*facepalm*

After reading one too many posts insulting players for failures, Ceridwen finally loses it. You have been warned.

Who’s responsible for an event (specifically the marionette) failing?

I’m responsible, you’re responsible, we’re ALL sodding responsible. Yes, everyone taking part is at fault. Co-operation is the nature of this event.

Why are we all to blame?

There are several reasons, which include but are not limited to, the following (mentally tick the one which most applies to you, or tick all that apply if you feel you are deserving of more):

*Assuming people have played the content before, that each and every one knows exactly what to do at all times. Because they must have and must do, because you do!

*Assuming you have no part in educating the people on your run with exactly what to do. Your failure to communicate your knowledge has grossly let your side down. Give yourself a pat on the back for your non-contribution! Excellent.

*Assuming that it’s okay to insult and belittle people in-game and on forums when there are failures. You lower morale, and in doing so, set yourself and others up for future failures. Well played, you.

*Assuming every player has a maxed-out character taking part, just because your own character is!

*You think everyone should have the event down perfectly after one or two attempts because you have? If you think they should, well done! That’s another assumption and you are clearly a professional. Someone should be paying you for your time.

*Yes, players who fail may well be at fault too, but immediately shifting blame when you DO NOT know exactly why things happened the way they did is lazy reactive thinking. I say thinking; I probably shouldn’t because that doesn’t appear to be involved in the process at all. Assumption!

*Of course, all of that said, turning up and not knowing the minutiae isn’t a crime. Asking isn’t a crime, and it’s better than keeping quiet and contributing to the failure. If this is you, there’s plenty of help and guides now available, so do your best to get stuck in. If you still fail, try to identify what YOU did that was wrong, and arm yourself with better knowledge for next time. That is, if the people from the above reasons don’t make you want to kill yourself or drown kittens instead.

Enough reasons, I need to go and put the kettle on. But to sum up:

Why on earth do you think it’s acceptable to berate other people? How does this make the experience better? Do you feel better for it? Is your life that terrible that’s what you need to do to feel good about yourself? If so, that’s why events will fail. Well done, you.

Owning up to responsibilities probably shouldn’t happen in an online game, but here’s a learning opportunity for all.

*sigh*

*goes to kettle*

*awaits flames... but not from kettle*

You know, OP, it’s truly depressing how some people think they can just type and say anything like this. I admire you for posting this, and showing directly how it affects others, and trying to come up with a solution to negate it. I like your idea as a general QoL addition, but I just don’t like why you’ve had to come up with it in the first place.

During the Queensdale champion train the other day, I actually turned map chat off, because it was sexist and insulting. I’m sure the people posting the comments just thought they were with some kind of "in-crowd" and being all cool and stuff, but really it’s just pathetic. Thing was, I cut the map chat, but found it takes away the good map communication and co-ordination. In other words, I lost out on the game experience. So what to do? Am I supposed to report a group of people who are using sexist (or in the OP’s case, homophobic) language? Then it just looks like I’m serial spamming complaints. Should I screenshot, take their names and email support with a complaint after the fact? I don’t feel the report feature in-game accurately covers the offence, but there are chat logs that can be checked. Regardless, I ended up logging and feeling miserable for a spell afterwards.

What I do know, however, is that we shouldn’t have to put up with these attitudes from anyone. OP, it makes me sad and angry you feel your option is hiding. You shouldn’t have to hide, or filter things out. Those people who say the hateful things you’ve shown in your screenshot? They are the ones who should be invisible. They are the ones who should have to filter, be excluded. Not you.

How, in a game with a Code of Conduct where it explicitly states no verbal abuse, is this allowed?

EDIT:

1. While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. I play regularly with my 7 year old; in the basic low level PvE asura-based stories we’re enjoying, there’s no content I’d consider inappropriate. In fact, it’s even expanded her vocabulary (and my kid’s bilingual by default, and doesn’t come across advanced English every day). In our sessions, my kid has been "educating" me in the tutorial stage: "it’s good to get all 3 weapon skills before you get to the boss." I imagine she’s going to be somewhat unimpressed when we log in today to discover the second skill slot we’d just earned yesterday (which was a small victory for her, she was very proud to have achieved it), was for naught.

For what it’s worth, I won’t let her play all aspects of the game, and she’s not allow map chat or to speak to anyone. We’re in a guild of our own, which she has to rep 100% because Mummy is a draconian tyrant with respect to representation. Doing this, there’s not a whole heap of difference between this and any of the Lego games she’s been hammering for the last couple of years. The only issue is with some of the costumes some of the characters wear: "Mummy, wouldn’t that character be a bit cold?" "Uhh... yeah. Hypothermia incoming for them! Learn from this and always dress appropriately for a cold climate."

If you mess up a lane as badly as managing to wipe, it is your fault. People will be angry at you for it. Deal with it.

