Officer of Power Overwhelming[ZERK].
First term Forum PvE Specialist.
Having a happy veteran player base is better as they will convince others to play who will be more loyal. 99% if the player base is not unhappy, just those willing to go to the forums. Gw1 had a bunch of things like this.
The problem with the three new legendary weapons is they just aren’t good. They aren’t eternity status for wow factor.
Hellfire, is locked away in achievement points, but hey that is something so I agree.
As stated this is not really HoT related.
Second locking titles, and other cosmetic behind long tasks, especially consuming holiday items is something they have always done. It is just the first time in gw2. It was all over gw1 and still accepted.
As it seems the collection isn’t going anywhere. And as Arena Net is famous for. Next year will be a other chance to get the drinks. Or buy the gifts way later in the year for cheap and get the drinks.
Gw2 has always had the problem of no prestige factor with cosmetics. Dungeon armor, everyone had, mystic forge skins no one cared for, fractal skins were not very good. Legendries’ I am assuming 75% of players bought them.
So then came the Halloween skins you could earn by RNG, the first year ones. They cost more than most legendary weapons on the TP. And so on.
Now we come to the current. Where we have a mystic forge recipe that costs a lot of gold, and is also more costly than more legendary weapons.
People complained about the RNG.
Now we have a collection for the next prestige skin, 80% of it is is doing the holiday events and making a few easy mystic forge items. The rest is drinking consumables that you get for just playing.
These skins are suppose to take time to give prestige. I have only seen two people with nightfury, and one with the snow one.
This is good, it adds what the game needs. Just my two cents. I know people will complain about needing to grind for something they want for free or cheap. But it is what it is, and remember it is an optional thing to do. If you want it, commit to it.

Yep, according to the text it’s only available during wintersday. On the other hand, Wintersday comes every year. If you can’t continue next year, people are going to be pretty mad.
It’s a collection, it’s probably meant to be done over more than one Christmas. The collection will remain. Particularly because we have trees in our home instance and can chip away at it.
Edit: If they make it so you can’t get it after Wintersday, it’s going to be a very big mistake.
You just do not get the main price if you fail.
And I don’t get the main prize if someone else fails either.
Straight out of the patch notes ,
“•There are returning and new permanent Wintersday achievements as well as new daily achievements.”
I’d assume it is to stay.
It actually fits well with the GW1 Drunkard line…post change that is. Pre-change in GW1 you would end up consuming over 100,000 beverages for the 10k title, mainly because you had to be T3-5 on drunk to get 1 point per minute, meaning more drinks required to spend 10,000 minutes (literal minutes) drunk. The Sweet Tooth title for GW2, is much more forgiving as it too required 10k to achieve max title.
can i report someone for this cause that kitten is NOT COOL
I’d be appalled if you could, there’s far worse things people do in this game than that which aren’t reportable.
Yes, posting a spoiler is a jerk move, but frankly if anyone really, really doesn’t want to get spoiled they shouldn’t be using the Internet, watching TV news, reading newspapers, etc. etc.
Wait til you hear about Santa Claus…
Stars Wars will be spoiled that’s simply the way things work, if it’s not here it will be somewhere else. Sorry it matters to you but I really doubt there is a TOS infraction for that.
Rewarding the bad players with undeserved rewards will just lower their incentive to optimise their builds and equipment.
Most players have a pretty good idea about optimization
They really don’t, you’re overestimating people.
Rewarding the bad players with undeserved rewards will just lower their incentive to optimise their builds and equipment.
Everyone deserves some rewards just for showing up and playing, imo.
Most players have a pretty good idea about optimization, and many disregard it anyway. That info has been completely accessible for a long time now. There’s no big secret to it. From what I’ve seen players don’t really optimize their gear to meet challenges, it’s a mindset you either have or don’t.
Open world content should be adjusted to the lowest common denominator. It’s far less hassle that way.
Why should people who optimise their equipment be punished with boring encounters just because of some unteachable players?
On the flip side of that; why should good players be punished by losing fights they deserved to win because of bad players?
At the end of the day I’d rather the bad players get rewards they don’t deserve than good players be denied rewards they do deserve.
