Legal challenge: not going to happen. Everyone is an armchair law expert. Most of them are wrong.

Refund: also not going to happen unless you bought the game very recently. Even then, good luck.

If you believe anything else then, frankly, you are dreaming.

you’re legally entitled to a refund. So yes, it is going to happen. Or else people can just charge back.

Per the terms and conditions of your transaction, you were entitled to receive “as is” access to the game server. They did not fail to deliver on that.

Actually, I think quite the reverse. MO seems to be doing triage on the game — fixing the problems that will have the most impact and bringing us things that the most people want.

He’s brought bunny ears and SAB back. He’s pushing to get the living world rolling again. These are things that will keep the player base here / bring players back again.

There are upcoming WvW fixes — though they’ve now decided to fix things in pieces rather than trying to fix it all at once (because that was taking too long). There are also upcoming changes to fractals in about 2-3 weeks. Supposedly, HoT changes are coming too, but I don’t know if it will be in this update or not. Also, they should be finishing the first raid by putting out the third wing in a few months.

What we aren’t getting seems to be legendary weapon collections (despite being promised them), world 3 of SAB, and season 1 of living story.

All things considered, they do seem to be prioritizing what will get them the most goodwill back. No, they aren’t doing everything I would like, but they are doing good things.

Finally! Fortran support!

I assume for those who are it’s more a fear of failure and/or other people than anything.

Raiding tends to be the most difficult PvE content there is and as such there will be wipes. Sometimes many, many wipes. When progressing in WoW raids it’s not uncommon to have over 100 or even 200 wipes on the more difficult bosses.

Some people can’t handle that, and/or are afraid they’ll be blamed for the wipes and treated like trash due to the perceived attitudes of other raiders which aren’t always accurate but since negativity tends to stand out more than anything else that’s what people tend to expect.

elitism, kitten-retentive players who make the game very unenjoyable, I really really dislike forced team content – especially given the mentality of the “Pro” players.
I love playing with roamers, much more down to earth, realistic, don’t whine and are elite by nature without having to impose their preferred game play on anyone else. Then the whole standing around forever while they judge anyone that wants to join.

I’m really disappointed that they made sab a suggested 5 man team, fortunately i was having fun solo with it, wish it was more open world….but i avoid anything that I have to go in with a pre-set team …I hate hate ….Hate ( extra hate added for good measure ) that mode of game play.

Ironically enough though, i do love people, just not those types.

One word:

Elitism.

And this is why the game, which prospered so much at launch, didn’t feature any kind of “elite” or arbitrarily “difficult” content. And also part of why, HoT, an expansion featured as pleasing the “hardcore” crowd has failed in the eyes of a bulk majority of players when looking at sheer numbers.

Strictly speaking, not many people care. And those that do are likely too exclusive to not care about anyone not involved in their personal affairs.

Your logic is the same as claiming a Ferrari has no prestige in real life.

If your idea of true prestige is fake points in a video game or how many pieces of green pieces of paper you can accumulate and then spend on one item, then no, I guess I don’t think either is true prestige.

/shrug. But be impressed by flash if you want. Just don’t expect others to be just as enamored by the superficial.

What people miss is that daily AP devalued real one time achievements.

1-3 AP for [insert random hard stuff like gold medal in a difficult adventure] – 10 AP for 2 games of skyhammer server a day.

What some people miss is that many people don’t care if it devalues “real one time achievements”.

Hint: those “real, one time achievements” are nothing to boast about. Try telling someone in or out of game that you got one and see if you get more than a blank look. It’s only the hard core achievement hunters who care even the slightest.

Why would I tell people out of game about ingame achievements? Ingame there are plenty of people congratulating me for my AP.

I’m confused, I got a refund for HoT but kept my core account… :o

Was it before or after the expansion launched?

There’s often a period of time after purchase that people can get refunds. It may have fallen in that time frame.

See my earlier post, in which I asked for a refund within the first hour of release. If you asked for a refund at or shortly after launch, even if not logged into the account, you were denied this and the account would be closed, which is consistent of the discussion and new policies above.

As someone else mentioned, though, nobody should expect to get a refund after playing. The only disputable part is if the content hasn’t been played, which is like being rejected for trying to return an unopened console game at the store.

19 days is a pretty long time. Definitely long enough for everyone to have a go at it, and get their achievements. It’s really not quite as farm-able as the last time around, so I suspect the novelty will wear off in a week or so anyway.

The only festival that ever lasts that long is Wintersday, and that’s probably just to account for peoples’ more hectic schedules around the holidays, both the players and Anet themselves.

Why not keep it in the game forever? I never understood this…

Because people would get bored of it and not care whereas releasing it now is finally giving people something different to do. By the sounds of it, SAB will be a yearly event now. It’s too bad that they didn’t keep up with that original plan of reoccurring events from the start, as we could have had a different event every other month all along.

