I will be playing Mesmer, which sucks because I love ele. But this change will be the end of it for me. I haven’t played in months, and I still see the same BS with class balance….

you can still damage them while they are stealthed. Try using a melee attack, or some aoe casts. A lot of times you can down players while they are in stealth trying to avoid damage

I also think it’s a step backwards.
I really do miss popping into custom arenas or hotjoins until my que time was ready or doing pve events until que time.
I get the reason. Less que rejections from players in pve world, but being stuck in mists with absolutely nothing to do but jump around and screw with other players is pretty bad.

At the very least they should let us join “practice” mode while we wait for the queue like we used to. Although I personally would like to be able to queue for pvp in the pve world like old times. If anet is not willing, allowing us to practice/ custom arena is a decent compromise

But think about the potential income of PVPers! We could take part of the population from WoW’s arena base who would love this type of freedom and skipping the leveling process. And bring back old GW2 players and convert at least some PVErs. I thinks a bit short sighted to just think it’d be fracturing the player base, when in reality you could just be growing it. Bringing in more players and ex players could do wonders for both arena AND conquest populations at once.

It isn’t off the table, and we have most of the tech for it. I expect at some point we will do it, just not now. I don’t know when either.

Edit: This isn’t a promise we’ll do these type of arenas, just my opinion based off of previous discussions with the team. We may never do them, or we may do something like them. Nothing is planned at this point.

Amazing response, and hopefully someday it will be implemented. I too agree that it will attract a LOT of players, and not really divide the player base. Many people are very very bored of WoW and only play for the arena aspect. Anet could snag a lot of them with a gladiator style 2v2,3v3 arena (where each person has 1 life, last team standing wins)

I think the reason you are seeing a lot now is because of the $10 sale gw2 recently had. Before no one would really risk a $40 account with blatantly hacking in spvp….now….it’s definitely more common. They will be banned soon though and you won’t see it as much. Until another sale happens, of course.

Tbh every major game has working hacks that exist. There really isn’t too much anet or any other company can do. Yeah they can put in “detection” methods that will auto ban players (which I am 90% sure gw2 already has some of) but in reality the guys writing these hacks are often professional software engineers who work in the IT field. Can’t really do much when they are constantly evolving their software.

The truth is it’s there to allow the server some leniency / not lag out the mail. All games have this, although they try to hide it. In archeage for example all mailboxes will “fly” up every minute or so with an owl picking them up and be inaccessible for a few seconds. World of warcraft also has mail lag to keep the server from becoming unstable but they are more blatant about it and don’t care.

I agree it should be raised slightly. But above is the real reasoning, not really for bots. Bots can be programmed to wait x amount of seconds in-between selling.

I’ve had some awesome epic battles in there too op, I understand where you are coming from. The truth is guild wars 2 is a care bear game. People don’t like ganking/ world pvp/ pk. I say keep ganking them, I might start going there myself to cause some mischief.

I miss raid on the Capricorn :/ I wish it was still around, even if only available in practice/ hotjoin. It was a fun map to play, the invulnerability power-ups on the ship are what I miss most about it. The underwater was meh but it was still cool to have an option to pvp with underwater combat. They should have left it. More maps/ objective choices = better.

No idea why it was removed honestly. It wasn’t THAT confusing, and it should have stayed in practice as an option if anything.

A lot of people have been asking for this since the start of the game…..as of now it’s only possible to do in custom arenas. There have been some 2v2 tournaments held in the past that were pretty popular and fun to watch.

One of the tournaments was held on the bottom level of temple of the silent storm (where water used to be/ tranquility buff is). You could probably find it by googling, it was a blast to watch. Arena Net probably has a lot going on atm and I doubt they would put the mode in, but it would be amazing if they did.

