I agree on filling out a support ticket. That is your best chance, though still a longshot. Ask also if it might be possible to merge your accounts, I’ve heard of such things being possible. Be prepared to prove that you own both accounts.

Also, be prepared for the answer to be “no”. Some things simply can’t be done within the framework of the game without breaking or ruining something.

Sadly, no-one can answer this but ANet Tech Support.

Corgi Mount Vote?

Trise.2865

Corgi is cute and wonderful, but only makes sense as an Asura mount. Can you imagine an enormous Charr riding a tiny corgi? I would suggest a racial “beast” skin for the Raptor or Jackal. It can use the same framework/rigging, but different skins per race. For example: Asura ride corgis, but a Norn using the same skin would ride a big wolf, and a Charr could ride a vaguely dog-shaped mechanical scooter.

Can we name the mounts? PLEEASE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trise.2865

Trise.2865

Thinking about it, there might be a way to use a Title as a mount name tag. It would replace your equipped Title with “Riding [mount name]” while mounted, and display as “[mount type] Rider” without a name added.

The problem is, each title check adds precious ms to ping. Ranger pets can only be swapped every 20 sec at most, so that difference is negligible, but players will be switching mounts rapidly as the situation changes.

So why does it seem that Kormir still looks whitewashed? Can that please be fixed?

Because the statue is white marble, literally whitewashing her image. Also the bright light hides its subtler textures.

That can’t really be “fixed” without making it more obviously “africanized”, which is racist stereotyping.

I think the statue looks kind of like Aaliyah in Queen of the kitten ed, and that’s ok.

No Flying Mounts?

Forget flying mounts, what about swimming mounts? It replicates the feeling of flying, without ruining the game, since underwater areas are already designed for freedom of movement in 3 dimensions.

On a related note: a jumping/gliding mount like the demonstrated Griffon is redundant. We have the glider and a high-jump mount (Bounder), there’s no need to have a separate mount combining them. A Griffon glider skin would be pretty sweet, though.

The trait has two very important conditions. First, the prerequisite, you must be in Beast Mode for it to trigger. Second, the cooldown, this trait will not trigger more than once every minute. I suspect one of those two conditions were not met at the time.

Though, it is possible the cooldown timer isn’t set correctly. This error has happened before. If you suspect that to be the case, and can confirm the conditions were met, I suggest you fill out a support ticket.

1. Drag any stack out of your inventory to destroy it.

2. Crafting accesses your bank automatically, and materials can be sold to the marketplace directly from the bank with right-click. You can pull item stacks out of the material storage by click and drag, or shift-click.

3. I have no idea what you’re talking about. The closest comparison is the personal-story reward upgrades, which cannot be banked in the first place. Merch it or destroy it, it makes little difference.

4. Unless you’re jumping off of cliffs, there is no situation where moving from out of combat to in-combat will get you killed instantly. Activate your stun-break and/or speed boost and continue running away, the enemy will give up and reset.

Can we have Bards next expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trise.2865

Here’s two ideas in stream-of-consciousness development:

Engineer: Sonalyst. The Engineer develops technology to reproduce and weaponize sound harmonics, adding Shouts and the Warhorn to their repertoire and becoming the Sonalyst. The class will focus on battlefield control with powerful blasts of compressed sound (such as Thunderclap), and melodies that bewitch the mind and trick the senses (access to Taunt, Fear, and Confuse effects).

The Toolbar is augmented with the Mix/Remix ability which adds additional effects to attacks, such as Reverberate (the next non-1 attack or Shout you use hits twice), Slowdown (add duration/DoT to next attack or Shout), or Reverse (add friendly Ally effects to the next attack or Shout). They could also implement a Resonance mechanic, wherein using skills in conjunction with Shouts can add the effects together for each. For example: using the Thunderclap shout while using Throw Shield may add a knockdown effect to the target area and to each hit, or while using an Overload Shot to increase the AoE and damage of both.

