To be honest, I see it as a fad item and people will move on to the next hot item. Remember how everyone was all about those wing back item skins? How many people do you see using them now? How about that celestial dragon mini?

Wait wait wait. I CAN’T ENJOY GAME WITHOUT WINTER PRESENCE?

Let’s be honest, if everything would be easy to get, we would have left the game 2 months after the release. 3 years community was screaming “We want challanges, we want new goals” and when we finally get it, we whine of how unfair it is. Every achievement in the game is OPTIONAL. And yes it is unfair and I feel sorry for those who can’t do certain things. But you don’t need to grind JP to get Winter’s Presence. We all knew something new is going to be added to the game. I personally started farming Silverwastes month ago (which requires 2 fingers to do) and now i’m already half way through this achievement. Even when this event will end you could still farm gold and buy drinks to finish your achievement.

Also, what is an achievement? The definition of achievement – a thing done successfully with effort, skill, or courage.

There are many ways to get Winter’s presence:
Do the events
Do farm gold:
SW
champ trains
fractals
etc.
Just by playing the game

Once again, I’m sorry for those can’t get this achievement by doing JP. But there are work arounds if you really want and achievements have to be hard to reach.

Peace,

Just HoT. HoT have core game include free for new customer.

heh
isnt that kind of a middle finger to the ppl who bought both?

As someone who bought both, naw. The $50 was worth it to play for three years, and the $50 for HoT has been worth it… mostly. I’m still salty about some of the changes they made.

New player do not have the 3 year of game play older player have. New player do not get to do living story season 1 older player had. New player have to buy living story season 2 if want to play it. New player do not have all achievement and other thing older player have. Core game include free so new player do not have to pay two time to play game. It is marketing to get more new player to buy game and not have pay twice for it. Did you make complain when core game was for sale for 10 and older player pay full price?

If you have much time can read all about this argue here.

LMFAO. You might as well avoid all means of online communications then. I honestly don’t know if this is a joke or what, but I’ll throw an example out there. If you go on Twitch, and the streamer just happens to be talking about Star Wars, people will just RIP random characters. I mean, can you really be that surprised?

The thing opens today …… spoilers will be out in just a few hours anyway….. If you didn’t want to know then you should have just turned off the computer and the radio and the TV and don’t answer your phone until you see the movie. That is the only way you should not see any spoilers.

Dear OP…
Did you notice by chance, that you’re doing the same stuff you’re complaing about just with this thread? XD
You should change the title to something like: Star Wars spoiler in LFG – or something and hide your picture in a spoiler – unless you’re not a troll.

Then, if you don’t want to be spoiled in any way – just lock yourself away, keep TV and Radio off, plus the Computer and cancel any social contacts until you’re able to go to the movies. Oh and please, don’t forget you use headphones and listen to loud music should you have to go by bus or walk, someone could talk about it at the bus stop, or on the way to the cinema, not to mention IN the cinema or in front of it. So don’t forget to leave your earphones in until the movie really starts. Just my tips for not getting spoiled. :P

Oh and for next time, if you’re so anxious about the whole spoiler thing, save up your money in advance and get a ticket for the premiere.

And finally… Who the heck is Han Solo? I’m so glad SW never had an impact on me at all.

Wintersday is scheduled to end on January 12, 2016. words from Gaile Gray herself. as for the drinks achievement we can earn it throughout the year instead only wintersday. Happy drinking everyone.

Is this confirmed? Will this achievment remain the whole year? will the whole wintersday achievement also remain? or only those in favor of getting the presence shoulder?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Updates-about-Wintersday/first#post5863319

Apparently the achievement will remain, but they can’t do anything about the text itself. Which indicates they aren’t going to change seasonal stuff while it is active (for Dwayna knows why reasons) – nothing new on that front though, was the same way with previous seasonal events.

So…

We can finish drink achievement year round, but we’ll still be paying out the back end to get it if we don’t farm all we need now. And this obviously does nothing about the JP complaints.

Good news / bad news kind of a thing.

Or words to that effect.

Is it it strange though that Guild Wars 1 had the exact same holiday decorations and the exact same holiday quests every year, and people just did them and didn’t complain.

Wintersday kept getting updates and was expanded into the expansions. (kamadan got questlines and a decoration, not only tombs, LA, droknar and ascalon. EoTN got new quests and also decorations.)
So: 2005 first wintersday, 2006 nightfall, 2007 UW quests?, 2008 expanded it to eotn, 2009 nothing new?. 2010 snowball fight of gods, 2011 nothing new, 2012 changed hat quest.
EoTN, the last expansion, was released 2007.