It is already possible to swap weapons out of combat….I myself have seen several scripts that do this for warrior warhorn swiftness or mesmer focus swiftness…what they do is when you press your keybind the script opens inventory and always clicks the exact spot of the weapon that is entered in the script. It can only be done out of combat, so it really doesn’t give any advantages because if u are fast the inventory can be opened with the “I” keybind and click the weapon.

I personally don’t use this script but someone with very basic programming knowledge could whip up a script for ele out of combat swapping very quickly…I myself could do it so im sure anet could too….even though the click scripts are sort of ghetto and you can’t move the inventory or it wont work. They have real programmers so I’m sure they could do much better

Use dungeon tokens, buy exotic daggers with them and throw them into the forge. I managed to get spark on my 5th try last night using this method. Didn’t spend a g and actually made some gold selling the non soulbound daggers I got from the forge. I encourage others to try the forge before paying that much for spark

for every one of you there is someone who will spend 500 daggers and get nothing. since dungeon tokens require 300 per dagger, you would have to run 5 paths per dagger.
lets say its 10 minutes per path semi speed
but you can only run 3 for 60 tokens per day, so 180 day one and 120 day 2.
so you spend 50 minutes over the course of 2 days, and get 1 dagger, as forge fodder, which you can place a buy order for 2.08 gold.

or you could buy 10 rare hoods with the tokens, salvage them for an average of 9 ectos, and sell that for 2.94 gold.

Its not really looking that effecient in any case, and this is if you are at the decent dunegon runner who does any path in 10 minutes or less.

If you got extra tokens lying around and you want to gamble sure, but its not really much more effecient than mid teir casual gold grinding.

It’s a way to make some extra gold out of dungeons as well as a tiny chance at a precursor. Each forge attempt will make u 4 to 7g on the non soulbound dagger that u will get from using the dungeon daggers. I think it’s a good way to make extra gold with a chance at a pre from doing your normal dungeon routine (assuming the person enjoys dungeons)

You can run ac path 123 with a good group in 30 minutes each day. All 3 paths of coe can be done in less than an hour with an average group also. I realize it’s not the instant gold we all want but over time doing what I said in my last post will give u much more gold for your time as well as “free” chances at a precursor.

Giving away legendary weapons/precursors is honestly an amazing way to get people interested in pvp. This tournament is a giant leap in the right direction for anet, and it almost makes me want to come back and play in it. I would be 100% down if we had a new game mode, conquest is just so boring and I’m not sure if even legendary weapons will get 16 teams of skilled players to participate.

It may end up being one or two teams of high end pvpers (if they are still around/willing to return) vs a bunch of pve players looking to try and get legendary weapons. This type of tournament would have been absolutely amazing to have around a year ago…unfortunately it may be a bit late now. Regardless, I have to give my props to anet for coming up with these great incentives to get players interested in a competitive tournament. Bravo!

If you use staff as a mesmer, you can turn 180 degrees quickly, use phase retreat (staff 2 skill) then turn back around. You can use blink afterwards and cover some amazing distance. Also, blink can be traited to 1200 range on 24 second cd. That, plus phase retreating every 8 seconds is some sexy mobility on mesmer.

Phase retreat can be used like blink to get up walls and take short cuts. To be honest mesmer mobility is awesome and it can all be used in combat. When I first made my mesmer I thought the run speed was bad but as I learned my class I no longer have any issues keeping up with others or even chasing down roamers. Mesmer mobility is very good but not at first glance….you have to have a bit of skill

Also swap to focus when running out of combat. If you get good, you will be able to do this reliably to get swiftness without having to keep focus equipped. I’ve gotten to the point where I can swap so fast out of combat I can use it while being chased (as long as im out of combat for a split second, of course)

2H double sigil before season 2?

I thought we were getting the double sigils for 2handers/ferocity change etc before season 2 starts… Or was that a lie? I’m seeing that they only announced a maintenance patch before the season starts?

I believe the answer you are looking for is no.

Remember also it was very clearly stated they did not want to make any sweeping balance changes during a WvW season

I think you can put two and two together to see that likely the balance/feature/messiah patch will be out after the WvW season 2 ends.