Thief: One-Man-Band. The Thief develops precision skill in every instrument and adapts their Steal trickery to literally steal the show. Mastering the Focus as their muse, the Thief gains several new Kit skills, representing different types of instrument and their symphonic uses, including the x/Focus Dual skill. Wielding a Sword yields the Violin kit, focusing on hindering and debuffing opponents. The Dagger unlocks a Flute, which bolsters and supports allies. The Pistol unlocks the Big Brass, focusing on impact skills, and pushing enemies around and making their ears Bleed. (Possible limitation: each Instrument kit costs nothing to equip, but has a single Ammo charge, meaning it ends after one skill use.)

The One-Man-Band replaces Initiative with Tempo, a similar mechanic cross-bred with the Revenant’s Energy mechanic. Each attack consumes Tempo, and the more Tempo you have, the quicker your skills cool down. Steal becomes Tempo Shift, which functions like a complementary set of Stances. Staccato time greatly increases the speed at which you recover Tempo, but reduces the damage and effects on your attacks. Inversely, Largo time slows down your Tempo recovery, but significantly boosts an attack’s output, possibly adding new effects. (Possible third stance: neutral Allegro)

Feel free to use these ideas, or change them as you see fit.

Someone kill the "Commander"!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trise.2865

So remind me here, am i a commander of Tyria’s greatest military force or Kiel’s errand boy?

On second thought, don’t answer that. It’s too depressing to know…

Well, no, you’re not a commander of Tyria’s greatest military force. At least not any more. That would be Logan.

The fact that we’re still the ‘Commander’ is addressed in Out of the Shadows by Almorra. This is clearly simply a convenient title by which all NPCs can address us regardless of race or gender. I enjoy that at least there is a little variation in PoF with the Cavaliers addressing us as ‘Outlander’.

False. Logan replaced Trahearne as Marshal. “You” never were the leader of the Pact, you are one of its Commanders.

That being said, and in regards to the OP, while it isn’t possible to have the NPCs address each player character by name, it may be possible to have a limited, selectable set of titles. These could, in theory, be related to your Character Creation (e.g. Noble Humans can be called “Baron”, Ash Legion Charr could be called “Skulker”) or to your Personal Story (callbacks to “Slayer”, “Valiant”, etc.), among other things. This would reduce the extra VO work to single words or specific lines rather than the entire script – which brings its own challenges – and should minimize work coding variations.

GW2 Amnoon is nothing like GW Amnoon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trise.2865

There was a great deal of ancient architecture buried under the sands of Amnoon long before Guild Wars 1; centuries in fact.

After the river was diverted, most Vabbians migrated from uninhabitable Vabbi to the now-lush northern area of the Crystal Desert, Amnoon. They took their irrigation, quarrying, and construction techniques, as well as their design philosophy, with them… but not their Istani granite. They were forced to use the available local mineral, sandstone, which is far less durable. On top of that, there are harsh winds and sandstorms in this area, far more than anywhere in Elona. Any construction would look “weathered” after a few months of constant abuse, let alone hundreds of years. The fact that anything is still standing at all is a testament to their engineering prowess.

Now, imagine if the green garbage nobody cares about stacked in your inventory so you can carry more of it, and salvaging it didn’t fill your inventory with useless/worthless sigils. “Would that be worth somethin’ to ya, laddie?”

At the end of Path of Fire, the unicorns will rise up against their machine overlords, much to the surprise of everyone, especially Tulane and the Commander, and defeat the mighty hidden dragon Changus, who was inside Balthazaar the whole time, controlling the crouching tiger and its birdman minions. Then you press F to drop your weapons and remember Blorgg Alamo because war never changes. But then you have to quickly get to the chopper, waiting to take you from Neverland, before the Timelords initiate Ragnarok.

Then Kormir appears out of nowhere and gives you a speech about how awesome you were for winning the game and how a powerful mortal would become the new God of War…. which she then becomes.

Balthazar Rip-Off

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trise.2865

Trise.2865

How true is it that they are both “annoyed they aren’t the strongest of their kind”? As far as I know they both want to be stronger but that doesn’t mean they are jealous or weaker than the other gods/elementals.

