Unidentified dyes can give you any dye from fine to rare.
Mace+Focus Area Retaliation is probably one of my favorite self combos on the Guardian. 3 blocked attacks, regen, DoT, AND area retaliation? Yes please.
Resetting traits in this game is cheap to the point of trivial. Just have fun with your builds.
Are you sure your mailbox isn’t full?
Deathfrost, what I’m saying is that even with the DR and whatnot, the silver you get from the dungeon completion is still enough to BUY you good gear on the trading post. I seriously doubt you are doing that many dungeons if you are leveling that slowly.
Just a question…why would you waste dungeon tokens on non-level 80 gear which you are going to be replacing anyway? Just use gear from random drops. Cheaper, cost-effective, and it’ll still get you through PvE content…
Dungeons aren’t just for the hardcore. I have done dungeons with people who are doing it their first time, who will definitely down/die a few times, who probably could’ve been that much more skilled in not drawing aggro, etc. However, none of those things make a dungeon impossible. What makes a dungeon impossible is not going in with a plan, rushing content on your first time, not listening to party members who have done the content before. If I’m with new players, I don’t have in mind a speed clear, but I do expect them to follow instructions if I’m going to show them how to clear a specific path of the dungeon.
Our group started killing the first few golems, but then when they started spawning en masse, you need to kite them around the other areas of the map where Zojja isn’t. Best piece of advice is if you go down, target the golems with your attacking downed skills, don’t try to heal, res quickly if you die. If I remember correctly the waypoint isn’t too far. Also, only res others if you aren’t in trouble of going down. My group, on our first try through that, managed to finish it. To be honest, it reminded me of CoF bomb planting room lite. Then again, all of the dungeon defend events are starting to remind me of “CoF lite”.
My dungeon experience last night:
(1) Sit in Lion’s Arch saying in /map, “Level 80 LFG for any dungeon”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~number/difficulty of bosses defeated once he/she was in the group … but he/she received the full number of tokens for “completing” the dungeon path*They could just make it so you can’t kick people in dungeons unless they are offline.
In which case people wouldn’t run dungeons with randoms for another reason. Sometimes you do get stuck with the immature person who seems to think he is all that and doesn’t need to help or follow simple instructions.
I think out of “half that player base” some people are mentioning, at least half of those whining can be dismissed due to lack of understanding of when the game day resets. The game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT, not catered to everyone’s individual time zones.
Purina, you got 20 tokens on that run because it was your second run of the day, not your first. The day doesn’t reset until 12 AM GMT, not your personal timezone.
No it was a different day… I went to bed… had some fun with the misses.. slept all night… got up and ate breakfast… got online and ran it again… my calendar even showes it was a different day?
Sure, it was a different day for YOU! Why do people not listen to what is actually being said?
IT IS NOT A DIFFERENT DAY IN THE GAME! The game day is 12:00:00 AM GMT to 11:59:59 PM GMT. Have you ever noticed that your daily achievements don’t reset based on your own personal timezone? Your dungeon clears don’t reset either…these are all based on game time.
Each dungeon path awards 60 tokens for the first clear of the day. 20 are given for each run afterward. There is no difference who you run it with. The tracking is done for each person individually.
what happened to the 1 hour DR?
That DR is still there. But the 20 token run was not DR…
Per the latest patch notes, each dungeon run awards 20 tokens at completion, with an additional 40 if it is your first clear of the day (this day being game day and should have been made more clear by the devs.) So 60 tokens first run of the day, and 20 tokens every run after, without DR. Since that is exactly what you got, you were not hit with DR. The day has not reset yet…there is about 5 hours left to go for the game day to reset.
As for the other issues, lava field is still hit or miss and no one who wants to actually complete the bomb planting room actually attempts to fight them. As far as I know, no group has actually successfully fought all of the mobs through the entire 200 seconds. At some point or another you need to kite. With random groups or less skilled ones you should just kite from the beginning.
Purina, you got 20 tokens on that run because it was your second run of the day, not your first. The day doesn’t reset until 12 AM GMT, not your personal timezone.
On a side note, I know the “timer” is off for this game. My daily resets not at midnight, but sometime around 4 in the afternoon. That could be maybe the issue?
