I cannot run guild wars 2 now. I was playing last night and everything was fine. Got home from work and gw2 won’t work. I click on the link to start the game, it shows it downloading then the kbs drop to 0 really quick. If I let it sit it eventually comes up with a Connection error. Ideas? I changed nothing as far as settings are concerned. Turned firewall off and on again. Tried running as admin.

(If this is a concern, ask for ANet to modify the event, rather than pretend that it NEEDS 150 perfectly coordinated people. The map doesn’t belong to anyone, raid guild, or event group. I frankly doubt they playtested it with such an absurd requirement.)

If the event is made easier, it effectively negates the entire reason for the guild’s existence. TTS and other guilds were organized specifically for these very difficult encounters. Without them, these communities would be destroyed.

TTS killed wurm last night with 5 seconds to spare. If even 5 people out of the 150 map cap were not in teamspeak doing exactly what they were told, it would have failed. Nearly everyone there was already familiar with the fight – if there were even 5 randoms not from TTS who had never done a serious attempt before, it would have failed. The encounter was designed to be this difficult purposefully – go back and read the dev comments on it at release if you don’t believe me.

Beating the encounter as is feels like a huge accomplishment because it is so difficult. Taking that difficulty away would mean that there’s no need for TTS anymore. The stated goals of this update include bringing communities together. Making wurm easier would destroy the TTS community.

You do understand the the wurm is not TTS’s personal toy, right?

You severely misunderstand how the megaserver is working then.

And if a player absolutely refuses to cooperate in the smallest means necessary with a run, or has no interest in joining the run to see new content, dead weight is teh most accurate title to slap on them. They’re taking up zone spaces that would otherwise be better used by someone who wanted to participate in the event.

Now, if they’re going to insist on having large guilds deal with bloodtide coast having 20-30 players worth of dead weight wandering the map, they need to increase the capacity of that zone by 50-100 players or drastically tone back how difficult those fights are.
Until the 15th comes around, large guilds are going to be assuming the worst out of necessity. Once it does, they’re going to have a chance to actually test this new system. And believe me, it’s going to be fun watching anet scramble fixes for server stability if guilds like TTS decide to camp maps like weeniedale and poke at the system until it snaps.

That’s neat.. so why would you think the “leet” folks with TTS would try to circumvent and break the new system instead of trying to adapt and work within it? just the type of people they are or what?

So now that we've seen all the blog posts...

I am looking forward to of the new changes, and am optimistic.

1) PVP changes look awesome. I plan to start delving into sPVP now that there are meaningful rewards.

2) The wardrobe and dye changes are awesome! I cannot wait to actually start buying some dyes and playing dress up with my dudes.

3) Scheduled world events will be helpful, for me anyways. At least I will know when they are going on without using that dragon timer that always seems to be off.

A schedule… for a game.

Nice… if I wanted a schedule I’d stay at work all night.

Time was when I could get into three Triple Wurm runs a night, now I’ll be lucky to get one in a day.

This move will kill your game. Time for a rethink boys, smarten up.

Oh, god forbid.. you can only do Triple Wurm once a day. I have gotten the chance to do it zero times since it has come out on my server. So what’s the answer? Guest to another server? Not according to the elitist players. Don’t do it then? That’s what I have been doing. Maybe its time everyone shares.

The servers has they are now don’t work. Period.

I’m seriously reading all these complaints and thinking to myself “please ANet don’t backpedal on this issue and ruin this for me.” I was promised a schedule, and I’m expecting you to live up to that promise.

Love your posts. Best trolling ever.

Yes, because everything you don’t agree with must be an attempting at trolling. I actually share similiar feelings with OtakuDFifty. Apparently, you all are playing a different game then me because I don’t see where the majority of you are coming from.

Scheduled events will destroy immersion and the living world? All the major events are ALREADY on a timer. The timers may be a little more dynamic and vary from world to world, but they still are all scheduled. I agree that the event schedule should vary from day to day to give everyone a chance to try all the events, but beyond that aI like the idea of a schedule. I am tired of running around trying to find an event thats up and also has enough players to complete it.

WP costs will bankrupt us? Seriously?

