Ok i now hesitate between those two Builds (WvW and PVE)
Your build choices should reflect your style of gameplay. If you run with a group and are good at positioning, an ini-regen/ricochet build with knight’s gear and on-swap sigils would be good option. If you’re more solo-oriented, I’d focus more on damage, escapes, and cleanses (Pain Response is almost a necessity for that type of play).
I’m not a fan of divinity/celestial stuff. I prefer building towards maximizing your strong points and using utilities/sigils/runes to cover your weaknesses. The better you are at using terrain, dodging, and moving around during a fight, the glassier you can build. I run JUST enough toughness to survive getting hit by a backstab combo. Everything else is pure offense. It works for me because I’m a very twitchy, reflexive player by nature who loves being in the thick of a fight and dodging around like crazy. But it’s not a style I would recommend to others just starting out as a P/P thief. Play it safe at first until you figure out your strengths/weaknesses, then build accordingly.
Sounds lame enough to be true.
Although I did laugh out loudly when reading it at first, picturing us laying the trap near a cliffside and launching enemy players off it.

Rangers are the best class in the game for rallying enemy players.
Boring WvW matchups mean more time for making silly videos. It’s pretty much a ghost town over here in the lower tiers and all of the usual good roamers are off doing pve stuff or playing other games.
In this video, I manually nerf my perplexity runes by not using weapons. Since I’m only using two skills with lengthy cooldowns that can trigger an interrupt (steal/scorpion wire), I guess this is kinda what the rune set would feel like if it had an internal cooldown like people keep suggesting. Granted these players do absolutely nothing to bother removing those conditions, but at this point I take whatever fights I can get. :/
-El Taquito Bandito, Best Fireworks Thief NA
I main a Rifle Warrior (with axe/shield on the switch). Your damage and range will be very nice. You also have access to a cripple with a quick cooldown. And if you trait for Crack Shot, the piercing makes Rifle an absolute beast in skirmishes (pierced shots will apply their conditions to all affected players). But you’ll lack a true AoE for sieges unless you swap to Longbow.
I really wanted to like Longbow. It’s got a great AoE (coincidentally, the only combo field a Warrior can produce), and the skills look great on paper. But I just feel the damage is kinda blah for what it’s worth, and you have to trait 10 points into the Tactics (vitality) tree just to give it good range. In my opinion, those 10 points would be better spent in a different tree, or at the very least on taking Leg Specialist instead.
Mobility is top notch, though. Signet of Rage on its own will grant you 30 seconds of swiftness every minute. And you have tons of weapon skills to supplement that if you dont mind doing lots of weapon swaps. With the right skill rotation, you can out-run just about anyone.
My highest alt is a shortbow Thief (with p+d on switch), so I’m probably on the same page as you style-wise. I think the Thief is more fun to play, but the Warrior is more well-rounded. For sieges, the Thief has a slight edge for hitting targets on walls. But Warrior can spec for shouts and keep his entire team boosted while still throwing out great damage. Like everything else in GW2, it’s all about tradeoffs and preferences.
I haven’t tried Rangers (don’t like pets) and my Eng is only like level 6, so I can’t really offer any insight on those classes.
I think we can all agree that this subforum, and probaby several others, would benefit greatly from an increased number of red posts (of the non-moderator variety). Even if those posts are just words and no promise of action, it at least shows that the devs are interesting in what’s going on with their game. Currently, it feels like the development path for WvW is this big silent conveyor belt of random crap they cook up and ship out with seemingly very little testing or forethought. Obviously, there’s more work going into than that, but this is the vibe we’re subjected to and reality for those that don’t look past that impression.
A different game I play (which I won’t name because I can already feel the infraction hammer looming over this post) is the polar opposite of ANet when it comes to dev interaction. They open threads regularly looking for feedback and ideas, release balance patches on a weekly basis (sometimes even if to just “fiddle with the numbers” and try new things), post concept art for future premium content (read: skins) with polls for the players to vote on, host two different 24/7 twitch livestreams featuring both devs and community members to showcase everything from tournament play to patch note discussions… hell, they even have their own web-based sitcom.