Daily resets are the same for ALL PLAYERS. The day resets at midnight GMT, not your local time.
There is no way for anyone under 1300 or so range to hit him without taking the platforms to the middle. Not sure how much damage your ranged people are doing but it took us an hour with one ranger. Granted we forgot that the engineer could pop his mortar for extra damage in the beginning but like I said, once we hit that 25% the mortar was gone instantly.
@Fluffycalico, that is what we did last night and it took an hour. I would prefer not to sit through that boring fight again.
You DO realize that you can get THE EXACT SAME stats on crafted gear, right. You DO REALIZE that the ONLY reason to do these is for aesthetic reasons. Everything that comes out of the dungeon has an equivalent that can be obtained in another fashion, the only difference being the way they look.
These dungeons are not meant to be puggable, at all, ever, in any way shape or form. PERIOD.
If you do nto liek them, guess what? you don’t have to do them. If you think it is too much of a grind to get the gear, thats fine, you can get the same stats on gear much easier to obtain. No one is forcing you to do these rediculously hard, and incrdibly long dungeons. You do not have to do them. At all, ever. People who DO overcome them are given nothing but bragging rights.THIS! Exactly this! Dungeons are not meant for PUG groups!
I’ve been doing them with PUGs just fine. Don’t see what your problem is.
That’s what we had thought. Thanks for confirming it!
So last night my friends and I did CoE explore for the first time and chose the front door path. This isn’t a QQ about Subject Alpha (while he is pretty hard I did like that by the end of the dungeon we actually took him down with only four in the party =D). No, my question is about how to clear the room with the lava and Evolved Destroyer troll being protected by the shield.
We had one Ranger with 1500 range. Next highest range was Engineer’s mortar elite. Finally it was me the Guardian with 1200 on scepter.
Only the Ranger and mortar could hit the Destroyer and be able to reasonably do any damage without dying. And then when you get the Destroyer down to 25% or so he starts spawning the Lava Shards or whatever and that one shots the mortar. At the end we were left with only the Ranger doing damage to it.
My issue is that this one part of the dungeon took our group over an hour to do (one of our party left during this part since it was taking way too long and he had RL stuff to take care of.) I would like to know what we were doing wrong. The one other guy we partied with had done this path before and he said “this is how the other groups are doing it.”
To summarise the patch:
So, if I get into a group of 4 other people in a same guild (lets say Guild X), and we reach up to the last phase of a dungeon, say CoF path 2 (Magg) for easy reference.
Then those 4 people decide to kick me and invite another Guild X member to finish up the dungeon.
So I get nothing, and all 5 of them get full reward.
I would have thought more thought was given to this before implementation.
Erk, didn’t even think of that. Yes it is pretty terrible implementation. Especially painful for randoms.
I believe the DR on tokens may be a side effect/bug due to them now being rewarded completely at the end as a completion award.
I hope people realize that by “day” the devs mean the game day, which resets at midnight GMT, not your personal time zone. I haven’t seen issues with the DR system yet personally.
One thing I’ve noticed from all of the defend NPC events regardless of dungeon is that they aren’t defend NPC events, they are kite like you are chickens with your heads cut off events. This is the only way to successfully survive them without the NPC dying.
CoF has not been fixed as described. Magg still paths incorrectly through lava and will still run in the wrong direction if he sees a mob he doesn’t like. In fact it just seems like the patch made it slightly more difficult for him to take damage from mobs (but he still dies pretty instantly from flame damage). When he dies in the lava fields he doesn’t respawn at the start area unless at least one of the party members runs back there.
However, I am glad that the rock allowing the jump over the door during the bomb planting event has been removed.
I would just like to request that these patches actually be tested before being implemented so that the fixes they say they fix are actually made.
I still like CoF. Just the bugs are very annoying.
Another issue is probably that AC is the first dungeon. And dungeon play is so much more different than all the PvE content players had been doing before it. I know I never used dodge before AC unless I accidentally did a double tap on my keyboard. AC story mode (as well as WvW) basically taught me that “hey, dodge is here to save you, use it!” Most casual or newbie (not noob, just new) players do not have the concepts in mind necessary to complete a dungeon (even in story mode). That’s why it helps to have an experienced player walk them through it…but with the nerf to story mode rewards this is becoming less and less popular unless you have willing guildies or friends.
