I’ll laugh if Rune of the Undead turns out well. Lowest rune to Highest… :P

lol well in all honesty it is a nice bunker type condi rune. With the updates it could very well become the condi meta rune. Depending on what else they change to it.

I think runes of strength/eagle/ogre/water/rage will all be in a good place base on what we know from the pvp live stream and the stats shown on eagle and strength already.

Scholar runes being the meta atm… they will more than likely be leveled out and all the other pure dmg runes(eagle/strength/ogre/etc) brought up to be on par with scholar and thus allowing more of a variety in rune choices instead of being forced to take scholar to have the best pure dmg output in pve.

Thats all just my best guess..

What im really interested in seeing is if they do something to level out and bring back the leather/wood market… guess well see…

Its not just the fact that they need to make the gem store items unlimited use(like the achievement skins that sit in a big pool you can take from). Its the fact that they need to make all of the items we have, once we equip them, account bound. Get rid of soulbound items and the game will become entirely alt friendly.

But then it boils down to the real issue… money. They have items in the gem shop to make the “gear exchange” between characters “pain free, for a small fee”. Theyd be losing out on sales from stones and splitters and multiple gear purchases. So yea, wont ever happen…

Same goes for the instant trait reset item… why is that even in the gem shop? Why cant we just retrait on the fly as long as were out of combat? Why do we have to go through the process of porting to said zone, find vendor, spend more silver, retrait, mess up, spend more silver, retrait, port back to zone that your group is waiting for you at…. its all about money.

Treborlavok and Lalangamena if you read my last couple of posts you would see that we came to an understanding, try not to be so mad. It doesn’t help the matter and will most likely get the thread closed.

Nah it’s all good. I’m not mad at all I’m just disappointed because this game could’ve been so much more. I was an avid eq/eq2 player for many years. So I love the trinity. But it was nice to have something come along with the hopes of a soft or no trinity. I just wish they would’ve done about it another way.. Maybe it was rushed maybe it es an oversight who knows. But the main thing is that the game is already too far along to change and not kitten off one majority if players or the other.

The game is still fun. But it will be replaced with bigger and better things. It’s the nature of the beast.

3 game modes and 2 are PvP based. Combat in GW2 is largely balanced around PvP. Of course there shouldn’t be trinity.

Anyway, PvE in any MMO is mindless, boring and scripted. You’re either wailing away at a meat tank or you’re being killed in 2 hits or both (when you’re soloing content, not including grinding, which can be done with a bot). Why are we even discussing PvE here?

Because pvp has never really relied on a trinity in any game and doesn’t have a place in the topic? You get lost on the way to the pvp forum?

You don’t PvP much do you killcannon? Other MMOs it’s basically team with healers wins… If your team has no healers, but the other does you may aswell just afk…

incorrect, the team who kills the others healers first wins.

That is the central aspect of strategy, generally, though not the only one. If it’s arena, it might just be killing the squishiest one or ignoring the squishiest one for that matter. Combat is rather rich under the trinity, unlike the stack and wail combat of GW2.

If you really think trinity is so “rich” and GW2 PvP is stack and wail. Why are you even playing this game? There’s countless MMOs with trinity… Why don’t you just play them instead of trying to turn GW2 into one of them?

Doesn’t suprise me, why is the WoW crowd trying to turn GW2 into WoW? Are you fed up with paying a sub? Just want WoW with new gfx? Truly believe every other MMO should be like WoW? I mean we don’t get players from CoD or BF in here asking for guns, ammo, medics and tanks in this game so why you?

Na, I believe MMO’s should have more depth than choosing the best DPS build out of a handful of DPS builds.

But you already have that in WoW? Why do you feel you need it here? The rest of us are happy with choosing a certain “DPS” build… Why do you feel people who don’t like trinity don’t deserve an alternative?

I wish people would stop with the “go play wow if you want that” crap. Here’s why people can rightfully want it here. Gw2 combat/game itself isn’t like wow. Wow is entirely tab targeting, etc. Its an entirely different game. A trinity isn’t the ONLY kitten difference between gw2 and WoW…

Also, this game was made to have different roles. Poor DESIGN is the only reason nothing else works but dps, not because you’re not supposed to play them.
- GW2 did have a trinity, it was labeled as DPS, Support and Utility. Support isn’t potent enough to be worth having when top dps builds can just splash 25 might and you can dps everything down in seconds (literally) and utility is too vague. So essentially we end up with only dps who have so e support and so a utility.
-GW2 has various stat types for this reason. Why else would toughness and healing power even exist? The worst part is these both tend to scale worse than offense stats. Again, just a poor design issue. For mobs to kill dps due to downed state, the game is riddled with 1 shot effects, which means doing 1/4 damage to survive barely longer and still get 1 shot by boss mechanics means you’re just wasting potential.

