Change the LFG popup

Right now every time I go to wvw it’s always empty (not the wvw, the lfg). In other words, nobody’s ever LFGing. So:

- Make the popup instead list all OPEN squads. That would actually make it useful, instead of having to open the map and mousing for the tag manually.

- Bonus points if you can make parties be open / closed and doing a similar thing there for wvw.

- Have an option to have the LFG window opened but “minimized”/anchored, so you can actually play while you lurk the LFG (that’s not just for WvW, but mostly fractals/dungeons probably, however it could make commanders more willing to LFG)

- Even more bonus points and 5 internets if you can streamline the squads:

  • making an option for “lobby” subsquad where people who join are put to be sorted by the commander/lieutenants (yeah you can use subsquad 1 for it, but it’d be great if you can actually designate a subsquad of entry, instead of having to move everyone else away)
  • making an option to have your subsquad members highlighted or a hybrid display, where you have your subsquad in bar form, but the rest of the squad as grid
  • giving your subsquadders’ nameplates different color in the world ui, since everyone is blue it’s hard to tell who actually is your subsquaddie so you can stay close enough for 600 range buffs in a blob squish.
  • make it so that the context menu doesn’t move when the person’s icon in the grid moves, resulting in accidentally friending / unfriending / blocking / kicking / whatever whenever someone joins or switches subsquads at the very exact moment.

Oh yeah, I’ve also recently went to WvW after a long time and my highlights would be exactly that just touching the burn area (quite likely as a melee) will get you stacks upon stacks of condis. I am an anti-condi DH and still suffered a condi death a few times.

To quote Dessa here: “Now that’s just excessive.”

As an upside, I’ve made a few condi thieves run in frustration. And that’s something, I guess.

Well at this point. I believe what needs to be done is to refocus WvW to guilds.
1) Drop the worlds system. They have little to no purpose since Megaservers.
2) Create fluid guild alliances. You can have 5 guilds per account. You should be able to join a single alliance per account this way. It would make it way more competitive with lower population. It can create fluid tiers too with total guild populations the limiting factor. GvG actually becomes a real thing within the game mode that was the closest to it.
3) I understand the devs wanted to make WvW inclusive for everyone. But we have EotM for that (sadly.) If a new player actually likes EotM they can join a WvW allied guild.

Removing larger group queuing in ranked was a bad decision. Hopefully that comes back for next season. Solo queue is a complete crapshoot and only serves to appease whiners.

Bringing back Team Q only appeases whiners that are not good enough to play solo and need Voice comms and friends so they can feel good stomping Pug solo teams.

imho there should be both, but team q only at high MMRs, so that it encourages team v team matches rather than pug slaughter fests

or separate solo q and team q leagues

Honestly, judging a fledgling rating system is pretty unwise, especially if you judge it by the first 10 matches that are supposed to determine your actual skill.

I’m not an esl player, I’m not a god of pvp, I’m average at best and at very least I can rotate with a decent understanding of the map main mechanics so why…why at 1400 rating

When considerng that 1200 rating is the average – what’s wrong with your – above average – rating of 1400?

I agree that the difference between player quality in a match is too big – but is has been like this since forever. SoloQ, TeamQ, Ranked, Unranked, Season 1,2,3,4 – it has always been an issue. It doesn’t has much to do with the ranking/league system – which is imo by far the best this season – it is more an issue of too small playerbase. “Fixing” it would lead to much higher queue times – not sure if that’s worth it.

Then again if ANet wants to bring more ESL or serious PvPers into the game, they should make a “lite” PvP client that doesn’t need to download all the PvE stuff and has a clean PvP only interface (that would replace the mists area). But this patch is a start. This patch brings in the very standard.

Many weapon skins look shabby by design and I think it would be nice for people to be able to tweak them. I do realize the weapons might not have been made with that option in mind, but this is Fashion Wars now anyway, so… Another plus would be backpacks. Right now you can’t really modify for example the moth wings backpack.

My suggestion would be so that the weapons don’t get too ridiculous (that’s where legendary skins come in) that the base color would have to be some metal (so that you can have a weapon made of “gold” or “mithril” or “iron” or “steel”) and then you can have some colorful tint to it. Then you could dye your hilt freely.

