People diss necromancers because they cannot disengage away like a coward, but in the grand scheme of things this means nothing. Necros are pretty much strong in any context of wvw outside of solo that actually matters.
People are running under the false assumption of “not being stomped” = winning, which is generally nonsense in any pvp mode because actually killing players is only part of the thing. The game was never balanced around people running away forever in a infinite field— there’s a reason why permastealth sucks in spvp.
If a necro prevents you from taking a target, then you have failed and they won, but that 2/0/6/0/6 thief over there thinks he’s so pro because he ran away and that necro is a noob for losing a 1v4 fight.
WvW is a place where people brag about running away in fights that barely matter. That’s just silly. If that’s the only place where a class sucks, I could care less.
And yes, I roam on many things from thief to necro and will die. Sometimes I try to avoid it, but it’s not like repairs cost anything.

I always thought talks about animal abuse and violence in games were kinda silly, and I kill deer without blinking an eye because I hate deer and how stupid they are touching my AOEs and then blaming me. But then I remember doing this heart, and I’m like “dude, that’s totally messed up!”
I don’t even try to kill the angry adult dolyak these days.
It’s not enough for me to contact PETA and I still lament the lack of a meat pizza in the game, but :O It’s an issue of consistency for me. Hearts are like mostly doing community service and cleaning up cow dung or some kitten or some goody goody crap, and then… this!
Although ironically, I hate being the goody goody hero too and I have the yakslapper title so I actually do like killing dolyaks, so…. I think it’s a matter of the game in general portraying your character as a goody two shoes. I wouldn’t mind more kittenish things if the story allowed for it more and portrayed it as such.

The set of achievements is very poor and seems like a step backwards.
I far preferred the halloween dailies where they could be used to help you do the meta. This feels like more of a chore.
And as for the bell choir, always focus on getting notes right, rather than trying to be perfect. You get penalized for each wrong press but if you make sure to only get right ones, you will outheal the missnotes, until the later songs. In other words, it’s possible to only focus on several notes if you really can’t do it (I suggest mostly paying attention to 1-4)— you can get less than half of them right but “survive” long enough to get the daily.

Achievements are a system in the game to help gauge what a player has accomplished in the game. They are awarded for completing various tasks spanning all game types; PvE, PvP, and WvW.
I do not think doing the same dozen tasks repeatedly should account for the grand majority of such a score. In fact, I think it makes it a joke. The cap is a compromise between farmability and having some semblance of meaning.
Furthermore, “veteran” players have already had the opportunity to get more AP from festivals and events. They’ve also have had more chance to be handed daily login rewards that reward you for basically existing.
I log on to get 2 gold and some extra materials. That is enough value in and of itself, if not too much compared to effort.
OP’s problem is easily solved by adding more WvW achievements, because as is they are a terrible effort:reward ratio. And that’s with adjustments.

It’s quite silly since it’s arguably whether or not the mists count as part of the “world”. Then again it’s just as annoying to me as having to do pve to get better stats for wvw. >.>
Some will argue to you that wvw is actually not pvp, and they’d have a point (most are not capable of fighting another player though sometimes they may trample enemy players while in a zerg), but I doubt that really means anything to you either.
Personally, I am not fond of it either to have pve-only people who don’t want to be in here with us, as I would only enjoy fighting along side folks who want to crack some skulls and not just head off to that vista. It’s a game; we’re supposed to have fun, and I’d rather do content with people who want to enjoy it as opposed to some dreadful chore/suicide mission.
But yea… I guess they want you to sample all of the game’s content to count as exploring. But exploring the other side’s keep…?
And yes, the fact that the BLs are identical does not make it fun to explore either.
Good thing my server’s doing good this week… might be time. >.> Then again I won’t be getting 100% any time soon since the idea of exploring those trivial 1-30 zones doesn’t interest me either. I’ve already done all the zones above 30 anyways, so it’s not like I’m not capable of it.

