problem seem to be with the telia backbone. it sucks, dunno if anet can do much about it since i assume the connection has to do with ncsoft. but anet should really address this to whoever is in charge.

i thought about not buying the expansion because of the unreliablility, even if it is only for a couple of hours, it is terrible that telia is dropping 50% of the packet and it is a hit or miss as to whether u can connect or not.

right now you have player complaining certain class are dead or not viable for certain role by it in raid, world, pvp or wvw. the expansion can fix some of that, and it is also clear that anet has some idea about doing just that, but the feel is, anet appear to be taking away some of the uniqueness of the class just to give it new abilities. that defeat the purpose of having different classes. the balancing should be done in the specialization.

of course some are saying it is too premature to tell how it will go, but that is part of the reason why this is discuss now, because it hasn’t happened yet. gw2 died alot because of the mistake made in HOT launch, they address alot of it now but the damage is done. the point is, anet can’t afford another kitten up, this is literally the game’s “last chance”, it isn’t young anymore, it has already use “free to play” option to boost population, there is nothing else that can keep this game going other then to impress player at launch. it just the hard truth.

there are some good thing going for them, anet did learn alot from HOT and you can see there are some improvement to how they design the expansion, but is it enough? the fact is most of their content are going to be PVE and at least for the PVE, it feel better the HOT pre-launched. but really the only major input to wvw and pvp are going to be build options. this is why i choose it as a topic at this timing.

this is the direction to poke anet at and remind them where it matters. I prefer they prove me wrong, in fact that is what I want them to do.

Also, it is extremely disingenuous to label this pay to win. With that mentality, nothing new that comes with the expansions can ever be better than base game. That is silly.

there is nothing disingenuous . it is more disingenuous to sell how good a specialization is by simply making everything else bad. that is the point. as most in this topic has stated, what we want is build divesty. and there can be no divesty if some lazy prick aat anet decide to create kitten magnet build just to sell the game. that is the point.

we do want specialization. BUT we want them to be SPECIAL, not OP. it 2 different thing. I want to be able to heal with different class, tank with different class, have high mobilitary with different class. there are so many possibility and play style. and that requires options. if entire trait tree are nerf that there is no point playing them. then the expansion will not be adding anything to the game, it will only be substituting one meta for another.

basically ideally, what we want and need is distribution. 50% on POF, 30% on HOT, 20% stock. of course most people will play POF build just because it is fresh and new, but it should over the course of a year, stability at around 50% and not another wholesale replacement of build as we seen in HOT. because that would be borring as kitten.

the arc just need to be improve so it is more reliable, it is suppose to be a weak aoe weapon. i don’t really feel staff is being nerf, it has actually been buff because shorter cd. it just need some tweaking to make it less random. i would take 180 degree at 300. that is fine and easy to predict, but that random angle that “follow the animation” is a joke, like you can even see the kittening animation in a fight. unless they polish that animation, they have to make the angle more predictable.

with new specialization coming, it is obvious that class will be rebalance. I am all for changing to existing HOT and unspecialized spec to allow for class to have more variation and function. in fact it is a good thing that specialization will now be “specialized” because there is more then one option.

however the general mood I get while talking to people in the game after the pre-POF patch is they feel that their specialization is being nerf without any improvement in their function. I rationalized to them that POF isn’t out yet so the HOT spec are not yet properly rebalanced. but it seem that concern of POWER CREEP is growing, that we will not see diversity in build but rather the wholesale abandonment of old spec like when HOT was launch.

that would be unacceptable. the expansion is suppose to give us more option, so I do hope that the concern of people are wrong, that anet will make specialization competitive with each other then making it unspec < HOT < POF. because that would be a disappointment.

anet can get away with HOT powercreep with the argument that “future specialization will be balance and specialization are better then unspecialization” however it will not fly with POF since specialization already exist and there will be benchmark to uphold.

personally i feel that the new specialization will finally give anet the leg room to make class adjustment that make better sense, but at the same time it increases the difficulty as there are more thing to balance, I only hope anet took game balance seriously and see that this is indeed going to be trickier then HOT launch and allocated the correct amount of resources into it. even if not immediately, at least make more statement ensuring the playerbase that the game will be balance over the time so people first impression doesn’t straight up kill POF since the new specialization will be “revealed” next week.