Gw2 had a trinity and a potential to be a very good team oriented game, instead they literally turned it into a hack and slash with a lot of pretend choices. (pve wise) PVP is a whollleeee other issue….

You hit the nail on the head. It’s not the fact that we want a trinity in gw2. It’s the fact that the game could’ve been so much more than the spam feast it is now but every other type of build becomes useless with the core mechanics of the game. Dps is and has been the only way to play this game and it will never change. All we can do now is sit patiently in LA or run mindlessly chasing scarlet until the best big mmo comes out that’s shinier and prettier. Till then all this thread is doing is acting like the game itself, a time waster/place holder for the next interesting topic to pop up that ppl can bicker over.

I love how people are defending the gw2 model by saying the marionette fight wouldn’t be possible with a trinity system… What?!?!

Honestly have you even ever played a game like wow or eq? If we had a trinity and sub trinity systems this fight could be so much more than it is now…. I played a game without a trinity for five years and the most I ever waited for a certain class would be the 30 seconds it takes someone to switch toons if you didnt have enough healers/tanks/ect. in the group to begin with. Pugging everything might mean you have to wait a few minutes but with a high population game that has a good lfg tool I doubt you would ever wait more than 5 minutes for anything.

Besides this game already has a trinity, its support/control/dps instead of healer/tank/dps. Except that dps is basically the only thing anyone ever needs to run in all of the end game content.

Trinity or not doesnt make a game fun or challenging, a well designed game does

Gw2 has no trinity what so ever. Every player is self sufficient all on their own. That is where the problem lies. We have no need for anyone’s help. We can all do it ourselves. The game doesn’t require tactics or team play. It’s all about dps and that’s because…. Ding ding ding, everyone is self sufficient.

The entire core mechanics of the game/player need to be reworked to make any truely challenging content possible.

Ignore the fanboys OP… The game is dying, its just a matter of time. The biggest hit will come when they attempt to make the further “balance changes”.

Theyve done nothing but drive the game into the ground and do a 180 of what the game was touted/projected to be.

Yes it was fun when it first came out…. but everything is fun for atleast 6-12 months until you see the true direction of the game.

Yes it was interesting and new… but things never changed and if they did it was always in the wrong direction.

This game is nothing but a placeholder for EQnext/CU/ESO or anything else that comes out with more draw/interest.

Hopefully they take what theyve learned here and realize their mistakes when they make gw3…

The problem isn’t the zerg train. The problem is the lack of incentive to do anything else.

If they made the rewards for doing other things greater, the zerg train would spread out. And that’s what should be done.

Exactly, but the way they want to keep the game going the way its going… farming still sucks compared to the TP and flipping even minor mats.

There should be equally rewarding content across the board in every aspect of the game OR they need to get rid of the ridiculously over priced TP, and bring back the value to in game gold.

Maybe they should do the opposite and reduce the amount of things that are rewarding and make the more rewarding things harder… but that wont happen.

The game is slowly falling deeper and deeper into the abyss and can’t make it’s way back out.

They’re trying to get rid of all currency aside from gold. Laurels aside, gold is and will be king which is bs especially since everything on game that has been beneficial to farm gets nerfed… Leaving just the tp try and flip and play. Which is also bs. If one aspect of the game is rewarding, every other aspect should be just as rewarding.

Honestly the game is dying. They’re trying to keep it afloat by turning pvp into something the achievement hunters can sink their teeth I to and give ppl another carrot to chase… Save yourself the time and headache and don’t stress about the glory. Either bid gw2 a due, or say kitten it and face the facts that they’re still constantly going against everything they said the game was going to be since launch.

On the up side Eqnext looks amazing and I’m gonna be there on day one!

→ Refund everyone their mats and gold/laurels that they sank into ascended items….

→ Remove laurels and other time gated crap… yes crap…

→ Remove ascended items…

→ Put everyone back at the GAME balance of exotics(never meant to be anything higher than exotics in the first place)…

→ Add an agony slot(s) to all exotic armors…

→ Remove defiance from bosses…

→ Remove condi caps from all bosses…

→ Fix your kittened AI…

→ Let us continue to play how we want and stop changing/adding crap to try to keep ppl around just for another grind

Open raid content doesn't work!

