I was able to work on the drinks, plus the Essence of Mischief, Essence of Snowfall and the Magnanimous Obsidian Crystal at other times this year. I’ll repeat putting in Buyer Orders is better on your cash flow situation, and drinks are more expensive off-season.
Only the blueprint, JP, Snowball Mayhem, Toypocalypse, Claw of Jormag and Bell Choir have to be done in the Wintersday festival period.
I’ll be inviting Trahearne over for a nice cup of tea and a sit down. I’ll even provide cake.
I have to admit, after I got to the “charr on motorbikes” bit, I didn’t really see anything else. Mostly because I couldn’t really see anything else.
Me too. Now I want Rox to star as a charr dissatisfied with her warband in a film called “The Charr on a Motorcycle”. I’m sure she can source a blonde wig from Kasmeer.
AKA ‘Furred Under Leather’. With a little sidecar for Frostbite.
Oh, Frostbite! In a sidecar! Too adorable! XD
Whereas I agree there’d be clipping issues, long hairs from the top of the head of the men would make me happy. The beard, not a thing for me. But fun for others so should be there in full hirsute glory!
You might want to take a look at the T3 asuran cultural weapons (unlike cultural armour, anyone can use the weapons). Although not fairylike particularly, they have a pinkish look to them (with gold), and have pink orbs which float down when you run. I have the GS, sword and focus on my asuran mesmer (and note the pink quaggan backpack!):

The point that the original post made was the change in the play of GW2 making jumping a prerequisite to continue with the main story and play.
This is a valid point.
I agree with your post in terms of how people treat others. There’s a whole heap of people who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, but it’s one of those times that I’d say just leave it – you won’t convince them, sadly – and let karma and time deal with it.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from these forums, it’s semantics are everything. Just one word, one phrase, and regardless of intention, a post can be wiped from the slate as “lies”, “whining”, “kitten”. I actually wrote “kitten” there. It’s a fallacy of thought, of course, but it derails a thread no end and serves a cruel purpose. The onus is on any poster to make themselves as clear as they can, but not everyone has the skill, and from what we’ve seen, there is a dearth of forgiving, empathetic thinking. This is very sad, but I hope time will treat those who lack well and they evolve into kinder-thinking individuals.
I think the problem of semantics lies in the word “jumping” being tagged to the aspect crystal mechanics – they’re technically not the same. That’s not to say the mechanics don’t involve jumping – patently, they do – but using “jumping” as the barrier to story isn’t explicit. A lot of people may comprehend the meaning when it’s used in this context, however there’s people who clearly disagree and can use this as a (fair) counter-argument, even if there’s a lot to be desired in delivery. Irrespective, the timeout on the crystals was enough that I ended up having to do a smidge of jumping anyway.
I think the aspect mechanics can be fun, but they shouldn’t be used on a timer – unless you’re going after achievements, perhaps. Or at least, they should stack and have a longer timer, to allow for some thought ahead of action. And they shouldn’t be necessary just for the story scenes, no. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be used for it either, but an alternative should be available or a more robust aspect system which is in sync. with other bundle mechanics. Finally, jumping should never get in the way of story but it, if memory serves, never has. If it has, come with me and I’ll pop a nice mesmer portal!

I’ve bearbowed in a dungeon and lived to tell the tale, although it was a long time ago now (picked the party up off the floor a few times). Yet whilst I understood bear wasn’t appropriate in the dungeon, I’d argue the bow has its place, just not necessarily with PBS. So I changed my ways to include the sword and different, more appropriate pets. But what bugged me most in the end was the pet: if I have to have it passive at my side so it doesn’t go all kamikaze, then I’m not contributing 100%, regardless of what weapon I want to use. This is dumb. This is also not the player’s fault: it’s an inherent design flaw. We should have the ability to stow our dumb furball/scaleballs/featherballs/ickyfartoomanylegsandeyesballs and retain full DPS. That in itself would go a long way to fix ranger woes.
So I changed my main from the ranger to a mesmer, and life’s kinder now (even though clones can suffer from playing with the AI Idiot Ball too).
