The infomation you got this from is completely wrong
Unreliable
and not enough evidanceThey are 1st month graphs… What is “wrong unreliable”? The evidence is the two graphs….
GW2 10
SWTOR 9
Now you have more evidence. I just made those two numbers below. Your sample size is one because I said it, but its still evidence, so therefore its valid.
I hear numerous people say they WvW less, or not at all because of repair costs.
A lot of people have complained to me that they have a hard time locating the commander icon on the map because of its small size and light color. Is it possible to make it two different contrasting colors, so as to create some form of strong visual distinction of its place on the map?
I was thinking perhaps something like a blinking smiley face, or a purple and yellow circle that had a spinning animation inside of the middle of it?
Thank you for your time.
You can bet ANet will go after botting and gold farmers relentlessly, as those are the people who are selling gold to players for less than what ANet charges, so it’s a very definite hit to the bottom line.
ANet is a gold seller themselves, but at least that money goes back into the game we love.
I think Anets pricing on gems is KITTEN KITTEN KITTEN, and KITTEN KITTEN my KITTEN. So.. a one use set of gear for visual looks is worth… $[insert inflated actual cost here] If they got their pricing and product availability in check it wouldnt be such a joke.
Or give the people who paid 100g a refund.
Don’t confuse reality with a video game. Take political agendas elsewhere. If your guild has to expend money and resources for its members, then the funding needs to come from internal sources.
ie., if the commanders in your guild drop the majority of the siege during WvW guild raids, to simplify efforts, taxes are great proposal.
Since I dont PVE, I dont know how or if it makes any sense to use taxes. Like so many have already said- it could be an off/on option of guild, and if you didnt like it, you could find a new guild.
/petition signed – fully agree.

Planetside 2 is very polished, and they didn’t wait until 6 months after retail release to do it either.
No., probably start playing PS2 beta more. Tired of seeing people cheating on a MW/Mw2/Mw3 level. Its obnoxious.
So for clarification, are we not allowed to post screenshots or link videos in the forums when we find people hacking?
The “man this sux” is the instant buyer remorse of Commander Tome purchase.
I forgot to add- when i am making reference to population sizes, I am referring to the population of players from your own server. The only caveat I must add – if your server is being facerolled really hard- your homeland might have a low population, and that would change my population statements above.
Population sizes and queue times.
1. EB – highest population.
2. your home borderland – second highest population.
3. Opponent A- highest scoring borderland – 3rd highest population
4. Opponent B- second highest or lowest scoring borderland – 4th highest population
Take your friends into whichever borderland is more likely to fit the number of players you are trying to group. If its only 5 people, you can typically go anywhere other than EB. If its more than 5 players, choose option 3 or 4.
In my personal opinion, don’t be akitten and hit maps based on what fight is there. Just go where you can play with your friends together, at the same time. You will have more fun, than having friends trickle in over 2 hours.
I think its appropriate to have, but should have its “costs” reviewed. It should be lowered. As it stands, it certainly doesn’t encourage melee players to participate in skirmishes.
I have had some people send me private messages with extremely strong ’anti-tax" sentiments. I fully get why some people would be opposed. However, I am talking about WvW guilds, with repeat and constant siege expenditures.
I think peoples anti-tax opinions are very important. I want to make a list of each person who opposes, so the next raid night our guild does- i can let them pay 5-10gold for the nightly activities, instead of me personally as the GM.
Maybe that will help give some people a little perspective.
add “last logged in” column and this post is perfect.
Why do I personally like the PVE elements?
1. I love the fact that there are jumping puzzles in World v. World. Jumping puzzles should be challenging, and having to pvp in the middle of one should be exhilarating. That’s why people go crazy when they get killed, and immediately run to the forums crying. “Griefing…” Seriously… its a pvp game. Its called pvp. Its only called griefing to those who are looking for the pez dispenser, and while reaching for it they drop their pacifier and go into a fit. Same with setting up siege outside of spawn. There are three ways out of spawn.. why are you spoon feeding your opponent kills at one exit. Thats not griefing, its called your own stupidity in your choice of routes if you don’t play WvW with the expectation of pvp.