All of this is done without even having an official forum.
Do people still complain in that game? Absolutely. But at least everyone knows that the dev crew is just as involved and loves playing the game as much as the players do. That leads to better two-way communication and a much better user experience all around.
I may as well be funny with these darn topic titles. Anyway … Gunslinger Week, eh?
GUNSLINGER WEEK!!!!
I’m gonna go get some of those new super pistol skins so we can make tons of pew-pew noises while we fight.
Edit: And here’s a video to help hype it up! http://youtu.be/dlz8S4t0HUY

I much prefer having an initiative pool than cooldowns. Sure, you have to be careful with your resource management, but it’s a small price to pay in order to have any of your moves ready at all times for any situation that gets thrown at you.
Thieves are pretty much the Jackie Chan of GW2.
Some highlights from this wonderful matchup:

If you throw siege on a corpse and it’s NOT an omega golem, you’re doing it wrong.
This isn’t the first exodus that GoM has had to suffer through. We’ll be alright. We’ll simply find ways to do more with less and become better players for it in the long run.
Rob, do you sleep? I see you posting all hours!
Let me see.
Go to work. Play GW2. Shower. Eat. Go to work..Nope.
Its the nightcrew somewhere in the world.Go get some sleep, Rob. Those evil doors will return soon and we need our hero to be at full strength when that moment arrives. We’ll take care of fighting actual players for you.
You mean perma-stealth back stab players for him?
Sorry don’t mean to be mean, Just seems like the majority of roamers I have found this week were perma-stealth thieves. I’m sure you don’t main one personallyMost roamers i’ve found this week were warriors that use all those dash skills to flee when they know they are going to lose… I’m starting to despite warriors more than thieves…
Condi regen warrior meta is boring meta. Might as well spam 1.
I think it is some kind of bug, there are some river drakes at the bloodlust points that normally aren’t hostile, but when the coyotes are gone the drakes go hostile too for some reason.
The coyotes were their friends and you killed them. Now the drakes want revenge!
Dear DH commander Zen whateveryour name is.
Just because I’m better then you, doesn’t mean “reported for haxing you cheater”
But please feel free to wear out your report button.
Like my fairy wings ? Lol..
But according to Zen 50% of all GoM hacks. And everyone who kills him hacks. So I can conclude you were indeed hacking based on logic.
Potato.
We’ve also been accused of using “auto-dodging” and “aimbot”.
True story.
We evasive gunslinger Thieves play by Highlander rules around here: There can be only one. Now we have to do that thing where we meet up behind the windmill so I can beat you up and take your lunch money.
Though, it’s refreshing to see someone else out there brave enough to play this game on hard mode.
My Thief kills for SCIENCE!
I… I think I like you. But, rules are rules.
Yeah, after the weekend ends, we usually seem to step it up and suck less. It’s just impossible at times to get people to focus on doing things for the SERVER instead of themselves, plus hell, it seems that we on GoM are slushes over the weekend.
If you haven’t tried WvW hammered, you just haven’t lived! was the motto someone mentioned
Sheesh… that might’ve been me.
Besides, what do you expect from a server that’s got Aussies AND Cajuns?
It’s good to see some red posts in the WvW forum again. Thanks for that.
Yeah, if you /bow and everything, you should really fight to downed state without resets. It’s too easy to get just enough distance to reset your own health bar without triggering the reset for their health bar, and that’s an unfair advantage in a proper duel.
Open world 1v1, anything goes.
The next match-up between SF/HoD/GoM is going to decide who takes first.
And GoM, you get to choose who you dislike more. :P
YOU HAVE THE POWER!
I hate you both equally, but I love money. Let’s talk business.
Advanced Tots Tactics 101:
When getting blown up by a stealthless thief, it’s time to unleash the META ZERG!
Regardless, the chance to avoid gold league blobs, queues, and lag for 0 gems is intriguing.