Raid content should always be instanced. Dont try to be new and creative with content that requires obvious amounts of teamwork when you have over 50% of the zone players not willing/able to get into a TS/vent service.

Create separate “dungeon” type zones and the ability to bring in 4+ groups in the usual raid fashion. That way we can make up our own groups and actually complete content with people willing to participate how they need to.

While open world bosses are nice and fun.. going about it this way is just plain dumb. While were on the subject, you need to tone down the amount of HP to the rest of the world bosses OR make it so we can crit/cc/remove condi cap. For trivial set world bosses on a timer like these(maw/golem/etc) it just becomes a bore to sit there and attack a mob for 10 mins for maybe 1-3 rares with some blues/greens…

Zerker gear was clearly a problem, you can complain that the content is severely messed up, and rightfully so, but zerker was clearly a problem.

I don’t know how anyone can defend the fact that zerker gained a 17% DPS boost from the Exotic-> Ascended upgrade while the next best set only gained a 5.2% increase in DPS. Defensive stats hit diminishing returns while offensive stats hit exponential growth, scaling was just downright broken, now they are fixing it.

Exo facto, The game was never intended to have ascended items!!!

Shocking I know. But it’s the truth. Yet they implemented them and their grind and have continually attempted to fix content for balance and continually screw ppl over and out of our time out into getting said items. Who’s problem/fault is it?.. Theirs but yet again they make it ours.

I honestly don’t know if your numbers are true. But if they are that’s hilarious! And back when ppl were kittening about ascended armor saying now they have to get ascended gear because you’ll be outmatched… Yep!

Fix the game not the tools. They hastily put in ascended armor without crunching numbers and doing math. So why should the people who spend countless hours upon hours attaining gold and mats be punished for crafting something Anet implemented?

While i whole heartedly agree that the main issue is not yet fixed with the CritDamage/Ferocity change (neither does Anet think that actually), and while i would be glad to have better mob AI in PvE, players crying on about demanding a stat swap option due to this change are just ridiculous.

Magic find was obliterated from a character-bound system to account-bound system. Magic find as a stat disappeared entirely, so stat swap was the most sensible thing. Crit damage is about to transform into Ferocity. Still character-bound. The stat is not disappearing. Its changing. There will be no better Direct Damage gear in the game than what you have already. Your spent effort and imaginery money remains the same value.

Cry when you have to upgrade your computer to keep on playing the game. Even then you cannot demand anything, becasue its all in the user agreement. They can change whatever they think is best.

Celestial gear is no longer viable/worth it in regards to crit dmg. It now becomes an entirely in the middle gear set that used to be viable with the crit dmg % it had on it. Since it will now get a ferocity stat instead, on line with the other celestial stats, it’s effective which in crit dmg was on par with zerk/cavalier etc is now nearly 40-50% less effective. Someone had the exact math on it in the other thread before it was merged… That’s a huge loss for people who spent their time and yea imaginary monies(which also equals time) to have built these sets now to have them become garbage.

These are the people demanding a stat change and it’s rightfully so.

The entire game is built around dps. That’s it, not entirely but that’s pretty much it. We have no need for support/cc/ healing/tanking outside of our own traits and utilities/skills. Which actually isn’t a bad thing. But when you couple that with the fact that we don’t even have to go down a crit dmg line to achieve high dps. We just pick our best stats and then load up on zerker gear or a mix. That is where the problem lies.

My opinion/thoughts as to how they could’ve/maybe still can keep gw2 around even when the next big game(s) come out.

-> Get rid of stats on gear! Yep, we shouldn’t be able to trait one way and gear up to compensate. What they should’ve done is put modifiers on the gear instead. Examples include +2% attack, -2% armor, +2% 1hand attack speed. Etc etc. Thus removing the BiS bullkitten and making us rely more on our actual build.
-> Remove runes/sigils See above point. Too many build rely solely on a specific rune set to work. It should be about our build not our gear.
-> Seperate our trait lines and their respective stat modifiers. Meaning if you go 30 into Air as an ele you won’t get the +Precision +crit dmg. You would just be spending a Seperate pool of trait points to make a viable build.
-> Upon separating trait lines and their stat modifiers we now have stat points to spend. Letting us now allocate our stats into the respective lines that we see fit for our build.Much like how our stats currently work

  • Power = attack
  • Precision = crit chance
  • Ferocity= crit dmg
  • Vitality = hit points
  • Toughness = defense/armor
  • Generosity= healing power
  • Corruption = condition dmg
  • Tranquility = condition defense

Having now split our trait lines from stats, removing stats from armor and adding different multipliers, removing sigils/runes/orbs/crests in their stat buffing form(could possibly keep a form of sigil/rune with certain extra modifiers), we now have a game that relies on players having to use their builds properly and also hopefully using their builds together to take down content/others.