The rewards are from the RNG same as for any other rewards in the game. It’s not a bug and it’s not broken. The levels and rarity of the items are set though.
I think he is looking at a mystic coin and thinking it’s a gold!
I would agree except iirc mystic coins aren’t awarded for map completion, only daily/monthly achievements.
Even if it is a bug it is probably extremely low priority to fix since it is still easily completed (get to high 70s or 80 , do a dungeon, you get over 100k exp easily as end reward, or crafting 100k exp works as well).
For 100% map completion.
If you look at the twins’ descriptions, they are more powerful when they are near each other. This corresponds, iirc, to the two AoE circles on the ground. When they overlap, they’re more powerful. The solution is to have one or two people on one twin while the others are on the other one and draw them away from each other. This is possible. As soon as one twin is killed the encounter becomes really easy. Need to dodge a lot though.
AC story mode is pretty insane. I ran it with 3 other friends and one random, but the four of us were on Skype and just party chatted the other guy to keep him in the loop. We didn’t party wipe (still had quite a few individual deaths) but we were also all lvl 40+ (so geared above lvl 35) and one of us had already done the story before. I still find AC’s story mode to be the hardest one I’ve done out of 3 so far (AC, CM, and SE).
Duus, read the wiki…there’s a reason that information is on there.
Token numbers have ALWAYS been 30 on first run of the day and 20 on all subsequent runs. This has not changed at all.
Zoning will reset this number. Logging off will reset this number. Switching characters will reset this number. etc etc.
Every time I go into a dungeon I hope that someone (or two) shows up with a warrior. Correctly spec’ed (not a warrior so not sure what this actually is), they can show up with a greatsword and do both DPS and tanking o.O Always helps the run. This is even post-patch btw.
All explore paths have to be cleared as well.
Melee on the flame golem is actually quite effective. I was “tanking” the golem but it seems the ranged members of my group kept going down while I was able to dodge roll pretty much everything he sent at me. Maybe I was just better at noticing the tells :shrug:
Last night we had a CoF path #2 run which hit all of the highlights as to why the infamous dungeon patch is resonating so negatively with the playerbase who actually wants to play CoF regardless of whether or not it really is a speed run.
I run CoF most of the time with a group of people who I found randomly and since then have seen at CoF for a few days now (I only recently hit level 75 and now 80 so I had only done CoF for about two days pre-patch and now coming into the third day post-patch). Yes, this started as a PUG. Eventually, we started grouping together a lot just because we recognized each other’s IGNs and knew that we were all decent players who could get through the content.
On to the story. We had 4 players (including me) who I had grouped with previously and one random. We had 2 warriors, 1 necro, 1 ranger, and 1 guardian. This run went “fine”, meaning: 1) Magg again aggro’ed everything randomly and promptly pathed through lava (heading AWAY from the magmacyte while doing so) and died, but we eventually got him to spawn at the magmacyte, and 2) we only died about 2 times each on the bomb planting event by kiting since the mobs are even more impossible to fight but still finished first try.
One player (a warrior and also not the random) then left the party calling it a day. We got another random and the final party looked like 1 warrior, 1 necro, 1 ranger, 1 guardian, and 1 thief. This run was terrible. I’m going to skip over the areas where we almost party wiped due to people not coordinating properly, inability to tank, and people straight up refusing to do the content and focus on the actual game problems: 1) If even one person dies in the lava fields, the chance of getting Magg to the magmacyte drops basically to zero, and we had to reset the run twice, 2) If your party doesn’t have at least 3 people built to tank, you are going to have maybe a 10% chance of success at the bomb planting event, 3) If Magg is burning after the bomb planting event ends and drops after the door opens, the event still considers itself failed and you don’t get the chest reward.
