Funny how human psychology works (or at least mine ^^). I’ve got no pb finding the motivation to log in the forums and complain but i’ve been willing to write this positive post for some days and just logged in to play instead.
I really really enjoyed the nightmare within. In fact, it is the first time i enjoy a LW-LS update.
What i liked about it :
- the overall toxic feel of the tower
- the difficulty in the “open world” tower was near perfect imo (kind of hard to solo but still possible, perfect for a 3-5 person guild group. It was too zerg friendly but the zerg i noticed tended to split up once it reached the nightmare chambers. I loved how every floor was clearly harder than the last.
- the nightmare chambers were really fun with a bit of a random element in it, maybe a little too easy imo
- the last instance was fun if also a little too easy
- achievements were easy to get, not as grindy as i was used to in other LS
- the achievement were you need to down the last boss without anyone dying is the kind of achievement we need i think
What i didnt like :
- the story (but it’s been said over and over again by a lot of players, please kill Scarlett and move on )
- the fact that after opening a few tri-chest i still didnt get any skin less random stuff please
So overall thanks ANET, for the 1st times in months (nearly in a year in fact) i’ve logged in looking forward to PVE instead of just WvW like i usually do.
Funny i thought the video was terrible, as is the story. Scarlet is one of the most annoying videogame bad guy i’ve ever seen. Bison in street fighter 2 had a better backstory.
Still i enjoyed the gameplay so overall i liked this update, but this video…
Hey OP please before making threads like that, please learn to play, or at least adapt and use a more defensive setup/armor if you can’t do it as a glass canon. For once the content is a little challenging and encourage players to group, which is a good thing. If you want to faceroll in full zerker please go to the champ train in queen’s dale.
I am enjoying this LW update way more than what came before (except for the terrible story but that’s off topic).
p/d thief. You only die if you get unexpectedly ganked by 5 people or you play bad.
This. You really don’t die with this build if you’re careful. I can kill dolyaks even if they are escorted by 3-5 players (except if they are very good and know exactly what they are doing, but even in this case i can run away most of the time).
Also : shadowstep ftw.
I stopped playing GW2 for various reasons, but one of the major factors was how the Living Story and new content in general has become innately tied to achievement chasing and rewards.
I’ve come to realise that rewards and achievements are a bad thing for games in general.
It’s lowest common denominator stuff and makes people forget why they started playing in the first place. It all becomes about how much gold or achievement points players receive for repeating activities instead of actually enjoying the content itself.I’ll use another game as an example.
I’m guessing a lot of ArenaNet developers have played The Last of Us.
I for one found it a breath of fresh air to have trophy and social intrusions completely removed from the game. This was a conscious decision by Naughty Dog. They didn’t want Joel and Ellie’s story ruined by continual pop ups. And it worked spectacularly well.
Free from trophy concerns or whether my friends were online or not, I was free to enjoy the game. When a big developer like Naughty Dog backs away from achievement culture in such a dramatic fashion, I think it’s worth paying attention.
One of the things that would bring me back to GW2 would be the removal of the achievement hamster wheel and untangling it from so many gameplay elements. At the moment it’s the driving mechanic behind all new content. It’s like ArenaNet believe people won’t play their game unless there’s a reward for it.
Well I stopped playing BECAUSE of all the “rewards”.
If you play Guild Wars 2 at the moment, you’re unconsciously deciding to join the race to get the shiniest stuff or the most achievement points. This causes stress with the 2 week release cycle, and it makes people anxious when they miss out on something because they didn’t have time to dedicate to playing.
People turn around and say that all this content is optional and that you don’t have to play it, and guess what?
They’re right.
You don’t.It’s just that if you don’t play content dedicated to rewarding you either with shinies or achievements, you don’t play Guild Wars 2.
Like me.
This entire game is optional.
I know you’ve probably built your development around integrating achievements and rewards in to new content ArenaNet, but seriously, take a step back and consider the potential for burnout.
I would like to say that i strongly agree with this post. I’ve been wanting to write this for quite some times :
If you got rid of achievements in the LS/LW, what would be left ? Some tedious, zergy, easy, unsatisfying content.
I would really enjoy if you could step away from the achievement hamster wheel and stop designing content AROUND achievements. I guess it’d be okay if you did create interesting content/satisfying gameplay experience, and eventually add SOME (not a lot) achievement for completing it (but none of the “collect X stuff”, kill Y mobs" sort of achievement.) At the moment it feels more like "let make this repetitive events pop around the map, and because it will be an extremely zergy/repetitive experience with no challenge at all, lets make plenty of achievements so people HAVE to do it over and over again.
