Sorry arenanet, what were you possibly thinking when making this change for new players? This almost seems like this would turn people away instead of sticking with it

Again… That video is NOT accurate .. hardly at all. Check my post a few up with the thread of the things that are NOT locked.

Ooooh, someone’s mad! First of all this week is dedicated to releases of PvP/WvW for the Feature pack so everything they are going to be talking about is for…. brace yourself, PvP/WvW!!!! Get over yourself. You have NO idea whats in store for the other two weeks of Feature Pack Announcements. Calm your kittens and relax a bit. PvP deserves some TLC just as much as the rest of the game. I enjoy PvP a lot in this game even if I AM mostly a PvE player.

Paradox.1380

If you guys looked around some and stopped being narrowminded, you’d know what the rough and general plan is for the next coming of things. That have over 300 people working on their game. There is most definitely things coming. Also, we’ve known for a long time now that they are splitting up development to be “Living Story Season, Break, Feature Pack, Break (maybe some Festival here and there like now), LS, Break, etc” You see the pattern?! Most companies take 6 months to a year to bring out ANYTHING at all. And when they do drop a new expansion/content update people consume it like ravenous wolves. Pace yourself, do something else (even play a different game as you obviously aren’t missing anything if you are this whiny about lack of updates) for awhile and you will barely notice the lack of “content” as you say. I for one was glad for the break form LS to catch up on some other goals.

For the record, there is no reason not to do something else for awhile if you are upset or frustrated, or even just bored. There is no reason to limit yourself to one game only, this isn’t “The MMO That Shalt Not Be Named” and taking a break isn’t going to set you back. and if you WANT to play GW2, there are many things in the interim for you to work on I am sure. I don’t see your name (OP) on the AP leaderboards. So, obviously you have stuff you can work on. =)

I honestly think you guys need to calm down. Its not that big of deal, almost every MMO I’ve every played Level/Skill Point gates off their skills to help with NEW players learning the game giving them time to adapt, etc. They have tested this in China, they KNOW how their game plays to new people. As a player you only have one side of the experience, they have both ends. Why don’t you just let the people do their jobs? Its not even that big of a deal really.

It is not a big deal for you. And what people do here is called feedback, which is necessary for a game’s development. I complain about the game because I care, if I didn’t care I would simply play something else.

I’m all for feedback, and I understand that. Complaining without offering anything of a solution, however is NOT feedback it is whining. There are ways (a stickied thread even) about how to give constructive, proper feedback. That’s why I stated people needed to calm down. The world isn’t going down in flames because they are trying to make their game a little easier to play.

Is Reddit a more authoritative source for Anet staff comments than the forums ?

It would be so nice if we had a thread to go in the forums for comments like this.

ANet Staff Comment on Forums/Reddit on their own time (it’s been stated numerous times they don’t tell people where to post and no one that works at ANet aside form the Community team HAVE to post). They do it because they want to or they have a free moment. Many of them post on their off days or after work on Reddit.

You do NOT need to use all 9. You need 11 achievements to fill the Meta and unlock the Item. At least 7 of them aren’t profession dependent at all. So at most you’d need to win 5 games with 4.

LOL, thanks guys… I guess my husband has a point, this could be used as “therapy”

My therapist recommended social gaming to me. I am bi-polar with severe and rather debilitating social anxiety. It’s hard for me to connect with people in the real world and even harder to hold down things like jobs because of it.

My therapist explained some stuff I don’t even understand yet but that things like Gaming are great ways to open up to relax, and to allow your mind to grow.

There have also been studies that show almost any kind of gaming activates parts of your brain and help with concentration, time management, Cognitive and Critical thinking skills. Also “twitch” gaming helps with eye-hand coordination and fast paced reaction.

So in a sense you are right there it can be therapy.