As explained, those situations I gave are not the only ones which could be factors, and it’s certainly not saying it’s all of them in any one given session – so yes! In some occasions they may not apply. That’s not really the message I’m trying to get through. Clearly I must try harder.

Okay. Once more into the breach:

My post is simply to do with the fact the name calling and insults have to stop. It’s about encouraging people to think about why there is failure other than “people are noobs and CBA to L2P.” The post was made in that styling because it hits harder than my usual ramblings. Perhaps, in hindsight, it inadvertantly swallowed the point I was trying to make.

So it’s about realising that our individual experiences are not necessarily the experiences of others and we should not judge them solely on our individual experience alone. We can only judge ourselves with that. I highlighted some situations in where using our own personal assessment criteria may not be applicable. I clearly hit home with some of you guys, and if it’s given you pause to think a little further about how people treat each other, in game or even outside of it, and even if you don’t agree with me, then that’s great.

It’s not about whether the content is easy, or hard, or a person’s gaming credentials (or lack thereof). It’s about the attitudes of people surrounding it being complicit in future failure when this behaviour is overwhelmingly negative. Simply put, those people who are getting angry are not doing themselves or anyone else any favours. This is why I went in with we’re all responsible: if we let angry comments happen, we’re responsible. If we make angry comments, we’re responsible. And this does not excuse people from not trying to make it work, either (and I’ve said this a bit over the last few posts I’ve made regarding the subject).

I really hope I’ve made it clearer if I was being overly obtuse before!

Wedding Dress on humans - How Garters Work

Do charr have the guts of their enemies for garters?

Anyhoo, if a wedding dress outfit or whatever (Wha’?! I don’t even, but some probably do) is failing to have stockings involved in the usage of its garter, it’s likely following a Western tradition, so the links tell me. I don’t do traditions of this nature, but then again, I’d never be caught dead in a wedding dress, garter or not. Having looked at the pictures of the proposed item, I can safely conclude this purchase is not for me™!

Something MUST be done about the RP in DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I support an RP channel for chat, and, if possible, any Emotes in that channel also be broadcast only in that channel.

I’ve seen some stuff in DR and in Rata Sum where no amount of reducing emotes in other channels will fix it:

Exhibit A:
A group stands centrally, amidst the TP and bank and crafting stations and use the Say channel to conduct their conversations. They’re different guilds, and often larger than a standard party, and I don’t think they’d go for making a squad and taking their chat there, or they would’ve done it by now. I’ve ended up blocking the lot of them, and it’s annoying because I do think at some point, somewhere else in the game, they could hold valuable information I may actually want to hear, or be decent in (OOC) map event groups, etc. I don’t think they’re bad people, just a little too easy on the Say channel - which I don’t want to turn off, because if someone uses it to ask a question, or announce an event, whatever, I want to be able to see that.

Exhibit B:
There was also an awesome bit of RP in DR the other month, where the people responsible invited everyone there to come and take part. Again, a few different guilds, and quite a good number of people involved - but then it’s all over the Say channel or their emotes range far wider than is sensible, and however excellent their RP was, it’s simply not agreeable that it turns up in the boxes of uninterested parties. It’s no wonder it’s viewed as spam and again, people that don’t truly deserve it are getting blocked.

I think there’s an etiquette of situation here, and it’s that RPers should have their corner of the world without anyone else imparting upon it or being annoyed by it. They are niche, and thus deserve a further place to enjoy themselves and their art without infringing on anyone else (said as an RPer of old, I’ll have you know, although I no longer indulge). And with an RP channel, if someone wants to listen in, they can select the channel, same as any other. If they don’t, turn it off, but don’t miss anything else in Say, Map, whatever. Sure, someone could troll the RP channel, but then RPers can block and even report a troll, right? After all, I’m fairly sure that’s a better way than me or others blocking largely innocent RPers instead.

movement on the vertical axis is an obvious next step for mmo’s as a genre, .

MMOs should take a look at games like Uncharted or Assassins Creed. Forget this bouncing along like a maniac on a pogo stick, and put in some actual _climbing_.

+1 to more actual climbing.

Age of Conan has climbing in it - not everywhere, of course, but it’s still there and it’s interesting. Anyone could do it as well, since it’s only restrictive in as many skill points you’d put into it (and the skill points are there to use without issue).

It’d be a nice addition to GW2, if it could be created. In future content, perhaps it could even be an alternative route to jumping in some places.

EDIT! In relation to the update itself? I believe Bilacus had it right at "hamster wheel." The sandstorms in the map make me a little sick, and although I appreciate the beauty of the map, I don’t feel inspired to work the place for the achievements I previously would’ve been after (my issues with aspect jumping and whatnot aside). There are some other things that weren’t overly enjoyable, too, but now I just feel apathetic toward the place, and have marked it down as another Southsun: somewhere that’s just not that interesting to hang around. Which is a good thing, because from what I understand, the tier system isn’t forgiving and I wouldn’t want to be wasting someone’s time by not participating in the "correct" manner. :/

It effectively boiled down to another release containing some content Not For Me™.