Color me intrigued indeed
If TW had stayed on SoR with the loyalists I would even have considered paying to transfer there to what will now undoubtedly be a very tight community. Wish I knew more about some of the lower tiers competition and community personalities but I guess that is what we suddenly have all these world type threads for.
Well, if you’d like to get to know some of the lower tier servers better, please feel free to drop by one of our weekly matchup threads to see when gvgs, fight nights, and other cross-server events are scheduled.
Oh… that’s right. Matchup threads are the devil.
Ouch. Did HoD kill Prosecute in the jp or something?
I’m actually pretty hyped about this feature patch, but for all the wrong reasons. Anet has struggled with class balance thus far and their history of play-testing before implementing has been way less than stellar. I can’t wait to see what kind of kitten they break by dropping 40 NEW TRAITS in one day.
The first couple of weeks after this patch will be comedic gold.
You can go to the dungeon vendors in Lion’s Arch (the area right near the asura gates that lead to WvW and PvP). Once you have the shop menu open, you can right-click on items to preview them on your character before you decide if you want to buy it.
Feel free to mix and match from different sets until you get the look you like.
Flame rams don’t have wheels… they actually LEVITATE. We should be able to push them around like air hockey discs.
Coincidentally, this could lead to a fun new mini-game for whenever asuraball isn’t in season.
I’m actually curious do lower tier severs (besides tier 2) have the ts organization to facilitate constant across map communication and force movements between commanders in all maps? I know BG certainly did not have this level of communication until entering t1 for some time. Also it’s my impression bloodlust area is completely abandoned in lower tiers? I know in t1 controlling bloodlust is a top priority, not sure what it is like in lower tiers? What about scouting, to what extend are they practiced? Genuinely interested here.
Yes, there’s server-wide TS communication, planning, and scouting here in the lower tiers. However, since each server’s coverage can vary dramatically, people tend to only play in tryhard-mode on the weekends. Usually servers have one “large” group (about 30-50 primetime) that hops from map to map making quick strikes at weak points, and then a handful of skirmish/roaming guilds coordinating to stir things up in order to disguise the movements of the larger group. The object here really isn’t about PPT, it’s about putting waypoints in your opponents’ keeps.
Then once the weekend ends, the focus shifts away from trying to out-smart your opponents over objectives and becomes much more fight-oriented. The larger groups actively seek out the other larger groups, skirmish groups go after skirmish groups, and so on. Scouting and defending still happen, but there’s much less emphasis on the scoreboard and more on trying to get some big epic battle going. Bloodlust control is mainly used for attracting attention away from elsewhere, or for after you’ve successfully locked down a map. Most of the time, though, everyone seems to be comfortable just having their own bloodlust buff and letting the enemies have theirs.
tl;dr: Server-wide communication, planning, and even weekly strategy meetings exist in the low tiers, but simply on a smaller scale and with different purpose than upper tiers. The scoreboard holds little-to-no importance here (excluding seasons) and there’s a healthy balance between playing hard for objectives, looking for good fights, and goofing around (gvgs, dueling, quaggan parties, etc) over the course of a matchup. One benefit to having less people is that we can usually recognize each other pretty easily and have some interesting cross-server rivalries/friendships.
That’s cute. Kinda’ like a home invasion when the owner is at work.
I’d be more impressed if there were actually…oh I don’t know…people there to at least wave at your zergs as they power through the emptied borderlands, keeps and towers.
We’ve been horrible hosts to you all from NSP – and for that we apologize. GoM and HoD will try to be much better about being at home to receive visitors in the future.
Love
Us.
Are you suggesting that we wait for you to come online before fighting.
Sorry.
But the map was all blue this morning, when we were sleeping. No, no…nothing of the sort. I just think it’s adorable when people get excited about steamrolling empty battlegrounds. It’s cute.
As for some PvD action. Loool
Afk on the forums in GoM keep, opened it up to this. ^__^
Oh, don’t mind them. They are just our spies and hackers. Please proceed with your door smashing!
