Hello Senuma! Though we also have a PvP and WvW team, The Phoenix Effect [RISE] has quite a large PvE presence, including achievement runs! Our home server is Tarnished Coast, though we accept anyone from any server. We are a relatively new guild – established in late March of this year – but we have recently reached over 100 members, and still maintain a friendly, close atmosphere. We hold frequent parties, contests and giveaways, and have at least one event scheduled every day. As mentioned, we are a very friendly bunch, and have many players eager to help others earn achievements, run dungeons and explore Tyria.
We run our event times on EST, though there are normally people on at all hours of the day. Our Teamspeak3 server is also very active, though by no means is anyone required to use it. We do not require 100% rep, feeling that GW2 gave us the ability to join more than one guild for a reason. As a community our main goals are respect of everyone from all walks of life; bigotry and disrespect of any kind are not welcome. We want to maintain a safe, friendly and positive environment for everyone.
If you are interested in joining us, please check out our website:

We would love to have you! <3
This thread just reads to me as ‘I am bad at this game and do not want to improve, thus these changes upset me.’
People who keep saying this just don’t get it. GW is an MMO, not a first person shooter.
No matter how good you are, you don’t do it alone. I AM advanced (legendary, ascended gear, etc) and know exactly what to do but I cannot do it by myself.
As others have put it, all the knowledge, experience and gear is for nothing. A Teq win has become luck.
Luck that you got put in a map with the right people.
Luck that they don’t quit after 2 minutes. These are issues beyond out control. Improving your gear or skills does nothing to solve this problem.
Half of the reason why there is ‘luck’ involved is because there are so many players that do not want to put any effort into learning combat mechanics. If more people put in even minimal effort to learn them, then it wouldn’t be so difficult to find an organized map with people who understand what to do. As others said, gear has little to do with experience or knowledge of how the game works. It just means you’ve put the time into outfitting yourself. Decent gear means nothing if you don’t know how to play.
So yes, improving your skills certainly does help out with challenging open world content, if only everyone put effort into it. Like it or not, there are a lot of players – many of whom make complaints like this, about content being too difficult – that just don’t want to learn. They want max rewards for minimal effort.
i have chochobo but i’d settle for at least 30 dollars. i know it’s a late thread but…. maaaan…. i like gw2 but i can’t afford to pay 50 bucks for each expansion :T and i don’t want to wait like… 3 years to get the expansion for 10 dollars…. you know?
This sounds more like a personal problem to me… ? I can’t afford $50 atm either, which is why I’m putting some money aside each paycheck until I can. I know sudden things come up and saving money for frivolous things can be difficult, but just because you can’t personally afford something doesn’t mean the price should be changed. That’s like going into a store and saying ‘I can’t afford this. Change it for me.’ You don’t do that. If you can’t afford something, you either don’t buy it at all or save until you can. Welcome to adulthood.
HOT would be $50 regardless, so yes, I suppose technically you will have paid $100 total, though that’s over the course of three years if you’ve been playing since launch – not all at once (barring the purchase of the deluxe version.) Though I think $50 is a bit steep for what we’ve seen of HOT so far, what would you propose veteran players get? A discount on the expansion? I honestly don’t have a problem with new players getting the base game bundled, since ANet has replaced the base game on the purchase page with GW2 + HOT. That’s what the new ‘base game’ is.
Idk, purchase it or not, other than getting a discount on the expansion for veteran players (which I disagree with,) there’s not really much to change. The decision lies with you.
Personally I’m quite excited for kickstarting PvP! I am counting on you, Nighthawk. NO PRESSURE.
This thread just reads to me as ‘I am bad at this game and do not want to improve, thus these changes upset me.’ Knowing the simple basics of combat in this game does not require you to be a hardcore gamer. If you are too lazy to learn, that’s not really anyone’s problem but your own. I mean, you certainly don’t have to learn; no one is forcing you. Just don’t complain that content is too difficult if you’re not willing to at least try. Not everything can – or should – be succeeded just by stacking and pressing one.
Everyone in this guild has great…
senses of humor! 10/10 would highly recommend. Delicious, juicy senses of humor.