The fact remains that it is fully possible to train up jumping ability and as such this is basically a non-issue. Especially since it is permanent.

Not for everyone. I’ve played mmos for years, and I’m not a bad player. HOWEVER I have fibromyalgia, my fingers are stiff so it’s hard to get the timing right. Trying to train this ability make my hands, arms, shoulders and neck cramp up and scream with pain. So I basically avoid all jumping in the game. I can play most of the game just fine, just not the stuff that requires jumping skills and very fast reactions.
There are many who play MMOs who either don’t have the body, reaction, PC or connection required to ever be any good at jumping, that’s why it should only be an OPTION in the game, something you can opt out of and still have fun!
I’ve seen on forums for other MMOs that quite a few who play these are disabled like myself. I’m not surprised. Gaming became one of my biggest hobbies after I became disabled and could no longer do all the physical activities I loved.

I think those who are able-bodied may sometimes have a hard time trying to imagine what it’s like for those of us who aren’t. I like to think that if such a person stopped up and really thought about it, they wouldn’t be so quick to judge. It’s possibly difficult because our varying conditions can mean different things – as in, some of us can do some stuff and not others, and some can do that other stuff but not that which… ah, you get the point – I hope! Also add in this method of communication in forums or games, makes everyone conveniently blind (and in this sense, everyone on the internet is disabled), and therein is a recipe for casual disregard.

I want to be somewhat forgiving towards those people who don’t know us or fathom us as individuals in our own right, although sometimes that is rendered quite difficult. Must. Keep. On. Trying. I suppose.

Taimi mini for Christina

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I doubt Christina wants special treatment. I’m willing to bet that she’d prefer to be treated equally like everyone else.

This. People with a disability, a genetic condition, or even people that are temporarily in a wheelchair because of an accident, usually just want one thing: to be treated normally, like everyone else.

I feel you, you read something that moved you, and you want to _do_ something. Well, you can. Next time when you’re in a crowded subway, train or tram, take your eyes off your phone and check if others need your seat more than you do. That’s a huge leap forward in thinking. And actually _seeing_ the world around you.

I like fadeaway’s proposal to introduce a mini Taimi, the proceeds of which are used for MS research. That’s entirely at the discretion of Anet though.

Yes. My epilepsy ranks as an unseen disability, but I did not enjoy how I was treated after throwing it down in IT class when I was a teenager (I was never allowed on a computer in school again). I did not enjoy it when, with resulting injuries still apparent on my face, my friends and acquaintances seemed to melt into the background for an entire week until I looked "normal" again. I got myself into computer gaming, despite all the advice to the contrary, but that’s my positive. For me, it’s definitely true that the last thing I want is to be marked as so* different as to be totally alien (a degree of different is okay); but no matter how big the difference is, the desire to be accepted is overriding. Most people, with or without disabilities, want that, and for some it comes easier (and for some, never at all). Still the want is universal, and by using imagination and empathy, it’s not hard to go that little bit further in everyday life to accept others for who they are (not what). Like Buttercup says, it’s that seeing of the world around you.

My grandmother has been using a wheelchair for a long time now, but when she first started, it was astonishing how people suddenly started talking over her, asking whichever family member was helping her whether she (my grandmother) wanted a cup of tea or not. Such people usually got told to ask my grandmother directly. A wheelchair is not something which writes someone out of existence. Nor is any disability.

And to the point of the mini. I like the idea of a mini Taimi, because she’s cool, full stop ( regardless of if she keeps making me think Cait Sith). I don’t need to donate to charity by way of purchasing said mini - I kinda think we should do that anyway, without a mini being involved simply because it’s the right thing to do - but it doesn’t hurt if a percentage of proceeds goes directly to an appropriate charity - or how about a day or weekend where any gem purchase outright has a percentage donated (but there should still be a mini Taimi!)?

Ceridwen.6703

Krestfallen sums up what i was about to type. Really guys.. l2p, its really not that hard. Isnt like somebody would expect you to do liadri the concealing dark with no armor and 4 gambits here. These bosses are easy as pie, just observe and take a look at the mechanics. They give you enough time to do so (if you can dodge a bit what you should at lvl 80 by default). I for one am sick of the stack and auto attacking that this game was reduced to for far too long and i welcome the attempt to make bosses that atleast fight back. Learn to play your class, avoid the very obvios red and orange cyrcles and watch the bosses movements, if a new element is introduced in the fight try how it works and what it does (like that fire in the last LS fight) and adapt to the enemie and the fight and dont expect the enemie to adapt to you. The enemies job is to kill you and not to cuddle you or give you an easy time (well..still easy but you get the point). Its your enemie and it wants to see you dead…DEAD. Man up and try again till you get how it works. Learn to play your class and\or adapt the build to the enemie if its not working. Use food and wetstones, change your weapon set, change your armor to something more tanky if needed. Read the enemie descriptions and buffs if available. Cant figure out how the mechanic works? Get a guide vid on youtube or go to dulfy and read up how it works. Ask people to join your group and do it as team. So many ways to fix that issue, just gotta do it

I must say, I refuse to man up. A gender change should not be required to play a game. :P

And doesn’t notice the real complaint here.

