Me and my gf are thinking of coming back to GW2. We stopped playing around January so we have completed HOT and a few raids as well.

So whats new? Whats the meta for farming and stuff and hows the living story/expansion coming?

Thanks guys

The arguments in this thread just shows how difficult (if not impossible) it is to please both the casual and hardcore gamers.

you either:
A) Create grindy challenging content for hardcore gamers. They are happy, casual players whine.

B) Create easy content for casual players. Hardcore players complain that there is nothing to do and content is too easy.

C) Create easy grindy content for both casuals and hardcore players. Both groups will complain. Casual players say they need to grind for 3 months, hardcore players say game is boring.

The original GW2 was mainly geared towards B ) and C) type content but HOT has so far only released A). Which MIGHT have been okay if they didnt nerf the rewards from B ) and C) to the kittening ground.

What would you change in GW2?

Hard Content - Stress Levels Increase Fallout

Its quite simple really, GW2 HOT just doesnt have enough fresh content.

The original GW2 might have been too easy in difficulty, but it had TONS of explorations and TONS of storyline branches leading to TONS of replay value. There were some complaints but overall it was great. Even 2 years into the game i still created new characters.

The current expansion however is just 4 maps designed specifically to milk out as much of your time as possible. The storyline is now linear and has no replay value. The map completion sure as hell has no replay value. Specializations were “yay” when they first came out but completely killed off the original class. Also dont forget the super grindy and buggy precursor crafting.

New maps – grindfest
Masteries – grindfest
Guild hall -grindfest
Raids-grindfest after all your other grindfests

Hurray for hardcore gaming. Hurray for outfits. But dont worry, people will keep coming back tho this game because WEE STILL HAVE 4 MORE DRAGONS TO GO AND WE CAN LEAVE IT TO 2030 HURRAY – Arenant thinking

It would be great if gw2 becomes a successful esport. With a lot of money coming in from external sponsors and event organizers maybe arenanet can then afford to stop their money grubbing gemstore practices and give us good bug-free content for once.

Having said that, I’m not sure how many people will find gw2 more entertaining to watch compared to the likes of LoL and Dota2

Playing from australia i have no issue with 230-300 ping every time. The game doesn’t lag or stutter because of high ping, just have to time dodges and jumps half a second earlier.

However this is certainly no good for pvp (sometimes unbearable in wvw), so if GW2 the E-sport plans on generating interest from Australia or the highly populated SEA region they will definitely need to open an oceanic server.

Hi guys,

I was thinking of claiming one of the many rooms in Lost Precipice as my own and decorating it etc etc. However, I’m not sure where the locations of the fully restored tavern/workshop etc are, and would hate to have my room taken control of by an npc.

Could someone who has completed these restorations highlight them on a minimap for me? There is a room in the northern area of lost precipice which i like but i have the sinking feeling is where the fully restored tavern is meant to be.

Thanks

You should just completely remove these situational sigils/potions then. Nobody will use them for easy content and if they cant be used for hard content stop making them fill up my inventory.

Wait what? If you are disabling the extremely situational sigils and items (the ones that work against 1 particular type of enemy, then what good are they at all?

I dont need a potion to kill a lvl 50 flame legion, I need one to kill a boss with 6 digit hp pool.

I thought that raids were going to be content that was SO challenging where the use of these situational items would become encouraged. This is kind of disappointing tbh.

They should return dungeon rewards to prenerf levels and double the bonus tokens, but make it a weekly reward.

This keeps it in sync with raid rewardsand gives players incentive to run it while not flooding the economy with gold

First try:
“Shield yourselves or take to the sky”
Oh what luck. I’m a guardian and I just happened to bring a shield with me.
Press 5
Does nothing
Dies.

Second try
“Shield yourselves or take to the skies”
Oh maybe I should jump off this platform and try to find an updraft
Tries to jump
Hits invisible wall
Dies.

Hey guys,

I agree with both sides of the argument. I like the fact that the hero challenges are hard but also agree that people shouldnt have to waste 20 minutes looking for others interested in the same HP.

There is I beleive a good solution to this (though I dont know how easy it would be for Arenanet to implement it), and that is Guild Missions!!

Perhaps have it on a random weekly rotation with something like this:
Easy mission: complete 1 combat based HP challenge in 5 minutes or less
Medium mission: complete 3 combat based HP challenges in 10 minutes or less
Hard mission: complete 5 combat based HP challenges in 12 minutes or less

This will encourage people to redo hero points to earn guild favors, people who still need the hero points will find help easily, and people in very small guilds can earn favor.

I expected gw2 to be about skins. I also expected it to be about exclusive skins. However what I imagined was a bit different from what it is..

This is what I expected:
1. Theres a new skin available in GW2. Anet challenges players to figure out the recipe.
2. After trial and error, player A eventually discovers the skin recipe.
3. Player A realises that the item is not hard to make, so he only shares the recipe with his friends B,C,and D.
4. Eventually everyone else figures out the recipe and it gets posted online. The game is flooded with people wearing the skin. Time to move on to the next one (next exclusive item).