Now granted, the core AI/combat needs to be overhauled entirely. Remove defiance, remove stomping(in pve), remove one hit kills, make the AI smarter, remove ability to stack inside eachother, create an aggro based system or AI targeting to know who things are targeting. I could go on forever with this part but I’ll stop.

Other main problem(s), is that the game is
-> Built around exotics being top tier stats. Since ascended items have been introduced the power creep has become too much for the exotic maxed game to compensate for thus resulting in content dying faster and being less challenging.
-> Built entirely around stats, mainly dps. Not having the need for support outside of your own character while in essence is nice, creates no diversity in builds or need for anything else. This also ties into the first point here.
-> The content requires no group synergy. Again this ties into the other two points. No one has to worry about being healed or taking aggro or trying to cc adds etc etc. It’s all turn and burn, without the need to turn. Lol

I think I’ll stop there for now. I love gw2 and I honestly think they had good intentions on release. They were the first ppl to really step outside the box and go for a soft trinity. So I’ll give them credit on that. But if they can fix what they’ve screwed up on… Maybe they’ll still be around this time next year. If they can’t then well I’ll see you all in ESO/CU/EQNEXT or something of the likes!

Frankly, I don’t think this is a bad change. It’s rather obvious that the synergy between those three stats is too strong (the growth curve is more hyperbolic with less diminishing returns), which made Zerker objectively superior with regard to ‘bang for buck’. Plus, ‘Ferocity’ just sounds better than ‘Crit Damage’. I wish they’d do that with all the secondary stats.

Encounter design definitely shares part of the blame, but Zerker still needed to be toned down. I hope they continue working on polishing encounters and improving the ‘soft’ role system.

Zerker gear isn’t the problem. The problem is the game and it’s mechanics. Aswell as their flawed attempts at “fixing” encounters thus far… Defiant/10x the HP with extremely drawn out stand in place combat(wurm,golem,maw,etc)/condition caps not player based but encounter based and even if they were player based still make conditions in pve worthless… To name a few…

Also along those lines the way every dungeon is set up there’s no reason to run anything aside from DD(direct dmg) DPS builds.

-> We have no need for support outside of our own utilities.
-> We have no group synergy outside of measely combo fields.
-> We have no need for defensive gear for any encounter since we have built in defenses with our heals/utilities/dodges.
-> We have no encounters that require actual tactics outside of just dodging “X” attack. Stand in place AI falls into this too.

We could go on and on about this. But the problem will always exist in gw2. Remove zerker gear… Knights or pvt becomes the next hot topic, then that gets nerfed because constant qq because they’ve yet to address the actual problem, their game/core mechanics. It’s an on going cycle that will not be fixed. Especially if they keep going about using “duct tape” to fix a broken weld.

Plus everyone who doesn’t understand what every zerker/celestial user is so upset about… It’s wvw. Pve and wvw are 2 completely different beasts yet they feel the need to keep them on the same “balance” updates. The loss of dmg for burst/DD power builds vs other players is huge and makes everyone who spent all their time and gold crafting their gear now worthless.

The problem is both Zerker gear and encounter design, as I said. Zerker is still very likely to be dominant in meta; this only serves to close the gap some.

Zerker gear isn’t the problem. It’s the core mechanics of the game and it’s encounters.
Why do you think in wvw against an actual player it’s not who’s wearing zerker gear but who plays better, for the most part.

It’s the pve side they’re trying to balance and in balancing the pve side they’re going to destroy the wvw side.

They need to leave zerker/celestial/cavalier and any other +CD gear alone. What they need to fix is their broken PVE AI. And not by adding more hit points or adding gimmicks like Defiance/having to stomp AI.

You want to fix encounters then make the AI smarter. Give us a reason to run something other than zerker gear. Make other gear sets actually viable/needed in group make ups. Again, don’t fix it with tape, fix the broken weld.