I did not read the complete thread but from the OP’s first post…

“Every time i see a staff ele i force myself not to vote kick it from a dungeon, instead i grind my teeth and watch it how he/she spams fireballs with no attument switch ever and then die max range from all of us. "

Well excuse me Mr. Perfect but if you spend so much time watching to see if a staff ele switches attunements then exactly how much are you contributing to the effort? I have used my staff ele numerous times against bosses and although I tend to stay in fire I will swap to water for healing purposes then back to fire. Since it takes 10 seconds to swap back into fire after swapping out then you would have to be focusing your attention on your party bar to see what attunement the ele is in for 10 seconds at a time.

Edit: Ever stop to think that perhaps the reason the staff ele died at range is that they spent their time in water to heal the group instead of themselves? Of course you did not think about that as it is about you!

By the way I have 9 level 80s and am quite aware of how each of the professions work!

You’ve missed the point of this thread, lol. Just saying. Try not to judge others for their confessions. If they are confessing them they obviously know there is some Taboo in feeling/thinking how they do. Its not YOUR right to judge anyway, because I am sure you have some less than desirable things about you when it comes to the game.

raid ? in gw2 ? isn’t Teq and the 3-headed Wurm kinda raid content already ?

Open world raid content, yes they are. And I’d imagine more coming World Bosses will likely be done in the same manner, and they did at one point mention the idea of instanced content that could require more than 5 players.

I wouldn’t think that they would do it in a traditional sense though, so be cautionary with your excitement about it. They will likely go at it in a GW2’s style.

You can still do everything you used to do! In fact with HoT you have even more things you can do on your time and when you want to do it.

Adding things for players who want them doesn’t take away from your experiences. Raid’s aren’t mandatory, they aren’t part of the main storyline (they are side stories), and some of the rewards are tradeable.

You said a lot of words but failed to convey what it is you are wanting? They gave more of the same stuff in the new maps you can do at your own pace (sans dungeons because they want to move away from them and Fractals is their new focus for 5-man content).

How about you…. Go through look up what traits you think you might want? And unlock those first to try out your build. Or go into Heart of the mists and play around in there with different ones until you find some you like. Then either go out and collect THOSE traits doing whatever it takes to get them or simply buy them? And then later on get more as you grow with learning your new profession. Its not that expensive at all. You prepared the tomes and crafting mats/money to level why didn’t you go all the way with skill point scrolls and the needed money for the traits?

I’ve made several new characters and while I don’t really care for the new trait system there are ways around it.

Electric Wyvern location: Was this necessary?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

The Electric Wyvern is easy to get to. You don’t need Advanced Gliding (I don’t even have that) you just have to do the meta event and get to the boss chest. Once you get that you jump onto the vine and glide across (I did this with just level 2 Gliding) to the area with the PoI and the Vista and there is a bunch of the Wyverns there.

The pet is a perk it’s not necessary to have, he’s not even got the best stats of the new pets (in fact the best ones are gotten in the first maps). It’s not that’s difficult to get especially as time goes on and people get more familiar with how the meta works.

Bugs happen and they are working VERY hard to fix it. You can QA all you want and still have trouble on live. I’ve never played and online game that didn’t have some kind of major bug when new content was released. You cannot possibly test all the outcomes because there is no way to simulate live status.

I just wonder if a dev will recognize this, and be awe struck that someone else, not a dev, came up with this design, or just shrug it off, and be like “eh, ours is better”.

I think it’s a compliment to the devs that did the original design. This guy simply took what was already there, and made it more user friendly.

And like Chris Whiteside said in the CDI – Guilds – Logistics and QoL thread:

“Please note this is not a competition, either between yourselves or the developers in regard to one up man ship. The point of this Initiative is to work together to make the game better.”

And this would make the game better. At least imo.

