Our guild just did F/U path in TA nights ago. It was the last path one of us needed for the achievement. We went in with 3 guardians, 1 mesmer and 1 ranger. We chained all the reflection we could. Took the boss out super-fast, and the black widows almost never touched us. The hardest part of the run was getting everyone through the invisi-goop.
Won’t miss the path either, and am thankful for new content, but that path wasn’t nearly as hard as some made it out to be. Certainly a challenge, and it definitely required specific tactics, but it was not impossible.
You likely have to pick your armor stats because you had magic find involved. This stat was removed from armor.
Spend your Hero Points to re-unlock your skills and traits. You can have 3 traitlines active at a time, all the way to grandmaster level. Since you are level 80 you should have enough points to do this, no problem, especially if you were anywhere close to map completion.
Your two crafting disciplines can go up to 500 now with the ascended tier of mats. Doing content in game will give you different mats (bloodstone, empyrials, dragonite) For now all you can craft is ascended weapons and armor. Make sure you have plenty of Obsidian Shards.
I hope you already had your precursor for The Dreamer, as the price has jumped considerably since you last played.
If you don’t have map completion, you no longer need to bother with exploring the WvW maps for this.
Server transfers are no longer free, and guesting is no longer a thing. You only really need these for WvW content, as the rest of the PvE game is on the megaserver system. Transfers are available from the character select screen, and cost a boatload of gems last I checked (2k?)
A couple of other points:
check your “wallet” (icon in the lower left of your inventory.) Many drops and currencies have been consolidated here. If you are missing stacks of things you used to have, check here first.
Condition damage has been changed as well, as you no longer have to compete with others for stacks. All of your damage will now be applied.
There are new fractals and several new maps for you to explore (dry top, silverwastes, etc) These are great places to farm for gold / mats to help you on your legendary quest.
There are tons of new achievements, check them out.
give the AI the ability to react like human opponents and stacking will no longer work.
you might as well say please get rid of a legitimate military strategy because we are winning the war too easily.
you can play how you want, but what you want isn’t always the best way.
more than i would care to admit.
less than I would like.
while I like the idea of community and players helping each other out, you should not place a limit on this kind of thing. Bad idea IMO.
I have a secondary guild of my own, with only me in it, for storage reasons only. I only represent it when I’m accessing my separate storage. If this gets dissolved I lose all my stuff. They should make bank access cheaper imo, but whatever, thats up to them.
Smaller guilds are great. Don’t force them to join huge mobs of guilds with no community feeling whatsoever.
The larger the guild, I find, the less helpful everyone is as a whole.
I don’t know about assisted jumps, but how about a “lend a hand up” feature.
One character is on a ledge just above another character. They can reach each other. Their models can collide at some point.
The higher character can pull the other character up.
This would be especially funny to see an Asura helping up a Norn.
this should be required reading for those coming from WoW. I’m sorry, but there are so many players out there with this “play a role” mindset that its easy to forget what this game is really about.
Thief can be excellent.
Things my thief can do that none of my other classes can do: (I have an 80 of each class)
-Kill trash mobs in 2 to 3 hits flat
-Run across 1/4 of a map while in stealth
-Evade attacks almost endlessly without hitting dodge
-Gather vet guarded rich nodes without drawing agro
-Scout effectively in Edge of the Mists
-Conquer effectively in PvP
Stay away from the individual profession forums if you want to learn what is good about a class. Forums are generally full of complaining, and no one on here really likes their main class, it seems.
+1 for the cookbook idea.
trehearne vodoo doll.
plush risen abomination
priory focus skin keychain
engi turret mailbox
firey greatsword shovel
or best thing ever:
dinky pull-cord-with-quotes doll
so the evil centaur you have been trying to track down that has kidnapped the queen, messed up the manor and enslaved or killed all the staff deserves a “fair and honorable fight with arbitrary rules” when you finally track him down to deliver justice?
