To me, from best to worst: sylvari > charr > asura=norn > human

I don’t know, lore wise, and as a roleplayer, I just like the feel of norn and their shapeshifting shamanic roots more than humans. I am a human. I am around humans. I like their aesthetic kind of, but to me they are the most boring.

The new map elixir against the bitter cold will make it impossible for some reason. ANet is aware of this and should be working on it. It’s annoying, but it makes PVP impossible at the moment with the “buff” on.

If you have the new map elixir effect on you, it will do this. They said they are looking into it last I heard.

ANet twitter confirmed it’s a DDoS attack. Level 3 for most of the US is down right now so it’s not just NCSoft being targeted.

Can somebody enlighten me as to what this thing is? It starts at the bottom of the screen and swirls up to the sky around the initial guild hall waypoint, where it begins again and loops. All of my guildies see it. Perhaps I’m just missing something…

Yes. Please no boobplates for my charr. The best option would be armor designed specifically to accommodate this without simply reverting to the male armour but if that has to be the case then, personally, I think it’s better than it currently is.

I have a horrible fear of deep dark water, and…well, thankfully there’s not MUCH of that in the game, but sometimes I have to grab a vista or we’re doing the underwater fractal. The worst was and still is the wreckage under Lion’s Arch. I still feel light headed when I have to swim down there for map completion, but I’ve found that doing it over and over and over again has really helped to sort of…trivialize the fear for me? Don’t get me wrong, IRL deep water still causes me to panic, as it does in other games, but I suppose I’ve become so used to it in GW2 at this point that it’s not so bad.

I also have a horrific case of arachnophobia and pretty much do what Danikat does! I focus on anything but the spiders, maybe even busy myself with something else on the screen until they’re all dead.

I wish you the best of luck with your phobia though! I know it can be hard, but eventually (hopefully) you find ways to minimize the fear response and enjoy the game to its fullest!

Submit a ticket. Support is usually good about reinstating accidentally deleted items, at least in my experience.

CDA: One of the lore questions that bother players the most is – do Sylvari have sex? Are they able to procreate on their own, or just keep sprouting out of the Pale Tree?

Martin Kerstein: I’m not exactly a lore person, but as far as I understand – yes, Sylvari can have sex and they will have sex with whoever they like, they are fully capable of doing so. But they don’t do it to create to new Sylvaris. They actually grow from the tree.

GG: Given the fact that the sylvari do express sexually dimorphic traits on the surface, does this create awkward moments when they interact with other species who might have more comparatively rigid gender roles in some capacity? I imagine there is a lot of confusion about the sylvari in general, but where does that start/end in terms of what has been written?

Ree: Certainly! Because of their physical design (male-female gendered), the sylvari are typically ascribed to ‘standard’ gender roles by the other races.

You’re better off sending in one ticket to support to have your issue reviewed. This can be done through the forums by clicking the support link at the top of the page and then choosing to submit a request on the upper right hand side. Fill out as much information as you can. From what I’ve read, you can still use those codes. You’ll still have to pay 50$+ if you want the expac later, but if you don’t want the expac, those box editions are certainly an option. I believe the only thing you can’t do is buy the standard versions through DIGITAL means (since those have been bundled with HoT).

I’ve bought gems multiple times with prepaid cards so I don’t see why this would be any different. Can anyone confirm? Otherwise, I’d hazard the answer would be ‘yes’.

All I can say in the matter is, as I main almost all sylvari toons, it’s kind of hit or miss. Sometimes my ‘vari will turn their head to look at selected NPCs/other toons, sometimes they won’t. Not really playing other races, I cannot comment on them, but I know it’s not JUST norn that do it.

This is the same thing that I have noticed. While not game breaking, it IS quite the eye strain. All of the price numbers are very small and compact, and where before I was able to glance at them quickly, now I have to stop and squint.

I have used two emails and have not gotten confirmation on either of those after multiple attempts. Just adding my name to the roster!

You seem to have the outfit slot checked, although there is no outfit in the slot. It’s the box above all the others. Try unchecking that and then seeing if you can dye your stuff then?

Well, one of my wishes came true…GUILD HALLS. AHHHHH. YES.

Put anything account bound + not soulbound into your bank it will transfer with you. Soulbound items will be lost (or unusable if you bank them) but all other things will come with you on server transfer (in the bank/collection tab).

IF Tengu were ever released (and oh boy I do wish, I love me some bird people) I would delete my guardian (max level, don’t care) and make one of those. Also buy another slot for either a mesmer or necro. And for medium…maybe delete my engie or thief.

I would want one of each weight profession. Gimme my birds! :>

As a sylvari RPer where most of my characters are Nightmare courtiers…..

We’re already discussing the ramifications. Our characters are all set to accept the fact they’re dragon minions, and we’ve talked about how they’d be happy to finally have a figurehead other than the Pale Tree, as their ‘dad’. Since our characters are based on corruption and conflict anyhow, the prospect of facing IC challenges for character growth is well received.

My main courtier and character is a little apprehensive about the whole Mordremoth thing, but more for the ramifications of Mordremoth’s eventual death; does Nightmare go away when the thing that was the arbiter of it dies? How will their minds be affected by that? He knows he’s not all there in the head since being converted, but he’s almost afraid that if Mordremoth dies, he’ll be lost and without a cause any longer.

All in all, it’s great fun! Lots of character development for all sylvari, whether Dreamer, Soundless, or Nightmare.

Astral is correct. It is used as a warning. The consumable is used if you double click it, period, no matter what. HOWEVER, if the map is full, it will be used AND you will not be able to get into the map to you friend.

