ME LIKEY:
1. The intro instance and story were superb, I loved it. Can’t wait to see the end.
2. I like the idea of the new bosses in the maze, although they are pretty boring.

ME NO LIKEY:
1. The weapon skins are craaaaazy expensive and the bags take a crap load of candy corn.
2. Too much downtime in the maze, there are long periods of time where no doors spawn.
3. Besides the story there isn’t anything new yet. The Lab, Clocktower, PVP game, etc. are from last year and aren’t as exciting as last year.

ME HOPE:
1. More/new content (like the dungeon) arrives that are fun/repeatable and make it easier to amass candy corn and other halloween mats.

Unless you are riding a champ train, hitting all the dungeon paths daily or have the capital to make big bucks in the market, gold isn’t all that easy to come by. Not in the quantities to level your crafting skill quickly, because the quickest way isn’t all that profitable via crafting alone. So when some crafting guide says it’ll only cost you X gold to level from 1 to 500, that X gold can be daunting to some. But if you took up your gathering tools early and go nuts on every node you see, then the out of pocket cost of leveling your crafting skill is “free”. Sure you aren’t making as much selling your finished items than if you simply sold off your mats but if you are judging cost buy coin spent, then it’s free.

It may feel free, but the OP is pointing out that in the economic sense (in context of the in-game economy) it is not free because of the opportunity cost. Of course it is perfectly acceptable to ignore that and only pay attention to coin spent.

If I chose to associate a money value with the materials. The only value they have to me is to craft with them. The cost I pay is the little time it takes to get them.

I’m not giving up anything except for my time.

Materials are just a means to end. For you that may be to make money. For me it’s to use as a crafting material, therefor they have no gold value to me. I don’t care what the market says they are worth.

So no there isn’t an opportunity cost for me.

“But but but but it has value..”

That’s great. I don’t care. It didn’t cost me any of my own gold to make so it was free outside of time and effort.

QED: you don’t understand what opportunity costs means.

I understand it just fine. I don’t see how it applies to me and my materials because I was never looking to make any money from them. Therefor the only value they had to me was what I could use to make from them.

I’m pretty sure that opportunity cost implies there is a choice to be made between one thing or the other. To me there is no choice because I was never looking at them or considered them as means to make money, primarily.

The person who said it’s a matter of perspective is correct.

Now you might have an argument saying my opportunity cost was do I make a sword or do I make an axe? Or mace? So many choices.

OC doesn’t refer to the value YOU put on the materials, it refers to the loss of potential gain via the market’s value of the materials. So no, you do not understand it just fine.

It’s fine to say opportunity cost is irrelevant to you, but at least you acknowledge that it exists. The other poster is saying it doesn’t exist, arguing against it’s very definition.

I don’t understand all of the fuss in this thread. The OP is just pointing out the fact that there is an opportunity cost involved in crafting with mats you gathered yourself. So people who say stuff like “OMG it only cost me 20g to level weaponsmithing to 500 ’cause I had most of the mats in the bank already” are wrong. The correct statement is that it cost them 20g plus what they could have made selling all their mats instead of crafting with them.

^this^

It appears that a lot of people posting here don’t have a clue what “opportunity cost” means. Any money forgone by not selling the mats is money that could have been used for any other aspect of the game, and unless somebody ONLY played GW2 to make that one weapon that one time, the concept totally applies here. The money you didn’t get from the TP is just as real as the money you spent there.

If you only play for profit then sure. Not everyone plays to maximize profits. I’m not sure why that’s hard to understand.

What does this post have to do with either the OP or either of the quoted posts? I play for fun and not to maximize profit yet I understand there is an opportunity cost every time I choose to hoard / craft something vs. selling it.

I sincerely hope that you don’t do anything with Lupicus; he is the single best encounter in the entire game. I do hope that you fix his bugs however, especially the aoe in p2 hitting in areas where it shouldn’t.

If by best encounter you mean easy then yes he is the best. He looks cool to.

Can you make every dungeon at least able to be done with only 4 ? My group was very disappointed when we did coe and it requires 5 to get past the laser wall. You can leave the difficulty we just don’t like having to bring someone just so they can hit a button or stand in a certain spot when we are perfectly cable of doing everything else ourselves.

I’ve done this in a group with four before. On the other side of the lasers two consoles are right next to each other. If you stand in a very precise spot between them you can use both without moving. If that person starts the countdown they can use both before time is up. It might take a few tries but it can be done.

