If GW2 vanilla is free, I’d like 50 codes emailed to me ASAP. Thanks Anet.
Oh wait that’s right, it’s not free and every single thing about this HoT release has been deception and/or outright lies.

Any youtuber in a partner program is a shill. You cannot trust a word they say, because their income is dictated solely by views.
GW2 has had no meaningful content in over a year. Living story is not content, imho. No new races, no mounts, no significant changes to the gameplay whatsoever. I don’t know what they’re doing with all the gemstore money, (maybe it’s going to Wildstar) but they sure as hell aren’t using it to develop the game.
Back in GW1 – an expansion was an entire CONTINENT of content. Nowadays, a full-price expansion means 1 class and some guild halls. My how times have changed.
The marketing department for Anet should be fired. No reprimand, no unpaid leave… Clean out your desk by the end of business hours.
The fact that anyone was allowed to market their game this way, with this pricing structure, is either malicious or incompetent… either way they have no business working for you.

Ah look, Anet is deleting every thread that criticizes their horrendous pricing model and making sure the other threads get lost in a 900 page archive. Good job Anet. Stay classy.

Defending Anet to the very end. How noble.

This is why GW2 is dying.

So questioning the value of something a business is trying to push on you is entitlement? You keep using that word, I honestly think you don’t know what it means.
Come on now.. The core features Anet has listed are all there is. They’re not hiding anything. What you see is what you get.

The incompetence of Anet right now gives me such little hope for the future of this series. I just don’t understand how a company can be run so poorly and be so out of touch with the community. There really are no words.

Or, here’s an idea, Anet could not gouge loyal customers by forcing them to buy the core game twice and have an expansion only option that is priced appropriately
No, you’re paying twice for the core game if you own GW2 already. You won’t get an extra code.
They didn’t forget. They’re just consumed with greed and a disdain for their customer base.

What continual support are you talking about? Anet hasn’t updated this game in a meaningful way since they blew up Lions Arch and even then not so much.
We are talking about Guild Wars 2 right? Guild Wars 2 the game with no additional content besides living story right?
By that logic, I want a refund on the 2nd copy of the core game I didn’t want or ask for.

Gotta love fanboys… Telling someone one thing and then behind their backs doing another isn’t LYING. Right guys? Right??
Hahaha

The sad part is they probably thought this was terribly clever/sneaky.

Anet hasn’t continually expanded anything. Living story is a joke. After this expansion it’ll likely be another 2 years of stagnation and mediocre living story. Thanks but no thanks.

It’s called a good old fashioned cash grab and the fanboys are eating it up.
ESO has a staggering amount of content, both dynamic and traditional MMO quests. It’s got mounts, guild questlines, vamprisim and lycanthropy… GW2 in its current state feels like a shallow puddle by comparison.
It’s all soulbound because GW2 has no concept of what a loot system should be.

It’s just arrogance, plain and simple. Lot of people are voting with their wallets on this one.

My friends laughed too. Nobody is coming back to GW2 for that price.

Europeans pay more because you have VAT.

The content I’ve seen so far warrants 15 bucks at best. Show me something that’s worth 99 bucks and I’ll gladly pay it. Right now, they’re just banking on fanboys who are so desperate for new content they’ll pay anything. Well guess what Anet, you’re not the only MMO in town and people have plenty of choices.

They won’t change the pricing because it would involve something reasonable like respecting the community who has been paying your bills and keeping your lights on for the last 2 years.
I’m not convinced Anet plays their own game.
Price is a joke. If GW2 weren’t practically abandonware they’d have some legs to stand on. This expansion isn’t additional bonus content, it’s a much needed blood transfusion into a dying game. They should have known better than to price it like this, but greed rules the day after all.

I don’t give a crap about gems. If I want them I’ll buy them. They need to stop inflating the price of the content by tacking on monopoly money and give us an actual value proposition. Jesus I shouldn’t have to explain this to Anet, this is like Business 101…
Don’t try and rationalize this… It’s a bad deal no matter how you cut it and people aren’t gonna be fooled so easily.
No, it doesn’t come with an extra core game code.
If you already own the game, you are forced to buy another copy of the core game if you want the expansion.
Anet hasn’t shown me anything worth 99.99… Hell they haven’t shown me anything worth 49.99.
I think a lot of people are gonna take a pass on this.

Exactly. It’s a slap in the face to everyone that has supported this sinking ship of a game for the last two years.
ESO is superior. I’m sorry to say. Has so much more to do and feels like a true MMO.

The level of arrogance coming from Anet right now has reminded me why I don’t play GW2 anymore. You guys have been milking the gem store for 2 years now with no meaningful updates and now you want to gouge people with this ridiculous pricing format? Making people rebuy the core game?
It takes serious balls to come out here and pull this stuff, Anet. It’s almost like you don’t realize you’re game community has been in a dire state for a long time now and this was your chance to win people over. What a joke.

