I have gotten the achievement, but the problem I find with this event is actually greed, and I’m not talking about the skritts.
When too many people are doing this event, the enemies do get scale up to Elites and Champions, and then people totally ignore the skritt thieves and just focus on the Champions even when it isn’t a Champion Skritt Thief.
Don’t forget that these are Sylvari, not human. The maternal bond that humans exhibit may not be a thing for Sylvari. The Wardens worry/care because it is their hunt/job to protect the Pale Tree.
Also don’t forget, that is just an Avatar for the Pale Tree and the Tree itself is what you are in. Maybe the tree just didn’t have enough energy left from the attack to maintain the Avatar anymore.
Sigh, I’ll try to find the quote, but the developer say only 5 people beat Lidari WITH 5 GAMBITS ON.
Sorry for caps, but some people like to read part of a sentence so I capped the important part.
Hmmm, if the Champion cycle is not in repeating order, then I must have gotten really lucky on the first day (or it was changed in a patch) because I just waited at the more North Balloon in Metrica and it cycled around the Champions without repeating until all 5 were summoned.
They split Queen’s Jubilee and Queen’s Gauntlet achievement and if you look, they use different icon design. Queen’s Jubilee uses Living Story design and Queen’s Gauntlet uses Activities design.
Think of it in a way where the Queen’s Gauntlet is introduced along with the Queen’s Jubilee, but isn’t tied specifically to the Jubilee.
Also if previous Living Story is used as reference, both Queen’s Jubilee and Queen’s Gauntlet will be here for 4 weeks, not 2 weeks.
If you look at the icon for Queen’s Gauntlet vs Queen’s Jubilee, Jubilee’s icon uses the Living Story design so most likely will be moved to the Historical tab afterwards, BUT Queen’s Gauntlet uses the Activities design so most likely it will be moved to Activities afterwards.
Not sure if it will be added to rotation though. It would be cool if they actually add it to the Home City and Lion’s Arch since there are 6 Arenas and if you look, the NPC you talk to to join in is represented by each race.
While I can understand what you mean, there is still a skill requirement for doing what you are doing. They didn’t ban those people that farm COF p1 continuously.
Also considering getting the new Sigil/Rune recipes requires 200 sprockets and each Superior cost 250 sprockets to craft, I say they intentionally allow a way to farm the materials even though they are permanent.
Just like with the Halloween/Wintersday Jumping Puzzle, if you were good, you could farm them all day long for crafting materials.
Well, I switch to my Mesmer and is able to beat them now, but still working on the achievement.
It is true if I can get the first 3 pieces of meat, Chomper goes down pretty fast, I was so close once but he got a piece of meat with like 5% health left. Strugar is not even an issue for my Mesmer once Chomper goes down.
Although now that I can beat them pretty consistently, I don’t mind having to keep retrying for the achievement since I am making a profit on sprockets and silver even by buying the tickets.
Hello,
I am trying to complete this fight and aiming for the achievement as well but is having trouble.
I have been using my Elementalist. I can trait up to run fast enough and with chill, can get to the meat before Chomper if it was just a race of speed and reflex, but Strugar pulls so much, I don’t have enough Stability to handle it. Worse part is when he literally throws the meat right in front of Chomper.
Any tips on this? I also have a Mesmer and Guardian as well if those classes would make this easier.
Thanks.
The daily for living story yesterday (running the torch) required you to do all 4 (I did that and it counted). Don’t know if this is bugged or intentional and daily was just worded confusingly.
It was mainly for those that complain about not having enough time to complete a living story’s meta. This way those can just log on, do dailies (for 16 days) and still get the meta.
Of course some people are still gonna complain because they have bad time management skills and serious OCD that needs to be professionally help.
Lets focus on the OP’s post here. He was on the first boss, not some of the later ones that people here are arguing about.
The first boss’s 1 shot skill takes so long to wind up and only hits in front of him. If you are gonna melee him and stand in his face, just dodge behind him. He can’t move while charging up the attack so if you dodge earlier to behind him, you can just hit him while he stands there.
