necromancer’s dev(s) is way too cautious or lazy when it comes to changes, apparently always afraid to make things a little bit too OP and therefore makes it always underpowered, just to be on the safe side.
meanwhile, the ele devs: ‘kitten balance, let’s stuff in even more of this and that, instant, with low cooldown! Lets buff everything to infinity!"
Anyways, damaging shouts should have cast time… Otherwise you could use the shouts at the same time that you are damaging with your weapon.
does it have to be a cast time tho? something like a 1sec. cooldown to all other shouts could work too. that you can shout multiple things at the same time didnt make much sense to begin with.

Guardians already have amazing damage mitigation, a big amount of condition remove, good heals, insakittenup support, lots of combo-skills.
And all some can think of is: “Where are my tons of HP on top of that?”
Of all professions, Guardians are definitely rather at the OP end of the spectrum and it really baffles me how some people still complain about them being too weak.
When it comes to DPS in offensive specs, well, dunno, maybe; but health? Come on, thats like the only (minor) weakness a guardian has when it comes to survivability.

Little clarification here. The GW1 expansion, Eye of the North, did NOT add new character slots. The stand alone campaigns(Proph, Factions, and Nightfall) added 2 character slots. Seeing as how this is an expansion and not a stand alone campaign I’m guessing no extra character slot. I would like it if they added an additional one but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
Imo you cant really draw any conclusions on how Heart Of Thorns will handle it based on Guild Wars 1. On the one side, you may say ‘no standalone = no slot’, on the other hand ‘new class = slot’.

As far as skill changes and finishers, I’m really surprised nobody suggested making Necrotic Grasp a 100% finisher yet.
thats definitely been suggested numerous times already. i just didnt feel like repeating it again.
let say it only give 4-6 stack of 15-20 second might instead of 10 stack of 12 second might, it also doesnt do any damage whatsoever to the foe, while we are at it we can increase the duration of the bleed to 15 second too.
Considering how elementalists and others are allowed to get ridiculous might stacks with very little effort, i think it could easily be 5 stacks for allies, 10 stacks for yourself and an increased self bleed.

Nope, never, theyre a waste of money/gold. Still have a ton of booster crap from the occasional Black Lion Key drop that i dont use up.

-i always think theyre too precious and i dont want to waste them (like wvw boosters), -theyre absolutely worthless cause the currency is worthless (karma boosters)
-they just dont work for most of the things you’d want them to (MF boosters).
-theyre just useless (swim boost)
-orthey turn the game into an awful hurry (Killstreak booster)
I used a lot of crafting boosters to get from 400 to 500 tho. But i havent bought any of those either, the ones from the chests were enough.

I honestly think DS needs more traits that trigger when we enter it, with 10s CD’s on them. I also think they should ALL be minors, while most of our majors focus on buffing our utilities and skill usage on weapons/DS skills. But that’s just a dream.
what would be the point of near to death when everything gets a 10 sec. cooldown?
and while i like the idea of customising your DS via minor traits, i dont think they should all be “effect-when-entering-DS”, that would be a bit boring. those minor traits could also have an effect when:
-you leave DS (like deathly invigoration)
-youre in DS (pulsing, like death shiver)
(theyre both bad cause of numbers, but the ideas of these traits are good)

Balance is just as much about perception as reality.
You don’t want people even thinking that certain classes are “top shelf” and others are “underpowered” even if you want to scream “but that isn’t how either class should be played”.So, if you find a population gravitating too heavily to some classes and builds, you are by definition out of balance. The game is designed around having all the classes be played more or less equally in WvW, PvE, PvP etc.
So the “eyeball” test for WvW is what classes are over represented. Then you ask, what do you have to do to change that to bring other classes “into parity”?
Now mind you, just because a class has/doesn’t numbers doesn’t mean it is balanced/unbalanced from a power and usefulness standpoint.
You have to balance for both.
But the two are TYPICALLY well correlated.
On that premise, melee is too prevalent (warriors/guardians). There are too few eles and rangers. In short, to achieve balance you need to make these classes more desirable.
Warriors have had the highest population since they were known as the worst class in the game.

maybe they were considered bad in that dead minigame that is called ‘s/tpvp’, but never in WvW. And in PvE theyre by far the best class since release.

It would be really nice ..when people play pvp..they dont need to be scared that they will get insulted no matter what they do…i get insulted for winning..i get insulted for losing..thats my daily pvp (and im not a bad player…and pvp nearly everyday)i got enough from this…!! and i dont want that so many player in gw2 need to suffer bcs of this!!
Im speaking for all when i say:
I dont want come home tired from work and relax..and the first thing someone tell me is: OMG NOOOB, GO DIE, U TRASHi know its normal that in pvp people get faster emotional and angry…but..this is no reason to insult someone and hurt someone….and its a part of the rules of gw2 (i know noone read it..but..) that insulting someone is forbidden…..actually it should be a general standard that insulting is bad..we r all human and have our pride and rights.
Maybe the generation under me see it as normal to hurt eachother and hurting words became a standard…but this game should not teach them that it is ok..there should be a better way to punish them( forexample a buff which cant let them talk to others for 1h)..and show them how bad it is not to respect eachother and say any bad word they want.
A wrong button click, and bad teambalance, and many others r no reason to hurt someone !!