ANet has a good habit of recognizing peoples work and not shrug it off. our LFG system in game is an almost direct port from an old external website we used to use. And from what I know through various threads about it the creators of said tool was consulted or at least spoken to about it.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

I really think level gating the profession F1-F4 skills was a terrible idea. Rangers will not have control over their pet until level 24. So every time a mob hits the ranger and the pet begins attacking, there is no way to recall it. When the ranger begins fighting something else, the pet will disengage, drag the previous mob with it, and engage the new target. Because most pets can’t handle 2 mobs at a time as a low level, it will die. Since rangers can’t switch pets until level 24, the ranger will become the new punching bag for the mobs.

You get your pet pant at level 7, and you get the Alt Skill shortly after that . . . Why are people blowing this outta proportion?

Hey Corvus! I never heard of you before (which is a shame on me cause wow I love your composes videos!) but thanks to this post I found a new person to subscribe to! I won’t be entering a t-shirt contest since I couldn’t wear it if I won it (they never go to my size) but I think that is a cool thing to do and I just wanted to let you know you earned a new sub from me today out of your sheer awesomeness.

Since I am not entering the contest on your page I will put why I love GW2 here: I love Guild Wars 2 for many reasons. The most important of which has been that people I ahve known from other games have migrated here and we are able to continue our journey, and even though everyone is at different stages in the game we can all still get together any play when we all find the time. The community as a whole has a lot of loud, kind voices and level headed-discussions even debates can happen in the actual game world! I had one such experience the other day when talking about HoT things. It was amazing and people in the map were like “Wow I’ve never see an actual conversation happen on LA Map Chat that didn’t devolve into insults.” A third reason I cherish Guild Wars 2 is my sense of belonging. I feel like I am part of this community I help make it what it is and I contribute. With every player I lend a helping hand to, with every “This game is for fun there is no ‘best’ class, but here are your options based on what you said you want to get out of the game” piece of advice I get to give a new player I am communicating the spirit of this game. That is why I love GW2 so much, because I feel like I am a part of this world it is a big part of my life RL and otherwise and so many wonderful things have happened that the blips of bad are almost always off my radar.

Uh, no you can’t.

Prior to HoT, one could chose to ignore LS1 and LS2. If that type of platform-skin-chasing-game-play whas not what not you wished to do, it was entirely optional, and had no impact on those of us which focused on PvP and/or WvW for our end game content.

With the issue of LS3 (…I’m sorry, I mean HoT…) you must do the content to unlock a core mechanics (i.e. the Elite Trait line for your profession). This is an entirely different direction that the game has taken. And yet, you seem to just gloss over this fact….

None of those are necessary and you can use the Elite Spec in pvp without unlocking it in the game, and they gave WvW players a way to earn it exclusively in WvW.

So portals should still be allowed but not gliding. Ok…

Because portals can be sold, gliding cannot?

So basically, allowing people to use gliding to do something themselves, you want it restricted so you can profit off of it? That doesn’t sound like a good reason to restrict it further at all. That sound selfish on your part. Personally, having a couple mesmers has always made JPs easier for me because I can use portal any time there was a risky jump. Getting tipped because I portaled someone somewhere has also been nice, but its no reason for someone to NOT be able to use gliding.

I know that people want only Armor skins because you can take parts and make your own unique armor skin.

We can have both. Why does it always have to be one or the other? We’ve gotten both lately. In fact two new sets of armor were put in the game for us to earn IN game.

Also, people don’t ONLY want armor skins. I LOVE outfits. I never have to use Transmutation Charges. I can dye them all and I can wear them while I am leveling new characters, etc etc. Its great.

You Can Do ALL (almost) the Things Still

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

Hold Your Ponies! you CAN do almost everything you used to be able to do with the old system. I posted this in another thread but after some thought I felt it would be nice to post it here and let people know.

This is accurate after making a new character last night and getting it to level 20 (which took me about 2 hours).

You can do almsot ALL of that stuff without ever leaving your home city, FYI. They TEACH you if you haven’t already known of those functions (You know for NEW people). If you already know how to do it, just do it. There are only a few things you can’t do.

