Okay first off Axe MH is a condition based AOE (hits 3 targets untraited) weapon. It is part of many of my builds. Dagger OH compliments this MH absolutely PERFECTLY!!!
So if you want to see improvements please ask for more conditions…not power duh.
All durations are merely examples so dont cry about them.
Axe auto can be split into a 3 chain skill (kind of like the mesmer OH Pistol) where the axes cause specific conditions on hit. 1st axe hit, 3s torment. 2nd axe hit, 5s cripple. 3rd axe hit, 1s immobilize.
Axe skill #2. Perfectly fine as is. If you want to see its full effect I suggest, again, using dagger OH.
Axe skill #3. Don’t touch. Chill foe for more kiting possiblities? (I’ve scared people into condition cleansing with it) Hell yes. And the 10s weakness is a bonus because you can use ANY pet to get it.
Besides, all these conditions can be used as buffers to your main damaging conditions that your swap weapon can deal in greater quantities. Example: you deal 11 stacks of bleeding with Shortbow, swap to axe and deal 4 different conditions in about 2 seconds, foe uses condition cleanse and clears 3 of your buffered conditions and not the bleeds stacks.
Please no more hate on Axe.
Well I have had lots of luck with sPvP build. Not much health but a TON of heals and if played right the health pool wont be too much of an issue:
Let me know what you guys think thank you!

So I have never posted in the Ele forum’s but I felt the need to share this sPvP build with you
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQJAoYhMmmbmR4gjDAEFnYiQBGWUeMTO2A-ToAA0CnIqRpkTJjSSlsKNwYGC
I like making underdog builds so I figured why not bring the D/D Ele back. It has done wonders for me and I am not the best Ele either. Let me know what you guys think thank you.

Here’s a newer build of mine that I have been using successfully in PvP:
I guess if I were to give it a name it’d be the “V8 Hybrid”
Please feel free to leave constructive criticism and/or try it out for yourselves, Good Night.
EDIT Totally forgot about the build post thread…oh well

Spirit Rangers depend mostly on their spirits for the passive effects and mostly run the settler’s type of gear. Healing power, Condition Damage and Toughness. Basically they are good for beginner Rangers considering how much passives are going on.
With that said they are VERY helpful in team fights and also solo, so it is a very all around good build. Just be prepared for longer fights depending on your playstyle.
PvE will be very easy for you and WvW is based on what I said above ^
One thing you guys need to remember is that Axe main-hand needs an off-hand weapon to complete it. I’ve been using the Axe main-hand nonstop for the past 2 months and found that you’ll get the most utility out of it’s skills if you try the Dagger.
I’ve seen people run Dagger mostly with Sword. Now that can be good with all the evades, but that’s a lot of evades…5 respectively with dodges. One simply doesn’t need all those evades in one weapon set.
Now try using Dagger with Axe:
Stalker’s Strike can be used to fill that gap for Splitblade…problem solved.
Crippling Talon is great for more bleed pressure on target and kiting abilities.
Winter’s bite, perfect skill. Best kite and allows your pet (if melee) to land that weakness.
Ricochet is a ranged AoE auto attack, and your complaining? Yea 1v1 the DPS is lowered but you shouldn’t be autoing for that long considering the short CD’s of the weapon set.
There’s a lot more to Axe main-hand than just autoing people. Please try to be more open to what you have before you start QQing.
P.S . conditions aren’t just for condition builds. They actually can be used to force the target to use removals, certain skills, POISON (actually helps power builds more than you think), and overall constant pressure on top of those big numbers.
PvP more of a natural look, like a Sylvari should XD
PvE more of a mysterious ranger look
Here are my PvP front/back and my PvE front/back setups.
I went with a more natural look on my PvP armor to really bring out the Sylvari in my character. And went with a more mysterious ranger theme on the other.
Let me know what you think XD
Just get rid of Sharpening Stone and make Entangle an utility.
Entangle: Entangle your foe. They are immobilized until the vines are destroyed.
Survival.
Cool Down: 50 sec
Damage: 60
Bleeding 5 stacks: 6 sec
Immobilize: 1 sec
Duration: 10 sec
Number Of Targets: 3
Radius: 600
The bleeding is instantly applied upon creation and DOES NOT pulse for the duration of the skill.
