It seems like a bug. I would prefer to be able to party. It made everything much more fun last year, having a group of guildmates instead of random groups.

This is awesome and hilarious. You are THE peakitten but I agree the Chaos of Lyssa would complete better than spinal blades.

I tried more than 30 times with minimal guides aside from Dulfy’s and then found a current all classes video on Reddit which helped me. After adjusting my Guardian’s traits and weapons as well as another 25+ attempts, I finally defeated her with a second remaining.

A bit unfair aren’t we? In order follows my disagreements.
- Too many skills drowned GW1 into an unbelievable imbalanceble game, not making that mistake again is good thing in GW2.
- And in does, KH is for ever changed in a huge way by the events there, LA is another map that most likely will never be the same again, and evidence of everything else can be found around world, right down to the remains of the thumpers across all the maps.
- Theres no gear treadmill on GW2, which is a VERY good thing, but some people like it (like you apparently) and for those Anet has a very clever solution, Fractals and Agony Resistance.
Its something you can work for to get higher and higher to partake in more and more difficult fractals, but at the same time its a stat that won’t affect WvW so everyone can be in a fairly equal ground.
Ultimately, it was always said that GW2 would be about cosmetic, not stats.
- There’s not much to complain here, LS metas for example can be done in 1 or 2 days, what do people expect from that loot chest really? And even a very casual player can do it in less than a week, thanks to the way their achievements are granted anyone can do it, again, what to expect loot wise? Couple of legendaries?
A dungeon path will take about 15~20 minutes, it will give several blue/green items that can be sell or salvaged, a few champ boxes with even more goodies, guarantee gold and tokens to buy exotic lvl 80 gear, again, what else woukd you expect?
- Buys are 100% volunteer, the game doesn’t charge a sub fee and thru LS it delivered (for free, mind you) more than enough content that in any other MMO would have been packed in a paid expansion pack.
Releasing cosmetics on the gem store is NOT a big deal, and a company that allows you to EASILY buy those with in game gold can be called anything but greedy, or after a quick buck.*
The voice of reason! I completely agree with all of these points. ArenaNet has done an awesome job with this game.
The living story point is particulary true: “thru LS it delivered (for free, mind you) more than enough content that in any other MMO would have been packed in a paid expansion pack.”
I can understand the desire for a new continent (Cantha and Elona) but asking for standard and stale boxed content is asinine! I’d prefer a rapidly evolving and changing world that I affect over boxed content that once people run through it, they will be complaining about the “State of the Game” yet again. ArenaNet has done a great job with adding new content and removing it after the event is over while leaving remnants that they occurred. I do not understand how players can ask for “fresh” content when in fact all they want is another add-on which two months after release and doing it 50+ times will be complained about because there isn’t something newer.

$150
- Three infinite gathering tools
- A couple bag slots and bank tabs
- The Permanent Quaggan Finisher
- Zodiac Heavy Armor
- I have also converted some gems to gold.
All worth it. I view it as a way to support ArenaNet and to make the game more exciting in useful ways.

I enjoy playing with large groups of other players. As others have said, there are challenging events that require a large number of players. I enjoy those events and I enjoy running around with a large group of my fellow players (as an army) and decimating everything in our path.

Buy the Intel build. You’ll want more power in the beginning which will save you money in the long run. The AMD build may be cheaper (I made the same mistake) but when it comes to other games, even those you want to try, it may be not enough and you will probably need to spend more money on a new graphics card. Aside from the difference in generation and power between the 560 and 670, the 670 also has an additional gig of ram which will also be handy if you want to play other games.
On some other points, save some money and make some compromises with the SSD and Corsair H100. Are they truly necessary and also swap the 670 for a 760 or 770 depending on the cost.

Great Job ArenaNet!
I’m a fan of the Zodiac Armor. I wasn’t sure which armor set to use on my second Guardian and the Zodiac Armor was released at the perfect time. I think it looks awesome and is an interesting tie into the Canthan lore from Guild Wars: Factions.

My main since the headstart.

