CPU Overheating after last patch

I was not entirely sure where to put this, so I’m hoping tech support is the right place. I play GW2 pretty regularly and never have any problems, but after the patch today, I was in the game for (maybe) an hour, in PVE and then WvW, then I suddenly blue screened. When I tried to reboot, BIOS said my CPU was at 115 degrees celsius, so I shut down and waited a short bit, then I opened speccy before opening GW2 up and popping back into WvW again. I turned all my settings down to minimal, just in case. It was only a couple minutes before I was at 95 degrees and I closed the game.

At this point I asked a friend about it, and he had me reboot again. I logged back in and stayed in Divinity’s Reach in a very unpopulated overflow, pretty much standing still, and I got the same issue again. So Right-o.

I had been on my computer all day with blender, photoshop and secondlife open without having any problems, but I went ahead and opened up the secondlife client again and stayed in for a little while and monitored the heat at max settings, no issues. I then tried Fallout 3 and (after the huge patch finished) The Secret World, both of which ran without any issue.

So my question is pretty much… is there something I can do about this / is the problem on my end? I don’t understand why it is only happening with GW2 and not with anything else, which is why I’m asking here!

I got 193 but admittedly i didn’t really collect all that much dye.

It took me a second to figure out, but I like the new way the traits are done. I do hope that eventually there will be a way to save builds (even just trait builds) that you can switch between quickly and easily ala Secret World, because I think that would make the ability to switch trait lines on the go far more convenient.

i keep saying to my friends that our heroes act like a bunch of bullies all the time.

I know, right? We run through, slaughtering people nonstop, never accepting surrender. What really gets me is when bandits or pirates say “Now I’ll never…” when they die. How many of those people were just trying to make ends meet in a troubled time! Not to mention the continuous and needless culling of non-violent animals in the wild. Or hopping into an ogre farm and killing all of them for some grapes. Joking about stabbing someone in the chest (which seems like a weird way to kill plant people) is hardly the worst thing we’ve done.

So….following your post….we, might as well, now go and kill all people in refuge camp, because we are, obviously, mad psychos, even worse, than Scarlet.

There is a line between story and gameplay. Its obvious, that we have to kill/farm to get anything in this game. But it doesnt mean, that we should abandon our moral standards.

Do they give good loot? Because then maybe we should.

When I finished playing last night, I was exhausted. And I still hadnt gotten enough heirlooms, and I said “Oh well, ill trade these in tomorrow”. I havent had any time to play GW2 for months, it just hadnt occurred to me that the vendor would be gone the next day. Which sucks, but oh well. I think I am more disappointed in the community’s “sucks to be you” attitude towards those of us who missed the window than I am in having missed the window.

Why event vendors were removed

Why is it always someone’s fault when this NON recurring event has been running nearly a month and folk don’t think to ASK in Map Chat or look or ask on forums if certain things that are being collected are going to continue???

And if you were in collecting and collecting enough long enough you could have ASKED in Map Chat, trust me, someone on the map knew…. so no excuses especially since you had nearly a month of collecting to think on how to spend it.

The answer to your question is precedence. There was a vendor you could trade in candy corn and zaitaffy forever. You could still trade in your fortune scraps to the BL weapons dude. For about a month after Christmas, you could still turn in wintersday collectibles. There was no reason to ask because there was a precedence that for event items, you’d still be able to turn them in after the fact.

I wish that there would have been an announcement on the log on screen at least about what was going to happen with heirlooms and belongings, because I just figured i’d be able to trade them in the same way you could zaitaffy or halloween stuff after those events. So, the city’s not under attack anymore so… nobody wants their stuff back? How does that make sense?

Regarding ascended weapons

in Guardian

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

Off-hands are almost unnecessary as the stat difference is very small and there is no weapon damage contribution.

Personally I’m not crafting any. I enjoy the randomness of finding weapon drops and they aren’t especially rare (not like precursors).

Do they drop from WvW? Because that is about all I do. I’ve tried to do fractals but I just couldn’t stomach it They honestly look nice but I just don’t have the time to dedicate to PvE dungeon runs. I don’t mean that in any negative way I just mean I honestly don’t want to spend a couple hours in them.

I’m guessing from the tower captures and those chests maybe?

Yes. Any of the main…. uh dudes (I dont WvW very often) in one of the… building things… can drop one. Pretty much anyone who drops a box can. I got one in WvW. Carrion stats, which meant I didn’t use it for my guardian, but they definitely drop.