Had a bunch of fun doing Guild Bounties tonight! Soon we’ll have ones with commendations.
Leaving a few of my old guilds seemed to fix the problem for me. Not just one, though; I had to leave two. How strange.
Still experiencing this wretched issue, and have been since March 16th. Super frustrating.
With this new patch, none of the ‘fixes’ that used to work (sometimes) to fix guild chat are functioning. This means the ‘invisible’ fix, stepping down from the guild, relogging, etc. On top of this super irritating April fools joke (past years were so much better QQ), I’m finding zero motivation to play this game today. I’d send a message to support, but it takes days for them to reply on average. Is there anything else I can do?
(edited by kettering.6823)
Unfortunately the invisible fix only works less than half the time for me now. Sometimes I get “you are not in a guild,” sometimes my guild mates can read my messages but I can’t read theirs; I’ve tried relogging, standing down and re-representing, but it seems like it’s completely random whether or not guild chat wants to work. Getting super frustrated with it.
Hello Chrysalis (and friends)! My friends and I recently opened our guild to public, and I think we – Contra The [meta] – might be a great fit for you. Though we’re small at the moment, we’re growing at a good pace, and have a roster of friendly, active and dedicated players. We mostly focus on PvE and PvP, but I know several of us would be more than happy to run WvW/EoTM with you if you wanted to. We’ve just unlocked Guild Bounties, so we have that to look forward to soon as well!
As a guild we try to prioritize community over all else, and we have an active TS3 to help promote that! There’s usually at least one person sitting around, unless it’s at a strange time of day. We have a strict no-tolerance policy for bigotry and strive to make the guild a comfortable place for everyone coming from all walks of life. However, we’re an easy-going bunch and love to joke around. Though not strictly an 18+ guild, currently all of our members are at or above that age.
If y’all are interested, please feel free to check out our website (http://contrathe.enjin.com), our thread in this forum (here! ), or message either myself (kettering.6823) or our guild leader (Diamondfries.2316) in game!

I am truly a delight when I haven’t gotten enough sleep.
Hello Alkalissa! Though our guild, Contra The [meta] isn’t specifically a ‘female’ guild, we have many female players including myself. We’re an absolute ‘no-bigotry’ zone, with a zero tolerance policy on homophobia, transphobia, racism, and other horrid behaviours. We’re located in Tarnished Coast and do not have a 100% rep requirement, though of course we would love it if you spent at least some of your time with us!
We’re a small guild at the moment, but we have many dedicated players that are on daily. I know myself and a few others keep late schedules, so if you’re in an OCE timezone then there will definitely be folks around to play with you! We’re focused on high-level PvE content with a good side of PvP (right now especially, due to the buff,) but our main goal is community and friendship. We use TS3 for playing, where we love to goof off and generally have a good time. At the moment we’re working on getting Guild Bounties up and running, too.
If you’re interested in joining us (and we’d love to have you!), feel free to send me (or our guild leader Diamondfries.2316) a message in game. ^_^ I hope you find what you’re looking for!
Welcome to our newest lovely member Saria!
Do y’all happen to have a Guild Website? If not, I’m still quite interested, but I always love checking those out if they exist.
I’ll take a look! Do you happen to have a guild website?
GREETINGS FELLOW GAMERS. I come looking for a certain guild!
- I’m located in TC and have no real plans of changing servers. However, I’m okay with joining a guild in another server if you are.
- Though I’m not new to role-playing by any means, I am new to role-playing in-game. I mostly role-play paragraph style via forums and e-mail, and have for over ten years! I’ve ‘watched’ plenty of users role-play in-game in the past, but it’s not something I’ve ever really had experience with outside of little jokes with friends now and again. Though I am a very quick learner, it’s best mentioned that I am a bit of a newbie in this regard.
- I am not interested in 100% rep guilds.
- LGBT friendly would be a bonus. Myself, as well as most of my characters, fall in the spectrum.
- Guild doesn’t need to have a complete focus on role-playing! In fact, I would prefer it that way. This falls under ‘no 100% rep policies,’ as if the guild I join is strictly a role-playing guild, I’d like to be able to rep my other guild for PvE, WvW and PvP content.