So what kind of gear will I be using...

in Mesmer

Posted by: fourpoundburrito.1698

fourpoundburrito.1698

Don’t put expensive runes on masterwork gear, save them for rare or exotic. There are plenty of guides out there but you have 4 choices for obtaining exotic gear: Orr Karma vendors (42k karma per piece), crafting (5 ectos plus t6 mats per piece), dungeon gear (180-330 tokens per piece), or just buying stuff from the TP. Find what pieces you want based on their stats and/or looks and start grinding!

Edit: Yes you can survive Orr with Beserker gear, Mesmer’s have stealth, blink, blur, etc. to completely avoid taking damage. It’s up to you though!

This ^. People complain about every kitten thing. Anything that makes impossible kitten a little easier they cry, anything that’s impossible they cry, you can never make them happy. This isn’t game breaking, it’s called planning ahead to make things less complicated, the same as when you take food, sharpening stones and skale venom.

First of all, I’m not crying, so please grow up and learn how to properly respond to an opposing point of view. Secondly, I doubt you’ll find any posts of mine where I’m saying things are too difficult.

Spy kits “don’t make things a little easier”, they make things trivial. Food buffs and potions are incomparable. Those are standardized and perfectly acceptable, and boost your effectiveness by a reasonable percentage. Spy kits let you avoid playing the game.

LOL? Which GW1 did you play? Cuz we couldn’t have played the same one. In GW1 there was a TON more skipping than what’s going on in this game. In GW1 people would sell runs of missions and elite areas.

You still killed a lot of stuff in DoA/FoW/Deep/Urgoz. The only place you did tons of skipping was UW. None of those were on the level of skipping you can do in GW2, where you can finish an Arah path by only killing 1 or 2 mobs.

I remember skipping tons of mobs in DoA in Gloom and Foundry. And in FoW anything that wasn’t skipped was either AoE bombed in seconds or soloed by special classes/builds. Trash is trash, there in’t usually anything interesting about it. And since the dungeons all require you to grind them repeatedly to get stuff skipping becomes more fun than clearing.

Arah path 4 final boss never spawned

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: fourpoundburrito.1698

fourpoundburrito.1698

Hey Anet and fellow dungeon heads,

Just wanted to report a bug with Arah path 4. My group and I slogged through all of the first seven bosses, including an insane 2-3 hours at Simin that was full of bickering, rage quitting, drama, back stab kicking, etc. When we got to the Bloodstone Shard however, the final boss didn’t spawn. We saw a cutscene when we first approached the shard, but when we led the NPC up to it nothing happened. The only thing I can think of that may have directly contributing to it bugging out was that we wiped when fighting the 4 mobs guarding the shard (mostly due to sheer exaustion) and has to run back once.

I was only running this path to get my dungeon master title and I definitely won’t be going back until I hear that this bug gets fixed because it is a pretty huge setback after spending something like 4 or 5 in the dungeon to not get credit. In fact I think someone in my group threatened suicide. I do have a screenshot on my laptop if anyone really needs a visual.

TL;DR : Even if after you spend 4 hours running Arah path 4 it still may bug out for you at the very end.

Congrats Arena.Net!

I don’t remember Anet being this bad with the GW1 patches but I’m sure things have changed there since then. Whatever the case may be I hope they can fix their processes/people/whatever and actually start to deliver quality in to their product.

A couple other dredge exploits for the list:

Just prior to Rabsovich on the door destruction path. Someone in the group had a stack of Ash Legion Spy Kits, which they used to cheese the door, after we downed a Reverberant and they grabbed the cannon. 10 seconds of uninterrupted stealth at the door.

Also for Rabsovich, the group decided to pull him out of the room to fight him away from his adds, completely debasing the whole fight.

I don’t think pull him away to fight him is an exploit. That’s a workaround. It’s no different than pulling a small group at a time to fight them in any situation. It’s just more tactical, safer, and much smarter than just charge into a group.

That’s ridiculous. It’s an easy fight regardless. Why would the designers intend for you to make it a joke? It’s not about pulling him away from a group of mobs to be tactical; it’s about completely removing an element of the fight until the boss is dead. Clearly not intended, therefore exploit.

LOL, whats so clear about it? Developers made a fight, players thought of ways to deal with it, and u are calling it an exploit? Tell you what, they expect you to have 20 resist on 20-29 jade maw fight too. If you don’t have it, you are exploiting your way up by letting those who have 20 resist cheese rez you up

And since you believe the folks at Arena Net are gods, can foresee all probable outcomes and do not make mistakes as mortals do, then obviously any “workarounds” are totally legitimate. People Like you really do worry me.

I’m sure they thought of pulling the boss outside the room. Pulling bosses is one of the oldest tactics in book as far as MMO games go. Other fractals have gates that shut during fights so they will add one here as well if they want to.