The temple events won’t be dead. There actually will be players doing them! Maybe it’s been sweet for some of you guys on highly populated servers, but I run through Orr and see maybe half a dozen people. On a good day.

Like it or not, things have to change. If not server mergers, mega servers. Guesting is NOT good enough to address server population.

I think this system overall is a great change. Coming from a nearly dead server, it will be nice to actually be able to do events again. Guesting was designed to allow friends on different servers to play together, and was only being used as a band aid to server population issues.

People who are advocating for private servers and who feel that using the overflow and dead worlds as private playgrounds for their guilds need to remember something. These were designed as open world events. If they are too hard to run as such, then they may need to be rebalanced.. but that doesn’t mean the correct path is to just exclude people you feel aren’t “elite” enough. You do understand the casual playerbase actually paid for the majority of the game right? The elitists are a small, although vocal, portion of the gaming community. Without the casual “noobs” things like Tequatl wouldn’t even exist.

This is a good move. I understand certain world communities may be a little less close, but this is an opportunity to make new friends. Guild Wars 2 has a whole should be a community. Everyone should work together to have fun, and people need to stop trying to splinter everyone apart. Without ALL of us, this game would not exist.

MMOs change. Its the nature of the genre. I’m telling you, server population loss is the number 1 killer of MMos and the fact ANET is trying something to address the issue is great. I believe some things may need to be tweaked, such as the rigid event schedule, but I have faith ANET will address things like that moving forward.

I personally like the proposed change. I was tired of logging in to do something as easy as Jormag or the Shatterer and finding only one or two other people on the map.

Reading through the posts, in my opinion, the majority of people who dislike the idea, are those that would splinter the player base. Those people who feel that “noobs” and sub optimal builds should be blocked from their personal Tequatl overflow. How RP players should have their own section. People who want to play with only “their” community. Sure, this community may not be marked as friends or guild members.. but they are still better then the noobs from those other home servers.

In my opinion, its a Guild Wars 2 community and we ALL are part of it. Noobs, hard core players, RPers, no matter what home server you are from. I’m tired of elitists.

Its really getting obnoxious trying to do all these world events when no one is around to help. The concept of an MMO is great, and if things like Dragonite are going to require cooperation to gather, then I’m fine with that. Just give me someone to cooperate with. I’m bouncing around from server to server trying to find somewhere where people actually do these world events and its becoming frustrating. If ANET doesn’t want to do server mergers that’s great.. then either make group content not mandatory for personal advancement or address the impossible to do world events in some other fashion. Why have things like Tequatl if ENTIRE servers can’t do it? Sure, guesting exists but that’s just a band aid. The answer.. if you don’t like you server, move. That’s fine.. then why do these servers even exist?

I would make Scarlet into a heroic, yet mad figure. When she traveled into the great beyond and expanded her insight, she became aware of a single fact. That as things are progressing now, that the dragons would win by using the civlizations of Tyria against themselves. Scarlet realizes the only way to save Tyria is to destroy all civlization, basically starving the dragons of any resources and allowing them to go back to sleep. Then life can start anew. In Scarlet’s glimpses of the future, she say only defeat by the dragons and total destruction of Tyria. This is the only way she can see to win.

Help w/ Picking Ascended Gear

downwithdragons.8291

I am running a AH build, and need some advice on where to go with my ascended gear choices.

Right now my armor is all soldier gear, except for my helm which is knight. My greatsword and sword/shield is all knights. My trinkets, rings, amulet, are split between knights and valkyries.

I don’t want to waste lauerls by buying gear in error. I was originally going to convert all my trinkets to knights, but I feel like the loss of vitality would really cut into my survivability.

I am not a grade A player.. so I like having the hit points to soak up my errors. I also like running head long into zergs during WvW and not dying. With my current stats I can pretty much survive a head long rush into a zerg long enough to scatter them and retreat back behind my zerg.

Anyways, my question.. do you guys think an even split between valk and knight ascended gear is a solid choice or am I gimping myself somehow?

Thanks!

Hi.

Don’t take this post the wrong way, please. I understand fully that dungeons are designed for 5 man groups, and I am not complaining that there are issues with running 4 man. I just had a few clarifying questions. Thanks!