Is that one can’t take their time. It’s openworld, people should be able to take their time, and not feel rushed because the aspects will time out.

I think this would be the nail on the head. My broken brain just cannot deal with it. I have done the story, and the “boss” fight nearly had me in tears (admittedly I am rather soft, but it was incredibly uncomfortable to do, what with flashes and jumps and timed crystals and annoying tendrils – good stuff if you’re not epileptic/otherwise impaired, mind). It was frustrating, and for once, I actually don’t feel good that I managed it – for example I have actually felt happy previously for doing jumping puzzles and dungeons which I previously thought I couldn’t do. After this map, I just felt sick. I couldn’t even do stuff with my guild, which would normally help. If I’d had some time to adjust, I think it might have been a less painful experience. I know how to use the aspect crystals – though Fay’s guide earlier in the thread is a lovely gesture and is appreciated nonetheless – however the lack of time being able to move is indeed the major issue here.

So whilst I appreciate the concept of the map, I get the story and all that, I’m beginning to have major doubts as to my being able to partake in the LS. I mean, I’ll try regardless, but it’s no fun to log in and discover more stuff that isn’t for me (and I had some of that last season, too, so really, why would I expect any differently this time? Meh).

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I do not force them to wear skimpy, they shouldn’t force me to not wear it , by advocating for less skimpy armor sets.

Hint, not all women want to be dressed up to the neck... and down to the ankle... well, unless it’s skin tight... maybe..:P

Buy ya.. #1 all the way.

I don’t think a vote for "less skimpy" immediately calls a ban on everything that is the opposite. Frankly, if you want that armour, more power to you. I understand. It’s not necessarily an Us Vs. Them situation, though, and it’s not conducive to debate to skewer it that way.

A lot of "female human/norn/(somewhat) sylvari armour gives the impression of being indentured to fanservice. If you are the fan who is being serviced, naturally you are happy; you do not care, you’re not affected and can go about your merry way. That’s great if this is you, but if you are someone who’s not being serviced (in the best possible sense. Behave at the back, there!), then it seems very imbalanced - maybe even unfair. How come over there get what they want.. and because I have different wants I’m ignored? (Please note, this question is rhetorical.)

There’s such disparity between the genders (and further, across the races) in terms of armour, and it makes no sense. That’s not to say there aren’t choices for the overdressed and the underdressed - there are - but they’re not gender-balanced. Asking for balance, or choice, isn’t wrong. For example, let’s use the starter light armours for comparison:

Female: wears skirt so short it could be called a belt, also bits of it are uneven in length; an interesting and fun top which is marginally suggestive yet mostly inoffensive (although suggestive and inoffensive are subjective); plus some odd boots which are sort of cool (lace-ups are nice, height is nice, heel is debatable but not game-breaking), but suggest feet have perhaps been bound.

Male: Lots of clothes. Long "coat", long trousers, reasonable boots. Quite covered up.

I understand Vive la différence!, but these looks for the "same" armour set are nigh on polar opposites. This is what makes it come across as fanservice - but only for one set of fans.

It would nice for something of a mix to be available. If I want a character to wear that skirt (male or female) it should be possible, and from the outset. Same with any armour. I know this entails a lot of work on Anet’s side, of course, and I appreciate it’s not at the top of the list for things to do, but I still ask for it. It baffles me it’s not like this already. I mean, we should start off with a selection of all armour styles, and pick and choose our look from these, rather than just be set in one particular armour. It would give us more variety in our appearance from the get-go.

And, as ever: More trousers without skirt attachments!. Free Charr Paws! Free Asura Feet! Full skirts of all lengths! Armour Equality! For all!*

*please advise of any I have missed. I shall add any I agree with to make my new signature. I suggest others do similar!

Stop blaming other players, plz

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

At what point then is it acceptable to attribute failure to an individuals inability to play the game and learn?

I feel like the carebears who advocate for people to be nice all the time and just accept other peoples constant failure are just enablers, letting people tell themselves that it isnt actually their fault and the players telling them otherwise are just jerks. This game needs MORE events like this, not less.

Anecdotally, I had a player on my platform that refused to kite Warden II. No matter how much we asked him to kite, explained it to him and tried to be nice, he would respond with “kitten you, dont tell me how to play!”. Are we supposed to just say, oh ok special snowflake, we understand. This must be our fault??

