I’m sure the reason they added dueling in the Guild Hall was in some way to see if there is interest about it. Judging by the many guild halls I’ve visited, I’m not sure if the results were very encouraging. The first step towards adding dueling in the game is convincing the devs that there is actual in-game demand for it, not by posting posts on the forums, I’m sure they can monitor how many people use any Guild Arena, or are dueling in WvW (for those without guilds and no way of paying the costs of an arena)
And if players aren’t dueling in the already existing dueling areas, then the question becomes, why aren’t they? Maybe those asking for duels aren’t asking for duels to fight with others one on one but want something else? Someone mentioned it earlier, asking for duels everywhere as attention seekers, asking for duels in many places so you can have an audience. The audience and the attention is what matters or the act of dueling?
In other games I’ve played, dueling is overwhelmingly utilized either:
- in specific locations (e.g., right outside a city). This allowed for a possible infusion of new blood or serendipitous dueling as people wandered by. It made dueling more accessible. The current iterations (custom arenas and halls) lack the accessibility of player-selected locations. Both are out of sight, requiring greater effort to go where duels are possible. This cannot help but limit usage.
- at locations where players were waiting for something to happen (e.g., while waiting for a raid party to form). This made dueling a convenient pastime. While 2 guild members would be able to port to the hall to duel, anyone not in that guild would have to travel to a HoT map to get in. The lack of convenience is also going to limit usage.
IF ANet was/is using the current iterations available to determine interest, they’re ignoring the accessibility and convenience issues that help make dueling popular in other games. While I might believe that ANet’s consideration of dueling ignores the social aspects involved, I consider it equally likely that another social issue — catering to duelphobia — is the reason why dueling is tucked away under a couple of rocks.
Here’s the thing: Just because she’s the red name making the posts, doesn’t mean it was her decision.
Don’t shoot the messenger. Ad hominem attacks don’t work.
Attack the issue.
And the issue is that this decision seems to be not rooted in actual game realities.
Hello engineers,
Just been lurking the forum & noticed some disdain for the Flamethrower with it being regarded as almost exclusively a condition kit. From my experience I’ve found it to be really useful in power setups.
Apologies if you’ve seen video beforehand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21ICeHguxFs
Far from flawless plays, I still hope the video showcases Flamethrower’s effectiveness in scenarios such as outnumbered solo, condition opponents, and small scale roaming. I mean I’ve got nothing to gain by lying about the build, just hope others can find some enjoyment from playing it. Most of what you want to know should be in the description/comments. If you’ve got any questions please don’t hesitate to message me here or ingame.
Happy Scrappin’ o/
So who is really changing their gaming experience for whom here?
Well if emotes and /me emotes could be separated those that wanted to opt-out and still see normal emotes would need to make one change. That is all.
I know you’ve read my previous posts and personally have no issue with this change (along with a smaller emote range). But my analogy still stands. RPers already do things to accommodate the majority around them. But apparently, in today’s game, it is asking too much to avoid RP heavy areas/servers or simply putting /emote in another tab?
Like I said, God helps those who help themselves; I bet the devs would more likely aid players that exhausted all measures to curb a situation. You have to also look at it from a perspective of if certain changes won’t happen. What other changes could aid the situation or curb other secondary problems? You never know, some changes could have unintended consequences.
Hoarding doesnt achieve anything in a game that has an infinite supply of everything.
All it does is temporarily remove some items from the economy, but it doesnt stop the supply of the same items to the economy by other players.
Most people who complain about the economy are players who want to buy something that they cant be bothered getting themselves, but find the prices are higher than what they think they should be , hence the economy is broken.
About the only gripe I have with the economy is the large number of items that cant be sold at all, because they are soul bound or account bound .
In any economy, anything that has value should be sellable, but most MMOs have these restrictions so there must be some reason for them.
People seem very confused. Let me try and clear up some of that confusion.