I setup Ring of Fire first and try to have it up as much as possible. Arcane Wave will give you Might when use with it and set them on fire. Arcane Blast is there for extra attack and conditions. Dragon’s Tooth and Phoenix will give you Might as well if you get their Blast Finisher, but all fire skills will give you Might anyway from Traits. Earthquake with Ring of Fire will also give Might and area knockdown is good as well.
Under Water, you have Water Trident and Cleansing Wave for extra Heals and remember to use Frost Aura as well since it Chills your attacker.
Under Air, Lightning Strike and Blinding Flash are both instant cast and can add Blind. Ride the Lightning and Updraft have their standard use.
Under Earth, Stone Shards can add bleeding, but mainly keep Rock Barrier up (don’t Hurl) and Dust Devil gives another way to Blind. I didn’t use Churning Earth at all while Captain the First Mate were up, only used it against Gunner and Healer and only if they were backed into a corner (so even if they dodge, they don’t go anywhere).
Last thing is pretty much change elements to check on cool down of skills and gain Boons from doing so. You can activate Signet of Restoration for another heal, but try to have Water available for the Regeneration if you do.
A lot of fighting this way is thinking on your feet so there is no exact step-by-step version.
This is how I did it last night:
Scepter/Dagger Weapon Combo
Exotic Rampager Gear (but still had just Rare Explorer Accessories, lol)
Utility Skills:
Signet of Restoration, Arcane Wave, Arcane Blast, Signet of Air, Glyph of Elementals
30 Fire/10 Water/30 Arcana
Major Fire Traits:
Ember’s Might, Burning Precision, Pyromancer’s Puissance
Major Water Trait:
Shard of Ice
Major Arcana Traits:
Arcane Mastery, Elemental Attunement, Elementals Surge
I killed in this order:
Captain -> First Mate -> Gunner -> Healer
I kited the Captain and First Mate around in a small/medium circle and when they were down, just went in-their-face with the gunner and healer.
Note that there are two Hot Air Balloons per zone (minus Home City, Southsun, and Orr). I just open map and look for the icon.
Two a day would sound reasonable since there are two per zone (minus Southsun and Orr).
I did all 30 today, and I can understand how you feel, but that is the price we pay for rushing thing.
Side note: I love Stone Shield’s attack where he summons the spinning spiral of rocks. Sucks to get suck in by it since I couldn’t get out (had to mist form out while downed), but totally love the animation and wouldn’t mind having that skill for elementalists.
In my experience, the five queen’s champion cycles. I was at the more North, Hot Air Balloon in Metrica and just did the event cycle (escort → defeat aetherblades → queen’s champion → repeat escort) and each time it got to a queen’s champion, it was a different one. That is how I completed that achievement.
With Whirling Edge, I’m not 100% sure what getting him exhausted does, but you pretty much have to dodge his attack so he will miss and get exhausted. This of course is very difficult to do with illusions/pets/minions/summons around. Best thing to use against him is CC. I used chill/cripple/immobilize on him and he becomes much easier to handle.
Can someone clear this up for me, the OP have me a little confused. Those bugs that he is mentioning sounds more like they are issues in Queensdale, not Divinity’s Reach.
I find it very interesting that we have so many psychic people that play this game that are able to see the future and yet they aren’t able to see that Evon would lose. May be time to get a new crystal ball?
Sigh, it is really that difficult for people to do a little research before coming to the forums to complain. There are six areas for you to run around in where you can fight veterans and champions while you wait.
With it not being instanced, you can watch other people fight the bosses and learn what the bosses’ mechanics are and what strategies are available for each class to beat them.
I would love having books to read, but seriously, some players are too lazy to even read the update notes, even comparing them to a book. Do you think they will bother reading an actual book?
After thinking about it, I realize the achievements is actually confusing people, including me, on what is more important regarding the trials.
The trials’ event reward (bronze, silver, gold) is based on how many Aetherblades are killed and more you kill, the more loot you get, even if you fail.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the most valuable prize from the trials are the Aetherblade weapon skins right? So the real goal when doing the trials should be just kill everything you see, so you can get more loot, for more chance at getting the skins.
