How many more awful "releases"?

I just can’t remain silent about this anymore. GW2 is seriously in trouble. This feels like abandonware at this point. You ask the devs what their vision of GW2 is and they prattle about the Scarlett living story.

I’m not sure how to defend this game anymore. Blowing up Lions Arch doesn’t change the fact that this game feels tired and played out. The developers are truly out of touch… Almost in a “playing violins as the Titanic goes down” level.

$12.50 Charge for Convenience of Lions Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

darkdomino.9578

I’m finding it really hard to be outraged about this. I paid for the permanent airship pass because it’s amazingly convenient… and when they rebuild LA, it will continue to be even more convenient.

10 or 12 bucks to never have to run to the lagfest that is LA again? Sign me up, please.

and all the people complaining that this is some huge conspiracy and blah blah blah… You guys are playing the wrong game if this is what kittenes you off. Guild Wars has always been pay-for-convenience from Day 1 and the fact that they’re selling airship passes should not suprise or infuriate you in the least.

There are a million other places you can go to do your trading… Any of the racial home cities for starters?

if you’re going to be infuriated about something, be infuriated about the fact that Guild Wars 2 hasn’t had a significant content update in over a year. Now THAT’S something you can be indignant about.

Dungeon is way too hard.

This dungeon was extremely hard for me. In fact, my crew and I wiped so many times that we were almost about to quit. It ended up taking us something like 3 hours to do the whole thing.

Eventually though, we learned from our mistakes, changed our strategy and were able to complete the dungeon.

I don’t want the dungeon nerfed, but these people claiming that this dungeon is easy are not being honest with you guys. It’s simply not true… This dungeon requires an enormous amount of coordination, dps, and luck to pull off.

I reject this notion that the dungeon is easy. Categorically.

Anet is not going to rebuild their game from the ground up just to use the Unreal engine. I’m sorry, but there’s no way this will ever happen. Decisions like these needed to be made on Day 1 of the planning stage of development.

Hey, you’re gonna need to use a 3rd party voice program – such as Skype

Steam also has a built-in voice chat functionality too.

Assuming you’re using Skype – you would start the call with your friend, then launch Guild Wars 2.

You may want to turn the music/sound down in-game so that you can hear the other person.

Hope this helps!

Nobody is denying that things like Super Adventure Box aren’t fun or interesting in their own regard.

People’s complaints are that they aren’t substantive. It’s not actual content… it’s a distraction. It’s like dangling keys in front of a baby… and as soon as the event is over, we’ll be back to square one again.

None of these events have any permanent impact on the game-world, or provide depth or meaning. In fact, the Super Adventure Box (from what I’ve read) is just one big high-five to Nintendo… that has literally nothing to do with the game world or furthering any sort of story. It was just some cool side project some Anet dev was working on.

Either way, people are hungry for actual meaningful content in this game… not just “VOTE FOR ELLEN KIEL IN LION’S ARCH” or more “<INSERT CREATURE TYPES> ARE ATTACKING <RANDOM LOCATION>!” – That isn’t content. That’s filler. That’s a distraction…. that’s all it is.

and as far as these “big projects” go… I’m skeptical. Something I’m hearing over and over among players is that ArenaNet’s budget is extremely tiny and all their income from the gemstore and box sales is being syphoned away to other projects like Wildstar. If this is the case, Guild Wars 2 is dead in the water. If 2014 rolls around and there aren’t definite plans for a MASSIVE release… I’m talking new races, new classes, new landmasses to explore, new quests, new hearts, etc etc etc… This game WILL stagnate and people will leave.

I won’t ever leave Guild Wars 2… but I gotta be honest here – there are some sweet MMOs coming up in 2014… Elder Scrolls Online being one of them. If Guild Wars 2 hasn’t gotten its act together by then, it’s going to take a back seat while I play something else for a while. Sorry Anet, that’s just business.

Dailies are burning people out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkdomino.9578

darkdomino.9578

If you’re doing ALL the dailies, it’s very possible that things could get fairly time intensive.

Dungeon runner? Fractal runner? Especially if you don’t have guildies online to help you out and have to try and find a PUG… Hell no you’re not finishing that kitten in 30 minutes.