Still, "badness" isn’t limited to rangers. I enjoyed this:

I thought this was incredibly kitten my first try as well – I got frustrated and quit that time); the constant AoE was a bit too much. Moved a couple of traits around, not sure if that made much of a difference, except that it allowed me to kill the add-ons a little bit faster. Not very much but still. But anyway I have a tip for those who are having serious trouble with this:
The most important thing during my second try was that I found a spot that was relatively safe for fighting the add-ons without worrying too much about the dragon’s AoE (save the full chamber blast and ONE attack, but the latter only if you were closer to the center of the chamber), and attack the add-ons at range. I mean, so much of the fight IS about avoiding the AoE and killing stuff simultaneously that it’s best to find a spot where most of the AoE doesn’t reach.
I used the opposite end of the chamber from the Avatar of the Pale Tree, North-West corner of the chamber. Like a narrow-ish ramp with a dead end? Had to come out for some add-ons that are farther back, but it’s easier to deal with those when you have the other ones cleared out. Not quite as much stuff blasting your way.
Still died twice but that’s because I suck royally sometimes, and also lag. I could have sworn I was out of the danger zones but still got blasted by the attacks. Ehh.
Anyway: position yourself out of the harm’s way and it’ll be a lot easier to deal with!
This is pretty much what I did in the Barradin statue fight as well, come to think of it.
You’re right about that, for sure – find the best spot for lurking and retreating to tends to be something I like to do – I think I likely failed to find the best spot in my dragon fight, although I did have a couple of places that seemed to work. But I experienced that bit where you get hit even if you think you’re out of the danger spots. I think I might give this another go and see if I can’t fine-tune it – because despite being awful at it, I think I actually had some fun.
Now if I can get the camera to work for me, I’ll be laughing!
With all due respect, that is something I’m wondering about as well. Scarlet seems very eager to throw her alliances at her enemies, and let them die by the thousands. So why do they continue to work for her? Why don’t they betray her, or fight each other? Why don’t the Krait attack the Aetherblades or Molten Alliance? It kind of stretches the believability of the story.
Prepare for epic glibness!
… they do it because it’s in the script. And they have self-esteem issues. And maybe the krait involved know more than we do. And they mostly come at night. Mostly.
:( I’m so sorry!
__________
In (written) entertainment, sometimes things appear overlooked, or not explicitly concentrated on. If taking time out to explain it would remove the pacing, and/or get in the way of the story, then it should be nipped in the bud swiftly. And sometimes, way down the line, those things you thought were just pointless filler, ridiculous and nonsensical, or those things you thought never got tied up satisfactorily, actually will come back to bite you in the backside. There can still be payoff!
In GW2, we have a few angles of the story at any time: chiefly whatever we make of it (or what we imagine our own characters make of it), and what the NPCs make of it. Occasionally our antagonist(s) may give us something, but it won’t be the whole story of them. That’s for the pre-death monologue* at the very least, right? ( )
Anyway, the NPCs have told us what they know. Perhaps that’s all they’ll ever know. It’s not like they’d be getting hold of a krait and asking it nicely (unless they have already and I missed it, for shame). Not that I think we’d ever really find anything deeper than what’s been given. I also think lore changes aren’t the end of the world. People can be very wrong about what they thought was right at the time. When it feels like a plot device, well…
…A lot of things may well be crafted as they are from a gameplay standpoint. Time constraints and things such as whatever character models are available for modification are examples of this. Why the constraints are there is a different thread somewhere else.
Also, the writers may want the pertinent details close to their chests for future use.
I’m on the fence for this right at the moment, truth be told. Lore is still important to me (I already mentioned earlier I use it as a foundation for my imagination within the world), but I’m reserving total judgement for the end times. Fear my apocalyptic wrath! (or apoplectic is really more like it if my twigs have to be dragon minions.)
More options for all are great!

That guy rocks. I want his stuff for my human male and I don’t care who knows it!.