Did anyone read the changes or just complaining? Here….
" Fixed an issue that was causing the chak gerents to scale too aggressively when players joined their lanes"
…. the problem with the original design was that players, especially some pins, started screaming at other players for “scaling it up”. It began making the event toxic. So the Dev’s fixed the scaling issue so the full map population can join in the fight now. As it should have been to begin with.
A bit hard? Failing over and over after a hour or so of preparation each time because of a slip up or bug was not “a bit hard”. It was ridiculous.
And, unless they removed all the mechanics involved in that meta aside from the gerent itself, saying it’s now “press 1 to win” is just wrong, period.
I don’t think DS is about press 1 to win, the failure chance is also around 20-30%, it just gave u chance to try again before time ran out.
Not easier, equal. We should all have an equal chance to get things in this game.
When you make content that is especially difficult or impossible for players with disabilities to do part of a requirement for an event, item or story, then you are actively excluding players. You are making them less than the other players.
Imagine you are a brown eyed person, and you enjoy a game. Most of the time, the colour of your eyes has no impact on your gameplay; you make some adjustments, you avoid optional content that is difficult for you, and you keep playing. Then they start adding required content that works better for blue eyed people. Blue eyed people can get through it just fine, so can green eyed people… but for brown eyed people, it is difficult, even physically debilitating and harmful.
And people’s response to that? To tell you to suck it up, quit whining, just ‘keep practicing’, to not expect the devs to make it ‘easier’ for you, because that ruins it for everyone else. All because you want equal access to the game.
This whole attitude is exactly why, when I got violently ill playing a particular HoT story mission, I wrote directly to GW2 support… only to be told I needed to go post on the forum, because that’s where the Devs are.
I didn’t want to post here on the forum, because despite it being 100% better than most MMOs, it is still filled with people who would happily insult me, belittle me, and berate me for trying to ‘ruin’ their game, just because I expect better out of ANet- not content that is deliberately designed to trigger physical disability.
I dont think anyone should be belittled for anything. But asking for content to be easier because it is difficult for you or for certain people is a very slippery road.
I am colorblind. Many traps, and tell rings (like the ones in the winterday JP) are extremely difficult for me. I have to work extra hard and put in more effort because I am disabled in the visual department.
But I have absolutely no problem with that!
I have to work hard, so what? I get slammed in the face all the time with skritt thrown snowballs that I cant see coming very easily because the ring matches the color of the ground to me. Is it frustrating, yes, but I am not going to demand that ANet change the game for me or to make getting the shoulders easier for everyone just so I have an easier time.
That would be incredibly selfish of me. And that is precisely how I feel about others who do do this, it is nothing less than being selfish.
I am also poor enough that I can’t afford anything from the gem store. I don’t complain about it because why should I deserve something I have not earned?
I am sorry, I am equally empathic towards others disabilities as I’m sure they are toward mine, but people need to understand their limitations. Work toward the things they CAN get rather than trying to ruin everyone else’s experience by cheapening their victories.
I could not disagree with you more.
Its this mentality that everyone should have everything regardless of effort put forth that wrecks games. Not that I’m not sympathetic to those who cant get the stuff they want, but like playing CoD/BF/WoW/any game and complaining that you cant do X because its hard and it should be nerfed to fit you, It’s just silly.
In addition the game has so many cool looking kitten near free items that you can use to make your character look cool. (I got mine looking that way i want with 800 gems and some teq runs)
BTW I will not be getting winters day presence this year, I want it BUT I don’t have the time so I wont be. I want it but 10k drinks is 9k drinks to many IMHO.
(edited by Negrudamus.7581)
I agree that this is a game and it’s meant as something that is supposed to be fun for folks, which is why I urge people to do the stuff that is fun and avoid the stuff that’s boring or overly frustrating. Not everyone is going to complete every achievement and there are always going to be items we covet but can’t have.
That’s not a bad thing . This game has so many shinies that are easily obtained, why can’t it have a few that are really challenging, either in skill or invested time or both?
