I keyboard turn and mouse click

Serious question here, as I’ve not looked at my settings in … years now, but was there ever or is there currently an option to toggle mouse-look mode?

Something along the lines of: “press [KEY] to make the mouse act as if right-click is always depressed.”

I could see that being really useful for people who find it difficult to adapt or have health issues that make holding down mouse buttons a pain. Likewise this could be a nice way for the OP to slowly break into things without feeling trapped one way or the other.

(Or we could finally get proper controller support, not like that’ll ever happen~)

Yes, there is a mode called “action camera”, where you move the camera simply by moving the mouse, the cursor is locked in the middle of the screen, and all skills you cast will cast on your cursor. You can set a custom hotkey to toggle this mode on and off. Unfortunately though, this prevents skill clicking, as your cursor is locked in the middle of your screen. You could use the hotkey to toggle it off whenever you want to click a skill, but then you might as well just keybind your skills directly.

To any ocx/sea guilds looking to transfer, I just want to make it clear that we’re not begging you to come here to “carry” us through that coverage zone. We have some people that play pretty weird hours already, and any additions would help to bolster and solidify our presence for that time slot. You’d be the missing piece of the puzzle, but there would not be huge pressure and reliance on you. I think this is a good place for both parties, as you (the ocx/sea guild) will not feel overworked, but we (NSP) will definitely notice a difference. We’ve already has some ocx/sea transfers, which is awesome. That relieves the pressure on potential transfers of being “the first”. You’ll definitely have friends if you come over now!

I know personally I would be afraid if a server was asking me to come over and do the work for them. This is not the case. For any time zone, we embrace and guilds and players that want to work with our team, in collaboration with the server. We are not looking for people to come over here and “save us”. NSP is very strong, and we want more people here to join our brotherhood.

Shatter-related trait inconsistencies

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

This post will detail several Mesmer traits that behave inconsistently.

Illusory Persona (XI): 30 points in illusion
“Shattering illusions creates the shatter effect on you as well.”

Illusions are not required to be shattered to create the effect on you. The effect is created on you upon use of a shatter skill. This triggers some “on-shatter” traits, but not all.

Vigorous Revelation (III): 10 points in inspiration
“Shattering Illusions grants vigor to nearby allies.”

An illusion does not need to be shattered to trigger this trait if you are using Illusory Persona. This leads to the conclusion that Illusory Persona makes the player count “as an illusion” as well.

Restorative Illusions (XII): 30 points in inspiration
“Heal a small amount when you shatter illusions.”

Functions in-line with Vigorous Revelation: an illusion does not need to be shattered to trigger this trait if you are using Illusory Persona. In addition Illusory Persona also adds to the amount healed.

Shattered Strength: 25 points in illusions
“Shattering Illusions grants you one stack of might per illusion (10 seconds).”

Works contrary to Vigorous Revelation and Restorative Illusions, as it does not grant a stack of might upon use of a shatter with zero illusions out, but with Illusory Persona active. Also Illusory Persona does not give you an extra stack of might when other illusions ARE shattered.

Shattered Conditions (XI): 30 points in inspiration
“Using a shatter skill removes a condition.”

The condition is only removed if an illusion is shattered, contrary to the description saying “using a shatter skill”. In addition, having Illusory Persona active does not trigger Shattered Conditions. In both cases, having zero illusions out will cause Shattered Conditions to have no effect.

Confusing Cry (II): 10 points in illusions
“Cry of Frustration grants retaliation.”

As with Shattered Conditions, this trait only triggers if you have an illusion out when a shatter skill is activated. Does not trigger with zero illusions, even when Illusory Persona is active.

Conclusions:
First, there needs to be a clarification made on whether the player is counted “as an illusion” for the purposes of Illusory Persona, or if it is purely for the sake of creating an extra shatter effect.

Second, there needs to be a distinction made between “using a shatter skill” and “shattering illusions”. I feel that these two terms, while meaning very different things, are being used interchangeably.