May the 1 keys of a thousand zergs forever be spammed in his honor.
I just wanted good fights. Both BP and AR provided them the majority of the time, and I would hope both servers have a similar opinion of us.
That we do. As much smack we talk about the macro level stuff, you would be hard pressed to find a majority of either server that didn’t enjoy the fights with you guys. Almost exclusively the gripes about NSP were about you guys getting lippy and claiming that you were better and we were playing for second or double teaming you.
AR has a sore spot when it comes to being talked down to. The same thing happened when BP had their T5 population and kept getting big headed about denying it. GoM can tell you about that. Thems was dark days for the forums. lol
On the up side, if BP and AR can get over the drama and become bestest buds. Perhaps the same can happen with NSP. Here’s to hoping it will!
you sound like the biggest newbie
I can assure you my newbie is HUGE. I’m like a little Asuran tripod.
confirmed for newbie
confirmed for confirmation.
Your math checks out.
As for the reason for posting, I only really meant to bring the /laughing to your attention, because I know if someone from [RH] was doing it we’d want to know.
Actually, Zumi, we have a number of long time members who /laugh /dance /whatever. We haven’t ever had a policy of telling people not to do that.
No /laugh or /dance for me. I keep things classy and pop fireworks or spike people as a baby quaggan instead.
Edit: I don’t hate thieves but I do hate my thief. I can’t kill anyone with mine =( It’s really sad… like, really, really, really sad.
Your thief needs moar pistols! pew pew > stealth
It’s only 900 range!!
Well, you could play boring old short bow and d/d or d/p if you want to breeze through the game on training mode. But then your fights wouldn’t be anywhere near this cool:
http://youtu.be/4weEXyoXZKs
http://youtu.be/37KddyjUxnQ
(Warning: clips from movies with violent gun battles. Don’t click if you’re easily offended by AWESOME!)
DR joined this tier the same week we did, so there’s not really a new guy to pick on. It’s just more a matter of opportunity. We won last week, we’re in the lead this week, and we’re going to continue to be the top threat for either server and continuously double-teamed until one of them manages to snag the lead. If we’re getting slammed by one server, the other is going to try to nab free points from us.
It’s that simple.
Sorry, thief wins out raw speed as well.
I’m running centaur runes with Withdraw for perma-swiftness. Add in Heartseeker spam to go even faster (2 Heartseekers = 1 Infiltrator’s Arrow for both distance and initiative cost). Plus Shadowstep.
That’s not including if there are valid targets around, which there almost always are. At that point, add Infiltrator’s Signet and Steal to the list. And if you really want to get sneaky, Shadow Shot can also be used as a cheaper version of Infiltrator’s Arrow. The trick is to dodge roll right after the teleport but before the dagger attack happens. If the dagger hits, you’ll drop to combat speed.
On another note, what’s up with GOM today?
Dunno. Things looked pretty good while I was online today. >:D
You had 1 good hour and you’re talking trash? We closed the gap by 5k points, come back when open back up again.
Good, keep that score close. Better yet, keep bringing those excellent fights that I got to experience earlier tonight. AR and DR are way more fun to fight than the matchup we had last week. I’d love to see this season finale go down to the wire.
#UnNerfFireworks2014
Hey guys, Ferrum Blacktide here, a commander from GoM. You guys losing is not a result of outnumbering, cheating, or hacking. The commanders of GoM have been planning our comeback for the past two weeks, so thank you all for being a part of it. It really means a lot to me that so many of you guys are still being good sports about it.
PS: GoM finally learned to defend.
Look, I know that you’re happy your efforts are finally paying off. As a fellow GoM player, I’m grateful for your hard work and planning that lead up to this point. But your post comes across as arrogant whether you intended it that way or not.
As part of the team that hit all three borderlands, I definitely felt we had the numbers advantage. There were a few excellent skirmishes here and there against enemy zergs, but we were left mostly unchecked for the much of the night even when pushing multiple objectives. Perhaps this is the result of good strategy and execution, but it’s still no reason to chest-thump. We still have a long way to go.