I doubt I’ll go for Winter’s Presence because I don’t have the patience to learn the JP (I’ve spent time in it before and enjoyed the effort; I don’t enjoy it any longer). And I don’t see a problem with that — it’s not my cup of tea, but that leave a ton of other chieves and items that are still within my ability to earn.
While well written, I have to disagree with you.
You are right, there are people who are simply unable to get certain items from the game. But to make it easier for those people is to cheapen it for others who are proud of what they’ve done. If we hand out items to every player with minimal effort no one has any reason to put any effort into it. That is what’s killing WoW btw. You give to one hand by taking from the other.
I don’t have Winters Presence or Nightfury and I never will, I dont have the time to grind out the parts for them. But I have absolutely no problem with that. I know my limitations, I know what it is that I deserve based on what I’ve put in. I don’t feel that I deserve it despite being unable to put the effort in to getting it. And that’s fine, because people like me make those items all the more great for the people who have them.
If we all had them, they stop being special.
We need a title for this. There’s one in GW1 for drinking 10k points worth of booze! Where’s our “Incorrigible Ale-Hound” Title? =O
Remove the ability to choose karma boosters
Add karma food.
Right hand, meet left hand. You two need to talk.
If memory serves, Anet did kind of sort of possibly elude to including karma boosters back in the game when they removed the option from enchanted boosters. As per usual, we’re left speculating on whether or not the Wintersday goodies are the items they meant.
In the patch notes they said
Patch notes
The Boosts category of the Gem Store has been reworked. All previous boosters are no longer available. Previously purchased boosters will still work.
A new Experience Booster is now available that grants 50% additional experience from all sources and game types, including WvW and PvP reward tracks, and gives a killstreak bonus on enemy NPCs.
A new Item Booster is now available that grants crafting, gathering, and magic find benefits from a single source and summons a merchant if the player’s inventory is full after gathering resources.
A new Heroic Booster is now available that grants both Item Booster and Experience Booster effects.
Single Experience Booster and Item Booster prices have been reduced by 33% permanently.
Karma Boosters are now available exclusively from in-game rewards.
For a limited time, you can claim a free Heroic Booster by visiting the Gem Store.
Since the patch notes were talking only about various boosters, there isn’t a real reason to think the karma boosters that are now available exclusively from in game rewards refer to food made available 4 months later.
Soooo… basically if you’re a casual gamer and/or have something more to do the coming days you’re not getting the shoulders… that’s great, well done Anet
well, if they take away the collection sometime and you can’t complete it next year or the year after, THEN you have a complaint but as it looks.. you’ll be able to complete this collection at your own pace, even if it takes years (just remember, you can get a present a day from your home instance.. might take thousands of days but you could eventually pull it off).
As for the meta achievement, it looks like once again it’ll be easier to just do spvp if you still need any of the minis, only real loss then is the title, since I think you actually do need both the drink and food achievements to complete the meta, you won’t get the title as a casual.
I just realized, I’m not sure if you’re asking other forummers whether they’re mad, as in angry, or you’re asking Anet whether they are mad, as in crazy.
It could be either.
This is the question of the century.
Having flashbacks to “Incorrigible Ale-Hound” acquisition. Weeeeeeeee!
At least you don’t have to wait for a fricking timer between drinks to get the associated points.
Let the good times roll!
Yep, I remember those days. Glad I got that over and done with, mostly during the timer days.
Yep, I actually set up a timer to beep every 3 minutes so I could click on the next drink.
Did that for the whole title – now that’s hardcore amirite??
The casuals, loved this game because it was casual, we could accomplish things at our own pace while juggling work, family and other real life commitments.
You can still do any of it at your own pace. It just might take longer than you want it to. And that is not ANet’s problem.
The casuals, loved this game because it was casual, we could accomplish things at our own pace while juggling work, family and other real life commitments.
If we had time to grind, I’m sure we would have gone with WoW, which is what GW2 is becoming, so why not just play WoW when that has everything already set up? I know a few people who left for WoW on those basis. I’d join them if I had time to grind.
You pretty much prove right there why casual people still play GW2 … because they don’t need to grind to get things they want.
Going forward, GW2 needs to abbandon this “challenging group content” kitten and “e-sport pvp ladder” system and just focus on what MADE GW2 special.
