Matchmaking seems to start behaving badly once you go on a winning streak of more than 4-5 matches. That’s when suddenly the game decides to put a bunch of <1000 AP people on your team who are clearly playing their first PvP match and pit you against a full guild premade.
Suddenly the already high “annoying BS” levels jump through the roof. Brilliant.
So wait, this happens to other people?
Whenever I go on long winning streaks or go on a streak of really well played matches I eventually end up in some sort of purgatory where I go on a long streak of losing in really bad lopsided games. My losing streaks are usually filled with players that are completely lost. I don’t understand why this happens but it happens with dependable regularity.
I know a dev posted on these forums stating that the PVP algorithm was unfair, so I’m not sure why they’re still moving forward with it.

Maybe winning or losing wasn’t a direct results of YOUR actions but they were a result of someone’s actions.
There is a strategy and a methodology to the rotations of point capping and if you don’t get it that’s kinda on you to figure out. There’s a lot more nuance involved in PVP than running head first into mid over and over again.

This is probably not the place for this but here are some more suggestions for Anet. (That will never get read)
Add Pauses to tournament games and ranked games. Matches being won and loss based on disconnects and crashes is unacceptable. Any reputable tournament would have some sort of pause mechanism. “Restart match if crash happens in the first minute” is the dumbest most wonky workaround for this. Pauses.
Add replays. If you want tournaments and sPVP to be taken seriously then people should be capable of watching this stuff. People will turn these replays into content. Which turn the game into hype. How does this not exist? You are literally losing possible content every second an sPVP match is being played and not auto recorded.
Allow more spectators than 15. People want to watch tournaments. Facilitate this stuff in game. We shouldn’t have to go to Twitch to watch GW2 content. Gw2 should support spectating en masse IN A MAJOR WAY.
Give SOMETHING to people that spectate sponsored tournaments in game. Create some sort of reward system for people watching sponsored tournaments in the game client. If a team actually kills the ancients – everyone watching get a chest. If a team kills the lord – everyone watching get a chest. If a three cap happens everyone gets reward track exp. Something. Anything. Just reward people for using the game client.
Gem store announcer packs. Give us some variety. Some of us have been playing this game mode for a couple of years now. Some announcer variety would be nice. And people would pay gems for them. What if BLU had an announcer pack. Or NOS. Or Teldo. Or me. Make this stuff.
Sponsor more tournaments. Get in the game Anet. If it’s not your sponsoring an official tournament you should be contacting big name sponsors to run it on their own backed by your brand. These weekly tournaments are great but there needs to be more and they need to be bigger.
Make an official reward system for sponsored tournaments – we shouldn’t be getting Mini Llamas and gems as ‘replacement items’ through the mail. Seriously Anet that’s how you’re sending rewards?
Open up the API so unofficial sites can do interesting things with sPVP specific stats. (maybe they do this and no one is building anything)
Give sPVP players saved builds and gear presets. Part of the reason the meta is so stale is that swapping between builds is a giant PAIN POINT. UX this issue.
Host sPVP streamers – popular or brand new on the official GW2 Twitch account. Do this ALL THE TIME. Never have your stream offline. Put some life into the GW2 Twitch world – 300 viewer during peak is pathetic. Do something about it.
These are suggestions that I think could go a long way towards improving GW2s visibility and the overall quality of life for it’s players.

I’m not even surprised anymore how such ignorance and entitlement can warrant such a mundane topic for discussion.
Do you really not see an issue with a company selling solutions to artificially imposed problems? It may not be a problem for you, but surely there are droves of players who acted to buy the pass — it begets more content like this on the gem store, and that’s not good for any of us in the player base.
I don’t. There’s no subscription fee. The developers and employees of ArenaNet have the right to monetize the game in any way they see fit.
Is it worth $12.50 to you to not have to see a bunch of loading screens? No? Cool, then keep playing the game without a sub. Yes. Cool, then buy the airship pass.

