Every of GW2 post HoT is a grind-fest and gold sink. Period.

I’m a GWAMM player from GW1, and I can tell you that aside from things like Lucky and Unlucky, or Party Animal/Sweet Tooth, there’s nothing in GW1 that can be called grind.

Oh, that means you sort of never did Saviour of the Kurzick/Luxon … Lucky/Unlucky means you afk in a circle during event days, Party Animal/Sweet Tooth or Drunkard titles can be bought … Saviour on the other hand (unless you are a Kurzick and botted it from Lutgardis).

What you see as a gold sink I see as a gold mine … just don’t go wanna, wanna … open those gifts, sell the content … get rich.

If the achievement wasn’t time gated, then it wouldn’t be that bad. But of course they some how thought 10k in a span of a couple weeks (we don’t even know when wintersday ends >:( ) was a good idea…

Haven’t seen the movie but I’m pretty sure EVIL will mostly be winning but GOOD will come through at the end, leaving a tantalising loose end to be continued.

Sorry if that spoils it for anyone.

The movie has already been premiered. Would suggest you also lay off of all other media sources like Twitter and Facebook for now.

Yep, I got that GW1 title. People complained about_ it then too, both from a moral viewpoint and also from a “it’s too hard” viewpoint. In the meantime, a bunch of players enjoyed chasing the title and another bunch of players enjoyed having ready customers for the random booze that dropped at various times. It’s absolutely fine at 10K imo.

The moral standpoint is always amusing, given that we’re playing a game that basically involves killing anything that moves and taking stuff that does not belong to us. Right now in the game there will be a bunch of folk who are offended by alcohol but who are perfectly happy to repeatedly kick the poor little guys who are trying to steal the Dolyak presents.

Hah, kids these days complaining about 10k drinks which they can instantly buy on the TP at any time and then speed through them by consuming a stack at a time…

It’d be really funny to see these guys attempt the oldschool Incorrigible Ale-Hound title in GW1, where not only did you have to drink 10k drinks, but you actually had to stay drunk in-game for 10k real life minutes for it to count, and you had to spend 2 drinks to get drunk for the third to count towards the title. And the drinks were really hard to come by in the early years, too. They changed it though some years ago and now you can just spam the drinks so it’s only a lot of clicking.

Did you stop to consider maybe you’re not suppose to get it all in one season unless you’re dedicated? You can live another year or two without the skin. And if you can’t well, you can grind!

Whether or not they let it continue after the event, or continue next wintersday, or not continue at all there will be people that are mad. There is no “win” in this situation with gamers.

Don’t forget that you can easily get 1000-2000 drinks every wintersday through presents everywhere
Completing it in 3 years is very doable without spending money.

Unless Gaile can give us some answers later it makes no sense to speculate. We on one hand have the achievement text that states “it is only doable during wintersday” and on the other hand we have the releasenotes that state “returning and new permanent Wintersday achievements".

So without further information… EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE

It’s not hard nor difficult. I believe the word(s) you are looking for is either timely in realistically; a very short time span so impossible or costly if one chooses to buy their way through the achievement.

Hopefully there is a “consume all” option for stacks.

Stuff like this already existed in GW1; I am glad to see it make a comeback in GW2.

Even Thirst Slayer achievement exists here.

Difference is GW1 counts ALL ales, and there’s no TIME LIMIT to gain the achievement.

GW2 counts ale coming from presents, which then only come out during wintersday, and only when doing the winterdays event.

GW1 also have all the ales counted for the AP sold by NPC, while GW2 forces you to play with TP and let the market determines the price, which is often overpriced due to lack of supply and huge demand.

I can only shake my head that people even bring GW1 to compare to GW2 now, since their objective and goal now are nothing alike at all since HoT.

There’re just too many objectives/goals to work for. Hard-mode and map completion is probably the best thing GW1 ever implanted. It satisfies both casuals and hard-core players alike. They even afford ot make new challenging free-to-play story line before GW2 launch! (The new Cathan side-story is so challenging and very satisfying when beated. It’s nothing like GW2’s grind-fest for shiny items)

They’ve done this sort of thing for a long time now, dating back to Guild Wars 1. For whatever reason they want some holiday rewards to be out of the reach of most people and since its baked into their reward philosophy then asking for a change is wasting time.