People who say GW2 is too easy or casual don’t know what they’re talking about. A lot of the content is crazy stupid hard.

Please announce pricing and possible Collector’s Edition versions soon. I’d like to be able to get my purchase in ASAP!
So, I’m just curious – when can we pre-order the expansion?
Also, will you be throwing any pre-order bonuses our way?
Thanks
Comcast… Urbana, IL – Patching fails at 1400k

This has been discussed many times before and it won’t happen.
The big problem is that console manufacturers place restrictions on how often games can be updated and want to inspect and approve each one before it goes out. Apparently they also charge developers for each update.
The only practical solution to that I’ve seen is to keep console and PC players completely separate and create a two tier system where updates come out first on the PC version and then later on consoles, maybe bundled together into 1 update per month.
Which in some ways might be better because it would mean patches would go out with all the bug fixes that usually come later, but I imagine it would also frustrate a lot of people that they’re having to wait longer for everything.
(Also whilst I realise it was hyperbole I want to point out that there’s no way it would increase sales 2000%. GW2 has already sold over 3 million copies world wide, 2000% of that would be 60 million. That’s more than the total number of Xbox One’s and PS4s combined.)
Wrong.
PS4 supports self publishing of patches. No approval needed. This was one of the selling points of the console to indy devs during E3 of 2013… It was literally all over the internet, being reported on by every major gaming news site in real time.
We’re absolutely going to see more sandbox stuff – starting with the home instance. No doubt about it.
While I haven’t seen any racism lately, I have no doubt it happens… I’ve seen horrible stuff in map chat all the time, and reporting does almost nothing because it continues to happen.
I remember logging onto WoW a few months back and I (jokingly) accidentally said “Canada sucks” in global chat. I was suspended for 72 hours. I guess some games police their communities, and for some like Guild Wars it’s the wild west.
Quick question, would a 980m be able to run GW2 max settings in supersampling mode and maintain solid framerates during crowded events?
I gotta agree with everyone else here – leave the champion bags.
ArenaNet needs to embrace farming on some level. If they don’t want certain areas farmed, they should create an area where people can farm in peace.
The only places where I’m against farming would be where it disrupts normal PvE activities.
Tops Ways to Make S2 better than S1:
1. Never ever introduce a character like Scarlett, or any non-orginal character concept cannibalized from another copyrighted media.
2. Understand and acknowledge the server population deficits inherent to over a year of lackluster content when creating boss events, such as Tequatl.
3. If any of your Living Story content involves zerging, scrap it automatically and fire any developer involved in its creation.
4. Immediately implement player housing, Guild Halls, player mounts, and begin working on both Cantha and Elona.
5. Call up Blizzard and have them explain to you what Loot 2.0 is, then offer to buy them all pizza. Take detailed notes and listen to everything they say, because they know more than you.
6. For every gemstore item you create, there should be a corresponding piece of actual in-game content that is both meaningful and relevant. If any developer suggests a gemstore item without a corresponding piece of actual in-game content, fire them immediately for gross incompetence and negligence.
7. Immediately incorporate new races and classes into the game. Your primary focus should be developing new permanent content for the game.
8. Fire your writing team and hire a full writing team of established fantasy authors. Call up R.A. Salvatore and offer him a full-time consulting position at your home office. All story content will need to be personally signed and approved by Mr. Salvatore.
9. All living story content must have the requirement of not punishing casual players, and at the same time, not boring hardcore players. If multiple tracks or play areas need to be made, so be it.
10. Assemble a committee of the players who have spent the most time with GW2 and create a consulting committee. At regular and frequent intervals, you will ask questions and glean information from people who understand what needs to be done to fix this game. Humble yourselves if you have to. Do whatever it takes to do what needs to be done and get the advice that you need to solve real and relevant problems with the game. Simply ignoring problems with your game does not make them go away. ASK THE PLAYERS.
I thought S1 was an incomprehensible mess, and Scarlett was probably the most cliche and trite of the characters. Killing her off was one of the best decisions they ever made. In the history of the game. Ever.
Knowing Anet, some dev just mashed CTRL-V as hard as they could and then turned the office lights off and went home to watch Game of Thrones.
Haven’t heard anything from Anet about anything. I guess it’s kinda hard when you’ve pulled your entire staff to manage the Wildstar open beta, I guess.
So A-net… is this game still alive? When can we expect any sort of meaningful update or content addition that isn’t some gemstore skin?
Game is a freakin ghost town, guys. Not good.
How could they take away my lettuce farm?? WTF???
