Change the way "ruins" territories work

in WvW

Posted by: rpfohr.7048

rpfohr.7048

There is no sense of ownership because the rune de caps by itself. the way it should be is if you have blood lust you gain access to the whole territory and can glide through it. (also this would be good as it puts more important on ruins and center of map and something more to fight over.)

Right now this is a like a null can’t fly zone because the ruins are always de capped unless your trying to capture. I mean even if your defending your ruins they are probably de capped and your just running to their defense.

This area needs a more permanent ownership feel and as much access to gliding as the other area’s.

Also ever have a ruin decap on you while your gliding lol…. at least if it was tied to bloodlust you would have a warning with a timer

Reward track suggestion

in WvW

Posted by: rpfohr.7048

rpfohr.7048

So I actually think the rewards for wvw are pretty decent. my god there are a lot of systems in place and it feels like your always getting something which is great.

However the world claim tickets….with the new legendary armor introduced, feels very time gated. Perhaps more time gated than other systems I’ve seen.

Any thoughts to adding a reward track that would focus on giving claim tickets? Even if its some thing small so that much of the time gate is still intact.

Such as at the end of the reward track you get 100 claim tickets. That is something that would seem fair to me. That way if its something you want to focus on you can.

I think it would both help the casuals out who feel time gated by the grind of trying to get diamond and also the hard cores who just want to play all the time and still feel like playing in wvw isn’t just a PIP grind for claim tickets and looking for outnumbered maps.

I disagree. I found some good synergy in the following traitlines

Skrimishing – spotter and vicous quarry
beast mastery – (I went frontline with GS and axe traits because again furry crit build) Not to mention there is a minor that grants you might every time you crit in BM (because it would have granted your pet that might)
SB minors do well with furry, going leader of pack. You may say its small but its something. The minor is awesome when you enter beastmode you get all your pets boons. So you go in right before combat after all the might stacking and buffing. You OP.

This is exactly what the game mode needed. This brings more meaning to capture in territories and areas then just putting points on a board. Players will see a more tangible benefits and this will be more engaged in the game mode.

Gives an incentive to the enemy to go out and capture a specific area to prevent them gliding in it should approve too much of a tactical advantage. Overall raising the stakes is great.

If you put on more offensive gear it can do pretty well. Its not max DPS so I tend to not use it but flanking is really easy in PvE. You wouldn’t need the defense of GS so I’d go ST to try to up damage a little more. I also take flame trap instead of SS and spotter instead of barbs and trappers x. It might as well be a completly different build with more condi’s. The GS SB is its own thing.

It does much better in roaming wvw. Its pretty good in WvW you move fast with GS. GS isn’t just for defense but the synergy with ancient seeds and pets too.

electric wyvern for stuns with ancient seeds and if it misses swoop into a daze strike for ancient seeds. Your defensive on swap weapon. you can also use smokescale and swoop for a get away.

SB pew pew is incredible. Bleeds so strong. Concussion shot to ancient seeds is of course a gimme. spike trap works so well. and the burst comes from sharp stone.

Sigils are important torment needed to cover your bleeds. use poison too on SB

Id never thought Id put GS with SB as one is condi and one isn’t but here it is!

[Suggestion] Ranger Elite Spec: The Hunter

in Ranger

Posted by: rpfohr.7048

rpfohr.7048

This thread sounds like a GW1 fanboy

Hammer makes no sense as a hunter weapon. You don’t bludgeon your pray to death. Hunters come from killing their prey for sport or to eat for survival. You don’t hammer them.

A one time per use ability. Not to mention preparations are pretty similar to venoms which the thief has.

Pistol or rifle a better fit the theme.

I Think more the predator when you think of the hunter. Constantly stalking and disappearing. Watching and waiting for the advantage in his relentless pursuit to kill

I appreciate your feedback but listen to yourself;

First you say:

The preparations need to be flushed out far more. To Reliant stealth.

Then you say:

I Think more the predator when you think of the hunter. Constantly stalking and disappearing.

First you say:

Favors longbow too much.

Then you suggest ranged weapons as the defining weapon:

Pistol or rifle a better fit the theme.

