Still looking for more great players to join us, especially WvW players to fill out our composition!

Hey, I am a returning player to GW2 with a host of WvW experience from 2014 / 2015 time period on Crystal Desert and Yak’s Bend. I’ve got a few friends that I also play with and we are all currently looking to find an ACTIVE guild that regularly plays the game together. So, with that being said, I have a few questions for you:

- What is your total membership size?
- What is the typical activity within your guild on a daily basis?
- What sort of activities does your guild participate in currently?
- Have any of your recruiting policies changed since this was listed?

There was a time when the dye system was very different and at that time dye unlocks were account based, but we have since changed the dyes system and we really feel that character based is the right way to go and the system we have now is the best one for the game.

Customized dye should be something that denotes your characters progress, like better looking, more elaborate gear. As you spend more time on your character, they grow and gain access to more customization options. If we make dyes account based, this progression will only happen on one character. We wanted character customization to remain tied to the character but we felt that one-time-use dyes discouraged players from customizing as often as they would like, that is how we arrived at the current system.

There are 400 dyes in the game, we do not think of dyes as something that a character should unlock all of, it is not meant to be a collection feature. Each character should have a unique palette and we have made enough colors to make this possible. Dyes come from world drops, rewards, crafting, the Mystic Forge, and the Gem Store and we expect that over the life of a character you will collect a lot of them.

you may have deleted the posts but the internet always has copies

why are you removing character progression? (again) and what you described as the best dye system for the game?

people literally begged you to keep the account bound system when you announced character bound, the time to listen to that feedback was then, during beta before the game launched you told them that character bound was part of your vision for the game, where is that vision now?

im getting pretty tired of complete reversals on design. does anyone there know what they are actually doing? the development increasingly looks like an incompetent mess to me.

This is literally the best post in this thread. Haha, and so truthful. Go watch the manifesto if you want serious design flip-flops. Simple fact being ANET no longer has the resources to develop AAA games so instead we end up with changes to the dye system as “new features”.

So in your opinion its better to make a mistake and then just stick with it forever rather than realize it was a mistake and correct it? ANet realized they were wrong and are correcting it. Do you also demand that when people change the way something works in real life that they also compensate you fully for past purchases? Did you demand Valve give you your money back for TF2 when they made it free to play? I love the way many people on this forum get bent out of shape when something doesnt go 100% their way but when you benefit from a change, like the new wardrobe with a legendary, people are AMAZINGLY ok with it. Lots of growing up to do on these forums for sure.

Think of all the unidentified dyes you are getting as an average value of all the dyes you have purchased. You gain value on the commons/masterworks and lose value on the rare dyes.

No, I think Shadow Blade is asking for some level of consistency in design philosophy. I think that’s a simple request.

The account based system was in beta and this was changed before the game was released. Like all games, things get seen over time and things that were considered best at one point may not be best now.

The fact is GW2 is a AAA title, Anet’s games are all AAA. This is a change to a COSMETIC feature. As for flip flops, very little in the way has changed from the manifesto. If you want to see flip flops, I suggest you go look at the game done by the company many of Anet’s employees used to work at several years ago.

You lost 100% credibility when you said “very little in the way has changed from the manifesto.” Either you have not seen the manifesto, or you haven’t played Guild Wars 2. Since you managed to log-in to a forum, smack some keys together and form a sentence, I am going to assume you have played the game and not seen the manifesto. I recommend taking a watch of it, it will elaborate much more on what we speak of.

With the removal of Dye’s from the random drop table will there be any change to the requirement of 250 dyes for the Gift of Color?

Yes. We just received verification from Dev that we will be reducing the amount of unidentified dyes needed to 100.

How can people get unidentified dyes after the patch? Laurels and gem store? The only Mystic Forge recipe I can see on the wiki is an sPvP recipe (requiring glory), are there other recipes or are they adding new ones do you know?

That’s a good point. There is a decent chance that they will release more mystic forge recipes for them.

They should just give everyone all the legendaries. Why should we have to earn things!