I offer a wish of good luck to the staff and crew of anet. to manage both the design and PR side of game balancing.

i agree with the nerf is required, because 600 is too strong. there is a reason why it was trademark as “the lootstick” of gw2. but it should be set to 380. at 300 it doesn’t connect with the surrounding, despite anet claim of an arc boost, i do not see any arc improvement while testing it against npc. unless anet widen the arc further it isn’t reliable, u can hit 4 target in a second and zero target in the next second just because u are slightly turn to the left or right. :P

the pips system change in mid week is open to abuse, it weird that they made the transition in the middle of the week but it is what it is, just deal with it, who cares about a few pips. the fact that you can glide should make up for your saltiness xD

I am not disputing a cmdr’s right to exclude people – they have that right. Whether they should exercise that right to bully people is the issue and whether people should support these types of cmdrs/squads and whether anet should do something about abuses is the issue.

if you think you can do a better job or someone else can do a better job, tag up and people will follow. no one follow a weak commander, that is just the fact. you are not forced to join a tag nor do u need to, no one forced the other player to join any tag, nothing prevent there for being tagging competition to see which tag can attract people to them.

and since you do not dispute the commander right, then if he demand TS, then you should obey. even if you can’t hear, there is nothing stopping you from login. it is pointless I know, but the point is you made an afford or you can choose not to. what you describe is simply not abuse, it is manners.

think about it yourself, why is there only 1 tag? why doesn’t people want to tag up if they agree with you that the tag is abusive and bad to follow. what is really sad is so many commander try so hard to carry the server yet they are insulted, disrespected, and implied to be abusive. they didn’t order you to follow them, they are doing a service and it isn’t cheap being a tag. you should know this, afterall you express how u refuse to get one, what make you assume other like to spend that money just so u can complain about them.

i think you miss why nomad is bad. because magi heal better, minstrel tank better, and zerk viper dps better. why would you nomad? and no legendary armour are for raid. there is no raid legendary back. that is the point.

You realize people still have to pick a server when they log in for the first time?

so how does your solution solve anything when player will still pick server? your is a short term fix that only lead to the same problem down the road, as new player select the “new” wvw server and then don’t wvw. it doesn’t change anything!

and if you really want to park player, just create a fake handler like “NOSERVER” and automatically assign everyone and all the new account to that and if they click on wvw icon, they will be required to select a server. you don’t need to add new server, in fact adding new server for this purpose only increase the problem.

the reason for limiting server population is the map are fill and people can’t join wvw. so why not just add more borderland? and give each server both alpine and desert home for a total of 7 map?

this can be doable with some aggressive linking. anet may even have fewer server to run as there will be fewer match up. and server can take on more population.

If a player wants to join wvw they join one of those servers while their old server still exist for pve purposes.

pve no longer have server. it has been so for over 3 years… what you are suggesting is no different from deleting the server because that is just more data anet has to keep that serve no purpose.

They could even turn this back to their idea of wanting to make smaller servers in order to create better links,

this is ideally what we would like, but the reality is anet will likely just lower the server population and prevent people from transferring just to maintain the links. the link has become a bane because match up balance has to be done across links and not just the server itself. and we didn’t really solve anything, it will only be good for a few month, then we will hit the same problem again because the logarithm that balance server and link is still the same. unless anet changes the way they manage link and allow server to grow naturally it will have problem regardless of the number of server it has.

our problem now isn’t server count, it that more then half the server are mark as full when they are infact empty as kitten.

world should be deleted for the reason that linking is a short term fix and should never be rely upon to keep dead world alive.

