The build I posted is directly from Metabattle where it’s rated as meta for front line sustain. Why is the build ranked as “meta” if the gear should actually be different?

Just trying to understand here. I think 2 soldier stat earrings are not enough toughness considering the rest is pretty much glass except for vitality. But the build is rated as part of the meta so………..

You mentioned “resistance spamming” on your first post. Pain Absorption already costs too much energy and has short duration leaving you no space to use hammer’s damagin skills so the power-precision-ferocity on the gear doesnt rly help. Hammer dmg-dealer is one thing (and doesnt even need to be front line , hammer has good range) and frontline-sustain-supporter is another.

boon sharing = +concentration
frontline = +vitality +toughness

so I dont rly see any room left for power-precision-ferocity to make you effective at frontline cleaving. You can just go for Minstrel’s stats(healing,toughness,vitality,concen) and play Mallyx stance for resistance sharing and switch to ventari stance when needed for healing support.

Im sitting at the far back of the blob , why would I ever need a stunbreak. If by mistake I let myselft to get close to the enemy zerg I will just switch to staff and hit #5. And afterall I already get a stunbreak whevenever I invoke a legend. Invocation goes well with Ventari Rev.

Imho what needs to change is the elite skill. Its just trash.

Works well with steal for burst dmg

you must not hit steal immediately after #2 because it will only hit once and then move past your target. There needs to be a small pause between weakening charge and steal.

BD’s “10% more dmg” would be better utilized by the high mobility d/p style thief who travels fast around the map to find +1 fights, deal burst dmg, take opponent down fast and then get moving again.

UC’s “10% dmg reduction” seems more beneficial to the “brawler” acro-staff type thief who can stay and contest a point sometimes even in a 1vs2 situation.

Would you prefer to see these two buffs getting switched ?

Dont try to figure out balance in 1vs1 or 5vs5

GW2 PvP is balanced around WvW’s zerg vs zerg and classes like Warriors and Guardians are designed to be frontline tanks, sustaining massive AoE spammage.

Is 5 vs 5 the source of the problem ?

A team of 5 players in a conquest map with 3 capture points means they have to split in such way that quite often a player will face an opponent player 1vs1 over a point. Since 1vs1 balance is quite like rock-paper-scissors meaning that dragonhunter can hardcounter thief, mesmer can hardcounter revenant etc etc, the dominant class will capture the point and propably win the game for his team.

I believe this can be solved by adding more players to the PvP maps making it like 8vs8 or even 10vs10. (it does NOT mean the old 5vs5 should be removed, you can just have both versions of each map and let players decide which to queue for)

So in a 10vs10 game if a small team of players go against another team over a capture point, (even if outnumbered like 2vs3), the fight wont be about 1vs1 class balance anymore. Its gonna be more about cooperation, positioning, prioritization etc.

I think he needs a boost on his sustains because he gets too much punishment for a single mistake. Usually it goes like this

I evade
I evade
I evade
I fail to evade and I lose 2/3 of my health

So unless Anet wants this class to be balanced around asian reflexes they should do smth about teef’s sustain like boosting his health-gain-regen on evade or smth.

Also the time needed to cap an undefended point is always the same no matter how many friendly players are standing on it. In other words one player is enough to cap an undefended point.

Power Rev is weak against

1) Classes with lots of pets (mesmer , pet necro). His dmg splits between pets so he cant rly hurt you.

2) Condi burst classes. Only way for Rev to deal with condis are

a) a single condi removal every 10 secs if they spec Invocation which is rare, most Revs choose Retribution.

b) Staff #4 is a slow and bad condi cleanse

c) Another weak condi cleanse in long cooldown If they use rune of leadership

Carefull if they are not Power speced but Condi/Mallyx . Those revs are weak against stuns , crowd controls. You need to stun/interrupt him at low health then burst him down.

Last, always stop dealing dmg to a Herald when he pops up Facet of “Your dmg heals me for the next 2 seconds”

you are no much of a threat when you are stunlocked to death , without Retribution and double stability buff on dodge you are as good as dead , I even use energy sigil on my staff just for that extra endurance

Yes , I noticed this bug this morning and it happens quite often and generally un.assault feels quite bugged, most of the time the channeling attacks stop too early and if that wasnt enough I get immobilized frequently with no particular reason. We will have to wait for patch fix I guess

I think thats why sword#5 exists, to pull your opponent away from their pets/clones and make (slightly) better use of #2 or #3. From the other hand thats the way things are in this game. Sword Revenants are weak against multiple targets. Just as weak is a condition build against perma-resistance berserker or a ranged build against projectile reflecting engineers etc etc etc. Welcome to Rock-Paper-Scissors Wars 2

My humble opinion

Warriors excel in team fighting , they can take a lot of punishment and also have strong AoE attacks

Revenants(power/shiro) are better suited for 1vs1 because their dmg splits between enemies thus becoming weaker especially when facing enemies with pets.