This is the reason i usually stay away from GW2’s PVE and why i only WvW. Except that now you have “achievements” in WvW too It makes me feels really sad. So that’s something else : please keep the LS/LW out of WvW. Please
Also what is considered an achievement IRL ? Overcoming your fear of something, succeeding in a difficult task, performing better than usual in the face of adversity etc…
What are achievements in GW2 ? Zerg and repeat. Avoid difficulty. Don’t think. So GW2’s achievements are not achievements at all. (At least the ones tied to LS/LW and the ones like “kill 1000 spiders”. The right kind of achievements are the ones you get once (and ONLY once) you complete a JP for example.
So i guess a good step toward improving LS/LW would be to ask yourself everytime : “is it fun ?” (see what i did here :P) "would it be fun without “achievements ?” And please you don’t have to use achievements to properly rewards players.
I’m going to be brief :
my opinion if you don’t want to force transfer (which would upset many players) is to make sure you give the tools to a smaller but well organized group to beat a zerg.
- remove downed state
- impossibility to raise dead people if still in fight
- remove or increase AOE cap
- no more possibility to TP to a contested fort every few minutes
- reduce the number of siege machine a team can have active on the map (or at least the number of golem) : it would be harder for blobs to organize “8-10 golems” rushes but the smaller server could still organize smaller “2-3 golems” attack
- make it harder to capture a fort/tower. I would start with giving the structure’s lord a 20/30 minutes immunity buff (i wouldn’t change the timer for the camps though), make it a lot harder to shoot people up on walls and easier to shoot at people from walls.
I don’t think this would it would be possible for the small team to beat the bigger team but i think this way the small team still can have some fun instead of seeing its towers re-capped by the enemy within minutes.
On the other end, playing on Vizunah, i can say that or bigger strength is our coverage. We have very dedicated players/commanders who go on “night duty”. As a result, we are scoring very high when our enemies are asleep and we are ticking about the same level as they do during prime time.
I think this is extremely unfun. I love winning as every other man, but is it fun winning because some people play when everyone is asleep ? I’d say reduce the number of points given to teams during the server’s off hours (or maybe divide it between 3 “playtime zones”.)
Somebody else in this thread add the idea that instead of having a tick every 12 minutes we could have a tick every few hours. I find this idea worth exploring as well.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT : this poster stated it very well :
“What needs to be incorporated is scaling points based on population. Meaning that if you’re taking things while a map is completely queued for all sides it is worth a lot more than when a map has 20 people on one side and maybe 5 on the other two. It doesn’t discriminated against any timezone but it emphasizes the difficulty and effort required to do so when you’re actually fighting an opponent. There would obviously be a baseline value so contributions when matchups are lopsided are still worth something but not high enough to solely determine the winner of the match.”
Over reaction here. The perplexity runes are easy to counter if you know how to play. Just don’t get interrupted.
I think the new torment runes look way more OP but i haven’t tested yet.
Many people said it better than i would but i still want to add my voice.
1) story in living story is bad because
a) it’s shallow
b) characters are forgettable
c) it’s disconnected from the rest of the game
2) temporary content is a problem
a) it’s a problem for people who would like to come back
b) it’s a problem for “achievers” who can’t play the game for a few weeks (work, family, exams happen you know)
3) 2 weeks release is too fast and the achievements are grind based
a) it forces you to log and do the LS instead of playing the way YOU want
b) it pushes you toward the store because the achievements are too grindy and uninteresting and it’s not a classy way to make us spend our money
4) the ressources used in LS could be better used to do real content (dungeons, new maps, new dynamic events which should be well integrated in the existing maps etc…)
5) the LS doesn’t make the world feel living at all. It’s just random stuff who don’t make any sense happening around the world and it’s immersion breaking
6) LS, instead of encouraging players to spread and explore the world, making it feel alive in the process, encourage gathering/zerging which isn’t quality gaming imo.
7) please leave WvW out of the living story the grind for the WvW achievements is ridiculous. 225 sentinels and doliaks ? so i should just stop being useful for my server and chase sentinels and doliaks around the map ?
8) please give us quality content instead of achievement (carrot) based grind
Thanks for reading and thanks for this collaborative dev initiative. I have to admit i had lost hope in gw2 (that i already left twice) and i was looking around other games. I really wished i could call tyria home for a long time and now it’s all up to you to deliver.
I think one (of the many) flaws in GW2 is the terrible way the lore is delivered. You’re doing “hearts” not quests, most of the time i had no idea why i was killing ten rats or collecting carrots for a npc. As a result “questing” is extremely bland and repetitive.
One of the things i loved most was the DE system. Not all of them are great of course. The gathering events especially i avoid all the time. But the ones with fighting, defending, escorting and killing a boss are fun imo. This + the fact the the dynamic combat system is very well done = good times.