I do not mind the increased difficulty. We were still able to do the whole run just fine (even though the bugged event in the second run meant we walked away with even less rewards). What I do not like is that there was an extremely hurried patch to the dungeon content with no communication from the devs or staff which introduced more bugs to the previously “not so bugged” content. This, in conjunction with the also hurried and bugged patch to discourage speed runs is discouraging all dungeon runs, not just speed runs. As you can see, our group, even in the face of diminished rewards, still decided to do the same path again, because we want the gear. Unfortunately, the pool of players we now have to draw from to do the runs with is severely limited due to players’ unhappiness with the handling of the patch, and that is negatively affecting current and new players’ view of the dungeon content even more.
The only problem I see with Eveningstar’s latest post is this: I’ve never seen the need to have VoJ renew that often.
I always keep VoJ on cooldown in dungeons or WvW because its active ability is just that good, especially with allies all around me, but in normal PvE I rarely feel the need to use it because the normal PvE content is already easy enough as it is.
The problem then becomes, in the aforementioned dungeons and WvW, that people/silvers/golds don’t drop fast enough to proc the instant renewal in a time that makes having the trait more useful than anything else.
Of course, I am saying this as a level 80. But I feel that for non-level 80s the other trees are still more useful.
I have to say also that I hate that Zeal looks so good on paper but in practice is just so much less so. The stuff with the symbols? Miniscule to the point of almost not noticing the increased damage/size when you’re playing.
Shelter is amazing in PvP and WvWvW. In fact, that’s the only place where I use it. But yeah, I feel that there is no reason to ever use Healing Breeze and my racial heal (Healing Seed as Sylvari) is terrible so Signet of Resolve it is.
I used to run Mace/Shield for my Guardian’s “tank” mode until I came on the forums and everyone was gushing about the Focus’s 3 blocked attacks…That made me take another look at focus (which I had abandoned around level 10 or so), and since then I haven’t looked back. It’s kind of sad that the focus gives me, in my opinion, much better CC and protection options, especially when I need to use my Guardian as a tank. You’d think a Shield would be the go-to choice there.
Btw, Flurry is Melee ranged AoE. If you have a bunch of mobs in front of you in melee range, Flurry will hit all of them.
amradio already explained how it works the best. Everyone’s burning gets put into the queue, with the first “in line” always being the highest condition damage. So basically you’re adding your burning damage to the line, but that line gets shuffled based on highest damage first.
IF it’s the case that they will be fixed in terms of balance and bugs, why did they buff the difficulty when players had chosen NOT to do things as intended due to issues with not being able to?
Nothing screams “I am out of touch with my own dungeon I designed” than buffing something players had to work around, even if the bug fix for the previous section was needed. it’s ALWAYS those defend the npc parts that seem to be balanced and tuned by a chimpanzee and then they go and buff the difficulty on them?
Something is NOT right there.
that, added to the pointlessness of the dungeons due to reward lowering and high repair costs only reminds players of the travesty that was D3. And we all know how that went
Anet didn’t murder my family, but if you don’t voice opinion then it’s seemingly assumed they think they know what you want better than you do, and for most, that just seems arrogant, see the dev response on the matter for an example of arrogance and then again try not to feel the backlash is justified and deserved
Yes, this exactly.
And OP is just asking to be trolled. Perhaps he is one himself…
Robert’s post just makes it sound like a disgruntled developer “fixed” his code so that players could no longer play his content.
The issue with CoF (if there was any at all…to be honest, CoF was the most enjoyable dungeon I’ve run) was never the bomb planting event. Like Robert said, it was the escorting Magg through the lava fields part along with ease of fighting the four acolytes and Gaheron at the end.
Buffing the bomb planting event only feels like a vindictive jab at the players who already didn’t have the damage output to cope with the extremely high number of elites spawning, which forced them to kite in the first place.
And finally, if you want to fix Magg not following players through the lava field, at least make it so that he routes through in a semi-intelligent manner. Last run we had a part where he ran INTO the lava, promptly died, and res’ing him was impossible (due to the ridiculous amount of damage he was taking from the lava) without the use of TWO guardians’ Signets of Mercy. I seriously doubt that this is an example of a dungeon that can be run by a casual group of players.
Finally, reducing the amount of rewards to the pittance that they are now is just punishing players for even doing dungeons at all. If anything I would have reduced the exp reward, not the amount of money given.
I’ve always wondered what skill the tiny blue bubbles were. Now I know. Thank goodness I am playing a super-tall Sylvari Guardian lol.