This is an absolutely unfair way to treat players who followed the original method put forth to dying your characters. I personally bought Abyss and Celestial on all my characters to ensure that they had the looks I wanted throughout the game. This cost me several hundred gold. To those of you who claim, oh you are only gaining by this… no, you aren’t. Consider the money sunk to get these dyes, everyone who spent gold on them couldnt spend that gold on other items they may have wanted. Maybe we should all just get legendaries too since that’s free and evereveryone wins! No harm no foul right? You’re all too ignorant and self centered… it’s okay because you are gaining something and “a few others” lose. It’s okay in that case right?

The simple solution is a 1 to 1. If a player has a duplicate. Return them a duplicate of the EXACT SAME type. This is simple business practice, and since gold in this game carries an equivalent real life monetary value, ANET is essentially extending a nice big middle finger to those that played by the rules. Shame on you ANET, very very very poor business practices with this company. Do what is ethical and right, something you seem to be doing less and less lately.

Please recall that a C is average in typical grading systems. I would ask you to reevaluate whether or not the above listed was better than average, average, or below average when framing your discussions. This is big professional grading, not grade school equivalent. Also, keep in mind I am not grading it at all on what the content was like, just how well they have met their quoted phrases so far!

Player Roles (C-)

“Something that has developed naturally over time and that we would like to encourage is the definition of roles within WvW. Everyone has likely seen a commander laying out battle plans and then subsequently seen that one thief mucking up those plans. It’s our goal to introduce more systems that encourage play within a wide variety of roles, not just those two. Scouts, siege masters, and defenders are only a sampling of the roles we intend to add to. We think that these are all a vital part of the success of any server in WvW, so we want to reward players who do these tasks so that they feel like their time is properly valued.

Zergs (D)

“Our goal is to continue to encourage organized large groups while giving small, tactical groups the necessary tools to put a dent into larger mobs of less-skilled players. We think that it can be fun to run around in a zerg — but we also think that the game should be about tactical acumen and skill more than sheer numbers. In order to achieve that, we will continue to make tweaks to the scoring system to properly reward smart play and to make it possible for a server to prevail over superior numbers with superior tactics. We will also continue to make changes to siege weapons and introduce new siege weaponry to throw the balance in favor of well-organized groups while retaining the joy of jumping right into things for more casual WvW players.”

Overall : (C-)

I think ANET has done an “okay” job in delivering the content outlined so far. Obviously, there is still time left in the year to make a final and lasting impression on players. As of right now, the PVE content within the game is rather strong, typically seeing what appears to be the most development man-hours. However, the lore of the Living Story is rather lackluster and misses meaningful and purpose in itself. Rewards have been vastly improved as promised, with a greater variety of things to earn and achieve through all areas of the game (Besides sPVP, sorry guys and gals!). It’s awesome to see that players are finding that nearly all the content in the game can reward them in a meaningful and unique way. World vs World and sPVP are probably the weakest points of the game right now. Balancing is far from being kosher, and much of the meta driven in the game is around exploiting of broken mechanics introduced by ANET throughout the development cycle. In addition new skills and traits have not been regularly included, unless you count “1” PVE based healing skill as “skills” (Note the difference in plural).

Recommendation for Improvement :

Draw upon your roots! What Guild Wars 2 needs is a true breath of lore and competitive atmosphere. Guild Wars 1 has a strongly written lore with a vast variety of cohesive content, work with what you have sometimes. In addition, you have writers that develops three fantastic books. Perhaps, develop around the lore built within those books instead of trying to reinvent the wheel? Guild Wars 1 had fantastic PVP content as well, focused around providing a wide array of options to players for their build types and strategies. However, on the opposite end, relentless nerfing and restrictions on classes has shifted Guild Wars 2 from having lots of viable options to continually having less and less. Study what made Guild Wars 1 a success, and Guild Wars 2 will develop from that! Don’t bite off more than you can chew either, this community is harsh because they want quality content. Everyone here would rather see a well finished product months late than something meaningless now. In addition, this means working with your community and being transparent. Your fans will guide you down the path to success, and being stubborn as developers and sure that you know what is best from a “data sheet” might not fully represent the true reality.