So my opinion is gw2 should focus on its strength instead of delivering a terrible “living word/story” every 2 weeks which is shallow, grindy, and worst of all temporary.
I had a few suggestions :
1) introduce every new zone you step in with a cinematic and some dramatic voice-over to tell you what’s going on in the area. Maybe your character could also have a journal in which he writes down his deeds and once you get done with all the hearts you got anther video showing you how life in the area has improved since you came ?
The idea behind this one is literally everyone i know that tried gw2 left after 2-3 weeks because they were bored to death with “questing” and “hearts”. So this is a suggestion to make the player feel like he’s making a difference in the world.
2) Introduce new DEs on a regular basis and make sure that every time you complete one you also advance on a nearby heart. It’s a very satisfying feeling when you level to get done with a heart while you were actually having fun with a DE.
They should be waaaay more rewarding that they are know (and rewards should scale with level) in term of karma/gold/XP. They should have a chance to drop things like a zone based skin or something. And of course there should be a system that you get the reward for a certain event only once a day so that it’s not farm-able.
3) Introduce DEs in racial cities to introduce a new life in them. It could be about finding clues around the city, arresting thieves, fighting back a skritt invasion from the sewers, insure the security of an important person as he traverls through town etc… I think Hoebrack (spelling) and Divinity Reach for exemple are very beautiful but empty and it makes me sad :’(
Anyways that’s my 2c.
SFR is paying the bill for its poor attitude toward PUs and its lack of sportmanship/insulting attitude on the forums. Raging and finding excuses won’t solve anything. I’d like SFR to go on pretending that we are double teaming them because as long as they think this way they won’t win.
If you lose try to find shortcomings in yourself SFR, don’t point fingers and scream because it makes you look pathetic.
1) Server population imbalance
2) Alt unfriendliness (Wxp bound to character)
3) Commander tools (or lack thereof)
To force you to log in so you don’t miss anything.
For me it made it feel like a chore so i left. I came back months later with the firm resolution to ignore any temporary content. Now i’m enjoying the game a lot more.
1) Ascended items
2) Rewards for dynamic events
3) Living story
Hey thanks both of you i guess these are both sides of the argument and i will have to spend the money to playtest it myself and see which one i prefer
Hi, i just wanted a quick advice from fellow condition thieves. I’m playing your classic PD thief, wearing at the moment full Power-Condition-Vitality gear (armor, weapons, trinket).
I’m saving to buy Errol’s armor (dire stats), which would cost me arround 30 gold. I’m never farming for anything so even these 30 golds are quite a bit of money for me (and i have alts to gear) so before i made this investment i wanted to know if other conditions thieves are using dire stats and found it worth it.
My main concern is that i’m already low on DPS with no burst so i’m concerned that gimping my power will hurt my dps too much.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance.
Hello, first of all your message made me lol so thanks
Your story is very much like mine except i started with a guardian not a warrior. Anyways.
I’m not a very skilled player myself and seriously thief is hard to play. Of the 3 characters i play the most (thief, warrior and guardian) it is from far the hardest to play well with. One mistake and you’re gone. Sure excellent players never make mistakes but we’re not all excellent.
So i’m asking you : Did you consider trying a condition build ?
It’s a lot easier to play. I would advice trying a pistol/dagger build. I like 5-0-30-15-20 but you could go 0-0-30-20-20 as well. It’s very defensive, you have to be patient and keep on applying bleeds to your opponent. Apply torment with pistol skill 3 and poisons when you steal if you go 5-0-30-15-20. I also use the perplexity runes for the extra condition damage and it applies confusion to your opponent every 10 seconds.
The guardians are nearly impossible to kill, you have to be careful with stunlock warriors (shadowstep is great here). Manage your dodges carefully (you got 3 dodges instead of 2 if you go 15 or 20 in acrobatics).
I’m not ashamed to admit i abuse stealth (shadow refuge, blinding powder and cloak in shadows are always on my bar + there is the dagger 5 skill). I only die when i’m very careless, i have tons of options to disengage with bow 5 and shadowstep (which i love it gives you great mobility and cleanses conditions). For an average player like me it’s perfect. I win 50% of the fights and when i lose i nearly always manage to run away.
I figured with this build i easily kill average players (but you have to be patient as there is no dps burst). I link using the 1500 distance stealing trait as it helps a lot when you chase runners.
In zerg vs zerg situation i will use daggerstorm to mark people (lot of bags) and then chase elems that are staying at a distance from the main line (they provide a lot of useful combos especially the water combo so it’s nice to get them down fast).
For gear, it’s pretty easy to be full exo if you’re patient and save your precious gold carefully. What i do is i do my dailies in pve, mining things like platinium/iron some sorts of wood and sell them. This + gold from the WvW leveling chests is enough to get you 1-3 gold a day (depending on play time). It’s not too bad if you don’t farm pve imo. After a few weeks you can gear.