- Themes can be generic or specific. I have characters of all classes and races coming from all walks of life. However, most of my characters are Sylvari!
- On top of everything else, I am seeking a guild with a mature community. I don’t mean this in the ~ERP~ sense, but in dynamic and spirit.
(edited by kettering.6823)
Preferably one where it is also not a complete sausage fest!
I find it hard to fit in comfortably with really big guilds, so I’m looking for one that isn’t massive. Doesn’t need to be strictly LGBT focused, but friendly, is all I’m asking. RPers or general creative types are a bonus. I’m also not looking for a guild that requires 100% rep time, since I have a small guild that I use to occasionally chat with friends. Otherwise I’m not very picky. :-D
I am from TC, but so long as your guild accepts cross-server members, the server doesn’t matter too much to me. I just like friendly, courteous people that like to do dungeons and fractals and have general silly fun times.
Thanks a bunch!
This has only been happening recently, as in the past 2 weeks or so. I couldn’t pinpoint what it was causing the freeze before, but I’m starting to believe that it’s GW2. This isn’t just the game freezing, unfortunately; it’s my entire computer. I can’t alt-tab or ctrl-alt-delete to get to my task manager. The only option is manually powering it off.
I’ve checked the event viewer, and there is nothing before my computer freezes, just ‘errors’ after I had to manually reset it. I have a Nvidia GeForce 780, and I have tried both the most recent drivers and older drivers, neither of which seemed to have any impact on the freezing.
It tends to just happen randomly as well… I haven’t been doing anything in particular when it freezes. However, one thing that has been consistent is that Teamspeak has been open as I play. I’m not sure if that could have something to do with it.
Other than that, I haven’t really changed anything on my computer in the past month or so…. so I’m just not sure.
Man, I’m what people would probably call a ‘casual’ player, but even I expect – and WANT – to work for my rewards. I hate the zerg. Hate it. I was so excited when I saw what was supposed to be coordinated, non-zerging content. Unfortunately, there are people that don’t actually want to play this game. Pressing one is playing the game for them. They complain when they have to actually do work. I do not understand this.
Guild Wars 2 is a ‘casual’ game, but not so casual that you should expect to do nothing and achieve spectacular rewards. That’s ludicrous.
Y’all are complaining about zerging and how it’s impossible to get silver or gold:
That’s because you are zerging. ArenaNet designed this in a way to discourage zergs. You cannot just go as one big blob from boss to boss, because of how they scale. You split up into groups. That’s how you get it done. It is not impossible.
I won’t say that I’m 100% pleased with this event, because I’m not… but people can’t see beyond the zerg and complain about it when it doesn’t work that way. Unfortunately, the players won’t change with the game. They just want to mash 1 and go ‘??? WHY I NOT GET REWARDS’ when their giant blob doesn’t pay off. Think for yourself once and a while. Play cooperatively.
That being said, I do think at least the trash mobs should give drops. Also kind of bummed out about the 1 AP per achievement thing. That makes zero sense to me.
I’m in a guild already, but as someone who suffers from social anxiety I just want to mention that I think this is a wonderful idea and I hope it can help some other folks out and feel safe and included. I wish you the best of luck!
I thought karka farming was like 4g/hour…
Depends on your MF/luck. I get about 2 shells per karka, which adds up quite fast. Including the blood that drops, you can net quite a bit of profit. It’s boring as hell though. I really can’t handle doing it for more than 30 mins at a time. I get about 4-6 gold for 30mins.
Might be an odd request, but most of my gaming companions/guild-mates are male, and I don’t have a lot of female friends irl or online. I’d just really like to meet other girls with similar interests, and I figured it would be a start to look on an MMO where I at least won’t be looked down upon for liking games, haha. My home server is Tarnished Coast, but so long as your guild is cross-server then I don’t mind at all. I’m not even sure if this sort of guild exists, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to look!
I mostly stick to PvE content but I also occasionally participate in WvW. I’m up for anything honestly, and I play often, so I’d be quite active. Even if your guild is not strictly “female-only,” but has a few other active female members, that would be fine with me. ^_^
“19:9:18:1617:101 " error to be exact
This only just started happening after I was forced to restart my client for tonight’s new patch, as I was traveling to Fireheart Rise to join my friends in CoF.