2. Weather nodes: OMG, this is so money, and so many people don’t even realize it. I am not going to explain it, because I rather the uninformed stayed that way.
3. Sentries: fantastic, same with all NPC camps and their relation to how they impact supply. All clever, don’t even touch.
4. Centaurs, wild life, mining, gathering, general npc mobs: I already covered the simple fact that I would rather level my character, with the chance of being in PVP, than go in the regular PVE world. To me the entire PVE world of the game is for huge KITTENS and RPr’s. But I feel it necessary to explain it further to those who don’t full grasp it.
A. If you take a level 80 and go play with friends in a level 20 zone, the items/loot dont scale. Yes if I was 79, I could go get experience with a friend.. but that clearly doesnt make any logical sense. When you are level 75 you can play with a level 1 friend killing centaurs- and all loot, gold, exp, kharma are scaled accordingly. Its 100% win win for both guys. Move forward.
B. If you like to play with one friend because everything is balanced out.. what happens if you have 10 good friends, well you might all end up there. Guess what happens then? The TTK (Time to kill) shoots up, and now all of a sudden you have an extremely efficient area to play with your friends in term of level and etc.
C. Last but not least, people paid for the game, same as everyone else. If they want to go juggle a bag of KITTENS in the corner, whose business is it to everyone else? If I want to go build 35 trebs and then claim a hill and call it Altamont Pass, who are you to say you don’t approve of what I do?
There are two sides to the PVE in WvW argument, but those who are against it refuse to understand who is on the other side. And ironically, those who are against PVE in WvW think its because they are hardcore and they want more focus on the actual score and what they perceive as the battle itself.
I am here today to play the devils advocate for those who are in favor of the PVE elements in World v. World.
I will be the voice, of those who have none.
Misconceptions:
M1. WvW players who want PVE, dont want to PVP in WvW.
Please remember, I don’t speak for everyone. I am speaking for myself, and maybe a few others.
A1. Nothing could be further from the truth. Unlike the “complainers” who blame the failure of their server on “jumping puzzles, centaurs, and Kraits” I come from a purely PVP background. I don’t come from the hand holding version of PVP. The one where you have “uncontested zones, town guards, and sanctuaries.” On the contrary, I fully believe that while I am leveling, I should be encountering enemy players for skirmishes. Whether its in space while I am transporting ore, or in a mythical forest while I am looking for a pile of gold in a hidden dungeon. I personally believe that the MMO genre has purposely removed this sense of “consequence” and “element” of danger from the majority of games at the cries of consumers. And when you look at those tears, its because people don’t know who to blame so they say come in and nerf everything until everything becomes a spoon fed candymachine (pez dispenser) of epics and rewards. So in a nuttshell, I’d much rather level my character in an environment that also has pvp. And that doesnt always mean sitting on a ballista staring at the same bridge every night pushing #2.
2. Removal of the PVE element in WvW will help those servers who are presently sucking to increase their scores/ranking after this element has been removed.
A2. Same ol stuff, the minute your server is losing in a match, the tears go straight to 1.) Blame anyone typing in team chat 2.) blame anyone with a blue icon 3.) blame anyone on map who is doing something that isn’t what you are doing aka jumping puzzles and centaurs 4.) Blame Obama 5.) Blame Bush
3. PVE elements- mobs/npcs, are what causes the lag in WvW
A3. Incorrect. Its the textures, detail, and quantity of players (server math) being done in one area. The fact that the DOlyak has 3 npc escorts has nothing to do with the 80 players who converged near him.
4. That because its a World v World zone, that it means its designed solely for a specific type of pvp that “said” complainer feels is the appropriate type of pvp.
A4. Nothing could be further from the truth. The jumping puzzles, Centaurs, Kraits, events, sentries, and the like are all specifically placed into WvW so that when 1-5 people want to do something without being part of “the zerg” it doesnt eliminate them from partaking in the game. It was the designers specific intent to not penalize people for not having large guilds or large groups that they are forced to play with.