Luckily, eso will be out in just about 2 weeks. The season for wvw isn’t going to be over until mid may at the earliest. Anet is shooting themselves in the foot here…

Why else would vigil keep conveniently leave out the crafting stations that everyone needs because of the new ascended back pieces that came with this update? Also, to my knowledge there is no where to spend guild commendations without air ship pass

Yeah this really sucks, luckily I was given a free month of WoW and a new pvp season starts there today. Might just stick with WoW until ESO comes out because gw2 has been casual and very lackluster for me. The combat is amazing but the stack in the corner dps/pve is extremely boring and mindless.

Play a thief, Stealth to each corner while the enemy tries to find you.

Play till they ragequit or afk.

People always use this to deny the players a fun game mode. How about a little research and seeing how world of warcraft deals with this problem? In WoW after 1 min a stealth “buff” pops up on both sides of an arena and the buff gives your team complete stealth detection.

That alone completely prevents stealth griefing in that game and im kitten sure it would work here if we had an arena fight to the death mode

Yes. But it’s far too late. Spvp in gw2 is a complete fail….and it’s a fail because of the devs who had their “vision” for conquest….the boring capture node game mode that people cring when it pops up in random queues of other successful games….who would have thought to make this terrible mode the ONLY pvp mode?

I would like to meet the guy who thought of that one…must be a moba player who never played mmo pvp before. Oh well…lots of good games coming out real soon

Karl, has the dev team considered taking a look at ride the lightning? The cooldown is insanely long compared to what it used to be. The range was also severely nerfed at the same time as the cooldown. This nerf was really harsh and the fact that it always goes on full cooldown if blocked (when it was stated not to). The skill is very buggy and makes me sad everytime I use it

Rtl nerf is outdated because devs failed to take the range nerf into account when they hit eles class defining spell (in the old meta at least) with a double cd. Old skill was 1600 range on 15sec cd, then 20 sec cd, and now its 1200 range with 40 second cooldown. Very unfair

It is sickening how people are using this BUG to try and lobby for mesmer nerfs. Mesmers don’t need nerfs, bad players need buffs to their skill! New/bad players hate mesmers because they can’t just tab target and spam auto attack….against a mesmer you have to actually pay attention to their movement and find the real one. Some people just refuse to actively pay attention to the game as they are playing it. They just want to do omgwtfdps and not have to time it or pay any attention.

All you people lobbying for mesmer nerfs need to learn to play. This is a serious bug and really ruins mesmers in all aspects of the game (even pve). Having the mossman in fractals stealth ruins mesmer damage during that boss fight. This needs fixing.

Very suprised to see ride the lightning unchanged. The cooldown is simply too long; 40 seconds is crazy for an elementalists trademark skill. The skill never hits, and goes on full cooldown when blocked or dodged and is very very easy to dodge an ele coming at you with rtl. I share the same concerns as the op.

I think they plan to release new weapon sets for all classes with the next feature build. If not, then these changes are an absolute joke and almost a slap in the face to eles (you have sustain problems? heres 3 seconds of regen on scepter water trident which is small and ground targeted LOL)

I think they realize this. They plan to make burning speed (dagger fire 3) evade during the animation. This obviously won’t magically fix all of the ele problems but imo a step in the right direction. This will give eles a bit of extra BASELINE defense (as long as u use dagger mainhand). At least they somewhat realize the issue. Maybe new weapon sets that come out in the future will have more defensive skills that also add to overall dps like the new burning speed will.

Please give a VALID reason why you’re so opposed to it? All your comparisons to RUSH were made invalid already. We’re trying to compare “gap closers”, not weapon sets. I don’t see why you’re bringing it up. What’s the point of having many skills when you’re having trouble closing the gap between you and your target?