Clearly, I am already logged in, and my internet connection is fine. It just happens when I click ‘join my party’. I’m tried relogging, changing characters, disabling my anti-virus/firewall, and guesting onto other servers. Still get the error. Is this due to the new patch? :/ Either way I’m bummed because now I can’t join the rest of them in the dungeon.
Last night before the patch was released, I had 3/4 monthly categories completed. When I got up this morning and started salvaging, I was alerted to getting part of ‘monthly salvage kit uses’ …. and then when I looked at the top right I was at 1/4 monthlies.
The only one I still have completed is Event Completionist. What happened to champion killer? Unfortunately I can’t remember the third I had completed (kind of sad I know, but I got them just while running around), but it’s certainly not there anymore.
That’s pretty annoying.
Seriously, it’s simply bad design to reward failure. Why bother completing an invasion when you can just fail and farm champions all day?
sigh this game really is made for casuals.
Being a casual doesn’t mean being a person who exploits.
Indeed. Also, oh no, anything but casuals! Those filthy casuals, ruining our games!
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really like the way this event was executed. It bothers me that you get better rewards for failing than for succeeding. I definitely think that they should have tried another direction for this. However, pretty sure that has nothing to do with those awful ~casuals~ ruining everything for you.
“Get up, silly creature, I won’t let you die!” in such an emotional way. Definitely my favourite line. Also (when pet regens back alive):
“It’s not time for eternal sleep, get up”.
I just heard this one the other day, and genuinely almost teared up. She sounded so emotional. The way female Sylvari also scream ‘no! not my pet!’ when their pet gets downed in combat is also a pretty heavy line.
“Oh look at this, so pretty!” Has kind of lost meaning to me after the 100th Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Ticket. No, it is not pretty. No, it is not rare. Stop getting my hopes up. : (
“I am death incarnate” when entering death shroud for both genders sounds the best of all races, imo.
“I grow more lovely all the time” upon leveling up is also one of my favourites.
I think the new one looks nicer tbh. Much more polished.
I think another thing that bothers me is that you don’t get as much experience from doing dailies as you did with the old ones (at least I believe so, please correct me if I’m wrong.) I found dailies a pretty good way of getting experience on lower level characters, so this is a bit disappointing to me.
I don’t understand why they have to be kills. Why not just regular combos? I’m going to find this one super difficult to complete I think. : (
Yeah, this happens to me sometimes too, and only in that specific cave. It’s odd.
Vast majority of people left. All for different reasons. Some were probably going to leave soon regardless, but I’ll admit I’m surprised at the low pop. Really wish Anet would get their stuff together. GW1 was one of my favorite games. Right now the PvE content isn’t fun, (too difficult for the rewards). And the PvP is not balanced unless you play 3-4 of the current professions. The mods on the forums seem to delete half the constructive posts for no reason. Really sad attempt at an MMO from an experienced company. I just think they tried to do too much too fast…..and unfortunately since this isn’t a subscription based MMO, they already have their money and can drop it whenever they feel like it.
Where are you guys getting your numbers and information from? People are saying ‘there are only a few thousand players left’ and ‘most people quit’. I just don’t see this as true at all. I play on TC and see a lot of people everywhere. There are also a butt ton of people doing dungeons.
oh my god yes
and a real life Foostivoo. I would be ecstatic.
Play it if you want to. I play it because I enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy it, why bother playing? I do think these forums tend to over-exaggerate the negative points of the game, but really all it comes down to is: do you want to play? Then play! Don’t pay attention to what anyone else says. Maybe try joining a different server if you like PvE (I recently switched to Tarnished Coast from Blackgate and love it. What a difference that has made in the experience for me!)
~41g. I have no idea how people can have absurd amounts of gold without like, gem laundering or something. :x Unless you have crazy stupid luck like a friend of mine, who got two super rare minis after only gambling four times. What a weenie.
All servers are pretty heavily invested in WvW buddy. Im on SBI which was #1 WvW server for about the first three months…now its slipping quite a bit. Either way, my PVE experience has never dwindled.
