I used to do harcore Raids in Vanilla. At least 24 hours a day, sometimes more.

Burning Crusade really was the best addon. After Wrath of the Lich King the game really went downhill.

Hi, I’m an Orrian prince.
I have over 500.000g in legendarys on my bank, but I don’t have the money for the market fee. If you could just front me 1000g I’ll pay you 50.000g after I sold them.

Just send it to me via in game mail and I’ll get you your money ASAP !

Fix the gem store GW1 style

Autohappens. Sane people don’t buy crazy stuff. I have a firm belief that humanity on average is sane, and that the ratio is even better in this game due to the required intelligence for certain game mechanics. The current cash shop implementation is self defeating.

Actually I have read multiple articles about cash shops in general and f2p games that stated the exact opposite.
A high priced cash shop has a smaller number of players willing to buy stuff but those players often spend a lot (and I mean A LOT) of money.
If they lower the prices, the “hardcore p(l)ayers” will spend less money in total.
The number of players who are not buying stuff in the shop because they think it’s too expensive is much smaller then you think. The revenue generated by those new customers can’t compensate what the “hardcore payers” spend less when the prices are lowered.

(I can’t recall where I read this I’ll see if I can dig up the source..)

Considering people spend hundreds of dollars or euros or whatever on items in
Diablo 3, I would not be surprised if most legendarys worn today were bought through the TP or other means.

So, no. I don’t think the cash shop is defeating itself. It’s designed to be as profitable as possible. You can be sure there is someone doing the math on all of this.
Even if there are things that cost crazy sums of money there are probably enough people willing to pay. Even if you are not one of them, you might even not know any of them, but they exist. If they wouldn’t, the prices would be lowered already.

Yes I am referring to the bonus missions pack.

The armor skins in GW1 were fair deals too imo. I wouldn’t mind paying a bit for a t3 cultural armor but as it stands t3 cultural armor costs well over 50€(transmutation stones not included) for ONE armor set for ONE character.
I know “you can just farm and get it for ingame gold blah blah”.. yes I can but that will take me a loooong time because I don’t have time to play every day.
And when I have time to play I want to do something fun. Farming is not fun to me.

[crafting | dungeons] Play your way

nolop.8095

I’m tired of having to run dungeon X over and over and over and…over to get the armor.
It’s tedious and boring. I’d rather level an alt or help out a fried leveling ect.
Those things are much more fun but will never get me closer to the desired dungeon armor.

So my suggestion is to introduce crafting recipes for dungeon armors.
Just add the recipes to the vendors list for karma or gold or both.
To purchase these recipes you have to finish the story mode of the corresponding dungeon first. To keep the crafted armor in line with the ones from badges it should also be soulbound on pickup.

Example Recipe:
(ArenaNet will implement it (if at all) the way they see fit so don’t get all wussy about this example not being balanced and stuff. It’s just to make it easy to understand what I have in mind)

1x Gossamer Insignia of <something>
5x t6 armor part A
5x t6 armor part B
10x <something> lodestone
??x <more stuff if needed>

These recipes would bring back a slice of the old Guild Wars. All it took to access a certain armor was to play the story until you unlocked the area with the NPC that sold the armor. The materials could be obtained however you liked, trading, farming or simply leveling an alt and spending the money on mats. No matter what you did, you had progress toward your desired prestige armor.

After a lot of runs through Twilight Abor I had one peculiar situation in every single run.
It starts with somebody saying “skip” and then other party members agree to “skip”.

What follows is a mystery to me. It looks like people would rather spend 10 minutes trying to bypass simple enemies and repeatedly die instead of fighting and killing them in about two minutes.

This gave me an idea. If people are so desperate to skip fighting things, why not introduce a racing mode.
No enemys, no pesky bosses, just run through as fast as you can and loot the chest. Maybe add some speed booster fields, banana peels and turtle shells.

Minion Builds viable for Instances?

in Necromancer

Posted by: nolop.8095

nolop.8095

They don’t pull any more mobs than normal. The issue is they die immediately to any form of aoe. MM is not viable in dungeons or fractals ever.

Ignore this completely, as it was written by a player with no concept of reality. Minions are not only viable in every dungeon they are extremely powerful, fun, and your survival goes way up. Carry the bone fiend, bone minions, flesh wurm, and Flesh Golem. Check out the all minion videos on my signature connecting to YouTube.

The only place minions are not viable are high end tournament play and wvwvw zergs. Minions do not die to every single aoe in the game unless you are dumb enough to not take the necessary traits and/or stack all your minions right next to the boss. Also your bone minions should be used as fodder to blow things up.

