Any changes to end-game content?

I’m actually getting off topic. I’m not really here to attack Guild Wars 2, I was merely curious if any changes had been made that might make the game more fun to regularly play. Or if any changes have been considered, proposed, or announced by the Development team. I understand not everyone has a problem with this game (if they did, they probably wouldn’t still be playing).

Anyways, it sounds as if there are no plans of making changes to encourage gameplay, and that was really my only question (I tried googling it but couldn’t find any information on changes or upcoming changes).

Thanks for your input.

And that’s you final opinion… People told you about a lot of new stuff in the game and you still conclude with that.

lol, where did anyone in this thread mention any “new stuff?” Are we reading the same thread?

The first time I played Guild Wars 2 I was blown away at how amazing and innovative it was until I got to high level and realized that there was no incentive or reward for playing the game.

Out of curiosity has this changed? Have they added a dungeon queue system, any incentives for grouping with other players, or significant and meaningful rewards for logging into the game and playing?

The last time I played GW2 even leveling a new character seemed irrelevant as you didn’t feel anymore powerful at level 60 than you did at level 40, and if you wanted to make “PVP” your end-game then your level really didn’t matter at all unless you enjoyed the talentless zerg fest WvWvW — I personally didn’t like this. Large-scale PVP is historically not popular even in other MMOs (Uldum, Isle of the Conquest etc.).

Have any changes been made to remedy these problems? Because I would love to play this game again without feeling like I’m investing a large amount of time to accomplish nothing.

Dude just launch the client (by clicking the icon on your desktop – its not so hard!) and checkout yourself. Its free to play!

You don’t need to start a rage topic on the forums!

The game actually isn’t installed at the moment as I haven’t had any desire to log in for months, but thanks. I guess that is one potential way of finding recent changes. Google didn’t yield any results.

Nope,. nothing has changed. It’s the same as it was. You know why? Because it’s not a problem.

What you want is a different game, and that’s not this game. The concepts you’re espousing are the very things Anet has tried to move away from. Probably not the game for you.

You can say I am wrong, but when myself, and millions of other players who bought this game and loved it opt to play an inferior MMO (mechanic-wise) and even pay a monthly subscription fee to access said inferior MMOs because they offer some sense of accomplishment and reward, I think there is a major problem.

MMOs shouldn’t feel like a single player game, and level-based games with itemization shouldn’t feel as if your level or equipment is largely irrelevant.

I’ve been playing MMOs since EverQuest came out. So EverQuest, Asheron’s Call, Anarchy Online, DAoC, EverQuest 2, SWG, Vanguard, Warhammer Online, World of Warcraft, Rift, SW:ToR, EVE etc. are just a few I’ve played over the years. I find GW 2 to be the most innovative, but I find little incentive to log in and play, and when I do play it feels like a ghost town or single player game. When I feel this way in other MMOs I generally queue up for either a dungeon or world event and am immediately surrounded by other players. This wasn’t even an option in GW2, and on the rare occasion I ran into a new player there was less encouragement to communicate as there is no requirement to form an actual organized group.

Any changes to balance ranged/melee?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: UnicornViolet.3081

UnicornViolet.3081

I got this game around Christmas, played for about 5 days, and went back to WoW. One of the biggest turn-offs about the game (besides general lack of end-game content, or incentive to play), was the fact that there was essentially a huge gap between ranged and melee combat effectiveness.

According to a thread I made around that time period, this seemed to be the general consensus of other players as well (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-feels-incredibly-anti-melee/page/2#post1088197).

Has anything changed in the last two months that addressed this?

It is an incredibly anti-melee game in PvE

I get that melee is supposed to be a higher risk-reward but the scale is just completely off.

90% of fights in this game are a snooze-fest for ranged combat and can easily be beat by avoiding the red circles.

Melee have to not only avoid the red circles through a clusterkitten of particle effects, they must also observe the boss animations for any sort of 360 melee swings or choreographed attacks and avoid their auto attacks which sometime trigger within 0.5 seconds.

And all that while the boss randomly switches aggro targets every 5 seconds.

Totally balanced.

The biggest joke is the number of abilities that ONLY target melees and that ranged simply don’t have to worry about.

Yeah, honestly, I kind of wish when a player had a melee weapon equipped that it gave him an aura similar to the defensive stance that Warriors in World of Warcraft have. Basically reducing incoming damage by a significant amount, because this is ridiculous. It’s a fun game, and I like having the option to play ranged even as a traditional melee class, but I -don’t- like not having the option to melee without seriously gimping my contribution to my group.

It seems like every group event, and dungeon I have been in heavily favors ranged players.

Is there any advantage to playing melee character at all?

Has Arena Net addressed this problem at all?

I take it your new to the game?

Melee is harder often more so for new players, but you do a lot more Damage. ((and in things like the Fractals there are mobs that will reflect projectiles))

you often have to be more active as a Melee use’er but when you understand the game better it becomes much easyer.

I run a sword and shield warrior and only use my Riffle for bit of extra damage if I am forced to fall back. I would say though if you have the option to always have both on you.
UNLESS you are extramly good at running a specialized build

I don’t think you understand the meaning of balance. When one play-style requires an enormous amount of effort, and the other doesn’t, the game is not balanced. This is similar to comparing an Arcane Mage to a Frost Mage in the World of Warcraft. Both are viable, but an Arcane Mage will always mop the floor with a Frost Mage with the press of one button.

Secondly, for killing trash mobs, melee might be able to out-dps ranged, but in group events, boss fights etc. ranged strongly pull ahead. This is due to the fact that ranged players have 100% uptime while these alleged “pro” melee players typically spend about 50% of the fight waiting to regain health / resources so that they can run back in and hit the champion / boss two more times before running back out to stand next to the ranged players who are chipping away the entire time.