What You Can Do At Level 1:
Dodge
Dye Armor
Harvest Materials (go into the city when you get outta the first story and buy some Gathering Tools form a crafting master)
Craft Items (just talk to the guy like before and learn the discipline)
Use the Trading Post
You can Visit Vistas AND PoIs you just aren’t directed to them.
WvW or PvP (Use Hot Keys to open the panels or go to LA from Home City to access the Asura Gates)
Can Use Wardrobe just open it up
Can use Minis
Can Access your Bank/Guild Bank
Can Access the Guild Panel Hit G
Can do Jumping Puzzles (I did Morgans Spiral at level 3 and the secret troll one at level 2 just to see)
Can Map Complete and get rewards for it.
The Combat stuff is true and locked behind a leveling curve that is significantly increased (It only took me 30 minutes to get to level 10 where all my weapon skills for ALL weapons were unlocked)
At level 13 about 45 min into a new character I unlocked my first Utility skill and as such unlocked Skill Point Challenges. Also, you can use Knowledge Scrolls at any level to learn new healing skills if you don’t like the first one.
EDIT: you also unlock the 1-10 Personal Story at ten and can do the whole arc at once. I did that at level 13 and it got me to level 17 and have a LOT of nice goodies and included the Black Lion Key.

There are JPs in HoT maps a couple of them actually. One you need LeyLine Gliding for, and there is one inside Tarir where you go up and up and up.. Just so you’re aware the argument that Gliding will ruin JPs is not a strong one and if that’s all you got sorry it’s not a good enough reason to not add a feature like that.

I have only wish. Dont make new leges tradeable on TP.

This ^.

I have only wish. Dont make new leges tradeable on TP.

Too many things are already account bound. Don’t lock more things away.

Legendaries were meant to be ultra rare items that showed your mastery of the game, making them trade-able reduced them to a high end checklist item that you grabbed if you wanted too with money you grinded. I hope they make them account bound and that acquisition is made far harder and skill based for the parts.

+1, I totally agree. THIS is why I never invested in a legendary. It wasn’t cause of the precursor, it was because anyone and their brother can have one by dumping cash into gems then converting to Gold. IMHO that is a small version of Pay 2 win. Which GW2 was never about.

You guys are forgetting the great Economic effect Legendaries and Precursors have on the game. They are a vital part of the economy thus why they have taken so long to make is so that precursor “hunting” has come out because they wanted to get it right without completely devaluing the market.

What about people that MAKE legendaries to sell them? There is a good market for legendaries and as such it shouldn’t be tampered with too severely.

ArenaNet: As a new player...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

Many people seem to forget the flood of posts everywhere with titles like “Where should I go?”, “I feel lost.”; “I am too low”, “Mobs are too high.” or “I am dying all the time” whenever we have a great influx into the game. A large number of players needs more hand holding. Each player lost due to bad guidance and introductions it is potential loss of money. The data showed Arenanet the bitter truth. In China Arenanet heard the same complaints. They had to react. The data mined free trials forces further adjustments to the level experience. The free trial accounts probably will cause the biggest influx since launch. The goial of Arenaet will be to keep as many players as possible in the game who will buy the game afterwards.

As a side effect the new leveling system creates much more challenging content on the way to level 80. You can even say the care bear mode is over. Play the story path of Ascalonian Catacombs with a level 30 character and you will have a real hard mode. Same is valid for the other paths at level 35.

You’re assuming that a) anyone/everyone did the dungeons at the suggested levels or b) most people waited until they were level 80 before doing the dungeons

I admit those dungeons would be more challenging when done at level, but that isn’t how many people play the game (from my experiences and from posts I’ve seen here and elsewhere.)

There’s another point to be made here, actually.

I wouldn’t even know about the existence of the ascalonian catacombs and other dungeons were it not for my guild talking about them in teamspeak.

Yet again, guidance for us nubs is what is needed, nothing more or less.