Example 1, ectos: Players think that ectos should be worth ~35s. John has repeatedly changed drop rates, added new drops, added sinks (salvage to crystalline dust), etc. to keep ectos at ~35s. This is what people have come to expect for ectos. Thus when AB multi-loot started dumping a crap ton of ectos into the market the market just kept absorbing them at 35s because that is what it expected them to be. People thought for sure that John would nerf AB to keep ectos at this price. Ectos actually gained value because people kept buying them up since they were sure it would be nerfed and ecto prices would rise anyway. Then the major patch came and no nerf was made. People panicked because they had been hoarding ectos for months since they were sure John would adjust the price. Since the nerf didn’t come the market finally crashed and ectos dropped from 55s to 25s in a month. Their price is still correcting but finally it is no longer tied to the perceived price but to supply and demand.
Example 2, Mystic coins: For some reason their is a perceived value of these being high. Even though these are showered on you just for logging in people have this perception that they are rare and valuable. John even came right out and said that far more are coming into the economy then are being spent. But people keep up this false perception. Even in this very thread people are predicting the rise of MC prices which is the exact opposite of reality. But the prices will rise because of this perception until people finally get a grip.
Other examples of economy interference: T2-5 cloth, leather, wood, ore being added as drops to new maps.
People dont seem to understand that the scoring changes affect the core mechanics of WvW. You cannot simply look at these changes and base whether they are good or bad because it has helped or hurt your server. These changes do not take away the need for coverage, that will always be there. What these changes do is equalize all timezones and creat a more fair scoring system for everyone. If you expected that suddenly your losing server was going to suddenly start winning every matchup, well sorry but thats not how it works.
Here is where skirmishes come in handy, a server now cannot simply gain a 50k lead over the weekend and basically end the matchup after a few days. Also in the old days if you would go to bed with your server leading by 10k, and wakeup with your server losing by 10k because of nightcapping, yea thanks to skirmishes coverage gaps are less of an issue. Even if your server ticks 0 for 2 hours you still get a point.
There will still be a need for coverage, there will still be blowout matches but these are more due to population imbalances, of course there is no perfect system that can prevent all issues. These scoring changes are important fundamental changes to WvW mechanics, and long overdue.
It’s only been a week, this is a big change, let things settle down. More changes will come, possible tweaks to skirmishes might come.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Looking at the timing of this post and the feedback I got from others, that was probably me commanding.
First off, I had no idea that OP was talking or saying anything because I have him on my ignore list. I remember him complaining ad nausium about one thing or another and being very poisonous. So, if you felt ignored by me, it wasn’t direct, it’s something inadvertent because I got tired of your endless vitriol from a long time ago.
The most important thing for me, and I mostly only do this in EB, is knowing who I can count on. If people are in TS, I know that people are going to be following my movements. Big fights require fast movement. Any delay, even a few seconds, can mean death. Also, I can communicate where I’m going longer term. I can get immediate feedback, I can count on what supply I have in squad and know that if I need something built, the people in squad, and in TS will get it built.
EB has been full of people not playing on tag, following directions, or not wanting to join TS for one reason or another. I can’t count on those folks. Commanding EB not in TS is not enjoyable to me. If I try to fight, they mostly run away.
Heck, even if people are in TS, but consitantly off tag, not scouting, not contributing, and are people I don’t know, I’ll kick them too.
It’s also a way to try to get people into TS. There are so many new players to WvW, some don’t even know we have a community TS. It can be very enriching to the WvW experience and provide more success.
I myself don’t like being in TS sometimes. Some groups chatter endlessly. I hate that. My suggestion to those of you who feel similar to me is to put your mute button on a hot key and un-mute when you get into a fight.
In the end, it’s the commanders prerogative. I’m here to have fun, just like you. I do not exist to sacrifice my fun for you. I did not sign a contract with Anet to be inclusive to every player in my squad. Fun for me, when commanding EB, is to have a closed squad and know that I can count on those people. If you don’t like it, don’t follow, or follow with the others, and do your best. Or go to another map, or start your own squad. If you don’t want to get in TS, fine. Just don’t expect to be in my squad while on EB.