…please. gang up on him, kick him in the shins (all four) and lay the beatdown. NPC enemy brutality is ok (stacking). this is a FANTASY VIDEO GAME.
If you are really that sick of stacking, go join your local bushido.
yes, temp and perm options. excellent idea.
I’d like to throw into the mix of options: glowy auras and more dance moves
“General
Added a new combat/movement toggle option: “Right-Click to Attack/Interact”.
Single best feature updated since launch, IMO. About time.
^ if everyone only got exactly what they needed out of resource nodes or drops, there would be virtually no trade economy. That’s part of the central problem surrounding ascended mats. They are account bound. There is no way to get rid of them except for using them yourself.
Moto = Creator of Mario, Link, etc…
This is going to be awesome.
A word to the wise and wary.
If you want to run dungeons with any regularity and you don’t get into a guild specializing in this, making an Ele will get you kicked far less than making a Ranger will. Beware of elitist meta runners.
Rangers can be devastating in PVP. They are also very good at soloing content, but not good at breaking any records.
(shameless plug) if you are looking for a pvx, social guild look me up in game or check out our site. (sig) Several of our members have been playing guild wars since beta and since the early days of GW1. We don’t mind helping new players.
at the very least let the “new message” window be movable around the screen so I can see what is behind it. >_<
I am guilty of stacking, but I never do it “just to make things easier and skip content”
It’s really all about strategy for me. Why, with an army of 5 people against 20 to 30 irate Svanir would I suggest everyone split up so we all have to face 4 targets alone, when we could all pull together and force the enemy into a position where we want them? It’s a tactical advantage, and something you’ll notice NEVER works in WvW for one important reason: your enemies are other players. The AI already flee from constant AoE attacks…
Why change something that works and only serves to illustrate how you can play smarter instead of just running in without a strategy? I pose that I have more fun playing in dungeons because of this teamwork, not despite of it, and I’m sure I’m not alone there.
how about a profession bag:
anything your profession can equip will sort into this bag first.
if you dont like stacking in dungeons and you liked the movie 300 then you need to pick one and be done with it.
stacking against a superior foe or a large number of enemies is a legitimate military strategy. look at the aforementioned spartans. look at Thermopylae. The alamo? There are countless other famous examples..
There is a reason this only works in PvE. The AI. The only way to “remove” stacking would be to update the AI to a level where it thinks like a player. Show a way to do this and our strategies will adapt.
I like the ideas too, but it does keep smaller guilds out of a lot of content and has potential for bullying. Larger guilds would have their pick of an in-world guild hall wherever they wanted.
Then you have to consider things like, are any of the potential location entrances near high traffic areas, gathering hot spots, event chains, and so on. I think this would just promote more bad farming behavior and keep every casual player out of the game.
What we really need are instanced guilds halls that guild can unlock upgrades for connections to major cities only. Upgrade architecture and build Asura gates to each city and lions arch after so much influence is earned. Simple to do and the system is basically already in place for it.
complaints like this are just… I mean, come on.
if you want storage right next to a trading post, go to divinity’s reach, or even better, go to Ebonhawke (if you don’t mind missing out on guild storage)
if you want everything right next to each other (including crafting) go to Rata Sum.
if you want to complain about walking or using waypoints whenever you want with no cost at all, continue using lion’s arch.
#entitledgamerproblems.
I have few problems with the game, but…
1. time gated anything
2. soulbound drops on characters that won’t use them
3. not enough emotes
4. not enough reasons to be in any town but Lions Arch
5. the almost impossible set of circumstances that must be met to achieve rewards from the Tequatl fight.
any good x/p thief will reserve their headshots for dimishing stacks of defiant, not actually interrupting. nothing else in the game is as fast for clearing defiant stacks, but the interrupt itself is very lackluster. teach your speedclearing thieves how to play and you can open up your icebow freeze every time.
fractal reward level
legendary weapons
ascended weapons (and armors when they hit)
commander tag (but not showable unless you are on an 80)
WvW experience
everything else is fine being soulbound imo.