Halloween is afaik similar. And that are only two events. There are two other big events which are comparable to wintersday and halloween (canthan new year and dragon festival) plus several smaller events like aprils fool, thanksgiving, eastern, st. patricks, wintersday in july, wayfarer, pirate week.
So even when some events stayed the same, there was overall a bigger variety of events. GW2 has just released a new expansion. Anet hasn’t stopped developing GW2 and is already working on GW3. So its a bit sad they don’t seem to care about the events anymore.

Plz link where it says gw3 is in development? Not saying it’s not true just curious if there have been official statements :p

How can we get drinks throughout the year?

Quite easily! If you do the Grawnk “quest”, you get a Wintersday tree in your home instance which you can harvest every day for a free present! You can also buy them on the trading post throughout the year, but the tree does give a slow, but stead supply of presents.

Leaving the Festive Imbiber active is cool and everything (and thanks for the update), but the drinks that are required for the achievement will still be gone after the event so it kinda defeats the purpose… And no, the single box a day from the christmas tree in our home instance is not a viable method imo.

So unless you guys add some cooking recipes to a vendor so we could brew our own festive drinks and such or lower the requirement to something around 2500 it would be rather pointless to leave an achievement active that can’t be completed anyway (unless we fork over cash-for-gold on a finite TP supply).

Just my opinion on the matter. Sorry if it sounds a bit harsh.

Wait until next year or maybe even the next holiday will help move that ach. The achievement in the original took a while too.

  • Wintersday is scheduled to end on January 12, 2016.
  • We will be leaving the Festive Imbiber achievement active throughout the year.
  • We will not be able to change the text that indicates it’s a Wintersday-only achievement, but you will be able to continue to imbide (in moderation, please – think of the dolyak children!) to gain that achievement.

Enjoy the festival and we’ll see you in the game!

Its a game.

Cosmetic stuff could be handed out like confetti at a parade, and it wouldn’t alter the game world or experience one iota.

Anyone who argues about economies, exclusivity, the difficulty of acquisition, etc., etc. is missing the point, and comes across as kind of… well you know. Anyone who thinks the Batwings, or the falling snow should only be available to those able to sink all their time into the game is missing the point of games entirely, and views said games, and grindy MMOs in general as jobs.

You can tell who these people are. They spam “N00B” in chat, talk about how elite they are, their skills at speedclears and such.

The game should cater to EVERYONE. Every cosmetic rewards that isn’t gemstore could be mailed to every single player en masse and it wouldn’t affect gameplay one bit. Certain peoples’ kittens would shrink a bit, but that’s their problem.

The worst part about Wintersday is just how much it makes me realize the lack of empathy among gamers. Sure, its not all, but its enough to be depressing.

Exactly, its a game. You don’t need the cosmetic items at all as it won’t affect your gameplay one bit. All armors could be removed and you just allocate your stats instead and the gameplay would remain the same.

To get Winter’s Presence you are required to finish the winter jumping puzzle 3 times. I believe that would be a platforming requirement.

And how is Winter’s Presence part of the game world? Is it necessary to continue a Story? A Map? Access a Point of Interest, HP, or Vista? A Dungeon? A Fractal?
It’s a skin!

Not having Winter’s Presence does not in any way bar you from experiencing the game, so just like the other platforms which are a sideshow, just skip it.

EDIT

I’ve put forth this suggestion in another thread. Award tokens after completing each event(bell choir, jumping puzzle, snowball fight, and infinitarium). Have each of the collectibles have a token cost. Since the snowglobe took 3 successful jumping puzzle completions charge 3 tokens for it….. etc. etc. This I think would be a reasonable way to go about earning the skin. That way you could do the events you want and still earn the skin. After all isn’t the game about entertainment?

I could be behind this. It is perfectly reasonable on the grounds that the difficulty of achieving the shoulders is quantifiably as difficult as it is now.

This is exactly how I feel about all of this. We should never treat people poorly for their inability to do certain things in-game, but we also mustn’t forget that this skin is not required. Putting insane tasks like this as a gate for personal story or world exploration would be cause for uproar but not for a side-quest that leads to an item 99% of players will never own.

I do like this token idea though, which also allows players to continually do what they enjoy. This is a good fix for this issue, albeit a bit too late for this year. Hopefully Anet uses this when planning the next festival.

You are right, there are people who are simply unable to get certain items from the game. But to make it easier for those people is to cheapen it for others who are proud of what they’ve done.

Not easier, equal. We should all have an equal chance to get things in this game.

When you make content that is especially difficult or impossible for players with disabilities to do part of a requirement for an event, item or story, then you are actively excluding players. You are making them less than the other players.