I am a huge fan of GW2’s combat system!
The main reason is the combat is FUN!
Fun is different for everyone and this is what I consider fun:
The knowledge that the group I’m with (open world or dungeon) complete any event or dungeon with whatever gear or trait set we want. Everyone in the group is contributing through damage and any buffs they decide to throw out for themselves or the other players.
Not being forced into stat/gear grind 101. I don’t have to use a specific build, armor/weapon set to be effective.
Interactive gameplay, being able to effectively heal myself or others if I choose while also dealing damage and avoiding it through dodging. I dislike the idea of one player standing there absorbing damage while everyone else makes split-second decisions (skill timer watching) which can result in the entire party failing because a skill activation was too early or late.
I know some players enjoying number crunching in regards to stats and favor the challenge (which IMO leads to a large amount of elitism) that comes from traditional MMO concepts. I hate it, I loathe it and the lack of it in the game is the best thing about GW2 (aside from the “no grind” mentality, which needs less grind).
Guild Wars Community member since 2005
My idea of Horizontal Progression (HP) is less time + less grind = more fun. Chris, you and your fellow developers at ArenaNet have done an excellent job with most of the game. I’ll comment on areas that could use improving later in this post.
I thoroughly enjoy reading the ideas of my fellow players. There are many I agree with and close to equal number I disagree with. The execution and potential changes to the formula that made GW2 attractive to play.
I won’t respond directly to members but I’ll outline the general ideas. My goal is to try to represent the group of players that fall in between casual and hardcore.
Lets Go:
I believe that cosmetics are important to HP and more should be added. The Living Story is a fun alternative to expansions and allow many of us earn to achievement points and cosmetic upgrades in a reasonable time frame.
Cosmetics are good and a wardrobe function would be great to view and use the skins from Metas that we have completed. I like the idea of having them added to our Achievements panel.
Dynamic Events: Keep these as the primary means for difficult and rewarding content. This is the reason many of us migrated to the game, open-world spontaneous group play.
Vanquishing: I vote for vanquishing quests or DEs but I submit that we use groups of at least ten players or more but not so difficult they require us to form role-specific groups.
Hard Mode (Dungeons): I vote for HM dungeons but I’m against making them so difficult we need to revert to a soft trinity/specific builds to complete them. I strongly support the play any char and role you want mantra. If we continue to push for role specific content we will limit the openness of the content to all skill levels (except Fractals). We have all seen the “Zerker Only” or class specific requests. Yes, there are other groups we can join but it supports a negative trend of forcing people to use a certain “accepted” class, skill or trait layout. (I rolled a Monk in GW1 and I hated not being able to roll my Warrior (I’d normally get kicked) simply because a group needed a healer instead. )
Mini-slot: As suggested by others a slot in our menu to place a single mini-pet.
Pet Deactivation: Allow Rangers to permanently keep a pet hidden without it popping up when we take damage.
Rewards: I support the idea of all rewards (drops, “exclusive” skins, etc.) being obtainable through open world PvE, WvW, dungeons or Fractals.
The topic of reward issues revolves around Tier 6 materials, Ascended, Pre-Cursors. I’ll put it bluntly since many threads have already touched on this but the drop rates need a major boost.
The TP prices are ridiculous. If we introduce more materials and Pre-Cursors we can balance and better regulate their affordability. It also gives all players a better chance at enjoying all the items the game has to offer without being restricted by RNG or gold.
I’d rather earn T6 mats and a Pre-Cursor through enjoyable gameplay (not a six-month grind or forced dungeon/Fractal crawling). I’m not asking for a ten-part bore-quest but give the CasualCore crowd a reliable way to earn the items necessary to enjoy the highest tier equipment, especially when we are willing to work for it. I think a chain of DEs is a good place for guaranteed drops for mats and a guaranteed/higher chance for a Pre-Cursor.
The two things that are preventing me from completing my Legendary are Charged Lodestones and a Pre-Cursor. I think we need a CDI for whoever is in charge of the horrendous decision of making these rarer than unicorns. Seriously, Chris, my man..talk to someone about increasing the drop rate for these by 1000% ;P.

8.) Our character progression becomes more and more solo and ego-focused, or rather “solo in a big blob of people.” You continue to remove the incentive to play together. The two worst things you’ve done was adding more and more parts for the daily quest to complete which are giving out achievement points. You would be surprised how many people are chasing those points like mad and most of them are better off done alone. The other thing is, you are continuing to alienate bonded players by forcing activities into a non-groupable pvp set.
Please cap the achievement points obtainable for the daily reward chest to 5. The other way would be to remove achievement points from dailies to and monthlies altogether and do that retroactively as well. Completing a daily is not worth mentioning to be an “achievement” at all.
Allow players to group and join an activity as a group. Think of the community based tournaments that would be held. Quarterly Kegbrawl championships are just one of many possibilities. If you even add personal or time-specific leaderboards into those activities, a lot of people would play that more often.
I disagree with this proposal. Achievement points are tied to rewards and already require a significant amount of time to reach each tier. If you limit the number of achievements a player can receive you are hurting the players that are working hard daily to reach those rewards and adding another ridiculous time gate. I completely disagree with trying to force people to play together by enacting a block which doesn’t promote the “play the way you want” mantra. If I want to finish 10 daily achievements or more, every single day then I should be able to.

