From Guild Wars 1.
That is all.I am talking exactly about this. Can we have option to stand straight at least? o.O
I think the problem there might be that the GW1 charr with an more upright stance aren’t just variations of the normal charr, they have their own model, with its own mesh. That’s what allows them to have that more upright stance, they are designed to look that way from the start. GW2 charr aren’t. You can’t just go and try to make the model look that way, when it wasn’t intended to work that way from the beginning, so actually achieving that would most likely require a complete rework of the current model or the implementation of a new one, with new animations.
I honestly doubt that’ll happen :/
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Im more curious if they could give us a option to run on 2 legs. I like running on 4 legs but without a 25%+ speed increase it really looking silly.
Draw your weapon.

You’re welcome :P Aside from that nitpick that guide might actually be rather helpful for me, considering I still don’t have a level 80 character and therefore only crappy 15 slot bags. Might use it at some point :)
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
You spelled “weapons” as “wepeons” in your title card.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
There are already kinda different animations for each class. Thieves, for instance, vanish in stealth for a short time (at least animation wise). Or drop caltrops, with the correct talent. Don’t see anything that would speak against more animations, but… I guess you can only animate a dodge so many different times. :X Especially considering that it needs to be a relatively short animation.

Punctuation is usually helpful in making a sentence easily read- and understandable.
To answer your question: No, you can’t. Guild Wars 2 is more a traditional MMO than GW1 ever was, classes can’t be combined. You choose a class and stick with it, the only thing you can fiddle around with are your class skills and traits. And, of course, a number of race specific skills, depending on which race you pick.

Am I the only one that smells the stench of troll-sweat in this thread?
in actuality, the dungeon community actually does use AP as a filter for parties, so the main difference is he is asking this question to the larger community. Basically even if this is a troll, it represents an existing situation that is thought to be somewhat true.
Eh, yeah. In WoW they had gearscore for that. People will always gravitate towards stupid number based systems. Easy way to figure out which people I don’t want to play with, I’d say.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Hrm. Why not just let your friend try out the classes for himself? When I started playing my first MMO all those years ago I found myself gravitating towards the class that I actively played for most of my MMO time, simply because I liked the description of the class and had fun with it from the start. GW2 shouldn’t be much of a difference there.
Let him experience the game for himself. Help him when he needs help, otherwise let him make his own experiences. The first time playing an MMO is a precious thing, don’t ruin it by trying to give him too much help.

The Asura will enslave all other races. It’s just a matter of time.
The Bookahs just don’t know that they are already enslaved.

I guess he has always had a light brown skin. Kind of interesting. I hadn’t noticed that before.
His left arm looks really strange in that picture.

Because if I say “claw”, half of the Charr community will turn around, thinking I called their name.
There’s an idea for a new Char( r)-name – Jor Magclaw!

Mainstream emo crap. Life is awesome kids.
Because wanting white wings is in no way mainstream, no sir :P

Why do we need devs to come and answer everything for us? The real question is, why the hell would they only release it for one day, missing out on loads of people who are already throwing the money at their screens?
Use your brains, people…
Same reason why SWTOR only sold black dyes at the market for really short amounts of time. Or why real world companies create a very limited supply of certain goods – to create exclusivity and therefore a higher demand when they put them into the shop again in a few months, for a higher price.
People like status symbols. Therefore it’s not at all brainless to assume that arenanet might plan on creating a status symbol with those wings.

Oh great. It has begun.
Well, time to live the hermit’s life in the Hinterlands until this dies down. Or dies off. Either way.
I feel you. Not getting them either, not the look for me. But I guess it makes some people happy, so who am I to judge.

I have to confess, I’m terrible when it comes to hardware and the like. So I can’t really help you there – but you may want to try this website: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

Eh, yeah. At least auto-attacks with your fists would be nice, and be it just for roleplaying purposes. Shouldn’t be too hard to implement either.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Stop making outfits! We cant pick and choose pieces to match with our armor sets, it’s all or nothing, and LOTS of people don’t like that.
That’s nice and all (and quite honestly, I agree), but as long as there’s a market for it (as in, enough people actually buying the stuff) I kinda doubt that you can convince arenanet to just… stop doing it.
Best way is to vote with your wallet and just not buy the outfits.