I think it means we’ll have to take the long way around. :/
I think kitten has a kitten. Kittens become very hard to understand when most of the kittens are replaced by kitten kittens. This is also patronizing kitten kittens. This way of kitten is also ignorant of how kitten use kitten. Most of the real kittens are kittens that get into kitten and cause you to become upset subtly.
This is a perfect example as to why GW2 Forum Mad Libs would never become popular.

Mad Kittens FTW!
i have mine zoomed all the way out. you could have it zoomed in a tiny bit, and still have it zoomed out pretty far. Just gotta find the balance for it. Also look at the animations and stuff that the boss is doing, or what the mobs are doing. If you are having trouble fighting the vines in a group, try and lure one away and fight it solo. Also bring A LOT of condition cleanse.
And remember to follow the advice of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDfu124a78M
You know, it wasn’t so much of a problem fighting the things as much as it was not actually seeing what I was doing because of walls (making it a little harder to see telegraphs on occasion). Some of it was just plain bad on my part, regardless, too, and that’s okay. Still, like I said in my other post just now, I’ll likely have another go and see if I can get the camera in a better spot so that doesn’t happen.
Thanks for your response there!
I’d love to be able to jump as a quaggan.
Mind, I’m actually thinking of abandoning that dream to set up a Quaggan Tonic Shop. I’ll choose to set up somewhere with a lucrative air, and await the coppers rolling in. Maybe I’ll even try for a Quaggan Day or festival license, set up a marquee with cake and tea and a pool inside. Plus there’ll be a collection tin for all disaffected homeless quaggans, constantly forced to go to new places because dragons. Please donate generously!
I know exactly what you mean, OP. I did my own post a little while ago along the lines of interaction with others, although perhaps I’m solo for other reasons.
Still, were you EU, I’d happily come along with you to do stuff you needed, and wouldn’t care how many questions you asked about anything, I’d still do my best to answer.
I hope you get the game experience you want, and I wish you luck with it!
It’s the Edina Monsoon of GW2.

Hello! Friendly neighbourhood photosensitive epileptic here (although there could be more of us). *waves*
Cheers for the heads up, OP. I was considering giving this part of the update a run through today (did the story last night), but will give it a miss. I’ll get my achievements elsewhere.
And believe it or not, yes! Us PSE types can play games. And as Aedelric says, modern flat screen monitors have helped with this (the old school type was death on a desk, same for TVs). But it is why I have bother sometimes noticing when things are occuring in fights, such as at the notorious Temple of Dwayna, and why bouncing camera angles aren’t always so fun (think jumping puzzles). The marionette was also a bucketful of laughs.
You know what’s worse? Sunlight. I kid you not. Now that’s had me in bother more than a computer (admittedly the computer related incident was more infamous).
EDIT! I don’t expect explicit consideration in game design, btw! I quite accept there’s some things I’ll never do or see, and I’ll read about it instead (when they banned me from computer use years ago in school, I learned about spreadsheets from the manual. Never actually made one, though). I’m okay with that. What I do appreciate more is something like this thread appearing, just to say there may be an issue. I can take it from there.

And keep big cats off desks and laps so ya don’t have to bob and weave to see your screen like I constantly have to do!
/hugs for Ceri and her darling kitty
Awww, cheers m’dears.
I hope it gets sorted out for you, Avraham. There’s also the stickied threads for tickets older than 72 hours if your most recent ticket takes a bit of time. If you registered all the way (even a new account by accident?), maybe it’ll take a little extra tweaking to put right. My experience with Anet’s Support is that they work quite quickly, so hopefully you’ll get some more information soon.
Good luck! And let us know back here how it goes.