I don’t quite understand in this case why classes like Guardians that is a melee class gets an elite spec that turns him into some sort of weaker version of a Ranger (not to mention that the Guardian has the lowest health pool with the Thief on top of not having a pet).
That part doesnt make any sense to me. Elite specs are supposed to change the way a class is played. Why is it not fitting to give a melee class an elite spec more focussed on range then?
So if I understand it right, with the Elite specialization, you are forced to use the associated weapon, utility spells, elite spell and trait that comes with it?
No. The only thing youre forced to use is the change to the class mechanic, for example the reaper’s shroud for the reaper instead of the normal death shroud.

Allow necromancers to swap weapons while in Shroud.
Was in the game. got bugged/nerfed out.
Make necromancers able to change shrouds when they swap from GS to other weapons and vice versa.
Have separate cooldowns for shroud skills.
1.Shrouds arent tied to different weapons, but specialisations.

Hopefully, the new necro specialization and greatsword will add some more active defense for necros, so they don’t get focused so easily.
just slapping a specialisation on the profession while leaving the default class unfixed sounds like a very kittenty way to adress a problem. i hope therell be done more about it than just the specialisation.

Worst changes out of any class, IMO. Especially the forced minion traits. Why are we going back to forcing players to use minion traits as minor traits? It took us like 2 years to get away from that.
If I’m taking Unholy Sanctuary, why would I want protection on minions that I’m not using? Why would I want minions to siphon health when I’m not using minions?

Are you kittening kittened? You get a normal effect for your necro with those minor traits. That it also affects minions is just a bonus. Seriously, this is not that hard to understand.
It’s nowhere close to the old minion-only minors.
The weird thing is, you do not have to be a brilliant game designer to fix the necromancer in GW2. All it took to fix the mesmer in GW1, was changing Panic. This instantly made it possible for the mesmer to be viable in dungeons, because now the mesmer finally had an aoe nuke skill. Yet it took them SIX YEARS to make that one change.
It wasnt just Panic. Actually, Panic isnt even used that much. They overbuffed a lot more mesmer skills to ridiculous levels, like wandering eye, ineptitude, mistrust.
Other than that, i agree. A few changes would go a long way to make necros way more viable, yet they cant be kitten d to do that.

What weapons do you feel fall short?
The axe, for the obvious, already mentioned reasons. Right now it’s like a slightly weaker dagger-clone for occasions where you cant go into melee range. Most of the time you use it for Axe#2 and use the other skills just to pass the time until #2 is available again.
Axe#1: complete garbage that hits like a wet paper.
Axe#3: boon-rip and cripple is ok, damage and cripple are a bit underwhelming tho and the retal is way too long (but thats a general problem with retaliation. too long durations, relatively weak effect, overly punishing against multi-hit attacks).
What weapons do you almost like, or like conceptually, but feel they have issues performing as well as they should?
Dagger:
It’s ok for roaming and in PvE, for bigger fights it just lacks the cleave (which would be fine if Axe would become our designated cleave weapon). In PvE it also has the problem that theres no need to use anything besides Dagger#1, which makes it a really boring weapon.
The #2 is pretty weak and has a long wind up time. I think this needs a serious buff to both, so it starts leeching faster and also heals more (lower the damage, if you want). Turning it into an Aoe-heal so that allies around you get healed for 50% could also be a good way to give the necro some much needed group support or might make dagger more interesting for minion masters.
I also feel that this weapon could need a gap-closer; it’s pretty hard to stay on people with only Dagger#3 and DS#2 (but thats a general necro-issue when fighting mobile classes).
Staff:
Staff is some sort of weird power/condition/support-hybrid weapon that lost most of its support now. The direct damage is really weirdly distributed. Staff#1 does ok damage, IF it hits and putrid mark hits like a truck, while the rest of the skills scale pretty bad with power. the power-scaling should be more balanced.
Staff#1: if it hits multiple enemies it deals ok direct damage and generates a ton of life force. but thats rarely the case in WvW and often not worth the cast time. This needs to be made more reliable.
Mark of Blood: it’s a solid skill to deal good condition-damage, but it could need a better power-scaling. Luckily the loss of 1 bleedstack doesnt affect WvW, it hurts the skill a lot.
Chillblains: fine, nothing wrong with it.
Putrid mark: im fine with the restriction to 3 conditions, but the loss of the group cleanse is awful and should be reversed. this is way easier than trying to give staff some group support elsewhere.
Focus
Bhawb already said most there is to say about focus.
Spinal shivers has way too long cast time, isnt relevant in PvE cause of lack of boons and the damage is underwhelming. If you remove 2-3 boons with this, it should really hurt.