I really enjoy all the voices in the game for the most part. I really find it odd that Sylvari say “thorns!” as an expletive. That’s like a Char saying “horns!” or a human saying “fingernails!” I get it, they are plants, but it really doesn’t make any sense.
Also:
Please give me an option to silence myself and no one else. My character is a battle-hardened blood legion charrdian. She does not need to tell me how fast she is going every time I use a speed boost. >_<
I’d really love to see more emotes and more class and race specific ones. Anything to increase the flavor and lore of the game is a plus in my book.
do dungeons, sell rares, buy the extra silk you don’t get from salvaging greens/blues and loot bags. if you do 9 fast dungeon paths (couple hours game time) you will always break even. squeeze in a teq for another gold or two, depending on drops, and hit silverwastes.
farming gold needed is always better than farming mats directly.
wasn’t aware this was a problem. pets don’t get natural AR? wth? they should!
removing someone from your friend list doesn’t put them on the followers list afaik. Followers have you on their friends list. apart from a polite request I don’t see any way to get those names off your list. there’s always the /block feature, but that should be used sparingly and for gold sellers.
anytime I have gone through and removed people from my blocked list I have never had a sudden influx of unwanted whispers. if it becomes a problem, block them again.
on my Engineer I went with Leatherworker and Huntsman. I miss out on making shields, but everything else my character uses I can make from scratch and keep up on it as I level. With Leatherworker you can of course keep your armor up to date, and Huntsman will allow you to make your Rifles and Pistols. If you really need a shield, just buy one someone else made.
This will likely become a higher priority once raids are released, as people might want/need to use different builds for different bosses.
according to what I read, you will likely be in combat for the duration of the raid, making build swapping impossible. they mentioned that weapon swapping can change your role in a raid very easily. I worry that we won’t be able to even swap out utility skills during this challenging content.
Build Templates would be a great thing to implement, but each mode of the game needs to behave differently.
PvE: swap build anytime you are out of combat. (should also apply to raids)
WvW: swap build anytime you are in your home safe area.
PvP: swap build in the lobby only, not during matches (ranked or unranked). Treat hot-join server just like PvE.
This would allow you to change builds when appropriate for the content. We can swap utilities skills fairly easily, so we should have a way to swap out traits just as easily. Certain builds benefit from other armor and weapon stat combos, so this should be a part of it too.
The only drawback I see, in PvE and WvW, is inventory space. For each new build template you have that uses a different set of armor/trinkets, etc you need to carry around the full set with you. Maybe making build templates access the bank would work.
ahh, I remember the flame shaman in PoA during beta. holy cow that guy was tough then.
in all honesty, isn’t it a little early for one of these? it still feels like the game has barely really arrived…
why would I need cripple? I mean, the only use I could see is if they are trying to get away from me and I don’t feel like leaping/teleporting/blinking/yanking them back/walling them off/walling them in/or just hitting them from range.
cripple? psh
Here, have a reply, and i will try to summarize future replies as well…
RNG is RNG.
Omg you have one of these? #1%problems
You know, TECHNICALLY these aren’t misleading because…
Something random about how this isn’t at all related to Hot pricing.
LTP plz noob
and
Yeah, I agree, while the rewards are somewhat misleading I wish you could (insert suggestion for an improvement)
Two down! Goob job everyone!
This has been brought up before; and yes, the search function on these forums is abysmal.
This would be too powerful. Just to name a few examples:
Mesmers traited to have damage reduction and damage boosted with every mantra charged.
Necro’s traited with boosted wells.
Guardians traited with boosted spirit weapons.
etc..
