Gem Exchange Fix where?

And now it’s currently only up 15.8%

Except it’s not. How do I know? I was monitoring the price of gems daily for 2 months before the Halloween patch (early morning UK time to be specific). There was obviously variation, but 10g was buying me on average 75 gems (actual amount fluctuated between 70-80). Right now, 75 gems are listed at 13g 61s – that’s more than a 35% increase by my reckoning.

Gem Exchange Fix where?

Varakkys.2490

The problems that are left are on the Gem selling side, not Gem buying.

I wouldn’t say that. On the Gem buying side, there’s still the issue of the 40% price hike the day the Halloween patch hit. I find it pretty hard to swallow that there’s been no internal ‘adjustment’ of the exchange rate, no matter how much Anet denies it.

You honestly need the community’s suggestions on how to reinstate the functionality that you just removed? Could you be any more patronising?

  • You may be surprised to know this (I know I was) but very few people bought gems at smaller denominations than the first one offered in the new system. That’s not to say they never did, nor that there wouldn’t be the desire to do so. But overall, the current options were selected based on player purchases in the past.

As one of those players who has only ever bought gems in small denominations, and also as a player who’s never possessed more than 60G or so at any one time, I guess I won’t be buying gems ever again. What a great improvement to the system, well done!

Why do you people continue to chase new players at the cost of isolating your current players? Ever heard the expression ‘a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush’? Or if that’s too difficult to understand, maybe you should just try googling customer retention vs customer acquisition.

  • The team is going to listen to your feedback and, if and when it’s practical and desirable, they can look towards adjusting the new system to better meet your needs.

Like the action they’ve taken in response to feedback on the (not so) new trait system? You’ll forgive me if I don’t hold my breath…

TLDR: screwing over your current playerbase yet again in order to chase the mythical new customer.

I love some of the Ambrite weapon designs, and I’d be more than happy to work toward attaining them as a long term goal. Except I can’t, because of the usual RNG BS. Would it be so bloody terrible Anet, to provide players with an option to trade currency (geodes, karma, whatever) for an unidentified fossil?

Communication with players - a comparison

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Varakkys.2490

I feel pretty much the same as the OP. I don’t know anything about the long term future of this game. I know nothing beyond the vaguest details about the short term: Halloween, season 2 and probably Wintersday.

Is an expansion being worked on? Don’t know
Are new classes coming? Don’t know
New abilities/weapons? Don’t know
How long will season 2 last? Don’t know
Will there be a break in season 2 for Xmas/New Year? Probably, don’t know
Will the break be another 3 months? Don’t know
Is the trait revamp being worked on in response to feedback? Don’t know
What happened to the ‘expansion worth of content’ that the Living Story was supposed to deliver? Don’t know
What happened to the super secret project that was being worked on by another team around the time that Living Story’s two week cadence was announced? Don’t know
I could go on and on with this…

This company policy of not talking about any future development is just ridiculous. Bottom line, I find it hard to invest in a game of this nature without having something exciting to look forward to. As a result, I’ll dabble from time to time, but ultimately my money goes elsewhere.

Ranger Warhorn 5 grants Might and Fury to the entire party, but doesn’t deal any direct damage itself. So, if a player wants to increase their personal DPS and appear to “pull their weight,” they must never use it — even though it would greatly benefit the party and increase everyone’s overall damage-dealing potential.

GW2 has all kinds of skills like this, with more complicated potential benefits hidden through support and buffs, or combo fields and finishers. Appealing to a raw personal damage meter as a measure of player ability or who is “pulling their weight” is incredibly myopic. You sound like you do not understand this game at all, much less sound like someone anyone would want to play with.

It is none of your business, how much DPS other party members are doing. If you don’t like playing with random people or don’t feel like most people are as “good” as you, find a hardcore guild and party up with them.

And you sound like one of the people that fears being booted for low contributions or performance. Plus, if they are in my party, then yes it is my business. Your way of reasoning is very selfish. What you’re basically saying is yeh, i’ll join your party but I’ll do the hell what I like and no suggestions, hints, advice or directions from other party members are welcome. Who wants to party up with someone like that?

I’ve never been booted from a party in any game for a low DPS, and you know, I still don’t want the kitten thing.

Not all good players need be elitists. Some of us don’t mind teaching…or even carrying…others.

Wait, can’t you teach in a dps setup? Because there’s a lot of “elitists” helping new people in gw2. Or did I misunderstood?