You seem to have some issues with reading comprehension.
The problem is that I can’t farm the AP because it doesn’t even exist in the game.
IF there was enough AP in this game to get to 39k I would start farming it – the problem is that there isn’t – and there might never be.You’re right – I won’t start farming NOW for something that I might never be able to finish because of factors that aren’t under my control.
If I knew there was a 100% surefire way to get to the backpiece – i would farm. I am a farmer at heart. I will however not farm unless I know for a fact it’s possible to obtain – which it currently isn’t.
I am not asking for a hand-out – I am asking for CERTAINTY. I want to know that If i start grinding I can get my item.
I don’t ask for more AP with future releases because in case you haven’t noticed THERE IS TOO LITTLE CONTENT COMING IN THIS GAME.
They’re not going to make more content than they are because they can’t. So yes – I would like more AP but unlike others i’m down to earth enough to realize that MORE AP tied to content won’t be a solution – BECAUSE ANET CAN’T PRODUCE CONTENT FAST ENOUGH.
So, from your previous posts you just play for rewards, but because a reward is currently unattainable you won’t even try to get closer? If they did drop enough AP in the next LS/expansion to reach 39k you’d start grinding immediately?
What if they uncapped the AP of repeatable achievements like hobby dungeon explorer, fractal frequenter (with AP boost), made wvw/pvp achievements repeatable, and added a high-value repeatable achievement for raid clears?
Don’t cry, Signet of Mercy. Others may forget you, but I will always remember.
Our deficiencies may be overcome by practice and self-discipline.
Go ahead and respond. I’ll see to your hippocratic response.
This has nothing to do with helping the sick or abstaining
from administering poisons
Well it was a couple of polls that determined the fate of the desert borderland. Personally as much as I hate it and wish it was never implemented, I voted to keep it and for simultaneous maps for several reasons.
Even though I may not like it, WvW and GW2 being an MMO means you play with thousands of other players, I did not feel it was right to remove content that other players enjoyed and that developers worked on. I believe that as time passes more improvements can be made on it..hopefully. I also did not believe that voting it down and trashing it permanently would ever lead to us getting a new map, as much as I love alpine, playing on the same map for years gets boring for people its not hard to understand this. Simulatenous maps also gives people more choice on which map to play on, and I always feel that giving players more options and freedom is the best strategy, removing the dbl completely leaves one borderland map, and rotations turns all borderlands to the same map for 3 months at a time, I didnt think either of those options were healthy for the game.
Now everyone has a choice on what map to play on, although I think limiting it to only red bl might not be the best way to go. I dont like the dbl, so I dont play on it simple as that, but I know many that do like the dbl for a variety of reasons and I am happy they have a map they can enjoy.
It is also important to remember there are a lot of other issues since HoT that have turned players off of wvw, its not just the dbl.

You can get gold fairly easily in beetle feast if you know which mushrooms to get.
You can just about get gold in haywire by spamming either the # 2 or 3 skill. It may take a few attempts.
Lore Untangler can be done over time. I’m not sure at what interval the consoles reset.
Master Mushroom Spelunker isn’t too bad. The only issue that I had was finding the correct path where my character would actually land on a mushroom and not just hit the side near the top.
Grief Counseling is probably the easiest. It’s after the champs during the night.
First: Sylvari solidarity does not count towards the Act 1 Meta-Achievement. That’s why there are 5.
Shooting gallery Silver is very possible. I’m also not the besst at it but one may get it within a few tries. The first -15 dummies are always in the same places; memorizing them will get you the head start you need. Gold? Don’t ask me: No idea!
Bugs in Branches and Flying circus gold are also a question of memory and practise. Tendril torchers requires a little luck and he jump shroom behind the ship on top, but it’s possible.