Mm. No, advocating for people not to be kittens after events isn’t enabling people to intentionally not improve themselves. If they think they don’t have to put in some effort, they’re simply not being honest with themselves. Saying nothing, however, and letting people get picked on after events is enabling. The spiteful comments which come surrounding this type of event is what we’re chiefly discussing. I’m asking for people to stop and take a moment in serious reflective thought, before the abuse happens.

If you have to speak with a player about performance, by all means speak with them. Constructively. Tactfully. Privately. Please again note where I say everyone should attempt to acquire information on the event ahead of running it, but I certainly wouldn’t expect everyone to. It would be immensely helpful to have foreknowledge, but again, it’s not a foolproof method. There can and will be failures. Review accurately and without bias. Accept, renew resolve and move on.

Still, this is why your anecdote is useful, however (and I love the phrase “special snowflake”, as it happens. It never fails to bring a smile). It seems like it wouldn’t be your fault, and clearly it’s hard in such a situation to find out what the other player’s real deal is. The rest of you on the platform are in a spot and it’s not an easy one to think out of – aside from just letting him die of course, and another of you kiting instead. Which is a risk. We do have to accept there’s going to be some players out there that come off badly. We don’t have to like it, either. But what we don’t do is call insults on map chat or any forum about the guy in a cruel way. Even if it seems they deserve it (they don’t, no one ever does). As I’ve just said, you can have a quiet word if you really must – which takes more nerve, I think, than using map chat – and maybe you won’t get anywhere. Maybe you will. Perhaps you’ll find out the player was having a truly terrible RL day, and thought to get over it by being in game. Then felt harrassed (albeit unduly in truth). Perhaps they really shouldn’t have played that day (and I do think, if you’re feeling angry, fed up, sad or just down in general, group events may not be a good idea as you may end up just feeling worse). Perhaps they feel a total moron for screwing it up so royally. Maybe thereafter you help them make amends. Yes, I’m throwing a lot of random scenarios out there, but life isn’t black and white. It’s mostly variations of grey (no 50 shades jokes, please). Understanding that will help a lot of us get on with working through these events successfully. Without that, and working on pure bile, they will invariably fail.

I went with Dragon’s Watch as well, although I am slightly worried about the location of the apostrophe. The Watch belongs to the and/or a Dragon? Or the dragon is keeping a lookout for something? Is it about the dragon’s timepiece, or has the dragon has finished levelling as a Chronomancer? It’s cool if it’s any of those, or if it’s a teaser for Glint’s egg baby.

If not the latter, it should probably be Dragonwatch, but I suppose that sounds a bit too much like a weekly dragon news round-up, or some kind of tabloid-esque rag clearly biased against scaled beasties.

In hindsight, I should’ve voted for something else. XD

As an aside, I made a Sylvari thief today called A Twig Has No Name.

What will happen to Sylvari PCs?

in Living World

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Assuming the Sylvari player is not a roleplayer*, I would hope nothing happens. Doing things like that to players without informed consent feels very wrong, a violation of sorts, though I mean that only in a small, game bubble sense. But I don’t think it’ll come to that.

Given a choice, however, I imagine there would be some who’d like to have a pop at being a complete minion, and some (such as myself) who would never dream of it - pun totally intended.

I have real life stuff going on making more than a little emotional right now, so my sense of this may be disproportionate - it has certainly coloured my reactions to this latest release, for good or ill - but the idea of being a minion on three of my characters really bugs me, more than I thought it would. I went and rolled a charr to see if it would help, but alas! it didn’t.

So I’ll be refusing to be a minion minion, and will just be saying no, thank you very much. You must have my twig confused with another.

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Just ask Anet to have more variety of armor choice for both side, win win.

Someone claims that there are more skimpy than non skimpy armor, that is a lie or unless somebody cannot properly count. When i am looking at the armor sets, all i can see is well covered armor for every weight class. For skimpy armor, yes, some of them are half naked but it is a rare case.

The armor designs are well following our modern fashion direction, female fashion are more focus on slim cut, tight fit and even boob holes and mini skirts. Why? Because guys love it. In real world, for practical protection gear are not designed with "attractive" in mind. But this is a game, and this is where this kind of fantasy are possible to exist out of real world.

So be productive, stop telling skimpy armor is wrong, instead, suggesting possible walk around solution for the kind like yours.

Not many argue for the removal, or that the sparser armours are in themselves wrong. There is an argument to appreciate or allow a different perspective, however, and that’s clearly rather difficult to do. Ignoring people who are not the "guys" when determining who apparently loves what is particularly disingenuous toward the player base (I say apparently; how many would say they want a particular thing so as not to appear different from the perceived status quo?). Some players have been posting, saying they prefer other things for their fantasies.