These are simply my thoughts, hopefully this sticks somewhere and it gets the proper attention it deserves. I hope that ANET continues to develop what I know can and someday will be an outstanding game.

Living World and the Two-Week Release Schedule (C-)

“Our Living World releases will expand on the promise of what it means to be a continually growing game. In the future, you’ll see a wider array of content and experiences in each release, with a greater focus on permanently expanding content. We’ll go into specifics on the variety of playable content you’ll be receiving as each update approaches, but some of our focuses will include improving our existing world bosses, continuing to update and refine our dungeons and fractals, creating world events with a larger and more permanent impact, and expanding the number of dynamic events across the world.”

New Skills and Traits (D)

“We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them. To go along with this, we’ll expand the content and options to earn skill points to help encourage players to experience different challenges and content throughout the world. These skills and traits will be designed to be balanced with the existing skills/traits we currently have in the game, and will simply compliment and expand the range of abilities and tactics available to each profession. Both WvW and PvE players can acquire skills and traits, and additional means of earning skill points will be addressed for both core content areas.”

Champion Rewards (A-)

Champions in the game will be updated so each will always drop a guaranteed reward box for any player that qualifies for a reward from the boss. This chest will contain things like crafting materials, skill points, unique skins, lodestones, and more. This change will make champions more rewarding, and will make playing in Orr and Southsun Cove (where events can scale up to add champions) more exciting and fruitful for guilds and players joining together in the open world.”

Dungeon Complete Bonus Rewards (B-)

“In order to make playing all of our unique dungeons more rewarding, we’ll give you a bonus gold reward for each dungeon path you complete each day. Coins will be removed from the current bosses (replaced by the champion reward box listed above) to coincide with this bonus payout for completing each path. Completion rewards will be guaranteed, and we’ll vary the amount of gold earned based on difficulty and length of each dungeon path.”

New Crafting Material Rewards (A)

We’ll also add a new set of account-bound crafting materials to the game. You’ll receive these materials as guaranteed rewards once per day per unique location for completing content within a category of gameplay in Guild Wars 2.

Account Magic Find (A+)

You can improve your account magic find through the account achievement reward system and from consumable items found in game. As your magic find increases, it will require more consumables to keep raising it higher. In the near future, we’ll detail the system we’ll use to replace the existing magic find items. Our goal will be to have as little disruption as possible to those who currently own items with a magic find stat on them.”

Salvaging Fine and Masterwork Items (A-)

“Otherwise known as blues and greens, we want to give more reason to care about these item types when they drop. When the account magic find system is implemented, there will be a chance you can acquire account magic find consumables from salvaging both fine and masterwork items.”

Crafting Taken to 500! (A+)

“At 500, crafters will be able to craft ascended weapons and armor. Once you reach 500, a new tier of crafting materials will be available to you; this new tier of materials will be made by combining lower tier materials. This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity.”

Legendary Gear and Precursors (D)

“We aren’t quite ready to go into all the details here, but what I can say is you will see a specific way to build precursor items on your way to a legendary. On top of this, you’ll also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013. Building your precursor will require a large amount of the new crafting material rewards listed above, 500 in crafting, and likely a combination of other items earned for completing more specific content in the game. In addition, we’ll also improve the functionality of legendaries, allowing you to set their stats when out of combat to any stat combo available, so you don’t need to transmute stat changes for legendaries. Legendary gear will remain with the same tier of stats as ascended gear and will not be made more powerful than other gear, it will simply be slightly more convenient since it will no longer need transmutations to change stats.”

I wanted to take a second to do a quick reflection on the content delivered by ANET in regards to Colin Johanson’s post “Looking Ahead : Guild Wars 2 in 2013” on July 18, 2013. You guys must not be reading the same blog I am…

See: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

Some quotes from there:

“and discuss in more detail some of the systems you’ll see in the second half of 2013.” <- Specifically stated we will see these things in 2013

“We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them.”