Third, there needs to be a rewording for traits liking Confusing Cry to detail the exact circumstances under which the trait will trigger (refer to my second conclusion).

Mesmer Shatter Traits

in Suggestions

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

Hi there,

I recently contacted support with this issue, and was told that the best way to attract developer attention would be to create a thread in the suggestion forum. In my eyes, this is clearly a bug. I have not offered any suggestions, as I trust the developers to make the right decisions here.

However since I was told it would be a good idea, I am starting a thread here as well. So let me offer a few suggestions to solve this problem:

  1. Before adding things to the game, make sure that the language used is consistent with language previously used in the game. Things should be referred to using the same terms with the same meanings, so as not to obscure communication to the players.
  2. With this specific issue, I suggest that each trait that triggers on-shatter be reworded and reworked to trigger “when a shatter is performed” OR “when a shatter skill is successfully activated”, and have that stated clearly in the tooltip. What’s the difference, you say? This change would mainly be to make all shatter-related traits function consistently with regards to the Illusory Persona trait. Note that a “successful shatter skill activation” requires at least one illusion out, and/or Illusory Persona active. Consider the following scenarios, and how they should work:
  • I shatter with zero illusions and no Illusory Persona. Nothing happens, and my shatter skill goes on the 3 second “failed cast” cool down.
  • I shatter with 1-3 illusions and no Illusory Persona. Every illusion creates the desired effect at the location of its shatter, when it shatters. For traits that involve self/ally buffing, perhaps all trait effects should be applied as soon as the shatter is used. The main concern here is how to deal with illusions that do not properly shatter (illusion destroyed before it reaches its target, or the target becomes invalid). Either way it should be clearly outlined in the tooltip how the trait will trigger.
  • I shatter with 0-3 illusions and Illusory Persona active. The main choice here is whether or not the player counts as “an illusion” or “the location of a shatter”. Draw this distinction, and there should not be much difference between a player creating a shatter, and an illusion immediately shattering upon use of a shatter skill (like with Distortion, which instantly shatters all illusions). Additionally, all traits that trigger “on shatter” should trigger when Illusory Persona is active.

Let’s take a look at the 5 traits I mentioned, and how they would now function with Illusory Persona active:

Restorative Illusions:
“Heal a small amount when you shatter illusions.”

0 illusions: The player is healed by the base amount + an extra amount for having one shatter. This is how it currently works.
1+ illusions: They player is healed by the base amount + an extra amount for each shatter, including the player’s shatter. This is how it currently works. At the moment, the player heals the full amount immediately. This makes sense functionally as the heal is small and would be much less powerful if you had to wait for your illusions to successfully shatter. If you changed it so that each illusion had to successfully shatter to create a heal, the heal must be increased in turn. Either way, clearly outline it with language such as “when a shatter is performed” or “when you successfully activate a shatter skill”.

  • Vigorous Revelation: same as above, replace heal with vigor.
  • Shattered Strength: same as above, replace heal with might.
  • Shattered Conditions: same as above, replace heal with remove condition. May be limited to one condition removed for balance.
  • Confusing Cry: same as above, replace heal with retaliation.

As you can see, all the traits now function under the same guidelines, but may individually be changed to trigger on successful shatter skill activation, or when an illusion/player shatters (your choice).

From what I’ve learned by my own playstyle, more time in the game does not = legendary. Although it SHOULD. I’d really like to see people with legendaries and say “wow that guy put a lot of work into this game”. But really if you are going for a legendary, you are playing a different game. You are not playing Guild Wars 2, you are playing Legendary Hunt. No matter how many hours we put in, you and I will never get legendaries the way we play. You need to farm a certain way, do certain things, ignore a lot of fun content, and see the game differently to get a legendary. But you know what, I love GW2 and would never give it up for a legendary hunt. So if it happens after a couple years for me, it happens. But I would NOT gauge your completion of the game based on whether or not you have a legendary. That’s a different game all together.