I think a thing everybody here has not on the table yet, is the cost of Scribing paid in Badges. That’s where most of my Badge supply went the past months.
Not counting the Tavern upgrades, you need around 300 Badges of Tribute to unlock all upgrades in the War Room. That translates to 9000 Badges of Tribute.
Each Tactic or Improvement you create costs 1-2 Tribute Badges.
Each Mist Statue decoration cost 100 Tribute Badges (= 3000 Badges of Honor !!!)Yes, we need some genera increase in Badges or at least a closer look at the Provisions Master ability, which does not increase the amount of my Badges I get a lot (?).
I’m a bit confused about this post. It takes 300 badges of tribute, so 9000 (/breaks glass) badges of honor are needed right? And each decoration is 100 tribute badges meaning 3000 Boh?
If it’s only 400 BoT total, then consider buying them on the TP. It would amount to around 130 gold and more reliable than attempting to farm badges.
That being said, the badge drop rate is highly unreliable.
What I read from some of these posts is anet continues to support, encourage, and drive home the blob meta by nuking drop rates for anything else and increasing siege costs so only blob fights are “affordable”.
Anet is thinking about introducing new siege and yet is not fixing the core problem, thus basically guaranteeing their fail in a follow up poll.
At least now I have a clearer view on what killed the WvW guild I have fun with each week. It is not economical to be a small havoc guild. And since we hate the blob meta… No badge income.
Thanks, anet.
This is an old thread. Superior siege only requires heroics, not badges anymore. Regular siege only is around 70c on the TP leaving badges only to really get disablers, traps, and badges of tribute.

The open world is too easy and not rewarding enough, leaving most of options of acquiring stuff to instances and laurel grinding, stuff that isn’t very casual friendly. The main source of challenge is the champion which has a terrible reward vs time spent ratio. So it can feel tedious.
The other problem is that dynamic events do not fire fast enough in most zones; they also do not get marked well on the map (only gets marked if you are closed). There needs to be an option to mark all events on your current map lest there be a lot of boring downtime.

I can see your point. Though I really don’t like it when I dominate a thread and then it proceeds to get nightcapped or buried by the next day. Well, the guild hall seems to have taken account that people would be farming pve for them, which would prove to be a nightmare in WvW.
People are deliberately pricing it high despite there being so many because they know there are those that want it now. You shouldn’t be buying flax seeds for 5s30c a piece— the price is really more like 5s if you match the highest buyer. But even buying it at that price is only like a wait of an hour or two if even, so does it have to be that price of which you buy it at? And if you think about it, why wouldn’t they? You’re just going to have to wait in line until those people who are rushing it stop placing those high buy orders. These people absolutely don’t care about anything but getting it first, and they will take you down with them, even if it makes 0 sense. So what’s the point in playing that kind of game with them?

But people want to play the way they want…meaning doing the absolutely minimum they can to get the absolute best pay off. What’s the point of even playing at all.
Nonsense.
“Playing the way you want” refers to if you don’t like a certain area or game mode, and you can play somewhere else and still get payoff elsewhere, assuming similar difficulty. Obviously killing ambient creatures all day shouldn’t be rewarded, but it’s not so black and white.
People only do the absolute minimum they want for something that isn’t fun. If the content involved was absolutely engaging, then the gameplay itself is the payoff. And even if they did, people play this game for many reasons, such as killing free time. To some of us, there’s a distinction between exploring the game’s content and having donkeys chase carrots. And guess which of these tends to get the “minimum effort done”.
Also, there are many degrees between unattainable and having it handed to you. Obviously such distinctions are arbitrary and are often based to individual situations.
Of course, I play WvW of which the payoff is pretty much a non-factor but that’s what I want to do. Have you considered that in-game rewards aren’t balanced across the many aspects of it, and this doesn’t apply to everyone?

For a lesson in how to design a loot system, I would suggest trying D3 ROS. Vanilla D3 was the worst possible way to misunderstand the ARPG formula, but that is corrected, massively, with ROS. Just level a character in ROS and experience loot that is appropriate and rewarding. Most games get this fairly right, but GW2 and vanilla D3 are examples of games that are far off the mark.
It’s not completely fair to compare it to the Diablo series, especially Diablo 3 in which game progression is the same as gear progression, because the loot system is designed to reward you with massive boosts in power. It’s rewarding because you can see the drastic difference as your character levels and gets better gear. Vanilla D3 failed because the progression was too steep though of all honesty was fine until inferno mode until Blizzard decided the real money TP was a good idea.
This is also a key reason why Gw2 loot seems unrewarding, because the difference between ascended gear and weaker gear isn’t that much. With only several tiers of equipment, you’re obviously not going to get much stronger regardless of what drops. It’s no wonder why ascended crafting gets a lot of bashing— it’s almost a waste of time.
However, in terms of Gw2’s progression for aesthetics, I would still say the drop system is bad, and comparable to Vanilla D3 in being able to acquiring them through play— you’re better off buying it off the TP or what not. Much like Vanilla D3, it is much easier to farm gold and then buy stuff. There’s a horrific lack of in-between skins; they’re either really trivial or worthless or they’re rare and impossible to find— well, the way I see it most of the skins I could think of getting that have a unique look are in the gem store.
The other reason why Diablo loot worked, is that usually the harder content you tried, the better loot you got. This is something Gw2 could really look at.