This post is not about certain skills being overpowered or dominating combat. This post is about the non-existence of certain utilities and elites for some classes in underwater combat.
Elites:
Warriors have 2 Elites that work underwater.
Mesmers have 2 Elites that work underwater.
Rangers have 2 Elites that work underwater.
Engineers have 2 Elites that work underwater.
Necromancers have 1 Elite that works underwater.
Guardians have 1 Elite that works underwater.
Thieves have 1 Elite that works underwater.
Elementalists 1 Elite that works underwater. (water specific?)
In sPVP this severely cripples teams and players on the Raid on the Capricorn map. In PVE this can be a major annoyance, especially for solo players attempting to get map completion. In WVW this can be a minor annoyance.
I’m just curious as to what the logic was behind the decision making here. Is it a programmatic issue with making certain elites work underwater? For instance with the Mesmer class are Moas not animated to swim? Or is it a balance issue? In the instance of Warriors are we to believe Rampage is OP underwater?
What was the design rule that ultimately lead to certain classes having an unbalanced amount of options vs other classes?
If we wanted we could count how many Utility skills have been removed from underwater combat for each class.
Utilities:
Guardian: 2 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Warrior: 4 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Mesmer: 5 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Engineer: 6 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Ranger: 6 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Necromancer: 7 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Elementalist: 8 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Thief: 10 Utilities do not work in underwater combat.
Going off of the numbers of abilities here;
Elementalists lose 11 total abilities underwater (3 elites & 8 utilities)
Thieves lose 12 total abilities underwater (2 elites & 10 utilities)
So what is the actual reasoning here? Is it a ground targeting issue when underwater? Then how are they making Time Warp work and why isn’t that applied to other targeted skills as well? I understand traps may cause an issue and that’s why both Rangers and Thieves lose them but it seems that theres a some inconsistencies in what is or isn’t allowed. (For instance Battering Ram works but Kick doesn’t.)
Is it an animation issue? Do the Thieves Guild not know how to swim?
Anyway, I’m not claiming to be right here, I’m just curious as to the reasoning and logic behind design choices made in underwater combat seemingly cripples certain professions more than others.

What? I never said it was the only problem. It’s a fairly significant problem because a game’s watchability will determine viewers and if a game is going to be an eSport, it needs viewers.

Obviously balance issues are hindering the games playability but that issues is being beaten into the ground by the players. I’m talking from a viewer perspective which both issues are not mutually exclusive.

Yes but you have to log in and out and it’s not chosen on the fly, which does not make for exciting spectating. Watching a guy log out and log in to a new character is boring from a spectator’s point of view. The current system doesn’t even allow for the diversity of TF2 which allows for class switching after death.
And yes you can retrait a new build and it does take a few minutes which is entirely too long for an audience to sit through. People aren’t and don’t sit through a guy changing traits between matches. It’s boring.
Why not offer loadouts for each class? Why not allow a person to go Guardian one match and offer the ability to quickly switch to Necromancer the next round? What exactly are the benefits of a more restrictive system, especially from an audience perspective?

I’m just touching on one issue that I think prevents GW2 from being taken seriously as a competitive game in the eSports world.
I don’t understand why sPVP locks players into one class per character.
Other popular eSports allows for players to choose different loadouts/heros/classes prior to the start and sometimes during a match depending on what is needed and based on what the opponent is doing. I understand you can do this by logging in another character but I just don’t think that’s the best UX for an eSport.
I feel like match making could be more dynamic is lineups were chosen based on which teams were facing which teams. Dota even allows teams to ban heros based on how well the team they’re facing plays that hero. Obviously the lack of classes in GW2 compared to heros in Dota would make this difficult but I just feel like locking players into 1 class in sPVP is limiting.
If this sPVP in GW2 is going to become an “esport” then all aspects of it need to be competitive not just the game play. Team lineup, class composition, itemization and spec should all be something players have the opportunity to choose during competitive play. It can’t just be bunker to 500 and win.
There’s no drama in that and if Arenanet wants 50,000 – 100,000 viewers on Twitch then they need to figure out how to make the spectator game more dramatic and all aspects of the game competitive.

I don’t really think it’s that noticeable. People can strage, so what, you can spam it at absolutely no cost. It was nicer that when they were heat seeking its not game breaking that they aren’t.