I am opposed to a revert of the previous nerf because I feel that that nerf was a valid step in the right direction. I feel that if the bugs were fixed, this would be a really good skill. I am not opposed to a small redction in the cd of this skill, just to a revert of the TheO nerf. Also, all of my points regarding the caomparison of RTL and Rush were not invalidated. A few of them were, most of them still stand. (RTL still tracks, is still not effected by movement impairing effects such as cripple or chill, still does AOE damage….).

We are asking for a cooldown reduction, not to have the range nerf reverted. Why does a warrior with the highest health per second and top damage also get 2 spammable mobility skills when eles one gap closer had to get gutted and a 100 percent cd increase? And you say rtl tracks to a target and rush doesn’t….nonsense. Rush hits as often as rtl does. Not to mention you can use rush without a target for a lot of extra mobility.

When an ele uses rtl without a target, it is the equivalent of a warrior using rush without a target. Only thing is, the ele has their mobility always put on a harsh 40 second cd while a warrior has a very low cd on rush. Not to mention that rush also goes much much farther than 1200 if traited for 25 percent speed and have swiftness up.(I have tested this before; it goes 1550 range like old rtl which was GUTTED) Warrior gs also has a 2nd spammable ability for mobility as their gs 3 skill. If warriors are allowed to have this much mobility, it is an absolute slap in the face to eles telling them that their rtl nerf was a “good” thing.

You obviously play a greatsword warrior with healing signet. Sorry for suggesting that a squishy class that is underrepresented should have some.mobility. sorry, forgot that everything in this game is reserved for warriors.

Rtl absolutely needs it’s cd reduced. 20 or 25 seconds. The skill never hits the majority of the time, even when used in a pve rotation for damage it will still go on the 40 second cd which is absurd and also the biggest evidence of class bias (since warrior rush and 3 gs skill are spamable and put you way farther than 1200 range all on a much shorter cd)

RTL was a problem in WvW scenario where ele jumps you and then if something bad happens they blink + RTL out and that way Ele got pretty much everytime out of combat and revive to full, not much to do about it.

And before anyone says “You can chase him as a warrior”. Nope, he will get far enough to reset the fight with that simple combo (still can, but then ele can’t really get back to combat efficiently without RTL)

But I wouldn’t mind it to be reduced to 20/30 or something.

And maybe, just maybe they could fix the warriors Rush to hit something, at least 50% of the time (50% of the time that you should hit, not counting evades, blocks etc.) and I would be super happy!

You fail to mention the reason that used to work was because of the 1550 RANGE. The RANGE let the ele continuously get out of combat. The range is now 1200 which is -350 range. That is pretty significant; that is 50 range more than an eles lightning whip auto attack which if you test yourself actually has a pretty crazy range….so yeah, the old range was the reason the skill was seen as “op”. Now, it sucks, with a 40 cooldown and kitten range which never let’s you get out of combat. Ever.

If the skill was still 1550 range then MAYBE the cooldown would be less harsh since then it would at least get you out of combat once. Sadly, that isn’t the case and the current version of the skill is trash and nothing more but a souvenir of when eles used to be something

Ride the lightning used to actually be 1550 range….the tooltip was “bugged” or so they say so the range was cut by 350 and then the cooldown increased to 40 seconds. If the range was just cut, the skill would have been fine at 20 sec cd. It needs to be reduced because 40 sec cd is ridiculous when warriors can run around trolling all day with their greatsword weapon skills. And don’t say gs isn’t viable as your excuse warriors, you shouldn’t have the option for best mobility in the game and most sustain all in one

Well, unless they split those skills between PVE and WVW you need to QFT because I don’t need my warrior’s movement speed nerfed in PVE.

Well, it happened to elementalists…..I think warrior mobility is too good in all parts of the game….pve included. If rtl had to get reduced range and double cooldown in pve it’s only fair that warrior follows the same philosophy…

To be honest, I bet the anti-skyhammer ring would actually sell and make anet some money. It could be “allows the wearer to choose one map that will no longer appear in the solo arena rotation”. Then, it wouldn’t be limited to skyhammer and could actually appeal to a lot of people. Just a thought.