To chuck my opinion into the cacophony: I use transmutes regularly - my method tends to be using a spare character slot on something running around the cities. Sometimes I’ll level a character (doing area map completion) and cross fingers for a transmute (or a key. Usually if I want a key, I’ll get transmutes, and vice versa). This is rather time consuming, however. But I sometimes have fun, and sometimes it feels like a mini-grind I can’t be bothered with. I have no real solutions to this, however, it is what it is. If I really want them on the fly, and if I have the cash, I buy the transmutes with real money or gold. I’m sure I’d be open to more creative ways of acquiring transmutes, but I have the dumb today and cannot think of any. :/
What it comes down to for me is this: I don’t mind the crafted skins and whatnot requiring transmutes, or that I jump through a few (occasionally boring) hoops to get them. What gets my goat is stuff bought from the gem shop with real cash requiring them as well. That’s something that doesn’t sit particularly well - you spend 700 on the glider combo, and all bar one of your chars that want the backpiece have to transmute it. You buy the ear muffs, or are addicted to the scarf (for example) - you’ve already paid for it (either through time invested in the game or with real cash), it sucks to have to do it over and over again. I propose any armour piece purchased in that manner should remain free to transmute - similar to an outfit bought from the gem shop being free to apply every time, ditto HoM stuff, Zenith weapons, etc. - these items represent investment in the game(s) in the same way (cash or time or both). The armour pieces should be no different.
I’d like something like this, but would only pay about 1000 gems for it.
Actually I managed my playtime around dragon events BEFORE the change. After the change it’s a bit less fun because I find myself with times when I’m getting bored of exploring and have no good reason to run events I’ve already run that day.
So, yay better loot but boo less fun I guess?
This sums it up for me, too.
The dumb thing is, I actually was beginning to suspect the loot gods were against me (despite the fact I enjoyed the will-they-or-won’t-they gamble). It was a bizarre fun for me, to be on dragon rotation (plus the Maw, because I always found that fun), just for the odd chance of getting a rare – and I certainly did alright out of it, because I’m not sniffing at the greens and blues I mostly ended up with, simply because they pay the bills, so to speak. Waiting around for the events was fun, as there seemed to be a happy campers mentality. It wasn’t in the least bit stressful, which is nice when one does actually have real life stress. I suppose you could look upon it with a glass half full, and enjoy the experience rather the reward. Well, I did, anyway.
Then the Patch occurred (and yes, I feel it should be a proper noun). Now every time I do the event, I’m almost virtually guaranteed a rare. Sounds promising, I thought, but if this is the case, perhaps the word “rare” is taking on a new meaning, which is actually the opposite of its original meaning. Maybe the loot should be seen as green items, and I ponder this only because I suspect the economy may crash due to the reduced worth of the “rare” – that in itself will eventually solve all problems. And then we will certainly know the price of everything, but the value of nothing, whilst having a little gamer rage stress on the side in the event of lag (many, many puns quite intended). I’m happy to be wrong, of course.
I think anyone who wanted to make cash had myriad other ways of doing it before The Patch. I’m not sure why anyone would do dragons (or other large events) to make money – if not for loot, the events can then retain their purpose (lorewise) – because even if events are on timers, there are still chances for missing events as the spawn inside is more or less random, and if the Pact is camping out, we could arguably be doing the same in readiness based on their opinion that something bad could go down soon. Look upon it as a compromise between real life and the game.
I certainly don’t think guesting is the issue. I suggest such an accusation is lowest common denominator thinking, and not in the mathematical sense.
In the meantime, we just have to lag it out, and honestly, sometimes I don’t even know where or what I’m shooting at (but that actually amuses me. Doesn’t make it right, though!).
I’m sorry for my ramble, but I sort of get the impression that posting this in any of the associate threads works. To sum up, though: chests will get nerfed was the title of the thread. I wonder if that hasn’t already happened (albeit in a sick, somewhat masochistical manner).
Out of all the things that were not explained, one of them is the one that bothers me more than any other: Where is Trahearne?
I’m not asking “where he npc is”. I am asking “where in the Living Story is him”. Many things happened, things that he should be worried about, if not as the Pact’s leader then as a Sylvari Firstborn or as the guy that knows more about Orr than everyone else (Teq shows up stronger? Not his problem, it seems). However, he said nothing to his best friend and commander. Not even a letter!
Come on! He contact me to talk about every single step on the PS. Now, he simply vanished.