1) Path 1. Is this impossible with 4 man groups? Specifically, the part where you run into the locked door and need to stand on the altars to open the door. After trying to dash into the door several times, we just ended up getting a 5th person. Just curious if there is a way to manage this four man.

2) Path 2. The part with the assassins. We had huge issues with trying to do this four man. I think it is possible, as we got up to like 95%, but we just weren’t able to manage it. Since it was very late, we ended up calling the dungeon off and plan to try again later. Any tips for this part?

Thanks a bunch for the info!

I even went and completed another requirement, just to see if another completion would trigger the chest again.

Dungeon Scaling Used for Evil

downwithdragons.8291

The issue is scaling, I agree. Full exotic 80s are too powerful when scaled down. I don’t even want to imagine how full ascended gear will perform when scaled down.

Just reflecting on how this scaling system seemed like such a good idea during the design process, but then seeing how so many PROPER leveled characters are being shut out of dungeons DESIGNED for their levels is sad. I hope scaling is looked at again for rebalancing.

I remember when gw2 was going through development and the whole dungeon scaling was discussed. I thought it was a GREAT concept, helping to prevent dungeons from going obsolete and allowing for faster party formations for low and high level characters.

Its really backfired, leading to all dungeons becoming level 80-only playgrounds.

I think this is a perfect example of a good mechanic implimented by a creative development team that ended up being twisted and broken by the player base.

WvW Pairing Help

Could someone who is versed in WvW explain to me how the tier system and ranking works for WvW matches? I just recently got into doing WvW and I noticed we always get matched against the same servers, over and over again.

I play on DH, and we are fighting against GoM and HoD. We have won the last few matches, and once again we are facing the same severs. What does it take to move to the next ranking? Is there a list of how the servers rank?

Thanks!

[quote=1444383;Vol.5241So you play 2/3 hours a day, and you expect to have the same wealth as a guy who plays 6-12 hours a day? What kind of rational is that?

[/quote]

I really don’t understand why people get so snappy on the forums.

Firstly, I play 2 hours a day during my work week. On my off days, if I am able, I play a lot longer.

Secondly, I never said I expect to have as much money as someone who playes 3-4 times longer then myself. HOWEVER, even if I did play that long, I would be looking at a life time total of about 600 gold. I guarantee you there are people out there with over 10k+ gold.

The point I was trying to get to, was there is a HUGE discrepancy when you compare the wealth of a player who just plays the game as opposed to people who work the system to make money and the reasons for that, IMO only, is:

1) Early game bugs and exploits allowed a handful of players to secure a huge amount of wealth early on.

2) Market manipulation compounds the issue, allowing players who have a lot of money to make a lot more.

3) The DR system, which was designed to combat bugs, has a tendnacy to kick in at odd times causing no loot during normal play.

Gold from playing, not grinding or farming

downwithdragons.8291

I don’t want to get too off topic, but lets be really. I have played since pre launch. I am not a “hard core” player but I play an hour or two pretty much every day and have always completed all of my monthlies and dailies.

I pretty much do open world, a few fractals and dungeons, and some WvW.

Two level 80s.. both with two 400 crafting and in exotics. So I have wasted SOME money, but most of it I have saved. I have total right now, about 60 gold. Figure in the money I’ve wasted, I have probably generated like 120-150 since launch.

Now compare that to people who are listing legendaries/precursors. They spend my life total in gold, just in LISTING fees. There is a huge problem with wealth in the game. I don’t think its a problem with farming, like the original OP states, unless farming is THAT profitable.

I feel the issue is a combination of market manipulators combined with early game bugs, and DR issues that hammer legitimate players (both casuals and hard core people).

Stealth Stomp and No Damage When Stealthed

in Thief

Posted by: downwithdragons.8291

downwithdragons.8291

Rogues, scoundrels, WvW griefiers.. thieves. Sorry if I misused the class name in my initial post. It was late and I was irritated.

I understand stealth is not THE thief class mechanic, and other classes have limited access to it.. but we all know, thieves utilize it the most.

Culling (Yes, it is still there) plus stealth in WvW is very frustrating.

Stealth stomping (thief or no thief) is unbalanced, as the downed player and his allies have no way to know its coming, especially in a zerg-like situation. Throw in culling, which is extending stealths beyond their correct durations, and it makes the situation worse.