This was incredibly difficult to read. I presume english isn’t your first language, but even so – a bit more effort to make what you wrote understandable would be nice. Hint: It isn’t my first language either.
1.Flying mounts(Horse,Dragon)
Parkour Association task using the practice has not lost horse Jumping puzzle entertainment
That would likely require a complete rework of the game, therefore unlikely. Mounts aren’t really needed, travelling is already pretty quick as it is.
2. New World King
Each map can have hope that the king of the world
… what?
3.+ 25% movement speed
This should be the basis for the game
Should the characteristics or by skill runes to achieve
(Rune of the Traveler) (Drop Stimulant) (Power Shoes)
Most classes have an option to achieve passive swiftness already.
4. dungeon currency
Hope PVE also available currency
Some players just want to enjoy the game a man
… what?
5.Karma
All materials exchange
Why? That would devalue crafting materials and, in essence, crafting as a whole.
Can’t say much to six and seven.
8.Individual cottages
I hope there is a high degree of freedom of the hut (ex: Minecraft)
Minecraft like stuff will never happen in GW2, simply because the engine doesn’t support it. It just won’t work. Housing could potentially be nice though, especially for roleplaying purposes.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Point two, really. The idea of the storyline is nice and all (and it’s not too badly written, I think) but it has zero effects once the story tier in question is completed. It doesn’t matter that my Charr is Iron legion if she meets other Iron Legion Charr after tier 1 of the personal story, they will still slowly explain to her what the Iron Legion is, as if she never heard of it.
The main issue that I had with the personal story (bearing in mind that I haven’t completed it yet – I’m more of a casual GW2 player, I guess. Played since release, but never for longer than a few months at once, then I took long breaks) is that it a) follows a pretty foreseeable pattern. You get uh… 3? quests, then one quest where you decide something, often with really weird decisions where it simply doesn’t make much sense to decide between the two instead of, well, doing both simultaneously. They cite “lack of resources” as the reason there, but that’s only a thinly veiled excuse, the only resource the other party in those decisions is lacking is me, the player character. So when I have the option to either help the durmand priory with research or debrief an order of whispers spy, I really don’t think that this is a decision that needs to be made. Do both. Send people to debrief the spy while doing the research, or vice versa. It’s really not that compelling a decision.
Secondly (which would be b) I guess) the decisions have barely any effect, save for short “shock” value. Once the tier is done the decisions are forgotten and never brought up again… which is a common problem in story driven MMOs. SWTOR hat the same, most decisions there were purely cosmetical, with the quests still progressing in the same manner.
Ultimately I believe that taking the personal story out and making it a story that is experienced by everyone can be very much a good thing, mainly because it allows the writers to focus on one singular thread of story and hopefully flesh that out a bit more than they did with the personal story. Choices would be nice, but since they already had little effect save from “do mission a or b, but you will win nontheless” I don’t think there will be much of a difference here.

Hmm interesting, makes sense. I personally rate the intelligence of a race by their technological advancement.
That is a bit of a bad indicator though. A race isn’t less intelligent just because it doesn’t have high technology. Real life example. Native americans were at no point less intelligent than europeans, despite being technologically way less advanced. The main reason for the lack of advancement there was that they didn’t need said advancement, therefore they didn’t go in that direction.
Same is true to an even greater extend in Tyria. Sylvari (for example) may seem less technologically advanced than the other races, but that’s mainly due to the fact that they have other means of achieving the same goal. Namely magic, or the fact that they can simply grow what they need.
Experience, knowledge, technological advancement – all that has little to do with ‘Intelligence’. Lack of knowledge does not mean lack of intelligence, same as possession of knowledge doesn’t mean that one is particularly intelligent. I possess knowledge of things Leonardo Da Vinci couldn’t possibly know, but that doesn’t mean that I’m more intelligent than he was, just that I had access to more advanced knowledge than he did ;)