That would be great, I could spend less time on Guru, and more here
1. Full- is designated by ANET. It was also Full day 1. So by that logic you think that it has the same number of active players today that it did on day1?
The server status of FULL is severely misunderstood by many people. I’d go further, but I am not sure how it would be worth my time.
2. Take a server that presently has a low pop. That doesn’t mean every single person is going to take the time to go figure out how to server transfer. By that same logic, it would be my own fault for not spending $25 in WoW to transfer to a more populated server, vs. just quitting WoW to play a game with more active players around. Maybe a group of players.. say a guild of 200 who are on a server with a low pop… Maybe the mass organization of an entire server transfer initiated by themselves doesn’t seem very ideal. Maybe they already view that they have made some kind of commitment into the leveling of the guild (via influence), that they don’t feel that they should have to recreate. Whether paid or free, you completely missed the community portion of what i proposed is an “assumption.”
3. Seriously? That’s your logic?
4. See 1, which you don’t get.
5. Opinion is the biggest part of why. Clearly, by my post, I was taking the time to cite a correlation between population balancing and its impact on the community. That’s why the thread doesn’t compare game mechanics or other features.
Here is why I agree with taxes.
1. I think “donations” are the correct way to handle raising money
2. However, even though I think donations are best, I think that when someone donates, they should be directly thanked for their contribution. If you have ever worked with a campaign party, you would understand that it is appropriate etiquette to thank people for contributions. This game does not have a mass mailing, or efficient way to communicate within a large guild. As such, it is not an efficient use of time to look through the bank log history and manually contact each donator with a thank you email. We tried to maintain a forum post on our website that we updated weekly with thanks to those who contributed. In the end, the time investment was atrocious. Taxes removes all of this, and lets the rest of us that manage the guild actually get to play some.
3. While I think that all people are good on the inside, not all people are overly mature or very well developed, socially. While on the battlefield, the masses are expecting to see their leaders and managers organizing placement of numerous siege equipment, however, they are not expecting dialogue for each machines placement with an explanation of what funds procured the aforementioned. If you just blanket taxes, it removes all of the dialogue and simply drops the foundation for contribution into play. It removes so much hassle from management. I would rather debate once/wk the need for taxes, than to attempt to politely thank contributors on a never ending basis.
Please add a column that shows “last logged in.”
Our guild has had 475-500 members since the second day of launch, and we have gone from 150-200 online during primetime to 50-85 online. Character level is never indicator, because people logout on alts often times.
Thanks for your consideration.
Title pretty much sums it up. I personally felt like the biggest fail of SWTOR was that they waited 6 months to long to realize that dwindling server population size has an impact on those who remain.
I make the following assumptions:
1. The dramatic decline of population that I see in WvW is indicative of general server population. My server has basically had ZERO WvW queue, or 1-5 minute queue.
2. The games success is directly attributed to the community and the experiences players have within their community.
3. The lack of community, from declining populace, reduces that experience and makes the game less enjoyable.
4. Failure to address server populations will result in a similar mass exodus that SWTOR suffered.
Examples:
1. Our guild went from having 150-225 online during primetime, to 50-75.
2. WvW queue times, have gone from “something” to “nothing”
3. Most world areas (PVE) are relatively vacant.
4. CD is supposedly one of the full servers, but its already seeing decline. What does this mean for other servers who have a lower stated population?
Suggestion
1. Bite the bullet and combine some servers, specifically ones that have differing primetime schedules. The WvW population for US servers in the 11pm(PST)-11am(PST) window is terrible.
2. Combining differing prime-time schedule will fill in the BIGGEST vacancy spots, and the spillover people in other hours will help to fill out some of the lesser periods.
For crystal desert server- at least If the exp was there, it would promote an increase in population for us. Farmed/exploited or not.
Double the cost of siege equipment
Triple the health of dolyak
Make the reward for dolyak only honor badges honor badges, since the armor gear is expensive as hell.
So I was strolling along on my merry way, and then i got a message on my screen that said my account had been blocked. Considering how buggy things have been, figured its 50/50 if i can log back in. Then at login, I was given an error screen that said my account may have been accessed by an unauthorized individual. And the message goes on to say that my account is suspended until the matter can be resolved.. So what do i do now? The “contact support and one of our representatives will assist you” seems to be some kind of joke, judging by what I am reading in the support forums.