ANet, seriously, take a breath and slow down!

in Living World

Curo.2483

I agree. I love the story just as much as the content itself. Some people like to have everything laid out for them, then complain that the content is not complex enough. I found this quite hypocritical. It’s like reading all the spoilers before watching a movie, then complaining that the movie didn’t surprise you or catch your attention. And how does this affect us people that actually want to enjoy the secrets and plot twists? Well, ANet seems to be catering to those people that want everything right in front of them, for fear of losing player base. I understand that being obscure will alienate a lot of your playerbase – those who like instant gratification and cannot appreciate the term “plot development”. However you are in turn alienating the group of people who respect your work and want to experience or feel every little bit of it. I shouldn’t have to unsubscribe from the GW2 fb page, not read update notes, stay off the forums, not read new achievements, and turn off map chat just to experience what I think should be a great feeling of discovering something amazing you have created for me.

That being said, I can’t friggen wait for Sky Pirates! I kind of wish I wasn’t told exactly what is where and who I will be fighting, and what I will have to do. That first moment that I saw an Aetherblade pop out during the effigy-lighting instance should have been an amazing shock, and experience full of wonder and fear. However due to achievement spoilers, people data mining, and common conversation in LA, I was completely expecting it. I’m one of those people that loves to experience the amazing stories that people write, so please stop spoiling it, and let me immerse myself in your creativity!

Guild Missions without Dulfy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

I do agree that I would love to be able to discover this content, and any content for that matter, on my own (I don’t mean solo, but I mean without an external aid).

I also agree that it is near-impossible without a guide. Even if you fail a dozen or so attempts at first, the only way you will be able to do future missions is if you create your own guide. Dulfy helps with this because not everyone has the time/resources/player network to be able to do this without great frustration, or even giving up.

Regardless of the difficulty of a new challenge, there will always be people that want instant gratification and do not want to experience the content themselves. So they will turn to guides, no matter how simple. A perfect example is initiating living story: you are given mail, world event text, heralds, and news announcements to make it possible to find it on your own, however some people will always stand in town asking for the answer, or look online before ever even trying. Unfortunately for us, it seems that ANet believes it is a good idea to try and force a challenge on those who are not willing to take the challenge. What I mean by this is that it seems they are putting so much detail/difficulty into guild missions that the regular ‘instant-gratification players’ can’t be bothered to give it their time. I like this because I don’t like to bother with those types of players, however it ends up turning me into one of them for the purpose of these missions, which ruins the experience for myself. IMO it would be better to make moderately difficult content that people could experience if they want, rather than making incredibly difficult content that ultimately requires the use of a guide. It seems that the increased difficulty is only there to overwhelm the ‘instant-gratification players’ that are already overwhelmed by any kind of challenge. And of course the end result is that you scare people away from your content in general, because anyone wanting to have a natural feeling game experience will be frustrated beyond belief.

I was looking forward to guild missions, however I do not enjoy them because I always have to open a guide and it makes me feel like I’m just working off a checklist rather than actively experiencing content.

Guild Rush is the only one I think is designed with appropriate difficulty. You get ample time to find the location, and then you don’t need a guide to complete the mission itself. Yet the mission does require timing, skill, and coordination. It doesn’t feel trivial nor overwhelming.

Some challenges and puzzles are also decent, however I haven’t done enough of them to make a good conclusion. Definitely though the bounties and treks, as well as some of the puzzles and challenges are overly difficult (here’s looking at you Langmar Estate).

2) Any new content is going to get jumped on by players. Anything short of an instance will cause this.

3) I get 16 fps standing alone in an empty field, on minimum graphics settings, and 3 fps in zerged events. I don’t complain. I still have fun. Try playing on my computer, then go back to yours and see that you are really making this more of an issue than it is. I’d love to have a minimum of 10-15 fps like you do. Quit complaining!

So some of my chat tabs are permanently red, as if I had an unread message on those tabs. This has been happening to me since I started playing many months ago. Any idea what causes this and how to fix it? I can recreate the tabs, but then I still get the red label.

