I couldn’t ever hope to say it better myself, and as AOL closes Joystiq and Massively I think it’s appropriate to let them have the last word on this. I just wish someone at ArneaNet read this article:
I know some of you will argue that this horizontal progression is different. All I can say is I disagree, it feels like just the latest take on linear progression to me.
Whether you agree or not, it’s still a great read from a source that should not be shut down!
As I first read the topic I was like, yeah, I’m gonna break this hater… Now I feel lost, empty, and naked in the dark. The writer is so right. Why can no one make a game that is simply focused on being FUN? Scrap the whole level thing, scrap everything related endgame, and make a game that is viable from the first second you start playing it.
Re-configure the class system. Instead of choosing a specific class you choose the weight class, then the traits and skills you choose will determine what class you are. To this more classes should be added.
- Heavy Class: Guardian / Warrior / Marauder
- Medium Class: Ranger / Engineer / Thief
- Light Class: Necromancer / Elementalist / Mesmer
TL;DR Slopes and Stairs in WvW are a pain in the rear and cause annoying death for no reason. Please fix.
This, literally.
It says unique on the ring.
It’s a really small tag at the bottom of the stats, barely noticeable. And how are people supposed to know what this ‘unique’ tag actually means?
It’s called paying attention, reading something and applying common sense. But no, there should clearly be a fifteen page PDF guide to walk people through this.
If it were actually unique it would be impossible to buy more than one. and only one person would have it.
Exactly, thats the logical extension of the term.
Yes, and people saying “you should have read about it” is just not acceptable, and here is why:
In difference to what many no-life whatevercore players think, this is a game. To the fullest extent of the word “game”, this is it. It is not work. It is not a learning ground per say. It is meant for us to play and enjoy. EVERYTHING I need to know about the game MUST be available for me to learn IN the game.
The term “unique” is as mentioned above, at the very best, vague. Many things are unique, but these rings are not. The simple word “unique” does in no way hint of a restriction to the use of simply one ring – BECAUSE I can purchase more than one, and more people than me can have it – thus it is NOT unique. Unique is not a sentence, thus it is not a description.
TLDR;
Anet made a bobo and there is nothing anyone can say to justify anything but. I shouldn’t have to play other mmos for 20 years to understand things in this game, nor should I be required to play gw1 to understand the mechanics of gw2, nor should I need a wiki to understand the game: IT MUST BE SELFEXPLANATORY.
How about a simple question to prevent bots from messaging us?
What class is this character?
What is the name of this character?
What level is this character?
When the question is answered correctly you can send a whisper, get it wrong and you can try again after an exponentially growing cooldown!
I feel sorry for you backward striving people. It must be really difficult to live in a world of constant change.
The game you’re looking for is called Skyrim. There you won’t have to meet other actual people
Personally, I feel that it is awesome to finally meet people who are willing to do other things than just run a zombie zerg through Queensdale.
Hi, my name is Dave, and I’m a wardrobaholic.
(My name isn’t really Dave)
It’s an insane feature, my biggest weakness… Unlimited customization without any hazzle…
I’m curious tho. I’ve been out of the game for a while… Where is the rage? I mean… I just unlocked Abyss for all my character, and I was actually considering buying a second bottle a few months back! And to think about all the poor people who’ve put time and money into buying T3 cultural armor copies… And making dual legendaries (if anyone has done that yet, I sincerely weep for them).
I love this patch.
Why are developers so inlove with leveling systems?
Let’s face it, there are good players, and there’s bad players:
The bad players are still bad after having grinded their way to level 80, and they’ll continue to be bad because they can’t be bothered with taking the extra hours to figure out what’s what.
Then, there’s the good players who near instantly know what they’re doing – they’re forced through an awful grind to finally reach the actual game.
Just throw the leveling system out the window or figure out a way for us to enjoy the game – and NO, leveling isn’t fun. I don’t need it to learn, and I don’t need it to enjoy a game. If developers would work on making the game fun, engaging and rewarding to explore I wouldn’t be FORCED to do all those things just to get to the next level, I would WANT to do them because they’d be FUN.
This. This. This. This. This. This.