Well, we’d have a collection of posts discussing hate for that character just at the mention of his inclusion. You know the sort I’m referring to. This would be a revisit to threads of old, but he as a character should have input, I agree. Plus, given the amount of feedback Anet has received regarding Trahearne, one would suppose they could actually take that on board and write good, strong stuff for him (and ask for a somewhat more passionate delivery in his lines. Or a new VA). Anything but this Scarlet kitten.
Oh, yes. Absolutely /signed. I would really appreciate an option for turning squad names off/on. It gets really cluttered in Dragon’s Stand during escorts, like a choppy sea of blue.
This should go in the QoL thread (and/or you should edit your title with "Suggestion").
Oh, dear OP, you ask a leading question in your thread title, and I’m biting down really hard not to give you a flippant answer. Must! Resist! Urge!
... I’m resisting. And no, you’re not wrong. You sound burnt out. You sound like you could use a break for sure. Find something, anything, that makes you smile and feel happy. That’s what you sound like you should be doing right now.
I’m of the opinion there’ll never be a 100% perfect MMO or MMO-style game. There’s too many players of different types to satisfy everyone. Ergo, there’s always going to be annoying elements which make sad, frustrated pandas. I’ve also found this one (GW2) for the most part works for me. Not all of it, of course, and I don’t expect it to. It’s also not my only game, nor the only thing I do with my time (just sometimes a lot of it, and sometimes not). But this is about you, OP, and only you can decide whether you want to keep doing something or not. And if it’s not doing it for you, in any consistent way, then just don’t do it.
I’ve already said this to another player this evening in the forums, but I’ll say it to you, slightly paraphrased: I hope you get the experience* you’re looking for some day, and I wish you luck with it!
*I’m not saying "game experience" this time, as it may not really be a game you’re looking for (but only you decide that!)
The Sims is a few doors down, maybe that would suit ya better?
You joke, but I would be all over a Guild Wars 2 Sims. Build a house in Divinity’s Reach, invite Destiny’s Edge over, try to drown Logan in the pool. It’d be great!
On my more testing days, I would likely brick him up in an empty room, with no company but a cheap fireplace and a rug in rather close proximity. Would starvation or fire get him first? Results will be documented for posterity and for science!
To the thread in hand!: Braham has shorts, but his general outfit is not to my taste, but neither are shorts. There should still be shorts. Said it only recently in rather too many confused words, but the chaps don’t half get short shrift (ha, ha, ha) with fashion in this game. Must be a bug.
I’d just like a few minor adjustments to the cultural light armor - with one of them using pants and not a skirt. Just one! That’s all! Or at an least optional arrangement that looked like pants. Plant pants. And then I’d happily embrace full cultural armour on my mesmer (ranger and warrior already have it).
Running around playing flute was a thing? Cool! I have the harp, and don’t think I could run and play that at the same time. Maybe flute running/playing was removed for equality?
Mind, I play a flute in RL, and running isn’t really conducive to getting a good sound out of it.
Charr are what happens when cats get opposable thumbs, but not a mani-pedi.
Jennah likes to pretend she has had a mani-pedi, but nobody really knows. Nobody will ever know. She also may decide not to brush her hair one morning, and nobody will ever know. Heck, she could even be a charr playing human with imaginary lollerskates. Nobody knows for sure, do they?
It could be caturday before any of us knows it...
Bad, bad idea. Then the Orr temples will all go back to being continually contested.
You need to make events rewarding or people just won’t go unfortunately.
Perhaps a little from column A and a little from Column B.
I’d agree the Orr temples are in need of looking at (not least the chains need to be bolstered and less likely to break). They are hard, they can be very long, and they can be easy to screw up. It stands to reason they should be, and that the reward for success should be great.
However, Orr is a completely different cookie to the rest of the world. It needs to be handled as such.
Crows do not equate to chaos theory therefore do not equate to mesmer. Crows belong to necromancers or emo rangers. Bubbles would be something the elementalist would burn you for stealing.
Besides, some of those butterflies are purple.
A bare chest on a man isn’t the same as exposed breasts. And neither is exposed buttocks. You simply cannot compare them. Bare chests are a sexual symbol.