Please let me know.
I think the maps could still support another 20-30 players per side. And I dont say that as a problem solver for Eternal, I say that because I purposely play with friends on whatever server we think we can get the most people on. And I think if they bumped the cap up a tad, it would be more accommodating to guilds who play together.
They’d have to get culling under control first. The maps cannot even support the amount of people they have on them now due to invisible armies clashing both in the open and keep fights. Why even have classes that can stealth when the game itself stealths entire armies with permanent invisibility.
I’d rather have MUCH less siege equipment, less NPCs, less keep guards and less character detail if more people would be loaded so you could make tactical decisions instead of, “Hey look 5 people are guarding a supply camp..wait how did 5 people turn into 35?”
It has actually been a bit since I have seen that happen. I really hate to lose a lot of what makes WvW still feel like an open world environment, so that more can fit though. I hear what ur saying though, I 5 boxed for years with all accounts on low settings so that the game performed better. high settings are nice, but its not that big of a deal to me.
Ive tried everything, and cant get away from Staff. It suits my playstyle, and the spells that come with it our perfect for how i play. The problem is damage. I watched a friend twitch feed of his guardian, in a dps build, all I saw was numbers that were twice mine.. nonstop. I am not a huge fan of hybrid melee, I made a pally in WoW, but always preferred the playstyle and abilities of the warrior.
So.. I then rerolled warrior. The dmg out is quite honestly twice my ele. In spvp I find 2 hnd ownage, in WvW I have to go sword and board for survivability.

Its a shame, the entire playstyle of the class is extremely engaging and exciting, its just unfortunate that some people I have to hope will die from boredom when I attack them.
A+, Thanks for the contribution to the community.
I run around naked, I don’t know my stats offhand. I have a blast.

The go to statement.. They started losing and their WvW guilds transferred.
haahhaahh
Blaming orbs is like saying dominating servers are done solely from the organizations of the guilds on those servers..
hate to burst some ego bubbles, its most population based. Argue all you want, ask ANET to release pop stats from the borderland battles of each server.
Lots of people= tug o’war, less people=steamroll.
Same chit different day.
You might want to brush up on the defintion of “Asia” and the military history of the region. There have been numerous land wars fought there. Including by countries like the US.
(By the way, the primary problem isn’t one of indigenous numbers, but logistics, at least where the US is concerned. Apparently, as a nation we don’t like guarding our dolyaks)
I’m not dismissing numerical superiority. I’m dismissing the knee-jerk reaction to anything that’s beating you: “NERF IT!”.
How about, for a nice change of pace, we ask people to put in some effort to turn the tide in their favor since the problem is one of player organization, not game mechanics, rather than demanding a game mechanic fix for something that isn’t a game mechanic problem?
Just this once? Pretty please?
Just one time, let’s not insist that every problem be solved by demanding the developers reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator.
I concur. Every game that I have ever played, was its funnest, until Devs said something was wrong and needed to be changed.
I’ve sat and watched, with great entertainment, as a thief disappeared over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over – while killing 3 trebuchets, a ballista, and an arrowcart. I found a very high level of humor watching people aoe and run around chasing him. WIthout a doubt the best thief I have ever seen, and the one and only time I have ever seen a good thief. Noting: his death only came from falling off cliff.
Our guild typically takes 10-15 players and camps north supply on opposing homeworlds all the time. Line up the ballista’s, and get spoon fed kills for hours.
I want to address some of points OP made.
1. WvW: You make reference to the flip flop.
A. Thats what differs current day games from games that came out 10 years ago. 10 years ago you grinded your butt off, then had epic battles for hours and days, got something, held it for a while to savor its taste, then entered conflict again. There realistically needs to be timers put in to each structure to prevent the fast hand swapping flip flop. The supply camp seems to be the only real timer based thing where you cant just immediately do it. And by immediate, i dont mean zero seconds. Each structure in the game should have some form of legitimate and relevant cooldown. Thats the thought of hardcore players. For everyone else, they just want to continually zerg around and destroy stuff like they are in a FPS game. Thats the evolution of the genre. Customer Service and accounting have demised that the way to satisfy the largest customer base is to give everything to everyone, Obama.