Engineer
We did some reworks on the Elixir toolbelt (f-bar) skills. These just didn’t have enough cool play to them, and we wanted to improve them. Like:

  • Elixir S toolbelt is now guaranteed stealth.
  • Elixir B toolbelt now guarantees Stability along with the random current effect. Base recharge increased to 30 seconds.

We also did QoL (quality of life) improvements to skills that saw little play.

And finally, Engineer turrets will attack the Engineer’s target. They still take time to rotate to face the target, and they still have their respective cooldowns when firing. But this means the Engineer can focus damage on a single target by using their turrets.

If this happens, it will be the happiest day of my GW2 Life.

400-500 Only rich apply?

in Crafting

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

I don’t really see it as ‘farming’. The materials are coming from things most people are doing in guild wars anyway. Such as PLAYING THE GAME. I don’t understand this concept of ‘oh you have to farm to get these things’. ‘How come only the rich get these things’. Well, in my opinion, anyone who is level 80 and spending time out in the world should be getting this stuff.

What are people doing that they’re not managing to hit a champion every once in awhile, do a big event or jumping puzzle or a dungeon with a chest in the end, or even kill a mob that drop the regular crafting bags? I got lots of orichalcum ore and ancient wood logs when I did my salvaging to get higher MF, simply because I used fine salvaging kits rather than the crude ones.

Asking that people either 1. Play the game or 2. shell out the gold on the trading post isn’t unreasonable.
Don’t have the gold? PLAY THE GAME.

As for the past, seeing as how our Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 accounts are linked, I don’t see why ArenaNet couldn’t import our old characters’ name into the ‘unnamed hero from the past’.

Even without this, it could be the same as KOTOR 2. “Darth Revan did such and such and then he did this.” (player choice) 1. Oh yeah, and then what? 2. I thought Revan was a woman.

Except, you know, with “I thought she was a Norn, I thought she was an Engineer” etc.

I think there is a personal connection with Faren at least. With the noble human story line, he really feels like… that -one- friend who has always gotten by on having looks and/or money and has no common sense or real world skills whatsoever—but for some reason, you always have fun with him.

Honestly, I think that someone should have at least been -injured-. I partially feel as though there is an inference that Scarlet might have forcefully taken advantage of Faren (‘Scarlet likes to play with her toys, and she plays rough.’) but everything about the situation is such nonsense, its not like he’s going to have PTS or anything. It’d be cool if a character, I don’t know, lost an eye or a hand or something, and from now on had a hook hand or an eye patch or a SCAR, even in new personal story threads. Anything to show that it doesn’t wrap up neatly like a sitcom every two weeks.

New Crafting to 500, weapons only?

in Crafting

fnordette.4139

I am a little disappointed that we aren’t getting Jeweler up to level 500 right now. I understand that the process for creating new armor skins is time consuming, what with rigging and making a version for all the different character models, but with jewelry it would take minimum effort to implement—especially in that there are already a bunch of ‘ascended’ quality trinkets available in the game. I can see the Chef taking a while to figure out all the little intricacies, as it’s not like you want to eat dust and ectoplasm, but as Chef and Jeweler are the two crafting skills I use the most, I really hope Jeweler is updated next.

Horace /Duke Barradin are nuts though, I will definitely grant you that. Especially if you don’t have a level 80 there.

Ecto again

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

I shouldn’t have to salvage 2500 rares to get a good rate of return, the sample size you did was an exception, no one in the game will hold on to 2500 rares before salvaging, it just doesn’t work that way, the ecto salvage has not been right since it was bugged last time,

The loot from champs wasn’t made to good, it was made just right to cover the NO LOOT from well any zone in the dam game over the last 8-10 months, the problem is and I don’t believe for a second they didn’t forecast this, the new champ bags just show how BAD the loot is and always has been at the temple/world events……

This game is about grind plain and simple, you have to grind for everything_, if anet put an event in 1 zone that spawned unlimited waves of enemies, NO one would champ farm, they would flock to said zone/area to farm it,_ they need to fix the world events so that loot it rewarded for time invested, and as it stands the best example of this is the Jormag event, long, boring, no loot.

I really don’t think this is true. Look at Plix and the anchorage to arah chain, shelter’s gate and penitent camp—which used to all be the farming events people went for. Now they sit empty because everyone is going for the quick champ kills.