I share a deep platonic love for you Saviour. In difference to you I would sincerely like to tap the forum on the nose. Anet is listening to the majority of people who provide constructive critisism. Look up “Constructive critisism”, make sure you understand it, practise it, and you can finally expect to have your voice heard. Also PLEASE stop the friggin drama! No wonder they don’t listen to you when you all act like spoiled brats. No one ever listens to a spoiled brat, apart from their parents, and Anet is NOT your parent.
Don’t like the game? Quit. NO ONE CARES.
I’m a no for race change. That’s just too unrealistic for me. Prefer an elite on another race? Make a character with the race that has that elite!
So remodeling your face and gender makes perfect sense for you? LOL.
I love endgame way too much to level up an alt character. There is absolutely nothing fun about it. Armors prior to level 80 look so bad it’s ridiculous.
HOW ABOUT you get the option to change race at level 80, but you have to replay the entire living story without rewards? I would pay that prize, easily.
EDIT:
My main is a male guardian (VIGIL), when I got to about level 60 I noticed some female whisperer warrior npcs and I fell inlove with them. If they would allow us to change I would go for Whisperer, and make a sex change. C’mon Anet, I will throw hundreds of bucks at you if you make order changes possible!!! Also, I think a lot of human players would change FROM human rather than people changing TO human.
(edited by iFocus.3781)
Because it would be a major bummer for everyone who can only play during night / day time. And just why on earth would this suggested function only work on Americans servers – or be syncronized to them?
A six hour cycle would be much more appropriate.
Actually, I would love to see an RPG where everything was depending on YOUR skills and ability to handle situations in the game. No grind, whatsoever. All skins available to everyone would put more focus on peoples ability to combine different skins and colors to make a great identity – rather than 3,000,000 people who run around in expensive armor parts that looks TRASH together.
Remove all grind elements, and re-think the way rewards are given. There are other means of rewarding players than giving them a piece of armor for their effort.
I can see how this is going to nerf all loot in a devastating way for new players, unless they get a potion of luck as well – in which case I see no reason to why any of us is getting a potion in the first place.
MF boost to all accounts means that better loot is gonna drop more often, this, should put the game off balance which will lead to a drop nerf. Right?
Again, I would normally be with you, but for many obvious reasons, I would never back this up. Fighting players need to have some indicators of whom to target. Maybe if it was a PVE only change, then I’d be fine with it.
Easy fix: Make it so their class shows when interacted with, rather than having to guess what class it is by their armor type.
A character wearing heavy armor can either be squishy while dealing massive damage OR be as thick as the earths crust. IMO your argument is moot.
fantasy or not, it would kinda ruin what realism there is.
on the other hand, they could make more armour skins that sort of look like the other two types but still remain firmly in one of them.
what they should do, is make skins bought from the gemstore unlocked in the character tab like some reward skins are
Realism? Is it realistic that a hunter can’t wear a piece of cloth armor? That’s absolutely RIDICULOUS.
I often choose character according to: armor type, weapon, gender, class
I am an aestetic person, and not the only one who spends hours and hours customizing my characters.
TES made it so that all classes can wield all weapons and wear all armors, only making it so that some classes draw more benefit from certain weapons or armors rather than forcing a specific class to be played in a certain way.
In conjunction to this, I’d like to see official controller support. I’m sure a lot of players would love to be able to kick back onto their sofa and enjoy GW2 on their big screen TV, without having to kludge mouse and keyboard on their lap.
This.
However, apparently one is not hipster enough if one sees a keyboard and mouse as too clumpsy.
well if you hadn’t smoked all those cigarettes you wouldn’t be colorblind
So I’m the only one that laughed at this? I thought it was funny, nice job, Chickenshoes.
You’re forgetting that 99% of all internet users have Aspergers Syndrome.
OT: I’m not colorblind, but I see no reason as to why there shouldn’t be an option for alterting UI and other colors in the game.
It was a tech-support joke.
“Have you tried unplugging it, then plugging it back in?”
It’s the characters age that counts, thus people who were satisfied with their intial characters recieve more than one birthday gift.
I myself got one, since I’ve remade my characters about 3000 times each, apart from my main.
Pressing ctrl+h should disable that, but it doesn’t.
I agree. Almost every other program and game has a “don’t show again [ ]” feature.
Anyone who bought it for magic find didn’t do their homework.