The immobilize is instantly applied upon creation and DOES pulse for the duration of skill.
As far as the new Elite utility goes, just make some sort of super signet that doesn’t lose its passive when activated. Or a super trap that would disable the F abilities of other classes for a specific duration or disable the use of other elites/remove elite effects already on a foe, as well as doing some sort of other team support effect such as boon removal, condition removal, damage, apply random conditions…etc.
These are ideas I quickly thought of reading this post so let me know if this will solve the issue.
Thank You
I managed to shrug off the pet nerfs in the past but this time I can’t. They changed a perfectly good LB skill. Why? It worked in PvE/PvP/WvW just fine. If you wanted 10vuln stacks, you had it (plus the arrow flies like a bullet so the window of missing, invul, block, etc was very small). The 10sec pet swiftness worked with vuln cause then it could actually hit the target on the move while dealing more dmg.
Yes I understand the benefits of stealth. But the Ranger already had a passive “save me” trait (Hide In Plain Sight) which imo works wonderfully if you remember you have it traited. I don’t mind stealth for a Ranger. I DO mind stealth on my longbow.
Now I can say that most people would agree that stealth is more of a 0-900 range type of playstyle. Unless your running away and at that point you’ve messed up. So let me remind you all of the role of the LONGbow. clears throat….the LONGbow is a LONG RANGED BOW. Just look at the auto att, 1500 range if traited, AoE cripple, pet swiftness for it to do the up close dmg, and if you cant swap in time you have a very good knockback.
I say stealth should have been put on a shorter ranged weapon. Let’s say, gee idk…SHORTbow. Skill 2 maybe? It should give you and your pet 3s of stealth (pet doesnt lose stealth on attack, but you still do) on a successful hit. Oh and maybe swap out the poison with a couple sec of a boon for your pet depending on how many of the arrows actually hit (5 stacks or 5 sec if they all hit; something like that). And swap out the bleed effect of skill 4 with poison. This way it forces you to care about your pet more so it can poison with its next three attacks. Perfect combo would be skill 2 into skill 4 to apply the poison without the target knowing. Oh look at that! Synergy with LB and SB either together or separate.
The GM trait should have every opening strike remove up to 2 boons from an enemy and randomly given to you and your pet. 1 boon each. Or 2 boons to you if pet is dead. Also keeping the reset on a kill.
This way it encourages the trait to be used more often. Applying vulnerability/critting and now boon removal.
Okay I understand now thank you very much for clearing that up.
Another question, Concentration Training supposedly increases the Pet’s boon duration by 50%. Why don’t I get the increased boons from that as well. Still sitting at 15sec Fury. Not 22.5sec Fury.
Oh, so even though the boon is on me. The source says its from me. The pets’ boons won’t be increased? I figured any boon I got (from myself or the pet), the runes and trait line increased it for me only. Very strange.
Last time I tried to post a bug on the Main bug list, they ignored it.
Last time I tried to post a bug on the Ranger bug list, they did away with the Sticky Post…
So here I am trying to put out some major bugs that should be fixed ASAP (in order of importance)
If I am wrong please reply with the correct information Thank You!
Tests were all in Heart Of The Mists
1. As of the the June 25th patch, ALL pet conditions do not show their “ticks” but the effects are the same.
2. Concentration Training: Seems to me like it is not working at all. Tested it with Fern Hound, Red Moa, Blue Moa, and Raven. After that point I assumed the same results with the rest of the pets. Read from multiple sources (not many people care about this trait so it was hard to find) that it is a 50% increase?? No matter, because it doesn’t work.
3. Red Moa specifically: Furious Screech grants 15sec of fury to nearby allies. Using 4 Superior Runes of Rage (20% Fury duration) and 2 Superior Runes of Citadel (15% Fury duration) and with the 15% boon duration from trait line; I’m looking at a 50% Fury duration increase.
Using the skill SHOULD net me the 22.5sec of Fury…right? Wrong. I was still getting 15sec of Fury no matter what. On top of this, the tooltip says 17.25sec of Fury. WTF??
So now try to imagine if bugs 2 and 3 worked…100% Fury duration increase???