If they are smart, they will take note of all the negativity on the forum. All this negativity came out mostly today, and that is all the result of realizing balance changes are not going to happen until at the very very least end of march/early april….the pvp player base simply cannot wait another 3 months for the small and relatively low impact changes that were proposed on the last ready up.

It is time for the pvp team to step up and sneak some small balance changes into one of the living story updates. I can’t see pvp surviving if the community has to wait 3+ months for ANY changes at all when it comes to class balance. There is no reason why a small 8% heal reduction, or a small cd reduction from armor of earth could not be hotfixed.

So...no pvp changes this patch ?

So, grouch, are you REALLY telling us that stuff like setting Armor of Earth cooldown from 90 seconds to 75 seconds is SUCH A HUGE change that there is no way that it can go into a “normal” patch? That such a change really needs 3 month of feedback and testing before it can be released?

Sure the sigil and rune revamp is gonna need testing, but why the frack don’t you release some balance changes, the little ones, the “shaves” as you always like to call them, in a “normal” patch?

Don’t forget about the 3 seconds of regeneration of scepter water trident skill….totally needs to be tested for 2 months to make sure the 3 seconds worth of regeneration to allies isn’t overpowered…since you can ground target it and all. Don’t want eles to have too much support since their team support build has been dominating the meta….and not spirit rangers….

Seriously, a handful of tiny shaves is called a Kneejerk change? pvp could use kneejerk changes, lots of them, just test them out on a public ptr beforehand.

This. The only kneejerk changes GW2 ever had was most of the elementalist nerfs (especially double RTL nerf + mistform healing) and the warrior buffs (healing signet + adrenal health) yet suddenly now they only want to shave? Frack that!

Exactly. As an elementalist, I feel absolutely betrayed by arena net. The proposed changes to elementalists are laughable and will not do anything to fix all the knee jerk nerfs that my class has suffered. AND, to top it all off, we have to wait another 2 months to get these sub par “buffs” which address nothing besides signet of restoration.(shouldn’t have been nerfed to begin with). Then, after those 2 months, it will be another period of waiting for meaningful changes!!

Screw this, done with pvp for a few months at least. I suggest everyone stop doing any form of ranked pvp (solo queue) to protest this nonsense. Maybe they will see a problem if the 1000 active pvpers stop doing pvp all together and decide to do a balance patch sometime before april…

Just help elementalists out before then…so so sick of waiting for patches to help us…we waited for the diamond skin patch for so long and it only nerfed us by moving essential traits further down essential traitlines…now we have to wait until april to be playable…?

Can’t we just forget the dumb sigil changes (that nobody asked for!!!) and do some simple balance tweaks? Like reduce the long long LONG cooldown on ride the lightning…?

I might quit pvp entirely until the next “feature patch” since that means there will be no balance changes until the beginning of april….that means we have a 2+ month wait before we get ANY class balance changes. Luckily, I do enjoy me some pve. I’ll be doing pve for a while until I get bored of that.

I really hope they consider doing a balance patch before march/early april…this is ridiculous. Their blizzard style “strategy” of holding off on content to time with the release of another mmo is only going to hurt them…

This is exactly what blizzard does to WoW players before they announce an expansion or new patch…and it just so always happens to be right around the time of another new mmo. Last year blizzard released their mists of pandaria expansion pre patch literally 2 or 3 days before guild wars 2 launched. I feel like anet is trying to do the same….but they will fail at it…

The playerbase feels almost betrayed by the possible shady scheme that anets higher ups are trying to pull off. Just give us some balance changes already (specifically elementalist!!) The other “features” such as game modes should be held off for that march/april patch since anet is so sold on their strategy.

So eles have to wait until march to play their class in pvp again….? I’m out, ESO will be out around that time.