This is not an eligable reason. If it wasn’t specifically announced in the game, or in a related OFFICIAL annoucement post it is not acceptable.
Most people play games for fun. I play games for fun, on hardcore level. This also means that I’m interested in playing, not spending 5-10 hours lurking around the forums (which btw is overflowing with bs exaggerations and misinformation).
By making all off use colorblind is not the right way to go.
How very understanding of you. If you ever lose the ability to walk I sincerely hope that no one installs ramps to help you get up stairways.
all this naive white knighting has got to stop.
White knighting? I’m merely asking people to start using their brains.
There’s a bit more to it. In multiplayer games, the players themselves are part of the content of the game. It is important to have a strong, vibrant community in game, both to play with and to play against. The player that sticks around for the game and isn’t mean spirited is adding to the quality of game, making it more appealing to the public at large and making buying the game a more attractive investment. Players who don’t buy a thing from the gem shop are contributing to the profits of the game indirectly in this manner, both with new sales and with making the game enjoyable enough for players to want to spend gems in it.
You don’t pay for gems, do you?
Sure, everyone contributes in some manner. But, you lurking about isn’t going to pay for Anet’s employees unless you actively recruit friends to join.
I have played this game since BW3, and frankly I find large parts of the community antisocial and alienating – especially the elite community – who just happens to be the one’s complaining about having to pay for things.
I agree with you Advent. It is very nice to be able to take a few days, weeks or months off without feeling guilt. However, the reality is that cash must flow. And in order for it to happen, people have to realize that there is plenty of honor in paying rather than farming. Sure, farming proves dedication – but paying shows loyalty.
…is a valid mechanism so stop complaining. They won’t take it away anyways, unless… Maybe Anet could toss in a few more useable items in the gem shop? How about an item that will reset the time gate for a dungeon or open world boss?
I know that patience and common sense are both rareties these days, but please consider this:
Anet is a company. Not unlike any other company, they need to make money. Do they make money off of you spending 4 billion hours on farming gold for gems, or tokens? No. If anything, our bandwith useage cost money. Money that many are ridiculously unwilling to push into the game.
Over the past few weeks I’ve seen multiple topics regarding farming taking too long, or gem prices being too high, or that Anet is ignoring it’s “loyal” playerbase.
“Our” (" because I hate speaking in general terms) definition of loyalty is a player that sticks with the game, despite it’s flaws. This person might be spending hours and hours again, everyday, playing the game – just to get enough materials to make a Legendary, or just because the person finds the game a worthy investment of time.
Truth is though, in Anet’s eyes, this isn’t a loyal customer. They need money, and of course that is their main focus so stop complaining about it already! It’s a company. People work there. People who need money. If you consider yourself a loyal customer, do you EVER spend gems in the gemshop? Or are you constantly complaining about the prices? A loyal player wouldn’t farm gold to get gems, but rather pull out the good old credit card and push some cash into the game. Think about it.
Here is what we all MUST make a stand on:
1 Gemstore
2 Subscription
You can’t have neither. Money must go to the bank. I would rather have prices in the shop dropped significantly in exchange for a monthly subscription. Either way, I would love to pay a monthly subscription to know that I am, in some mannar, contributing to Guild Wars 2’s continued existance.
The changes made to colors where to make it easier for people whom suffer from colorblindness. Please show some respect.
well i dont understand how u couldnt understand, my native language in spanish
And mine is Swedish, once again your argument is moot. The thing is though, I understand the full concept of “unique”, thus it is vague to me while you didn’t know the full meaning of the word, thus you looked it up.
…and still i understood that item.
There are a lot of reason why u didnt understand
the real is: u bought 2 rings, go cry and never forget to read again
ohh forgot, u read, so next time no believe in ur own brain and ask for help
Why would I ever ask for help for something I don’t need help with? Do you always consult google before answering what 1+1 is? I sure hope not.
but you did not ask yourself, why just this items has unique?
1. Your really didnt read
2. You read it and thought it was nothing special
An Ascended item is unique in itself. They don’t drop in OW, that’s unique enough.
1. I did read.
2. Exactly, because unique doesn’t have a unique meaning. It has multiple definitions – none of which would give a hint of one being able to use merely one ring. However, “unique” could be understood as there only being one ring in existence – which fell flat when I could purchase a second ring.