There are three different main ways to run minions, staff support, soldier bunker, and my personal favorite berzerker axe, all are viable in dungeons and are a world of fun. I have numerous videos, and there are at least 5 to 6 Necros I can name off hand that run minions in dungeons regularly, and at least one or two who run them in Fractals.

Any claim as to their viability due to early deaths in dungeons are shortsighted and made by players with no experience or proof of the matter.

So just being able to name a handfull of people who agree with you is proof ?
Well I can name 7 people who disagree. So I guess you are wrong, right ?

I’m just wondering .. do you happen to work for fox news ? Your post strongly reminds me of their style of argumentation..
“You disagree with us ? You’re a liberal communist unicorn who hates america !”

Talking about being short sighted while splurting such nonsense is kinda ironic don’t you think.

As for the viability of minions I think it doesn’t matter what build you run as long as you don’t want to do speed runs or stuff like that, because face it. Nothing can beat

I’m curious, why do you feel the need to defend or justify yourself for picking Necro ?
Is it maybe because you think necros are weak yourself, but you don’t want to admit that to yourself because then you would have ‘wasted’ all that time playing necro ?
Or is it just pure fanboy fanatism that does not allow any opinion that is not yours.

How is necro now?

nolop.8095

Minions still just watch you fight.
If a dungeon boss or normal mob just looks in their direction they all die.
They don’t scale with your gear AT ALL.

tldr: minions are terrible

My advice, try mesmer. Illusions are as durable as minions but much faster replaced.
Plus phantasms scale with your gear and can deal tons of damage unlike minions.

I’m sorry, but I have experience with both classes in pve and pvp and I’ll say that illusions are NOT, in fact NOWHERE near as durable as minions. Illusions are either momentary distractions, shatter bombs, or phantasmal burst damage. Illusions can drop in single hits even to normal mobs, and phantasms even faster. What saves illusions in this case is the fact that you can generate them fairly quickly, and once you get deceptive evasion you can pretty much have the enemy up to their ears in clones.

Illusions do not take and keep enemy aggro like minions do. What minions are best at are keeping the enemy distracted long enough for you to take them down. And for their specific abilities like immobilize or knockdown.

Of course minions in turn are nowhere near as durable as ranger pets, especially when traited for beastmastery. You can’t really compare minions to pets though, since they serve different functions. In the same way, illusions are very different from minions.

Well my illusions do exactly that. Just the other day I had to solo that spider boss in Twilight Abor from 40% to 0 and that mostly thanks to the boss always attacking my illusions first. If I had been on my necro in that moment I would have died.

Also if you take normal mobs as a measure, illusions take 3 hits until they die most of the time. A bonefiend (that scorpion thingy) can take 4 hits if it’s lucky so the difference isn’t that big, the cooldown however is much shorter on the phantasms/illusions.
The problem is, if the mobs get stronger, it becomes less and less relevant because at some point both, illusions and minions, die in one blow no matter what.

Minions definately need a pve buff. Scaling with equipment, and AoE resistance and most importantly out of combat reg for ALL minions. Having them survive with a sliver of health just so they insta die from the next flower petal flying by is soooo anoying !
(I don’t care and know about pvp, just talking pve here)

Necro might be fun while leveling but on max lvl it falls of so hard it’s not even funny.
Compared to other professions both damage and survivability are laughable.
My full glass cannon thief can survive much better in pve then my full bunker necro.
While this might sound a bit extreme, it’s not my intention to talk down the necro it’s just my experience so far that every single profession I played after the necro (my first char) felt incredibly much more powerfull than the necro.
My thief was able to kill cantaurs on lvl 19 twice as fast as my full exotic necro downleveled to 20.

It would be a very bad decision to abandon Chanta.
In GW1 Chanta was my absolute favorite world to play. Echovald Forest and The Jade Sea were just amazing.
Just imagine how those areas would look with the graphics of GW2. Then there is Kaineng City wich some people didn’t like that much. But just think about all the possibilitys for open world dynamic content.

You stroll through the twisted backalleys in the lower districts, gangs try to mug you, you save shop owners. Or maybe give it a twist, turn it around and help some thugs stealing a shipment of goods.

There could even be real open world PvP. Players/guilds side with NPC gangs/factions and fight over turf.
Even neutral players who don’t want to engage in PvP could get involved by helping civilians cought in the crossfire.

There are sheer endless opportunities to expand and improve the open world experience. And thats just Kaineng City.
Echovald Forest and the Jade Sea would be even more awesome. What happened to the Luxon vs. Kurzick Fight.
There is just so much Lore allready established, throwing all that out of the window would be just plain stupid.