The reason why the spec favours the bow is because the bow is a hunting weapon. The Hammer in this e-spec is all about nostalgia, yes but that isn’t a bad thing. It’s just an aesthetic choice for the fun of it.

And if you were going to flesh out Preparations, what would you do? It would be good to know what you think Preparations are lacking.

A one time per use ability. Not to mention preparations are pretty similar to venoms which the thief has.

What makes you think that Preparations are a one time per use ability? They literally last for 30s and technically have a five seconds cooldown when out of combat or a 2s cooldown if you use stealth.

My post may seem like it is full of contradictions but it is only because I did not clearly enough indicate that I was juggling 2 separate idea’s in the same post.

To address your concerns……..The way the mechanic was set up in OP was you could only reset it by stealth and out of combat. Now we have a few ways to get stealth such as smokescale and trapper runes but its pretty obvious that LB3 is the go to here. This is why I feel it was to favoritism to LB.

The whole predator thing isn’t really related to your idea….it would be if I were to build my own elite spec around preparations. I DID like where you went with reseting pres through stealth. I just DIDN’T like how much it favored LB. I think a focus of the elite spec would have to find more stealth access to non LB builds.

On the matter of Hammer, I’d love a thumper build I just wouldn’t do it with this spec. Preparations are all about using that opening tactial advantage after you prepared. I think Bunny Thumper is its own theme. Just go ham on them. In my opinion the one thing ranger severely lacks is some solid melee CC. I think Hammer and Mace would both be fantastic. Hammer of course brings that nostalgia.

If I were to build a thumped sec I’d probably do it in a way so that I could Chain CC with my own pet. Hell I’d go to the max and give this spec the unique “Bunny Pet” which has an F2 ability on a 15 sec cool down that makes it so cute, it taunts all enemies the enemy for 1 second. And it would be instant cast!

The only way I could see these 2 working together is if the hammer had a focus on “picking up dust after impact on the ground to camoflauge the ranger” or make it a smoke field and then you would give it a leap finisher and blast finisher for good stealth. Maybe there are traits that can help out the other builds gain stealth if “certain conditions are met” pun intended.

I’m a gw1 fanboy myself…..but its easy to see another. I just felt like the idea was mashed together out of fanboyism rather than thought.

Is sharpening stone finally worth it?

in Ranger

I tested out a “super bleed” build today for roaming wvw that puts everything it had into evasion, bleeding and disabling. I was pretty much working with my stealth trapper roam gear. It seemed to do well and sharpening stone went a long way with the buffs. Hidden Barbs of course made it much stronger as well.

I use to run torch offhand and flame trap to give some burning diversification but I seem to be doing pretty well with SS on there and offhand dagger.

I’m pretty much laughing at the poll results at this moment, removal might not even get a majority. forget a supermajority.

My personal feelings towards this matter is I love variety. I don’t want to play the same boring BL over and over. So I voted to keep DBL. Hopefully in 2-3 years down the line A net will build some more WvW maps and we can revisit removal of the weakest BL map then.

But Honestly WvW got stale and it needs variety in maps and in matchups.

Moving re linking time to 2 months to 3 was a step in the right direction and keeping map variety is also. A Net has been shown to be a company that takes change to heart and while DBL isn’t perfect we can continue to work on and fix it.

Honestly ABL isn’t perfect either, its blobby and small. DBL may have gone to far in the other direction and it has its own problems but it solved some of the problems on ABL. Mixing the maps up will let players play on the map they want to ( that last part is assuming we run mixed BL instead of rotating)

The more I looked at the build the more I thought. “How cool would it be on YouTube to go MS and use celestial shadow to surprise people with Moment of Clarity” But that would be more a full zerk build and you have lots of knights.

So WS is good for the minors and its adept in your current build and NM is good for fortifying and the rest of the line seems pretty balanced except the first minor is weak. You have an abundance of regen.

I would stick with WS as I believe its sustained reduction is overall better. I also agree with the poster above that refined toxins is probably your best choice. You have a stun break in your trait and on your utility bar. The poison will help you fight those other super sustain healin builds as well.

I think you are going to have an abundance of boons in this build anyway and most of the boons are shared between you and your pet. I think you overhyped fortifying bond in your mind.

Greatsword/Dual Axe build. Need feedback.