4. The Bird’s Skill: Quickening Screech grants swiftness to nearby allies for 10sec. Tooltip says 1200 range; I’d say it is a range of 500 when in combat.
Now I’m not sure if this works with other pets, such as increasing the regen duration of the Fern Hound’s howl using the combo above. So if you want to test other pets please feel free and come back with results.
Is it just me or NONE of the conditions applied from pets show their “ticks”. This is a huge bug and should be fixed immediately.
I’d say torch.
Skill 4 is ranged and applies burning which deals the most damage of conditions and will fit fine in your build even with no condition damage.
Skill 5 is the bread and butter of the setup. Its synergy with the sword is ideal because it will drop a pulsing AoE which damages and causes burning. It also is a fire field for your teamates to use and most importantly for you. Since sword 2’s return jump is a leap finisher, you can apply the fire shield. Which gives you might whenever you attack (or being hit i forget which one).
stale, yeah I was on a thief streak for a while in the game. And I don’t post much about anything really lol but I don’t like when people complain about the classes (especially ranger). So I had to put my two sense in.
Anyway, yes I did notice that the melee is slightly more powerful for rangers but I have always loved ranged combat in any game. So I am currently running a SB/GS BM build that has the best of both worlds.
P.S. I’m more into WvWvW now. I love how people underestimate the power of the ranger in this game! It completely throws them off guard lol.
I for one think the bows are just fine the way they are. A Ranger’s bow should NEVER have the Thief’s bow’s abilities. A Ranger should NEVER have the Warrior’s bow’s abilities. I don’t know what you were thinking in that OP but I’m sorry to say this, your wrong. Ranger is a completely different play style than the other classes (as intended by A-Net).
All the weapons have some sort of synergy with the Ranger’s pet. Talking bows specifically, they are meant to keep distance and deal damage (conditions or crits) while your pet does the up-close damage (some are ranged I know). The problem is with most people who play Ranger (that complain about it) is they haven’t played the class long enough to fully understand its full potential. I being a Ranger from the day GW2 was released, have played almost if not all possible classes and know how it’s played.
Anyway back to the point, Shortbow is great for keeping distance with skills 3, 4, and 5. The 4 skill even has the pet deal 3 stacks of bleed on the target and with the cripple and new AI it’s almost guaranteed. The 2 skill is useful for the 33% less effective heal and up close it’s even better.
The Longbow is good for very far distance using the 1 skill. Very useful weapon to open with cause you can drop your AoE and force the enemy to go around or use energy, skills to get through it. Than hitting with the 3 and 2 skill combo is ideal, following up with the 4 skill to a weapon swap.
(This is the Shortbow comparison for Thieves and Rangers). Thief has to spam 2 skill to apply bleeds whereas Ranger can auto attack for bleeds. Thief skill 4 is poison, Ranger skill 2 is poison. Thief skill 3 is evade backwards, Ranger skill 3 is jump back. Ranger skill 4 is three stacks of bleed, Thief skill 2 is three stacks of bleed (that’s two skills the Ranger has that applies bleeds). And skill 5 for both, would you rather waste half initiative running away or potential blind (which no one would use in a fight as a thief)? OR interrupt or get the upper hand or kite.
It’s not the Ranger, it’s you.

Haha well I played a spvp hot join earlier and this was the result. I know my team was mostly skilled players because of their lvl AND that they were theives as well. But I was doing well otherwise I’d switch rooms.
My Charr Thief. Full Whispers. Will get better weapons but for now this works lol.
Thief is my main and I have tried mostly every build for him except the venom share build. For sPvP (r30 as well) my main source of glory and score is to cap the points. Since thieves have very good mobility such as 5 skill on SB, swiftness on evade, shadow step, 2 skill on sword, utility where you stealth teleport to the trap…and so on, ninja capping is very easy. As far as your build goes try a tankier approach such as a condition build. If what you are comfortable with what you use now than that’s fine too. I recommend after every 3-5 games or so check back on your build and adjust what you don’t use and maybe need based on your play style.
As for the CnD skill, it has a 0.5 sec cast time so it doesn’t hurt to activate it before your in melee range (to an extent).
The SB for me personally is an escape tool since my build is based on my P/D setup.