Same goes for Sanctum Scramble and Fungus Among us (both silver).
TD adventures I don’t know enouh about to give advice. Edit: just looked up Mushroom spelunker and had it confused witha hero point. Whoops. My B.
Hope that helped. Good Luck.

Story — Acts 1 and 3 have the easiest achieves to solo. Dulfy has an excellent guide to both. My Friends the Smiths you just need to rez each of them (they do spawn mobs when you approach the body on several). Stick the Landing you land in the white circle when gliding down, also fairly easy especially once you have Lean Techniques. I’d have to look up the others to remember which they are.
Out of the Shadows — Grief Counseling — do the ghosts event chain. At the very end the last ghost, the one you’ve been escorting, will ask “am I dead?” or something like that. Do a /yes at that point. I got it by having her targeted and doing /yes @
Adventures — yeah, I don’t have the ones you list either in VB. Fungus Silver isn’t that hard (for me) after seeing a good video that showed me a couple of key spots to use the long jump skill. The trick is to long jump past a lot of terrain, and to use the speed mushrooms after the waterfall. The hardest leap for me is the one across the lacy branches before the final approach, and then getting my long jump targeted correctly for getting up to the last gate. No, I’ve never made gold, but as I say silver is doable.
In TD — Beetle Feast gold mostly takes learning to distinguish between the tasty golds and the untasty poisons. Also figuring out your skills on the run; I often flub a first run as I forget which skill is my burrow to get through the gate. It can help having non-beetles clearing out mushroom mobs for you. Lore Untangler only takes patience as the holograms reset after a while (10 minutes per question?). Learn how to get to a few of them, answer as many of their questions as you can (there are a lot more questions asked than you see on the wiki, and you only have seconds to answer so there’s not time to look it up anyway), then go on to other things and circle back to do more.
Master Mushroom Spelunker — it’s worse than a JP, it’s a timed one because if you stand still you get poisoned and slowed down. Dulfy’s guide at least tells you which mushrooms to aim to land on, and if you get to the midway ledge (and kill the mobs on it) then you have some time to breathe and consider the next series of jumps. I did it by pairing up with someone. Once one of us made it to a place to stand still, or to the end that one stayed put and the other used a tele to friend.
Chak Crusher — this does get done now and then, though everyone doing it needs poison breathing to be able to get into the area. Don’t just tag, call out in Map. “Chak Crusher is up! It gives a mastery point! You get there by going NW in Nuhoch lane to the wallows and going through the wallows!” Do this right after the lanes are ready but before everyone leaves for an hour before Gerent. If that doesn’t work, try about 20-30 minutes before Gerent as people start coming in to organize for that.
You have 2 more from raids than I do and I maxed non-raid mastery. I have faith in you!
Still wondering if I should get a Royal Terrace Pass. I hear it lacks the activity NPC that other ones have but that’s not a big deal.
I’m looking at it because I figure I could get easy access to the mystic forge NPC because I don’t want to go to Lion’s Arch. The mystic forge conduit has proved lacking because a lot of the stuff requires you to go buy the crystals and wine and crap.
The close crafting stations are nice too, but Rata Sum seems good enough as well.
My one gripe atm is that DR’s home instance is utterly terrible at node placement. I could use the gate to go to Rata Sum though.
I like the Royal Terrace due to the close location of everything I want to do, crafting, bank, laurel vendor, mystic forge, TP and gate to other cities. It is a really condensed space and it saves a lot of time from not having to run around. I was disappointed they didn’t add the activity NPC like the air ship but it isn’t a huge deal to me. It has been one of my favorite gem store purchases.
Superior arrowcarts says hello!
Seriously I dont know what you are on. 5 people can defend a keep against 30.
Does the 30 have the advantage? Well yeah. Of course. They are kittening 30 people and could easily attack from 2 or 3 directions, leaving those 5 spread thin. Especially if there is no deployed siege and the supply has been drained. IRL the besiegers have the advantage of numbers every kittening time, cause thats how you siege things. They will breach it sooner or later. Thats how a siege works ingame as well.
