the nerf was most certain not for toxic reasons. that would be absurd, unless you live in a bubble and hide in a far away cave in Tyria, They’d have to nerf/get rid of 80% of the people. Everything in this game has toxic people. That’s a mmo (surprise). People were making too much money(also surprise) so anet had to drop the hammer on it.It was to prove a point which you missed. But fine, I’ll revise. In the same universe as Tyria, there is a planet made of ice cream. There is also a golden, shiny planet in the shape of cheese. Disagree with me? Prove me wrong.
Farms were nerfed for toxic chat before.
I would see your point, had this not been about guild wars 2…and in the Guild wars 2 universe…which is the problem.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I don’t think so, unless you could prove that wrong. I have never read something being nerfed because of chat. It is an mmo, if some one gets their undies in a bind over what some one said, they need to find a new game.
How about the Queensdale champ farm and the toxic chat related to that?
yes it was toxic? did I just not say this game has toxic areas? that was nerfed because it was farmable. they do not nerf stuff because of players, there wouldn’t be a game. If people are making more money than they should be anet will nerf it, just like everything else they have to cripple farming.
Shall I point out the part I was referring to in your post?
I have never read something being nerfed because of chat
That was nerfed because of toxic chat in the starting areas. They removed all those champs, but not the high level champs. The farm switched to there and continued there with zergs of people farming the champs, until better farms came up.
ANet may give it to you.
Maize Balm farm was one of most cancerest so far, poor players that were lvling in the area were bullyed by crazy mob of naked people.
Ah yes the ’Every inconvenient economic change exists to sell gems" defense.
No.
That’s not it.
When they want to shill gems they do exactly what they’ve been doing. They create overpriced “appearance Packs” and rachet the release rate of gem store skins up to 11.
They don’t derive a meaningful amount of gem sales from gems purchased specifically for gold/gem sales, and they don’t give a crap about booster sales. That exachange rate doesn’t meaningfully alter the economy because buying gems doesn’t create gold and furthermore they give away so many boosters that leaving them in the shop is an afterthought
It’s the same reason that PLEX prices in EVE are a reflection of, not a motivator for, the value of currency or relative gold/currency ratios, and EVE was the originator of the “sanctioned gold selling” idea.
They’ve shown pretty clearly that when they’re desperate for gems money they simply add more crap to the gem store and less to the game. They don’t nerf ingame gold faucets to encourage gem trading because in order to get a good gold rate for gems, people have to be able to farm gold in the first place to sell it to the buyer
As for your attestation that you had more fun maize farming than doing HoT content, that’s completely subjective, and intentionally obtuse. Point is they didn’t design balms for farming. They don’t design anything for “stand here and kill x 90 times” farming. They design the game around completing instances, PvP matches, or Events. They’ve made changes multiple times to every mob farm that became disruptive to intended play patterns. Including as recently as nerfing the verdant brink spider farm. They didn’t nerf the CoF farm because its in an instance and has no disruptive effect on other players in an economic or practical play sense.
In your haste to just talk crap about HoT and Anet, you’re blinding yourself to the facts. Anet’s management has been screwing up and chasing cash at the expense of player enjoyment a lot lately, but that has nothing to do with maizebalm nerfs or any ingame economic adjustments.
By your logic, one could attribute any change in any game with a cash shop to ‘they nerfed it so they can sell more gold’

sigh Ahh nostalgia….. Ah, good memories. wipes away tear
Having flashbacks to “Incorrigible Ale-Hound” acquisition. Weeeeeeeee!
At least you don’t have to wait for a fricking timer between drinks to get the associated points.
Let the good times roll!
Yep, I remember those days. Glad I got that over and done with, mostly during the timer days.
Yeah, I had mine done before they changed how that worked in GW1. Even tried the whole mapping thing to earn extra points and such. After they implemented just drinking it for points, thus cutting out the waiting, I was mildly peeved. Same when they changed the tonics for Party Animal. I don’t know how many hours I’d spent popping from map to map and popping tonics for points. sigh
Lol. I remember the party animal one. Pop Tonic, change map, pop tonic, change map, pop tonic, change map,…..
It became a trifle tedious after a stack or two of tonics.