A little note: the tab that gets stuck red most often is my guild tab. Just guild chat. Would it be registering chat from other guilds (that I’m not currently representing) as unread? Might it be glitching because different characters are repping different guilds?

what is wvw like on your server? and how is the competition?

The competition is great. Our matchups are often very even, now that the rankings have settled a bit. Of course with mass transfers to many servers inevitable, there is no telling how this will change. What I know is that over the past few months, we have neither rolled nor been rolled. Because of the lower WvW population on NSP, every guild and every player that makes a difference will stand out. Nobody gets drowned out in a sea of allies, and likewise we know the same of our opponents. We know their guilds and who to look out for on the field of battle.

From a numbers point of view, you will rarely see queues outside of reset night. Zergs are not so large that one person feels insignificant, and the majority of combat in WvW happens in groups of less than 20 players. Keeps are often flipped by groups as small as ~5 or 10, so one extra person can always make a difference. Our tight network of players and guilds allows us to produce numbers when needed, or to give you some people to play with when the map feels lonely. Our more seasoned commanders are known for setting up impromptu map raids, in addition to our scheduled event runs. That being said, on guild nights and weekly reset, our large guilds are able to field organized groups of 30-40 people. When these guilds work together over maps, magical things can happen. Even still, we are always looking for extra people to help retake camps, run yaks and upgrades, manage keeps/towers, scout, etc.

What sets NSP apart from other servers in our bracket is the huge amount of WvW organization and training initiatives we participate in. Our server has a huge PvE population, and over the past 5 months or so we have been running events, lessons, giveaways, sponsorships, and cross-guild collaborations to help move this population into WvW. It works for us because the WvW population we have is very skilled and dedicated.

In terms of attitude, we have identified a core group of players and guilds who want to make a positive impact on the WvW scene, and together as the Northern Shiverpeaks Council, we reach out to everyone on the server to become better every day. We function not as an alliance or governing body, but as a group of like-minded players who want to work together towards a common goal. Every single player on our server is welcome to help us in this endeavor, and we meet every week to talk about our strategies and server building initiatives. Gone are the days of upstarts and toxic attitudes on the server. When you see the positive impact and attitude that the majority of NSP brings to the table, you can’t help but want to join in.

Where skill is concerned, we have a lot of very experienced players with a diversity of expertise. Some of these players find their niche in things like small-man fight teams under the banners of guilds like Holy, SPCA, and tM. Others prefer larger collaborative efforts and run in large guild groups, with players of varying skill levels under the banners of Os, ZoS, MeSi, TFG and MOO. While others still step up and become known as commanders and leaders on the server, under the banners of PB, EL, AoT, and more. And best of all, all these guilds (and more than I can even list) work together every night to combine their strengths. We use the expertise of our more experienced players to help build the next generation of WvWers as more and more players flow in from the PvE scene as well as other servers.

We run many events every week. Some are hosted as server-wide initiatives, while others are guild-hosted events that are often open to the public. We teach new players the basics of WvW structure, we have experienced players give tips on specific professions, we have groups of players collaborate to use their characters in new and useful ways, and we have great leaders and commanders run field events and structured combat.

I hope that starts to answer your question, friend

I’m going to try and summarize what I think people are saying here, so you can all try and understand how it works.

  1. Supply decreases (via nerfs/bug fixes), yet demand remains the same, so prices increase.
  2. The price of any given item in this situation will rise until the amount of time to farm one unit = the amount of time to farm the gold to buy one unit
  3. If you can get dust faster by farming cof1, the price of dust will increase up until the point where it takes the same amount of effort to get dust, no matter what your method
  4. This process will be gradual, but will eventually give us the “true value” of dust
  5. Through future nerfs/buffs to farming dust or gold in general, the true value will change