Is it fair to say that regarding Ascended Gear we would like to see more ways to earn it and in terms of drop rates, a higher percentage chance of acquiring them through this method?
Chris
Alternate methods for acquiring Ascended and Legendary (pre-cursors as well) weapons etc. is something I want. I don’t want a grind or ridiculously hard content (re-vamped teq is not fun) to achieve it but I think open-world group DEs would be a great way to approach it. It will encourage the community to play together more especially those of us with multiple level 80 characters. The crafting process for Legendary weapons require a lot of mats so the drop rate for T6 mats needs a serious increase.

I’m a day-one OG Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 player. I strongly advocate horizontal progression. The main draw for me (and my wife, I got her into the game) to Guild Wars 2 was the idea of playing any mode I wanted, regardless of time spent playing and I would still earn the same rewards as others . The days (or months) of grinding for money, materials and skins were supposed to be gone.
I enjoy Guild Wars 2. The manifesto (I know it isn’t considered meaningful now) highlights every aspect I love about this game.
Here are my suggestions:
1.) Dramatically increase drop rates for T6 mats. I understand not everyone wants a Legendary but for those of us who do, the amount of time, money and mats necessary to craft one is already high. The materials should not be difficult to come by and we shouldn’t have to continuously repeat dungeons, champ farm, etc. (read as grind) to gather the materials necessary. The RNG with other aspects of Legendary creation is already more than painful enough.
2.) Cosmetics (Skins and Dyes) should be allowed to be stored and reused infinitely by characters (I’m talking 50 slots because we all know this would be a gem store item). However, when a person adds either to their storage container they will become Account Bound.
3.) Maintain the effectiveness of every profession in all situations and fights. Continue to keep the game from the creep of a “soft trinity” or “this class/build/armor set only” type of game.
My idea of progression is being able to utilize and make the most of everything I’ve earned in the game. The cycle of reacquiring items over and over does not feel like progression, it is regression and a grind, which does not make the game fun.
I’d like to thank everyone at ArenaNet for doing their best to create an enjoyable game. I know this is your passion and your work based on your thoughts, ideas and feelings. There is only so much you can do to keep the playerbase happy and no matter what you do someone will be upset. I understand balance is difficult to maintain and constantly tweaked. However, do not make content more difficult to appease the small group of players that want this game to be something it wasn’t intended to be.

It seems a bit odd, but I’d love to have the ability to have no pet at all for the ranger, and with the necromancer, the ability to not have any minions summoned upon killing an enemy in some particular trait line – cause it attracts agro which sometimes I don’t necessarily want XD
Would be cool to have some new pets though, maybe some more underwater ones? The scorpion fish thing looks cool cause it glows in the dark and all that
I’d love more pet options but the ability to disable your pet completely would be a very good option. I am tired of putting my pet away, only for it to pop up again anytime I take damage.

I play the game with my wife, slowly grinding out the gold,T6 mats, and clovers necessary for a Legendary. All the while hoping for a magical pre-cursor drop as I fight my way through PvE, WvW, dungeons, the QDale champ train and every so often, a Fractal. Aside from all of that I play the LS, knocking out the meta and stacking points so I can get my next skin.

Nerfing the area that actually draws players together in a way that allows them to have fun and casually enjoy the game because you don’t agree with it, is a great idea!
/sarcasm eye roll
How about we try something that actually makes the rest of the game equally enticing/rewarding, less grindy and creates a daily spontaneous sense of community that isn’t forced upon us (Tower of Nightmares anyone?). I run the champ train because it is fun, casual and I can actually play the game with other players in the open world. The only other time I see that many people together is when I’m WP’ing through world boss areas searching for a group that is actually interested in fighting one during the daily reset.

Op I just come form failing Claw of Jormag because we were 4 people- 4.
Claw is not hard- he takes take time to down.Guess how many people are running the Queensdale train?
It is a lot more than 4.Take a look at Tequatl on your server- I know on mine he is completely unmolested
When Queens gauntlet was up- how many people were running the pavilion zerg and how many were up in the rafters fighting in the gauntlet?Southsun is completely barren on my server too- I know because I go there every day
Sorry to say but people claim they want hard content and then they just don’t do it and go do something easy instead.
There is hard content and there is easy content- good luck finding people for the hard content though
Well said. This is exactly the problem I have with players asking for more difficult content. As a Guild Wars player since ‘05 and MMO player since ’03, I was ecstatic when I first watched the manifesto for GW2. ArenaNet was fixing the grind your life away mentality that still plagues MMOs today. I marveled at the idea that a studio understood that players, like myself, hate grinding. We hate the exclusion that comes when the greatest/most epic content (weapons, armor, skins included) is reserved for those that spend 30+ hours a week playing the game. This mentality fragments the community and ArenaNet knows that. They listened to the traditional crowd who wanted more “progression” and added Ascended gear. Then the crowd wanted “harder” content and they gave you Fractals. I’m fine with that because the game allows everyone to play the content they enjoy and have fun with equal rewards. However, I have noticed that when ArenaNet tried to please the hardcore crowd in PvE they end up turning events that were awesome group/zerg events into ghost towns.