If you think these Living Story achievements actually requires 2 full weeks of nonstop playing, you obviously have not play enough of other mmos where constant, never-ending, luck-based grinding was the whole game.
Please do not count something as hard or will take forever until you have tried them out yourself.
And they didn’t claim to create the universe either, they were humanoid beings with great powers that brought humans to Tryia from another planet (that really happened, check the lore).
But a little more back on topic, some people will always complain when they don’t get what they want and even if they do, they will complain that it isn’t enough.
Nah, not specific enough since legit issue can still be brought up like cost, practical suggestions, and bug/glitches specific to the Black Lion Company.
Hm, I always thought achievement completionist have no life.
I see this as a lesson in real life, there will always be opportunities to gain something and lose something else.
If your company has a monthly drawing for prizes, but you have to have work the whole month (not counting normal days off) to be in the drawing and you decide to go on vacation. Do you come back complaining to your boss/company about how you’re missing out on the month’s prize drawing because you went on vacation.
If you want someone to stop treating you like cattle, then stop acting like cattle.
People who complain about RNG are seriously the people that are paying the money to fuel RNG. Those people also say they will quit RNG, but a month later or when the next shiny gets release, they go running back to it and then running back here to complain.
Arena Net should make a separate forum for people to complain about RNG.
Um, the 2 week release schedule started officially this month, but last month’s pretty much did the same thing.
The daily achievement part requires 3 days each, but finishing daily does not take a whole day. Daily should only take you 1 hour if that.
As a previous poster mentioned, it is not August yet, no part of the world, no matter what timezone is it August.
What do you mean vacation? Unless you are a student with no job or work in a school, there is no such thing as summer vacation outside of school. Besides, it has been a while, but don’t summer vacation start in June or July, people should be starting school again in August.
For sake of argument, what occupation allows you to have vacation in August?
I posted about the CC method on page 2 of this thread, done with my elementalist, already, but think I just got ignored. Chill and Immobilize works great.
Belcher’s Bluff is also a permanent mini-game but can be played anywhere. I personally would love Sanctum Sprint to be permanent or at least part of the rotation since I use it when I just need a little more money.
Um… they talk about Crab Toss and Southsun Survival on this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/july-23-2013/.
Where did you hear about Keg Brawl being added to the minigame rotation? Keg Brawl was taken out for a bit because it was bugged and has since been been added back in.
Like what a previous poster posted, Halloween and Wintersday will return and Dragon Bash is a new annual event, but if holiday events in GW1 is any indication, we will be getting new rewards, but not sure if old rewards will return or not.
There are two sets of ‘translucent wings.’ One set that looks more like traditional dragon wings should still be available on the TP, search ‘holo’. The other set that looks like the Shatterer’s wings are account bound and everyone could only get 1 of.
Geez, if a mail that shows you exactly where to go to reach a new area or where new stuff is taking place is not enough, do you want them to just teleport your character automatically? How about instead of running around to find an event pop up, they should just automatically teleport your character from event to event.
It could just be a glitch, or it could be that she is back in the next Living Story and they are updating her Journal to have menus and able to play multiple cut scenes?
I personally always like how the Living Stories worked and I understood their subtle connections to each other, but I’m used to watching anime/reading manga where the story is literally always in arcs. Especially the longer ones where all the story arcs in the beginning are just different character introductions. The surprises in the end or near the end that reference to things that happened way earlier, I find that totally awesome.
I agree the impatient players are to blame for all the ‘lack of cohesion’ tension that is surrounding the Living Stories. They expect everything to be spoon feed to them and all at once. It reminds of those people that review games and say the story doesn’t make any sense when they purposefully skip the story scenes that are fully voiced. If they are too lazy/impatience to listen to a story being told, what chances they will read a story.
But enough of my rant, back to the living story:
There has been subtle hints on the forums and website by Arena Net that the next story or a soon one will involved The Great Collapse in Divinity’s Reach. Maybe the great collapse is related to why Kasmeer’s father disappeared and if so, she should return and more background info about her will be given. Also given the fact that she was working with Marjory on the Aetherblade incident, maybe while Marjory was working on the murder itself, she was doing more in-depth research on the Aetherblades themselves and this “Scarlet.”