So you are trying to compare classes that have different roles. Warrior are for fighting mid while Revenants are for capping far

As for gameplay , Warriors are just faceroll whle Revenants have hard rotations between weapons and stances that need lot of practice to get used to.

well, one specialization is gonna be Trickery since staff rly needs the extra initiative.

the other specialization is up to you. Acrobatics for more survivability or CriticalStrikes-Deadly Arts for for damage output.

As I have said before its gonna be rly hard to kill someone by just using Vault unless you have someone else to snare-chill-immobilize your targets all the time. Thats why Staff thieves should learn to use combination of Impairing Daggers – Steal – Fist Flurry

Long story short, teefs are far from the top of the food chain.

pistol/dagger and all the rest condition dmg builds are kinda bad atm. Berserkers are immune to condis, Elementalists passively clear condis away and Reapers will return condis back to you so generally playing condition dmg build will leave you frustrated. I suggest you go for power staff, d/p etc

Acrobatics

  • after succesfully evading your dmg is increased by 10% for 3? secs

Shadow Arts

  • after leaving the shadows your dmg is increased by 10% for 3? secs

I say go for Daredevil with Bounding Dodger so you can have access to stealth with Blackpowder Combo. Stealth will add to your survivability and also give you pistol Sneak Attack opening before unloading for even more burst.

Trickery because you will need the extra initiative

Critical Strikes for Practiced Tolerance and No Quarter

or Deadly Arts ,its up to you.

your opener/burst should be

(weapon skill) + steal +fist flurry

As weapon skill you can either go with staff#4 or staff#2

You can also use Bounding Dodger as opener and hit Steal just before you land on the ground.

Also, you can start by throwing Impairing Dagger for even more burst.

d/d condi build lacks mobility and disengage mechanics. My trickery tree would be 1-3-2 and instead of precision signet i would go for Spider Venom and ofc Basilisk Venom.

This Staff build wont work. Simply enough spamming Vault all the time will kll nothing. A few misses and evades will leave you soon out of initiative. You need to learn to combine skills like

Impairing Daggers – 2 or 4 – Steal – Fist Flurry
or
Impairing Daggers – Bounding Dodger- Steal – Fist Flurry
or other burst dmg combos. Usually you do a combo as above then play around with Vault-Dodge then combo again to finish.

For Daredevil i would go 3-1-3 or 3-1-2 and Acro 3-3-3

Noone uses Shadow Arts anymore, that tree needs to be looked at. Some suggestions could be

-you gain +XX% bonus dmg after leaving stealth for 1-2 seconds.

-stealth duration increased by 3-4 seconds instead of just 1.

-stealth grants you vigor

Would you recommend using acro/trick/DrD with D/P as well?

Using staff you lack stealth so Acro is more important because you will always be target of CC effects and due to low armor-toughness you will drop dead fast.

Using d/p the BlackPowder + Unbounding Dodger combo gives you stealth on demand which means you will be less targeted so its up to you if you pick DA for more burst dmg or Acro’s condi clear and partial CC resistance.

I’ve been using blinding powder for ages. Is it worth dropping for BD?

I believe yes! First of all “it breaks stuns”

Blocking can save you from a lot of stuff that otherwise would have killed you e.g. Dragonhunters traps and Mesmer’s Gravity Wells etc etc

and also it gives you a counterattack stun-interrupt.

Need more? Its on 12 seconds cooldown.

If you go for staff plz dont pick Deadly Arts. Instead go for Acrobatics. You will notice far better survivability. My rotation is Impairing Daggers , Weakening Charge, Steal, Fist Flurry and if my target is low enough I finish with Impact Strike or switch to dual pistols and Unload. Also Bandits Defense is a must no matter what build you play. Its a stun breaker on a rly short cooldown that will add even more to your survivability.

If Basilisk Venom is not up you can throw Impairing Daggers to immobilize your target , then steal and Fist Flurry. After the burst sequence the target will try to heal up and since Imprairing Daggers applies a -33% heal debuff, it helps a lot to finish him down.