I think a lot of people on here don’t know what they’re talking about. Yeah, if you pick the 5 easiest dailies from the main category and just do them for the chest… you’re gonna spend maybe 15-30 minutes.

but to do ALL the dailies, for both PvE and PvP? Yeah, 2 hours seems like a decent ballpark – especially if you get some annoying dailies.

but if we put all that BS aside for a while, and read the actual MESSAGE of what this guy is trying to say… He’s absolutely right. Dailies are boring, and they are not a reason to keep people playing.

I’ve heard the talk among my guildies as well. People hate doing dailies some days, and it’s only a cold reminder of how lifeless and dull GW2 has become. Whether or not you agree with me is up to you – it’s entirely subjective. Some people are ok with just doing dailies and that’s enough to keep them interested. Other people, like myself, don’t necessarily find it very fulfilling.

I used to be like some of these “hardcore” people and do ALL the dailies, everyday… but now I could really care less. If I’m on, I’ll pick the 5 absolute EASIEST dailies… Gatherer, Killer, Laurel Vendor, Karma Spender, etc… and get the daily chest while I chat it up with guildies on Mumble. That’s dailies for me now… just a thing to do to pass the time between releases.

Why is Performance Never/Rarely Addressed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkdomino.9578

darkdomino.9578

We have folks constantly working to improve performance, we’ve actually made quite a few perf updates this year. You’ll see more perf updates in the upcoming releases, we have a team working entirely on performance at all times that won’t be going away any time soon.

Even when I watch developers play their own game on Twitch, I can see the same poor performance, low frames, and whatnot on the developer’s own PC’s. Even the developers can’t run this game at a solid 60 FPS … it’s hilarious

This game is NOTORIOUS among just about everyone who plays it for having poor performance on just about every system. I know people with 3000 dollar liquid cooled desktop rigs who still experience framerate drops in WvW and the Clockwork Chaos.

This has been a constant source of frustration for me, ever since the Beta… I’ve been telling you guys for a YEAR now that your game needs to be optimized and everyone tries to shout me down… “GET A NEW PC LOLOLOLOL” … Spoiler alert, everyone has experienced huge framerate drops in this game. It’s got nothing to do with the hardware you’ve got.

So, don’t take this the wrong way – but you need to tell the “Performance Team” or whatever they’re called to pull some weekend shifts or something… cause the performance situation in GW2 is downright godawful. It makes me wonder if you guys are even playing your own game over there…. You should fire it up sometime and see how things really are.

Seriously… Is there some sort of account bug or am I just incredibly unlucky? I hear how people get 10 exotics if not more a week. Some players who’ve had their accounts for less than a month get a precursor sell it and make quick bank.

I go months without seeing a single exotic besides what I use!

I’ve only ONCE got an event claim ticket for a skin, and it was compete accident when I didn’t even like them.

My buddy quits and goes to WoW then comes back and gets two precursors two days in a row. I haven’t even gotten a fractal weapon!!!

Is there something wrong with my account, luck is clearly a factor but for this long never getting anything good wtf?

I’m half PvE Half PvP so I only got to R40 showing a clear significant time I spend in PvE and I’m lucky to get a 75ish exotic that sells for under a gold. Something has to be wrong.

The purpose of ascended gear

I am absolutely crest fallen by this patch. This game suited me to the tee. I have been playing it from the start and while many of the changes that come and go haven’t all been great, Anet has generally shown an enthusiasm to try out techniques that work for both the player and themselves.

This may very well be the game changer for me. It feels like one of those patches where in years to come we will look back and go, “Yeah, Guild Wars 2 was a good game until that blasted patch, shame.”

I have been revelling in the cosmetic progression of this game, spending much time customizing themed characters knowing the whole while that if I so chose, my ranger or warrior were essentially finished; the perfection of my vision. I had just committed full effort towards Frostfang as the garnishing touch to my Norn, only to be presented with this future abomination.