For the moment i use full Power-Condition-Vitality armor-weapons-trinkets but i’m saving for Condition-Vitality-Toughness armor (called Errol’s armor) which is quite expensive (about 30 gold for the full set) but will increase survivability even more.
That’s it i hope it helps.
Ascended gear, skins, minis and fluff stuff are for people who want that extra goal. They are not required.
I take issue with this statement…not at you so pls don’t take this the wrong way….but I have seen this argument always thrown out there when its about this topic.
That is because all those that you have mentioned are something essential to an mmo. So in actuality, they are required. Fluff has been part of mmo culture since probably its inception.
Its akin to saying you do not need air conditioning and a radio in your car.
I agree with Caramel Ham. I like cosmetics, but i don’t want to grind that much. And if you choose to ignore the “optional grind” (i include living story here), there isn’t much left to do in this game, except pvp/wvw which have a lot of issues.
As it’s been said many times before, a player who criticizes the game is good because it means the game is alive (and i agree that criticism doesnt include any kind of insult, but expressing a disapointment isnt insulting).
1) wardrobe for cosmetics/skins
2) balancing of WvW
3) alt friendliness (make a lot of stuff like dyes, wxp etc… account bound)
4) real expansions with classes/races/maps
5) a complete overhaul of the personal story
bonus : a lot less grind in every part of the game. Live with your own standards Anet. Ask yourself “is it fun” for every decision you make.
Thank you for the post, very well said OP. I completely share your feelings about this issue.
I appreciate a lot the efforts of the devs to start communicating with us more, and i also appreciate their effort to get rid of trolls/disrespectful people on this forums. On the other hand, it will take a lot more then that to gain my trust back (i believe I’m not the only one in this case).
It’s one thing to “make mistakes”, and i understand and will never blame the devs for that (for example the resent warrior’s leg specialist bug).
I also understand that balancing the classes in the game is a long and difficult process, especially if you want to balance pve-pvp-wvw at the same time. This is a design choice i disagree with but i respect Anet decision and it’s been consistent.
What i do not accept as a player and a person is things that go the opposite way of what the game was advertized for and is still advertized for (grind, lackluster story not being improved, lack of attention toward PvP, WvW). This is the main reason for the animosity on the forums. People can get really emotional about their mmos and they feel cheated.
So yes, OP, i agree with you. It will take a lot for Anet to gain my trust back. For the moment, I’m still moderately enjoying the game, not even thinking about starting any insane grind and ready to jump ship as soon as something interesting is released.
Was looking for a place to post, been inactive 2-3 month, started to play again this week. I rarely post, but this time I’d like to send ArenaNet a wake-up call.
First of all let me say this. So far I found GW2 was great because to get a character in full exotics took some effort, but was after all accessible. This means new players can pretty fast be on par stat-wise, and it is rather player decisions, skills, tactics, etc, that will decide the outcome of a battle.. And this is(was) also great because you can(could) max all your alts, and try various classes, playstyles, have different set of gear, etc.
I like to be on par with my opponents. The 5-10% introduced by Ascended Weapons is huge. And we can only expect the Ascended armor to be something similar. I play almost only WvW, I hate PvE mostly, I hate the grind-fest, I could care less for crafting. When I logged in couple days ago and my friends told me this, I was disgusted.
I will never have a Legendary, but “that’s fine”. Some of the skins are pretty cool, but I just don’t want to spend my time in the PvE/harvesting grind required. I wouldn’t mind if they made some epic looking stuff unlocked as I play more in WvW, but my hopes for that are long gone.
I have spent almost all the gold (probably something like ~500g) I made since november 2012 in upgrades/siege in WvW to contribute in my server’s war effort. Considering WvW doesn’t pay much (it used to be horrible, now it is ‘decent’), I am always broke, but I don’t mind.
So honestly, I find the decision to make ‘Ascended Weapons’ only available through crafting to be (yet again) ignoring the WvW folks. We don’t care if it will be patched in 3 months. It should have been part of the ‘Ascended Weapons’ introduction. Why does WvW always have to be ignored in the initial introduction of new stuff?
Couple ideas
- Make Ascended Weapons cost 5k badges, or 250 skill points
- Make Legendaries cost 25k badges, or 1000 skill points.
- Make some achievements in WvW (equivalent of … 1000h+++ time invested???) unlock some cool stuff (Ascended, Legendaries, PvE equivalent skins, etc)
- etcSo that way, people that have been very active in WvW for a long time would not be forgotten in some dark corner. After a long and successful WvW career, these PvPers could get some cool stuff too, without having to do stuff they dislike (PvE, exploration, crafting).