Shrouded Minion Master - Build/Guide

in Necromancer

Posted by: nolop.8095

nolop.8095

I have used this build exclusively in PvE so everything is to be regarded in a PvE context. Everything is based on my own personal experience and represents only my take on how I play my Minion Necro. Feel free to disagree.

In GW1 I played my Necro as a Minion Master almost all the time. In GW2 it’s a bit hard to justify bringing minions to the field.
Minions are great while leveling but fall of a great deal at max level.
Because of that and the fact that they have various other problems they are rarely worth the skill slot.
This build does not change that fact but helps you deal with the problems and even out the flaws to a certain degree.

What I am trying to accomplish with this build:

  • use as many minons as possible without being defenseless without them
  • use multiple stats to be as flexible as possible while keeping the amount of minions high

Playstyle:

Death Shroud(DS) is a great skill with a wide range of options how to use it.
In this build I try to take advantage of DS as much as possible.
It has a fixed ability kit and works with every other build, this allows for great variation in this particular build.

Core mechanics for this build:

  • With 15 point minor trait in the Curses line we get Fury for 5 seconds, with the 30 Point major trait in Soul Reaping we can reduce the cooldown on DS to 5 seconds.
  • Life Blast deals more damage the more Life Force you have

Now how do we use these mechanics ?
The idea is to pop into DS and use the fury buff to ensure a lot of crits. Important is to keep your life force pool high so life blast deals maximum damage while fury is up.
after 5 sec cancel DS and lay down conditions with your staff or weapon of choice.
(more about weapons later)
This way you can still hold your own in a dungeon if your minions died until the cooldowns are back up.

This sounds very simple but is a lot more complicated in combat when you have to dodge or use DS to block off some damage to survive.
Here are some basic guide lines:

  • keep life force above 50% if possible
  • don’t stay in DS when fury is down (unless you have to to survive)
  • use the bone fiends active as often as possible

Weapons:
Staff is imo the best weapon for this build. It can build up life force quickly to sustain the use of DS while allowing you to keep a safe distance. The AoE is very usefull too and provides more durabilty for your minions with the regen from mark of blood.
Your second weapon set can be anything.

Armor:
I’m using carrion armor and emerald rings, amulet ect.
Carrion because this build benefits from power aswell as from condition damage.
Emerald Jewelery to boost the defense.
However I think it would probably be better to go with coral or chrysocola jewelery but I don’t have time for the grind and was barely able to afford this equipment so I can’t test it.

Skills:
Essential skills:

  • Blood Fiend[heal]
  • Bone Fiend
  • Bone Minions or <Variable skill>
  • <Variable skill>
  • Flesh Golem[Elite]

Variable skills:

  • Blood is Power - Provides a good amount of dmg and 10 stacks might
  • Epidemic - if you primary use scepter, Epidemic provides AoE
  • Well of Suffering - works best in a group that lacks vulnerability
  • Signet of undeath - this one is only worth it if you don’t want to use staff, or your group dies alot

Traits:
Curses – 20:

  • Weakening Shroud(10pt) - I highly recomend this. you will jump in and out of DS alot and spread a good amound of conditions this way
  • Master of Corruption(20) - if you run Blood is Power or Epidemic, this is a must
  • Focused Rituals(20) if you go with Well of Suffering this allows for better placement and positioning

Death Magic – 20
Not much to discuss here, Minion Master(10) and Flesh of the Master(20) are absolute must have. Without these it is completely pointless to bring minions.

Soul Reaping – 30

  • Vital Persistence - since DS is used alot and it is important to keep life foce as high as possible, this is essentail to the build
  • Unyielding Blast - with good positioning this trait increases your AoE damage by a huge amount especialy usefull when Life Transfer is on CD
  • Near to Death - this is probably the most important trait for the build and is an absolute must have !

Minion Master gear stats?

in Necromancer

Posted by: nolop.8095

nolop.8095

As a pure minion master it doesn’t mater what stats you use, at least not for your minions. Their stats are fixed and do not scale with anything but level.
Hoever going for tanky items (knight, emerald) is generaly a good idea.

I’m using Carrion armor and emerald jewelery for a mix of vitality and toughness.
This way I can adapt my build towards power or conditions without switching gear.

Necromancers are Garbage underwater

in Necromancer

Posted by: nolop.8095

nolop.8095

The greatest thing about fighting under water with the necro is DS.
Under water it actually manages to lower your abysmal damage even further thanks to life blast having a greatly increased casting time and reduced damage on top.

Personally I avoid water at all costs. No reward, event, or great scenery can outweight the pain it is to bear how kittened the necro is under water.