Why are you even trying to give me language lectures when your very own grammar, spelling and sentence structure fall short? Just let it go and accept “Unique.” as a vague description.
If u dont know the meaning of something, u can ask, search wiki or forums, if u play just for fun as u say why are u mad?
However, I do know the meaning of it so why would I bother searching for it? The term “unique” is insufficient. It does not mean that only one ring can be equipped at the same time. If it were “unique” as you describe it I wouldn’t even be able to buy a second ring – but so is not the case. I play for fun, and had it been regular gold I wouldn’t care, but laurels and tokens are hard to come by.
well we are similar, i have a girlfriend, i studied at the university, i have a full time job, i train jiu jitsu, unique is not a mmo-terminology, when i got the pristines to buy the ascended rings, months ago i read “unique”, so i decided to read about it, you can go to wiki directly from the game, and thats all
Next time: read, if u dont understand ask
So, if you have that many things to do besides gaming then you ought to understand that one would rather spend time playing, rather than reading, yes? And again, “unique” doesn’t mean a specific thing, it is an adjective and adjectives describe things, NOT the quantity of it.
This is not a game for kids who just play and do not read
Are you telling me that I’m not allowed to play the game for pure entertainment a little now and then, just to catch a break from my university studies? Are you telling me that I should, carefully, read each and every word written on each and every panel after 80 levels? Nope. Far from everyone read everything that is hinted, unless it can be identified as something urgent or important. But ascended gear carry nothing else but “Unique.” in plain white text, and no further explanation to it.
The socks I’m currently wearing are black. In a sense they are unique, because they are my socks. When I bought these socks I took for granted that I would be able to use both of them at the same time since I can use my less comfortable white socks at the same time. Do you see where I’m going with this? I can go on and on and on about how “unique” is not a commonly accepted term for “only one”.
And no, I’m not your typical no-life mmorpger. I have a fiancĂ©, a job and full time studies at university – so sorry if I missed the part where I needed to study mmo-terminology before I bought this ascended ring.
Hey folks.
I finally decided to spend some tokens and laurels to buy me some Ascended gear. I am either immensely kittened or someone in the game design crew made a big do-do. With my slight tendencies towards OCD there was no question about buying two of the same ring… Little did I know that one is required to take a doctorate on the game in order to not get robbed with NO option for correction. Apparently, one cannot use the two of the same ring, when the rings are of Ascended level. WHAT?!
I WASTED 25 Laurels and 250 Tokens all for NOTHING. How is this even possible?! Shouldn’t there be a little note somewhere, saying “Note that you can only equip one of the same items” or “HEY YOU! Yes, YOU! There shall be no purchases of the same item, TWICE.”
You can also practice running path 2 alone. This will enable you to practice to run through the trash and deadeyes.
Why would I need to practice running past trashmobs? Do their mechanics differ a lot from what you find in the rest of the game? Are they particularly vigilant?

Perhaps this would help you?
Thank you, that sure did put it in better context!
Hey everyone! I posted a few days ago in the php forum section and got absolutely ZERO response, so I hope I will get some luck here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Far-Shiverpeaks-EU-Arah-CoE
I’m looking for a good mentor to teach me the clock work in Arah. I have read about the paths but I have yet to actually get the experiance.
tldr
Server: FAR SHIVERPEAKS (eu)
Character: Metarradon
Spec: Guardian; 0,30,30,0,10 Knight Ar&We, Dolyak- and Major Force Runes
Teamspeak 3 Server
Location: Sweden, GMT+1
I realize I might be in the wrong place, but technically I’m not since I actually need help…
I need a mentor or group
So, I’ve decided to shelf the Cultural T3 armor and go for some dungeon armors. I’m going for (heavy):
Arah gloves
Arah chest
Arah leggings
CoE helmet
CoE greatsword
CoE sword + shield
I haven’t run Arah yet (since elitists make it tough to get in). I’ve done CoE a few times, nothing difficult there really.
About me and my character:
I’m 24 years old.
Former HoN coach and E-Sport Team Manager for Team Druidz
From Sweden.
Got a brain.
Listen and ask questions.
Learn fast.
Not a Leroy Jenkins kinda guy.
I’ve got a lvl 80 Guardian.