The trinity was supposed to have been replaced by multiple varieties of builds, what we got is mass zerg therefore I can only conclude that the trinity was not only far superior but also gave me much more memorable and satisfying encounters.

I can remember amazing encounters in dungeons and raids from trinity games going back 10 years including GW1, but alas GW2 will be completely forgettable as it just does not provoke that sense of fear, danger and achievement.

That’s less a problem relating to the trinity and more a problem of the Guild Wars 2 team being a bit less than great when it comes to balancing offense vs defense. I don’t think they’d do much better with a trinity, except then you’d be pigeonholed into a role and have to reroll to switch.

C’mon people! Youre never “pigeonholed” into a role you don’t want to play!! YOU pick your class! Trinity or not YOU pick what you play!

Have you people who obviously hate the trinity ever played Eq or eq2?

They were the first to do it with EQ and it was brilliant. They carried it over into eq2 as well and I’m hoping they do it justice with their softer version of it in Eqnext. But besides that, to the thread…

The trinity is in place for a majority of reasons. It brings group synergy, it allows for tactics to be used in fights throughout the world, it gives each class a specific duty to accomplish(more synergy), synergy synergy synergy. Get where this is going?

When all you have is dps, fights become a race to finish and stale and boring and tactless. Much like we’ve seen over the past year with gw2 and are seeing even more now as people are making ascended gear and doing more dmg than the game was intended to accept.(the game has been built around exotics being max gear, ascended items are a part of the reason why things are so effected).

Everyone says “o holy trinity, LFhealer LFhealer!!” How is gw2 any different? “LFwar/zerk only ping gear!!” Atleast with the dreaded trinity you didnt always need a healer because we actually had support/control roles that could be used in place of a healer if one couldn’t be found. Now all we get is dps because that’s all we need. We are our own support/control and don’t even need a group to take down some of the hardest content in game…

They had an idea of a soft trinity which is good. But they failed miserably at the implementation.

Frankly, I don’t think this is a bad change. It’s rather obvious that the synergy between those three stats is too strong (the growth curve is more hyperbolic with less diminishing returns), which made Zerker objectively superior with regard to ‘bang for buck’. Plus, ‘Ferocity’ just sounds better than ‘Crit Damage’. I wish they’d do that with all the secondary stats.

Encounter design definitely shares part of the blame, but Zerker still needed to be toned down. I hope they continue working on polishing encounters and improving the ‘soft’ role system.

Zerker gear isn’t the problem. The problem is the game and it’s mechanics. Aswell as their flawed attempts at “fixing” encounters thus far… Defiant/10x the HP with extremely drawn out stand in place combat(wurm,golem,maw,etc)/condition caps not player based but encounter based and even if they were player based still make conditions in pve worthless… To name a few…

Also along those lines the way every dungeon is set up there’s no reason to run anything aside from DD(direct dmg) DPS builds.

-> We have no need for support outside of our own utilities.
-> We have no group synergy outside of measely combo fields.
-> We have no need for defensive gear for any encounter since we have built in defenses with our heals/utilities/dodges.
-> We have no encounters that require actual tactics outside of just dodging “X” attack. Stand in place AI falls into this too.

We could go on and on about this. But the problem will always exist in gw2. Remove zerker gear… Knights or pvt becomes the next hot topic, then that gets nerfed because constant qq because they’ve yet to address the actual problem, their game/core mechanics. It’s an on going cycle that will not be fixed. Especially if they keep going about using “duct tape” to fix a broken weld.

Plus everyone who doesn’t understand what every zerker/celestial user is so upset about… It’s wvw. Pve and wvw are 2 completely different beasts yet they feel the need to keep them on the same “balance” updates. The loss of dmg for burst/DD power builds vs other players is huge and makes everyone who spent all their time and gold crafting their gear now worthless.

Yes please let us change this. I don’t understand the changes. More people played bunker already!. At least let us choose a new stat.. The rest of you might make it work. but a 10% loss? My build can’t handle that. Everyone get ready for every class running full bunker. and long long long fights.

Not sure if this has been brought up… Aside from ppl now be required to run zerk to be effective in a group, the opposite of what they’re trying to do. The time we spent to craft our armor, exotic and ascended celestial, now we are at a huge disadvantage in losing dps… Can we celestial users get a stat change? I spent an entire month, crafting and building mats for my exotic celestial armor and now it’s garbage for Everything.