For once, find something that makes sense for WvW centric players, that are not crying to be “special snowflakes”, but just want to be On Par with their opponents stat-wise.
Why couldn’t we get the Top-Gear, Stat-wise (and why not Skin-wise?), by playing the ONE thing we like in this game : WvW.
Make it happen.
Thank you.EDIT: And the numbers I put in suggestion is just to “go-with-the-flow” of what you are introducing, i.e. ‘something Very Hard To Get’. I don’t think it’s a good idea (see my initial thoughts on gear-accessibility and ALTS), but hey, very-hard-to-get is still better than “simply unavailable through WvW”.
As an avid WvW i 100% sympathies with this post. I just don’t get it at all. Why would they not reward a portion of their player base who don’t PvE ? How come a game that was advertised on no grind-play it your way blablabla has become such a mindblowing grindfest ? I wouldn ‘t mind ignoring ascended gears if i was PvE only but i’m on WvW 90% of the time and this will make a difference…
Please arena net stop making grindy stuff and make fun stuff instead. It’s a game not a job. Stop rewarding people with no talent/no life whose ambition is to train farm the same easy mobs, easy dungeons just to make some gold quickly.
So i agree with Shiver and like he said “make it happen”.
Thanks.
As a mostly WvW player i feel incredibly let down by the communication and the way the WvW devs handle the whole updates. The communication problem is on your end anet, not on the forum’s.
As some other poster stated, AS SOON AS there is another option available for WvW type gameplay in a mmorpg, i’m off. The state of WvW is such a mess that i don’t see how you could save it. And your PvE isn’t good enough (terrible story telling, incredibly bland “living world”, grind grind grind etc…)
As many players, i wanted to love this game so much and i wanted to believe in your lies.
Back on the topic of communication, i will never insult another player/dev, these are real persons behind their computers, but clearly we are all waited for YOU to improve anet, You’re the reason why the forum has turn into such a negative place, for dozens of reasons stated by most of the above posters.
Thanks for reading,
a customer.
So I spend most of my time in WvW. I personnaly feel that it’s the “true endgame” of GW2. It’s the reason why I build and equip my characters. There are so many things that I find wrong about WvW that I don’t know where to start. I want to think : “Thanks to WvW GW2 is the game i’m gonna be playing for the years to come.” WvW is the motivation behind going back to PvE and levelling new characters. But sadly the true at the moment is as soon as another mmorpgs is releasing something similar to WvW, i’m going to jump ship (maybe to be desapointed by this new game but that’s another story).
1st : despite everything that i’ll say later, it’s still somewhat fun. I love roaming, I love destroying bad players, I love being destroyed by better players, and coming back to be destroyed by the same players over and over because I think i’m learing from them. I love zerg versus zerg huge messy fights, I love guild raiding and wiping bigger zergs because we are organized and they are not.
But, the biggest issue is population unbalance. I’d love to have an idea to fix it but I don’t. It’s a huge issue as it’s not fun playing blowouts (doesn’t matter if you’re on the winning or losing side). One think that might even things out a little bit is to stop rewarding the most populated server. The bloodlust buff is doing just that and the AOE cap as well. There should be a way for 10 well organized skilled players to wipe 30 pugs.
The one thing that would have, I think, a huge positive impact would be to remove the downed state. Remove the AoE cap as well. Buff the undermanned server with actual stats increase (like the bloodlust buff) and make blood lust a buff that impact dolyak speed, improvement construction speed etc…
The commander system needs to be grealty improved. (guild only commanders, PU commanders, roaming camp-capping commanders) with easier ways for the commander to communicate with whoever is on the map. (let him “mark objectives” for exemple).
Many players had some very good, probably hard to implement ideas about how to improve WvW (I remember a fun “mercenary” idea from a poster in WvW forum where you could fight for an undermmaned server if you queued on your own server).
What puzzles me the most is that I understand that WvW doesn’t have the same manpower as PvE, but this manpower is “wasted” (it’s the way I feel sorry) on things like blood lust or the upcoming leagues. Why create leagues when the game is so unbalanced ?
The level of communication in the WvW forum is terrible. We are not given any reasons as for why the stuff the devs there are making happen. Maybe there is a master plan and it will all come together latter on. Could you please share it with us ? From our perspective it all looks totally random.
Anyway thanks for reading this very long post, I hope I didn’t come up as insulting our upset or whatever. I just sincerely wanted to share some “constructive” feedback. If the game doesn’t entertain me, I won’t make no drama, i’ll leave and life goes on
The events are imo the best feature of the game. I do them for fun (except the “gathering” events). Of course the events would have to scale very well according to the numbers of players in the area. And i’d love all the events to give way better rewards, with maybe some unique rewards attached to the area. That’s how I would love to progress in the world. At the moment, it feels to me like a chore because of the hearts.