What really sucks is in the ready up preview show they said that the changes will be in the next build. Well here we are, next build, and the minimal balance updates that were proposed can’t even be updated.

Since bloody everone here who seem to have problems about the kitten land speed of warriors have no idea what they are talking about. Heres a easy version for you chums.

I would assume u guys have problems with the full running warrior, in order to achieve this movement a war has to equip gs, swd/warhorn with bulls charge. In this setup a warior will have a hard time doing damage both with a group and solo, making it the easiest set up to fight. Sure he would run away at first signs of a loss but he would be of no danger to anyone even if the war is in full zerk. (If you have problems dueling this kind of warrior you do have to work on learning to fight better with your class.)

The seond most mobility set up is those with gs with any other weapon and bulls charge. This set up will have the warrior left with 2 utility slots. And if u see the war use bulls charge during the fight, only the gs will be left to escape (which I will get into later) even in this spec dd eles, thiefs and some mesmers are able to catch and kill this warrior.

That third most mobile warrior is those with only gs without bulls charge( the wepon set and utility I run the most) in this build most classes which pay attention to when the war draws out the greatsword and cc smartly would be able to catch and finish off the war.

Learn more before you go take a huge dump in the forum.

GS alone is more than enough to escape most situations, ftr. instantly making 1500 distance between yourself and your opponent, assuming you both start from the same location, is as far as the longest ranged attacks in the game (traited grenades/longbow). Also celestial warriors who use sword/gs are effective, not particularly so but it’s not weak.

I am not sure how other people fight warriors, but it certainly sounds like they face tank and do skill rotations without thinking. I roam on my guardian as well and when I see a war either turn or take out a gs I would use septer imob/ gs pull. I just hate how people think that range is everything for an escape, unlike shadow step/blink/rtl/lighting flash. A warrior’s escape are all prone to cc.
And please gs/swd warriors have joke damage. Damage yes but weak and easily kitable but then again people here seem to like eating hb to the face

So they have the best mobility in the game out of all.classes but they are easily kiteable….not exactly sure what you mean here…

I just feel that warriors with their ultra tankiness, passive healing, and beast dps do not deserve to have an option for this much mobility. Bulls charge is ok because it is a utility. But elementalists had their fun spell (ride the lightning) gutted because they were abusing it much like warriors are….just don’t think it’s fair is all…

The skills warrior uses for mobility are suppose to be used for gap closers not escape mechanisms. Its probably a oversight by Anet, because if its not then they would be hypocritical to had nerfed elementalist for the same reason.

Rush, Bull’s charge and Savage leap should all require targets to use.

This. Anet is sadly slightly biased in their decisions. I know a few of anets team actually dohave warriors as their main characters. I hope they consider what they have done to ele gap closing and either revert the nerfs or apply the same screwed balancing logic tothe warrior abilities.

Warrior sword and greatsword is more mobile than a thief. A warrior can outrun a zerg and troll all day in wvw if they feel like it. Why are they allowed this much mobility, as well as the top damage in the game? and to top it all off, they have the highest base health and tankiness of all the professions. #biased balancing

Ele deserves to have rtl cooldown nerf reverted. If this happens greatsword will be ok for warriors. Right now judging by anets past balancing philosophies (they gutted ele gap closing) warrior mobility deserves double cooldown and a slight range reduction. Make the gap closers such as rush double cd unless it hits a target.

It’s only fair. Eles have to suffer the hypocrisy, so should warriors who are the absolute best class in all game modes (pve speed run, tpvp, and wvw zerging and roaming with mobility)

I have a great idea…

Why don t simply reduce the range and double the cooldown on miss?
Can be done with initiative cost also…should cost double and give half back on hit ….

I m sure it would work perfectly leaving untouched the gap closing ability…

I agree with this. Elementalists had their gap closer ride the lightning nerfed severely ; warrior has better mobility and more sustain than an ele…either revert rtl’s harsh harsh cooldown nerf or give warrior gap closers a similar effect (double cd on miss)