Not at all, actually. Balthazar is one of if not the most powerful of the Human gods. He has unmatched strength, prowess, and cunning, bowing only to Dwayna’s authority as his queen and occasionally Lyssa’s trickery and wit. In terms of worshiper numbers, he is third (behind Dwayna and Lyssa), but his are by far the most devoted, as a proper military would be. He is the only god besides Abbadon (that we know of) who created their own demi-plane in the Mists, and the only one to have made two of them (the Fissure of Woe and the Hall of Heroes).

I suspect, however, that there are more complex themes at play here. You see, Balthazar has a twin brother, Menzies (pronounced “Mingkus” or “MenLeez”), who hates Balthazar and everything he stands for, yet has always stood in his brother’s shadow… literally. (For cultural reference: Menzies is to Balthazar like Loki is to Thor, or Scar to Mufasa, or Prince John to King Richard, etc., etc..) Menzies even attempted to invade the Fissure of Woe from the Mists, and succeeded in capturing key points, such as Balthazar’s Eternal Forge. With Balthazar’s aid, some powerful mortal heroes were permitted to join the battle and liberated the zone. Supposedly, Balthazar decapitated Menzies at one point, but his minions continued coordinated attacks on both the Fissure and the Underworld, so… odds are he’s not permanently dead. It stands to reason that Menzies might make a move on the mortal realm, especially now that a great weakness has been exposed, and pose as Balthazar, his twin, to create a schism between him and the Humans. (Wouldn’t want a Deus Ex Wargod to show up and ruin his plans, would he?)

But why though? The only argument in this thread in favor of spider mounts is “they look cool”.

Looking cool is all well and good, but what do they add to the game? What does a spider do that a Bounder or Skimmer can’t? How does riding a spider add to the “joy of movement”? What obstacle does a spider help the player overcome that can’t already be overcome by any other skill or mount (including the Glider)?

Now, I wouldn’t be against arachnid skins (ideally for the Raptor or Bounder), but then consider this: does that not fundamentally change your relationship with the creatures? These, who are supposed to be your friends and allies as much as Braham or Taimi or Rytlock, are suddenly replaced by another creature with similar abilities? How can you have a relationship with this creature and grow together in the story if you’re just going to replace him five seconds later with the animal you actually wanted to ride? That’s like reading Black Beauty and saying “this sucks, I’d rather ride a triceratops!” or Old Yeller and saying “dogs suck, it should have been a slime monster!”. Of course, some people can’t or won’t understand… /shrug

All we are missing.

Let me preface by saying I am still dead-set against the idea of mounts in GW2. Faster-travel methods like that encourage large, but mostly-empty map design, like "EA The Game™ ", which does not suit Guild Wars 2’s content-depth philosophy at all.

However, if I understand it correctly, what they’re introducing are not mounts, strictly-speaking. They are worldwide-usable versions of the Zephyrite skills: dash, leap, and pull, with a fourth pseudo-glide added for water traversal/jumping. The fact that they’re tied to adorable-looking animals and riding animations is irrelevant; these are mostly harmless traversal abilities, no different than the gliders or existing Leap/Teleport skills… except for the manta thing, which is significantly more mount-like, mechanically, and can be used to bypass large chunks of current maps (mostly in Orr).

I like these in theory. I think they’re a nice idea if they work the way they should, and can add interesting movement options to the game, so… I’ll allow it. For now…

Release Shield Offensive!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Imagine a thrown shield (Captain America?) bouncing among three close targets. Or like the mesmer thrown greatsword skills (the animation for GS4). I could see an offensive shield either off hand or main hand.

Imagine if you will, a shield weapon built like a yo-yo. Get it spinning and fling it out to a spot, where it will continue to spin and damage enemies (a sustained Whirl finisher? able to move or follow?). Flick it quickly to bounce it between nearby foes in slightly-longer-than-melee range (similar to the Rev’s Mace chain). Whip it to grapple an enemy and pull it toward you, then reverse and charge into them for a sort-of air juggle. Such a weapon could be ideal for battlefield control with sustained area-of-effect damage.