Wintersday 2007: Mini Polar Bear. Drop rate chance from Wintersday Chest is 0.02%. Wintersday Grab Bag, maybe 0.2% (if I remember correctly you could get 2 Grab Bags per account per year)

By Mini Polar Bear standards of access, they are handing out these shoulders to everyone who wants one.

You are forgetting that Mini Polar Bear was considered to have outrageously low drop rate by GW1 standarts. Though i agree that it was the first sign of the bad times to come.

And where did you get the notion I was forgetting anything? I didn’t discuss the players reactions to the mini in that post. I’m only pointed out that having holiday rewards restricted to a few is something they’ve been doing for years and that its part of their reward system and not likely to change.

Be careful what you ask for

Just as a heads up, the Mastery Points for Personal Story are awarded on a per-chapter basis. So once you complete Chapter 1 and earn the Achievement for it, you’ve earned the Mastery Point for Chapter 1. This includes each different starting storyline: I believe the right names are: Graduation Day, For The Legion!, Crime and Punishment, Rising to the Challenge, and Waking from the Nightmare. Similarly, whichever Order you join, there’s just one Mastery Point there.
Hopefully this helps clarify the total number of Mastery Points you should be expecting from your previous accomplishments in Tyria. That said, the different stories really are fantastic, and should definitely be experienced, but for your own pleasure, and not for Mastery Points.
If any of you still think you are missing MPs from Achievements you’ve completed, let us know via the in-game Bug Report tool and we’ll try to identify if there’s a bigger issue happening.

Please please please say that this will be revisited!

I have been going back and forth with support trying to figure out why I have much less MPs than the wiki had said. Everything I have not gotten yet is a royal pain and/or a gold sink. Over a year in the game, several hours a day, 9 characters, and I can not complete pact commander? Really?

I only have the final HoT legendary collection to unlock for my core Tyria masteries.

I either have to do obscure misc. achievements that are unlikely to be obtained (like the tripe trouble ones or some pain to get collection) or do the season 2 story achievements that are buggy and broken.

I’m pretty much stuck.

But yeah your experience was identical to mine in every way (right down to Dulfy). I’m actually pretty sure I couldn’t do it even if I tried, not enough time to play everyday for that many beverages lol. But hey I’m enjoying the money I’m getting from selling the Wintersday gifts

Here is my experience.

1) checked out the item. I thought it was pretty cool looking.
2) looked up how to achieve it on Dulfy
3) quickly realized it would be a grind and rather frustrating with the JP stuff. I have no problem doing JP but it does take me awhile.
4) weighed the pros and cons
5) Decided my gaming time would be more enjoyable spent doing something else because even tho this is a cool item, the grind would be too boring. The time investment and grind did not seem worth it to me so I am passing on this item.

Now if you happen to be a snowman I can see your point. You really need this item so you don’t melt in the jungle. In that case maybe I would advocate for some nerf.

Unfortunately, I disagree. After reading the part about “Guild Wars 2 is a video game”, it has become obvious to me that TS does not understand that video games have a lot of genres.

Guild Wars 2 belong to the MMORPG genre and all MMORPG are known to have grind contents so when you or anyone decided to play MMORPG, they should have be prepared to grind for things one way or another. People can complain about certain items are overpriced while using existing items as guidelines but to complain about grind itself in a MMORPG is stupid. No people in the position capable of making changes will bother to respond if the complain is about grind.

Honestly, if people complain in a more reasonable and logical manner, it will be more well-received. Take for example if people phrase it this way, 10,000 drinks are a little too much given that wintersday will end in (2 or 4 weeks time) as compare to legendary which you can take your time to grind for while legendary have substantial use for it but winter’s presence is just a skin yet cost way more efforts (due to limited time frame) than legendary, thus the item is obviously overpriced.

As for people who for some reasons not able to complete JPs, be it medical or simply bad at JPs. They can always ask their friends to play their account to complete for them. Yes, it is against the TOS and if anet do ban people for helping others then it is better to just find a new game, you can point a middle finger at anet while doing so.