If you can’t get on for an hour in a period of 2 weeks for the dungeon, or for 5 min in a period of 4 days for the finale, you really shouldn’t be worrying about missing out on the content. Guild Wars 2 is obviously not a big enough part of your life to warrant a complaint. If you really think GW2 content is such an important thing in your life, perhaps you should restructure your life around GW2. I mean, it can’t be THAT hard to log on once to do this content. However if you don’t think it’s worth restructuring your life, then you should just be enjoying the things that you have in your life that you think are more worthwhile spending your time on. It is a role-playing game, and if you’re lucky enough to have a role in your real life that’s worth playing, you should be happy with that and not trying to fit in a second life. I WISH I could complain about not having time to play games

Why do you display a certain title?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

I’m curious as to what titles people like to display and why. Do you do it because it’s the newest title available? Do you do it because it sounds cool? Do you do it because it shows some achievement or prestige? Do you do it because you don’t have access to any others? Tell me! I’ll start.

I started off displaying “Flameseeker” because it has a nice ring to it and I liked the connection to GW1. Also I didn’t want to have the same title as every other person who just displayed their highest HoM title.

After I got 100% completion, I started displaying “Been There, Done That” because I didn’t see many people at the time showing it. It felt prestigious to me, as I was the first of my friends to get it, and 100% completion was my first major accomplishment in the game.

But then that title became rather common, and it’s redundant since you have the star anyways. So, I began displaying “Distinction in Applied Jumping”. I felt that this was a fairly difficult title to achieve, as you had to be really diligent to collect all the baubles. It was kind of like another explorer title for me. I also love the name since I’m a big fan of jumping puzzles (done them all), and always wanted a jumping-related title.

I’m not going to display “Avenger of the Dispossessed” since everyone and their mother (happy mother’s day) is displaying it right now. Although it does sound pretty cool. Same thing with the Halloween and Wintersday titles; I felt they were too common.

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

The ideal balance point we’d like to have is with the scaling and more exciting encounters we have now, so it’s actually fun and at least remotely challenging to play there, but also rewarding as well. The reward systems we want to roll out to support those areas are part of a larger reward revamp and aren’t done yet, but are on their way and tie more strongly into the comprehensive system we’re trying to develop, thus the swap.

Just a note: when you make encounters more difficult to attract more players, remember that it causes lag. Lag makes it harder for people to engage in active combat. Ideally, the hardest content in the game would require everyone to be active in combat, rather than ‘afk 1-spamming’. To achieve this goal without making the encounter itself unplayable, you may have to end up spreading the content out so that not everyone is mashed into one little room, or limit the number of players at these events. At the moment, I enjoy the way the Orr events work, but I know that if people are zerging them and I get targeted by a monster, there is no way for me to survive, due to lag.

HoD Does Not Want You: Seriously

in Looking for...

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

HoD…CD…all just different ways to spell “bags” IMO. All this drama and bandwagoning is really working out for servers like NSP that have a strong core that isn’t being threatened by immense amounts of transfers/leavers (although we did inherit a few trolls).

Yeah HoD is gonna have the highest score. They have 100-200 man queues vs servers that field like 10 people at some times of the day. But when HoD’s opponents are playing strong, HoD is just another way to spell “bags”. Really guys, do you want to endure long queues just to jump directly into my inventory? I don’t think so!

So don’t transfer to HoD. And don’t transfer to NSP either. CD might want you, I don’t know. Ask them. But honestly, try putting some effort into your own server, rather than trying to piggyback off the work other people have put into making servers good. It takes a bit of effort and is far from instant gratification, but if you intend to stick with the game, it’s definitely the way to go. Make a name for yourself, run some events on your server, and try and feel some kind of pride for your server, rather than just being a number. You’ve probably all seen screenshots of “NSP Pride”. It feels awesome. So go now and make your servers proud. Be strong! Don’t transfer.