PS: I highly recommend anyone seeking inspiration for (non-magical) offensive Shield-weapons and moves to look up the Rygar games.

Do you have a source for Grenth being the one who stayed behind? Otherwise it’s best to note that it’s speculation…

Of course. From the Personal Story:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cathedral_of_Silence_

We see here that Grenth is very much nearby and active against the dragons, or at least against Zhaitan. There is no evidence anywhere else of a god’s presence until now. Knowing that the gods left Tyria centuries ago, and that “one” (and only one) had “stayed behind”, this must indicate that Grenth is that one.

Imagine this: You never knew your mother. You know that she’s famous, and hear stories about her all the time …and it kittenes you off. She abandoned you, and is your motivation to be greater than she ever was. You, for whatever reason, never seem to measure up to her legend. Then, finally, an opportunity arises to prove yourself greater than she ever was. You (eventually) leap at that opportunity, even though the person giving it to you is your mother’s friend, and achieve things most would consider impossible. Then, by not-quite-coincidence, you have the chance to meet your famous mother. She… apologizes to you? You owe her nothing and expected nothing, but this throws you for a loop. She makes it clear, in her own way, that she has shared your pain and loss and that she would like to rebuild your relationship. You begrudgingly agree, and over time, you two manage to bond. You create the relationship that you two never had, and it’s like an emptiness in your body has been filled; it is everything you’ve ever wanted your entire life and more.

All of a sudden, everything you had is taken away… let’s say in a plane crash. The pain of years of loneliness and abandonment come flooding back, only worse now because you know what life was like without them. Panic sets in as you gather your friends and allies, but have no idea what happened to this person who is part of your life, finally, after all these years… Then, your mother, the woman you hated, then loved, then lost, is returned to you and killed in front of you in an act of pure malice. You subdue the villain responsible, but the reason she died remains, and you’re not entirely sure you have the strength to defeat it. Imagine what kind of mark that vicious roller coaster would leave on a person. That’s what Braham is going through.

GW2 - Would you like to turn the clock back?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trise.2865

Trise.2865

I don’t know about turning the clock back entirely, but there are certainly some features I miss. If we could transdimensionally fuse the parallel timelines – i.e. NPE vs Non-NPE – into an evolutionary-mutational amalgam retaining desirable traits of each while discarding undesirable permutations… that would be great. I shall include a condensed overview forthwith.

Translated for bookahs: Not want go back to start, but there bunch of kitten me can’t now do; want do again. Make short list.

-Manually unlocking weapon skills. I liked the idea of using a weapon to get better at using that weapon. I also liked having my second, and perhaps third attack unlocked before leaving the tutorial. I get that some considered it an extra grind; I get that maybe sometimes you forgot to fully unlock a weapon by max level and then unlocking the skills became a chore. Seriously, though, basic weapons were so cheap and easy to get, not unlocking your skills was entirely your own fault. This provided an actual, though temporary, in-game use for weapon vendors and white-level trash… to “try out” a new weapon type.

-No level locks. Okay, that’s not entirely true. Some stuff was level-gated, such as weapon-swapping, but the great majority of content was wide open for us to set the pace. Personal Story started immediately after the tutorial and progressed as you located and completed steps. You could jump to LA from your Home City right out of the gate and explore anywhere, regardless of level; limited only by your own ability to evade stronger mobs.

-Freedom of choice with skills and traits. The simple ability to choose the order in which skills and traits become available, and unlock the rest at my leisure. Coupled with this: the ability to have a (mostly) complete build by level 21. I get that not everyone liked the quicker pace, many complained that levels 30-60 felt “empty” without more stuff to unlock, but I disagree. The ability to have a complete build early-on and then tinker with it as you obtain more abilities is my favorite part of RPGs, especially Guild Wars. Conversely, looking at blank spaces in my build that I can’t fill in until I level up annoys me.

Trise.2865

Oh god, no. I fail hard to imagine this ingame. And how this would fit into the Thief class. We are neither snipers nor Jhin from League of Legends.