Would making the WvW titles be similar to the Luxon/Kurzick titles in GW1 work?
Basically creating like 10 tiers within each of the achievements and then providing anyone who reaches Tier 1 with a Title, and every followed tier upgrades that title.
Also greatly increasing the AP you get for each of the tier (titles) would help.
It’s small, but it’s something I guess.

stealth-stomping is just lame cause of how easy it is to get stealthed for thiefs/rangers.
Everything else is fine, since you have to blow a skill with a reasonably long cooldown for it.

However, making the Masteries account-bound instead of Character-bound kills any replayability this type of exploration might have. The joy of slowly unlocking the map, carefully choosing the right skill to learn next and investing on a different path than the last play-through, is half the fun in those games.
With Masteries being account-bound, this can be experienced only once! The only other way to re-experience this would be to create a new account!I suggest 4 options!
- Make all Masteries Character-bound, and reduce whatever grinding they might need by a third.
- Seperate the map-progression Masteries from those that function as services, easter-egg (and the player could easily bypass the CB restriction by logging to an alt). The first type will require fewer Mastery points and would be character bound, while the second would be much more expensive, but will be included on all characters.
- Seperate both the Mastery Currencies and Mastery Types! Explorable Mastery Currencies would be character bound and would only effect masteries that help you reach unreachable areas, While Convenience Mastery Currencies would be account bound, and would offer convenience and Easter eggs to all characters!
- Have the mastery points be account-bound, but hide the mastery teachers instead.

It is obviously not the same mechanic as taunt in other mmorpgs, but most of the people will ignore that simple fact and WILL be 100% sure that trinity in pure form is returned in GW2.
I think simple renaming to “Anger” or something like that will help to avoid confusion.

Personal Story notification: I suffered through the personal story once and i have absolutely no intention to ever do that again.

never heard of an unwritten rule regarding this. but i wouldnt start without any life force ever. at least 20%; thats what i start with in pvp.
comparing adrenalin to lf is a kittening joke. you can get a full adrenalin bar in a couple of seconds if you want it. gathering life force in a fight is much harder.

the other classes i can say something about:
-necros still have many issues. 2 of our traitlines and a LOT of our minor traits are kitten. we still lack the sustain to be an attrition class. instead, we got more burst in the last update (why???) and a couple of stealth nerfs. but overall i think necs are in an ok spot. not good, but definitely not terrible.
-thieves: it’s still too easy to escape fights as a thief. thieves can still permastealth. pistolMH needs some love/rework; some dualskills too. other than that, i think thieves are fine.
-rangers: pets got nerfed. to make longbow more viable, shortbow got nerfed; because kitten logic. Pet-AI and -behavior is, in my opinion, still awful.
-warriors: i only play mine in WvW-groups and it is awesome.
i cant say much about the other classes, so i wont.
—> from what i’ve played, the worst class is in my opinion the ranger, mostly due to the pet-AI. necro might come close again, depending on the next update.

The biggest one is 2. With necros they always say, “but but but necro can’t have X, Y, or Z because they are necros.”
their vision of necro theme is also pretty kitten weird.
Meanwhile, eles are getting aoe boon removal, and a cd reduction elite which don’t fit eles theme at all.
that’s even more disgusting than chill on guardians. or burning on necros.

This pretty much. Works well for Dota2 and Anet could make quite some money with that. Especially with one or two different Golem and bone minion skins.
Othen than those two, i really like the minion designs.

heck, I’d just like four different maps… would be great if it was four different maps, each having a unique characteristic or some sort of environmental/atmospheric difference. To take that a step further, have them relate to each other somehow so that controlling one has a real effect on the others so you have a reason to have people fighting in each of the four realms.
while hard, possibly impossible, to balance, this would be awesome. similar to one of OPs suggestions, i would love to have charr-/asura- oder norn-themed battlegrounds (but mainly charr. with cannons and big artillery of course. and drivable tanks.).
What also concerns me are walls (in addition to the oil/canon-issue):
I think they are supposed to give defenders an advantage, but while attackers can easily plaster the walls with ground-target AoE, defenders have to stand on the foremost part of the wall in order to cast anything because of how poorly LoS is calculated in this game which makes them very vulnerable. (on the other hand, everything that isnt ground-target is reaaally bad if youre besieging something. again, due to stupid LoS)
Using siege on walls doesnt work that well either. unless it is placed on the very last pixels of the wall, it melts in a couple of seconds.
So either give defenders an advantage in the form of a damage reduction (or something similar) or make it harder to cover walls in AoE
Minor stuff:
-If upgrades with karma arent an option, we should at least be able to upgrade stuff with badges.
-you can heal up downed players way to fast. the revive-speed should be slowed down.
-the penalty that gives you less downed-hp everytime youre downed wears off waaay too fast. should be changed aswell.
-balance the food buffs. effects like +-40 condition duration are just broken compared to other foods

because we’re pretty close to the ‘young’-end of the age spectrum already.
we got humans that look like theyre 15. with some sliderkittenyou can maybe crank that up to 25 or something, but the entire range from there to 60 or so is not available.