Also you can’t run minions under water because the only elite you can use (plague) kills every minion you have if you use it. This is a poster example of how much thought ANet put into the development of the Necromancer.

i play my thief atm and
thief is not Overpowered
stealth make him overpowered
the ability to leave an combat vs 1 enemy or vs 5 or vs 30
the ability to enter in an tower and defend it when 30 enemy’s guard the dor
and is even more overpowered on P/D build where you are ranged and 80% of the time stealthed.
If A-net will change stealth with some extra evades stability /regeneration /armor or protection and leave 1 /2 stealth skills to thief they will be more balanced, and more viable in pve as well

If a thief is stealthed for 80% of the fight as you stated, you can simply ignore him. There’s not much he can do in what time is spent outside of stealth unless ofcourse said thief faces another glass cannon or someone with low health – someone that dies in 2sec from anything anyway.

Aside from that Thiefs/Rogues or classes like that are deemed to be OP in pretty much every game ever due to their nature of combat.
Those classes are based on not fighting a fair fight. They excell at taking out single isolated and/or weak targets. And are thus percieved OP because a fight with a thief is a fight with a big disatvantage for you in most cases. Smart thieves avoid fights that are not in their favor.

(My) Simple rules to ruin an assassins day:
1. Never swim alone !
2. Don’t be a target. If you are wounded seek the protection of nearby allys or even NPC to regen.
3. Be aware of the range a thief can engage you. Even if they are melee, treat them like rangers in terms of the range they are dangerous at.

There are one type of ghosts that are necromancers and have minions too. One of them attacked me and.. well all minions, mine and the ghost’s just stood there doing nothing.
now I can’t stop imagining my char and the ghost suddenly stop fighting and become BFFs because “I know that feel bro..”
So the next time your minions have migrane and don’t want to participate in a fight remember, it happens to NPCs too.

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nolop.8095

nolop.8095

The one thing I miss the most from GW1 is hard mode.
While it’s ok to make content appealing to a larger audience, I really miss a challange in GW2.
And I’m talking about challanges not bosses with a gorillion hp that take hours to kill and oneshot everything unless you bring the apropriate tier of gear.
I’m talking about encounters that need strategy, and thinking to take down not hours of grinding and farming.

The second thing I miss is skill synergy.
In GW1 we had to think about how we combine skills to get maximum effects -
interaction with conditions and skills – get energy back if a certain condition is on the target ect.

Third thing is skill variety.
GW1 had so many skills it was scary at times, GW2 has barely enough skills to establish a illusion of choice.
GW1 had elite skills that shaped and defined a Build. In GW2 I rarely ever use any elite skill since they have just too much cooldown and I just forget about them.
elite skills in guildwars just feel “slapped on”. You have your build and then take the elite that you like best. It just doesn’t matter at all what elite you pick or at least it does not feel like it matters and I often wish I could yous slot an additional normal skill instead of an elite.

They just gathered materials, completely ignoring the enemy NPCs.

So I would suggest to remove all NPCs from those areas because they don’t have reason to exist. They should just be replaced by a global debuff that stacks and deals damage when you stand still. This way gathering could be a bit mor fun and you don’t have pesky NPCs trying to bait you into a fight.
In addition creating new content becomes much easier so we can get more different areas to grind in a shorter time.

As sheobix pointed out nicely, minions are not everything.
There is a lot more a necro can be terrible at. conditions for example.
Many say you deal a lot of damage with a condi build but don’t worry, if you play in a group your bleeds will be overwritten for sure and your dmg will be abysmal as usual.
then there are well builds with great AoE, that is, if you don’t mind waiting 20sec between fights for your cooldowns. Just play and level your necromancer and you will learn how to get owned on a completely different level that is impossible to acomplish with any other class in the game.

For my build; I like to use 20curses 20death 30soul with minions and bip.
bip + DS gives you a nice barrage with fury and you can swap between staff and scepter+dagger to dish out a lot of conditions.
This way you can deal some damage even when your minions all died in a fire or something .. again.

@OP
what you describe is a simple mathematical problem in statistics.

I’ll try to explain.
Let’s say we have one million active players total and 100,000 visit the forum on a regular basis.
10,000 of them post on the forum if they are satisfied or not.
Now lets say 3000 people are satisfied while 7000 are not.
this gives us 70% unsatisfied and 30% satisfied players.
if you only ask 10 or so people from your guild there is a large margin of error in your result.
so maybe 8 people of your guild are happy and 2 are not.
but if you expand this and instead ask 100 people in local chat you will probably get closer to the 70% / 30% distribution.

What I’m trying to say is, the overall mood reflected in a forum with more than 1000 people is always more accurate then your guild (unless your guild has more members than the forum has users)