Thus, the other perspectives I began with which must also be considered. Asking for a game to embrace differing preferences isn’t a bad thing. No one has asked for the unmitigated removal of the more revealing armours, and would be unreasonable to do so. Whether someone prefers a more realistic approach or the ultimate fantastical show is personal. Having a preference in and of itself isn’t wrong. We should be able to celebrate all whilst being able to retain our choices. I suppose I’m advocating a live and let live approach: as this is a (fantasy) game, we in theory harm no one by making such allowances. If a person is unable to do so, then I would humbly suggest they have the problem, not those who embrace different choices, and should seek immediate ownership thereof.

I think they see you from a great range with invisible scopes (or worse, cybernetic implants), and even if you go into stealth, they’ve seen you do it and can instantly estimate the airspeed velocity of any swallow, unladen or otherwise, so said stealth is irrelevant - then those guided missiles! Ow! Is fun to dodge about for a bit, but still!

Agree on glider skill 5 as best option - have used it to evade a few times now. Healing on skill 4 doesn’t really do enough to help, but something like a Guardian-style block on-heal would be good. Its 1 second evade doesn’t really work well when lots of stuff is being pelted at gliders.

Homes for Quaggans!

Ceridwen.6703

At various points throughout today (and maybe the rest of the week), I’ll be walking - just walking - across Gendarran Fields between Vigil Keep and the Cornucopian Fields waypoint, purely to raise quaggan homelessness awareness. I realise others have lost their homes, but I’m concentrating on the quaggans for now.

I did a test walk last night, and around Vigil Keep, one asura with an interesting tonic quaggan, without words, knew my intention and walked with me for a short while. Another quaggan and even a norn came too, albeit rather too briefly. At the Cornucopian Fields, an asura and another norn paced with me a little (and there was a moment or two of dancing!), again without words understanding the need to get the message across.

Now, I ask quaggans and any others to walk with me, should you see me (image below for visual reference). We need not exchange words, however shouts such as "Homes for Quaggans!" and "End Quaggan Home Dispersal Now!" are to be encouraged (although not quite in the same way we’ve been encouraging Lion’s Arch citizens to escape their beleaguered city. That’s just... well. Hm).

Together, we can raise awareness and find a new home for all homeless quaggans (hopefully a permanent one this time)!

Irritating ingame question

Ceridwen.6703

I wonder how reactions would be if that was a girl asking for a guy around :P

I saw an “experiment” video on The Guardian website not long back, where a woman propositioned men in the way men have oftentimes spoken to women. A lot of men were simply bemused; thought she’d lost her marbles and asked if she was feeling well. One guy took her up on her offer. A lot were quite confused as she shouted certain things from the van she was driving past them.

The only, yet major, difference was the men didn’t appear to feel threatened by the woman in any way.

Make of that what you will.

As I have no direct experience, the guy asking for a girl from Sweden is currently lying in the odd category.

I was after the snow dragon mini, myself. Think I might have seen it for a few seconds, but it was before I had cash (in-game or real) to commit to gems. It would just be nice if they’d kept all the appropriate themed items available through the whole festive period. It’s not always a good time of year for finance on the fly, which means things can easily be missed out on, and it feels contrary to the spirit of the season. Plus, all that pack stuff should be available separately at the same time, and in the pack at a reduced cost per item.

What do you more pro players, who have little to no issues, do for that? Is it having a bigger resolution that helps (financially impossible for me at the moment, sadly, but can probably be fixed in the future)? Or do you not need to zoom out as much, because you’re able to see what’s happening? Please advise.

Jumping can be trained..... I give you arthritis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel, I give you stroke, amputations, and plain old bad hand/eye coordination that cannot be ’trained’.

The one thing that I like(d) about this game is that you were not forced to do things you don’t like or can’t do. Don’t like PVE, go WvW, don’t like PVP, go Dungeons.

I avoided the Aspects the first time they were around, I completely avoided the entire thing the second time around. I haven’t had the chance to try the new zone yet but if you MUST use the aspects to progress then I won’t have any of my characters able to do it, plain and simple. Charr or Asura, it won’t matter, I will never get any of my (currently) 14 level 80 toons into that zone.

I don’t care if it takes 4 times as long to do it without the Aspects, it should be POSSIBLE to do it without them.

Yep, agreed. I think they’re trying to make me feel more decrepit than is absolutely necessary with this content. I’ve done the story (and a fight in it made me despair at my wrists and seemingly increasingly poor reactions, ultimately rendering it no fun), and figure that’s me done for this content.

I can only say to those who have no issues, you’re very lucky. Enjoy it.

It’s not about what’s easy, or hard, or even how long it takes. We’ve all got different opinions on that. It’s not unreasonable, however, for someone to say they don’t like some modes of gameplay - one would think most people know themselves well enough to say how they’d like to spend their happy fun time, however much of it they have.