Your weapons are fine. But I think natures magic is a week line for you. For a more defense of line to Druid. Prock ancient seeds with axe 4 and great sword five. Kindly removal is available in the trait line.

For more offense. Take skirmishing. Swapping weapons gets fury Quick draw helps spikes. Swap to tune of evasion for condi removal.

Your builder works well with might. Consider the guard and heal as one combo for burst might

Shoot I just resurrected an old thread ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Scrapper-in-WvW-Zerg-busting-Frontline/first#post5887634 )
and didn’t see this one. Anyway I’ll post my version.

Most people have the right idea and I posted a more detailed response in another thread but I’ll just repeat here.

Don’t get tricked by adaptive armor. I’ve tested this a lot. What will kill you in a zerg is CC and positioning. the 1 second recharge on adaptive is not useful when getting spiked down really fast on the front lines. Also it reduced condi damage, you have lots of health so your ok. what will kill you more is condi duration on soft CC as it puts you out of positions.

The stability on dodge is much more important.

rpfohr.7048

Sorry to resurrect this thread but it was pretty inspirational for me in creating my build. I took a lot of advice from this thread to create this.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncoC1XhdeBGpC0ehlKjScZCgyj+tr79O86KmuC-TFSBQB5RHQWUGowHAQlU/BAXAgzoEkH7PwFlekBgZMA-w

Let me explain some choices.

Utility wise slick shoes is amazing. Basically go in and pop slick shoes and then elixer S. run in and watch the CC obliterate them. Slick shoes also has a stun break in utility bar. The third utility is option but I found I love defense feild because it is a mobile reflector which is very very valuable as you can utilize it and move the zerg. Using it I have been able to break stalemate of reflector fields on bridges and hallways in zerg fights. Other options of course would be elixer B, Elixer U, Elixer Gun etc……

The heal is gyro because you are always moving on the front lines the instant heal is great on gyro in clutch situations and the F1 is really good. its a mobile water field with protection you can get 3 leap finishers out of it on hammer. I like it more due to mobility than healing turret. Healing turret better for Spvp playing on points.

Also I don’t give 2 cents if the gyros die since they just blast an aoe daze. At worst that strips stability in a fight somewhere. At best its a 1 second daze and somebody freaks out poping a stunbreak.

Traits

When your on the front line adaptive armor isn’t that great. The thing that kills you is quick spike. the 1 second recharge on the skill makes it really not worth it. Its better for havoc groups. Also what will kill you more than condi damage is soft CC if you are out of position. This really doesn’t fix that. Stability from perfectly waited so much more useful.

I personally only took one elixer yet I find myself always full of boons from party. Iron blooded was so much better.

Self regulated defenses a must, you will get spiked and you will need a get out card, especially if you are using the slick shoes elixer S as an engage tool like I am.

Absolutely taking mass momentum since I am looking for some additional might and i didn’t take hgh.

Took just enough precision for bunker down. I think this is better in spvp if I go full soldier soon I’ll take MDF though.

Variants

You can go with a more dodge heavy set and take invigorating speed. to get some vigor. With this variant I like runes of evasion because they give you swiftness which will proc the trait. Synergies will with perfectly weighted.

Why is the adept trait so much better. I use to think its because they need to keep the icons unique so their wasn’t room in master as the precision toughness and power ones were all master but each icon is unique now.

But now I’m on a huge loosing streak, it seems people have adapted.

Whats wrong with the matchup system? Can it account for this recent activity in the wake of balance changes? It’s pretty sad to continue to loose game after game.

Been playing pvp for 3 years…always win a match here and loose a match there. had a 52% w/l ratio but that has completely been blown.

I’d also place some blame on damage….its just too high. Tankier builds can’t keep up.

Have you changed your build? Have you changed your style of play? What class are you playing?

I have I’ve changed my build to adapt…tried a couple different but no go.

I was playing engi….truthfully I expected to loose a couple because well I havent played engi much at all ever….but then i went back to my ranger which is my main and continued to get smashed game after game…..And I feel I play a good ranger. win a lot of matchups

Edit Okay finally won a game and going to bed on that……Unusually bad streak. Something must be wrong with the algorithms or the meta is too fluid for pvp to handle it.

