If you’re not a new player you only get the expansion, basicaly an upgrade to your existing account. You don’t get a new account or a free character slot.

It’s funny that you think that paying 45 euros for an expansion, that (until now) doesn’t seem to contain that much content, is reasonable.

I’d be okay with 40 honestly, at least if the expansion is big enough.

Fifty bucks on the other hand is the price of a full game, and if they want to charge that, it should be because HoT adds as much content to the game as it launched with, something we all know isn’t going to happen.

I completely agree. 45euros for an expansion that doesn’t seem to contain that much content doesn’t really seem worth it imo.

This has nothing to do with the price of the expansion this has to do with Anet giving the middle finger to all the people that have already bought the game.

But seriously…guild capes…how could they forget that especially when they are now focusing on more guild related content?

The fact that it wasn’t announced doesn’t mean that it’s not in the expansion (maybe as an upgrade from the guild hall?) but even if it isn’t in the expansion I don’t think it’s something they can’t eventually implement through a simple patch

If they announced a small feature like hang gliders from Archeage and didn’t announce guild capes in the same speech means it’s probably not in the works for this expansion.

I don’t think gliders are a small feature, neither something cosmetic like capes. Gliders show a completely different way of traveling and exploring, they show the new verticality of the maps and also how the mastery system will change the gameplay. On the other hand capes don’t effect gameplay in any way.

You can speculate all you like about anything, but I think it’s wrong to use speculation as facts. We don’t know everything about the expansion, we only know about 3 new features and even about them we don’t know any real details so we can’t really speculate about things coming on another xpac even before the 1st one is released.

Right now everyone is just speculating about speculations based on very little official information. I think we should see the volume of content, the quality of content, the details about the new features and then start guessing about what will come next.

Trouble.3859

1) There will be a beta

2) The new zone(s) will be located far west in the Maguuma jungle nowhere near Orr

3) The basic story so far is that an Elder Dragon named Mordremoth has awakened, this is the jungle dragon. Apparently the Sylvari are under the influence of this dragon and after the pact goes to fight him some sylvari turn against the pact and the entire fleet is destroyed. This is where we are left off with this huge cliffhanger. You can see more information about the story so far here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=147x-wbCer0

4) The only things we know about the expansion is that they will implement Mastery system, profession specializations, a new profession: the revenant, guild halls, a new pvp mode, a new WvW borderland and a new region in the Maguuma Jungle. You can find out more here https://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/

5) Nothing is certain yet because they havent specified every single thing that will be implemented in this new expansion. For example we don’t know the number of zones this new region will have, we don’t know specific details on the mastery system or the profession specialization, we don’t know the exact function of the guild halls and we don’t know anything about new dungeons. So the details have not been announced yet.

If you wanna catch up with the story you can read up or even play season 2 in-game

And if the new map is the size of the ls map ? It means that even with 3 levels the new map is 3/4 size of a normal map.

Do you honestly think that Anet would be so stupid as to name something an expansion that only adds 1 single tiny map to the game and charge money for that ? There is no way they would do something like that

Trouble.3859

He says map. Not maps.

He doesn’t say zone, area, region, biome or anything else. He says Map.

Take that as you will of course.

“Map” can singularly refer to the entire world map of Tyria. What you’re calling a “map” is actually called a “zone” in the game. A “region” consists of many of these “maps”.

Either way, it’s a word used in an interview. Perhaps he chose the wrong word in the moment, and could be referring to the entire Maguuma jungle as “map”. The Maguuma jungle is quite a large portion of the world map, and it would be ridiculous to assume that it’s just “one” map.

This… I have no doubts that there will be more than one map. The Heart of Maguuma refers to the Maguuma region NOT a single map. They have also stated that new zones will have a verticality which was in no other previous zone in GW, this means that you’ll not only travel the world horizontally but also verticaly by climbing and gliding thus making the maps even bigger!

The features they announced were new features that don’t exist in the game now. I’m confident that we’ll have new zones, new dungeons and much more content than what was announced at PAX

I think it’s really difficult to gauge how many new maps (or zones, however you prefer to call them) we’ll get since it’s the first expansion for GW2. We don’t really have a reference.