Its a game, people can play at their own leisure for fun, with nothing overly complicated about that at all.
Because screw the players who actually want the game to be interesting and challenging, am I right!!!! Even now most of the game is extremely easy. Dungeons are easy, Low level fractals are easy, Core Tyria is easy. Heart of Thorns is more challenging for the average players, but much of it’s content is still relatively easy and completable with PuGs. The most significant ascended gear is trinkets/rings/amulets which are EASY to get. Ranked PvP, legendary weapons, ascended armor/weapons, coordinated groups, etc. ARE NOT REQUIRED to play almost all of GW2. Stop being so selfish and realize that the hardcore players want something to do as well.
Things that people claimed weren’t casual friendly pre-HoT:
Fractals (3 mini dungeons plus a boss?! I don’t have time for that I play 20min a day, I’m casual!)
Dungeons (I can’t get into a group because I don’t have zerk gear and I don’t speedrun! I’m casual!)
World completion (why do we have to do WvW for world completion, I’m casual, I don’t like PvP!)
Story-mode finale (I need a group to finish the story?! what the heck Anet! I’m too casual for that!)
Living Story S1 (these LS events are timed?! You’re saying I can’t do all of the achievements within the 2 weeks if I only play 10min a day?! I’m casual, wtf ANET!
Living Story S2 (wtf Anet, I didn’t log in when these were released because I’m super casual, and now you want me to grind gold so I can trade for gems? I’m casual! I don’t have the time nor money to do this!)
Dailies (Whoa, Anet, look at how long it’s taking to do these dailies! And I have to do it to get laurels?! I’m only on for 2min a day! I can’t possibly get all of this AP that you are forcing me to get! Make it casual friendly!)I think a lot of people think that casual friendly means everything needs to be able to be completed quickly or easily. A casual player does not imply a bad player, it implies someone that plays at their own, typically slow, pace. Being able to do things at your own pace: that’s the definition of being casual friendly.
In GW2 you can do literally everything at your own pace (minus holiday events, as those are time limited). That is casual friendly. Raids is the only area that I would say has the biggest obstacle to casual players, and that’s getting a 10man group together.
I’d love to hear what exactly in GW2 you couldn’t do at your own, casual, pace.
If something takes a long time, it doesn’t mean it isn’t casual friendly, it just means it will take longer to complete, but it can still be 100% casual.
People claimed crafting legendaries wasn’t casual, but I can assure you I crafted two from scratch, casually, over the course of 2 years. Some days I felt like working towards a requirement, some days I didn’t. I dictated the pace I completed things. THAT IS CASUAL.
Million…Million times this.
And the worst part is that by addressing and keeping to the formula they had for 3 years, GW2 would never be able to sustain for a long time since the dedicated folks that wanted more challenge would never receive it would end up leaving, despite the fact GW2 has one of the best combat systems in an MMO ever. The casual players wane out over time, seeing the same old ‘new content’ that doesn’t do anything but provide skins maybe. What incentive is there to stick around without long-term goals? Why play?
Arenanet needed to included challenging content, and slightly up the difficulty in open-world. We are a few months into Heart of Thorns, players have finally got these maps covered, they have seen and dare say met the challenges facing them. People need to realize that by surviving and playing in the jungle and succeeding at events and exploration, they have subtly gotten better at the game than they were before HoT. Most definitely, they had to adjust or else!
Now if only they made the HoT maps naturally fill to say Hard Cap before creating a new instance, rework the player instance entrances a bit, and I believe the open-world HoT would be just dandy!
I am extremely casual in the way I play the game. A normal played day was about 8 hours on a worknight and about 14 per day on a weekend.
I was excited to see that legendary armor was going to be added, but they are locked behind a single way to obtain them, and this is a way that is entirely NOT casual. I have no interest in grouping with other players for their “skilled” event. I don’t even group with players when just farming world bosses. But I can still join in the event even without their permission or consent.
I would much rather play solo and “casually” join a group for an open world event rather than need to study and learn an encounter so that I can assist beating the redundant AI in an instance where we are limited in the number of people to bring.