I personnaly find the random “living stories” totally underwhelming, with ridiculous “achievements” that do not reward skill at all or do not feel epic what so ever. It’s a grind in the sense that you are doing unfun stuff like clicking F many times to go get done with the story. Also the temporary nature of some of it I don’t like. I came back in the game after a 3 months absence to find out that there wasn’t nearly anything new to the game. So I don’t do living story anymore.
I don’t like the dungeons but sadly I wouldn’t be able to tell you why exactly so my opinion on the topic don’t really matter. Still i’d say it’s probably because of the bosses that are HP bags and because of the fight mechanics that mainly involve avoiding red circles on the floor.
I haven’t done many fractals (I think i’m level 3 or 4) but I found some of them way more fun except i’m not going to do them over and over again. But I think it’s quite nice that they are here for people who enjoy dungeoning.
About gearing, I, like many posters, totally dislike the ascended grind. It was the reason why I left months ago before coming back. Because ascended are now in the game, i’d like to be able to get them with more currencies (pvp glory, WvW tokens, karma, gold, whatever). Bottom line : i’m doing my daily to get whatever ascended I can get with laurels but if I ever feel that i’m on a disadvantage in WvW because of ascended (hasn’t happen yet as I feel most serious and skilled WvWers don’t like to grind for ascended), i’ll just quit. If it was (a lot) easier to get, I would’nt mind.
About cosmetics, I find it really sad that you have to pay gems to get all the new cosmetics that you seem to release. Also I think we need a wardrobe to change our look “on the go” without having to bind a specific gear to a look. That would be some kind of horizontal progression I would love. I love trying to match different cosmetics but sadly i’m limited in that by the system.
I don’t sPvP because of the build restrictions.
WARNING : very long post so sorry about that but I barely ever post so i’m saying everything on my mind Also english isn’t my primary language.
Hello, in the light of Chris Whiteside rescent post, I would like to give a shot at giving constructive feedback to the company whose game i’m trying to enjoy. Please keep in mind that it’s all my personnal opinion. I don’t feel that Anet should do everything I want just because I paid 60 euros on the game + maybe 20 euros on gems. But we all know that ignoring players concerns isn’t the way to make a succesful mmo.
My gamer’s profile : “serious casual” gamer, I play 2-3 hours a day but i’m not interested in power leveling or farming for anything. If it’s not fun, i’m not doing it (exception for the dailies in GW2 but more on that later.) I’ve never enjoyed mmorpgs i’m more of an action game fan (BF3, L4D2, Borderland2 for exemple). I always wanted to enjoy mmorpgs but i’ve tried quite a lot and I find them all unexiting gameplay wise and with boring questing so I usually quit within weeks. Until GW2.
1st of all about Chris post : thanks a lot for posting something, as you aknowledged, the level of communication from anet has been sub-optimal to say the least. Sadly, what I get from your post is a lot of PR/marketing blabla (awesome, groundbreaking etc…) and (i’m sorry to say) I felt that my intelligence was a little insulted by it. Why not say : “Please i’d like to remind you to be respectful to each other and our staff, these are real persons behind the computer, infractions will be given accordingly etc…” But anyway I don’t take it personnaly and again something is better than nothing so thanks for posting.
What I do in GW2 : mostly WvW, some PvE but only because i’m a complesionist and I like going for 100% map explo on my characters.
I’d like to enjoy PvE as I love colaborative stuff but it has several issues. For me, the main issues are the poor story and the way a story I find deeply unintersting is delivered (dialogues in the personnal story). Our character has no personnality, never gives an opinion and is given very gimmicky choices on the way. Also the lore on the open world isn’t delivered very well. Why am I “doing hearts” ? Because I need XP. Not because I want to save the day or I want to solve whatever is going on in the area. So it becomes more like a chore list then anything exiting. My favorite zones in the game are the 3 Orr zones, because there are no hearts and it’s all story/event driven. I’d love all the zones to work this way. You enter a new zone, there is something going on, events pop up around the place and you jump in, doing whatever needs to be done at that time. On the way you discover cool places (panoramas, PoI etc…)
Agreed with OP !
Hard to read paragraph (please edit !) but very valid point ! Defending should be more fun/easier and there should be a point in upgrading structures.
What is baffling is why Anet does not listen to the player base, what the people supporting and populating this game mode ask for and give feedback about.
No one asked for the ruins, no one asked for a little sPVP area smashed down in the middle of the BL. No one asked for more buffs to stack over population servers advantages even more.
There are plenty of other issues in WvW that are talked about every day that they could be working on. Instead out of the blue they create some random idea that no one wanted or asked about, and expect it to succeed?