Imagine you are a brown eyed person, and you enjoy a game. Most of the time, the colour of your eyes has no impact on your gameplay; you make some adjustments, you avoid optional content that is difficult for you, and you keep playing. Then they start adding required content that works better for blue eyed people. Blue eyed people can get through it just fine, so can green eyed people… but for brown eyed people, it is difficult, even physically debilitating and harmful.

And people’s response to that? To tell you to suck it up, quit whining, just ‘keep practicing’, to not expect the devs to make it ‘easier’ for you, because that ruins it for everyone else. All because you want equal access to the game.

This whole attitude is exactly why, when I got violently ill playing a particular HoT story mission, I wrote directly to GW2 support… only to be told I needed to go post on the forum, because that’s where the Devs are.

I didn’t want to post here on the forum, because despite it being 100% better than most MMOs, it is still filled with people who would happily insult me, belittle me, and berate me for trying to ‘ruin’ their game, just because I expect better out of ANet- not content that is deliberately designed to trigger physical disability.

You are asking for near impossibility for two different, but equal ways (okay, that does sound really bad as I type this, ya know?). Take for instance the tokens instead of jump puzzle. First, how do you decide what is equal time? That can vary. Second, where do you put the tokens? Garunteed one per gift? Then people with money can easily buy it, making it an easier path (not equal). Random chance in a gift? You’ll get people complaining about rng and not having money to buy gifts or hate grinding the other activities and dailies. Not to mention, the time factor. What if someone with a disability also has only an hour of play time? Should that be taken into consideration as well? Is it really possible to design something to include every single person and design it around their life?

No. That’s when its being asked too much. Look, people are getting upset at pixels and unable to obtain, them. Pixels in a video game that won’t be around forever. And are you really going to be thinking in 20yrs, “man, I wish I had gotten those cool snow shoulder pads from a game no longer running anymore”.

I really hope not.

Not getting an item shouldn’t ruin your gaming experience. If you don’t get it, wait for the next chance instead of beating yourself up. And if, you are beating yourself up, I suggest taking a step back and remembering its a game, and if that doesn’t work, seek help

I just want to know that the achievement will not be locked once Wintersday is over. More than likely, it will be, and that’s a bummer. Why introduce things into the game that you know by normal means would require a year to complete, by no other means than “we locked the achievement.” ~700 drinks a day is a bit excessive over a holiday season where people are always on the go. I’m definitely not a casual in this game with ~8k hours logged, and even I said “wow” when this achievement came out.

I am not sure that I will be able to find out the answers to your questions, Starfall, but I’ll see if the devs are able to tell me the details you’ve requested.

(As a GW veteran and official Life of the Party and Incorrigible Ale-Hound, I’m thinking about going for the beverage thing myself. )

I beg your pardon? We were able to complete these titles over YEARS of playing Guild Wars 1.
Eastern, Wintersday, Talk like a Pirate, Chinese New Year, Wintersday in Summer.. you name it.

All of them dropped items for said titles.

To highlight the differences:

- Title will be locked away after the event so we have to redo it all over again next year?!
- 2-4weeks compared to ~7 Years…
- impossible to complete without TP (24/7 grind might work?)

Also being drunk in Guild Wars 1 gave you “anti knock down” with our beloved dwarven stabilty! It was totally worth it being a virtual alcoholic in FoW, UW, Dungeons (you name it)!

It would be nice if ANET could implement more of the Clothing and wardrobe style based on that timeline period. I know I read somewhere about a Katana skin however I’ve been unlucky any finding anything like a Katana or even a Samurai Sword skin. I know the female Hexen skin recently had the a Chinese Looking hat along with it but the male skin didn’t have it.

I’d agree if they had a LS section which featured Canthan’s arriving to Kryta heavily, or we went to Cantha to get more “Canthan style weapons/armor skins”. Out of the blue? Not as much.

Canthans (in lore) have been, like other humans, heavily integrated in to the nation of krya in the 200+ years since GW1. Kryta is am immigrant state more akin to the USA than the primarily ethnic Krytan nation it was during GW1.

The reason there’s no Canthan district has to do with some questionable decisions by a certain NCSoft person that wasn’t around during GW1 taking offense at the “mixing of Asian Cultures” present in the cantahn district before release (despite elona being a clear mixing of african cultures, original kryta being a clear mixing of south american cultures, and ascalon being a clear mixing of european cultures)

Canthan families and culutre are, lore wise, very present in modern kryta and have been for hundreds of years, just like all human cultures as they immigrated and found refuge as humanity around tyria continued to flee failing wars, elder dragons, or political persecution. They’re just not in vogue like the majority krytan/ascalonian cultural identity that pervades mainstream krytan culture.