This is what ACTUALLY happens in this game.
1. Theres a new skin available in GW2. Anet challenges players to figure out the recipe.
2. After long trial and error, player A finally discovers the recipe.
3. Player A realizes that the recipe has a rare component, so he and friends players B,C, and D buy up all these rare parts from the trading post.
4. Player A then releases the information online and resells the rare parts 10x higher.
5. Players A, B, C, and D are now the only ones wearing this exclusive skin because nobody else can afford it.
6. The end.

This may sound stupid but maybe they are trying to hide how many materials are available for the scribe profession to make the experience more fun for players.

Of course its more convenient to immediately have a collectable slot in the bank but if you knew all the materials needed for the new profession then you would immediately start searching for them and farming them, while missing some important aspects of the game.

Who cares if jump puzzles or vistas become easier? Its not game breaking content by any means. Even if I could use a gliding exploit to complete a jumping puzzle in a level 50 map I doubt I would do it.

A way for players to have fun without affecting the balance of the game, without affecting endgame progression and without affecting the economy. Why not?

Somewhere in the Arenanet building someone had a brilliant idea. By locking character mobility, hero points, and mastery points behind gated experience bars, they could make players circle the same area over and over and OVER again to make a content release seem much bigger than it actually is.

Now dont get me wrong I am having fun playing the expansion right now (a lot more than some of my other friends anyway), but if I had to objectively rate this expansion it would probably only get a 4/10 from me.

Will old classes be able to compete?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: imbalancedhero.3968

imbalancedhero.3968

Yes but I was just concerned that the “extra” trait line that specializations get may be overpowered.

i was also thinking that making separate characters for each class would be better because the meta may result in them using different equipment/runes/stats etc.

“down the road” may mean anything between 1 and 3 years with the way Arenanet is going these days. I am also worried that Arenanet may deliberately make specialized classes more powerful to encourage people to buy the expansion.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

imbalancedhero.3968

When HoT and specializations come out, will the old classes still be able to compete versus the new ones (in WvW, PvP, and hard PvE content)?

Will there be any reason (for example) a party would rather want a guardian rather than a dragonhunter?

Because if specialized classes are just going to be way stronger there is no point in keeping the older ones.

I have 2 characters for each class right now in preparation for this.

Firstly I want to apologize if this argument was already mentioned by someone else (hard to find because so many forum posts)

Next lets assume that both the GW2 core game and HoT have an effective gaming time (lets say 200 hours and 50 hours respectively). During this period, gamers are very interested in the game and are most likely to buy gems while being least likely to quit.

Then lets assume that new players and veterans will buy gems at the same rate.

Based on these assumptions then it becomes obvious that a new GW2 player is likely going to bring more money towards Anet than a veteran player, simply because they have more effective gaming time (forget everything you bought over the last 3 years, they dont matter anymore). A new player is also able to purchase things which veteran players would have already bought years ago (like bag slots, bank slots, black lion skins etc)

However, if arenanet is thinking “Hey we should try to make the same amount of money from veteran and new players over the next 6 months”, then the easiest way to do this isto make them pay more for the base game, and even encourage them to buy an extra character slot for $10.

TLDR: New player – cheap base game, can buy lots of gems
Veteran player – more expensive game, will not buy lots of gems
Overall both new and veteran players will spend the same amount of money which is all that matters to Anet.

What if anet has actually made a lot of new content involving the other elder dragons but has so far lacked the incentive to release it because there are too many players and they’re making too much money?

With the release of this feature patch, they will finally be able to tell their investors
“look guys patch was bad ppl leaving we have to release new content or bust” and then they will release a major expansion.

A lot of people I presume will immediately try to talk to Taimi after the inquest die hence triggering a different response from her which overrides what she is supposed to say.

zhaitan vs mordremoth ea scene [spoiler]

After watching the cutscenes 50 times-ish

Relative to the center, primordus and jormag are always on opposite sides, as is zhaitan and mordi, as is kralk and bubbles. Maybe they control opposite elements, or hate each other in particular, or balance each other out? Makes sense that mordremoth is making a move now zhaitan is dead

zhaitan vs mordremoth ea scene [spoiler]

in Living World

Posted by: imbalancedhero.3968

imbalancedhero.3968

Also if you look at the order the orbs start moving, it shows the following order

1.) red (primordus)
2.) light blue (jormag)
3.) dark blue (bubbles the water dragon)
4.) bright green (the one that goes into the center)
5.) purple (kralkatorik)
6). dark green

Now if we look at the order of dragon awakenings (going by wiki), it shows that the first 2 to awake are primordus and jormag. Then it seems that zhaitan and the water dragon wake up (no order is mentioned in the wiki but judging by the cinematic I guess the water dragon woke up a bit earlier). Then kralkatorik wakes up followed by mordremoth.

If this order is followed it means that the bright green orb that goes into the center represents zhaitan and his death. Any more thought on this? thanks

Does the last bit of the scene (where the greenish ball goes to the center) indicate that mordremoth is attacking the pale tree, or is it simply the destruction of zhaitan?
