It’s really embarrassing when I hit S/D #3 twice expecting LS to proc but my enemy blocks and I just end up twirling around them.
Ah. I haven’t had the chance to play today. Looks like shortbow is back on the menu.
I can’t find this in the patch notes. Did they announce it somewhere else?
The stigma against condi DB thieves stems from their ability to pull off heavy condi damage with one button, while retaining high survival capabilities. This is mostly a difficulty in PvP where you have to match or exceed their evades and conditions on a point.
In WvW anyone with mobility and a strong ranged weapon can kite and take out a DB thief, but if they have dire they can (sometimes) afford to make a few mistakes and survive bursts until their CDs pop. Most D/D thieves doing this are going to be taking dire. This is not really the case with D/P and P/P thieves, who can be taken down quickly in between stealths/bursts due to their glassy stats. P/P has a worst time of it in any game mode now that everyone carries reflects and they have no real defense/kiting that doesn’t eat up initiative for their Unload.
Now I’ll sure show all those D/P thieves that can outstealth me.
Maybe it’s not just revenant. I had a ranger shooting me through the walls at the northern EBG keep a couple nights ago as well.
You can be: D/P, DD, or dead.
I’ve been torn on signet of agility for a while. I like the endurance refill, but I mostly take it for the condition cleanse. I’m not sure the single cleanse is very useful anymore, though.
I swapped out all my armor for Valkyrie pieces since* I wasn’t doing much damage* anyways…
That’s the source of your problem — not doing much damage. So what are you doing? Slowly dying?
Without info on your build nor your playstyle, how do you expect us to help?
It’s more along the lines of quickly dying. This is my build, for reference.
I don’t really want to buy HoT right now. I tried necro and it was actually alright, but it doesn’t really afford the same feeling as thief.
I like to think I was proficient at using S/D thief in WvW roaming before. Now I’m noticing I kind of suck. It takes a thousand perfectly timed butt-pokes to kill most classes, and if I mess up they can usually down me with one skill. Or a couple auto attacks. I swapped out all my armor for Valkyrie pieces since I wasn’t doing much damage anyways, but I still feel like a chew toy. Besides L2P, what can I do to get better?
Thieves and mesmers that slam me with confusion. Especially both at once. x_x
I just want Power of Inertia back.
Thanks for all your help guys. I guess it seems like an awkward weapon combo, but I’m glad to hear it’s not obsolete. Am thinking of using pack runes with it.
Is axe a good weapon for a power build? I assumed chillblains/dark pact would be enough to keep enemies still for dagger builds, but I see how it leaves you kind of reliant on staff.
So I’m new to necro, but I’ve played some WvW before. I don’t see alot of dagger necros and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some d/d roaming builds? Thanks for any help rendered.
Might stacking on evade for the acro traitline.
I just got back after a long hiatus and it’s happening to me too. Get a few seconds of input lag, and during a few fights in WvW it jumped to 2000-3000. Ran a few other MMOs and they seemed to run without lag.
First, you introduced the NPE, which was an amazing update because following coherent storylines and having access to five whole weapon skills at once was really difficult. Sometimes I got migraines while playing because thinking about that kind of stuff was so difficult. I wrongly assumed nothing could top that update. Maybe you guys would remove runes and sigils so that we wouldn’t have to worry about people turning into mist or summoning OP birds. Something small like that. But this…this new update proved me wrong. Now I don’t have to worry about warriors and other thieves running around with swiftness. Making sure I kept cripple on them while they leaped around was really strenuous. I’m glad all those movement skills are normalized now, because thinking about them was really hard! The new trait overhaul is equally amazing. I logged in, only to realize that some of my new hero points had already been assigned for me. This was very helpful, as I otherwise would have had to click buttons and figure things out on my own which is very painful. That would hurt my brain. Then, after examining the traits I realized I didn’t have to roll around on the floor to stack might or avoid damage. I didn’t even have to take acrobatics, because it was horrible! My health was so low, and the vigor gains were so poor, I could just spec into doing as much damage as possible. Now when I find someone in WvW, we just use our most powerful moves and see who dies first. It’s alot like Pokemon, which has the best combat system ever. So thank you for catering to me, Anet. Choosing builds is really hard, and having you choose for me is just splendid.
Our new elite specialization. “Guardian Hunter”. Gahaha. I’m going to cry now.
And in return us thieves get a trait that breaks blocks and stacks vulnerability on hitting a blocking enemy, right?
Simplify everything!!!
Criticizing a game means you hate it now. Sad life.
Keep Disabler. Horkhorkhork.
Would be cool if the one handed sword looked more like the great sword instead of…some shapeless glass thing.
Maybe you should have given him a few minutes of burn in retaliation for that poison.
I’ve been having pretty bad lag today as well, which is making dungeons/PvP/WvW largely unplayable. Ping sits at around 400, but it’s spiked up to 2000ish.
Can you imagine just how much better his logic probably sounds in French? As English is not his native tongue, his English-arguments that sound borderline insane and poorly thought probably sound incredibly eloquent and well put in French.
Not joking or poking fun, as he knows +1 more languages than I do, and I definitely respect that.