If you are arguing its 30 vs 30 where defenders have kittenty walls that dont help them, well gtfo on the open field and fight. Attacking a sieging force in the rear wins 90% of the time, because theres a kittening wall blocking their escape.
@ArchonWing:
Thank you for the advice… I will definitely give it a shot.. I’m open to all suggestions except those that don’t have a clue and just laugh.. lol.. .Thanks
Based on what you are currently running I swapped some stuff for you to make you somewhat useful.
Staff over axe goes without saying. Not only does it hit more targets since the latest axe nerf, it also isn’t a projectile so you can still focus a target through the projectile hate. Staff also provides a water field, a blast finisher, and a 1200 range evade for repositioning.
I’m assuming you were taking healing spring for the water field and super slow group condi cleanse. Well now you can use shouts for a mobile group condi cleanse, you’ll have WHaO which is just a way better heal on half the cooldown, and thanks to the constant regen ticking (along with the signet, life steal on crit, and natural healing for pet, and heals from staff) you will be able to pop into CA much more often to use the mobile water field on rejuvenating tides, which you can self blast with a pet swap (clarion bond).
With shouts you don’t have any need for natural stride (shouldn’t need it in a zerg anyway). Celestial shadow will help you quickly reposition if you are getting focused. The other option is you could drop 1 or both signets, trait for glyphs, and bring another group stunbreak/condi clear.
LGN
The real issue in my mind is that most players ignore what a good team composition is either out of ignorance or something else. Ranger can fulfill certain roles in a zerg as can a thief and engi. But more often than not it isn’t one or two guys playing those classes, but over half of the guys playing those classes. That is where the team really starts to hurt which is why commanders, especially if the zerg is losing fights, start to make demands of team comp. If your team composition is unbalanced, your team will struggle. You’re not going to win a fight if you are all healers and have no damage. You are not going to win a fight if you are all gank and have no melee train staying power. Etc. And you can be sure that your opponent is looking at their team comps the same way.
WvW is a team-oriented game mode. You find similar demands on team composition in PvE raids (where ranger is crucial to healing), fractals, and dungeons.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Based on the whine level from CD reached sufficient volume that Anet pulled them out of T4, its now SBI’s turn to create a ruckus.
A few days ago I said they should have rotated SoS and then YB through T4 for the next two weeks so no single T3 level pairing had to sit in a tier they don’t belong. But, why do something that makes sense – right Anet?
Any word on if Dragunknight is ever going to return? It’s always sad to watch a community fall apart because of the loss of a single commander.

No one in GW2 history has ever complained about these runes. Strength Runes were still stronger before the change and much stronger after the change. Why the nerf its a nonessential change?
Yet Durability runes remain unchanged? Do you understand the argument you nerf things that no one cares about, You buff things like venoms that people HATE. Etc etc etc….

this game cannot and will not ever be a balanced game …..and it shall not be balanced this is the challenge——playing and unballanced game
but but but …when the unballlance becomes STUPID with stupid buffs and OP chars …then its time to rethink the unballance.
Work harder ANET cause things are getting more and more stupid theese days
Its only unprofessional if they dont have +5.
It’s awesome that the devs are active.
Go hunt their pixels down instead of coming to the forums.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Reason crafting stations were removed:
1. Too many AFK PVE players taking up queue space in home boarderlands. No
2. Racial cities felt empty. Yes
I’ve never seen more than 4 people at a given time at the crafting stations in WvW, and it has never been a problem. Now, not only has the most convenient thing in the game gone, but LA takes 10x as long to load.
Work-around: Add crafting stations to Heart of the Mists, and/or player Home Instances. It’s 900 gems for a Home Portal Stone, and there’s plenty of space to add crafting stations in player HI’s.