Unfortunately, real-world selling tactics don’t work here. Players do not have to (nor can they really) “shop around”. The absolute lowest price in the WORLD is immediately given to them, and all specific products are equal. They have no reason to not buy the cheapest item. It’s not harder for them to find, it’s not lower quality, it doesn’t have any extra fees or waiting time. This market is instant and perfect, and undercutting by 1c will always be the best option, unless you think you can set a price low enough that nobody will want to undercut you. The only thing we have control over is the fact that we are all equal in this system, and can all undercut each other. So we have to.

I am neutral on undercutting in terms of economies and value. However I am against it for one thing that makes us unequal: there is no cost to post a buy order, so the person that is able to be at the computer the most is able to “overcut” the most. For example: I can log on once a day and post the highest buy price, but if someone else is constantly monitoring that item and is able to “overcut” me every 5 minutes, I have very little chance of ever having my buy order fulfilled. This favours people that are able to constantly be online, whereas sell listings favours nobody, since they have a listing fee (you could infinitely undercut but you would lose all your money).

Do accounts have "luck", and is it right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I understand and accept the claims of biases and memory flaws. I’m proposing that given we have a large community with years of data perceived, perhaps we can identify patterns and trends and use this empirical evidence to come to some sort of conclusion, rather than dismissing these claims with the usual statements such as the ones above. We have no proof that accounts can be lucky, you say, aside from anecdotal evidence. Well, we also have no proof that accounts can’t be lucky.

Again, I understand and accept the flaws of the human brain, but I propose that we look past those flaws, and look at the actual evidence at hand. Perhaps there is more at work than just “RNG”.

How can you guys accept that over 1000’s of hours and 100’s of exotic drops (using precursors as an example), the results vary so much. How can some people reliably get upwards of 20+ precursors in the time that others get none? You can’t call that variance, over 1000’s of hours and 100’s of drops. That is quite a large sample size. And even going farther than that, most “lucky” people have gotten more drops than “unlucky” players who have played 10x longer.

Whether or not you want to face the truth of it, your lucky friend is going to continuously be lucky. He’ll keep on getting the better drops, and you’ll keep using “random chance” to explain it, even though you can predict reliably that it’s going to happen. The odds of one person winning a coin flip 100 times in a row (starting from the first flip) are astronomical, so how is it that we see that happen so often? Perhaps with a pool of 10,000 people, you could say I only notice the outliers. However in my small circle of 30 people in my guild, why are the outcomes of these drops so kitten predictable?

I feel like so many people have been trained to just spit out the same answers that they take as fact, and don’t consider the fact that perhaps the drop system is flawed. Why can’t you even consider that? Do you really think ANet is so incapable of making a flawed system, that you ignore the evidence in front of you?

What is the logic behind giving a class the ability to immobilize me, then 2-shot me, all in the span of less than one second, from stealth. Top Commanders?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

To be honest, most people with commander tags in WvW have them because they want to command. You don’t get PvE only players going into WvW and leading armies to their death, since PvE players stick to PvE. Also a lot of WvW players that do have commander tags buy them specifically because they love WvW and want to help out there, but because they care so much about it, they don’t tag up in fear that they will screw things up. So really, you don’t see many inexperienced commanders in WvW.

However I do agree that there should be WvW requirements for becoming a commander in WvW. It just seems right.

As a lifetime Thief the last thing I wanna do is to scream nerf on a sister class, but I gotta call shenanigans on this one. “Oh no, we only have 3 invulnerability skills!” … you’re bleeding me, right? As a Thief we have … oh, what’s that, none? And just to balance things out they butchered stealth for PvE too? Huh … not feeling a lot of sympathy here.

Seriously, sucks for anyone what gets nerfed every time they turn around – we Thieves know all about that – but maybe you’re focusing on the wrong “weak points” in your class here.

Who needs invulnerability when you have perma stealth?

I think this is a great idea, but it’s too little too late. Most of the decent WvW guilds have jumped ship from low tier servers already. Low coverage = low coverage no matter who you are playing against. Sure it will make for a better primetime, but overnight, the higher WvW population server is still going to be the one that wins.