What I’d rather see are more elite skill options. Not every class has an elite version of all their utility types, and they should IMO.
for your first character, stop and smell the lore and go where the game suggests you go. this is a good experience for this game and the story is alright.
as far as missing things you might need to learn: don’t rely on the game to teach you these things. there are chests in each starter zone that teach you how to dodge to reach them, but thats about it. there is nothing in the game that teaches you about advanced combat tactics such as combo fields, finishers, and trait synergy.
don’t be afraid to experiment with your skills and traits.
also: this game has little to do with reaching max level. they popular phrasing is “end game starts after the tutorial”
necro is awesome.
all professions are awesome if you enjoy playing games.
if you enjoy min/maxing, forums, and complaining, then none of the professions are awesome. some of them are only tolerable, and a few are barely playable.
also: what on earth did you type to make necro hit the profanity filter?
conditions have changed, mainly that they effectively removed stacks for most damaging conditions. what this means is that all of your own condition damage will actually apply, and no longer gets overwritten by other players.
It sounds like you’d benefit from a guardian. spec for burning and symbols. you can wade in, drop tons of damage and vuln, keep blind up, and keep everything on fire. traited correctly, you can even spread might stacks on crits, and it takes very little healing to keep everyone else alive.
So, when we all hit the 300% magic find cap and are pulling greens and more off every mob drop… is there going to be a shortage of white drops? From what I’ve noticed with MF so far is that the higher that number gets, the fewer loot bags I am finding.
I kind of feel weird saying this, but I’d like an option to turn MF off!
Anyone else feel this way?
Yeah…I don’t think I’d call this a stealth nerf. This is a stealth fix. if they said at all on the patch notes “made improvements to dungeons”, this qualifies and stating it.
Keep in mind, you paid for this game, but there’s no monthly fee. They don’t have to tell us anything about what they do to the game. They also don’t have to read our thoughts and arguments on the forum and even chime in to talk to us directly. They also don’t have to read their personal message folder, but they do.
I think this team is doing great work with the community of players. One exploit closed and they didn’t tell anyone about it? Was it really that much of a surprise? Cmon..
salvaging Globs of Ectoplasm will yield stupid amounts of Essense of Luck. You will get hundreds, quickly, and a lot of Crystalline Dust.
the downside of course, is you are salvaging Ecto.
you are also just hitting the point where it starts to take a lot more luck to get higher magic find numbers. check out the chart.
how about a Mistfire Wolf Mini Pet instead? keep it simple?
excellent, well thought out idea. love it. +1
here is a long list of everything you can purchase in the game using Karma.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_karma_merchant_items
enjoy!
pros
-your enemies will always be on fire. guardians apply a lot of burning and apply it well.
cons
-it is your ONLY damaging condition.
-it stacks duration, not intensity
-you have to apply it first, or you will be waiting for someone’s other ticks
-it only takes one condition removal to cancel out your entire build
If you are roaming on map, alone, and come up against another solitary target this will work out for you. The drawback is in order to trait high enough to see the effectiveness, the pressure total from the burning will likely not be enough to take your target down before they take you down.
In my experience the best use for a condition damage heavy guardian build is “you enjoy killing and farming random mobs in a map empty of other players, and you don’t mind the fights taking longer while you catch up on [insert tv show here]”
only LA has been revamped. that wiki page has a lot of information, 98% of it is accurate.
it’s kind of silly to discredit all the useful information because you found one thing wrong with it. you asked what karma can be used for, and there’s a comprehensive list.
basically any heart vendor, any purple icon over a merchant, or any temple will take your karma. try looking around in game, I’m sure you can find them.
It was awesome. Must watch again.
…yep, still awesome.
fun fact: if you commonly have enemies located near the top of the screen (near their health bars) and you use a ground targeted skill while your mouse is on their health bar instead of the enemy itself, the targeting ring defaults to centered on your character.
intended or not, who knows… but useful for classes that have both offensive and defensive gtaoe skills.
I don’t have any ascended items and only 1 character at 80. I don’t even have exotic armor yet (just rare!) and I’m STILL using level 80 Masterwork trinkets.
The game is still fun for me. It’s only a grind if you want it to be.