In this thread: People taking their played race way too seriously :P
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Short answer: Everyone for themselves.
Long answer: Immersion is a bit of a difficult subject, some people have no trouble accepting even the more outlandish things like bows that shoot rainbow-unicorms, while others are already bothered by quaggan backpacks.
Personally I think that a lot of things you can get as style items don’t really fit into the world all too well, mainly because arenanet doesn’t seem to pay much attention to actually explaining them in their games lore. But being a roleplayer for many years (although mainly in world of warcraft, not in guild wars) I got really good at just ignoring things that don’t fit into the world ;)
However, the question that I’m mainly asking myself here is… why are you creating a thread asking about your immersion, when your main goal seems to be just complaining about some lacking animations?
/edit: Also, why the hell does the ‘always disable smileys’ thing only work every other time? <-<
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Personally I’m a big fan of the Lionguard weapon models… and the axe is no exception.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
is it a bug so arena net can fix it? i can do research later to see, if want me to?
It’s not a bug. He was trying to buy human cultural armor with his charr, which isn’t possible. You can only buy cultural armor with the race said armor belongs to. Sylvari can only buy sylvari cultural armor, charr only charr armor etc, pp.
Not a bug, not racism, simple game design choice.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
(edited by Wylf.2586)
Because having the choice between skimpy and non skimpy armor is always better than being forced to only use one of the two. Simple. You don’t want it, don’t wear it. More choice is good, less choice is bad.
But how far should we drag that?
Should I be allowed to have a completely invisible armor-set (and as such run around completely naked)? Or an armor-set with certain symbols and such?
Armors should make sense for the situation, and in a world with massive murderous beasts and bandits everywhere running around with what is little more than a bikini makes no sense whatsoever.
The armor makes sense in the context of the world, considering that armors like this have been used since guild wars one shrug As I said, personally I’m not a fan of it, but these armors have been part of the game-world since the beginning.
As for the ‘making sense’ part – eh. Just look at human history, numerous ‘barbarians’ were known for charging into battle while being barely clothed. Sense had little to do with it in that regard, it was more a case of lacking finances (armor is expensive) and general customs – showing your bravery, honoring your gods, that sort of thing.
Add a world in which magic is commonplace to that and I have absolutely no trouble accepting skimpy armor, especially considering that most of those skimpy armor sets are used by magic users. And even the medium leather armor thingies are easily explained by ‘magic protection, woohoo’.
Naked armor or “armor with certain symbols” (I believe I have a good idea what you mean with that) I personally would find inapproprate. The former on grounds of ‘eh, that’s just boring’, the later because those symbols (if you indeed mean the kind I have in mind) are actually banned in certain countries, namely the ones that are most infamous for using them.
It’s perfectly fine not liking skimpy armor. As I said, I’m in the same boat there, more or less. But do we really need to turn this into a crusade?
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Why do there NEED to be skimpy armors? And why is it more okay to want to add more than to want to remove those that are already there?
Because having the choice between skimpy and non skimpy armor is always better than being forced to only use one of the two. Simple. You don’t want it, don’t wear it. More choice is good, less choice is bad. :)
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Yeah, my point was more that people can, in fact, dislike skimpy armor without the whole ‘stop objectifying women’ thing. Your post kinda made the argument that people who say that they dislike it are just pretending, that bugged me a bit.
Hence why I added that disliking something doesn’t equal wanting it gone, at least in my case.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
I suppose, but I still feel it is wrong to pretend to not like skimpy outfits just because it’s suddenly cool to be all “stop objectifying women” because it’s a trending thing right now.
Eh. Personally I’m not too much of a fan of skimpy outfits. Apart from my sylvari lady (who is wearing tier 1 cultural armor, which is technically skimpy I guess) all my female toons are more or less fully clothed as much as that is possible. So… I would approve of more options for fully clothed female characters. Not everyone likes the same things.
However, that doesn’t mean that I would want skimpy options taken away. Personally I’m not using them all too often, but I’m fine with them being there. Less customization options are always bad, more are always good, in my opinion.

You mean it isn’t reasonable that I can’t even make 1 soft wood plank per tree I chop down? / sarcasm.
About as reasonable as it is to go around chopping down saplings instead of fully grown trees. :P
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
It’s both a good and a bad thing, I feel. On one hand it is, of course, nice to have lots of diversity, so everyone can have a look that he likes.
On the other hand I am occasionally baffled by how little some looks seem to actually fit into the world. Quaggan backpacks and the like, for example, don’t feel like something that would fit into Tyria. Or that weird bow that shoots unicorms and leaves behind rainbow horseshoes on the ground.
It’s just… really jarring how little effort seems to have been put into making those looks fit into the actual world.
We never see NPCs running around like this (at least to my knowledge, I might be wrong there), which makes it feel really strange.
That is, however, just a personal nitpick. I still enjoy the variety, I just wish they would put more effort into making said variety actually fit the theme.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
I’m located in the EU and have been playing on an NA server pretty much from the beginning. Never really had any issues with lag. Very, very rarely I will have a short lag spike, but that happens maybe once every few days and could honestly just be a problem with my connection, not the fact that I’m playing on a server that’s located overseas.
So yeah, you should be fine.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
If you are not a member of either of those groups you really should not be buying keys.
Correction: If you are a member of the first group you shouldn’t buy keys either
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
So basically: 9 tomes of knowledge = 1 key?
Thats actually not bad.
You need a free character slot for it though. ._. I never have free character slots. In every MMO I play those slots seem to just magically fill up in a relatively short span of time. O woe is me ;(
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
I only bought one key for gems so far and regretted doing it rather quickly. I agree that they are a waste, if you buy keys for them. Really not worth it.
However, I mostly treat chests and keys as a nice bonus. Occasionally I will get a key through map completion and the like and open one of the boxes that hang around on my bank. Sometimes I get something nice (the most ‘valuable’ things I got were probably a hair style kit and a character rename token – at least I think I got that token out of a box, had it hanging around on my bank for years until I used it yesterday), oftentimes I don’t. But since I don’t spend money on it, it doesn’t matter as much. Just a nice bonus.
Where is the best place to farm keys?
Pretty sure there isn’t one, just a best way to do it – create a new character, bring him to level 10, complete your story quest. That will give you a guaranteed key. Then delete the character and start a new one for another key :p
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Turning off the special effects would possibly even be a good idea in certain fights with tons of people participating :X I imagine performance in large events like, say, the frozen maw would be significantly improved if you’d just disable the flashy parts of combat. Not so much a problem for me (I maintain a stable 10 FPS in those fights :P) but it would be a good idea for people who don’t have the most powerful PCs. shrugs