Condition builds are the new meta and will remain supreme in wvw unless something is done about DD burst dmg loss from this huge nerf.

You want to implement this “small step” which is way bigger than you’re implying, then let every zerk/celestial user change the stats on our crafted armor/weapons. Is even go as far to say as we should get to change our ascended trinket stats too because those are just as big of a time sync in laurels!

I think eles are viable in sPvP but almost non-playable in Arena. Maybe it’s the 8v8 setting of hotjoins making ele suitable since the class’s staff skills are buffed to the degree that can trash zergs pretty well

I use Ranger runes which are currently bugged and give 5% more damage always along with more precision and crit dmg.

For traits I use 30/30/10/0/0 while using Barbarian or 0/30/10/0/30 if using zerker.

I simply posted the pictures to show that it can be done, I’m not saying the spec I was running is the most viable in PvP but I feel fairly comfortable with 20k hp and the large amount of dmg I can put out.

Understand also that you don’t need to hit 13k’s to kill enemies in sPvP, you can safely go for a more defensive set-up with Barbarian amulet while still retaining big damage. and a decent healthpool.

honestly its people like you that actually think the class is ok, that causes the most dmg to the class. Ele’s are absolute garbage in pvp right now, point blank end of story.

None at pax, the update did nothing to help them, mobility still garbage, no build diversity and a horrible bunker spec with the longest utility cd’s in the game. /thread

Well I just realised this was serious , the post on the dungeon forum… I tought it was another newbie crying for nerfs but then I saw the red text from anet…..

1) Guild wars 2 is different from other games which is great and a bit boring in some cases. This heavy burst meta feels good to destroy stuff and landing 50k hundred blades . But the problem I really have is the lack useful stuff in PVE . Only 2 things are used pulls\reflects. This is what I would fix instead of forcing us to tank the mobs..

2) Useless pve classes . I think alot of people want to nerf zerker because their class will never be accepted in a speed run. I can understand that, why
just not buffing them? So they can enjoy the game like every1 else.

3) “I play how I want” . This is probably the biggest problem in dungeons right now. Full cleric staff guardians playin how they want. Why cant you just downscale the boss HP when the overal party DPS is lower than “x” number? This would allow people to play how they want and be at the same level with zerker groups.

4) gw2 and it’s acended gear. If you want to nerf zerker , allow us the option to regear properly for the current dungeons. Ive spent tons of money on getting all the good stuff , norn t3, scholar runes etc . I dont wanna make another set all over again.

5) What you should do : its increase the teamwork for the actual dungeons. Right now , you can complete any dungeon without using the party chat.
Just make it more challenging and more fun .

6) punching bags= NOT DIFFICULT CONTENT . please stop . Why mobs have 3 billion hp ? Give them multiple phases like giganticus lupicus and reduce this ridiculous hp bag.

7) Give me a name change …. My warrior’s name is Zerk Powaaa, it will make no sense after your nerfs…

Thiss is what they/we wanted.

There is no holy trinity and no actually difficult content(liadri/sabtrib aside). This game is all about dpsing down the mobs as fast as possible to achieve the end result. The end result being gold, which this game revolves around too much.

There is no true end game quest/journey worth anything. Literally, almost, everything can be bought from the TP with gold/gems.

There being no trinity, which ppl rave(d) about, means there is no true teamwork involved in getting through the game. Thats it, thats why. No splitting pulls, no turning mobs, no dropping aggro/taking aggro, no dedicated healing/CC, etc… its all just beat this down and beat that down faster faster faster. Its never going to change because there is no need for further teamwork.

As much as people hate on the holy trinity, which it is nice to get away from, It really is crucial for a game to have true end game and cooperation among players. Talk about zergs/blobs and teamwork all you want but even with that it still revolves around dps.

i love when ppl who play just bad come on the forum make a topiv and QQ about smt , MM is good 1v1 and its easy to beat if u know how but yes it takes some skill and ofc for some ppl its too much

it honestly takes no skill to play. Its one of the many newbie builds that are still in tact to let new players get into pvp and actually do something.

Anything AI where the player literally doesnt have to do anything is only viable in pvp and for obvious reasons.

I can beat most MM’s but the amount of dmg/hp/toughness minions inflict/have is ridiculous. The best way to fix the MM/SR qq is to let players rally off of the minions/spirits. End of QQ because if youre going to basically bring a 6v1 then we should get to rally off them.

Also remove the aoe cap.