1. You don’t speak for me or majority of the players so do not write posts as though you do. I’m a huge Guild Wars fan, I own all the books etc. I’ve been playing Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 since release or beta for GW2. ArenaNet DO NOT take the words of the whiny minority as the truth for the rest of the players. It will only further ruin the game for those of us that actually enjoy GW2 and the direction it is going.
2. ArenaNet has been doing well with the Living Story, I enjoy it and so do many other players. I’d rather the LS that allows all players to participate than excluding and fracturing the playerbase because of boxed expansions separating people from content and FUN (which is what I care about most).

I logged in on occasion and consider getting my two HoM points for the “Guild Warrior” title and FDS. I realized I’d be grinding for a while to get the necessary materials to craft the Destroyer weapon said “forget it”.

These are not in a particular order. All of these aspects combined is what makes Guild Wars 2 better than the original and my favorite game. Everything they talked about in the manifesto was exactly what I wanted and I’m glad they delivered.
1. No Holy Trinity – Everyone can play any role they want at any time which allows everyone to participate and have fun.
2. An open world with Boss/Dynamic Events that allow players to run around together and fight without a player limit. (Zergs are fun!)
3. World vs World – The combination of large scale PvE and PvP while adding objectives is an amazing part of the game. I’m glad it isn’t based on gear or level but on player skill and Commander strategy. The zerg vs zerg battles are crazy and fun.
4. The entire art/music design – ArenaNet has created a beautiful game visually and music that goes along with it helps complete the experience.
5. Combat – Combo attacks, dodges and moving while attacking. Skill capture is gone (thank goodness).

The trinity is a terrible system. I’m glad ArenaNet stepped away from it. It forces players to fill a specific role or class for a chance to have fun in any difficult areas of an MMO. The trinity turns every group into a build exam and if you aren’t set-up according to other peoples standards you cannot join. How is that fun? We should be able to play any class or role we want in a dungeon, PvE, PvP or WvW. We shouldn’t be forced to run build X with class Y to do a dungeon run because some players want to feel special.

Welcome back to the New Guild Wars 2. The amount of players across all the servers seems to have dipped dramatically. The most people you’ll probably see are during the first day of a new Living Story event (every two weeks). The others will be Champion farming in Queensdale or Frostgorge Sound. Occasionally a group will appear to do World Bosses depending on your server. However, do not expect to see many running through the open world, this game is not like it was during launch.

The “K” series are unlocked for overclocking. Intel sells the base chip and an unlocked or “K” version for a little more. The Core i7-3770/K has the best performance to price ratio. They cost about the same as the last gen i7s.

Never knew AMD went that crappy… eventhough i3/i4/i7 is Hexa core at most, and AMD has octa-core (with 8MB Cache)…
Always tought AMD was a beast when it comes to “gaming” lol

Aint the 200 euro AMD as good as an 550 euro i7 Intel?…
I didn’t catch that typo, thanks for the correction.
That benchmark does not negate all the other benchmarks that still show Intel surpassing the entire FX line. The only time the FX-8150 beats them is usually when it is either OC’ed or during synthetic benchmarks or encoding.

I’m not saying the FX-8150 is a bad CPU, I’m saying that you could spend his money on better options.

Edit: I just read your post again, I still suggest spending the money to upgrade an Intel route for the cost of either of those options. A 680 would be bottlenecked by the PhII 945. Is there a particular program or task that would require a octa-core?
I agree with ZaxanRazor. You are better off upgrading your CPU the Intel route if you want to increase performance significantly. I just built my wife a system that is using an i3-3225 (Ivy Bridge) and a 6870 and she is getting 40-60 FPS with medium-high settings. An i5 with a 6870 should perform even better. I’d suggest an i5- 3470, 3570 or 3570K because they are a new technology, lower wattage than anything AMD is offering and they should still perform well over the next few years.
The cost of that Asus GTX680-DC2O-2GD5 could buy you an i5-3570K, new MoBo and 8GB of DDR3 with $100-$150 left over. Newegg has a combo offer right now for a
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H and Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo) for only $309 before a $15 MIR. 8GB of good memory will only cost you about $35-$50. So you’re looking at around $350-$360.
I’m an AMD user myself. I’m running a Phenom II X6 1035T with a 2GB Radeon 6950. I know my CPU is holding me back slightly, so it isn’t bias. I built this system earlier this year and should have listened to all the posts suggesting the i5-2500K route. AMD is cheaper but you pay that cost in decreased performance in games.