Say you wanted to get into a map in the Silverwastes that’s at 95% as advertised in the LFG tool. Usually those maps are full. If you partied up and tried to use the teleport stone, it would use the stone up but you WOULDN’T be able to get into that map (just as if you clicked “join” from the right click menu and it gives you a “map full” error).

As for auto clicking for opening bags? I have NO idea. But the above is just to clear up the deal with instrument macros for those who may not know.

I have one of each class so classes don’t apply….well maybe except guardian. I feel like I just steam roll through stuff on my guard. I want a challenge, darn it!

As for races:

Humans — I have NEVER liked playing humans in any video game. I’ve tried it. I can’t stand it. No real reason other than personal preference.

Norn — Slightly better than humans because bears and leopards and tattoos. Still perceive them as humans. Don’t like humans.

Asura — I tried, I really did. Their armour turned me off from them though.

Charr — Probably the second best race (in my opinion!). I like them because cats, but they’re too large and it’s the perceived slowness of their gait that makes me not like them.

Sylvari — All 8 of my characters are sylvari. They’re perfect for me. All hail salads.

Sorry for not mentioning it earlier Gaile, but I’m a player from NA, Virginia to be exact. I noticed on reddit there are other people experiencing the same issue from NA servers. I’ll be sure to link this response there, granted the forums work! Responding to threads is spotty because the website will not connect sometimes for several minutes.

When doing the pathping, it is coming back with an “Access denied.” message. I have tried several times to no avail.

As the title says, I have been getting constant (every 3-5 minutes) disconnects. When trying to restart the launcher, most often it will say that there is a connection error. I have to forcefully close the launcher and try again, after which it seems to work. Log in, DC, rinse a repeat.

I’m not entirely too computer savvy but I did follow the connectivity guide and do a diagnostic check. There is one part in particular that shows high packet loss.

For someone who usually fails hard at JPs, I did this last night with two guildie friends and we had a BLAST! Sure, some parts were confusing and there were some points where I fell over and over again and didn’t think I’d make it; only to finally get it and have that sense of achievement!

I also like that it wasn’t ALL jumping. Some of it was “Where do I go now? Do I dare explore the area down there or will it lead to a dead end?” and that was probably the best part. Thank you ANet! This JP, while long, is probably my fave now!

This is a horrible thing to trigger epilepsy or migraines, really. I’m not prone to either and I still got a massive headache after trying (and failing) to taxi to populated SW runs.

If all glasses (not currently available, ie aviators, wide rim) were brought back for a short time, you can bet I’d buy them up in a heartbeat! +1 from me

Yep! Mine was done, if it makes any difference.

This happened to me once, on the same exact champ. Couldn’t replicate this, as all attempts following (during different Breach events) were successful and bug free.

On my mesmer on Victory of Death. Everything else works fine. Tried clicking on the story tab on two separate occasions and my entire computer ends up freezing. The only way to do anything is to hard close GW2 through the task manager.

Friend is also experiencing the same thing on his warrior and guardian.

I pretty much agree with OP. I’m relatively new to the game, started in August and working on my third 80. Sure there are bouts of boredom. Sure, there are things I believe can be done better in the game. But overall, being a pretty darn casual (self described) scrub, this game is perfect for me. :p

Maybe it’s just because I’m mainly a roleplayer in the game with my guild. Probably. I always think about how glad I was that I left another well to do MMO company coughBlizzcough in favour of ANet. Much happier since then!

I take forever and a day when I create sylvari. Other races? Eh, maybe a little long with charr or something. But all my salads have to be PERFECT or they end up getting deleted and remade half a dozen times before I’m content. >:I

I don’t have much to offer in terms of a discussion, mostly because you hit the nail on the head with nearly all of your points and it was beautifully worded and entertaining to read, to boot!

You make up your own stories, of course (edit: as in, my guilds have suggestion boxes on a forum where we can come up with fun activities to keep things moving along)! Yes, the same stories a lot of RPers do can easily be done in a chat program like Skype, however, I guess it’s the thrill of being able to meet new people on a daily basis and it’s also nice when you can see what someone’s character looks like right off the bat (so they don’t have to go into a lengthy discussion about their appearance).

I see where you are coming from and respect your opinion though, Rune. MMO RP isn’t for everyone. ;P

Donari and Guhracie are spot on. There are many ways to RP in the open world. For example, I’m in two guilds I hold very dear, an Ash Legion warband for my charr and a Nightmare Court guild for two of my sylvari. For the warband, we literally go out and type paragraphs between doing missions. Say we’re going to destroy some Inquest to rescue someone; our lines are short in between the fighting but we talk as our characters all the while. When we get back to the Citadel, we all sit down or patrol some place while RP walking and our emotes become longer and longer.

The Nightmare Court guild is less about open world and more about meetings and character development. Sure we go out and do training (especially the Retinue) sometimes or have twisted games of hide and seek for class (or team building exercises, lectures, etc, all in character), but a bulk of the story telling happens around court meeting dates. We found ourselves a little out of the way cave without hostile mobs and go there when we want to interact. Our cave is like the bars in Divinity, only just for us.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, there’s no wrong way to RP. You can interact only in “say” and just speak as your character, or you can gather with groups of three or more and /me emote paragraphs together in a sort of comprehensive story, each of you contributing a reaction from your character to keep the dialogue flowing. I’ve seen some RP actual dynamic events out, and some just like to sit around a bar and build their characters from there.

I hadn’t realised the spinning death cam was a thing until I died recently. I joined when the cam was still so it took me by complete surprise. Adding another +1 to the “makes me queasy” crowd.