What a sad precedent this sets. Changing the numerous weapons on my characters and having to transmute each one is a soul sinkingly demoralising task. It is a gate, a trial in which I must pass in order to enjoy my characters again, not some fun adventure I choose to opt into. If I want my characters to be respectable I have to endure months of facile, unrewarding effort and gold expenditure.

That seems withering enough, but consider the Ascended Armour….

Sweet mercy, there just isn’t any feasible way I would ever have the time or perseverance to rework all of my 5 character’s superbly themed armour suits (not including alternates) into utterly unnecessary upgraded versions. Who is to say it ends here? It needn’t happen to begin with so the very fact they have opted to follow this route implies it will happen again in the future. A nightmarish cycle of dis-satisfaction.

I really do love this game but I fear this is the end for me. I doubt anybody cares but I feel an obligation to voice my dejection.

What you’re talking about is stagnation. Things have to change. It is the nature of an online game.

Adapt and improvise.

PSA: only 2 weeks for asc weapon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

darkdomino.9578

GW1 and GW2 both have grind.

Why?

Because a lot of people enjoy it. They are merely catering to the needs of EVERYONE and not just the needs of someone who plays 3 hours once a week.

You don’t have to grind anything in this game. You can skip hearts, do your living story, do whatever you want. You are not forced to get ascended weapons, you don’t need ascended weapons to enjoy the game.

This game is no different than any other game… If you invest more time into the game, you’re going to be rewarded for that time. There has to be an incentive to play more. There have to be high level rewards for the hardcore players… It can’t all be happy-go-lucky casual fun time.

And people kittening about the grind in GW2 need to play some other MMOs out there. GW2’s grind is NOTHING compared to some games. It’s a freakin cakewalk by comparison. You guys don’t know how good you’ve got it… But if you’ve never played any other MMORPGs in your life, you’d never know it.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m sorry if you’re one of these people who left the game for months, then came back and realized you missed stuff. Heck, I missed the entire Flame and Frost thing – and that’s nobody’s fault but mine. I was busy at the time and it wasn’t a priority.

These temporary events are fun and I see no reason why they shouldn’t continue them. This argument that just because Anet can’t cater to your personal schedule they shouldn’t do it is silly. When The Walking Dead airs on TV, what do they do? They say “Sunday @9PM”… My schedule doesn’t come into the equation. If I want to see that show… I better freakin be there on Sunday at 9. This doesn’t seem unusual or strange to me.

I’m really sorry that some people can’t make time to show up for these living story things and end up missing stuff. I really am. I feel for you… But ultimately it’s not Anet’s problem. It’s your problem. You have to adapt to the world, the world isn’t going to adapt to you.

I will say this though. I would like to see more permanent content. I’d like to see new landmasses, new areas, new dungeons and new classes/races. I want to see new weapons, such as crossbows, and new skills/spells. I want to see more significant content added to the game… Player housing, guild halls, mounts…. ANYTHING Anet… I’m begging you.

You’re not being rewarded for failure when you don’t complete the event on time.

You’re being rewarded for the 40 minutes you spent attempting it.

Many events in GW2 offer reduced or partial awards for failing. To me it’s an incentive… “See this? Imagine what it’d be if you had succeeded!”

I’ve been in clockwork events where all the kitten commanders all go to the same spot on the map and refused to listen to instructions and we fail. I can’t tell you how many times you see commanders in map chat wanting to posture and have kitten ing matches with other commanders instead of getting the work done.

You’re telling me I should be punished and get no reward because people are kittened and can’t finish the event?

No thanks. I’ll take my reward for failure, and you can take your phony self righteousness.

A Proposal to Accommodate Player Diversity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkdomino.9578

darkdomino.9578

“timegating”

Haha… I’ve heard it all now.

Anet has repeatedly said that they will ALWAYS reward players for increased time investment.

Simply put… Your rewards for logging on once a week for 3 hours can’t equal the rewards of someone who plays for 3 hours every day. They just can’t. Even if you want those two “play styles” to be equal, they’re not. They never will be.

Anet wants people to play their game. Crazy notion. Nobody says you have to grind, you know. There is nothing that says you HAVE to do anything in this game.