Agreed. An out of place rant by an emotional person that does not understand the game, nor the meaning of the phrase “I could care less”.

Yes, you will never get a legendary.

Yes, gear is an issue in WvW. If you have the PvP skill to make up for it, you may survive in small fights, but not against zergs/siege.

No, 80s is not standard for a new lv 80. My friend just reached lv 80 with 10g. He is a casual.

No, guilds are not useless for finding groups. Find a better guild. I’d suggest joining mine, but I don’t like you.

No, you do not need to know how to speed farm to run any dungeon. That is unless you are trying to speed farm a specific dungeon. Then, duh. I ran all the dungeons with no knowledge of how to run them, and with pug groups before I even hit level 80.

No, PvP is in no way related to cowardice, bravery, manliness, member size, or anything of that sort. It is strategy based. If you want to 1v1 someone to the death to prove your 1v1 skill, join Fight Club. When you are doing a 5v5 match with capture points as the focus, do not judge anyone’s skill or personal qualities based on their ability to 1v1 you.

No, one could not care less. That’s the point. If one could care less, that implies that one actually does care, which one doesn’t.

In the future, if you have problems, ask the community. We are active and helpful. Don’t rant, make assumptions/generalizations, or insult ANet, and above all, do not let a game make you sad.

I understand that it would be a cool thing to sneak in to reward people for “enjoying” the content, but at this point, the vast majority of people that still play SAB are mainly just farming it. And really, we’re wasting hours of our time if there has been a change made. It would be indecent not to tell us.

I would like to see this reportable. I’ve heard of lots of guilds running with pugs and kicking people at the final boss. This should not be accepted.

However I think it needs to be a very loose restriction because if somebody deserves to be kicked for whatever reason, and it happens to be at the final boss, they should be kicked. This happened once in a party of mine where we had an elitist kittenmuffin insulting the team the whole way through the dungeon, and we got fed up near the end and kicked him.

How to motivate our commander? Suggestion?

in WvW

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

What kittenes me off the most when commanding PUG’s is when I’m about to engage an enemy and most of my PUG’s get one pushed because they’re using PVE builds.

To add on this – the PvE mentality is: stand in one place spamming skills, dodging if you take some damage. This simply does NOT cut it for WvW. You need to be proactive rather than reactionary in WvW, in addition to catering your build to fit the team. The commander will move you around to avoid damage, and call out when damage spikes are needed to capitalize on an enemy’s weakness. In a WvW zerg, you are part of a larger body, rather than a PvE zerg where you are one person trying to get in tags while you wait for something to eventually die to minimal effort. Just look at the difference between how people fight teq and how they fight shatterer. If you play WvW like you are fighting something that basically doesn’t fight back, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

The same reason people fail in WvW is the reason they fail more dynamic fights like Vine Wrath. They are used to putting in minimal effort because they’ve been taught that they can be rewarded by it. GW2 trains its players to be lazy rather than active, despite the active combat system. PvE was originally made to be WAY too easy, and that has stuck into the bulk of players’ heads.

Worth coming back?

Curo.2483

So you devoured all available content by playing 10+ hours per day, ground your way to shiny nirvana, then got bored? Well, you’ll probably still be bored after you’ve devoured the new flame&frost content in under a day.

This.

I’m quite sick of all the “GW is boring” threads posted by people who play every day like it’s the last day they will ever get to play. There is a limited amount of content, and even the replayable content will get boring if you play it nonstop. It takes thousands upon thousands of hours to play through all of GW and do everything, get everything. Yet people do it as fast as possible and complain when it’s over.

And if you haven’t played that much, it’s because you’re not willing to try the rest of the game. This is just like my friend who complains how boring PvE is, but has never left Kryta or gone past lv 40. Yes if you grind the same centaur events 100 times, it gets boring. Same issue, smaller scale.