Same thing for the backpacks. The base color should stay the same with tints or material changes.

I didn’t get the achievement Available Guardian even after killing the Legendary Unbound Guardian twice. I was downed at the time it died the second time (not sure about the first time) and its death didn’t even rally me as if it didn’t register me hitting it. I think I did enough to tag it. I got gold participation and was there since it was at some 80% HP. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I have no idea what.

@ Mastery integration: You can already use it outside of story. When racing the jade constructs to the stalagmites, you have to counter their ability with the mastery or get ~15 stacks of confusion and torment.

I haven’t had problems with this. When you get the beam up you have to circle with the justicar. Swiftness helps. When you run with the justicar, it only takes a few moments to break the shield. I haven’t died here once (props to Marjory) and I’m zerker.

Last boss is a bit harder, since it knocks Marjory off as she tries to res you. lol Same thing though, put the construct between you and the stone and the shield melts quickly.

It’s quite hard to keep at the right position, if you go too far the beam will end, if you go too close you will get knocked out.

The last fight was easier since there is no endless spawning mobs and you only need to do it once. The main problem is that without any hints, it’s impossible to even know how to do the fight.

Didn’t have a problem with positioning myself. I would get knocked around a bit at times, but I thought that my own fault. Although I agree that the mob spawn should be boss % rather than time based. I thought the way to defeat the shield was self-evident after the first two golems.

The Destroyers waking up has nothing to do with Titans, Mursaat etc. Its just a Cycle that repeats itself, nothing more.

Well, technically, Elder Dragons awaken when there’s too much magic in the world. So, twisted nation-wide rituals and playing god with magic could significantly accelerate the process.

Well, honestly, this is still Guild Wars. And yes, GW1 people will know better what’s going on, but the story can’t be clean slate all the time, otherwise you’d be playing something else, not GW.

Play HoT -> Raids -> LS3 for the best story experience. And I don’t think you can get in the new area without LS3, because of the way you get there, but maybe you can somehow.

Yeah. There are more things that realistically couldn’t exist.

For example… oils would be safely above murder holes with gates deep inside, and rams would have roofs to protect against said oils. Catas wouldn’t be point-blank, as they would damage themselves. Siege would have a spread with increasing range and you could set the strength of the shot instead of kinda winding it until you feel it’s just right. And one of these things would be that higher ground would grant your skills greater range. Or that being on the walls would somehow protect you from attacks from below.

Well next to the button captioned “CHOMP” could be a cogwheel where you could set such options.
For the salvage part, we could feed it with salvage kits or put a salvage-o-matic in one of its slots.
Sorry it’s just a rant of someone coming out of silverwastes with a stack of boxes, that you can’t just get rid of that contain waste of time, luck and mats.

So I’m envisioning a bag… with XX slots. Champ (or other) boxes go in there with preference (same as, say, Oiled Bag).
Then you push a button (or maybe flip a lever) and all the boxes get scrapped into coppers and mats that you would get from shredding everything contained in the boxes (except for yellows+). Then those mats get deposited in your storage. Automatically.
Where do I /kneel to get it? Willing to pay in gems.

I’d defend longer periods of linking, since you can take more statistical data (and I sincerely hope ANet does) about the individual worlds.

There’s the amount of core wvw players in a world who will always turn up no matter what (not always the same people but the approximate number) then there’s the people who bloat the world during interesting / easy matchups.

The times / time zones when these players appear and what they focus on doing (blobbing, hiding behind sieged walls, havoking).

With such data, ANet can find better links. And should really focus on balancing tiers before trying to make all links / tiers equal.

I think it would be more fun if havok guilds actually meet each other in their preferred timezones, same would go with medium-sized guilds, or even blobs.

Linking is a powerful tool and can be used for a lot of good. For example, balancing worlds within a tier with worlds with different coverages has great potential.

Relinking is necessary, because things often change and one server can simply grow / shrink too much and becomes unable to compete. It adds another balancing to tier system, which isn’t enough by far.