Mortar HgH build for wvw roaming

I also used Elixir U at first (but in place of Elixir B rather than toolkit). I found it didn’t give me enough benefit from HgH/achemical tinctures, so I feel Elixir B is really mandatory. Toolkit is nice too because of the gear shield (among other things).

Fair point on the self-regulating defenses. You don’t really need it as you already have Elixir S on your toolbar, but yeah, backpack regen in a Zerker build is not terribly helpful either.

For thieves, I find that spamming AoE around yourself when they stealth is a decent defense. You have jump shot from the rife as well as mortar fields (the one with the blinding field is very useful here). Ranged thieves (e.g. P/D condition) are probably more challenging, since they don’t need to get into close range much against you.

Thanks for the comments!

No thank you for the build advice…..

Decided im rolling with backback regen for now….I’ll get up to 2600 armor with a smidge of pvt to try to get a little more out of it. and I can switch it out easily for pve I guess.

I love this build. For somebody that never played engi or ele before, elixers were really easy to understand.

On your advice I’m adding in Tool Kit. I was using elixer U before to proc throw U for reflect wall in ZvZ

The one thing I couldnt do is use self regulating defenses. I don’t like auto procs that take away my ability to attack. its not like endure pain trait where i can just keep going.

unfortunatly that left me with backpack regenerator in a zerker gear. I guess its not bad if I join the backline of a zerg with mortar.

The one class I have trouble with is thieves and thats only cause im in zerker. This has left me tempted to try the analyze if you hit in stealth trait. but speedy kits just…..cant give it up

It obviously takes BM GS trait and the axe trait because aoe chill with 900 range is pretty good in a zerg…lets not lie.

I’m leaning towards trapper variation as I can still get my fury for weapons swaps and quickdraw gives double axe 3 and maul.

Like it but would change a trait or 2. Run A/D S/T or S/D SB they are just the best weapon set combos you need sword for a little mobility, definatly take quickdraw if you use 1st combo for Spit blade and throw torch. Light on your feet might be better for the 2nd weapon set.

If you go the beastly warden route use drakes. Just do it for F2 taunt into breath. And do youself a favor and take expertise training, this will add an additional second of taunt so your foe eats the full breath, lighting breath will be fantastic. So will Reef drake with confusion. your foe is forced to attack while confused from drake, omg great combo.

If you do stick with your weaponset id recommend swapping poison trap for lighting reflexes, it will help. Don’t forget your trapper runes! those will be awesome. Healing spring is a trap now

None of you are seeing the whole picture, only half.

While your double Maul is on cooldown, you will have another weaponset that can also take advantage of quick draw. Now for wvw or PVE i think for a lot of people this will be Longbow for rapid fire. Double RF will be pretty good in PVE but there will be something better.

PvE the pros will choose sword axe and use the quickdraw to get 2 Axe 4 skills out.

I’d say none is a touch inaccurate…

Your right, none is a bit assertive and elite. I should have said most. There are people who see it but I just havent seen posts about it that take advantage of both weapons for the trait.

If your going to run S/W why would you bother, that trait doesn’t help this weapon set at all so you are not taking full advantage of it. I would just run straight up sword and take damage modifier traits and stay in sword mode.

I am all about taking full advantage of traits and build choices.

Here is one Id run S/A GS on. it takes really good advantage of the weapon swapping and I love that because it is active play.

But is weapon swapping and burst on GS and axe 4 going to be better than the flat 20% + damage I would be loosing by making this build choice and just staying with sword?

Axe 4>sword 1 until CD is at 10-9 seconds>Maul>GS1>Gs1>Maul>GS1>GS1>swoop??>GS1>axe 4 (5 sec CD)>S1>S1>S1>S1>S1>Axe 4>sword 1 until CD is at 10-9>repeat and go to mauls.

You’ll want to stay in GS as little as possible for the maul burst and delay your swapping out of sword axe so your axe 4 is ready when you swap back as it has higher sustained DPS

The jury is still out on if Pred onslaught and steady focus will be better than remorseless and sig mastery

Looks like Druid Reveal this Week!

Ranger? Not unless rangers are allowed to train juvenile Centaurs in HOT…..