Knight armor and weapons (h, gs, sw/sh, sc, staff)
Dolyak Runes on all armor pieces.
Major Force Runes on all weapons.
0, 30, 30, 0, 10
Server: Far Shiverpeaks
Got a Teamspeak 3 Server for communication.
Character name: Metarradon
Looking for:
A solid group of people.
Loads of fun, be it through laid back grinding or bloody serious challanges.
Preferably not elitists, but I’m not very picky. Chemistry is the primary cog.
If you have questions go ahead and ask them!
You are more than welcome to come join me on server:
Far Shiverpeaks. It’s a EU server but there are decent coverage around the clock! There is little I don’t know about the core mechanics. If you don’t wanna join a EU server you are still welcome to whisper me or mail me questions.
Type “/w Metarradon >message<” ingame.
Hey everyone,
I share my account with my fiancee (who is just about as good as me, she usually stays away from wvw though). I’m 24 years old and mature :p We live in Sweden so our timezone is CET (GMT+1). We usually play during the morning or midnight hours.
I roll a Knight specced Guardian with Dolly runes.
Offensive playstyle, with focus on team play.
~ I am Frank the Tank.
We are looking for a decent sized guild with good players.
We are not looking for a huge unpersonal blob guild with a facist leader, but rather dedicated hardcore players who understands that RL always comes in first hand, and that bills must be paid.
tldr;
Name: Metarradon
Server: Far Shiverpeaks [EU]
LF 20-60 player guild
Experianced and mature
Active-ish on all hours
Previous guild: We Are The Last Shiverpeakers [OMFG]
Maybe I should move to Gandara while I’m at it lol. I’ll have a stab at Necro once and for all!
Hey guys. I’m sorry for the newbie thread but I just have to get this straight out.
Before the game was released I wanted to play both Guardian and Necro, eventually I ended up deleting my Necro before it even reached lvl 10 (something I’ve done repeatedly since launch). I want to play a necro, so bad… But I feel discouraged by the amount of complaints I find on the forums :/
Should I roll a necro once and for all?
Are necros welcome in dungeon groups?
Needed and wanted in wvw groups?
Charr or human?
Is there a particular build that is fun, engaging and good (weapon, utility and trait-wise)?
I would like to suggest the addition of a thread for each of the servers, which of course are restricted to the players on THAT server, where we can discuss tactics, plans and tips for each other.
+1?
Unfortunately, the delivered product did not meet all the hype in this circumstance.
Amen brother! Pre-game I was so hyped I imagined ascending to heaven upon installation of the game. Little did I know…
I haven’t seen a necro in a dungeon party since forever, which is really sad! I want to play one, but I’m greatly discouraged by the fact that they’re not a class that is being picked up.
I would love for them to have put in some energy in making the game so that the most efficient play style would be diversity, and not a stack of DPS.
(despite some Christianity references, I’m not religious lol)
For instance. in order to bring down a gate, you must first capture and hold the “gate shield” which happens to be on the other side of the keep. Occupying this area would allow the gate to be damaged.
I would tune down the self love a bit and consider this:
1: Defenders would have to pay zero attention to the gate, focusing 100% on the area that enables damage.
2: Attackers might just completely ignore the way you want them to act, and blob the said area, then leaving two zombies there while moving on to the gate.
And as for commanders not being visible on the map:
“/m(/t) where are the commanders?” – followed up by a map location ping.
Zergs and Blobs are as much part of this game as the players in it. That said I’m not a big fan of them, and tend to roam with a smaller group.
Making them account bound would be a more realistic solution.
/inspect would be used by people who suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect (incompetent people that not only fail to realize their own incompetence, but consider themselves much more competent than everyone else) more so than anyone else. Those with more than a pea for brains know that the game is relying on timing, awareness, creativity and the ability to work well under pressure.
Based off my own observation:
I had a group running CoF. Me and two guildies ran with MF gear. We did die a few times due to one player being fresh on the dungeon and not knowing the routine. The funny thing is, the last player, an elitist, started QQ about the wipes and started talking down on the new guy (mainly), rather than helping him understand the mechanics. After kicking this poor, incompetent worthless piece of skritt dirt, we actually managed to get the right spirit in the group and complete it a lot faster and without dying.