Also relinking is good, since it discourages t1 stacking (and it will happen around t1 only, since the links there have the greatest differences in population). If you’d wanted to keep stacking on BG for example, you’d have to pay 800 gems every 3 months to hop on the new linked world, leaving the old in the dust yet again (which is bad as well, actually, this time for ET).

It can also balance bad tiers (t1 NA), since you can link a more populated world with the t1 competition lagging behind (BG has around double YB’s score). On t1 there’s no way of balancing with tiers alone any further. Unless you want to make a BG tier and let them compete among themselves :P

The least fun things right now is Druid perma immob, then Warrior and Mesmer perma stun, and then thieves perma evade. It’s like kitten Anet, how about get your butt’s into WvW and play it. Then you’ll get a clue how to balance it.

Anet wonders why WvW population dwindles. It’s because combat isn’t as fun anymore!

A little BnS rant. I played it. The game itself is great (and Lyn are the best.) The cutscenes are so much greater than any in GW2 (excluding GW2’s cinematics that are as great.) But. Translation into English is horrible. The voiceover is garbageous. You practically have to mod your client with JP or KR voiceover version not to cry constantly (with several exceptions). Its incarnations of TP and gem exchange is prehistoric. The game is NOT for casuals, you have to keep evolving your equipment or no one will ever party with you.

So. I bought HoT. I did it for the elites. At first I felt forced into it, because PvP was being horrible, in WvW I had a disadvantage (and shield gens wouldn’t work for me.) I enjoyed the core, played living world season 2 to try it out before buying the rest of it, so I didn’t expect much more than that. When I first heard my character talk, I melted. ANet actually managed to surprise me (in a positive way.) Verdant Brink looks so great and radiates the junglish theme so well. Music’s also good (and I am the person who would want Soule’s music everywhere.)

All in all. If ANet didn’t touch PvP (in terms of power creepness,) all would have been well for me. So what I meant to say is that BnS will probably implode in EU&NA some time soon, since it is a flunked localization and that I still retained my adoration for GW2 despite and at the same time because of HoT.

If you consider shield generators, unreachable spot, and invulnerable operators, it clearly becomes impossible to deal with.

Although I agree with some way to be able to deal with opponents holing up in your gari and N towers, like inability to fortify those objectives for hostiles and harsher siege limit.

I agree. Ctrl+C is there for different reasons. There should be an option in the menu to make [your squad / any] cmdr’s tag larger and brighter.

Consider what kind of WvW mode you want to play.

Casual / solo : Focus your WvW traits on guard defense and offense, solo flip camps / shrines / sentries, scout, sentry. Class: Any class

Havoc : Find a guild / group of friends (3~8) to run around a map and flip objectives (camps / towers) and fight small enemy groups. Get cata / ram / supply WvW traits. Class: Ele / Guard

Guild : Find a guild in your time zone. Get siege def / ops WvW traits. Run with them every day to learn where to place siege, what to do against enemy groups / siege. You can flip keeps. Class: Staff Ele / Staff-GSword Guard

Zerg : Find a pugmander. Stay on tag. Class: Any class

1. How do you feel overall about reward tracks?
Finally something to reward players for participating in WvW.

2. What are your thoughts on the rate at which you gain participation?
It’s somewhat fast, but considering they can fall quickly too, it’s fine.

EDIT: It’s erratic, however. Roamers get it up quickly, while defenders in a siege don’t get it at all (provided both sides are tossing stones at each other over the walls.) It motivates random people to try and cap, though, which is good.

3. How do you feel about the rate you earn reward track points?
Seems a bit too slow, as in uneventful, bland.

EDIT: I can’t tell if it’s as fast as in PvP, WvW has a different dynamic. But the time between the ticks feels “empty”, so perhaps it should have ticks more often (once per 1/3 time at 1/3 weight.)

4. Overall, what are your impressions about the types of reward tracks we have?
WvW should have more of its own unique reward tracks (majority actually) not the PvP tracks copypasta (except for the armor) as it is now.