Hey all
i’m new to sPVP and want to get into tPVP and looking for a viable Thief build
from what i gather thiefs in sPVP are there to roam and kill the people taking the base being defended by the bunker.. we go in kill and head to next base
so i gather i should go a 30/30/10 or something for D/D
but is D/D still any good for sPvP?, i come across alot of D/P thief, so still not sure what to use
Any tips or help would be great thanks
Everything depends on play style. You can’t have other people tell you what the best spec because it’s not the same for everyone. A lot of things like reaction time, aggressiveness and experience come into play. Just try them all.
I prefer to run P/D but mostly main Shortbow because it has the utility to negate most glass cannon builds.

very nice D/P skills there… so thats the difference between average thieves vs pro thieves. average thieves having hard times to cope up in WvW or PvP but pro moves by pro thieves is super OP. so the 4secs revealed buff is just fine i think…. make it 3secs againt and it wud be too powerful!!…. so thieves crying for 4secs revealed buff.. deal with it!! discover and master the OPness of thieves!
4 secs is fine in wvwv and spvp, since in that 1 second gap you can blind or dodge
the majority only clamours for 4 secs reveal in PvE, which disrupts their rotation for DPS in dungeons,
but arena net says. they gonna make it to 3secs again in WvW and PvE… Heart of the mist it will stay 4secs. but 4secs is fine. to lessen thief users population lol

The difference between Mag’s zerg and Yak’s zerg is that Maguuma built a community based on discipline, coordination and skill PRIOR to having superior numbers. Yaks has actively recruited anyone that will transfer since transfers existed.
Maguuma is the one and only server to not actively recruit and have instead built a community that revolves around talent and have pulled in transfers because people want a high quality WVW experience. Every other server in every other tier has no quality control and just wants numbers.
That’s what separates Maguuma from literally every other server in the game. Yeah we have superior numbers now but we got them from in game skill, not forum hording players.

I’m going to call BS on this as well. This may be how your guild functions, but not the server as a whole. I know many players who exclusively WvW and none of them would take someone’s “order” to do “map duty” seriously. This is not military, nor will it ever be, since there is no way to enforce this hierarchy on the players or discipline them should they choose to not do as asked.
You would be surprised what people are suddenly willing to do when JerkJerk shows up on their doorstep. I’m not saying he’s ex-CIA because that would assume you’re allowed to leave the CIA.

Why do people think that the enemy won’t react when you put up swords…? Then when they do, oh it has to be a spy! It’s like people don’t get that wiping groups at the lord is the greatest dream crusher there is.
Clear siege, watch entrances/exits, call out scouts, and watch your butts, and you’re least likely to get jumped.
Because zergs have been showing up before swords go up….in absolutely random locations. ive tested it out in our TS personally, when we give out info in party only or give out conflicting info in TS we’ve been significantly more successful. Its clear someone is feeding info….not that i really care personally, Ive found ways around it.
Just to give you a little insight into the structure of WVW on Maguuma. We have a tiered system to determine who is tasked with offense, defense, roaming, commanding zergs, commanding strike forces, etc its all very organized thanks to a couple of ex-Seal GOONs. If you transfer over you can take a look at the Organization Structure and Culture document on the public file server.
Anyway….
Our server initiates are tasked to only watch the map and report what’s happening in Mumble the instant they suspect anything. If you’re new to the server and do not prove your fighting abilities or if you mess up in front of JerkJerk you get assigned map duty for a week.
It’s not so bad, Rebel Daughter worked his way up from map duty. Bunzy was on map duty for a long time and now look at him. I personally have never had map duty but that’s because I’m ex-military with 4 tours under my belt.

Pretty much this. We use gliko to help make sure the matches end up being somewhat competitive, but no systems can really predict and react immediately to constantly changing populations.
You guys could pay attention to your community and see when a zerg of 500 people switch to a tier 8 server that begins winning by 200,000 points. It’s not secret or mystery when this happens. When something like that happens you could manually move them up a couple of tiers. Or your CS team could decide that mass xfers to lower pop servers is unintended game play and ban those guilds for abusing the Tier. Who knows.