If your losing init. fast, try using the traits that give 2 every 10 sec, 2 for a skill that stealths you, 3 on steal, 3 extra init (might be 5 I forget), the utility that gives 1 every 10sec.
mine build is more like Friction’s…
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-dR3V;1RwFb0J5VOkd0;9;6TJJ;435A17-29-8Nm6;2dZm9fRk01Fu
I have tweaked it several times and that is the end result. No, there is no stun breaker but that’s okay since you use the signet and quickly c/d for a double blind. By this time you should be out of the stun.
@obsolete here is my build for a thief post nerf. it works quite well still.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYIQNAoYVlUmKO3ey5E95Ex2DfqTe6fgs6MoZLB;TsAg0CnoUyokQJrSOlkKtGZkxsAA
you can get quite alot of might and fury after you steal. you will have 65% crit damage after you steal for about 12s (60% before) and about 5 to 7 stacks of might which will last you the entire combo. this makes up for the loss of 50 power in your traits and the loss of 165 power from using the scholar runes. Edit: you MUST apply Assassin Signet before the combo to apply the 5 stacks of might.
let me know what you think…
The only viable option to all of you who want another nerf on the Thief, is to get rid of initiative and just put cooldowns. Now this is a HUGE change and I doubt Anet will do it since there is SO much integrated with initiative. All i can say is change your current build to absorb all that damage to reduce the initiative or just use a MESMER. ive played both Mesmer and Thief.
ps. Clones = wasted initiative = Mesmer win
yeah same here with both issues. i tend to wait till i get the error message than just refresh and join one with like 14 or less (just to be sure im not lagging) and itll go through. as for the point captures i get confused if we have it from time to time but the color in the middle should be red/blue if its captured.
I made a topic about this not too long ago. I hope it clears things up.

PART 2
Now for the PvP Chests…
I don’t know the exact number of items you drop from the chests but I do know that the quantity to quality ratio of items dropped increases as it goes from Bronze to Silver to Gold. With that being said, you will have a chance to get a glory booster, (I believe a finisher?), Slot Bags?, Random Dyes, (the tickets I believe come from Tournament Chests), armor and a weapon.
The type of chest determines the type of item/weapon it will drop (I think this applies for the dye as well but I’m not entirely sure seeing that the name is “Random Dye”:
Bronze – Phase 1_____Silver – Phase 2_____Gold – Phase 3
Here you can add the “crit” chance as I mentioned early on in this topic:
You will have to do some research on which items belong to which Phase because you will have a chance to drop an item that belongs to another chest. example…
“I buy Silver Chest and open it. I find an item which I don’t know the Phase it came from. I research it and find out it is from Phase 3!! So I salvage it and get two Slivers!”
This is an example of “crit” since the majority of items dropped from Silver Chests are from Phase 2. Now I am still weary about chests “back critting” which is when you’ll drop an item from a chest that is a Phase lower than expected; not too sure if there’s a chance or if it happens at all.
“crits” are also involved with forging items. Sometimes you will forge an item to make the next Phase up, thus secretly changing the formula from example…Crystal to Sliver.
Another example…(which I did myself and worked!!!)
“I have this Heavy Helm Token that I got from a type of heavy helm and want to forge it but I will never equip the item created. I also have a lot of Orbs and Powders to spare so I go ahead and combine them all with the Deer Token. I don’t know what the item is so I research and find out it’s from Phase 2! Okay, now I salvage it and got a crystal!!”
Perfect example of what I like to call a “resalvage”. I took my chances to have a “crit” because I had materials to spare and I got lucky :) Started with Orb…left with Crystal.
Now I think that is all with the information but I still want to share a little tip I recently found out on my own. You can only have one of an item banked. When it is banked, the duplicate in your inventory will have a greyed out sentence when you right click it saying something like “collect item” (lol I don’t know but you’ll know what I mean). This is the PERFECT item to salvage seeing how 1. you already have one (shown by the greyed letters) and 2. you know what Phase it’s from so you know if it can “crit” or not when “resalvaging”.
If you have and questions at all please reply to this so everyone can help you cause I will not religiously look at this haha. Also please step in at anytime to correct my mistakes and/or add on to what I have. Also let me know what type of rarity of dye you got from a specific chest because I think there is something there but like I said, I’m not too sure.
Thank you for reading this and I want more people to understand this clearly.