I understand stealth isn’t supposed to make you invulnerable. But when you combine high mobility and stealth with the culling issues, it sure makes it seem that way.

I would pay 400k. I really hope they do put a karma vendor up some day. Laurels are a cool concept, but especially with alts, it takes too long to get ascended gear that way. With a karma vendor, you’d have yet another resource to use for the ascended gear chase.

Let's Pretend.. Ascended for Karma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Now that we have the prices for ascended rings/amulets for laurels, I thought it would be fun to try and guess what ascended gear would cost if they created a karma vendor that sold it. Knowing that ANET values an ascneded amulet at a little less then a month worth of accomplishments, it gives us a little insight on what time frame they feel these items should be gotten in.

I predict that if a karma vendor shows up selling ascended amulets and rings, they will go for about 350k karma.

I don’t feel lied too. Game vision and design is dynamic. Things change. Its outrage based on past statements that make game designers so closed lip about their current projects. Who wants to release information if they risk being accused of lying if things don’t work out as originally intended?

I think there is a huge difference between out right deceit and the fact that things just ended up evolving in a different direction.

I like the way the new Dailies work better then the old. I like the variety, and I like that you need to put a little bit more thought into achievement. For those of you running into requirements that are a bit too time consuming or difficult, when the remainder of the system is added and you are able to pick and choose froma list, that will be resolved. I agree it would have been nice to get the whole system at once, but I am glad we got the laurels as soon as possible so I can start saving up.

My guild is all family.. we have a total of four members right now and all Milwaukee local. We run four man dungeons sometimes, but we have a casual/fun outlook and not really into the hardcore mentality that has a tendancy to spoil the game’s enjoyment. We are on Darkhaven right now and have been since pre-launch. Three of us have 80s, one just restarted recently so he is in his mid 60s. We all enjoy helping each other out, enjoying the game for what it is and not picking apart every little thing that is wrong with it, and wouldn’t mind inviting others into the guild if they have similiar mind sets. Mainly this is for Lord Rager since he is on our server, but also to anyone else that might be interested.

I understand where you are coming from wiazabi, I just don’t agree that its a bad thing to have a weapon that is almost exclusively aoe marks.

I don’t think the reason our staff is the way it is because of rushed production. I think it is by design. I prefer to have weapons “feel” different and the necromancer staff is very different from any other weapon out there. I like the play style that the staff offers and use it as my primary weapon. I’m not saying it is a powerful weapon or not, just that having access to all those AOE marks and grounded targeted wells makes for an enteraining and unique play style. All in my opinion, of course.

I actually think the staff is unique BECAUSE all of its abilities are AOE ground target marks. I really enjoy that aspect of the staff and it is the reason that I went with a staff necromancer as my alt. No other weapon in any class offers this type of game play.

I do agree that the animation could differ between the marks more, to make the abilities more visually appealing. Mechanic-wise, however, I don’t feel that the design is “lazy”, just different.

Stealth is Broken

I just watched a group of like 12 people try to catch a thief in WvW. The Thief was able to stealth every other second, pop in and do a few attacks, then stealth again. The thief was stealth Finish Moving people. I don’t know if this is due to the rendering issues or some sort of bug with stealth, but really there is no counter.

Don’t get me wrong, I think its fine that skill trumps stats/gear in the game. But there is NOTHING anyone could do to catch the thief. He would literally drop in, drop attacks for a second, then stealth.. Over and over and over.

Hey guys,

I appreciate all the feedback so far..

Just to reiterate my initial post, I’m not really trying to create a hardcore, top tier necromancer build. I just would like some advice on how to make the aspects of a necromancer that I really enjoy. I love plague. I’m not really concerned if it is the best pick, statistically. I love going into plague form and chasing around large groups of mobs in PvE. I think its really awsome, thematically.

I’m just looking for traits/stats that compliment that play style, be it viable or underwhelming.

I also enjoy death shroud. I think it looks super cool. Way better then lich form.

I really like staff for its scythe effect and the fact that it is so much more different then other weapons I’ve previously used.

Just trying to come up with the best synergy to try and tie in all these aspects into something somewhat coherent.

Thanks again!