-Specifically stating these will be NEW skills and traits, not reworks and balance.

“These skills and traits will be designed to be balanced with the existing skills/traits we currently have in the game, and will simply compliment and expand the range of abilities and tactics available to each profession.”

- further proof these will be new skills. Also the new healing skill does not fit the requirement of expanded range of abilities and tactics to each profession.

“On top of this, you will (emphasis mine) also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013.

-straight up promise of new legendary weapons in 2013.

“The addition of new skills and traits on a regular basis will of course mean expanded variety of abilities, builds, and tactics in PvP as well. As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP”

-in case there was any doubt that the new skills/traits they mentioned have not been added this further confirms it.

“adding new map types, adding the ability to gain legendary weapon skins in PvP, providing additional rewards…”

- legendary weapons in PvP is indeed in there too

And finally they do say:

“As always, the content above is subject to change as we test and iterate on these systems.”

Notice however they say the content, not the timing is subject to change. Therefore we can reasonable expect these items to be in game by the end of the year. I’m sorry if expecting the devs to deliver what they promised makes me some sort of entitled whiner… but I just consider that good business practice.

yeah, that was posted in july, and if you followed the forums, you’d know they mentioned set backs.

I like playing devil’s advocate and you make it sound “oh so simple”. Humor us, link the threads where ANET was so kind to detail these delays for countless items.

Correct.

And that is a well thought decision I should say.

Players will have finished the content by then . I’d say at that point it’s more of a review than a preview, kind of pointless. On the upside, fits well with the patch theme.. pointless!

Zerg guardian, ptv or clerics?

in Guardian

Posted by: Vincent Von Demetri.1450

Vincent Von Demetri.1450

PTV or cleric works well in zerg. Empowering might isn’t the best way to survive because you’re left standing on one spot, but is a good way to buff your team when you stack again before pushing. Ah is really good for zerg versus zerg since it heals you, and your main way to heal your team is your mighty blow on waterfields, but you won’t really need to have it.

I’d go with 0/0/30/30/10 – a trusted yet oldy staff guardian build.

Another is 0/0/20/30/20 – so you can get the cleansing from virtues.

The TPVP bunker cleric build is also popular now – 0/0/10/30/30

And if you’re still confused, go with the good ol – 0/5/30/30/5

Since when do you have to stand in one spot to use empowering might..? o_O

Possible Solution to Broken League System

in WvW

Posted by: Vincent Von Demetri.1450

Vincent Von Demetri.1450

I’m going to propose a hypothetical World vs World League Season, with entirely arbitrary server names and all the jazz to demonstrate a possible solution to ANET’s infamously broken league system which is dead before arrival.

PS – To the developers, it should have been obvious from the get-go that a round robin system blows for matching up very unmatched servers. This example demonstrates that servers can still have fun in a league where the match-ups are not necessarily even.

Here’s the idea, match servers up on the weekly basis in the league based on the points earned from the previous week. We already know 1st place = 5 pts, 2nd place = 3 pts, 3rd place = 1 pt. With that being said, see below.

Example -
- 9 Servers total (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I)
- Assume: Tier 1 always beats Tier 2. Tier 2 always beats Tier 3. Tier 3 puts up with the game.

So then,
Tier 1 = A, B, C
Tier 2 = D, E, F
Tier 3 = G, H, I

Week 1 Matchups: (Fair! Yay!)
A > B > C
D > E > F
G > H > I
Week 1 Scores:
A = 5, D = 5, G = 5
B = 3, E = 3, H = 3
C = 1, F = 1, I = 1
Week 2 Matchups: (Imbalanced! No!)
A > D > G
B > E > H
C > F > I
Week 2 Scores:
A = 10, D = 8, G = 6
B = 8, E = 6, H = 4
C = 6, F= 4, I = 2
Week 3 Matchups: (Less imbalanced! Yay!)
A > B > D
C > E > G
F > H > I
Week 3 Scores:
A = 15, B = 11, D = 9
C = 11, E = 9, G = 7
F = 9, H = 7, I = 3
Week 4 Matchups: (Wow! Even again, math works!)
A > B > C
D > E > F
G > H > I
Week 4 Scores:
A = 20, B = 14, C = 12
D = 14, E = 12, F = 10
G = 12, H = 10, I = 4
Week 5 Matchups: (Another even matchup!)
A > B > D
C > E > G
F > H > I

Okay, I don’t think I need to go much further with this demonstration to show that this works. Here’s the great benefits of it as compared to the currently proposed system.