I see many thieves just go P+P/SB for dung’s… and in AC there are mobs that’ll knock you down and nom on you to death unless you’re a pretty heavy tank or are able to use something to break the knockdown. If you want to use mele as a thief in a dung, learn to dodge/blind well.

Oh yeah, a lot of it was avoidable (of course I didn’t know the encounters or animations), but I’m curious if with the right gear / traits, if I can get hit and not meet certain death, or if that’s pretty much impossible with this profession?

I bought this game last month for $60, regular edition, and now Deluxe Edition is $45?

I think this is kind of a middle finger to all of us who bought the game for full price. Not only did we pay $60 for no perks, but now there are people buying this game for $45 and getting a handful of perks for less than us buying a no-perk, more expensive copy. Come on now, Arenanet.

Yes, I know it’s a temporary sale, but that doesn’t justify it.

What do you guys think?

It still justify the price.
Would you buy the game for $60 and play 5 months earlier?
Or would you buy the game for $15 less and play 5 months later?
Think in this perspective.

lol, I bought it at wal-mart like 4 days ago, and when I got home and saw regular purchases were getting deluxe edition I got excited, but apparently it doesnt apply to physical copies. Im not really mad though, deluxe edition doesnt really seem to have anything other than a few cosmetics.

It’s not as bad as paying $150.00 for CE of SW:ToR, and subscribing for 3 months, only to have the game given away for free, and having F2P players get treated better than you because they spent $4.00 at the cartel. If you play any game long enough, this is bound to happen. I remember paying $60 for Diablo 3, and my friend buying it at Toys R Us for $10 a few months later. lol!

@Vasham

You’re greatly overstating the case for GW2’s death. Look at the xfire numbers: http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2. The game’s population plummeted after launch, but has since stabilized at the #5 slot on xfire with about 50% of WoW’s playtime. Additionally, the server populations appear to spike whenever new content is released.

That link is so bogus. There is only 26,000 people playing WoW?

I found myself wanting to make this same thread earlier tonight after I finished my daily achievement. I was like “Thank God that is over!” and then I realized that nothing changes and that there isn’t anything else to do. There is nothing else to do but wander around by yourself doing karma quests, and to be honest that was the absolute most boring thing about WoW, and why I played a tank just to get instant queues and level 1-85 that way because running to point A, and collecting certain number of items is unbearable, but in this game it’s the only thing there is to do. Kind of mind boggling really. At least there is no subscription fee. I could see logging in once every 3-4 months being fun for the same reason I occasionally still log into Diablo 3.

Drive to level?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnicornViolet.3081

UnicornViolet.3081

I bought guild wars 2 a couple weeks ago and it feels pointless to level my character to level 80.. You earn all your skills for your weapon after 5 min. of game play and armor and pvp is pointless to try and achieve a higher level because the armor skins barley change so there is no drive to look cooler, and as for pvp when you join the pvp area, you’re already level 80 with good gear… You cant even level up to 80 then go back to a level 10 zone and own everything there because it changes your level to match the surroundings…

So tell me, why should I continue to level my character?

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m level 41, and already bored of the game. The mobs in the 15-25 zones beat me up just as bad at level 41 as they did when I was level 15. There aren’t any dungeons, or battlegrounds to mess around in, and no incentive for grouping or social interaction. The whole game feels like a giant world where you wander around aimlessly completing karma quests by yourself. There is no actual goal in the game, and I find the game pointless already. With like 55-60ish hours ? That’s an all-time low for me, MMO-wise, and I’ve been playing them since EverQuest came out.

you can’t tank. period.

I’m definitely not trying to tank. I played a Thief because I liked the idea of being high mobility, but in some encounters it doesn’t even matter. I can be behind the mob and he some how one shots me, or take the Fire elemental for instance. You -can- melee, but you’re going to take way more damage, and your “uptime” (ie. time spent actually being able to hit the target is going to be cut in half). I’m just curious if the encounters or equipment at level 80 afford Thieves more of an opportunity to melee without getting destroyed by unavoidable damage, or falling far behind in damage because of a lack of gap closer.

rogue classes are impossible to balance in an online setting? That seems true, every time I get onto TF2 the whole team is filled with spies……wait, that’s not true at all.

1) Very few FPS players play an FPS to play a melee class.
2) Spy was largely considered the most overpowered class in the entire game for the first 5 years or so of its existence. (Simple Google search can more than confirm this.)
3) Even when Rogues accounted for 90% of the top rankings in Warcraft Arenas, Rogues were still the least played class in the game. OP does not always = popular.

I can’t say from a PVP standpoint, but in PVE Thief is arguably the worst profession in the entire game. This is coming from a guy who has Necromancer, Engineer, Mesmar, and Guardian too. Any of those classes can stroll through mobs getting mad killing sprees. My Thief can barely handle more than 1 mob at a time, and even then he still does it way less efficiently. I really regret spending so much time leveling my Thief because now I’m going to have to level a new character, and I already have like 6 other video games I got for Christmas that I have to play.

One thing that helps a lot is this ability called “dodge.” I didn’t know about this skill until I was level 20 or so, but once I found out about it my survivability went through the roof. I am not sure, but I think the default key for it is “v” on your keyboard. Try it and you will be amazed.

lol, I’m kidding. This happens to me all of the time too. I get nearly one shotted, so then I leap way back and watch everyone else fight until I get enough HP to run back in and try to hit the mob again. The most frustrating thing is everyone will say “just use a bow.” I made a Rogue because I wanted to stab people with knives. If I wanted to use a bow all of the time I probably would have made a Ranger. :p
