wants to sell? (Gem transfer tax)

I’ve got this crazy theory that the gem market is really a sham, completely controlled by A-net.
Do you ever set the prices on the gems you sell? No? who are you selling them to? The people putting out buys for gems? Nope, no one can put out orders for gems, I think you’re selling directly to a-net, and getting gems directly from a-net, maybe based on current gold prices of goods, maybe not.
Current gold prices on good are going down, whilst on the other hand Gem prices are going up. Your theory doesn’t hold.
Look on the bright side, you’ll get a good laugh when Cinnamon isn’t used in anything Halloween related.

Are you sure there’s a tax on Gem > Gold sales?
You can buy keys with in game gold already.
Buy Gems with Gold > Buy Keys with Gems.
Currently works out about ~67 silver a key if you buy the 5 key pack for 450 Gems.
Press ‘O’ in game, then click the second tab down for the Gem <> Gold Exchange.

Chests wont hit 2s, there’s a huge incoming supply of them every day.
They’ve already hit their post announcement peak and are starting to drop again, if you buy now expecting to make money on them you’ll lose out.
Theres 400,000 of the kitten things on the AH, and probably a good multiple of that as well in people banks. Most people have a stack of 250 bought already in their banks from when they were 2c each. If you think most people are going to clear out their own stash of chests via keys, and still need more after that, you’re a fool.
Were you following set recipes or just throwing random stuff in there?
Guess I’ll just keep bug reporting it when it happens?

Did we ever get a solution for this?
SoS has become an endless zerg 24/7, huge numbers all around the clock.
You’re going to win this match, because the other 2 servers just cant bring those numbers to the table.
Congrats, and I hope you’re prepared for a very boring, non-competitive match all week.
Oh my god, how many HoD guild transferred to SoS when theyt heard that they have a stong Oceanic presence?
I’m EU, and every time I log in (Magumma) I take a glance at your pop levels, and its been “Full” all around the clock.
It wasn’t so bad in the last round when you didn’t have so many prime-time players, and we could get an even-ish fight out of you , but now you’ve shoved both us and Dragonbrand right back to our spawns, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to push out with the sheer numbers you bring to slap us with no-matter what time of day it is.
I hope you’re prepared for a week long snore-fest, as I severely doubt you’ll get much in the way of a fight at this low level in the ranking tables with the sheer numbers you can pull 24/7.
I’ll be glad when this round end, and you bugger off up the rankings table to face people more suited to your 24/7 pop levels.
Although, I have the strange feeling that the HoD players who jumped here for the easy ride to the top will again abandon ship when the server reaches the top, and all pile on a low ranked server once more.
The spies don’t need to remain hidden, best thing a spy can do is to buy the Commanders Book, turn on their tag and keep dragging the zerg into stupid fights they cant win.
Please get back to us on this, it seems silly given that you can get a wider FoV if you have multiple monitors, or if you set the game to windowed mode, and shrink the window vertically a little.
I don’t entirely disagree, defences could do with a buff.
But, they should be available as more options in the upgrade panel, and cost supplies to acquire. Want your keep lord to act as if hes been pumping iron and taking steroids for the last 12 months? Gotta pay for it.
Do the top servers actually communicate in WvW?
I’m beginning to get tired of my own servers lack of direction, which usually just amounts to “now zerg this”, “come and defend this” and “what the hell are you doing, we need supply camps guys”.
80% of the people he kills in that video are upscaled in levels, dont have level 80 gear, trait options or skill point unlocks.
I think you’ll find most classes can stomp noobs.

You mean animation delay, and its intentional.
Ugh. It’s hard to play with my inventory full of stuff I want to sell.
Anyways is there a good reason for it being down for almost 24(?) hours besides “maintenance”?There’s at least 1 obvious exploit being heavily hammered right now (no I won’t say which it is because it’s really BAD to do on a forum).
Games like GW2 or EvE Online rely on their economy not being devastated by those exploits because they immediately turn into massive gems / PLEX damage and that damage directly maps on real money damage for the company.
This is why they bring the TP down at the first sign of something suspicious going on, they really lose money if they don’t.
You’re wrong, exploits don’t cost either of these companies any real money. For plexes , or in this case Gems, to enter the economy someone has to buy them in the first place, there aren’t some seeded there by the companies.
Once the gem has been bought into the economy by a player ANet already has the financial worth of it on their bank sheet. What happens with the gem from that point onwards, inside the game economy, be it traded speculatively for gold or removed from the economy via a gem store purchase is of no consequence.
Norn thievery works in a different way, people see you doing it, but your sheer size terrifies them into keeping their mouth shut.
Market Seller 1: “Dude, that giant Norn totally just sole a bag of apples off your cart!”
Market Seller 2: “I know”
Market Seller 1: “Aren’t you going to do anything?!”
Market Seller 2: “Look at the size of him! I’m not going to start a fight with him over a bag of apples, its not worth it!”
Market Seller 1: “You got a point there…”
Can you recoup the costs of the mats, sell this stuff after youre done? 3g is kind of a lot.
No, really you can look on cooking as a way to dump gold and convert it into EXP at the moment, there’s not really many ways of making coin from it, given that there’s so many people out there who already have cooking levelled to 400 and have flooded the market with (mostly undervalued) stuff.
farm your materials > Craft items > sell items
i have done the math on this and if you buy all the mats of the TP then craft the item then sell, your gonna be loosing coin than making it.
So what you’re saying is that you should really just farm the mats, and sell those, because doing so nets you more money than actually crafting the item?
If you can’t buy stuff on the TP and craft it, and sell it for a profit, you shouldn’t be crafting that recipe regardless of if you farmed the mats or not. Farmed mats aren’t “free”. They’re still worth their current market value, prior to you using them crafting something thats undervalued on the TP.
Anyway, to make money, go have a look on an item database website and filter it down for the karma purchased recipes for your current crafting skill, most of those still sell for profit.