Let's Speculate: Role of Druid?

in Ranger

Posted by: rpfohr.7048

rpfohr.7048

Here is what I speculate. And it isn’t anything too shiny ( except for the unities)

How Druid Functions:

The Druid focuses on supporting your allies and your pet by keeping your enemies CC’d and enabling your pets to hit more accurately.

How class mechanic changes:

While playing as a Druid you gain the ability to train and equip additional pets found in the Maguma jungle! No new button functionality is added but these new pets have abilities that take advantage of the new and creative gameplay coming in HoT.

The utility we will get? Venom’s! Harness the power of nature to soft and hard CC as well as conditions like burning and bleeding

But unlike the Venoms for the thief and sharpening stone for the ranger which inflict conditions on your next X attacks, they will work more like Preparations from GW1 which when activated lets your attacks do X effects for the next X seconds to help keep your targeted foe crippled CC’d and overall miserable!

I’ll be the first to say I liked both DH and Reaper more than Chrono. But this may be because I love to duel main a tactical skirmish trap ranger (getting more of this with DH) and a rushdown reckless warrior. Thank you reaper mode!

1) Reaper
2) Dragon Hunter
3) Chronomancer

@andruill and Toxca

Yes Guardian is a heavy armor class but ranger has more base Vitality/ health so I kind of considered that a wash.

And I understand guardians 3 skill can completely negate a rangers. I think this is just this match up though. I was thinking more vs a random class encounter.

In regards to a ranger vs guardian matchup. I’d like to respond once I see our elite specialization but if i have to respond now……
Guardians 3 is a skill shot, move sideways when you use rapid fire. The F3 is on a long cooldown and will be used once in the fight. when you see this used, maybe use pet a little bit. a wolf fear will turn them around and they are open from the backside again. Swap weapons and evade a bit or use some utility skills to help in those couple of seconds. Do something other than standing there and pressing 1 or 2 for a few seconds….

I thought guardian traps are overall better but remember their cooldowns are 2-3X longer. We dont know how the ranger traps will be tweaked either.

As far as longbow skills…….

Rangers 1 skill is better in 1v1, Guardians is better for team fight.

I still think Rangers 2 skill is better, it overall does more damage and the guardians can be blocked or dodged, he is also a sitting duck for .75 seconds until he fires it and the tell is easy. I think Guardians may only have an advantage in 3v3 or 4v4 spvp fights where you dont keep track of everything and he can sit on the outside if he isn’t being targeted.

I like hunters shot more but this is to be determined, I don’t know how easy or hard skill shots will be.

I think both 4 skills are equal. the ranger 4 skill is great and sets up rapid fire. the guardian 4 skill is great area control skill that punishes players for staying in it. Can be great if combined with other hard cc and 20% damage when opponenent is on it.

I think the guadian 5 blows rangers out of water. AOE hard CC over a little damage and soft CC all day.

So Guardian may have a SLIGHT edge in LB (my opinion) but thats before you take into account 1500 range on ranger.

Ranger Traps - Class defining change

in Ranger

rpfohr.7048

Here are my ideas.

Spike Trap – no longer imobilize, now and AOE knock down. increase bleed stacks to 5 and cripple by 2 seconds.

Poision trap – Now applies slow as well as poision.

Fire Trap – Applies 2-3 stacks of burn per pulse instead of 1.

Frost Trap – Pulses damage as well as chill

Build : Remorseless Greatsword

Similar to a build I’m going to run…

6/6/0/0/6
Call of wild, Moment of Clarity, Remorseless
Most Dangerous Game, Spotter, Quick Draw
Resounding timbre, Two Handed Training, Beastly warden

GS + whatever 2nd weapon you want (perhaps SB is light of feet gets moved to master)
Heal as one + Sic Em + Sig of renewal ( need condi clear )+ X + ROA

Pets will help proc Maul set ups so hard its not even funny. Here are Maul combo’s
Pet F2 Taunt > Maul
Weapon Swap > Hit Bash > Maul (combo up again in 10 seconds!)
Pet F2 Taunt > Weapon swap > Maul > Hilt Bash Stun> Maul again! (thanks -66% CD)

Imagine that F2 is a drake F2 and they are stuck running towards your pet!

Now this is a build I look forward to running!