Anyway, nay, a dps meter would lead to bad behaviors, like all pug guards running 5/6/2/0/0/2 or any more damaging option that suits instead of the support 5/4/0/0/4, or eles not running pf and weak spot.

Sure I can teach. I’m not the problem. I wouldn’t be using recount.

The problem is (and this is a problem most people seem to not acknowledege) is that the hard core community remains a small percentage of games, because the hard core community isn’t welcoming in general.

There are plenty of people who don’t know what to do in a dungeon, try a dungeon get yelled at and kicked and never get back. (I rewrote the next sentence six times to not get infracted lol).

The people who do this are their own worst enemies because they chase off potential players who might one day be like them through lack of patience. Then they complain no one knows how to play the game.

The tool set provided for any game shouldn’t encourage people to treat other people like this.

Thing is the hardcore community described at elitists are actually the most helpful to new players. Look at the dungeon mentor guild, and the dozens of arah soloers taking inexperienced players with them to show them the ropes. Those people getting yelled at are usually guilty. They join an “exp” lfg, and expect to get carried to the endboss. The few willing to learn get all the support from us elitists. This thread and the dungeon in general is full of hate against better and experienced players for whatever reason, meanwhile those experienced players are busy teaching. There’s idiots on both sides, and name calling on both sides, but you can’t reduce a community of like minded players looking for improvement into a stereotype of unwelcoming and uneducated crowd. There’s nothing to do in this game as an “hardcore” ( read: experienced) player; thus we teach the new generation of players.

I agree with this actually, I said the same thing about farmers. All communities have good and bad players in them.

The more visible your bad players, the more likely your communities reputation will be tarnished by them. By the same token, there are people who run around calling others bads, talking about how great they are. It’s not just my imagination. And not all of them are great. That’s not my imagination either. In my experience, the best people aren’t usually the loudest.

Tools like this won’t just empower the true elite. Tools like this will give a weapon to the other crowd, which is my problem with it.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Good players generally know they’re good without the use of recount and it’s ilk. They’re also usually willing to share their knowledge, which as a dungeon noob I’m personally very grateful for.

The prominent use of DPS meters is to enable the undesirables to foist the blame for their own incompetence onto others, usually in the most obnoxious way possible. My experience, obviously, ymmv.

Where on earth do you get this information from?

Strangely enough, there was a poll on reddit which put the explorer population just over the dungeon running population. But I wouldn’t call that conclusive by any means.

i’m confused? It took me maybe 30 minutes max to hit level ten (the level at which at you unlock all your basic weapon skills) getting to 15 where the rest of it and a utility unlock took me another 20ish minute because the way the personal story steps are now that got me almost all the way to 15, and finishing dailies pushed me over. I had no problems with this system at all and the best part is I don’t have to go back and kill 20-30 monsters for every weapon. I just go and they are all unlocked.

30 minutes, huh? I just spent 20 minutes on a new warrior, and I’ve just hit level 4. 20 minutes of utter boredom, where every fight consists of pressing 2, then 1, then waiting. Not a single weapon or armour drop, and the only usable quest reward being… another almost identical sword, which doesn’t give me any extra power until offhand weapon unlocks in 3 more levels.

A assume your’e grinding or not doing events, because every heart fills the bar about 33%. Three hearts gives you a level. With events in the mix, you go up very fast. I’ll test it on a warrior later. It’s certainly faster on my ranger.

I did the (human) start instance which left me at level 2, then the farm heart which almost took me to 3, then the kill drakes/eggs heart which took me to 4. No events spawned at all during that time. The sword was the level 3 reward. Hearts are half a level, btw.

That’s all fine and dandy when the Living Story is up and running. We’ve had four weeks of Living Story content in the last five months. For the other 16 weeks (and counting), we’re left with little more than what the game released with almost two years ago.

Scarlet’s Playhouse may well have been possible solo… but putting the 5 person label on the entrance would tend to discourage people from trying.

Yep, that was me. Finished all the lead-up quests a few days in and then stopped at the point I was ‘told’ I’d need a party to carry on as it was getting late in the evening. I never got around to forming a group for it before the event was over (incidentally, also two weeks earlier than expected).

And then exactly the same thing happens with SAB. I can’t remember how I found out you could solo that one as well, but it certainly wasn’t through any means that the game provided.

Seriously Anet, get your kitten together with these things. In-game communication is appalling.