The daily system no longer provides the choice in modes it used to, and that is the cold, hard fact of the matter.

I’d like the "Quit this chapter" bit of the story content to actually stick on map change. Sometimes I’ve gone back to replay stuff simply for an achievement, or to check some dialogue or a visual out. It didn’t mean I wanted to re-do the whole length of the story chain again, much less be reminded of it with nag text every time I swap maps!

I’m wondering if it’s a little difficult to fix this, because it’s not the first time it’s come up (certainly it’s at least the second time I’ve wittered about it). Sure, I don’t think it’s game-breaking, but we’re talking QoL.

I have the Disable Personal Story drop down selected, too, but it doesn’t seem to work with LS or expansion stuff (can’t remember about base game PS). Nor does it work when selected to disabling PS and events (but I like having events knowledge at will, and that does work).

I’d also go further than this: the option to turn off all top left corner text at will would be great (though default should be set to On).

But, what I’m concerned about, here, is not the cheesers of GW2 losing some of their cheese; especially, as they still have, at least somewhat, cheesy raids to “enjoy”.

It is the people who, genuinely, needed the game to be less challenging, for some reason.

Maybe they can’t play much, or have disabilities that affect how they can play and/or for how long, in one stretch, or whatever.

Or maybe they can, physically, play it, but they find it stressful and that stress affects them negatively.

I’m just concerned that they may have paid a lot for an xpac that they really can’t enjoy much of, at all.

Very late reply here, as I’m no longer regularly reading the forums. I only read this here this evening because I wondered if anything was better now, but it doesn’t seem so. Now I simply want to chime in and say the above is pretty much what happened to me. I don’t particularly want to go into it, but suffice it to say I’ve quit what was once enjoyable since it is no longer so, have been fogged with depression which of course hasn’t made it any better (and I stupidly burnt bridges as a result of it), and I have actually uninstalled a game I never thought I would uninstall. I played because it did help me forget about my real life health issues – but in the end, it just forcibly reminded me of them because I wanted to try something different. Still, no one can have my stuff, as one day I might pop back for a bit and need it.

My head feels lots better for not playing, however, though in hindsight I do regret the amount of money I have put towards the game – although it’s good to see there are still happy people playing, and kind people thinking of others. I don’t begrudge anyone their enjoyment of GW2, however my experience turned out, so I hope everyone gets a little something of what they want gamewise this coming year! Happy gaming, all.

I think there is some fault in developers when your game needs to be learned outside the game itself, search the internets to read the event and which weapon sets someone else decided are the best ones etc...

All this should be possible to be learned in-game. Or just design the entire game to be mysterious and to need to search stuff elsewhere.

But these things can be learned in game regarding the marionette. Each champ has a little bit of text underneath their vitals. How else do you think other people figured out how to beat them? Blind luck? No. They were attentive. They read what was going on regarding the event in the event text.

Failing looking at the champs or event status yourself, map chat is usually full of instructions, at least on my server and the overflows I’ve seen. The information is there. For some reason, a segment of the population is unable to utilise it or refuses to do so.

Who’s responsible for an event (specifically the marionette) failing?

I’m responsible, you’re responsible, we’re ALL sodding responsible. Yes, everyone taking part is at fault. Co-operation is the nature of this event.

No, just no.

Honestly your post is just the opposite extreme of those who rage over the fails. And a serious LOL about your ’failure to communicate’ comment. I’ve never seen so much communication about a fight in map chat before.. up to 30 minutes before it starts and with constant constructive directions and tips during the fight. Loads of organising going on to get the correct numbers in each lane. Each warden being explained in detail before and during the fight. Instructions reiterated numerous times. Coaxing, motivating and encouraging each other, etc... yet I’ve still seen chain 2 failed three, yes three! times in a row on my server as of yesterday. That is blatant responsibility falling on the shoulders of specific people who are not cooperating with the group since it would seem they’ve completely ignored all the tips and instruction they were given.. or they’re outright trolling. There have been people going above and beyond. Yet you’re going to bad mouth those people and say they’re at fault too. Just, no.

I don’t doubt there’s communication before the event. I don’t doubt there’s every chance people aren’t listening, or perhaps not understanding. You did note, I hope, the part where I mention people should be looking at how to do this in advance, that trying to kitten where they have failed themselves is important to take on to the next attempt?

Also, we must accept that no amount of explanation, guides and other preparation is the same as being right in the line of fire. It helps, but it’s not foolproof.

I wonder: did you happen to converse with those people who you deemed to have failed? Did they perhaps spend 30, 40 seconds in a loading screen hitherto unheard of, and downed almost immediately, then tried to get up and orient themselves and got downed again? Did they have graphical issues (reports of the camera being a problem are about, and I’ve suffered that the once myself). If any of those are the cause, then having a go at the player(s) serves no purpose other than to decrease morale. Which in turn, adds to potential future failures. But I think I made that point already.