I feel like I need to make a separate thread just to point out how good the placement of GS is but lets run through an example. You see, GS takes really good advantage of pet taunt and guarantees maul.

Build example
6/6/0/0/6
Call of wild, Moment of Clarity, Remorseless
Most Dangerous Game, Spotter, Quick Draw
Resounding timbre, Two Handed Training, Beastly warden

GS + whatever 2nd weapon you want (perhaps SB is light of feet gets moved to master)
Heal as one + Sic Em + Sig of renewal ( need condi clear )+ X + ROA

Pets will help proc Maul set ups so hard its not even funny. Here are Maul combo’s
Pet F2 Taunt > Maul
Weapon Swap > Hit Bash > Maul (combo up again in 10 seconds!)
Pet F2 Taunt > Weapon swap > Maul > Hilt Bash Stun> Maul again! (thanks -66% CD)

Wait……Damage can be op!!!! Imagine that F2 is a drake F2 and they are stuck running towards your pet!
Not op enough? Think of all the fury you will be procing and how much opening strike will refresh!

Now this is a build I look forward to running!

Here are some trait synergies I’m seeing that I’d like to bring into the light.

Oakheart Slave – gives regeneration but also -% damage when having regeneration
Combine with Windborn notes so that call of wild gives regen + Call of wild = perma regen and 5% reduced damage

Protective ward + Lingering Magic = 9.6 protection + 1 dodge every 12 secs is 2.25 prot + lingering magic = 2.7 Prot 9.6 + 2.7 =12.3 = perma prot

Remorseless combos
Weapon swapping for fury or switching pets for fury from call of wild.
Maul combo = hilt bash + moment of clarity + pet swap for fury and OS proc for 25% more damage = mega maul

Beastly warden for taunts + hunters tactics and shortbow pew pew for bleeds

Oakheart slave -5% damage + Resounding timbre ( regen from shouts )

Wilderness knowledge + remorsless

Anyone seeing any more? Right now I’m finding the most synergy with Oakheart salve, I’ll definitely be incorporating that.

Ranger pets deserve taunt

rpfohr.7048

New ranger pets please! And give one of them taunt!

Ultimate bear tank?
A Canine with another great CC.
A new species?

I don’t care but this needs to happen. It would seem to work so well with ranger and its insta flaking for shortbow or just taking pressure off your team and redirecting it to pet.

So…how do you want to see taunt / other new things integrated on a ranger?

A BM would focus on CC to help pets hit.
Can anyone say Bunner thumper hammer?

Or perhaps main hand mace?

Do you keep the standard WASD keybinds?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: rpfohr.7048

rpfohr.7048

Hello! I didn’t really know which forum area to put this…. Do you really need to have Move Left, Move Right, Move Forward bound to the standard WAD keys?

I have only Strafe Left (A), Strafe Right (D), Move Backwards (S), and Auto Run®.

I like the way it works for me, even if I do miss doing the cute asura waddle-spin (holding down the Move Right or Move Left key). I’m wondering if I am missing out by not having the Move Left, Move Right, Move forward keys.

What keybinds do you all use for moving around while fighting? Thanks!

I use ESDF so I can use more keys with my pinki while moving

Keep in mind that Leg Specialist has a five second internal cooldown.

Would you rather know that you an immob available when you use one of your weapon skills that applies cripple OR do you want to have it randomly proc when you crit with any skill/utility while you have that weapon set equipped? Personally, I would prefer the former of these scenarios.

I thought of this too….Especially when thinking about the weapons this would be good with.

Rifle*******for great kiting and kill shot.
Axe******** for landing the eviscerate almost guarantee
Great sword*******so they can’t move away from 100b and burst skill

Rifle and Axe have great cripple skills, especially rifle. Greatsword on the other hand doesn’t the cripple is only on the way back. and not as reliable.

I think Rifle is the correct secondary weapon though because it’s adept trait is the perfect trait to take on your wait to opportunist.

I’ll have to test to confirm, but I am almost gauntanteed that Bladetrail cripples regardless of it going out or coming back.

EDIT: Definitely cripples on first and second hit

Wiki says 2nd hit only but I’ll trust your testing, even so, it’s its on the longest CD. and you can triple your immobilization up time with the sigil.