I swear the whole “hate on trehearn” thing is just bandwagoning and a result of the same concept as memes

A lot of People had ZERO opinions on trehearn one way or the other, then sometime around launch someone gave this whole “stealing the spotlight” criticism and tons of people started adopting that opinion and parroting it around on the forums and map chat, this resulted in tons of players being exposed to this opinion and rolling with it themselves even though they probably wouldn’t have even thought about it if they hadnt been told to have that opinion

I see the same thing happen whenever people like woodenpotatoes post some video discussing their opinions on some topic, suddenly the following days i will see people practically quoting them word for word and claiming it is their own “unique” opinion that they just happen to have come to

About Traeharne: everyone I knew in RL who played this game hated Traeharne. All my guildies hated Traeharne. I hated Traeharne. A lot of people who posted on the forums hated Traeharne. We all had different reasons, save that the focus was: “He stole my spotlight.”

Don’t lie to yourself and say that he didn’t steal your spotlight in the PS. At the beginning of the PS, your character says: “This is my story.” And then at the end, it becomes Traeharne’s story.

He didn’t. He NEVER stole a story. And I DARE you to prove that he did. But you can’t, because he never did. Not a single person who claims to hate Trahearne can point out any place where he stole credit. Not. A. One.

Because such a point doesn’t exist. Never existed. And certainly never will.

I really do not believe you at all when you say it’s a “vocal minority” that wanted the spotlight when the story is supposed to be about YOU. Your character. Not an NPC.

It was the same people I saw stating this over and over again. Everyone in my guilds didn’t hate them. The folks I know out of the game do not hate him.

They found him annoying, largely because of his personality and voice acting, like I did, but they did not hate him and they knew he did not steal the spotlight, did not take any credit.

Dear ANet writers,

Jormag-Kralkatorrik-DSD+Primordus I think

This is probably how I would like to see the order go.

An angry and vengeful Braham confronts the Fang of Jormag and manages to chip off a millimeter sized chunk. This somehow inspires the team to hunt down Jormag. I’ve love to see the Far Shiverpeaks again and the area surrounding the Eye of the North. One problem here is that a lot of the Far Shiverpeaks was turned into a giant lake. With Anet moving away from underwater combat this might make them shy away from this area.

So after my Asura builds the Jormag-Kill-o-Golem and saves the day then maybe Glint’s Egg hatches and tells us to go after Kralkatorrik. I’d love to see what has become of the Crystal Desert and with the minions of Kralkatorrik and maybe the minions of Joko hanging around, it would be an exciting place to visit. The problem here though…killing Kralkatorrik would remove some of the excuse as to why we can’t go to Elona. But they can just say Joko’s army is too powerful and move on…I guess.

After that we find out that the Deep Sea Dragon is killed by…er…Baby Glint I suppose. Anything to avoid more underwater zones.

Finally, Primordus has to be the final final boss. Too many potential fun things to name here. Revisiting the Depths of Tyria and the Central Transfer Chamber. Running into a couple of Stone Dwarves deeeep underground. Maybe some Easter eggs giving some hints at what happened to some GW1 heroes and if they knew/challenged Primordus. My characters will channel the power of the deceased GW1 heroes and cast the most powerful of magics to defeat him! The GW1 version of Pain Inverter!

Stars Wars will be spoiled that’s simply the way things work, if it’s not here it will be somewhere else. Sorry it matters to you but I really doubt there is a TOS infraction for that.

This. I really hate it when people are so uptight about spoilers (which I go out of my way to find so I can enjoy other parts of the movie and not be worried about stuff like I’ll be less shocked and sad if a character I like died…if only I had some personal story spoilers when I started this game :( )

lol It is not hard by any means… you either earn them by hard work inside the game… or earn them by hard work at your real life job…

Yeah. Forget about having fun and playing in a game. Let’s all just work.

Just all what people need from a game. More work.

While I agree 10,000 is a stupid amount to put a time constraint on, I think people really need to cool it with the “this is a game, I’m not supposed to work!” mentality.

Work and effort are not the same thing. Work is something you need to do to support yourself and your family. You will never and have never worked in GW2 (unless you are a gold farmer and sell gold for a living, I guess, shame on you). You may have to put effort into getting the things you want, and depending on the person, the amount of effort you are willing to put in will vary. You are never required to do any of it. You can put in as much or as little effort you want.

For me personally, the amount of effort required to get this skin is too much, so I won’t do it.

But to imply a game shouldn’t have items/achievements/skins that require effort to obtain, simply because we all work for a living, is something I just don’t agree with.

If you ever feel like what you’re doing in game is “work”, then stop doing it. There’s nothing in this game worth feeling like that.

Every item I’ve grinded for has been for something I wanted enough for that grind to not even phase me. But this snowy effect skin? Yea, that’s not worth the effort.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