At any rate, our primary focus while we have control of the scoreboard should be to convert our fair-weather server-mates. Let’s teach them how to properly set up and use siege, show them when to defend or push, tell them the importance of WHY we’re taking certain objectives, etc. If we’re going to be the zerg server this week, let’s do it gracefully and re-invest our efforts into strengthening our server for future matchups.
They killed that many people without using stealth? Obviously they are hackers and should be reported. Sorry, post fail.
That’s why I didn’t post any clips from Chow Yun Fat movies. That dude is obviously a hacker and would get pistols nerfed for sure.
I’ve been wanting to get a second pistol for a while and your posts have convinced me it MUST be when I get on today. Even if I can’t afford sigils. Pew pew pew pew!
I’m anxious to hear the results of your first day playing pew/pew thief. Hit me up sometime over the weekend and we’ll get some gunslinger duels going!
I must be one of the bad guys; my pew pew never kills anyone
.
Quite the contrary. It just means you’re playing WvW on hard mode now. Under-powered weapon set that requires target lock, no AoE damage skills, no access to stealth for easy fight resets.
Just you, your reflexes, and a pair of guns. Enjoy!
And dual daggers as a weapon swap for those “Oh Kitten” moments?
Well..its what I’d do anyway, lol.
Lol, that’s what I’ve been doing. I think SB ez mode would be a better backup though.
Snore Bow
You’re right. I should go all out and have s/p back up. No stealths!
I use d/p for the mobility and headshot, but I intentionally avoid using the stealth field. No stealths!
I ran rifle/greatsword on my warrior for reset. Killshots and Bull’s Charge → Hundred Blades all night long. It’s just like launch all over again!
does anyone else feel bored of this game as much as i do?
also i’m giving 5g to someone that can recommend me a class/build that is fun to play thx!! xD
People have been saying that stealthless gunslinger thief is pretty fun.

I’m feeling the love in here. Never thought I’d be reading poetry about me on the official forums.
I lack styx’s eloquence in both poetry and prose, so here is a moving picture tribute to you from your dear friends over at GoM.
Catching up on the past few pages of the thread…
Dear Taquito,
I have downloaded Smite. Please teach me the ways of the gods, much as you have taught me the ways of the thief.Thank you,
Timada
XOXOAs you have yet to fully master playing thief without using stealth, I suggest you try out Loki. He can go invisible, backstab, and even has a teleport to pick people off or escape. Then you can spam [VEL] after killing someone because that is Smite’s version of /laugh.
I mainly play carries and tanks (usually Apollo because pew-pew and Ymir because he’s kitten Ymir). I can make a new lowbie account this weekend if you want to party up, that way you won’t have to go up against a team full of level 30’s while you’re still learning.
Also, gosh aren’t you so excited about WvW leagues starting?
Hey! Get back in WvW! Or there will be frowning!
ArenaNet has even made us a new map so we’ll no longer have to wait in queue! Instead of waiting in queue all day we can hang out there and give them feedback with other Gate of Madness WvW guilds! So lots to do! No more Smite!
Awesome! Now we can get our WvW achievements done without having to do any of that pesky PvP stuff!
Did you know that the last couple of times I logged into WvW, people there TRIED TO KILL ME? I swear, these WvW folks are all a bunch of savages and I bet hardly any of them even have full ascended gear. Come, let us buy new backpack skins from the gem store and laugh at these peasants as we discuss Tequatl strategies!
100 man Hod Zergs in each BL. HOD should be in Silver since they have the numbers. Not fun to be outmanned constantly. Want to stay motivated but its not easy.
Too bad we’re still one of the lost population servers. GG GG

If TW had stayed on SoR with the loyalists I would even have considered paying to transfer there to what will now undoubtedly be a very tight community. Wish I knew more about some of the lower tiers competition and community personalities but I guess that is what we suddenly have all these world type threads for.