1) There have been threads with players complaining about being harassed when killing ambient a whether it be to complete a heart, go for the achievement, or as they’re passing through. They were not in their own bubble.
2) It could be automated and was. Not difficult to program a bot to go around in a set loop I would imagine. Bots have done more complicated things.
3) Maize farming wasn’t restricted for the reasons that you listed.
4) Doesn’t mean that this method needs to get reinstated. Have you tried node farming for lower tiered wood logs and ore?
All wrong. ArenaNet just decided to ruin “lower tiered wood logs” in their latest patch. So, they need to reinstate old methods of farming gold.
All that I said were true. Please provide source that Anet ruined lower tier wood log farming with the latest patch.
Source? Look at the prices now. Go on. Have a little look.
It’s not ruined as you can still farm it as you did before and make a decent amount of gold. It’s just not as lucrative as before with the 30G/hr. I also don’t see anything stating what the cause so how are you certain that it is Anet?
Oh the bags. Like I said, you can still farm the nodes and there’s still the T6 node farm. It’s also not the only farm.
Farming wood is now pointless, like every other farm in the game.
Nope. You can still do the T6 node farm. Ancient wood logs and Orichalcum ore remain relatively unchanged.

You’re missing the point.
They nerfed maize balm farming (and in fact nerf pretty much all unintended farms eventually) because it created an antagonistic relationship between farmers and people playing the game as intended.
Maize balm was added to the game as a utility item for some random halloween cheer, just like toilet paper and raw eggs. The fact that players decided to use it as a primary method of earning income was a failing in the design of the item, and anet wasn’t aware of the problem until those farmers got really up in the face of all the new free to play guys that were just playing the game as intended. Then forum posts were made, anet was made aware, and they fixed the design flaw.
Now it still has its intended function, but it can’t be abused in an unintended manner.

It could be much, much worse than what is going on right now. At least there’s an option to pay for gems with gold, some mmo devs don’t even allow that option.
I dont want to pay it with GEMS or GOLD, they deserve neither, i want to earn it in game.
If you don’t want to pay it with gems or gold, then where will the devs get money to make content?
Answer: From the purchase price.
GW2 was B2P and HoT is B2P. B2P = buy to play.
Then all games that charge a subscription (currently or in the past) are ripping players off as they could have been supported without them?
Confirmed: Toxicity in Gw2 equals wasteland