every season, a server should be deleted hunger game style, their player will get a free transfer to any server that isn’t full until the match up start getting fill, then a free server will be create for “adventurous guild” to transfer out of those full server so the population float within the desired range. anet need to encourage player to distribute and even out, not penalize them for doing so.

the thing is this, the current system penalize guild for transfering out, so there is a lack of incentive to balance the world. all anet is doing is to block more and more world from transferable which doesn’t fix the problem, it fact it make it worst since server can’t grow at all and there is even less incentive to move if changing server doesn’t fix anything since the link will still give them the same matchup.

having completed legendary armour… my opinion is…

1. there is a lack of reward for 2nd runs which means if you are not there on monday, you are screw…

2. the lfg system suck, you are stuck in a party and wait on them. it would be better if I can tick the boss i want and have something like a quick match system for player that had cleared the boss before.

I don’t understand the concern. The only thing that matters here is total hours spent in wvw, whereby a population of 2000 people playing 10 hours per week is the same as 500 people playing 40 hours a week.

if player were robot you will be right. but if a server depend on 500 people as compared to 2000, what the impact when all the player decide to play 20 minute more? or 20 minute less? this make the system completely unstable for assessing server usage week by week effectively. what is more is the system is accumulative, this greatly reduce the system responsiveness to population change.

Also most of these servers have been open for almost a year, the servers didn’t even go full until like a week into the new rewards, and now people are concerned about getting friends in?

people are ALWAYS concerned about getting friend in, the issue being that you CAN get them in in the past but now u CAN’T. of course there is going to be an uptick of player for pips, however since this exist in all server it is not the server getting more full but a hardcoded number in anet being unable to deal with the change of interest in the playerbase change. what we need is a softcap based on overall ratio players then a predefined number that does not reflect traffic. as you said, server are not full so why suddenly are they all full? it make no sense.

furthermore, after the excitement has wear down and player population has drop, because of accumulation, server are still reflected to be full. this is very unresponsive to actual server condition. since the wvw match only last a week, the buffer shouldn’t be longer than a week. the server are too unresponsive to condition, this also add to the problem of server link imbalance.

the first set technically is also worth 300LI. only that anet is nice and GAVE a free set of ascended worth 150LI… it very much reasonable imo, to spend 25LI for a piece of ascended armour of any stat of my choosing… it not like u have any other use for LI…

you have killed all the raid bosses save Xera after one month, but still struggle with tier 2 fractals? uh, ok…

generally raid will never have an easy mode, nor will the community ever be rewarded… if you think someone help u alot, and you are thankful, only way is to show it yourself…

raid has little replayability after the weekly clear… experienced player can clear it in the first 2 day of the week… there is little incentive to do even experienced run, much less training runs… the cap has to exist to avoid raid from becoming “farmville”. if reward was given by anet, it would be farmed… and that could become a bigger problem…

still i understand what u are saying. the best thing u can do is to show up at practise raid with your homework done; have good rotation and gear… and slowly learn the fight…

Being a bug implies it gets fixed.

a bug is a bug regardless of if there is a solution for fixing or not…

anyone legendary armor canceling special effect in quite a few area… including some class specific skill. this seem to be a shader issue. you can’t just merge 2 shader together, it has to be coded so it is understandable that it broke somethings especially in a large and complex game like gw2-hot. will they be able to fix or will they want to fix it? i don’t know…

there is just so many things wrong with legendary armour now… there is no aura too… some gem outfit are far more impressive then legednary armour are atm… i guess we will have to give anet time and hope they ain’t calling it quits on addressing it’s incompleteness..