Queen Jennah isn't real

in Lore

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

I am personally on the Jennise bandwagon. Why did Jennah let Anise make the illusion? Because clearly, they’re having some sort of romantic thing. Why else would Jennah be queen for so long without a husband, when I am preeeetty sure that nobody would raise a fuss if she pulled a Victoria and just married Logan and made him prince consort? Why else would Anise and Logan bicker constantly, and he be soooo jealous that she confided in Anise and not him, when Anise is her bodyguard? Anise is way too smug around Logan, as though she has a secret. But maybe her secret is that she is secretly queen Jennah and Anise is her ‘going around town’ form. If that’s the case, Jennah has a mean sadistic streak.

Are lions real creatures in Tyria?

in Lore

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

For some reason, this has been in the back of my thoughts for a long time, and I haven’t seen any answers for it on the wiki (and apologies if there is a thread about this already, I went a few pages back and never found one).

But here’s the thing. I have not once ran into a lion in Tyria, not as an enemy, not as an acquirable ranger pet. The mystery cat tonic does turn you into a lion—but clearly a female lion, with no mane. However, it’s very clear that lions are very important symbols to the lore. Lion’s Arch, Black Lion Company, Lionguard, etc. There used to be a very cool fountain in Lion’s Arch depicting a lion, and the Black Lion’s flag is a golden lion on a black field.

So are Lions real? In our world, Gryphons and dragons are mythological creatures, but in Tyria they’re real. Could lions be the equivalent of unicorns for the tyrian people?

Champ Zergs Killing Dynamic Events

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

I’ve always told people that out of every game I have ever played, GW2 on the Tarnished Coast server was the -nicest- most cooperative MMO community I had ever been a part of. And I completely enjoyed the Cursed shore farming when it was plinx and going up the steps of arah and killing huge swarms at shelter’s gate and Penitent camp and getting my bazillion crafting bags. And other than the tension that surrounds temple of Grenth, everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a good time. Not to mention I had time to wander about and do my gathering.

The frantic pace of champ farming and the whole ’way point here, now kill this guy, now waypoint here, kill this one guy, now waypoint here" thing is just tiring. AND people are cranky. Not as cranky as the people in Frostgorge though, but I miss the dynamic events.

Farmers vs Completers

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: fnordette.4139

fnordette.4139

I’ve ran this event 2 -5 times nearly every day since it came out, and I usually end up with about 20 -30 bags per event, sometimes fewer, sometimes more. The most I’ve gotten is about 50, mostly from aetherblades, with the event still completing. I’m usually in overflow, which I am sure contributes to things being a little more difficult.

I would say that in overflow, the success rate for me has been about 66%, whereas in my home server, the success rate has been about 75%. I’ve never been in Gendarran, Lornar’s Pass, Fireheart Rise, or Harathi Hinterlands where it has failed.

It seems to fail for me most often in Blazeridge, Frostgorge Sound and Bloodtide Coast and I /want/ to say dredgehaunt, but I think I’ve only done that one twice (and failed both times). Both of these always have a bunch of bugged events with critters spawning in mountains etc. with the waypoints being really far from where the spawns are. Which makes it a touch more difficult.

Frostgorge and Blazeridge have the additional problem of spawns being very close to other champions. Which leads to everyone pausing a moment and going “hell, while there’s a bazillion of us here, lets knock out this guy too.” Let’s face it, whether or not you’re aiming for completion, if you’ve got a chance to knock out a champion, you’re going to do it. Don’t even pretend you’re going to take the high ground and walk away from the bag because spoilers: you aren’t.

I honestly don’t think the farmers are that big of a problem. In fact, I would say that the people who are somehow managing to have whole conversations about how horrible the farmers are in map chat while they should be running or fighting are more of a problem. The farmers are actively killing. And I have never been to an aetherblade spawn where after the second champion spawn, the team didn’t go ahead and knock out the captain, clear up and move on—usually to an adjacent clockwork.

It seems like, what works best is usually three to five commanders with large groups following them on different areas of the map, taking out events in chains—more often than not, what is right next to the one they were next to. It also works best when people aren’t telling people not to fight aetherblades when they’re only half dead. You don’t know how many times I’ve been lost on a map with only one or two commanders and have said ‘well lemme waypoint to some aetherblades to catch up to a group’ only to find myself alone. Yeah, people go to these events to farm, but I think the problem has been vastly exaggerated.