I think the toxicity resides mostly here in the forums! it goes in all forms call them HoT haters, Balance haters, people that argue just to defend a point made earlier, Anet haters, dev abandonment haters,… and the self called elites that I would call errors intolerant instead. I see most real elites being veteran players mostly coming from GW1, a game with a rather mature population of gamers who enjoys thinking over manual skill …etc.. not the topic, but those players are usually happy to help, most of them are organized tho, so they are those nice souls in your guild that helps new players go through the content.
Personally, I have explored all game modes and I see mostly friendly players willing to help or minding their own business … There is tho some toxicity I can acknowledge and the only place I have seen it is in the speed runners community. I am talking about the people that wants to finish dungeons and fractal runs in the less time possible (even while pugging xD )but you can spot them in the lfg tool. To be honest I thought that was the normal and the thought kept me from playing Dungeons, since I was a first timer I wouldn’t be welcomed so … (I missed the whole gold rush thing T_T) ..same happened with fractals… I took a long break from GW2 and came back, that’s when I gave dungeons/fractals a second chance … now it’s easier to spot casual runs in the lfg window…if you don’t see them, you can organize them and people will join just to have fun.. youll see lots of people saying it’s my first time or I don’t have experience beforehand (same applies for fractals) and it’s totally fine, nobody complains and they give short explanations… all those runs end up well !!! maybe a swipe or two occasionally, we explain the situation and finish the thing.. people being so happy they wanna keep rerunning.
Now to be fair, not all speed runners are toxic, neither speed running is bad… is a valid way to have fun or get profit but some might put in perspective… The time they save by running with the perfect team, they spend it by trying to assemble it.
Edit: While the old elites would try to craft a legendary weapon, the new “elites” would re run dungeons (Now chest farming) ..until they can buy it.
(edited by kuritsutian.2987)
GW2 is one of the cheapest that exist in this regard. I crafted my ascended gear, all without having to buy one gem. It took near 30 days, cuz i was crafting time gated items.
Even in some inflation-season i trade gold for gems and buy something.
The cycle between new stuff on gem store, give time to save some gold.
There is no reason to complain.
Oh and now I’m close to 5k AP. they give 400 free gems. i will save it for when black wings come back on gem store.
(edited by ugrakarma.9416)
It’s a shame that people think this gem store is so bad. Cause you know, it’s really not.
It’s eating away the content, with huge chunks.
It is bad for the game, because it brings absolutely NO value to gaming experience.Different people work on the gem store stuff. The people who make content, bug fix etc have nothing to do with what is made for the gem store. So I really don’t see how it is eating in to content.
In a sense it does, instead of releasing it in the Gem store, they could make it obtainable by just playing the game.
Thats not content, thats rewards.
Rewards are content, GEM store is not. GEM store is something you purchase, I could argue that GEM store is mini DLC.. You purchase additional stuff. Wanze, i know you don’t complain about GEM store, because that’s how you play the game. TP game. Can’t judge you, but that’s a shame that only people like you have benefit of that..
POOR gaming experience
Gem store is content if you consider rewards content. Because gold is a reward and you can turn that into gems. So you can earn gem store items from just playing the game.
I suppose you’re willing to pay X amount per month for more content where you can earn it through playing said content? By the way, if you want to refer to GW1 for examples, be sure to keep in mind that the dev team from back then was much smaller (about 150 people if I remember correctly) compared to the current team of 300+ people.
Verbal abuse does get looked into – I’ve seen people coming back from a three day suspension, complaining in map chat about their punishment not being ‘fair’ and that they’ve had their ‘Human right to freedom of speech’ violated.
In most cases, if you’ve personally reported someone for verbal abuse via the in-game system, just like reporting bugs you won’t hear of an outcome.
But as others said, don’t just report – but block violators too. The quotation from Just a flesh wound is spot on.
It funds the game
Makes my characters look pretty and others too
Offers convenience items
Is vastly superior to some mmo online stores
Takes almost nothing away from the game development since it is a separate team
The main criticisms I have, is that we need more earnable skins in game and the balance is skewed. But since the teams on each have separate and dfferent workloads, i can understand that issue arising. I also find the pricing to be too high. As a retailer i can see that there are greater opportunities to be had from a better pricing system and removing rng from things like dye packs.
Is the gem store a problem? No, quite the opposite
It’s a shame that people think this gem store is so bad. Cause you know, it’s really not.
It’s eating away the content, with huge chunks.
It is bad for the game, because it brings absolutely NO value to gaming experience.
I don’t know. I wouldn’t say that funding the game adds no value to the gaming experience. lol
I get this A LOT no matter which account I play. I can’t just block everyone… I have many times more people on my blocklist than on my friendslist. I hardly play GW2 much because of how I am
1) being stalked
2) verbally abused
3) druid is bad (ok not related). But please, more ways to deal with this… we can’t even change our account names just for this reason…
[redacted]
Why do I have to go play another game/chat platform just to talk to my friends and other decent people?
A) you can still keep blocking. Block and move on. No big deal.
B) I notice that you whited out all your responses. I find that interesting.
(edited by Moderator)
You can indeed just block everyone who does this. Once an account is blocked you never have to worry about them again unless you unblock them. The key is to IMMEDIATELY block them without responding if they start to harass you. If they start telling their friends to message you just keep right-clicking and blocking. Don’t give them any satisfaction by responding because you are playing right into their trap. My blood pressure has dropped significantly after adopting this approach because I really could not care less what random internet troll thinks about me and no amount of me responding will ever make them apologize.
If you are consistently getting this though are you sure you are not instigating somehow? I’m not making any assumptions, but you know the saying, “If everyone you meet is a [insert expletive], then you might be the [expletive]”. If you are not instigating, then I would recommend preemptively blocking people who you think may get super salty at you. I block trolls in PvP all the time before they say a word to me because they don’t deserve to even be able to send me a message.

ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead
Each case of reported “stalking” or harassment is reviewed by our Customer Support team individually and with care. Here are some steps you could take:
Block the player on your Friends List
Play in Invisible Mode
Try reaching out to the person’s guild leader if you feel that the person would be receptive to helping you
File an in-game report
Submit a support ticket (see below for details)
If the harassment extends to real life (at your home, place of business, via telephone, etc.), contact your local law enforcement agency
Now, there are occasions when claims of “harassment” run in both directions. I am not making a judgment about any situations mention here, but sometimes chat records show a back-and-forth bickering or attacking that does not allow an easy solution. This means an agent confirms an in-game report but also notes that the alleged victim also was in breach of the UA or the RoC. If there’s evidence of what we call “mutual antagonism” then it gets trickier and a resolution isn’t as simple to reach.
If someone is overtly harassing a player, the team may well be able to help with the situation if that player wishes to file a support ticket. (We cannot accept a ticket on behalf of a third party — the person involved should reach out to CS.) When doing so, please provide your character name, the offending player’s character or display name, and a very precise time, time zone, and date. Screenshots are not necessary if you can provide those details, at which time an agent will look up the incident and see what took place.
Bottom line: if you’re being harassed, do not react. Do not have your friends react. Don’t post about it on a forum or make a public issue of it. Do not start a flame war or fire a bunch of verbal mortar shots back in the direction of the person who initiated the attacks. Simply submit an in-game report or, if necessary, a ticket.
If you have submitted a ticket and the team has not reacted, then you need to continue your private discussion with a CS agent, as we would not discuss particulars here on the forums.
ANet may give it to you.