PART 1
Okay I want to clear some things up for the people who are confused with salvaging for the PvP gear in the Heart Of The Mists. My sPvP rank is 17 so I’ve been salvaging a ton and also read many, many forums on salvaging and people’s issues with it.
To start off there is a factor out there called “crit” which increases the chance of receiving a better item. For now we are going to ignore this and go on with the basic principle of salvaging.
I am going to use code names to organize things up a bit for you :)
(You can look up the rest of the names of the Rank Tokens because I do now know off the top of my head.) Every gear item recipe needs 5 Arcane Powders.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE READ IN COLUMNS! (hard to pull off lol)ty
Arcane Tokens:_Rank Tokens:_________PvP Chests:________Item Tokens:
Phase 1 – Orb____Rank 1 – Rabbit (1-9)_____Bronze – 200 glory___Light
Phase 2 – Crystal__Rank 2 – Deer (10 -19)____Silver – 500 glory____Medium
Phase 3 – Sliver___Rank 3 – Dolyak (20 – 29)Gold – 1,000 gloryHeavy
___________________________________________________Weapon Type
An item is made using one of each of the ingredients shown above (powder is five and excluding the chests obviously). When you salvage an item (buy salvage kit – 100 glory – receive in stacks of 15) you have chance to salvage out one of the materials shown above. Sometimes you will get one, two or three (make that up to four for the powder) of each Phase or Powder and will always get back one Item/Rank Token (pretty sure this is right, correct if I’m wrong). Now depending on the Rank Token the item is from, you have a chance of getting that Rank Token back.
Now here is the part which not too many people know about or even think about when salvaging…
When you salvage an item, you have a chance to get back those same ingredients it took to forge said item.example… salvaging an item that is made from Phase 1 you will have a chance to get back an orb (or two or three). This rule applies to Phase 2 and 3 as well. I do not know the chances of getting the specific materials back but I think the higher the Phase you go, the less chance you’ll get that Phase material back. I do know that the Arcane Powders are the most abundant and I believe the Item Tokens have a pretty slim chance. The Rank Tokens might have a better chance than the Phase materials.
(edited by Zorak.1254)
Yesterday I received 6 slivers at level 17. I really want the level 20 gear so I am cautious with spending my glory. I decided to buy 5 gold chests and yes got 6 slivers, most orbs and powder, about 3 crystals, some tokens/gear tokens, and 2 dyes. It was my most successful gathering I had. The slivers also came in bundles of 3 which means I salvaged only 2 items to get 6 slivers (not sure if this is for everyone since those were my only slivers I ever got).
Oh yeah I spent 3 of them on armor with the free tournament tokens seeing how that will give me the best looking armor out of the rabbit/deer selections.
A tip I learned, salvage silver or gold chests only (I prefer gold) till your half way with the tier. So, 5, 15, 25, 35 and so on. This way you can collect enough glory/materials for the next tier while collecting gear in the mean time (if you want full sets).
Keep in mind, the gold chests will sometimes provide you with the gear that ARE the result of crystals/slivers so that’s a given piece to the set right there without having to go through the process. So please be careful when salvaging such items.
Just started thief and been using the sword/dagger and short bow setup. I have been obtaining a ton of success with this build mostly due to its ability to regain initiative and its movement to cap the points. It is very squishy with only 14k health but surprisingly i don’t get downed too often. The trick is to not be in the mob of people but instead let your thieves guild do the dirty work while you kite with the bow.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYEQNAsYVlUmaPncy5E9JFx2jdqTeyfwo+HIrWBaC;TsAg0CnoQygkAJLSOkkIt0YMykCA
I really like the quickness buff from the sigil on the bow because you hit SO many people in the mobs since it dances between targets. I tend to use the bow often but when I have to use the Sword/Dagger i have a plan.
Using skill 5 I stealth and hit him from behind. This causes them to be dazed for 2sec which means no skills being used. Due to stealthing I cannot stealth again for about 3sec, during this time of the target being dazed, I just skill 1 or 3 him and than hit with 5 after the 3sec are up. This means the target has only 1sec to use any skill he wants(if done correctly and I’m not good at timing lol). I also gain two initiative from a trait every time I stealth so I always have some to spare.