All I can say is that I was initally disappointed by the size of Dry Top and Silverwastes… only to find out they’re full of nooks and crannys and there’s actually a lot to explore even though they look small on the world map. Even if HoT ships with a few maps it can turn out much more than it seems.

Yes I agree, I mean verticality does change everything. If 1 new map is about as big as 3 old maps due to the fact that you don’t only travel horizontaly (back and forward) but also verticaly (up and down) this could mean that even 3 maps could make a big difference

New Maps and Dungeons

Trouble.3859

I’ve seen people all over this forum complain about the possibility that we won’t be getting a lot of content in the expansion because Anet didn’t announce new dungeons and only 1 region but….

They announced a new region that they call “Heart of Maguuma”. The Maguuma region is HUGE, only by looking at the map you can see how big the Maguuma Wastes and Magus Falls are. You can easily fit about half of the maps we had at launch in that area and if you include the verticality of the maps (that until now didn’t actually have an effect on the gameplay) those maps could really be enormous. Also the fact that they only announced 1 new region doesn’t mean we won’t be getting new maps in seperate regions either in the expansion or in future patches and given the fact that we already know the story (S2) didn’t only talk about Maguuma I can really see that happening.

As for the dungeons, I highly doubt that they won’t be adding new instanced group content in the game. It’s just not something I can see being left out. We already know that they hired someone to work on raids so I have high hopes not only for 5-man dungeons but maybe 10-player content (?).

I’d really like to know what other people think about this though… (Even an answer from Anet would be great :P )

Sorry but no way is Nexon worse than NCSoft. They pay little to no attention to what their players want and they haven’t even got a website that works the way that it is supposed to. Every time they get a CM (community manager) that tries to interact with the players and listens to what they say said CM ends up getting fired. No way would I want them taking over here.

ArenaNet is a subsidiary of NCsoft, which means that not only NCsoft “owns” ArenaNet but it also has full control over anything that company does. So NCsoft = ArenaNet

Mordremoth

in Living World

Trouble.3859

I have gathered some information on the upcoming dragon, Mordremoth. However since this is clearly incomplete any information you may have or anything you want to add to this is welcome And yes I do realise that this information or some parts of it have been around for a while, I thought it might be nice if there was a place in the forums were we could mention the information we’ve all gathered so that people don’t have to go looking all over the internet for this.

Lets get started. Almost 1 year ago Colin Johanson talked about the jungle dragon in an interview, saying that Maguuma has a very nice history and clearly implying that if the jungle dragon makes an appearance in the storyline we’d have to explore Maguuma a whole lot more.

But, that wasn’t the first time the jungle dragon, Mordremoth, made an appearance. In fact, we have had it’s corruption around since Guild Wars 2 launched.

The Infinite Coil Reactor is a place in Mount Maelstrom where the Inquest have been experimenting with the Elder Dragon energies, there you will find 6 Zones:
Zone Black (Zhaitan)
Zone Violet (Kralkatorrik)
Zone Red (Primordus)
Zone White (Jormag)
Zone Blue which is still under construction implying that the Inquest want to experiment with minions of the deep sea dragon (a whole other topic)
and finally
Zone Green (Mordremoth)

Now once you get inside the dungeon Crucible of Eternity which is inside the Infinite Coil Reactor, you’ll find 3 experimental labs:
Experimental Lab Red
Experimental Lab White
Experimental Lab Green
As you’d expect Red=Primordus, White=Jormag and Green=Mordremoth, however in the Experimental Lab Green you’ll see some Evolved Husks that do look awfully similar to the Summoned Husks that you can find in Caledon Forest, The Grove and in Twilight Arbor (TA has already had a path added since LS1 that was connected to Scarlet and her plans). Now as you progress through the CoE dungeon you will have to defeat Subject Alpha, which if you do look at the combat log and the skills it uses you will find this: Teeth of Mordremoth.