Varakkys.2490

I really couldn’t give a rat’s kitten about people getting the monthly twice – all power to them in fact.

What gets my goat is that my progress in the ‘master crafts’ has been wiped before completion. In order to make those crafts, I salvaged all my stored loot for mats. As a pretty casual player, that stash took a couple of months to collect, 2-300 salvages in all.

Just to salt the wound, it seems that the master craft category has been replaced by the 500 salvages one, which I very much doubt I’ll be able to complete from scratch within the month.

Pretty kitten ed off right now.

This game has the biggest concentration of whiners I’ve ever seen.

You know what I’ve been doing? Map completion. Because I didn’t sit on my butt obsessively playing the game for hours every day since the launch grinding through the content. It’s a freaking video game, it has finite boundaries. If you’re going to sit and obsessively blast through everything as fast as possible just to get it done you’re going to run out of things to do and be left just grinding on the newest additions. Been playing since September and I’m only at 60% since I didn’t just blast through it all as fast as I could.

So Bash hasn’t been a real problem for me since, you know, I just kind of hit pinatas now and then as I walk by and collected all the taffy and fireworks I needed (and killed the holos) in the course of normal play. You know what that means I didn’t have to do? Double-click a taffy stack for several minutes straight. Run around hitting “F” on pinatas for three hours straight. Intentionally hunt down holograms for several hours straight (in fact, I got that done just cleaning up the Iron Marches map and doing the dailies each day).

Crazy, huh? You don’t just sit on your bum obsessively slaving away like the game is a long checklist and you don’t run out of content right away. Wow. Who would have thought?

Some of you people really need an actual hobby. You’d be a lot happier.

This post is a shining beacon of truth in the sea of idiocy that these forums are. Very well said!

Longevity Of The Game

If Anet pulls another Nightfall/EotN, this game will be dead sooner rather than later.

You see this is where opinion comes into play. I loved Eye of The North – it added lots of new zones, races to meet, the story was actually interesting and my boyfriend points out that Nightfall was his favorite one. While a lot of players did love Cantha, some of us here love Ellona too.

As someone who didn’t play GW until after EotN released, Nightfall was far and away my favourite campaign.

I know a lot of people swear by Prophecies, but I thought it was just awful. The story was disjointed, utterly derivative, and completely predictable. Despite the level 20 cap, the pacing was terrible and the whole thing felt like a massive grind. If I’d played at release, I’d have quit within a couple of weeks and likely never gone back.

Funny how opinions work, eh?

just my perception, but since launch, every 2 hours netted me 250 coffers. i know, i timed it and sold them when i hit a full stack. since the patch, i’ve gotten 150-170 per 2 hours. the kill speed is the same as i had overkill aoe(they died within 3 seconds pre and post patch) so the only difference is the added 3 seconds for invuln, which shouldn’t offset my hourly rate. i’ve stayed in the same zones every time, so that’s not a variable. gear hasn’t changed.

i often go 2-3 nodes with only taffy dropping and usually it’s 1 coffer per node. i used to get 2-6 per node pre patch.

call me crazy but over 2k coffers sold…i can feel a difference

How on earth are you getting 100+ coffers per hour? I’ve been running around starter zones for completions, killing everything I see along the way, and I’m getting 20-25 an hour at best

What if I want to gather the mats myself because its more rewarding that way? I can’t play it how I want.

Actually you can play it how you want. It’s just going to take you longer.

Current Server: Pikey Square (EU)
Interested Activities: Dungeons, Dynamic Events, Exploration, World Completion
Active: most weekday mornings (6-9am UK time) and evenings (8-11pm), anytime weekends

Additional Comments:
I’ve been playing about two months on and off. Really enjoyed the game initially as starter zones are always packed but was seeing less and less people as I progressed through the mid level zones. Dynamic events were the most interesting aspect of levelling to me but I ended up having to ignore most of them as the further up you go, the less possible it seems to solo them. My first character just hit 80, the last 30 or so levels having been achieved almost exclusively by hopping from one world boss event to the next. My world completion stands at a pathetic 35%, and I haven’t been inside a single dungeon.

I’m a chronic altaholic and I’m already working on my second character, with four more waiting in the wings. My primary goal right now is to earn enough gold to buy character slots for the two professions I’m missing.

I’d love to find some other newbie (or patient veteran) players with whom to explore the world, dungeons and generally experience everything GW2 PvE has to offer. This guild sounds like just the ticket!