The irony is that if GW2 catered to every ultra casual player that can’t play the game for more than a few hours a week, they’d get flak from everyone. Now people are giving them flak for rewarding people who invest more time in-game… Where does it stop??

Let’s just send everyone the best items in the game for nothing then. No work, no time investment…. Everyone gets everything right off the bat. Doesn’t matter if you play for 2 hours or 200 hours… Absolutely ridiculous. I am at a loss for words.

The Quarterly report from NcSoft, which is a publicly held company, shows that Guild Wars 2 is doing fine.

“Fine” is an understatement:)

If their reports are even close to accurate then GW2 is bailing out the rest of the company right not. NCSOFT without GW2 would be losing money otherwise.

Which is good for us at least…

Indeed it is so…

I don’t want to overstate things. I think it’s doing well personally, but in reality, sales of the box have slowed. So I say it’s doing fine.

In reality I think that as time progresses, this game is going to pick up a lot of speed. When it releases in China it’ll be doing a lot better than fine. lol

Okay I got the numbers to end this debate (Q2 2013):

Q2 2013 PDF File (use download link) page 4-5

(Numbers in Million Korean Won)

Operating Profit: 62,248
All Game Sales: 192,014
GW2 Sales: 84,791, up from 66,038 last Quarter

Costs of GW2 are not directly provided in this presentation.

…No matter: Which means without GW2 NCSOFT would be going bankrupt right now. Yes this game is here to stay Blizzard!

Indeed it is so…

Reading is a skill. So is knowing the difference between light and dark blue….You actually quoted the numbers for LINEAGE 1 and not GW2….GW2 is barely bigger than Aion at the moment.

The actual numbers for GW2 are 36,382 and then 28,899 so they are going down and nowhere near the Lineage 1 numbers.

I suspected as much.

The question now becomes: How is GW2 going to turn this around? I really hope this series doesn’t stagnate, but frankly I don’t see how they can continue to improve and innovate when they’re losing so many sales.

Well, it’s been a year and the game is pretty much the same game it was a year ago… I’m curious to know why that is, if not for financial reasons.

It’s been a year and I still sometimes see my character chop down trees with his pickaxe. Hell, there are bugs in this game that are still there from the beta.

If GW2 is making money, when are they going to start investing in this game? Temporary events every 2 weeks is great and all, and I’ve enjoyed all of them – but that’s not content.

Let’s put it this way: I’d trade 5 living story events or festivals for 1 new class. I’d trade 10 living story events for 1 new playable race.

The game is still the same as it was a year ago? Really?

Aside from the myriad bug fixes (there have been pages and pages of them, many not even documented), there were quality of life upgrades (the account wallet, aoe looting, the end of culling, previewing in the market place), the addition of the Fractals, WxP in WvW, a revamp of AC, new jumping puzzles, new dynamic events, new minigames.

Maybe you’re just not paying attention.

Again, I guess our definitions are different… I don’t consider jump puzzles and living story events to be significant improvements to the game. They’re fun to do, yeah… but it’s not the same as adding a new race, or giving people something truly “new” to do in-game.

As far as things like the wallet – yeah that’s useful. I’m not gonna sit here and deny that. But do you honestly look at the new improved wallet, and then at the game world and go “Yeah, this is different.”

Some people say that GW2 is losing money, that 400,000 active players at any given time is considered “low” for the industry… and that GW2 doesn’t have the cashflow to produce the kind of expansion-pack level content that people are asking for. (and by expansion-pack grade content, I mean new zones, new classes/races, new storylines – not just mini-events)

Other people seem to think that A-net is doing just fine, and has plenty of money coming in from the gemstore and box sales. I read an interview by one of the big buys at A-net and he basically said that the “market was healthy” and that they had no cashflow problems. He also said something to the effect that the Black Lion Trading Post was profitable and that “players were doing their duty” as far as microtransactions go.

Anyway – I’m curious to know what people think about this…. The disconnect for me is that if A-net has the money to produce large-scale content for GW2 and isn’t … why? If they don’t have the money, or willingness to re-invest in GW2 in a meaningful way… what’s the future of GW2?

People often hold up GW2’s free2play model as one of the best/fairest in the industry… is the model working? If so, when can we expect actual meaningful content, such as Guild Halls, new gameplay mechanics, new classes/races?