Type “sexy guy” in goggle search chests, chests, chests.
Except that for some reason, in certain countries, men without a shirt on are just chilling and women without a top are being kittens.
I did! I Googled it! Always happy to take one for the team. On occasions, such as this one, I even enjoy it.
A lot of what I saw wasn’t just the bare chest alone. It was that old Apollo’s Belt I’m always asking to see in GW2 that hints of stuff I probably can’t discuss here. The bare chest is completed with this, and this is why there should be a few pairs of trousers with an actual lower rise so this can be seen. It should work for lady toons too, for those so inclined. I’d actual just redesign the harem pants this way as an optional craftable at level 20, or whatever it is (not throwing the original out, mind). Regardless, it’d be thinking in V.
However, Urban Dictionary just informed me the Belt is also called the Devil’s Shoulders, which for me, explain so, so very much.
Yeah - I’d personally like a smaller sized affair. I loved the scale of Gilded Hollow (didn’t access Lost Precipice with the guild I was in), but for small guilds, that same scale is a bit much. I’d like something that was more standard house-sized, and preferably something using existing assets, so something that looks like a DR house, or an LA building, or something asuran, etc. Even the actual guild building itself in LA is okay size and design-wise. Just want to put usable furniture in there, a barkeep, etc. Don’t actually mind if it costs lots to upgrade, as anything can be achieved gold-wise over time, but it shouldn’t be completely insane costs, either. I mean, a chair’s a chair and technically doesn’t cost an entire forest to make.
Further, I’d be happy to just go to an estate agent to make a purchase. Don’t need an all-singing-and-dancing "This house must be reclaimed from X invaders!" stuff. Put it this way, although Archeage is a pox, the way you acquire a home and upgrade it was not an entirely terrible idea (bar the "where the heck can I put it?!" shenanigans).
Also, something with a library anyone can add a copy of all those books we can carry around would be nice (also can be used in "home" instance, I suppose).
Although, the way I’m putting it here makes me think this may be more of a solo "home" instance upgrade. I’m amenable to that, or guild housing, akin to FFXIV, perhaps.
We have a guildie with epilepsy who can’t play certain elements of the game because of the effects. Our guildie had a really bad time of it with one of the fractals – a snow blind one. CoF is another that is a real problem and can’t be played. The flamethrower on the engineer is a ‘repeat offender’ as well. For me – well some of the effects can trigger migraines if I’m playing the game for too long (zerging in EoTM for example).
I love the slider suggestion….if devs could give us the ability to tone down the effects and soften the patterns (white on black for example), that would be most excellent!
I am said guildie, therefore I echo this request. The Snowblind fractal and I are so not friends right now.
But isn’t the Deep Sea Dragon named Steve?
The Labyrinthine Horror is the DSD?
Oh my, this could get confusing!
Nope.
/15 charr conga line
I won’t be buying it.
Thanks to a (potentially) lucky release window, it’ll be given to me for my birthday instead! I shall likely ask for cash for gems for some character slots and other bobbins. Despite not liking some decisions made over the last year or so, and despite the "Heart of Thorns" name giving me the impression of a Mills & Boon novel, I still find the game to be enjoyable, even if I don’t play quite as much as I used to. Yeah, I can have a grumble about it every now and then, and I’ll put it down and do something else for a bit instead. The joy of the non-subscription model and all that. The prospect of hang gliding, even in just the smallest measurement, is exciting (since I jacked in ArcheAge, I’ve been missing flight).
Might buy it for my kid, though. But only if I think it’s suitable.
To each their own. I personally like flash, and stay away from the boring stuff that look like starting gear and weapons. I play this game for the fantasy, not real life simulation.
Fantasy worlds also need to have some internal consistency. Too much flash and even the strongest suspension of disbelief begin to crumble.
Also boring is relative. Wings on everyone are one of my more hurtful definitions of boring.