I’d like to have some focus on the basic idea of the thief class – and not driving it away like ArenaNet is doing right now by killing our profession’s identity. (Loud) rifles would be kinda off. I know the 1,200 range is for many a very important aspect, but I am not really sure about that…

Excelsior.

When I think rifles and thieves I picture Deadshot. Line it up, fire a few powerful shots, be gone before anyone is the wiser.

That works, actually. Being stationary in GW2 means almost certain death much of the time. Only true masters of stealth and evasion would even attempt to use a weapon that requires holding still for relatively long periods of time (i.e. >1s) to use effectively. Pretty kittene for PvP though. I assume most people wouldn’t bother, even if it had a guaranteed one-shot kill.

Maybe toss in some inspiration from Overwatch as well, specifically McCree’s ultimate: an attack that will always kill what it hits (players and normal mobs; interactions with advanced mobs/bosses, TBD), but has a cast time relative to the target’s current HP. …an “Ending Shot”, as it were. It fits in with the Thief theme too, literally stealing kills with this move; as your allies reduce the target’s HP, your ending shot speeds up.

In a word: No. No game will ever be balanced as long as people play it. Someone will eventually figure out how to break it, gain advantage, and “win” at it. Developers can try, certainly. They can realign certain combinations and interactions, generate rules to curtail deliberate misinterpretation, but ultimately, something will become the de facto “best” way to do things. Then people figure out what to use to beat the best, then that becomes the best, rinse, repeat ad nauseam. Keeping that flux in flux, moving and dynamic, makes a healthy metagame. That’s the best humans ever could do for other humans.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trise.2865

Dude… the world is ending. Tyria is dying, and the Dragons are the biggest, latest, and most pressing symptom.

The age of Humans is long since over. Besieged and held back by the most pathetic of Humanity’s enemies, the Centaur, Humans turn against and devour themselves in paltry political power-struggles.

The Norn are scattered and (though they’d never admit it) frightened. They never had a true home and, thanks to Jormag and Mordremoth, they likely never will. Their stories, their legend, their legacy, is scattered to the winds and all but forgotten.

The Asura have lost the vast majority of their knowledge and power when they fled Primordus, desperately seeking both to reclaim and reinvent what was lost decades ago. They can use their existing knowledge to study Tyria, but ultimately, all they can do with it is fully comprehend how kittened Tyria truly is.

The proud Charr were soundly defeated by the Humans’ gods time and time again, in life and in death, and forced into an humiliating stalemate with the Humans. Worse than that, the mighty Charr must admit they are not strong enough to fight the end on their own and, of all things, call for help. They are all but begging, desperately searching for someone as strong as they to help them fight. The Charr know, deep down, that their search is futile, for who could be as strong and resourceful as the Charr?

The Sylvari are infantile, newborns, and have just recently lost contact with the only being they could rely upon for serenity, knowledge, and wisdom: the Pale Tree. To put into context, imagine you are a toddler and your parents, whom you’ve never been away from, never known a day without, just died in front of you. Even worse for the Sylvari, they can still see the Pale Tree and know that she’s alive. She’s standing right there, still birthing new Sylvari from the Dream and shielding them all from Mordremoth as best she can, but they can’t reach her; can’t sense her.

I’d say Tyria is plenty “dark” without people being kittens to each other. I’ll re-iterate: the world is ending. Every life, every blade, every soul could mean the difference between survival and extinction. We now know that, through unity, we can fight and kill the Dragons. We do not know that killing them will stop, or even slow, the end of Tyria. We don’t know the full effects of a dragon’s death on the world, only that it’s just as bad as, if not worse than, the dragon itself. You can betray your allies, of course, but you know that every one you betray is another set of eyes not watching your back, another blade not fighting alongside you, another soul not battling against the end. It’s simple really: band together or die.

“When faced with extinction, […] every alternative is preferable.” – Dr. Leonard Church, Director of The Freelancer Project, Red vs. Blue.

Now, excuse the kitten out of me for wanting to face the end with a gods-kittened smile on my face.