- No round robin. Teams that are low ranks don’t get squashed week in and week out. Instead, they get the opportunity to “race alongside the big boys” throughout the entire thing. Heck, a low server MIGHT even stand a chance at winning the league given they win the majority of “their” matchups.

- No griefing. The matchups are relatively equal after they stabilize and prevents the big ranked servers from rolling face on the lower ones for several weeks straight. This would encourage people to get in there and TRY.

- Dynamic matching. My system assumes that the highest rank wins… always. Albiet a good assumption, we know that there is often upsets within Tiers itself. This shakes up my model even more and gives opportunities to WIN the league within your own tier. IE – underdogs have the opportunity to win.

Thoughts? ANET, what do you think? Pretty fricken simple to do, pretty bullet proof.

Hahaha, this made me lmao. Thanks!

Am I missing it?

First off let me congratulate you guys on a world first! However, I’m somewhat concerned watching the video in the methods used to complete it. It seems that there were several boss mechanics that just turned out to not be all that important, IE – there was no effort to jump over his wave attacks. I think the bigger concern (hint hint ANET hint hint) is that watching this video, the only successful way to complete this content is to apply zerg tactics to a maximum. How are smaller servers going to stand a chance in completing this?

Honestly, ANET is the worst prepared developer for patches. I’ve gotten disconnected with no ability to return to overflows 5 times in a row now. I am unable to complete the content due to ANET’s inability to plan content in advance.

And yet it IS working, at least for some servers.
We have had way better match-ups most of the time since the new system was added for one.

Just because it doesn’t work well for your server doesn’t mean it don’t work well overall.

You literally just provided my own counter-argument. Just because it works well for your server doesn’t mean it works well for everyone else. Infact, it isn’t working well for MOST players.

- Quaggans?
“I was so surprised. But it makes perfect sense. Because they’re quaggans—no one would ever expect them to attack. I’m no military strategist, but I think that’s brilliant.”

Is this the future of GW2 in terms of WvW? This is perhaps one of the worst mechanics I have yet to see for matchmaking opponents. The tiers are imbalanced beyond belief, and lower tiered servers are constantly suffering it out for weeks in terribly imbalanced matchups. ANET, is this what you intended with the new matchmaking system?

Primeval Dynasty [pDyn] recruiting on CD!

in Looking for...

Vincent Von Demetri.1450

I’m Vincent Von Demetri of Primeval Dynasty [pDyn] and I’m here to give a quick breakdown of what we’re about and what we’re looking for in our membership.

In short, we are a true collaborative effort on the Crystal Desert server. Our guild originally started as the merging of several smaller guilds on the Crystal Desert server back in the early fall, notably including The Battousai [bSai] and Sanguiphoria [Sang]. However, at this point, our members no longer associate ourselves with our past tags, we’re all Primeval Dynasty [pDyn]! We’ve got a rather small community and work on a system of trust and respect. We are always looking for players who want to join our efforts and become a part of our community, particularly, we are always welcoming to guilds that wish to be a part of our collaboration. We are currently looking to rebuild our community and re-establish ourselves on the server, so we are actively looking for those with the mentality to lead and develop not only themselves, but others. Our primary unlocks of interest are: Guild Bounties, Guild Treks, Guild Rushes, Guild Stash, and Guild Treasure Trove.

If you have any questions, or think there is anything worthwhile to mention here, please feel free to ask or comment! If you’re interested in joining, please contact Vincent Von Demetri.1450 in-game or via the forums!

New matchup system (official info)

I have a couple of serious questions.
1. Did the person that came up with the math for this graduate from high school.
2. To prove it, please upload a copy of your high school diploma.