sometimes people like to roleplay that they are dueling. I dont see a problem with that. its fun actually.
it is in no combat area, should it be too obvious that no combat area mean not using combat skill in no combat area? I do not get it at all.
Example; Would it be ok to roleplay dueling inside civilian area? Why put civilian in area for peace and allow player to use combat skill? peace need quiet, if want use combat skill-go to combat area and make all noise want.
Of course it would be ok. Counter question, how many bar fights do you see happening in the middle of a warzone? Relatively few, I imagine. Usually those happen in civilian areas ;)
That aside, the problem with restricting combat skills is that they are often useful even in non combat situations. The engineers rifle jump thingie for example. I used that quite a few times for reaching vistas. Aside from that multiple classes have active skills that they need to use to gain faster movement speed.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
sometimes people like to roleplay that they are dueling. I dont see a problem with that. its fun actually.
I’m pretty sure kta is referring to people who deliberately disturb roleplayers by standing on top of them and spamming the flashiest skills possible. In World of Warcraft this was sadly quite common as well. Find a pair of roleplayers engaged in a conversation, plant your AoE effects on them, watch as they get more and more annoyed. Alternatively use a large mount and place yourself on top of them. Despicable behaviour, if you ask me.
Also possible with people who aren’t roleplaying, of course.
In any case, I don’t really see how arenanet could restrict stuff like that without fundamentally changing the way the game works.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Meanwhile, no one at anet ever saw a barracuda. That, or they spelled ‘ugly vaguely fish-like thing’ wrong.
Or, hear me out here, they intentionally made both the barracuda and the hyenas look different to their real world counterparts, to further distinguish their world from reality.
Tyria is a world full of dragons, why should their animals look like ours? I see no problem with Tyria-hyenas (or barracudas, for that matter) being different to real ones. There is, of course, a matter of personal taste. If you don’t like how those animals look that’s a perfectly acceptable opinion to have, but I don’t really think “they have never seen a real one” applies here. More likely that it is a deliberate artistic choice.

I reached prime salad level. Lettuce counts are off the charts.
Yeah, I finally reached 35 and got the cultural armor. Woo. Kinda going for an autumn-themed character here, so lots of dark red and brown tones. Possibly not the most interesting look.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
Hrm. I’d say, leave the mask. It just looks silly on a charr, most helmets do in some way. Otherwise it looks alright.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
I… actually created my own sylvari just today. And I’m already a bit frustrated by the lack of really fitting armor, can’t wait to hit 35 to get the first tier of salad dresses
You needn’t wait. You can buy them any time to unlock them to wardrobe, then use transmutation charges to apply them to your armor.
Though then you’ll be using a lot of charges as you gear up over time if you want to keep the look in combat (you can always keep an RP set in your bags to change into when you want to look nice).
Huh, that’s good to know. I think I’ll still wait though, won’t take that long to reach 35 anyways. Already got her to 20 via a writ of experience, so the 15 Levels should easily be doable by just completing all the starting zones.
Nilfa, Asura Thief, Devona’s Rest
What annoys me more is that at least some races (tried it only with Norn recently, to be fair) seem to hold the (one handed) swords in a really weird way, with the hand way below the guard, instead of close to it. Bugged the hell out of me and lead to me quickly deleting my Norn warrior again.
Possible that this was just a problem with the early starter swords though…