All right, let me rephrase. Regardless of WvW investment, I have heard that there are servers out there that still have an active PvE community. Mine doesn’t. That’s why I’m asking.
(edited by kettering.6823)
I’m currently on Blackgate and have been since headstart. From what I gather, it’s mostly a WvW oriented server… and I don’t really play WvW. The bonuses are nice, but quite frankly I’m getting really tired of going to any area that isn’t Queensdale (or sometimes Harathi Hinterlands) and having all of the waypoints contested, and none of the events completed. : ( It gets pretty lonely.
I’ve seen people say that it’s a server thing, and that ‘their server is pretty active’ … but I’ve never seen anyone actually mention said server. I’m just thinking it’s time for a server change.
I hate jumping puzzles. They are the worst thing ever to me. They make me want to slam my face against my keyboard.
… so I don’t do them. They’re completely optional, and as far as I can gather, the reward from this year’s isn’t all that substantial anyway. If you want the title achievement, there are plenty of other achievements you can get to contribute towards it.
Don’t worry about it too much. If you hate them like I do, just don’t do them.
I’m really confused by the fact that some of you are acting as if “the prudes” are making it so there is no skimpy armor. Last I checked, aren’t most of the armor samplings in this game “skimpy”, at least as far as light armor goes… ? There’s cabalist armor, ok… maybe some of the dungeon armor, like SE and CoF… but I think you’re getting ahead of yourself fretting that there is no skimpy armor here, because there is quite a bit.
What makes me roll my eyes is seeing the difference in male and female armors in some particular sets, where the female will be wearing virtually nothing, but the male is almost entirely clothed. That’s just silly. If you’re going to have skimpy armor, at least make it similar for both genders.
I recently rolled a necro and I’m enjoying her quite a bit, but I’m wondering what the best life steal/dagger-dagger build is… or if I should really be going dagger/dagger at all. Unfortunately I absolutely cannot stand the sound the staff makes, and I don’t want to turn all my sound off just for that. What traits should I be focusing in? Equipment/runes/etc?
I will mostly be doing dungeons and PvE content.
Any advice?
(edited by kettering.6823)
Finally (almost) done. I’d love to get the gloves from Arah to complete her armor, but unfortunately I’m not sure I have it in me to grind it, haha.
Anyway, I’m very happy with her, she’s my baby
At the moment I’m mostly using my Mesmer for dungeons/PvE, though I’d like to start trying out WvW sometime soon. I also tend to play more ‘support-like’ I suppose, but PvE damage is great too!
My mesmer is my favourite character, and I’m just about done buying the armor (visually) that I want for her. However, I’m still not sure what runes would be good to buy.
I mainly use a glamour build – 20 power, 20 vitality, 30 illusions. I mainly use the staff with a GS for my second weapon. A lot of my damage comes from conditions, but idk if condition damage is really a ‘viable’ thing when it comes to runes. I was thinking of maybe Runes of the Undead, or even Runes of the Thief… clearly, I don’t know a lot about runes.
I also have a question about armor stats; what stats should I be going for? Right now I mostly have power, vitality and con. damage. Just wondering if that’s for the best.
Thanks!
It worked! _ I couldn’t be happier. Now my Mesmer finally has the right leggings on.
Thanks so much!
Yes you can, but you have to loose the exotic status, buy a NPC Armor, and just make the skin the one form Ta everything else has to be from the NPC armor.
The status are what make them account bound not the skin.
Sorry, I don’t quite understand what you’re saying. You mean I buy a white item from a merchant, and then transmute the TA skin onto it…? Wouldn’t that still be soulbound? I’m a bit confused.
Yes, it was a huge kitten on my part. I was so excited to finally have enough tokens after grinding that frustrating-as-hell dungeon to get the leggings I wanted for my mesmer that instead of logging off, I just bought them on my Guardian, thinking I could stick it in my bank for her.
Apparently, no. It’s soulbound, not account bound.
I also can’t transmute it onto a different, non soulbound piece of armor, because transmutation always results in a soulbound item. I could legitimately cry right now, I hate TA so much.
My question now is:
Am I forever stuck with a pair of light armor leggings I can never use or sell/salvage, or is there some way to get them over onto my Mesmer? Ugh.