You know, even though I’m guilty of the flashy and shiny love, I had my new char in DR the other day and was literally shaking my head, wondering if she belonged in the same universe as the NPCs going about their daily business. I mean, I had the pinky-blue dragon wings, Winter’s Presence, Jormag’s Breath sword, plus some rather intense dye-age going on. I love it on one hand, but on the other, you’ve nailed it with the suspension of disbelief.
Not sure I can go to DR with that character ever again. :/
Sometimes I wonder if threads like this aren’t just a challenge:
"Convince me to stay."
"Agree with me that I’m doing the right thing."
"Give me meaning to my existence."
Whatever explanation is given, it’s just a surface scratch on the player issue.
The OP knows their comments are a small drop in the ocean - it’s even acknowledged with a "for what little it’s worth". The "I’m leaving" part is the sucker-in, so their comment doesn’t have to be lost within one of Anet’s feedback threads. It’s to get attention, thus naturally will draw the "Can I has your stuff?" posts. Even if the discussion that comes thereafter is the OP’s valid assessment of how they see things.
It’s fair to give a feedback assessment, but it should be labelled as such. If you have to make mention of your leaving, then it should be a small, minimal amount of your post. If not, at best it just draws quick-wits, at worst, it appears a troll post - either of which can lose the points it was trying to make. I’ll admit I just saw your topic title and wanted to post "Can I have your stuff?" without even reading what you had to say. I tried to be the better person and read your posts, however. I still want your stuff, mind.
I sympathise with your experience, OP, despite what I’ve just said seeming to say otherwise. I just wish you’d posted this as feedback and not mentioned quitting as your primary draw. Still, good luck with whatever you decide to do.
...you should keep your stuff, by the way. In case you change your mind, in case the game’s model actually does change to what you’re after in the future. After all, you’re not paying a subscription.
Darker nights would be great.
That said, in the meantime, if you have a usable AC weapon, equip it whilst doing crafting. It’ll glow a lovely blue at night, and is rather noticeable. I use the shield and find it quite unmissable - I can’t tell if it’s true night time in some places, but the shield lets me know.
Also, I think most of the hubs have a clock chime of sorts when the time changes, so if you have the sound up whilst hanging around in a city, you might catch the change there - though I don’t recall if all of them do this. Definitely The Grove and Hoelbrak do, and I suspect DR too.
EDIT: Oh, and look at any passing Sylvari. Hopefully their glow is evident enough to tell if it’s night or day.
You can also customise your music to play different stuff at night time.

Well, that’s Mrs., but I’ll take sir just this once!
Thanks for looking into this, Michael! I think it will be appreciated. <3

Sylvari ranger from my corner.
The armour is a mix of Leystone and Carapace, plus Gem Store sunglasses and T2 Sylvari leggings (plus Mawdrey on the back, which isn’t seen here. Mawdrey seems to go well with Electro Purple).
The colours used are Electo Purple, Glint’s Crystal, Amenity and Enameled Solitude.
The "hair" is a makeover kit style and colour (can’t remember which it is!).
It’s hard to look good whilst levelling without transmutes, but that can be said for any profession and race. So it’s not worth worrying about a look during levelling if you don’t want to transmute (I personally use free-to-apply stuff, gained from a few GW1 points and then the achievement skins in GW2). You might also discover cool pieces along the way. Some dyes are very expensive, but there’s often cheaper dyes that come close, and that’s more than good enough until you’re in your BiS gear.
In short, don’t worry about your look until you’re level 80 - and check the wardrobe and dye options at the bank. You don’t need to own the stuff to preview the gear and the dye (although you’ll have to suss the dye channels out in a quick trial-and-error).

:) I tend to lurk in poverty in this game. There’s always something I’m after (and I’m an altoholic, to make it worse). Getting to 500 in just leatherworking for the ascended/dynamic spinal blades nearly broke me! I’m also a little dungeon averse - I couldn’t do all the paths suggested every day - but if you can, it’s true: you’ll make money.
I make money off my salvaging, farming crafting materials and meta events (technically more salvaging). Despite being poor, I know I can generate cash from this relatively quickly, and in a way that’s not so difficult on me. Set your goal, evaluate the most efficient method of acquisition, and then just do it.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go for!