Poultry and Leek soup. Yea, I’m cheap, sue me.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Same…. I guess xD
But that’s nothing unusual. If it’s not EOTM or pvdoor, I don’t gain more than 2-3 levels an hour even on an active day since the bulk of wxp comes from captures. With dailies no longer giving drops or boosts, I expect it to be even slower. I think I’ve earned around 800 ranks since HoT release, going by a post I’ve made around that time. (That means all that work is worth a paltry 250 gold about) So 800 ranks over 9 months would probably be reduced to 600 ranks over 9 months. That means I might reach Diamond in about 5 years. One mitigating factor is that my play time in the midst of the desert borderlands dropped really low though.
Happy grinding I guess.
As for the subject of gold, there’s literally about three things even someone that does 80% WvW could do. 100% WvW’ers that go eww PvE, can still do two. Since the April patch, I’ve done exactly 1 DS meta (and it was terrible), a couple of AB/TD runs, and some random VB. 0 dungeons/fractals, never liked those things. I think 1 raid where I got carried by guildies through the first boss though I’m not really sure when that happened before or after April.
Ironically, with the new changes which allows you to buy HoT things with heroics, I found that my time in pve was redundant because I don’t need those currencies anymore. Maybe I should be salty and demand refunds and stuff; that’s the popular thing to do when things change.

However, I will say that there is too much garbage on the right side of the screen and I can’t believe anyone on the team hasn’t realized how awful it is when even the event you are doing gets minimized. Then again, this UI is one of the worst parts of the game, for sure.

If you get upset at people using swear words, you need to grow a set and get a grip on reality (though I understand if people are dropping the F bomb every second word, that gets tedious).
My 2 cents. I have a 3 year old who sleeps in the room next to the computer room. I usually play when he’s sleeping or almost asleep and it’s mom’s night for the bedtime stories. However, I like to be able to hear when kiddo cries, gets up and starts walking the hallway, etc. so the headphones are not an option. And I’m not about to play most TS chats on my speakers due to the language if wife or kiddo can hear. I got balls – I got ‘em and I’ve put them to good use already so that’s not the answer.
So yeah, different people have different situations. If you’re running a zerg and have a few people not in TS it’s not going to ruin effectiveness under a good comm who pays attention to the map.
p.s. case in point, kiddo just woke up as I typed this. he went back to sleep soon after but yeah, the parents get it
I actually do think that using coarse language is a reason for people not to get in TS, actually and it has nothing to do with developing body parts but more of not wanting to associate with juvenile edgelords that lack manners. If for whatever reason people offend your beliefs, you are definitely free to not have to deal with them and sometimes if I feel the speech is too offensive, I just don’t bother.
It’s fine to say whatever when you’re with your friends or guildies, but if you’re opening a public run, then I think it’d help to watch these things to whatever extent of audience you want. Social awareness and all.
And I cuss a lot myself in-game, on ts, and in real life, and so do a lot of the people I run with. Sometimes the F word is great for emphasis such as when you’re about to go down or when you have 396 supply but both rams are still incomplete. Censorship filters I feel do impede my posting style. And yea, our chat is a bit politically incorrect but that doesn’t mean everyone has to accept that or it makes us especially edgy or grown up. I’m generally more offended by stupidity than words though. =p

So much noise. All this emotional hubdub over past wrongs is nonsense.
The most important things are:
1. It rewards players for playing the actual game.

Umm, it doesn’t make any sense for a -cooldown/+duration trait to be made baseline, because that’s just a straight up buff. Making ground targeted consecrations baseline makes sanctuary and hallowed ground a lot more useful.
Regarding the issue they could have an option for “cast at player location” unless you hold the button down which will make it the same as fast target. Of course, you’ll be at a disadvantage against anyone that is fast enough to cast it where they want but it doesn’t matter at this point.

I don’t mind a grind. I do think one should be rewarded for playing the game more, if they devoted the time to it.
However, I want to pick my path, not what Arenanet dictates. Giving 2 choices, of one which is incredibly unreasonable and the other choice gets shut off due to the guilds I join just leads to a slow boring grind that isn’t fun. That’s just an illusion of choice. It would be like presenting me with 2 roads to get to the same place but one of them is broken down and requires necessarily long roundabout ways to get there.
Sure, I could bandwagon on a large guild just to get it. Except that kinda defeats the purpose of being in a guild.
Arenanet would do well to present new content. However, please don’t shove your new gimmicks down our throats while making it exclusive to your new blasted item tier. Sure there’s the illusion of “optional” but as more and more ascended pieces get introduced, it’s just going to finish the gate that will lock people out. Ascended gear is truly a plague atm.