Perhaps. But I think you’re writing off a little too much.
It’s not only his arguments, it’s also what he wants or sees as balanced/fixed, take for example his suggestions for trait remakes:

I don’t think a switch between languages would make them any better….
After reading the linked post I feel violated.
Dragonhunter makes no sense as a specialization name and Chronomancer does. The Mesmer elite specialization name does make sense. Why? Because you specialize as a Chronomancer to manipulate time. Do you specialize as a Dragonhunter to hunt dragons? No. You will hunt and fight all types foes, not just “big game.”
Also, there is nothing innately Guardian about being a Dragonhunter. Why couldn’t a Warrior or Ranger hunt dragons? There’s not really any reason Dragonhunter fits the Guardian anymore than it could fit those professions. Why wouldn’t an armored master of combat or master of the nature want to hunt big game? They are arguably even more suited to the name than Guardians.
Personally I would prefer Sentinel as it fits the theme of defending from a range with longbow and setting traps.
Edit: Also, lol at the OPs argument. “These names are used elsewhere at some place and some time: therefore they are bad.” What?
Agreed. My Necro hunts dragons. Isn’t she a Dragonhunter already?
The two words mashed into one name doesn’t work – at all.
As I said in a nother post… My Engineer is a Warrior for my borderland in WvW but I don’t go complain that there is a Warrior class in this game.
Edit:
I am happy with the current name.
New Weapon: The bow – one of the greatest, most iconic hunting tools in the history of the human race
New Skill category: Traps – one of the most essential hunting tools in the history of the human race.
The Enemy: Elder Dragons – the ultimate peril of the world of Tyria. If we do not strive against them with our every breath, all will die.
New Profession: The Dragon Hunter – “I take the tools of the hunter and turn them against the foes that must be fought. For the good of all.”
The name wasn’t picked out of a hat… Its a graceful bit of shorthand both summing up and evoking many elements the profession encompasses.
+1
So well written and true.
Second Edit:
The problem is that the name Dragonhunter can be given to any of the profession and make skills around it.
Whereas Chronomancer… It can only be given to Mesmer, and Mesmer only, no other profession fits with the Chronomancer description at all, and it makes it unique to that profession.
But everyone can call themselves a Dragonhunter.
Again… My Engineer is a Warrior for my borderland in WvW but I don’t go complain that there is a Warrior class in this game. We are all fighting a War so we are all Warriors.
I Disagree-
We are all fighters: Fighters fight because they fight
Fighters Do Not Sacrifice Their Lives For Others
Warriors Sacrifice Their Lives For Others
Fighters Run From Death
Warriors Run Toward Death
That Is What Make A Warrior
That Is Why The Role Only Fit For The Warrior
That Is Why Not Everyone Can Be A Warrior
Yes! All classes other than warrior need to be the new “fighter” class. This class will just canoodle around in the back with bows and rifles. Then there won’t be any stealth, and no stealth means no hackers! Because all hackers are thieves and all thieves are hackers! No more 60k backstabs! Warriors would finally be able to faceroll valiantly into battle the way they were meant to.
I usually don’t bother swapping out of my S/D WvW setup for dungeons and still do decent damage. I don’t think most groups care, unless you’re spamming shortbow AA.
I think the perfect way to start HoT would be as a male norn, in Kasmeer’s bikini.
World vs. wood rune.
Isn’t that human thief the same one from the other cheater/hacker thread?
Would you care to elaborate? Considering they’ve explicitly stated there will be no new tiers of gear, no new levels, what makes you think they will ever be pay to win?
Pay to wing*
In the future, I think I can see GW2 going pay to wing.
When you have something vaguely weapon shaped in your hand and start performing the auto attack of your favorite class.
When I beat Liadri in the first Queen’s Arena after what felt like a thousand tickets. kitten . My heart was racing and I sat there for a second in complete disbelief. That was probably the only time I thoughtv"Wow… Guild wars is really hard".
And then everyone will have a giant southsun Kasmeer on their heels.
Are we looking at the GW2 logo?
Yes, you should unless you were too distracted by “something” else
Stereotypical Chinese gamer certainly isn’t distracted.
Don’t gamble. Kill things instead.
Are you calling me fat???
No XD just the first thing I thought of at the mention of more ninja weapons.
I main a thief and I can’t PvP for my life.
The reaper just looks like the standard harvesting sickle.
Pets are pretty useful for detonating mines against the deadeye guy.
Maybe she’s a robot, and likes watching the mortals suffer.
Spot on. My character is an Asura guardian. I wasn’t sure if it was a game issue since my game has been having some other graphic bugs but those are mostly just splotchy textures. These bugs happen all the time but only the weapon problem seems to be permanent. It happens with greatswords, swords, maces, spears, and I’m assuming every other weapon, although those are the only weapons I use.
After the newest update, instead of my weapons appearing in my hand when drawn, they are stuck in my avatar’s forearm. Also, after traveling via Asura Gate, Waypoint, or even logging in, my character’s head looks like it’s jammed into his torso. They’re not big problems and don’t hinder my gameplay, but they get a lil’ annoying. I just wanted to know if anyone else was having this issue.