How about just a copy of their resume. I don’t see his high school experience on there. Hopefully the other stuff can count as relevant experience for your assessment.

http://www.glicko.net/cv.html

While the Glicko system is a staple of chess rankings and many other ranking systems, I think it is worth saying that the implementation of a tool is more important than the tool itself. This is where the famous phrase “The right tool for the job” comes in. For example, the screwdriver and hammer are both time tested tools, both are proven to be successful, but each has a very specific application. If I was trying to torque a screw, I wouldn’t want to use a hammer. Get the picture Jon? Someone’s qualifications don’t indicate the success of a system and it’s implementation. I’m by no means saying that the Glicko system isn’t the right application, because, well, I don’t know whether it is or isn’t. It doesn’t take a statistician however to say that the current ranking system is entirely broken… the biggest problem is that the servers are not all on equal footing. Why not create a system that encourages players to spread out to various servers… for example, why not control the maximum amount of players in WvW for one server by applying a cap based on the standard deviation of the lowest server? This would allow for some level of control, but won’t entirely prevent one team from outmatching another (by more than a standard deviation).

Even though this was the creator of the glicko system, are they using it for GW2? Do you not think Mark Glickman could of possibly create a system specifically for WvW.

Glickman does not work for ANET. They are using his Glicko rating system, which was not specifically developed for GW2.

Add in some sort of mode where waves of enemies attack a fortified structure, perhaps a guild hall, that players can upgrade and defend. Make loot scale to higher rarity with higher wave levels, and make monsters scale to the number of players. Simple enough.

Impossible WvW Exploration

Vincent Von Demetri.1450

Yeah, this has been a longstanding problem in my opinion. I think the better fix is that the exploration points be removed from WvW all together. However, then you get the lash back from the community for removing something challenging that they had to put up with. There’s no winning with everyone in regards to this. :/

The Great WvW Update?

in WvW

Posted by: Vincent Von Demetri.1450

Vincent Von Demetri.1450

I just wonder who thought that WvW players wanted “new abilities” to be able to “take less damage from guards”. Honestly, who was the one that developed that idea? Did they ever play WvW? I imagine it probably went a bit like this:

Yes, let’s add things the players really want… like a progression system that involves rankings that reflect nothing of actual skill, but entirely of time invested. It will make it easier for them to exploit already broken mechanics! Yes, that is a good idea.

I’m just surprised that this is there response to a very broken part of the game, where players have remained patient for months with promises of legitimate fixes. I would be ashamed to have claimed and hyped this up. I honestly couldn’t be more disappointed in the way the “Great WvW Update” is being handled. Literally the most hyped up piece of junk to date.

PvE or GTFO is basically what this patch means.

But don’t worry, one of the new content updates is heralds! Because those aren’t already in the game! facepalm

Useless progression system + Culling fixes… that’s it? Seriously? The culling fixes aren’t something that should be advertised as new content, that’s a fix to something that has been broken since Day 1. It should have been fixed before any “costumes” or “bags of treats” were added in. I couldn’t be more disappointed considering how much ANET hyped up the WvW content for February March. Seriously a huge let down from the WvW devs who talked this up, nothing more than a carrot on a stick.

Our guild is looking for some ways to raise money (besides donations) to help fund giveaways, pay for our website and pay for our Teamspeak server. I am just really looking for a developer, or someone more familiar with the Terms of Service to identify to me if doing a “guild raffle” on donated items in-game would be against the Terms of Service? I don’t want to violate any rules or anything, so just looking for some insight on this.

I was hoping perhaps you could make a sketch of my Guardian? I absolutely love the sketches you’ve done so far and I’d love to have one as my desktop, or perhaps to get framed or something. They all look great! I mostly play a tank role in my groups, and I was hoping perhaps you could do something divine, yet with a twisted “dark” side. I had envisioned the Guardian kneeling down but perhaps with like a demonic apparition hanging over his back? That would be absolutely awesome. However, anything would be cool, just do him justice! Thanks in advance!