I honestly just miss the days of power builds//watching and interrupting skills. When you’re up against 1-3MMs/1-2 Spirit rangers spamming a point and you can’t see the player or the cast animations it just sucks. Anet shouldn’t be coddling unskilled players in PvP. There’s PvE for that. PvP should be about skill and only skill. That’s where the fun of PvP comes from: out kiting, thinking, maneuvering the opponent and not just standing there: target, drop marks, lolpettingzooawayyyy!

Anyways, it’s nice to see I’m not the only one who’s frustrated by this. Didn’t think anyone would reply, thanks guys.

I think there are some interesting points here. While I would say GW2 has a fantastic free market style economy, that’s incredibly efficient blah blah blah… It is valid to say, while the economy may be efficient, is a free market economy the best choice for an MMO? There isn’t anyone in the world qualified to give a definitive answer to the question. What I can say is that the free market design that GW2 uses is MUCH more effective than a barter system in keeping players engaged and happy as an aggregate. No system will ever please everyone, but this system works very well from my point of view as a designer and economist and as a person who wants to play a great game, and the statistics that I have access to agree with that.

Please note I don’t mean to imply that other systems aren’t or can’t be effective, I only mean to say that I think the system we have is very well executed and is itself effective.

I feel like the OP was leaning more towards the fact that in order to actually earn enough gold in the game to do anything, you simply must “play” the market.

Every single pve type of “farming” that is introduced/discovered has been gutted and stripped down to hand out the bare bones of rewards. This all leads back to the original statement of the game and “play how you want.” Why should one aspect of the game heavily out reward another aspect of the game? If someone loves playing the market then they can have fun doing so. Or people want to farm to get gold and enjoy it… Well that’s a different story. The time it takes for a single person to farm, say 500g, is atleast 4-5 times longer than it takes someone who’s playing the tp. Why shouldn’t all aspects of the game be as rewarding as the others?

The same goes for the hardcore wvw/pvp players. Granted pvp has never needed gold because they attain(ed) items with glory. But what happens now when glory is taken away and the only way to get items/gear is gold… You implement the ability to buy gifts with glory that sell for a decent profit and give the pvp community the gold they need. As well as reward them with gold on a match win/loss.

It’s obvious the game is pushing for a one world currency, which isn’t a bad thing. But the thing that’s the problem is the ability to make gold in game equally across all aspects.

Let farmers farm.

Let economists crunch.

Let pvp/wvw(the most severely good starved atm) beat each other senseless.

But let them all be as rewarding as the next.

Just my 2 cents. I’m an avid pveer/pvper and I dabble I’m the tp when I can afford it.

Players should be able to rally off certain AI’s like the ranger’s normal pet and Necro’s flesh golem and or shade.

Honestly this I think is the best and logical choice.

Let downed players rally off of the spirits/minions. Clones/phantasms have almost zero hp anyway and are easy to kill so no on them. Let us rally from pets/minions/spirits and give these blatantly OP pvp classes something to think about instead of mindlessly running around while their AI works for them.

so how about looking yourself at your traits, utilities and skills, look what you definitifly need and build around it. Because we dont know whats your goal with the build, we don’t know your preferences, your playstyle etc.

Its faster & easier than you think instead of waiting that someone serves you a build on a silver platter.

Agree, and it’s not to sounds like a kitten in the slightest. It’s just the way engi works honestly. We have the option to run “x” build and actually tweak it accordingly to ourself and our play style. So what may work for me, could be unplayable by you. And visa versa.

-> Go to a build website and sit there and take time to work out what type of stats you want to achieve.

-> pick your favorite utilities or utilities you wish to try to build around.

-> Then once you have a goal in mind start with your traits. Forget about the pres(2 stats each line effects) and go through each trees traits one by one and find the ones you like.

-> Then once you have the trait lines filled go to your gear and pick and choose each piece(s) to your goal stats.

-> Lastly, go to pvp and try said build out. :-) tweak as needed

bleh, never go full glass cannon… i hate glass cannon builds with a passion and you are only a free bag or free spike/points… honestly even in pve theyre hardly viable over a hybrid build… but to each their own. play with the class, watch some videos on others playing the type of builds you like and then get into pvp, yes pvp, and try out the builds. instead of spending 100’sof gold tryin to get the perfect gear and etc for your build after youve changed it 10 times.

On your build, its the best utilities to go with to excel with a SD build depending on your spec and honestly your playstyle. Others may run those utilities but some swear by mines, nades, elixir s… etc… play with it and try every utility out.