5. Are there any other reward tracks you would really like to see?
Definitely materials for pure WvW guilds to be able to level their guilds up to actually be of any use in WvW.

EDIT: Let’s see…
-Random limited finisher track with some exclusive permanent one at the end.
-Scribe mats, guild upgrade mats, guild banners, guild/superior siege repeatable track (can be more than one track.)
-WvW lords / NPCs (guards, yaks) minis.
-WvW food (trays) / mats / recipes / boosters.
-Weapon / armor / backpack (even exclusive legendaries.)

Please keep in mind that the only people who wanted this are the people in TC. I’m mainly talking about the roughly 200 (literally, and that’s a low guess) players who transferred there and the others can’t be held accountable. Just because one person is unapologetic to their enemy doesn’t mean they should be forced to play under stressful, constantly outnumbered fights like DB and FA are.

You’re right, of course. I apologize.

Like I said, the only people who wanted this are the kittenter alliance: TW, OnS, CERN, GS and at least 3 other 25+ player guilds.

But I don’t agree with this part.

Of course. If you don’t water your plants, they die. What I tried to say that by the time the issues are fixed it would have been too late. For example, people won’t be mass-grinding the new PvE maps anymore, taking way more time to get to the new content.

About giving in… I personally think it was a misstep to raise the power-level with the new classes, making GW2 into P2W (stepping away from the original model) to a certain (still limited compared to others) extent. But that might not be the same issue the majority of players might have with and the same issue ANet will be addressing. So I might just be waiting forever.

I’m on TC, and have been away from the game mode for a long long time. With the new action picking up in the BLs, I decided to log in and start playing again. But something really got to me. TC is being double teamed constantly to the point where it’s not fair. Enemy blobs ignore each other, and hyper focus us. When we go for Towers, one side of the opposition actually helps to defend the other team’s stuff.

This brings me to the obvious question, is it against the ToS to coordinate attacks on a single server? We have former TC guilds keeping players on TC so they can follow our Commanders. I’ve even heard of complaints that former TC guilds are going around and wasting supply.

In my opinion it’s okay to double-team, basically because it’s why WvW was 3-server FFA. If you can coordinate the efforts, then it’s actually pretty great. Sure it can suck if you’re the one getting double-teamed but you can feel even greater if you actually prevail.

Double teaming is not fair play in my opinion. But regardless if it is allowed or not, I do not understand, why these guild alliances can come to a server and take over (not for the first time).
What is the point in playing a game, if in the middle of it, you change sides. Imagine that in footfall.
And let me ask you this: why would guilds from TA move one spot lower to DB with the argument, that they want to prevent TA from getting to T1.

I think in football it would be comparable to the end of the season where players change teams (except it’s way more undefined in WvW.)

There’s no investment you make in a server except the transfer gem fee and you’re not making that investment towards a specific server. Once a week is over, it’s fresh start (there’s just glick0, but that doesn’t reward you in any way.) As long as this continues (reinforced by Megaservers who erased some of the server identity that was there – say, during Marionette fight?) there won’t be any reason to stay on a server if it starts crumbling.

TC disagreed on how the “newcomer” guilds should be treated and it created a schism, so some guilds moved to the same tier to resist the tier change of TC.

You really need to read up on the politics behind this its been all over the forum for the last few days. TC deserves everything they are getting and more.

No I read Panda’s post. That’s what made me want to play again. But dang, them fights are rough. TC zergs are holding our own in the 2 v 1, but it’s impossible to sustain. We’re in EBG, then hear the Desert BL Keep is being ganked, then once we leave to defend, we lose both Towers around EBG Keep. We return to see enemy players /laughing at us. It’s disheartening.

Worth Getting HoT for PvP?

Its more like a requirement than a choice. Unlike gw1 you can’t be competitive in pvp without the xpac. The core specializations pale in comparison to the elite ones introduced in hots. So much that you are always forced to take elite specs.

In essence, Aza is right. However, you can put some pressure on ArenaNet by not buying HoT until most of the issues (especially about class balance) are solved. Then answering your questions will be easier as well.

You’re right, but it will be mostly your own loss and there’s no guarantee ANet will give in.