The Guidance on dungeons is kinda there though… they send you in game mail 5 levels before you get to the story mode, and on the level you reach the story mode. Its the player-base the gates people from doing them at level for the most part. ANet can’t control if you don’t read the In game mail that flashes and makes noise indicating you to click it and it even has the “show me” button that shows you just where the entrance to the place is.

Though I’m sorry you didn’t know until guildies told you about it. Dungeons are my most favored thing, and I kind of wish other things in the game alerted you to their presence in the way dungeon mails do.

I earned my PvP icon (mine happens to be the green one because I spent some time getting to the next level), the same as you earned your World Complete Icon. If you don’t like it, just turn off name plates. I should be allowed to show off my icon anywhere I want to.

I’ve earned my mastery points by playing the game also and getting to those next levels. Why can’t I show my Mastery levels in PvP and WvW? I should be allowed to show off my Mastery points anywhere I want to.

I think you should be able to! And I also think that you should be able to show your WvW rank. You can see everyone’s World Completion Icons in all game modes.

Hell, I think you should be able to choose what you show.

I earned my WvW rank too (platinum in “real” WvW), where is my icon?

Why should you as a PvP player that already gets tons of extras including tracks and the xp boosts every other weekend get more than I do? You might want to reevaluate your ego here, some of us have achieved milestones too yet we get nothing for it.

This has NOTHING to do with my ego, I don’t have much of one I am pretty rubbish at pvp I just enjoy it a lot and I want to see it grow, the same as I do with WvW which I think ANet REALLY needs to step up it’s game on. I was talking to the OP about them saying the icon is ugly. I enjoy my icon. And I think there should be more icons to represent accomplishments in all game modes.

And since when does not parroting someone’s opinion automatically mean I have some kind of an ego about it? I simply enjoy the icon and what it represents.

mmk, I just tested this right now, and I got the appropriate amount of levels. I suspect something on your end was bugged or something. It worked just fine for me and I didn’t even use a crafting booster.

[Suggestion] Increase dungeon token rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

I can’t complain much about it, I almost have this achievement done because I had a personal Achievement a long time ago when the Wardrobe came out to get every Karma, Dungeon, and Cultural skin in the game. I don’t worry about it too much I find when you don’t focus on it and just do dungeons here or there while you do other things tokens really stack up.

I can get almost 7k AC tokens doin’ all paths each day in one month. All paths of AC takes maybe 45 minutes to an hour with a good team. Better with a great team. A little worse with a bad one. The same goes for most of the other dungeons, there are only a few that take significant time. Arah has been a kittene for me, but I am about 67% finished with that one. Just a few more weapon skins left.

I don’t think it should be changed because its not that bad you get 180 tokens a day if you do all paths of a single dungeon. That’s one full set of armor in a week. It’s meant to be a long-term Achievement.

anet's lack of transparency

It strikes me as that place where your dad knows he’s lost but keeps driving ahead. This is Anet.

I recently re-installed and the TP was removed from Queensdale, uhm, why? Probably because the new TP layout is rubbish. Why is selling to bids the auto choice? This will lose new players money because they’ll assume that the game has their interests at heart.

Eg. New player get’s an exotic, bid of 1 copper is there…gratz new player you just lost a ton of gold.

Maybe I’m wrong but if I am it means the new TP is more confusing than the old one. You see my point? Lose lose, WD Anet, WD. Slow clap.

Look it up ion the forums the reason why the TP autos to Highest Bidder is because of overwhelming (a really big thread) on the forums complaining that it defaulted to the opposite when it was first released. In fact “Adjusted selling within the Trading Post so that the default is set to match the highest buyer instead of the lowest seller.” Taken Directly from the Patch Notes Update https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-September-9-2014/first#post4400022

That is why it defaults where it does. Because ANet listened to a large number of people.

Where's the story? (New Grindiness of PvE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

In my opinion, everything is a story in this game. Even many events chain off each other if you follow the NPCs where they go and listen to their dialogue.