The level of disconnect and obliviousness here is very concerning.
Very well said. I understand that they have little ressources to work on WvW compared to PVE, and i don’t mind because a company has to allocate resources accordingly to incomes. So fair enough.
What i don’t understand i WHY these resources are spent doing something so random ? There are so many things that everyone agree are needed (commander improvement and fixing population unbalance mainly). Yes some people were complaining about the huge water area in the middle of borderland but why replace it with that ?
Why coming up with league idea while all the games are fixed by population/coverage ? Why not fix population unbalance 1st ?
If at least the devs would just tell us what is the big idea behind it… communication here would be a huge step forward. Maybe there is a master-plan and we don’t see it.
Well, I’m just guessing here, but if you are up against a server who can hold 3 orbs while simultaneously taking and holding their own keeps. bloodlust is the least of your worries.
The thing is i don’t know anyone who think the buff is a good idea. There are 2 attitudes : 1) it’s terrible, WvW will die etc… 2) it’s bad but not THAT bad because there are things that make the game even more unbalanced. And it’s Anet decision so even if it’s bad there is no need to complain it won’t be changed.
I’m in the 2nd case but that doesn’t make me a happy customer.
Hahaha ! Thanks OP i seriously lol’d when i saw the picture
Europe T1 player here. I rarely see anyone in the ruins. Most of the time the ruins aren’t control by anyone. It seems like sometimes zergs will make a quick stop by a ruin if they’re passing by and they have a minute to spare and that’s it.
The problem are : 1) no personnal reward in a game mode (WvW) that already lacks rewards 2) the design of the area is ridiculous. Instead of a nice open fighting area we got this area clustered with stairs, tunnels, hills etc…
I’m seriously starting to think i prefered the lake. I wish they’d just replace it with some flat land instead. As for the buff, i still don’t see the point of having it but i can’t say i’ve seen any difference.
What i find inherently fun :
- WvW : Zerg vs Zerg, solo roaming, small group roaming, taking and defending forts. I love it, i’d love more/different maps,/sort of objectives
- Doing events, i almost always do the one that involve fighting something.
- Exploring, finding cool remote places (my favorite area is the underground skrytt (spelling) city i think it’s in a norm map.
- Jumping puzzles
- Collecting armors to change the look of my characters. Please make a working “wardrobe” it would add so much fun imo.
- Collecting dyes
What i don’t like :
- hearts : they look like a list of boring stuff to do (most of them).
- living story : not interesting
- personal story : it is bad.
- dailies : it’s more of a chore than anything fun. Thanks god they’re short, i find that i’m starting to play “the way i want to play” once i’m done with them. Bad psychological impact on me.
- Events that involve gathering stuff.
- WvW : karma trains.
- Crafting.
Really good fun tonight against IRON in GvG (red map). Our guild (GHO) got invited at the last minute by WL. We were totally unprepared (+we are not a top guild like WL IRON AEGIS KAZ etc…anyway) and wipped in 15 seconds on the first fight, i guess in 30 seconds in the second but we did better in the third. We were so proud to not be totally ridiculous that last time It really got us motivated to improve and up our game.
Thanks IRON and WL for the fun and i hope we can do this again sometimes. (Even better i hope anet will include a proper GvG update sometimes).
Also it was fun to sit next to our enemies and watch the fights
Cheers from Vizunah.
In European T1 : KAZ, MoS, WL.
Good luck all for the week !
The GvG idea is awesome, and seriously, after having fought you KAZ guys on the red map tonight after reset, it confirms that (imo) KAZ is the best guild amongst our 3 servers. I hope the guilds from Grand Cross will hear your call for the GvG
Cheers from Vizunah.
To be honest, i find PVE in this game to be incredibly boring. It’s ok the first time you level up, and a world is gorgeous, but then, the dungeons are really poorly designed (i come from a small dungeon based mmorpg which really spoiled me with excellent and clever dungeon design), the open map action is extremely repetitive and once you reach 80, well, FOTM 19 lf3m.
But i think anet’s move was nothing short a genius : there was a lot of angry people protesting the lack of endgame, and they tossed them 1 (yes just ONE even if it’s made of several smaller dungeons) dungeon and the angry people turned into zombies and started running it. I don’t get it to be honest : why do people accept to run around in circle like that ? It’s sounds as fun as watching only one episode of your favorite tv show over and over and over again. Are you looking for a fun game or for an addiction ?
Of course now the other kind of players is worried.
We shall see, but i hope anet will make content for everyone, not just for endless unfun pointless grinding fans. If it wasn’t for WvW, which i love despite the many complaints, i would have been long gone.
Why is it only Deso whining about Vizunah in here? From what I’ve seen, you don’t fight any different than Viz by now – zerging & hiding in towers. Every server does that to a certain extent, so no need to whine about it.