Thinking of returning, but skeptical

Let me put it to you this way: Say, you buy a book. You enjoy the book, you reread the book several times, you go to conventions where they talk about the book, you tip the author for some extraneous tidbits to expand your experience with the book, or pay an artist to draw a character from the book, magazines/websites publish related side stories from the publisher for free, etc., etc…. you have a grand time with it. Then you tire of the book and put it on a shelf for a while.

Later, another book comes out from the same author and publisher. Same world, same characters, similar action beats, calls back to and draws heavily from the original, but new story, and new situations. The author charges the same price for the new book as he/she did for the previous book, which you still own and can read at your leisure, and says all free apocrypha related to the new book would be separated out for people who have read the new book. Not only that, but when you buy the new book, you can get a copy of the original book for free. Does that mean the owners of the original, you, were cheated?

Better yet, why not a scythe Greatsword skin?

Does emissary staff glow in dark?

It does have glowing particle effects, but it does not emit its own light. You can see it, dimly, in darkened areas (such as Sharkmaw Cavern), but it won’t illuminate the area like a Torch weapon or Fiery Dragon Sword.

Why are banners poofing on diconnect/log out?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So you placed a banner in a specific location, then logged out or otherwise disconnected, and when you got back, the banner was gone?

Assuming this was in a PvE area, it sounds like a district issue to me. As part of the “megaserver” system, maps have parallel instances, but objects placed in those instances (such as guild banners) are unique. The map instance you were in originally, where you placed the banner, was probably either full or closed upon your re-log, so you automatically entered a different one, where there was no banner. This is particularly troublesome in high-density maps, such as the main cities and Lion’s Arch.

Despairingly, yet fittingly, the system does not seem to recognize objects placed by a guild as guild members when determining zone placement. However, several guildies can “anchor” for you, that is, stay in the particular zone where you placed the banner. That way, if you disconnect or relog, the system will prioritize that instance over others of the same map and/or allow your guild to “join your friend” back into it.

Double click to ground target

I know for a fact that you can launch ground-target skills by clicking the ground. Press the button, reticule appears, click to fire or right-click to cancel. The only caveat is you must be facing your intended target (within 160 degrees) for it to work. I have done literally nothing with settings, so it must be by default.

Archeage style sea combat !

That’s a cool idea, but I think we can do more with it.

GW2’s world has commercially-available submarines and airships as well as fleets of boats. Personally, I’d much rather include Guns of Icarus style airship battles, or Star Trek-inspired submarine exploration/combat.

I believe a complex vehicle, like a tall ship, should require a small team to coordinate and operate. There could still be small, one-man craft, like fighters, bombers/mine-layers, or scout ships, but the biggest, most powerful vessels should be more complex. Ideally, these would be limited to special WvW maps or specific PvP scenarios, but there certainly could be PvE applications without breaking any “no fly” rules.

Item Collection Problem

As Electro said, a simple “/wiki” search for the skin’s name should reveal what items (if any) have said skin, as well as any alternative methods to find those items, such as special/limited events or Black Lion chests.

Point of order: The surest way to get a thread ignored is to whine about being ignored. That becomes self-fulfilling prophecy; I know I’m not the only one who stopped reading there. I would humbly suggest studying How to Give Good Feedback in depth.

When Will the PVE Berserker Meta Change?

When players’ mentality changes and they realize that DPS is not everything. In other words: never.

What else are you going to gear for? Funs per second?

You’ll find it difficult to get more than 160 to 280 millifuns per second, regardless of gear. However, maximizing funs per minute leans heavily toward Valkyrie’s and mixed gear, depending on your class, and per hour tends for a more centered, Celestial approach. You can also add a dozen or so effits per minute, which interferes additively with funs per minute, by investing into some Rampager’s… again, depending on your chosen profession.

Why no flail skins?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trise.2865

Trise.2865

There is no technical reason they haven’t done it. Both the Super Mace and Chain-whip Sword prove a flexible weapon skin is possible with current technology.

If I were to assume, I would guess the reasons are either lore-based (existing mace skills make less sense using a flail, except as a joke), or motivation-based (nobody wanted to do it or felt there was demand for it).