Now as for actually answering your question, Flame & Frost has released a really cool dungeon that you’d enjoy, but only for a day. Also check the patch notes and see if there were any good changes to the things that you like to play the most. That’s what I’d do if I were in your position. Can’ be bothered? Well tell us what you like to play, and maybe someone will be willing to do the reading for you.

Completely Unbalanced WvW matchups.

in WvW

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

As someone who has been pretty involved with NSP for a while, I’ll just tell you a few things. We were rank 15 at the end of the last tournament, and may have temporarily dropped a few ranks when burnout hit and we had some bronze matchups. Since then, I’d say our rise to 8th place is 50% higher tier servers weakening, 25% regulars coming back to the game, and 25% transfers from SoR. We also saw the development of a strong fight-oriented WvW guild other than [Os].

Currently, I’d say NSP and IoJ are almost neck and neck with the tier 4 servers such as DH, SBI, and HoD. However, the gap between us and those above us is IMMENSE. We do realize that SoS is the weakest of the 4 tier 2 servers, however that only means the difference between them having 80% of the score or 75% of the score. It’s really not fun when the enemy can field 3 times the people on one map that you can field on all 4 maps. We’ve got our strong NA primetime where we can usually queue a map, but beyond that, WvW is a deadzone. I really do see SoS starting to weaken a lot, and I hope that continues to the point where we can have some good competition.

Until then, I encourage anyone stuck in this matchup, whether NSP, IoJ, or SBI to stay strong and support your server. These matchups are not indicative of your strength as a server or a community. I know that a lot of us have worked very hard to create a strong community on NSP, and I hope that keeps people around for the long haul. Transferring servers for short-term benefit often leads to long-term disappointment.

1. Commander Functionality
2. WvW population/coverage disparities
3. Player tracking

A note on #3, as I’m probably the only one that will mention it:
It would be great to have a way for all players to know where people are on the current map. At the moment, only commanders are visible. I would also like guild groups and scouts to be able to have a way to communicate their location without using chat. A “scout tag” much like the commander tag would be nice. This would let both single strategically-minded players and large guild groups instantly know where they should be, and what’s happening where. There is often too much to be described just through chat, and it is confusing to try and keep track of everything happening on maps.

This is a simpler version of what I’d like to see available to commanders as part of a “commander functionality” improvement.

New matchup system (official info)

in WvW

Posted by: Curo.2483

Curo.2483

The only thing that worries me, is that matchups like these won’t be competitive:

I think the point of this new system is that the old ratings are not an accurate measure of a server’s skill. You are constantly facing the same servers over and over and it takes 4+ “match-up resets” of constantly winning/losing to even have a shot at a different opponent. There could be a really bad server in tier 2, but it just hasn’t had the chance to drop down in ranking fast enough because it takes so long to do so. And by the time a server has found it’s proper place in the rankings, all the servers have completely changed (new players/guilds, players/guilds leaving, strategy/commanders changing).

But for me the main benefit of this new system is not to “find your place in the ranking”, but rather to experience new opponents and develop new strategies to adapt. I’m sure playing against BG is a lot different than playing against GoM, and now we are going to see a trend towards experiencing those differences. WvW gets boring when 2 worlds can choose to gang up on another world and constantly make them lose, or when a world has their weaknesses exploited constantly. If we face new worlds, they won’t know our weaknesses/strengths, and they won’t have the framework in place for beating us. More is left unknown, and more is possible. It’s exciting!

Official explanation for temporary content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Curo.2483

Colin will there ever be a part of Fractals that allow us to play a recap of old content?
Stuff like that would be a win-win for those who want Fractals and others who long to play older stuff as well.

When I said we could update or change an existing dungeon, updating fractals in the future is one of the options that’s fully possible yes. And of course since fractals lets us experience moments trapped in time….it’s entirely possible some content may make its way there as part of a living world update.

I think Fractals is going to be the PERFECT way to bring back limited-time content. The other way of course is what you guys have done with the existing dungeons: adding explorable mode. Either way, we can experience the dungeon content forever, without it feeling like it doesn’t fit into the timeline of the game world.