As has already been pointed out these types of threads pop up occasionally, as people only want the easy option. Its exactly the same as the thirst slayer achievement topic that surfaces from time to time, ’ ohhh booo hooo, I dont want to press the mouse button 100, 000 times, how can i do it the easy way’—-simple answer is, you cant, work for it!
The problem is, that you’re trying to justify an inconvenience, by saying it’s challenging. On the contray. There is nothing challenging about waiting, literally for months, for a chance at getting a POI.
A lot of fanboys in here are forgetting, that it was easier during the first few months, before they changed WvW into a ranking system. Now it’s much harder, because the matches are way more balanced, and it comes down to a chance of RNG, and not skill.
I’m not a fanboy, not by a long shot. Wrong gender for one. And I’ve had the experience of doing this when free transfers were available and when rankings weren’t a thing, and just two days ago (at the time of writing). A free transfer and no rankings issues, by the way, made it quicker, that’s all. That’s quick, not necessarily easier.
As noted by others, perhaps one real issue is then the colour changes (or lack thereof) at match-up.
WvW isn’t especially hard to complete in itself. It’s very possible to solo, you just have to deal with the fact that in places, the red things are that bit smarter than PvE mobs, and run in herds. But you too can run in a herd for cover if you need to. If you want the achievement quicker, that’s certainly one way to do it. You know, you spend much more time doing PvE completion. And if you took a small time in each play session to visit WvW along the way, things might be a bit different. You need not spend weeks solely concentrated on this.
Adapting to the environment is something you have most likely being doing in PvE anyway, right? I mean, looking at changing your set-up depending on what you’re largely facing, yes? Looking at changing weapon sets or armor stats, and so on? You may or may not have to do that in WvW, your build dependent. I’m personally pretty clueless when it comes to that, which is why I just deal with my dying by getting up and carrying on. Or saving it for another day.
Been There, Done That is not a WvW achievement or a PvE achievement. It’s an achievement for having done both and the problem here is thinking it’s simply PvE. It’s not, it never was, and for those who the concept of WvW is anathema*, you should simply chalk this one up to experience, and move on. If you’re unsure of WvW, it’s worth stepping in and seeing what you can do. If you’re prepared to adapt, even just a little, then you could be pleasantly surprised.
*You should all know, I hated its concept only slightly less than the usual PvP (which I have since stepped into, and found was okay, although I don’t think I’ll be back). Until I went in the WvW maps – because I wanted that achievement at all costs! – and found it wasn’t so bad. Being scared of something without direct knowledge is a pox on humankind, fear of the unknown is the great stupid we all have to defeat, simply, perhaps flippantly, put. At least in this particular case of PvErs into WvW, there is a chance for fun whilst getting over ourselves in the process.
I opened up the boxes, got a ranged weapon for my second weapon set and used the food given to us. No problem. Whenever I got low on health I dodged out and switched to range. The non boss mobs died easy. It was only the boss that gave some trouble.
If you didn’t get a ranged weapon or food from the boxes given to you, do that next time. Makes a difference.
However, if OP didn’t find a DH bow in the boxes, then that could be something that needs tweaked for future updates. Being nice and all benefit-of-the-doubt and such.
Other than that, everything you say is spot on.
My own take was it felt like I had to rush on the with the story before having chance to look at my inventory. Y’know, people being burninated and so forth seems to be a pressing matter. I then saw my character had a staff equipped (I do not mesmer with staff), and I couldn’t let it go on. Then, of course, I had to fix my wardrobe to be all pretty and the right colours, then I found boxes and had to open the boxes, and then my inventory was a mess, and to cut a long story short, if it truly was an urgent situation, someone other than Tests-with-Cake should’ve received the call.
If I’m being all nice again, I could suppose this: if anyone else happened to feel a sense of urgency in getting stuff done just like I did until I saw what a fashion faux pas it would’ve been, they may inadvertently forget to check what they have in their inventory, and thereby fail terribly at being equipped adequately for the mission.