So yes, the idea of the “Jungle Dragon” has been around for a while and obviously ArenaNet had always known that this would be the first new Elder Dragon that would make an appearance in Guild Wars 2 after Zhaitan.

Now some other information about the previous Elder Dragons and their awakening:

In 1078 AE, the first of the Elder Dragons to awaken, Primordus, began to stir. Its greatest champion, the Great Destroyer, and its destroyer army swarmed the Depths of Tyria, driving the asura to the surface and destroying multiple underground civilizations. The asura refugees united with the dwarves, as well as the norn and Ebon Vanguard, to strike at the heart of the destroyer army, defeating the Great Destroyer and delaying the awakening of Primordus until 1120 AE, but at the cost of the dwarven race, who underwent the Rite of the Great Dwarf in order to suppress the destroyer forces. To this day, the transformed dwarves fight them in the depths so that the surface may be spared, although in recent years small groups have made it to the surface world.

In 1219 AE, Zhaitan’s awakening caused the sunken nation of Orr to rise from the ocean, flooding the coastlines of Tyria and drowning thousands. Zhaitan conscripted those killed into its risen army, alongside the ancient dead of Orr, creating a fleet spanning the Strait of Malchor, and blocking access to and from Cantha while also invading north towards Kryta and southeast towards the Elonian border.

As we can see the patern is that when an Elder Dragon awakens it brings destruction, this has yet to be observed in Tyria since Mordremoth awakened. Could it be that the first update we’ll get is the aftermath of Mordremoth’s awakening ? Possibly some really big destruction in Maguuma ?

Again any information you may have on this is welcome

Season 2: What would you like to see?

Trouble.3859

As we can imagine the day that they announce the new Living Story season is approaching and we all pretty much know that it will probably be based on the jungle dragon Mordremoth and his awakening, we’ll also probably be driven deeper inside Maguuma and finally we all know that every time an elder Dragon awakes it brings destruction. Those are the things that we can all agree are probably (the key-word here is probably) going to happen.

My question is what would you like to see this season in the living story ? and what you would not want to see this season ?

Trouble.3859

Everyone has a subjective look on these things and while i agree, there is not enough “new” content left over from the stuff they have shown throughout the living story, so it feels like a set back, everytime something is taken away, i do not call them out for that, since there is still enough content there in the expanded core game experience.
At least for me.
You are unhappy, i understand that and if you find enough others who share your sentiments they might chime in this (or the several other) threads on the forum and i wish you good luck with that.
Maybe it works.
I for once, sit back, drink my tea and see how it continues for now.
We have our “promises” from Anet. If the S2 does not provide a certain amount of interest for me, i might join your camp, but right now i do not feel like it, since it is too early in my opinion.

I find it funny that people claim to support and like the game and they keep insisting that this whole thing has been an improvement to how the “expansion” and “update” system for MMO’s has been working up to now. I mean yeah sure keep the LS but put in some CONTENT that is not finished in 2 hours, and that can actually keep the playerbase entertained for more than a couple of days. Most players are not happy with this, most people are bored and the only ones who do remain in the game are just hoping for something to change. I just don’t see what you see, I don’t see how they’ve really updated the game since launch if you exclude some traits and some general improvements there is no new real content added to the game that can keep players busy. The only thing I’ve seen is promises being made that never live up to the expectations. To be honest with you I would prefer if Anet just told us what they’re planning to do with this game, this “top secret team” that keeps working on things that just “might” surprise us seems a bit like a joke. And trust me it is not too early, I’m afraid that it just might be too late seeing all these new games come out and all the hype they’ve been getting recently. This whole thing feels the exact same way that it feels in any other game, you know players sit afk in major cities, waiting for the next content update but for GW2 it’s not a few months that people do this, it’s nearly 2 years…