I don’t think Anet will create legendary armour or expand it to other game mode… because they don’t even want to create it in the first place, it is to costly to make and test, and they are better off finishing legendary weapons which are still MIA. they really only create this because they “promise” it will be in the game. so this is more to cover their backside then content that they wanted to add in.

legendary armour doesn’t offer player any advantage or look that much better then certain “time limited” outfits. if they want to expand on that, they would have to address the fact that existing legendary armour still doesn’t feel legendary enough…

i created it just cause i have all the material anyway, and I didn’t really felt impressed by how it looked. it look worst then the outfit i had bought with gems, the only thing u get is the cool factor from other players. I have even seen player who crafted the set and tranmuted them… >_>

also i don’t think pvp will ever be a means to get legendary armour since it already has a unique legendary backpiece. also how are u going to implement “challenge mode” to defeating player? do you have to win match with your healing reduce to half? do you have to stand in “safe spot” or take double damage from enemy player? how do one do “collection” in pvp where you want the match to be “fair” and “ranked”? and if it is only for the top 100 players, wouldn’t that be more exclusive then raid where there is no “player capped” on how many people can get it?

if there is a mode that lack legendary gear it is wvw… however i doubt armour would be a good reward for that game mode, the visibility just put a target on you in the battlefield. wvw do need some reward, but it unlikely to be a legendary atm because wvw player are “poor”… wvw need to address the “thin reward” and “high cost”… the free siege reward is a good start to reduce cost, but the reward is still thin… would I have enough material to craft a legendary if I never play PVE? obiviously not… only after buffing the mode do i feel a legendary of some kind (may or may not be armour) is considered.

pretty sure everyone was exotic in like the 2nd month of the game. yes people grind from 1-80 but gw2 grind is like peanuts… this has always been the case. the stat cap is not the issue imo. you can do +5 infusion. and I expect to see minor infusion expansion like +7s… or 2 stat infusion… but what would really expand the build option would be new sigil and runes…

overall gw2 stat cap hasn’t really change in the game.

the large number of crash here since HOT is launch suggest there is some kind of a sync error in the way the code is written. when is anet going to check what is causing this?

fyi Cantha is simply too racist for today commerical reality.

Cantha is basically what we call cultural appropriation. normally this would be fine if said culture is poor and you can just ignore them in your business decision, however with GW2 now having chinese servers, it different from GW1. can they really afford to make a Cantha expansion without pouring 100 of man hours into fixing the lore in order to make their chinese customer happy that the content isn’t kittenting on their culture like in GW1? i doubt it.

remember why there is kitten in Divinity Reach, because the chinese hated the kitten up Cantha theme content that was meant for it originally… bring Cantha back is possible, but it would take money to hire chinese staff that could make the material look authentic instead of the cheap cultural knockoff that it was.

just look at the lfg… people don’t do raid much, they just farm AB all day…

I actually dislike the raid not because it is hard, but because it too not guild war like. and in order to address this, anet has been retrofitting those raid mechanic into the openworld and fotm. and this current gap bothers me. maybe after they fully rework everything, the gameplay will be consistence again, but right now, the different game mode feel foreign to each other which break the immersion and lore abit.

and I am more concern with immersion then difficulty.

I am running training raid, and it a challenge to get people to stay or even try.

also i feel the breakbar limits gameplay option then expands it as it make alot of control pointless and weak because now control is just “a number” then and “effect”. i rather the breakbar has the effect of which ever status is applied the most so there is more thing to consider, as of now it abit borring and metabuild are too easy.

honestly i don’t care about the delivery date of the legendary. the big selling point was armour and raids, neither of those things are online either, however I do like the “episodic” delivery method of content, and these content are not “for the next expansion” but part of the long term experience of GW2, i find the concept acceptable even if I agree with the pro-“anet owns the player legendary” argument, that legendary were “oversold” as part of the “HOT experience”.

but the thing is, should the MMO experience be treated like retail game?

imo, given the amount of complain there has been about the uninteresting method of getting the new precur/legendary. it might be a good idea for them to stop and consider a more story orented path for future legendaries even if that might require them to stop their previous legendary plans. i mean seriously do you want more legendary to be just a grind fest with no background or in-game lore?

honestly the LFG for raid just suck. it has been greatly improved since launch but it is still flawed, forcing the rise of raid guild which serve no purpose other than addressing lfg inability to list raid schedule in game.