See, there’s a million things in this game gated behind content some people don’t like doing, or can’t and not just due to some physical impairment as the OP is referring to .. where do you draw the line?

When a game required a player to sit tight in front of the computer 2 hours+ straight otherwise you can’t finish part of the game content or aquire some item. It is no longer a game. How many 2 hours we got pet day? Thats 1/12 of our life and it is crazy demanding.

Last i check my play per day i am still sitting at 2hrs per day but you know what? I am already playing more than 55% of the whole player base. Yet i am not able to run any contents that require 2 hrs+. That mean there are majority of players are much casual than Anet expected.

I actually prefer RNG and TP when it comes to item aquire. At least the contents are reasonably created. We are not forced to do super long contents and still get the same chance aquiring items. It was once the beautiful of GW2 but it is no longer the case now.

Two hours per day is half of our lives?

If you climb a tree to fetch an apple, you get an apple.
If someone gives me a ladder to help me fetch an apple, I get an apple.
We both get apples.

A more accurate analogy would be: “If someone cuts down the tree you get an apple”
But now you’ve just cut down someones tree, someone who actually enjoyed climbing it.

I can’t agree with this…I have a disabled cousin,he is like a brother,i was there when he wasn’t disabled,i was there during the surgeries that left him disabled,he was a gamer, not anymore since he can’t use one of the arm but should games develop or change stuff for him or any other disabled gamer out there? No!(color blind is an exception, can be fixed easily more or less)
The reason for that is simple, ppl want challenging content, without challenging content,an mmorpg slowly dies, look at GW2,they had to make an expansion that focuses more or less on spending a lot of time to get something, making it challenging.
What you ask is less challenging stuff.
Now let’s talk why should a gaming company create something for a small minority who can probably bring low income. There are disabled people who can work but many can’t,a business who focuses on people who can’t bring income sounds like suicide…
I am sorry if i sound like an kitten,i wish my cousin could play any game and i wish every gaming company would develop games for him but that doesn’t mean it’s correct…

(Edit: Forgot to mention,i didn’t get the previous shoulder skin and i will probably not get this one,i have a job, I work a lot but if i can’t get it…i don’t go on the forum asking for stuff to become easier to get)

I really don’t see a problem with it.

Yes, its a holiday. But I don’t see why that means you can’t have a single item that’s more difficult to get. If people don’t want to waste their holiday grinding for a hard-to-get item or flat out can’t get it at all, then so be it. Its not like this one item is the entire point off the festival and without it there’s nothing to do and nothing to earn. Its one reward that goes a step beyond for people who want to work a bit harder and have the capability to do so.

Maybe there wouldn’t be so much outcry if they had added more new stuff besides just Winter’s Presence. And that I can agree with. Halloween this year had a good number of new shinies to get besides just the bat shoulder, where with Wintersday there’s not much new beyond that and some guild décor. So it could be funneling everyone’s attention toward the one new item and then disappointing people with the fact they can’t get it. Some other, non-elite items may have dispersed the attentions of some people.

But even then, its more of a “well, it would have been nice” type situation than a “OMG this is awful why would you do such a horrible thing” one, IMO.

this game does not need ultra rare hard to get items during limited time events. it does not make the game fun for anyone but game whales (rl rich players) and in game economy sharks.

But their existance doesn’t make it any less fun for those who can’t get the item (unless you have an entitlement complex like many have these days). Us normal people aren’t SUPPOSED to be able to go for these ultra rare items. No one said you had to get the shoulders, it is a premium item there for the few players will/able to get it, and good for them. The rest of us casual players should be content with all the other cool stuff in the event rather than fixating on the one thing we can’t have.
This entitlement complex people have developed is ridiculous, just because it exists in the game doesn’t mean you deserve it without earning it. Many items in the game many of us will never have because we will never earn them, but why take that away from those who can?