Nope, nothing permanently changed to the game… just these minor things…

Is that even content ? That is nothing… it’s been 2 years, not 6 months… 2 years and this is all they could do ? Looking at other games you can see that in 2 years they’ve released one or even two expansions, not bug fixes, not UI and map improvements but real expansions that keep people interested…. You know an mmo needs people to actually “work”, people need to be interested in the game in order to stay, content keeps players interested… so no real content = less interest = less money for the game company. You really think that by supporting this stupid (in my opinion) policy that Anet has adopted you’re really helping the game ? If no one complains then nothing changes. I’m not saying that GW2 is a bad game, but I am saying that it needs real, permanent content to stay alive…

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trouble.3859

Trouble.3859

So just because you don’t like it it doesn’t count? You claimed that there were no new content, which is clearly completely false. They have also added new mob-types, new crafting materials, new armors, new weapons, new crafting tier. Several new systems and so on. The list is rather long.

And all the temporary content from the Living Story is still content, even if it is not available at this time. It still took time and resources to create. That means new content basically twice a month for most of the games life.

Grinding would be repeating the same thing over and over and over and over again. I don’t really see that in GW2. Sure you CAN do it that way, but in order to progress, you don’t HAVE to do it that way. Thus no mandatory grind.
The fact that people seem to love to force grind upon themselves isn’t really the games fault though.

If you need an incentive (beyond liking the game) to play, then maybe you don’t actually like the game? I still play those old RTS-games from the 90s and none of those have really changed at all since then, and yet I still find them fun to play, even though I have done the same thing over and over and over and over and over again.

Really? So if Anet said “Look guys, we’ll continue to do this living story thing, but no real expansion is ever going to come out, no real permanent conent is gonna be added to the game” you’d be fine with it ? That’s a lie… you play an MMO cause you want to PROGRESS through the game and feel like it doesn’t end somewhere, that there’s always something to do that can make you get better armor, better weapons that actually make a difference. I’m a casual player myself but the time someone invests in the game should be noticable and not just on some stupid skin… if someone plays more he should feel like he’s rewarded for it. Right now you reach level cap, you farm the same dungeons and bosses over and over again until you eventually get bored and leave the game, like so many people have already done… doesn’t it bother you that the population has dropped so much in the last months ? That before this “megaserver” you’d rarely find someone around ?

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

Trouble.3859

They have never claimed there would be no grind.
They have claimed there would be no REQUIRED grind. Which is still very much true. You can experience every single piece of content in the game without ever grinding anything.

They have added rather much real content since release, but for some reason people seems to ignore that.
But I suppose Fractals, new dungeon path, Southsun and Edge of the Mists (to name a few) doesn’t count for some reason?

You can’t really blame the game for a bunch of elitists either. It is the players, not the game that creates elitism. And that will happen in every game that require some sort of skill and/or gear.

Fractals, a new dungeon path, a few pvp maps, and a new area that is always empty ? In 2 years ? I wouldn’t say that’s a lot. And as for the grind, I really think that everything in this game requires some form of grinding.

All I saw since launch was some temporary content that you could pretty much do in 2 hours. And now that the LS is over, nothing is really different…

There is no real reason to log in to the game once you’ve reached level cap except maybe PvP and even that gets boring after a while… I know you’re gonna say that I just like to complain and that if I don’t like the game I shouldn’t play, but the truth is that I like the game and I want to keep playing but I don’t have an incentive to actually play…

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

Seriously, what happened to this game? I remember a few years ago when Arenanet insisted that Guild Wars 2 would be a game with no grind, everyone could enjoy everything and people would be able to play the way they wanted.

And now, almost 2 years after launch here we are, no real content added to the game since launch, the same boring grind everyday for what ? To get skins ? So people leave the game (like I did) and then come back and see that instead of the usual thing you see in MMO’s, you know “lfg gg” you see the “5k+ only” and when you try to join a group you get kicked. It’s like you are punished for not doing the same boring thing everyday, or for not finishing the achievements of the LS. And when you finally manage to get back into the game you notice that nothing has changed, your character can’t really progress and you’re stuck doing the same thing you’ve done for almost 2 years.

I just don’t find any real reason to play, I want to find something worth doing but nothing is really interesting or new… Just wondering if I’m the only one feeling this way…