There is HOURS of story in dungeons if you take the time to read the dialogues or listen to the cut scenes.

There is TONS of NPC conversations all around the world as you wander about .. if you’re not running to your next destination.

Personal Story and Living Story are only two parts of many arcs of individualized snipits of lively story in this game.

Where is this grind fest you are talking about? I think you are misusing that word. At least not in the same context.

Definition of Grinding in a Video Game: Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games. – Taken from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_

The wings were 500 gems like most other back pieces. I feel they were raised in price because now you also get the Glider version of them. Those that bought them earlier got a free upgrade on the skins.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

A handy list I made after making a new character on a newbie account I bought during the sale.

What You Can’t Do:
The Combat stuff is true and locked behind a leveling curve that is significantly increased (It only took me 30 minutes to get to level 10 where all my weapon skills for ALL weapons were unlocked)
At level 13 about 45 min into a new character I unlocked my first Utility skill and as such unlocked Skill Point Challenges. Also, you can use Knowledge Scrolls at any level to learn new healing skills if you don’t like the first one.
You also unlock the 1-10 Personal Story at ten and can do the whole arc at once. I did that at level 13 and it got me to level 17 and have a LOT of nice goodies and included the Black Lion Key.
Diving Goggles in Starter Zones (Item bundle, this one is weird but meh)

This! Up here!

Only thing that is level gated is hints/tutorial menu for each feature function/ visibility on map in game.

Get it through your skulls! Maybe you all need these changes, as you don’t listen?

Sadly, every where I have posted this I have been ignored. What do I have to do? Make a video that disproves the other one? That will probably get ignored too.

Does ANET forcefully disband Guilds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paradox.1380

Paradox.1380

That sucks ,but also seems… fishy. I am sorry this happened to you but as far as I know if you break the ToS you break it. It takes someone reporting you (generally) for them to look into it however.

The leader of one of my old guilds said that ANet disbanded us, but we later learned they just did it to take all the gold from the banks. I am not saying you did this at all, it just a cautionary tale to not take all things at face value.

I do wish you luck on rebuilding though.

Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Paradox.1380

A couple things:

1. Anything you’ve unlocked on your characters will STAY Unlocked. They aren’t going to take it away from you and make you “re-earn” it. I’m almsot positive everythign will be retroactive and grandfathered in like the first couple of changes.
2. Outside of the Old Trait Hunting thing (that wasn’t part of the NPE anyway) the NPE is actually easy and almost entirely unnoticeable to Veteran accounts. I have made over 10 characters since the NPE, a few of them I leveled up to “experience” it, and once they fixed all teh bugs (within less than a week mind you), I almost didn’t notice ANY difference at all. In fact with leveling accelerated from 2-15, I can get it in less than 30 minutes. In less than and hour I can be level 20 and the NPE no longer affects me at all other than a few of the “lock” outs like your last utility and Elite.

What the NPE actually did was streamline some things, add WAY more fun stuff for leveling up. You get better gear, you get little loot bags, it partitions off the story so that you experience each section in one big chunk which I like better anyway. It puts your points in chunks instead of one or two each level, and makes it noticeable change, thus more meaningful. These changes are aimed at people NEW to the game and for what its worth, I think its worked quite well for them.

The system is FAR better than the one we have now, and this is coming form someone who didn’t even mind the trait hunting thing.

To the Raiding People

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paradox.1380

Thank you for this!

Also let it be known that while ANet (I have never seen it) has never come out and said things like Teq and Wurm are Raids. Large guilds that farm them on the regular CALL them Raids already. I know we in TTS call them raids and another farming guild Attuned does as well at least in unofficial capacity.

So, while ANet may or may not consider those to be Raids, they most certainly are the closest we have to them at this stage, so try not to get hung up on terminology! Anet will almost 100% do Raiding in ANet Style.