Why not keep it in the game forever? I never understood this…

Because then players will play it till they’re ghost white and get all the skins and never return to it, other than new achievements. Unless they take out selling the skins and just have them as random drops, like fractals.

Probably would be best if they left it as a limited time april fools holiday event every year.

I wonder why it isn’t a permanent part of the game, as popular as it is, and as desperately as we need content to actually play right now.

If it was in the game permanently, it wouldn’t be new/different content for long. After a couple of months people would be bored again because they’d run SAB enough times that they’re tired of it. I’m not saying it SHOULDN’T be in the game permanently; I’m just saying its permanent presence wouldn’t really be all that helpful.

And we all now how people LOOOOOOVE time gated event in a game “where you play the way you want to”…

Seriously people, give it a rest. You can play the way you want within the confines of the game. That’s plainly obvious. It’s like when something isn’t exactly the way you want it to be you think that they lied to you because they promised you a game that somehow allow you to do anything you want, any time you want.

How come I can’t play this game on my 3DS? I was told I can play the way I want!

Hehe, try getting a refund on the Infinite Continue Coin. They’ve been refusing refunds or apologies on that since 2014. Even if it comes back tomorrow, how many people that bought it are even still playing?

You, sir, had a clairvoyant vision of the future, except it wasn’t tomorrow, but today :p

To OP:

You knew you would buy a product that wouldn’t have everything implemented at the start. Ideas are made, some ideas are worked out and some ideas are found too expensive to make. It’s what happens everywhere. At least you got a game that is fully functional, that will be added to, in time, maybe not with the content that was told you at the start, but there will be new content.

I personally wouldn’t see a reason to offer a refund at all, especially not after almost half a year of play time.

As I remember from a long ago post, account termination after a refund is because of their insurance. It costs them money to process refunds, chargebacks, etc, and their financial insurance requires them, by contract, to take a hard line on the situation and permanently close the accounts.

And to reverse any benefit that the account received from having access to the expansion.

Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it had a warning right on the box that if it was opened you couldn’t return it? Good times.

Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it would be a full game, with parts not taken out like a jigsaw puzzle, or missing entirely until a later date and then outright cancelled? Good times.

Well that would be no MMO….ever. lol

I understand the anger with the legendary weapons. I really do, but I didn’t do it. So let’s not get kitteny with me.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I understand not rolling back to an extent as that could be a complex nightmare for support, and then a horrible game-decision one with the economic issues alone.

It’d also be kind of like opening a packaged console game, playing it/beating it, and then going to try and return it for full price; it just doesn’t work that way.

That said, I tried getting a refund before I even logged into my account when HoT released and the policy was still account suspension, however, despite there being no things to roll back or any potential damage (a sealed game). Once you pay, you’re effectively locked in, and I’m not too keen on that much.

Unless you bought HoT recently, I do not see why you should be refunded.

Has WvW been implemented?
Have legendary weapons?

No.

to be fair 3 new weapons have been. So you can’t say they literally haven’t

Have you been playing HoT content?
Have you been using new specs/profs?

I don’t really think it’s a try befor you buy situation. Comparing this to food services isn’t exactly a good model. Maybe saying a video game you were promised 8 things from, you bought it with 4 of them ready to go, and were waiting for the remaining parts to be added. You played the game for 7 months and the devs didn’t add everything you had expected (1 thing got canceled) and you want a refund.

Just a few issues.

You played for 7 months…
By roll back to pre hot, what do you mean. Just lock all HoT content on your account? What about HoT only unlocks/cheevos, what about money/gold/exp you earned in HoT content? Or do you mean roll back your entire account to befor you purchased? (could also have issues)

You’re lucky to even get a refund. Under consumer law they are not obliged to even give you one. You’ve used the product for 7 months, and in there T&C’s it is clearly outlined that changes can be made to the product at their discretion… I think $50 or whatever you made for the game is pretty good for 7months of play time considering some games are the same price and offer a single campaign worth 10 hours of playtime…

What’s the ridiculous part? Getting the refund? Or giving them 7 months to deliver what they promised before finally calling it quits? I think 7 months is more time than they deserved for people who feel like they need a refund.
I enjoy the game enough to want to stick with it for now, but I can totally understand why people are angry and want to just pull the plug and get what money they can salvage.

But you did play for seven months, didn’t you? I can’t imagine in which country there are laws to protect seven month old purchases

I agree with you. I think a roll back to before you owned HoT is reasoanble.

I’ve spent money on gem store items that would be wiped out, that’s atrocious business from Anet.

I don’t get you, I’m agreeing with you and you’re still arguing with me. Force of habit maybe?

Wow you guys are still playing this, that’s dedication.. I left years ago but just purchased HOT now i’m a bit worried what i’ve bought…