B. An awesome related example. Planetside 1 – yes.. I went there. Capping a base was an endeavor, and for years – bases and towers werent 5 min flip flops of possession. You had epic battles, and it felt like you got something done when you won. Along comes Planetside 2. The devs, in all their wisdom, think that to get a larger playerbase, need to design the game more akin to the traditional FPS market. That means basically turning your game into a gigantic COD/Bf3 map. Structure capture starts to lose its meaning, and the complaints there are identical to what we are seeing here.
2. OP Gear and Armor assessment: I run around naked mostly. I really don’t care about gear. Thats a young mans game, I’d rather focus on having fun in WvW, let the young bucks spend countless hours on their pixelated validations of their time. I got really nice breasts, and I am letting everyone see.
I think “the town guard” and removal of “civilian HK/DK” was the beginning of the end. Stop putting sanctuary zones, and guards in pvp environments. Make this stuff interestingkitten

I would like to note, I am assuming the devs had a list a mile long of things that they wanted to add to game, but time constraints and being pressed to release the game became a priority. I think all of the “MMO common sense” changes are on the horizon. I am so impressed with the evolution of the WvW that I can overlook all of the trivial stuff that is known as MMO 101.
Everytime I find something slightly annoying, I think back to the faceplant of AOC siege, and thank God I am not throwing another game into the garbage can.
There are only 2 spots in the game that trebuchet placement is a little obnoxious – hoomeworld citadel on south cliff. Where ranged AOE from below is virtually impossible to hit, and equally displaced – using a ball there, you cant target the treb, and the ball just hits the rock.
I think this is probably the only treb placement spot on map thats an actual bear to deal with. All other placements provide a challenge, and are appreciated.
(edited by Moderator)
Simple solution:
Dont use rams if they are lameing with cata’s… build your own catas/trebs.. gg
Exactly, while the game isn’t trying to be identical to medieval times, whats wrong with using trebuchets and starving places of supplies…
Thats the “ambience” you are supposed to be looking for. I am happy everytime I see a very well placed piece of siege machinery. Towers and keeps shouldn’t be flipping ownership every 10 minutes.
In the grand scheme of WvW, no gear doesn’t matter at all. I often times run around mostly naked with only items that cant be seen. I run into opponents, drop hammer, run out, heal, run back in – rinse & repeat. Clearly, there are many things affected by having no gear or some gear- does wearing it make any difference in my personal keystroking? Absolutely not.

This is my response to OP:
http://www.merciless-guild.com/1/wvw.jpg
Merciless is presently recruiting players level 50+ for WvW raiding. We prefer players who have had a chance to explore their class skills, and have an idea what class they like for World v. World.
1. Our guild currently has 425+ players
2. We use a 200 slot ventrilo server (Vent mandatory), and often times try to get as many people as we can from whatever zone, on vent with us at the same time.
3. Our website is merciless-guild.com
4. The core of our officers and long time members are all mature adults. We are not looking for people with nothing but **** and **** jokes. We are looking for players who can contribute, and in return share the spoils.
5. Representing is not an option, its mandatory. If you think this is a subject for debate, then you would not fit in well with our guild.
6. The golden rule, is that it must be fun. We will not have activities that are not enjoyable for all members. We have a very large diversity of players in our guild, and we strive to strike a balance that brings everyone together for a laughing good fun time.
Feel free to stop by sometime if you are interested
I am a member of Merciles [Merc], a guild on Crystal Desert that generally has 425+ players. Our guild raids WvW every Friday, and I stream that, as well as streaming the shenanigans every other night of the week.
I have Wells Card, Cap 1, and Paypal. Only my Cap 1 card works for making payment. Paypal takes me to login page, I login, then I hit continue and it redirects me back to GW2 website – where it then fails. My Wells card simply fails. Wells says no charge even hits my account or pending or queries.