Let’s put it this way. BP knocked down an East and West wall at their Garrison at 5AM ET this morning. After being held off for about an hour they finally got to the inner gate and were promptly wiped. They continued to throw themselves at the East hole in the wall while not a single person went through the West hole. They matched or outnumbered our numbers.
A group of 5 people took their NW tower while there was still a huge hole in the East and West walls.
We trebbed down NE tower and took it, while there were still huge holes in both walls.
No one from DR attempted to take back NW tower, none of you came to your own Garrison with huge holes in the walls while we were hanging out at NE tower. We left 1 person in a golem suit to defend the Garrison. No one was defending the tower.
Its not that you guys are outnumbered by a superior zerg, you’re just out played by a superior population. You can blame it on numbers and sometimes you will be right. Other times there’s a huge hole in the west wall and instead your team is content on feeding bags to the enemy.

No, it is actually numbers this week. Switch to DR and get chased by literally 50+ Maguuma around the map for a couple of hours in MBL and you might have a different viewpoint. Either that or you are just trolling again. :P
You could try do what OG does and go around killing zergs.
This is what happened the last time [OG] tried to kill a zerg. Funny part is you had your own zerg behind you, but you decided to go and kill underleveled people coming out of our Citadel instead. As you may be aware, I do not appreciate this, and your cronies paid the price of not getting out soon enough.
We don’t kill zergs with two people, it looks like you needed a zerg to kill them both.
Hmm no, I if you carefully read my post you will see that these OG guys were part of their own zerg. We were fighting over the tower. Besides, there were 5-6 OG guys there, not 2. The others ran when they saw my tag I guess.

Sword Blades aka “Captain Legendary” is the PRO warrior with sunrise. Our core people are not glassy just to clairify for you.

The builds that I have run into have been pretty glassy. Maybe I haven’t seen your core group yet but those that I have run into have been. I was giving props, you don’t normally see a group of glass cannons holding a Supply against bigger numbers. Usually doesn’t work out that well.

That’s not a bug, and it’s not exploiting. The team’s spawn has to end somewhere, and they are invulnerable in their spawn. Simply fall back to the camp and kick the crap out of them when they push again.

No way. Fights in jump puzzles are fun. Booting people back into the arena after they hit the last jump is what keeps me paying my monthly subscription (to GOONs).
Maguuma should be very scared after this match. What it showed was that your pugs are just as susceptible, if not even more susceptible, to being de-motivized and quitting than Ehmry Bays. Here is why:
*It took Ehmry Bay at least a day to really have people start not showing up due to score. It only took a few hours for the same to occur on Maguuma. So congrats on the win, but be very worried if you are to start losing again.
note: Before some genius tries to make this argument, no, there is a difference between people not showing up and not having people available to show up (early morning Ehmry Bay). Well, at least over the last weekend, hi KISS.

Insinuating that Maguuma has some huge night capping force is laughable. Yes, your server did fairly well while our server was at work on Friday or out on Friday night.
You guys can come up with more excuses or you can get in game and contribute badges to Maguuma. Perhaps some of you could benefit from transferring over to Maguuma, we’re getting more badges than we know what to do with!
With that said, Maguuma, I wouldn’t ignore Eredon for Ehmry. As of current, they’re taking back their borderlands from you while you’re doing all you can to keep Ehmry out of the other three.

Jumping puzzle strategy made me laugh. Pack 20-40 Maguuma into the puzzle while your realm goes down burning… Good strategy.
As for DH players… yes… the majority of the WvW players have taken a holiday from WvW last night and before to enjoy the Seasonal Event currently going on. This Match has been effortless since Sunday. DH players were confident that Maguuma would not catch up and they did not. And now it is impossible to lose; so people are spending a better time doing the seasonal event.
As for Wads, I am aware you are Maguuma. I know you spend all your time in the jump puzzle. I am curious though, how do you manage to target stealthed players, and how you can target people through walls/terrain in which you have no possible Line of Sight. How, as a mesmer, you seem to move at the speed of a thief when you have no speed buff. And I could have sworn I saw you, while I had Mystic Fountain Stealth, teleporting to an upper level of the puzzle without a portal. I was sure to stay a fair distance from you however, because I know you can see stealthed player so I was at the edge of clipping when I saw this super jump of yours.