Everyone knew what the match is gonna be like – plain boring.
Dude wtf is wrong with you……hiding in towers is one thing but to run to a tower to avoid open field battle….that is definatly not Desolation but Viz and you know that….stop spreading this BS.
To run to a tower to avoid a fight when outnumbered 2:1 = playing clever.
To withdraw to a tower to repack and come out fighting as a tight unit = playing clever. We wipe bigger zergs in the open all the time. (not saying that the opposite never happens, we do get wipe by smaller group we they have a better organization).
But please, keep your delusions about Vizunah
we are leading in peak times
we are fighting in open fields
we are kicking out guilds that cheatAs far as i have seen you havent done single of these things.
Sorry Deffe but you’re just wrong We are not always leading in peak times of course, but we are are certainly not always losing. Again, just stop QQing and stop looking for excuses just so you can feel better. Up your game instead.
Guardian is pretty good and useful for the group when in the middle of a zerg
Also the Dev tracker shouldn’t include tech support responses as well it makes it incredibly difficult to follow to obtain meaningful data aimed at the community when its jumbled up with informaton targeted only at individuals.
Agreed
I do thing that it’s gotten worse since the last patch. Not fun being wipped by invisible opponents, not fun wiping opponents that don’t fight back because they can’t see us :/
I have to agree that the way anet handles communications with the WvW community is underwhelming at best.
I could totally understand that it takes a while to fix things, but keeping us updated on a regular basics would be nice. Especially after many post are made about the same topics (culling, queuing, reasons behind the ranking resets etc…)
If i had to make a guess, i’d say that we are a very small percentage of their store revenues.
Keep your delusions about VS if it makes you feel better about yourselves people
I’ve been part of zergs who have wiped bigger zergs many times, the opposite happened many times as well of course. As far as turtleing (sorry spelling) goes , we are not using it constantly, only when we have to, and our opponents use it as well. But really, find excuses it’s okay
PS : of course some of us exploit glitches, it’s sad, but other servers (specific guilds actually) use them too. Hopefully it will get fixed soon enough so you can see it won’t change anything about server’s performances.
I COULD of course talk crap about other guilds/servers camping the JP and using other cheap techniques but what’s the point ? There are lame people everywhere.
Vizunah square however walks with zergs of 40, defeating EVERYTHING in their path, even coordination doenst help. It’s like they are a computer, they always have the perfect response, and face it, every human makes mistakes. Even the over focussed french people. Yet somehow they always escape their doom..
What?
Thats the complete opposite of our experience against VS. They hide in their keeps, and siege stuff up amazingly well. Dragging out a siege for ages.
But the moment we catch them outside of their keeps, it doesnt matter how “massive” their zergs are we just faceroll right over them, they cant fight for kitten. The moment they realize we are there, even if we havent hit them yet, they already start backpeddling and motioning to run away.
I’m convinced its why they golem rush everything, if they actually had to fight for it they’d be in deep kitten. All that matters of rushing through defense with Golems, avoiding zerg fights and arrowcarts, arrowcarts and more bloody arrowcarts. VS fights like a tier3 server yet they’ve been tier1 since forever. Thats more then enough evidence for me.
Lol.
Both of you live in a parallel universe. You do realize how ridiculous you 2 sound right ? We are exactly just as skilled as any other playerbase from other servers. No more, no less. Our organization is excellent, so is our communication, but we’ve been beaten before and we all love a good challenge.
Go back to reality people, all is BS about VS this VS that is very funny and tiring. Again all we have is excelent communication and organisation, and anyone can achieve this.
There are like 4-5 topics at the moment about queue in WvW. This needs to be fixed. Anet please show us you care and are looking into this ?
…still no official comment from anet, this is from far the worst issue in this game for any wvw player. We can’t raid anymore with my guild
I wish they will one day create a mmorpg without any loot at all (maybe only cosmetics ?) . And i would gladly play gw2 for a few more years if they got read of all the loot ^^
NO. Even when they will add new content, all they have to do is make it 80 and that’s it.
Theres two reasons why vizunah is the best server in EU at the moment.
1) WvW is a point capping game. Vizunah is clearly the best server in this one. Some may say it’s boring to play against but hey it gets the job done.
2) Quantity over quality. At this moment Vizunah has the biggest WvW playerbase coverage over time. Better coverage -> more points. In t1 every server has decent amount of coordination and skills so no need to mention that. Those two things = Winning. No insults here to anyone but the cold facts everyone should know. There’s no arguing about it
We’ve got quantity AND quality
Please Anet, stop telling us it looks just fine. It doesn’t, since the patch, every single WvWer i know in game have noticed the same thing : longer queues and empty maps. There is something up.