Here’s my thief – kinda went with a dark brotherhood type thing (anyone who’s played Skyrim/Elder Scrolls will know what I mean)

Coat is Shiro’s, Headpiece is Order of Whispers, Gloves are the hellfire vambraces, shoulders are aetherized from that pirate jump puzzle. Pants/boots are heritage skins from the Hall of Monuments.

EDIT: Forgot to add that the dye color is “Abyss”

Runes for thief

in Thief

My thief has about 19,700 health w/ mostly valkyrie, eagle sigils, etc.

My critical hit chance is hovering around 47-50% – but I want to try and improve that.

I’m thinking with an ascended amulet or better backpiece I can push things a little higher.

When it comes to playing a thief, I used to like going all-out damage and critical hits – but in so many instances it’s just not any fun to be dying all the time. Degen and one-shots will just drop you on your kitten so fast unless you’ve got some health to work with. For me, I’ll trade some dmg/crit for health so I can stay alive a little longer.

my general theory is – if I’m dead, I’m not dealing any damage anyway. So what’s the point of all this damage if I’m not alive long enough to dish it out?

GW2 is, and probably always will be, really CPU heavy. Dunno if they can change this at this point. I think it’s hardcoded into the engine.

Fix my thief traits!

I’m rolling a thief and my health seems really low… I’m averaging about 15-16k depending on accessories.

I’m playing a dual-dagger thief, with alternates as dual pistols for ranged. All my armor and accessories are equipped with “Superior Rage” runes.

What is good health for a thief? Everyone I’ve talked to seems to have more health than me, and I’m convinced it’s either my traits or my accessories… Any advice would be awesome!

I could really use advice on what rings/ammies you guys/gals are using too – I’ve got my eyes on some laurel-store ones.

We need culling back

I want to see the developers log into this game RIGHT NOW and show one of these events with hundreds of people on screen, on high settings, running at 60FPS.

They can’t do it, because this game was never optimized. It doesn’t utilize the GPU effectively and has the same godawful framerate dips that it had in the beta. Ever notice how Anet never posts actual gameplay footage from their events? It’s because it’s a freaking slideshow and they know it. Don’t get me started on the Crown Pavilion either… I talked to people with water-cooled 8-core SLI rigs that were getting as low as 17 FPS (and lower) in some areas. Give me a freaking break…

Playing games at 25 FPS is not why we all built/bought gaming rigs. It’s flat out unacceptable… I don’t get this kind of poor performance on ANY other game I own. It’s sloppy programming plain and simple.

Anet wanted Kiel to win - so she did.

I don’t believe there was any sort of conspiracy, but I am also not surprised at all that Kiel won. If anything, I’m surprised that the votes were as close as they were. Kiel was definitely presented as both the “stronger” candidate and, really, the known candidate. Had Evon been presented as a true alternative, as well as one who didn’t just pop up out of nowhere acting ready to tie a damsel to the train tracks, I think the election itself would have been a better one.

and we have a winner.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees this.

Kiel was around for the dragon festival too, so there was no real choice. They want to push her storyline and the “election” was just a vehicle to try and get people to buy support tokens, hence creating more demand for gold, hence creating more demand for gems, hence PROFIT.

connect the dots, people.

Leaders demoting/kicking leaders.

in Suggestions

Posted by: darkdomino.9578

darkdomino.9578

Why has ArenaNet still not fixed this, so many months after release?

Larger guilds need multiple leaders, it prevents the guild from becoming leaderless in the case of the founder having a life crisis, or just deciding he/she doesn’t like the game anymore. A guild with an inactive leader is a bad situation.

Guilds need a way to have multiple leaders without total chaos. I don’t give a kitten what your guild philosophy is. I don’t give a kitten that you don’t think this is the case. This is what larger guilds need – it’s an insurance policy against one guy all-of-a-sudden leaving or being unable to run the guild.

Can you imagine a corporation being run with this model? Where a member of the leadership could demote and kick his colleagues at will? It’s ridiculous. No company operates that way, because it’s pure chaos.