Sug: Changing Givers Stats and Doubloons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Present status:

Giver’s Armor/trinkets:

  • Toughness (Major)/
  • Healing/
  • +1% Boon duration (fixed)

Giver’s Weapons:

  • Condition duration (Fixed) 10/20%
  • Vitality
  • Precision

Inconsistency:
Since the introduction expertise and concentration in HoT, 1 thing isn’t changed:

The fixed amount of Boon Duration on Givers Armor and Jewelry, and on Doubloons
The fixed amount of Condition Duration on Givers Weapons

*And thus I’d like to propose: *

Changing the now ‘legacy’ fixed boon duration to concentration in all cases, I’d suggest the stats provided by doubloons be re-evaluated as well.

Proposal (details):

Changing the now ‘legacy’ fixed boon duration to concentration in all cases:

  • would make the Exotic Giver’s armor provide (299 concentration (19.92% boon duration)), 299 healing and 419 toughness
  • would give Exquisite snowflakes their 1% boon duration still, but the trinkets would be greatly improved.
  • would give Doubloons stat bonus in % but it could be reworked to give a single boost to concentration (15/30/45/60 concentration respectively, for copper/silver/gold and platinum.)

Q.) Should Giver stats and Doubloons be reworked to add boon duration through concentration, as a minor stat, thus replacing the “legacy” percentage boon duration which has been the standard (and underwhelming) till now?

A.) I’d say Yes.
It would rebuild and correct the structure of giver’s amongst armor stats, as well as refresh/rework the givers stat making it (more) usefull in builds.
And make doubloons usefull (I think it wouldn’t inpact on the availabiliity of silver doubloons (needed for certain legendaries, always in short supply), and would give a market for gold and platinum doubloons).

I am not sure that I will be able to find out the answers to your questions, Starfall, but I’ll see if the devs are able to tell me the details you’ve requested.

(As a GW veteran and official Life of the Party and Incorrigible Ale-Hound, I’m thinking about going for the beverage thing myself. )

Well, ofc you’d get all the beverage for free.
I don’t expect you have so much time to grind this for the duration of Wintersday, nor do I think you can endure it. (Most couldn’t. 60 hrs of JP or 100 hrs of Choir Bell in 3~4 weeks is beyond ridiculous)

Hint of making “fun” design and objective:

Make your own Devs do it. If they can finish it without any complaint and have fun while doing it, you have your design right. If they give-up half-way or think there’s no point, you have your design atrociously wrong.

HoT is not challenging

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jahroots.6791

Jahroots.6791

When people complain that HoT is too hard, they probably just mean it’s harder than they’d prefer.

Also it’s a lot more than just the actual combat influencing their opinions. You have to consider the entirety of the expansion. Off the top of my head…

- Navigation
- Mob density
- Effort/Reward ratio
- Bugs and PC performance issues
- Unmet expectations

These are all likely to shape individual opinions. Someone who’s miffed about all or some of the above (and there are quite a few people who are disappointed them) is going to become frustrated a lot more easily than a player who is generally satisfied with the state of the game.

HoT is not challenging

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Labjax.2465

Labjax.2465

Sorry, but I don’t understand why so many people say HoT is so “hard” and “challenging”.

Is dodging right so hard? Is getting tankier gear if you can’t so hard? Is playing with others if you can’t do that so hard? There are always people there.

Im pretty much disappointed about the mob’s AI. Stand on an elevation and Bristlebacks don’t hit, stand on an elevation or dodge from a wall and stoneheads will stun themselfes. Mordrem snipers obvious attacks are just the easiest to dodge attacks in the entire game, same for the hammer guys. Pocket raptors… AoE and they die instantly. Just run out of the smokescales AoE.

I got VB and AB to 100% w/o getting real help from others, just some meta events, solo’ed almost every Champ on those 2 maps (This vampire thingy sucked, tho pun intended)

Overall HoT just doesn’t feel fast paced, well harder than the normal open world but not the challenge everyone cries about.

Other opinions from people that think it really isn’t that hard?

Either Dunning-Kruger or brag thread. Not sure which.

Their research also suggests corollaries: highly skilled individuals may underestimate their relative competence, they may erroneously assume that tasks which are easy for them are also easy for others, and they may incorrectly suppose that their competence in a particular field extends to other fields in which they are less competent.

This could be you.

Or words to that effect.