How shocking it would be if her father was this Mister E and he has been in hiding since the Great Collapse to investigate it because Minister Caudecus was behind it, the creation of the Molten alliance, and the formation of the Aetherblades; all to seize the throne from the Queen. For those that have done the Order of Whisper story line, think about what information his daughter could have.
This is all speculation on my part, but that would put an interesting twist on things.
Also note that her armor, along with a new medium and heavy armor set has been added to the PvP lockers.
The problem I find with the trials is that they are simply not fun. Regardless of if you can do it or not, solo or group, how many people actually say: Lets do this again because it is so fun!
Note: I have done both Kiel’s and Evon’s on T4 with my elementalist, solo.
I used the hide behind the spawn point tactic in both.
- With Evon’s, I got lucky and only one plunderer spawned the entire time, so killing just one when they spawn was easy.
- With Kiel’s, a second plunderer would always spawn at around 5:25 and with the other random spawns that will attack you once you start attacking the plunderer even if they are far away, it was really tough until I found out a strange glitch/bug/loophole:
I found this out while trying to do the trials on my lv 5 (upscaled to 80) ranger for giggles (lack of sleep).
I tried using the longbow’s interrupt to see if the plunderer would drop the bag (they don’t), I started just doing that instead of killing him and notice even after 5:25 when the second plunderer was supposed to spawn with other enemies, that plunderer didn’t. I even notice that besides the first few that spawns along with the first plunderer, no other enemies spawned at all.
I switch back to my elementalist, tested this theory out, still work. So after the 5:25 mark, I started killing the plunderer and each new one that spawned, but no other enemies besides the plunderer would spawn.
This was how I beat Kiel’s tier 4 trial solo, easy, but so boring.
Pirates actually have better employee benefits and such than current jobs as well. You’ll want to keep your crew (employees) happy in a line of work where they can and will kill you.
(I read the above somewhere, but can’t seem to remember the source. Just take it as a joke if necessary)
It only matters if you are going for the corresponding achievements, but otherwise no. You get the support tokens from both and it is how you vote with the tokens that matter since you don’t even need to activate the support button.
Each character can only get the shoulder piece once, so if you’re doing it again with a character that has already gotten it, you’ll just get usual chest stuff.
I unfortunately don’t have a new character to test it out with, so going to have to wait for someone that wants to do the jumping puzzle to confirm.
I think the bigger issue is greed, not on the gold or money itself, but the “I need to have everything” mentality. The guild kite is unnecessary to play any of the content in the game.
New content may be coming every 2 weeks, but not all is temporary and each month’s 2 content update are related. Just like last month’s Dragon Bash was just a beginning to the Sky Pirates of Tyria content. The Bazaar of the Four Winds is just a beginning to the Cutthroat Politics content.
@biofrog.1568
Um, belcher’s bluff is a permanent addition so not sure of your rush unless you really want the sixth skill, which isn’t that good anyway. Even if it wasn’t a permanent addition and goes when the bazaar goes, it is still here for another 3 weeks.
And good luck Deimos Tel Arin.7391
I actually want to see a leaderboard for who took the most damage falling to their death.
The sanctum sprint game gives at least 8 silver no matter what place you come in, so 10 runs will get you almost 1g if not more. Don’t see how people can have trouble with money in waypoints in this map when it gives you an easy way to get the money back 10 fold.
A few tips:
- Watch which bag you run over, the 2 bag types look different, 1 is for offensive skills and the other is for defensive skills.
- Keep the “Grounded” skill (#6, defensive) at hand and activate it before jumps or when you see the lightning animation starts above your character head, that skill will protect you from the next attack within a time frame.
If you happen to get in a race with me, when I get to the finish line first, I wait for someone to cross the line first since I already got the achievement and there is not much difference in chest reward no matter the race placement. I met other people who do this as well. During one race, two other person and I were waiting just before the finish line for the next person to cross, lol

“Halloween with the Black Lion Trading Company
Available from October 22 to November 5”
November 5th, 2012,
As others have said, it is a costume, but as long as you’re not in combat, you can wear it as you run through any zone.