If it was their attempt for the first or second time, you must realise that not everyone has the inherent skills that others possess at their disposal. Have a little empathy. It is not necessarily their fault. Then again, it could be. If you don’t take a little time to privately and politely inquire afterward, then how do you know? Yeah, you’re putting yourself on the line if you do that, but if not, you’re assuming someone is guilty of something without having a chance to defend themselves.

My post was providing possible causes for failure which many may not have considered, because there have been repeatedly cruel posts and map chat entries which are not warranted. They are pre-emptive attacks. This is what I’m taking issue with, and what the original intent, I believe, of this particular thread is.

EDIT: Really? the filter won’t allow "kitten"? Good grief.
EDIT 2: Okay, it really won’t allow it. The word is synonymous with evaluate or appraise, and also begins with an "a" and is almost like a donkey. *sigh*

Game shallowness caused by lack of teamwork

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I’m anti-social. I’d love to be all social and in there and chatting all the time and stuff... but I’m just not that person. I’m in a guild of one and a half (that half being my kid, and she only plays to have fun, and doesn’t do any form of progression. She likes to bunny-hop around), although I did do a guild once or twice before, and they weren’t really my sort of people to play with.

Whenever I’ve gotten myself in a group (I tend to think this a mistake on my part), I start to panic somewhat, and don’t feel I can live up to any expectation I imagine the other players may have (admittedly when I’m on the ranger, I should think their expectations are low). I still try to succeed, because I, with all my anti-social ridiculousness, can believe in a greater good and working for it, even if that means in a group situation. I don’t want to let them down, I absolutely hate that idea, and that’s why I’d usually avoid it if I feel too nervous. As dumb as that may be. Sometimes I’ve got to force myself through this stuff - and yeah, if it goes well, I’ll feel better afterwards. Even though it’s just a game, I’ll take it as a win and even use it in RL if I have to.

I haven’t found any concept of guild I feel totally comfortable with, even if on some days I feel like "today could be the day! I could join a guild today and it will be a good fit!" I never get past just looking at a Guild Launch page, or an ages old server guild list. I also know I’m just too chaotic when it comes down to it, and sooner or later, cannot be relied upon. Even if I want to be approaching reliable, I’m just not. Something happens and I switch off.

Forcing me into having to play socially with others breaks my mind. Well... it doesn’t, not really, nothing quite so dramatic. But I do have to be feeling unnaturally confident to succeed. I know I can succeed, I’ve done it before, and I try to be open to ideas and new things, but I don’t like being forced into something. I’d rather decide for myself, not have a game or others do it for me. If what I decide happens to coincide with the game or others, then I’m sure it’s all good. But I don’t feel so bad if it doesn’t, and I will do something else instead. I am acutely aware of my limitations, and if something is trying to run counter to this, I just won’t do it (so a lot of jumping puzzles and things like SAB are out).

The best thing about this game is I don’t have to do things with other people if I don’t want to. There’s really nothing here like that. It’s only if I decide I’m focused on achievements, or ending the personal story, or doing marionettes, or whatever, that I have to co-operate. And yet I still decide if I want to do that or not. I’m not forced into anything unless I put myself in that position in the first place - and if I do put myself there, it’s with the foreknowledge of it involving others. I wouldn’t necessarily describe this as a social environment, however. With some of the backchat and nasty comments, it’s anything but. Sociopathic, maybe. It’s certainly not healthy.

If I miss something I find interesting (anything story or lore related for example), either due to time or "forced" constraints, I’ll look it up on the Wiki or similar. It may not be the same as experiencing it first hand, but frankly, I have a hard time reading/watching stuff first hand owing to the panic of doing stuff with other people who want it done yesterday anyway (dungeon story modes, I’m looking at you!).

Oh, cows. You know, there were some times I’d consider only feeding the cows in Applenook for that heart. Plug leaks? No. Murderise bandit pirate scallies on the rob? Why, no, sir. Feed cows (and okay, some chickens and pigs too)? Yes! A thousand times! Cows rock.

No cow feeding in Queensdale is clearly a travesty which ought to be corrected.

Hm.

These days, I’m mostly playing a different game, where I can raise my own cows and feed them. Which is nice. I wouldn’t consider making a new character in GW2 at this time, and I was a confirmed altoholic. Well, at least I’ll be sober with no need for a twelve-step programme.

Now I just join in for the WvW tournament, and playing with my kid when she wants to do stuff (we killed the Shatterer today; it was Small’s first dragon, and she, unlike most of us who have haunted these forums for that last few years, actually thought it was quite something. So that was nice). I feel rather uninspired to do anything else. I don’t know if it was just the cows that did it, or if the bovines were merely the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. Poor cows. Who’d’ve ever thought it was too confusing to feed them? *sheds tear for starving cows*