Make sure you have atleast
→ 1 stun break minimum
→ 30-40% crit chance(fury from med kit or hidden flask)
→ 50% crit dmg minimum
→ 3500 attack minimum
→ ~1600+ toughness(will be far less in pvp, around 1200)
→17.5-19k+ hp

With your build youre honestly going to be able to quick kill other glass cannons/unexpecting ppl. Against any competent player youre down because youre absolute paper wtih only 916 toughness and just over 16.5k hp. On top of having nothing for defense aside from gear block… thats it. Know your fields and use them well. You also simply do not need speedy kits/invigorating speed combo at all. its a wasted traits. change invigorating speed for protection injection for near perma protection. Take adrenal implant/power wrench/SD in tools… and if youre going to run a full GC build with 30 in firearms(you dont need any in firearms to perform just as well) but take sitting duck/10%dmg/Modified ammo to fully maximize your dps output and pair it with either a sigil of battle on your rifle or sigil of force to get extra punch.

Also if youre broke, avoid runes of the scholar and go straight for beryl orbs for power/vit/crit dmg. Or dolyak runes for tough/vit/regen(what i use in pvp). OR if you want more precision run runes of the eagle which also give you extra 5% punch to your target below 50% hp.

Honestly the best thing about engis is the sheer varieties of every type of build we have we can make and make work well. It just depends on your play style. :P Those are my pointers. Take them or leave them but enjoy the class and find what suits you best and happy hunting.

What is the best build for TPvP staff ele?

There isn’t one. But it you’re running ele in tpvp/spvp then you should be the standard bunker support for fields and “control”. You’re still putting your team at a high handicap because every other class can do everything better and easier than an ele. I’m not flaming or trolling, I main an ele/engi/guard… The truth is that in pvp ele has no place at all. You’ll kill bad players easily but anyone can kill them hot join nubs.

if you’re dead set on playing your ele in pvp then go with an aura share d/d build and learn the proper rotations and run with a buddy or team. You will be focused down first and you will die. But if you’re having fun then that’s all that matters. But just don’t frustrate yourself by trying to make staff work in pvp.

There’s so many options honestly.

Start with static discharge then build from there… Always use rifle for a SD direct dmg build… Stay around 1600 toughness and try to get around 18k health and around if not over 3500 attack… Around 30-35+% crit chance(fury from med kit or hidden flask)…. 60+% crit dmg for the best results…. Sharpening stones and the foods up to you. Try out some builds in pvp before in eating gold into something that in the end doesn’t work. Don’t nerf what’s strong and call it ‘encouraging diversity.’ Buff what isn’t to match it.

In other words: Don’t make everything equally bad, as the original post seems to feel, make everything equally good.

Exactly… Take pointers from how hard the hit eles… Don’t do it again. Plus nades are no where near OP in any form so l2p and try different builds.

I don’t want to come off sounding like a kitten… But that was entirely TL;DR after the first 3 lines.

Not everyone uses grenades and even if everyone did it wouldn’t mean they were OP. They’re just one of our most versatile kits and not locked into a certain fighting range for max dmg.

Also I personally laugh at grenades fear me and my SD!!!

Don’t bother with using only the left click to look behind you…. You need to also go into your options menu and bind the “look back” to an easily reachable jey(I use “x”) then while pressing look back/forward run/left click to pan if you need to turn the camera without changing the direction you’re running. Then lead and spam away.

Tid bit of advice on SD builds and wvw in general, never go full glass. Being able to be in wvw and getting the full effect(stats) of armor/weps/food/oil you can greatly increase your survivability or severely hamper it if you do or so not spec full glass. Full glass and you’ll never be able to take more than 1v1. Hybrid and you can take 2v1 or more depending on your targets builds/prof/skill level…

Also you actually don’t need to go into firearms to have an extremely powerful/sustainable SD build. Keep in mind that we have minimal stun breaks/stability/condi cure so we have to spec Into defense to not be an easy bag. It all comes down to personal preference in the end but just wanted to add some food for thought.

For PvE, probably not. For WvW, yes, exactly because you can’t expect balance. Stabilized Armor (10 in Inventions) is one of the best mitigation traits against the hammer meta.

Yea without a doubt. That and 10 alchemy for near perma protection in protection injection. But I’ve come to think that should be a base of all our builds :-P for pvp/wvw anyway.
