ArenaNet is an AMERICAN based company that is a subsidiary of NCSoft, a Korean company. There are definitely differences in the “style” of the game they make. Just google “Eastern Vs Western MMOs”, I know its a thing, although I haven’t read too much into it myself.

Speaking purely on a pve front and ignoring things in pvp that would keep me interested (where the kitten is deathmatch or arenas?) 5 things that would massively improve dungeons.

1. complete boss fight overhaul. When I saw this video it blew my mind and they still haven’t shown either of the 20 man or 40 man raids yet.

2. remove the fractal cap. seriously what the kitten were they thinking with this one? unlimited levels to test your skill JK ITS CAPPED AT 81 oh you got there in a week when we thought it would take years? LOL kitten YOU CAPPED AT 49. we have 55 ar at fractal 48 i take like 200hp per tick on maw but at 50 its an instant wipe. skill based progression my kitten .

3. Heroic mode for dungeons. better rewards for harder fights? sounds good to me. hopefully the datamined info proves right and we get some form of hardmode soon but until we get confirmation i wont hold my breath

4. A reason to show off in game. Ive said this for a while that there is not much reason to progress in fractals since you can get all the weapons at level 20. how about a hue change on the effect of the fractal weapons based on your highest personal reward level? fotm20 its white fotm 30 its blue fotm 40 its green fotm 50 its red etc. this way outside of actually playing the dungeon you can show off that you have worked kitten your character.

5. ties into #4 and #3. give better account bound rewards from specific bosses. a unique set of weapons or armor that drops from simin or lupi or laurent. give something to show off that you killed whatever boss in hardmode without it being as stupidly rare as recipes and not something that you can sell so eventually they are a gold or two on the auction house.

These wont make the game perfect but its a kitten good start

Yeah, its not perfect. I, frankly, prefer the $15/mo option, but I also NEED to know my MMO isn’t going to be dead in 2 months. I had faith in GW2 to last, and I’m not disappointed. Its been a year since launch and I see people while leveling. I fight a vetran mob or start an escort quest and people join me. I won’t be trying another MMO because I find that GW2 is part of a rare group of MMOs that has “succeeded” where other have “failed”.

its not only succeeding its flourishing. unfortunately for me the direction they took the game is a complete 180 from where I was hoping that it would go.

The GW2 option is better because people can come back after a bit without seeing the “F2P” label (I see this and think “yuck” because the F2P crowd isn’t the same type of community that a well established game is. They also tend to use the excuse “Hey, its free” around every corner) or they pay and have to take the risk to play the game, or they come back, pay, and see the world completely dead.

i agree with you up until this point. yes the b2p model does have its benefits (all the goldsellers accounts on free weekends etc) but the direction that they have taken the game with almost exclusive fluff content is because of this payment model in the first place. It has to appeal to the widest audience while coming out with constant content to give those people a reason to log in constantly. When quantity and speed are the focus over quality the game suffers and guild wars is suffering in this respect.

eve model $15 a month but you can use in game money to buy more time

wildstar is going after a very niche hardcore pve market as well as a hardcore pvp market. by going f2p or b2p requires appealing to a broad market to get them to spend money in your cash shop. by being a monthly fee they don’t have to dumb things down to the lowest common denominator.

Imagine we had a tool like Recount which gives an accurate accounting of damage. Then imagine you are a full condition necro maxed out for bleeds/duration. What would you think if you saw that all you were doing was “white” damage and nothing at all related to bleeds?

Even if damage meters were fine in terms of design philosophy, the game really couldn’t support them in its current state.

What blows me away is that people in this game call themselves casual and wear it like a badge of honor as though playing badly and making mistakes are something to be proud of. How many times do you hear “oh i know the best spec/gear/etc but id rather play …”? They are making a conscious decision to play worse then they are capable of being.

and the thing is they talk down to those of us who work on being better on playing better on becoming the best of the best. They tell us we aren’t allowed to dictate how they play. Its their game too and its their choice, but don’t you dare kick them from a group or they will start posting to reddit about how you scammed them out of their tokens.

If anyone dies during the fight the entire group fails. the mob has to be chosen from the group in the middle and he has to be engaged as the boss dies (maybe even the entire fight with the boss) and killed shortly after without losing aggro.

That is not true, we got the achievement even though everyone but me died. Everyone got the achievement once we killed the Foreman and cleaned up the last group.

We went out of combat between killing Foreman Spur and the last group.

The achievement is fairly buggy.

fair enough i’ve only ran it 3 times and everytime we killed this boss the same way as the video posted and people got the achievement. Which clearly means that one of the requirements is to have me in your group.

Titles in general are worthless. Just a string of characters resting underneath your name.

I personally love titles as long as they can be worn to show an actual accomplishment. for example being the first guild on a server to finish a raid in hardmode and walking around with that title made you feel like a kitten. Carving 25 pumpkins in LA doesnt quite have the same feeling. The best title in the entire game isn’t even obtainable in game (GWAMM)

There is this prevalent idea that you can even see on the forums where people are actually against forming groups and joining guilds. They believe that all content should be made to solo or be able to 1 shot on the first try with random pugs and that anet is FORCING them to group with others.

This is all brought along by the statement “play how you want” which is by far the most detrimental statement I have ever seen used by a playerbase

I use Banners, Fury, Vuln, Might, Food, Potions, Sigils, stacks and runes in my estimations. I would like to use ranger stuff because it would be great and change a lot (with spotter certain builds could use Bloodlust where they current use Perception and get a massive DPS boost) but it’s just not practical since almost nobody has a fully geared ranger. And those that do, almost none of them enjoy playing it.

The only thing truly wrong with the path (besides being too long time-wise for the reward) is the tetris puzzle thing with the electrified floor. The hologram you have to lure to the door almost always aggros on the wrong person and it takes way longer than it should to finish simply due to bad AI.

Solution for Anet: stop making encounters that rely on the NPC ai to work, or enemy mob ai to work. since your ai sucks, it makes any ai reliant encounter inherently frustrating.

yup everything else in the dungeon is decently fresh and a step up in terms of design. They still have a ways to go to make a “good” dungeon but this is an acceptable path.

It’s definitely not geared towards the casual gamer.

It is and is easily tested. I have played for over a year. What do I have that is unobtainable by a fresh 80? Other then a couple backpack skins from available content everything including Legendaries are available to be purchased via gem>gold conversion. I remember logging into WoW for the first time and seeing some high level raiders and thinking that will be me some day when i get good enough. Guild Wars 2 is missing that element and it really is a shame.

For the carrot, I’ve just finished grinding my way to 500 artificer via collecting mats rather than buying them and I felt like gouging my eyes out at the end. It wasn’t fun but they have made it so that its the only reliable way of getting ascended weapons.
